Definitely get what you pay for. The cruise ship is outdated and randomly smells like sewer. I stayed in an interior room on the Empress deck and it was just grungy (Hair on our bedding, urine still in the toilet). We booked this cruise last minute because the price was so low and after the trip, I see why. The food was good, but the service in the main dining room was not up to par with the larger ships I have cruised on. It wasn't just terrible service, but not what one is used to while cruising. The lido was fine and the serenity deck was nice. The staff were friendly and while they didn't have a lot of activities to attend, the activities that they did have were entertaining. If you aren't looking to get much out of a cruise (would be happy just eating the buffet and playing in the casino) this would be good for you. Would not recommend this 4 day Caribbean cruise to any new cruisers, y'all might get the wrong idea of cruising!! Read Less

This was the second cruise that my husband and I have taken... This time we took a great friend along and it was a great experience!!! Food was amazing....Our waiter name was Irving I think ( table 308 in the inspiration dining room) I can't say enough about him .... My friend is gluten free and he made her food bread, chocolate molting cake and went above and beyond to make her dinners so wonderful!!! She also won $200.00 on bingo... We loved the comedy shows as well as activities.... Our cabin keeper was great... Beds were always made and towel animals were great ...we loved all the shops on and off the boat!!!Any one that doesn't like the cruises must be hard to please because they go above and beyond to please!!! Elena from Romania was a great bartender in the gatspy bar!!!!I recommend anyone thinking about going to go !!!! You will love it as much as we did!!!! Read Less

Have been on two cruises and the first was wonderful. This one on the Elation was terrible! The glass elevators were out of service the WHOLE cruise so the other elevators were completely overloaded and did not work half the time!! Workmen were constantly repairing things in the hallways...The food was lackluster, even in the dining room! The lido deck food was sparse to non existent with the narrowest dining times I've ever seen! The only good thing about this cruise was the staff, who did their best with a ill repaired ship and apparently very little resources!!! Will probably try a different cruise line next time, which is a shame because we were very impressed with our cruise on the fantasy last year. Cozumel was nice but Progresso was just so-so. The shopping was nice on both places, but the other problems with the ship made these really not worth the effort that went into this cruise. Embarkation was not bad but debarkation was ridiculous lines, having you out of your room with your carry ins two hours before debarkation to clean rooms for the next cruisers who were embarking immediately??? No bigger than a bath tub, have to climb way up to get into, and was very small for a ship with that many people on it. Hot tub?? was a joke! 4 people and you were elbow to elbow with each other, crammed in there. TERRIBLE! If you are unable to get around, wheelchair, etc. or can't get off the ship when it docks you are screwed, there is NOTHING to do on the ship to accommodate your time, the casino is closed until 5 or even later. Shops are closed, etc. Lots of drunks go on cruises, I found out, they will talk your ear off, wanted or unwanted, annoying to say the least. Access to alcohol all day long for those who drink but not other activities. Almost the same entertainment every day and night.First cruise for me I hope in the future IF I do take another I am better satisfied... Read Less

So, we just got off or ship yesterday, with me and my husband and 4 kids. *The embarkation process on the ship went very fast. We actually boarded earlier then we were supposed too. *Once on the ship, the kids were amazed! They were so excited. Nothing had changed since the last time I was on the Elation. I hear they are dry docking it in September but not sure if they are going to make any major improvements. *Lunch was being served as usual on the Lido Deck but to our surprise, Tiffany's buffet was open too. So, we ate at the buffet and walked the kids around the ship until our room was available. * Went to our room and no luggage was there yet. Which is normal. Now we had 5 booked in our room and one other child in our relatives room next door. Which she still slept with us. (YES I PAID gratuities for her in our ROOM). So, six of us were in a room. Which was just fine. We did not over pack. For me and the 2 girls we had a sun dress for each day and of course or dressy dresses for our Captain's Dinner. Of course the guys had the usual what they wear. The bunks were very comfortable for the kids and the trundle bed brought in fit great between our king bed and under the bunk on the back wall. The kids were happy. Then our 3 year old slept between me and my husband. So no romance happening at all. :( * There were plenty of activities on the ship but i was there to relax and watch my kids have fun. * The ship was very clean, outdated of course, and the workers on the boat just loved the kids. They really catered to them. *In Cozumel, we decided to rent a Jeep.... I was so NERVOUS because I had heard many horrible stories of american's going over there and getting pulled over by their police for no real reasons. But we didn't see the first cop anywhere. We traveled around the island and took the advice of the guy who we rented from (WHICH I DIDN'T want to do because of all the comments on read on this forum) and went to PUNTA SUR Papita's Beach Club. Oh my gosh! What a joke! The beach was beautiful, but the restaurant, I wouldn't let my DOGS eat there. When I looked behind the bar, the was literally water an inch deep sitting on the floor back in the kitchen area. You could see piles, and piles of dirty nasty dishes piled up on the counters, with FLIES EVERYWHERE. I looked at my husband and said me and my kids WILL not eat here. Of course he said I was prude but I don't care! The beach was pretty here and private. They had nothing really for the kids to do. I wanted to go to paradise beach, but my hard headed husband said this guy said everything is included for $15 bucks. Well I wonder WHY! It was nasty. OH!!! and the parking... you go down this sandy road and they park you little in the woods, bushes, whatever you want to call it. Then you had to walk to the "Beach Resort" .... Then when we got ready to leave, they parked vehicles all behind and we couldn't get out! So, then we had to wait on them to round EVERYBODY up to come move vehicles. The Bathrooms were just horrible! No doors for privacy, the plumbing wasn't working, there was palm tree branches stuck down in the toilets and the sinks didn't work. I had to wash my hands at one of the outdoor showers. That was just a bad memory. *The dining was good as usual. The kids that it was great getting to eat "adult food" *The kids never went to the children's club. They were having to much fun in the pool and slide. *Disembarkation went really fast and quick. We self disembarked and it started at 7:45 and were home in Pass Christian MS by 9:30. Other than that, I will take my kids again. Hopefully they will upgrade the Elation to the latest fun ship, but who knows. **Oh and the fun shop book is a waste of money! I wish someone would have warned me about that. I fell for it of course and didn't use one thing out of it.... AGH I was frustrated with myself.   Read Less

