This was a family cruise, it was myself, my husband and my nephew and his wife and his family. I've only ever been on 1 other cruise line in my life, and it was a great experience, this cruise however I wasn't thrilled with. We had a weird, loud, knocking noise in the wall of our cabin room at different hours of the night when we were trying to sleep. It would last anywhere from 30 seconds to a full minute. The buffet's were few and far between, they closed at different hours which they never advertised so you had no idea what was open when or when some place was closed. The only 24 hour definite was Pizza, and ice cream. The dinners were o.k. it was basically the same appetizer choices every night, which to me was boring. The main meal's were o.k. nothing to write home about. The cruise on a whole was o.k. also the biggest turn off for us, and disappointment was that the casino, of which there was only 1 on the ship was smoker friendly, and people used it to their advantage, it was gross! I am not sold on Celebrity Cruise's and doubt very seriously I'll take another one any time soon. Read Less

We had a great time.. Truly enjoyed this cruise.. We are Platinum and this was our 2nd time on the Paradise. We were traveling with our Brother & Sister in law for their 1st cruise. We had a blast and I think we got them hooked on cruising too... The weather was a little cloudy but that did not stop our fun.. in either port.. We had great food and great service .. The ship was nice & clean. We did Your time Dining and asked for the same Wait Staff every night. We let Carnival Pick our cabin and it was a great Location on the Aft.. We enjoyed the adult comedy shows as well as a little bit of all the other entertainment.. trivia, love & marriage show, 8 More seconds, karaoke, and just sitting and people watching on the serenity or lido decks.. I generally don't return to cruise critic after a cruise and I, and my family, are relatively tolerant of imperfection. I have been a member since 2004 and been on a fair number of cruises, most in suites and more on NCL than Carnival. I have to say there is no comparison if you are in a suite. Do not waste the large amount of extra money, particularly on Paradise, for a suite. In order to get a fair amount of space and a balcony that could fit chairs we had to book a Grand suite which is the best cabin available. First, do not expect any kind of VIP treatment. There isn't any. I kind of assumed that going in so I was banking on the cabin being worth the fare. It , and the ship, were not up to snuff. Worst of all the coveted and rare (on Paradise) balcony smelled like raw sewage for the whole trip. I had to complain and they said they had heard that before!! Things are not clean. The robe had someone else's dirt on the collar, the surfaces were all sticky when we got there, the windows (which are easily accessible from the balcony -- I was going to clean them myself) had old drippy streaks running down them. I don't blame the stewards, I'm sure they are overworked. I can go on -- but I'm too busy coughing my lungs out from the second hand smoke in the casino which seemed to have no air conditioning or air circulation. Dining room wait staff at our table was excellent and we tipped them extra accordingly which I could tell was a shock to them as was the tip I gave our room steward. I don't think he had ever had a decent tip before. He said as much. Carnival Paradise is a tired old ship, okay for a short CHEAP cruise. This is not the ship to book if you want the suite experience. I will pony up the extra for a suite on another line where VIP means something. It's always nice to get what you think you are paying for. I wrote this so others are forewarned and don't get the major disappointment we did. Regarding service -- guest services often does not answer the phone. I had a message on the phone, tried to call them 6 times, no answer. I finally had to go to the desk and wait 15 minutes on a long line. Finally we were supposed to have priority disembarkation being in a suite and also with a wheelchair bound parent. We were completely ignored by the staff helping priority disembarkation until I steeped forward to ask several times why they were not letting us through. Read Less

Living 30 minutes from Port Tampa makes this a great and affordable cruise. The ship is definitely "dated", especially with some of the big cruise liners available. I found it to be nostalgic. The ship itself was clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly. Especially the entertainment, bar and wait staff. The rooms were tiny. The beds were no so comfortable. The AC in the cabins was freezing, but the hot water was scalding hot! Be sure to bring your own toiletries....including soaps, shampoos and tissue. They were bad. The food was not good at all. Long lines at the breakfast buffet, and the food wasn't good. There was a made to order omelet station if you had 45 minutes to wait. The coffee was once again, scalding. Lunch was very similar. The food choices were not great. The deli line was awfully long and same for the piz The dinner experience was good. Our waitress was very good and efficient. The entrees, with the exception of the lobster, was very bland. After leaving dinner the first night hungry, I ordered 3 or 4 appetizers for every dinner. The appetizers were much better than the entrees. The melted chocolate cake was amazing! You need to get rid of indoor smoking. It was AWFUL on the day it rained. The entertainment was excellent. Really funny comedians and games throughout the day were fun with Fluffy. Cozumel was fun, as always. The souvenir prices (especially silver) at the port were outrageous. I got a silver piece for a fraction of what I was first quoted. Barter! Leaving the cruise disembarkation was a nightmare. Carnival....you have been in this business for too many years to allow this to happen. Overall it was a fun time.   Read Less

This review will be short and to the point(s). Food: If you enjoy Steak and Shake, you will be safe on this ship in the Main dining rooms. For buffet and the rest of the locations, just be happy you get full. The quality of the food on the ship is mediocre. My favorite place to eat was the Mongolian Wok out on the Lido deck. I didn’t try out room service though. Entertainment: I never have seen so many people walk out on shows. It was very weak. There is nothing to do on the boat except get drunk. The game shows and other shows like that were boring to say the least. The only thing that was worthwhile was the comedy acts. On this cruise, there was Diane Ford and JR all part of the circle of Punchliner Comedy Club. Hilarious. Embarkation: We were herded like cattle in the room then outside to look at the boats. A HOT endeavor if it’s summer time. I sailed with RCL and they do everything inside with a TV tutorial, imagine that. We missed the actual embarkation since they were doinking around with the instructions just in case if someone goes over board or have to use the life jackets. I thought we couldn’t leave till those were done. Cabin: Not too shabby. It was an ocean view and I did enjoy looking at the waves to pass some time due to the poor entertainment on the ship. A couple things to keep in mind, there’s only two outlets in the room and one is controlled by the bathroom switch. Bring a power strip if you plan on using electronics such as phones and laptops. Plenty of room for two people, at least the room we were in. The bathrooms were very spacious. You can take a shower with your sig other. The toilet is a little cramped though. Service: Nothing new. It was just as expected except in the dining room. It took 40min one night to just get the starters. I was enraged because we were planning on watching the sunset on all the nights but couldn’t 2 nights on a 4 night cruise due to the service in the dining room.  One of our table mates ordered a simple wine 3 times and it never came. Horrid. The only reason why we stayed in there was for the Chocolate Molten Cake, that’s cocaine right there. Shore Excursions: We didn’t participate any SE from the ship due to the pricing. We went to Cozumel MX and went on our own excursion. The Money Bar is the place to be. They have great food, better than the ships and free snorkeling. We’ve been there twice now and awesome place to be. All it cost was $8 for the taxi ride and snorkel gear if you don’t have it. We brought ours since my mask has prescription lenses. Rates: We wouldn’t pay anything above $100 for this cruise, come next time. The Paradise was far from its name, it was more like The Boring Party ship.   Read Less