We were so excited to be going on our FIRST cruise together and what better time than our Honeymoon!! I immediately jumped on Carnival's site and Pinterest, I just knew this trip would be EPIC! Then I made the mistake of reading some reviews, fortunately that was a good thing because then my disappointment was as bad as it would have been if I didn't ... First of all each cruise is different and I don't want to discourage you. Ours was unique in that there was a dance competition going on, so there were a lot of kids on board!!! Not the worse thing in the world but the last thing you want on your honeymoon is to be bombarded by a group of RUDE TEENAGE BOYS! You will have to set up your Sail and Sign card - this can be done with a credit card (make sure you have at least $400- $500 on it because that's the hold that gets put on your card at first swipe) this card is used to purchase items on the ship. Don't fret, only the ACTUAL amount get's charged to your card on the last day. For your convenience, there are Sail & Sign ATM's on the ship where you can check your account to see how much you've spent and keep up with it. You can also opt for loading cash on your S&S instead of using a credit card. You can also change options, and add money to it as you go along. If you go over, you will have to pay the balance before leaving the ship. Make sure you have cash on you for the ports, they take credit cards at the shops but not for cabs, beaches etc. PROS: - It was really easy to board the ship. Just get there early. oh and I read somewhere to Tip the porters like $1 per bag when they help you unload. We had two suitcases and a carry-on each. - The comedy show was our favorite thing to do on the ship, comedians (there were 2 of them) were really funny! The comedy shows are really crowded, get there early or you will not be able to attend! - There are other entertainment shows that are pretty good, make sure to check them out, it gives you something to do! - You are allowed to bring a bottle of wine per person that's going. - We didn't know, but you are also allowed to bring your own bottled drinks (soda, water, juice) but I believe it has to fit in your carry-on. I'm also not sure about any limits they may have per person or anything like that. I suggest either looking it up or calling them. - The weather was great and the water was beautiful! - Find the Serenity Deck!!! It's behind the comedy club and a little hard to get to but it's ADULTS only and really peaceful! - They will leave a flier in your room each day, look over it for times of shows and other activities to do on board. Some of the games cost, so watch for those (like Bingo was $25 to play) - The little casino is nice if you like to gamble. - The room was bigger than we expected. We had a stateroom with a window and two twins that converted into a king ... that was really nice! - Our housekeeper was super sweet! - The overall staff was really friendly. - The TV selections are LIMITED - There are mostly kiddie channels, and standard CBS, ABC that plays older recordings, oh! and they have one channel that plays 1 movie a day ... the same movie every 3 hours! I watched "The Help" and "Grown Ups" a few times on this trip! CONS: - It's one of Carnival's smaller ship (or so I've read) so once you've gone around a couple of times it's the same thing over and over. - There isn't a mini fridge in the room so if you do bring drinks, wine etc. request an ice bucket. (Oh and if you bring your wine, don't forget your cork!! .. their corking fee is $15!!!!!! just to open your bottle, we found this out the hard way. I mean we knew there was a fee but $15??? Really?) - Drinks are ridiculous!!! $8/alcoholic drinks PLUS gratuity .. you pay like $10 per drink. Sodas are like $5 .. you can get the all day soda pass but we just opted to just bring our own MIO ... It was a suggestion I found on Pinterest that worked wonders! - If you do purchase liquor from the shops (they have really cheap prices for large bottles of alcohol, but you don't get your bottle until the last day) - They are constantly trying to sell you "deals" ... alcohol, jewelry, clothes etc. - You spend A LOT of time ON the ship. You only have a few hours at the ports. By the time you dock at 9am - eat breakfast and get off the ship it's 10am. Find your way through the shops to a taxi, take the taxi 20-30min to the beach it's 11am. Spend a couple of hours on the beach, find lunch, get a taxi back to port by around 3:30 because the ship will leave you at 4! I felt so rushed, no time to really relax. - The food is not that great, If I would have know better I would have packed some Tony's or something with me .... SERIOUSLY! - The pool is really small ... you'll see ... so if you want to swim, I suggest going late at night when most people are off trying to find "activities" to do. - They take your photo all day everyday - Boarding the ship, eating dinner etc. ... then it's displayed on the wall in the Pixus area -- Be forewarned they are like $8.00-$12.00 each to purchase them. Just bring your money, you'll wan to purchase at least one memory! - Make sure you have a copy of your booking receipts. We were hit with gratuity on our final bill that we thought we had already paid for when we booked. But we booked through a timeshare/travel agent so I don't have a record of it. I think we got hit twice ... :/ "Carnival Elation Gratuity - Carnival recommends $11.50 per person, per day. The guidelines allocate $5.80 to dining room services, $3.70 to cabin services and $2 per day for alternative services, which include kitchen, entertainment, guest services and other hotel staff members. The amount is automatically added to your shipboard account, but can be adjusted in either direction at the guest services desk. A 15 percent gratuity is automatically added to bar bills. Tipping for room service at delivery is expected (and appreciated) by the service staff." Biggest advice is to just enjoy each other and the time away! oh and read the reviews!! http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/review.cfm?ShipID=5 Read Less