I am extremely well traveled and sometimes hard to please and I just wanted to say that this cruise was absolutely amazing. We had sailed one other time in the past with Royal Caribbean on one of their newly refurbished boats and yes, that ship compared to the Paradise was a bit nicer, but we read online that was to be expected. We are from Tampa, so we were happy for the easy in and out convince as well as the great price! Spectacular customer service! Although this will not be the newest ship in the fleet to cruise on, it is seriously clean and well cared for and not to mention THE STAFF IS AMAZING!!!! Every single person who waited on us even in passing new our names (they must train them on remembering names and drinks because everyone who even waited on me once, remembered my name and preferences- it was truly awesome!). The customer service blew Royal Caribbean out of the water. I am sold on this company now just because of their effort and literally, I could feel how hard everyone was trying to make it a truly memorable experience and to which I am grateful. There were tons of things to do on the ship! The comedians (2 guys) were just hilarious. We were there for 4 nights and I didn't get bored once. We went to multiple shows a night, every night and came out laughing and happy! There was ping pong, mini golf, a basketball hoop, big chess, bean bags and tons more. During the day they have big bingo tourneys, activities in the casino, trivia, sales in the ships stores. They kept us busy to the very best of their ability and it worked! We had a blast around the ship. I would also like to say the FOOD WAS AWESOME! I feel like i gained 5 pounds from how good the food was on the ship. I guess they have 100 people that work in the kitchen and every one of them has a culinary degree and 3 years at a high end restaurant and it showed in the food! We did the Chef's table event for $75.00 per person and I highly recommend it! It was worth every penny. We were served Kobe beef, which the chef said alone cost them $75.00, so everything else was just icing on the cake. 7 courses of awesomeness. The Chef was such a great man and he even used to work for the King of Dubai, which is really cool. We do not have kids, but the kids I saw were entertained and having a blast. To lay out and hang out, we stayed on the Serenity deck for adults 21 and older and it was amazing! The excursions were awesome. We did a snorkeling package with a little company we saw at a stand as we walked into the port called El Dorado Snorkeling Tours and it was a blast. It was $40.00 per person and they dropped you off and let you swim to your hearts content. Compared to the other boats out there with people from our cruise, ours was the way to go- it was much more relaxed and they guides were so awesome. Plus, included in the price they had all you can drink beer, sodas and water. We also took a taxi for $8.00 into the downtown and just walked around the shops for a bit. We found this little hole in the wall bar behind the Hotel Barracuda and it was so fun with a swim up bar and right on the water with great drink prices. I think the ship crews hang out there when they are in town. I highly recommend stopping in while passing by. In short, this will not be the most luxurious cruise you will ever take, but it will be the most fun. I would do the same cruise over and over if I had room in the budget. I highly recommend!!! * I decided to book this last minute cruise for my husband's birthday. I read all the reviews and set our expectations prior to boarding. Check-in process was fast, our rooms were ready when we boarded (12:30pm) and our luggage made it to our rooms prior to leaving the dock. The main entry was quite cramped and I felt claustrophobic however I was not spending much time there so it really did not matter. * The buffet on the Lido deck were nothing to write home about. Unless you have to have a cheeseburger or fries, avoid that line as it stretched 15+ people the entire trip. They did have a Mongolian Grill which was pretty decent. * I avoided the pool area as much as possible. At any time of the day or night, there were always way more people in the pools and hot tubs than should be. The music was so loud that I could not hear my husband talking to me and he was sitting next to me. I avoided the pool area all together. * The shows were great. We were happy to see that the dancers and singers performed almost every evening unlike some other Carnival ships. I hope you like country as most of the shows evolved around country music. * On most Carnival ships, the cruise director always has an accent and was a strikingly good looking guy. The Cruise Director on the Paradise is Steve Castle. He was a tall thin gentleman who was quite dorky but you can see that he loves his job. He also plays a mean fiddle. He cracks jokes and by the end of the cruise he grows on you. * We signed up for the Chef's Table which was an enjoyable evening. You are treated to a 10 course meal that takes 3 hours to eat. That also includes a tour of the kitchen. If you love food and don't mind trying new things, this is something you want to pay the extra money for. There is a limit of 14 people for this event so sign up ads soon as you get on the ship at Guest Services.   Read Less

After booking airfare for springbreak and a hotel and car rental, we looked into a cruise instead. It was 300.00 cheaper to cruise not including FOOD. So we just returned from the Carnival Paradise out of Tampa. It is a smaller ship which we tend to like. However, we have to say, the food was TERRIBLE. (the buffett by pool was acceptable) the dining room, NOT SO MUCH. Everything else was typical cruise. We did my time dining. Did not work. We wanted to eat at 6 we ate at 7. They gave us a beeper and we had to wait. We tried to communicate with hostesses but the language barrier prevented us from getting an answer as to whether or not waiting an hour for dinner would be the norm. My 16 year old daughter and her 17 year old friend had a blast. Lots of good times in Club 02. However, she made a comment to me, "boy, it is different in the older kids club, they swear and talk about everything right in front of you". Their director of that club was leaving this cruise was his last after 8 months. Maybe that was why he felt it was ok. Not sure. Also, he was observed in the clubs late nite by a fellow cruiser (pantsing) another worker who did not have any underwear on!! And "grinding" and hanging all over passengers... Inappropriate behavior by staff with other staff and passengers. She was appalled. They both had their name tags on otherwise would not have known they were employees. We had a problem coming into port on last day. Fog made us late which resulted in me missing my flight and not being able to get another until the next day out of ORLANDO which meant renting a car or taking a shuttle and getting a room. All not compensated by the airline or cruiseline because it was weather related.   Read Less