My wife and I went on our first cruise ever on January 25 thru 30th on the Carnival Cruise Ship Elation. We went through customs and security with out any problems at the Port of New Orleans. Just make sure you pack only authorized items provided prior to departure. We had our birth certificates, suit cases properly tagged and we boarded the fantasy ship Elation about noon. I filmed a short video and posted on my "YouTube" channel (see Roger L) for posted video. My wife and I really didn't have any prior experience to compare so we didn't know what to expect other that reading reviews prior to departure. The first thing everyone should do is get a pocket map provided in your welcome packet and keep it with you. Learn the forward (front) from the back of the ship by studying the lay-out map given to you. Learn what floor has what restaurant or venue you want to go to. The elevators are usually slow and sometimes crowded. The stairways are wide and used often much quicker than waiting on the elevators. The service was great everywhere we went. Staff was available to refill your soda pops (we don't drink alcohol- however; that is a big money maker for the cruise line..be careful of that.) Staff, security, waiters, all were busy, cleaning, picking up dishes promptly and was prompt to assist you. The cabin we were assigned was on the 4th level..a good level as the movement of the ship was minimum. The lower and more centrally located the better for those susceptable to sea sickness. I do recommend everyone get dromimine sea sick medication and take prior to boarding ship and take it as directed. The cabin was clean, the hot water was very good! The t.v. had limited channels..good to view various cameras for viewing in cabin to see weather conditions or how crowded area was. The cabins was stocked well with your issued blue towels and other items. Good experience with our cabin..very quiet! The excursions was fun; however; my only complaint was that they listed them as 5 hours when actually some excursions to Cozumel or Progresso was shorter in time that specified in advertised publications. Overall in a scale from one - being least and ten being most...I give our wonderful Cruise on the Carnival Elation ship an ..8. Enjoy the cruise and be careful not to run up your tab or issued universal identification/purchase card issued to you in the very beginning of boarding the ship. Bon Voyage!! Read Less

My sisters and I decided to give my mom and dad an all expense paid cruise as their Christmas gift 2012. We set to go this past December 2013. Adults only, we left the children at home. Just my mom and dad and their children and in laws. We had an awesome time on Carnival Elation. Though I have been to Cozumel a few times it was Mom and Dad's first time and they loved it. They enjoyed the tour of the island and Mayan Ruins and they enjoyed just being on the boat. I think being on a cruise with your family is just awesome. We had time to get away from each other and than Dinner time to come back with details from the day and make plans for the next day. One negative was that the water was a little more ruff the first day or so and it made a couple people have to stay in their room, but other than that we had a great time. We look forward to doing it again in a new place but on Carnival for sure! Read Less
