If you are looking for upper class society experience, this ship is not for you. Costa Victoria is a very laid back, relax ship. Overall, this is a ship without big wow factor like rock climbing or ice skating rink. It is quite an old ship, but some hardware have been upgraded since the editor review was made. Costa card now opens the door as well, so you can just bring one card around the ship. The inside room is tiny but the beds are very comfortable. I fall asleep almost instantly every night. Bathroom is small but for Southeast Asian size it is good. The most fabulous thing about the cruise is the programme newspaper. It tells you literally everything. It have every info you need on board and even reminds you about things you might forget. Following the programs will make you sufficiently busy the whole day. Shows at night is nice but we all feel that the Michael Jackson show could be better... Maybe there's too much emphasis on that one show. The other shows are equally good, if not better than Michael Jackson show. Food are OK, be warned there are A Lot of bread and cakes. If you are a rice person, there is always a pot of rice at the end of buffet line at Bolero. Sit down restaurant have rice options as well. The indian food are nice. Guests on board are all really casual. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Read Less

This is the first time travel in a cruise, I really enjoy these days! When I get on the cruise, every staffs are very nice with smile and direct us to the cabin clearly. I went there with my boyfriend. Although the cabin is not very big, it is clean and comfortable like a tiny hotel. We need to gather in the hall first to learn basic survival knowledge. Then we went to have our buffet dinner. It is convenience that we only bring our room card to record all our expenses. The buffet did not have much choice but taste good. We went to the deck after dinner. The wind was tender and full of stars on the sky. How a romantic night for us! It is quite difficult to see this beautiful sky in urban city now. If we didn’t get on the boat, we will miss it! The next day we enjoy breakfast in room, it came fast in warm temperature, nice! Then we swam in pool with sunshine, so relaxing! I also had a spa, it was relaxed. The staffs were considerate of my body with soft message and my boyfriend went to gym, he told me the fitness center was big. They played music inside and serve with towel, cool water to all guests. We met at the function hall, there was a show tonight, the MC was funny drove everyone being crazy and happy. The disco and casino opened until late night, we have so much fun inside! We met a young couple as well. They have come twice already and also agreed the service of Costa was good, very suitable for them to spend their holiday here. When we arrived on Malaysia, we took few hours to land on the beach. Sunset on beach was stunning! We ate something before back to cruise if we can stay longer, that’s must be prefect! It is really an enjoyable trip for us to escape from the busy city. The staff’s services are good and won’t feel boring or dull during the trip. Costa brings me a memorable cruise travel. I will come back when I feel tired again. Read Less

I have a wonderful trip with my wife and kids during Chinese New Year this year. Our family went on Costa Victoria’s New Year Cruise which had many festive events planned out. Due to unforeseen circumstances that happened at home, my family could not celebrate it back in Hongkong, thus we decided to travel out to spend this one-of-kind New Year in a different way. And I’m glad we did it. My sons are big eaters like me, and we had the chance to eat non-stop onboard. The pizza onboard was marvelous! And the CNY dinner reminds us the festive feelings of Chinese New Year, despite being on the waters. There were little dim sum, lou hei… and I didn’t expected to have so much chinese traditional dishes onboard an Italian ship, I’m quite surprised! Aside to activities, there were many rowdy activities such as dancing and performances. Though none of my family are fans of the special-feature HK singer, we did enjoy all the night-time shows, fun to watch the MJ impersonator perform and other Italian shows. If you have not been onboard Costa Victoria before and deciding if you should take this cruise, here are some points that you’d find useful in making your decision: Costa App: Allows you to communicate with guests onboard. It is free being able to communicate with each other especially when you have a big group on board, is very crucial Rooms: The rooms are cleaned everyday and choosing a room with a balcony is highly recommended. Nothing beats waking up to the serenity of the sea. The hygiene and cleanliness is alright. The only gripe is that the bathroom is too small! Activities: There will be a info sheet placed inside your room before the start of each day, and there is hardly an hour where there is no activity going on. The cruise is constantly busy with an event, so there is definitely no worry about getting bored or dull. Read Less

If you are an Asian looking for a cruise experience, you might want to think twice about cruising with Costa Victoria. Most international cruise lines have a wide variety of food that includes Asian cuisine, but Costa Victoria is an Italian ship line that offers more Italian food than others. Be prepared to choose from a predominately western-european menu that includes no Asian food. You can look for some culinary comfort when you order noodles at night, but even so, the taste is rather bland. Aside from an Italian eatery experience that I couldn’t get used to, the activities are nonetheless the highlight of my trip. The performances and facilities were enjoyable when you consider the amount of money you pay for the trip. It is very reasonable. There were a lot of dancing and performances that showcased the Italian culture- something that is different from the other cruises, and if you want to get a glimpse of Italy, this is the cruise to be on board. Furthermore, there’s no pressure for a nice dress code because their dining halls and concert theaters do not require a jazzy prim get-up. You can come in comfortable berms and shirt, which I really appreciate, especially when on a holidays. Read Less

This cruise was booked to celebrate my husband's big birthday and was a once in a lifetime event for us. We picked it mainly because the advertising stated we would be visiting the orangutangs in Borneo but it just happened to be part of a cruise holiday. We have a bigger complaint against the tour operator which have nothing to do with the cruise but we also have a lot to say about the actual cruise, our expectations and what we got. As far as the cruise is concerned here are my views. We were led to believe that this was a 4 star ship (and is still being advertised as such). In my opinion it was 2 / 3* and very poor. In all the decor was good and we were well looked after by our cabin girl (cleaning, making beds etc). However, we paid extra for a sea view cabin which was just big enough for a double bed with 9" on each side to get in, there was a small dressing table and a corner unit with shelves holding a TV. The porthole was above the bed and you have to stand on the bed to see out. The shower was smaller than those on Brittany Ferries which do overnight crossings, and we were provided with one miniature bar of soap between two of us for the whole voyage. There was a soap dispenser inside the shower stall which contained some harsh soap product. Because we had a long plane journey we were advised not to take too much by way of shampoo, conditioners etc (by firends) as these would be provided. We were sadly disappointed. We stayed in Travel Lodge a couple of nights after this cruise and we paid £33 for a double room and all toileteries were included, which I would have expected on a 4* cruise. Our first main impression was the food. The menu was impressive and everything looked amazing - until it arrived on your plate. They served courses out of order, food was cold or undercooked or just not what was ordered and in general mealtimes were a shambles and the food inedible. We complained to the waiters many times asking them to change dishes to what we had actually ordered or to re-cook something and, although none of this was their fault, they soon became annoyed and rude. May I state that on our table of 8 people 6 people had to send their meals back on the first night and it continued throughout the cruise. This is to say, it was not that we were over fussy but everyone was complaining. I can understand the staff becoming surly but when I asked to speak to the manager or the chef, nothing happened, no-one would speak to us. We also tried the self-service restaurant and found the food to be placed around the area in a very haphazard way, in old-fashioned serving dishes, which were often left open, making the food cold. We also found the same thing in the dishes day after day. We were assured that it was fresh food every time but who wants mashed courgettes for lunch, then dinner and then breakfast. I expected a buffet to be laid out with beautiful salads and fruits and choices of meats etc but it was just meat and 2 veg like a school canteen. We were expecting 24 / 24 hour food availability but when we had to miss lunch one day (again, due to a mess up by the staff) we found that there was no food available until 6pm and that was in the burger bar, then later and into the early hours you could get a pizza. Not quite fine dining. We did not chose to have the pre-paid drinks package as neither of us drink much alcohol so £28 a per each seemed a bit steep for a couple of glasses of wine. We could not buy the pre-paid soft drinks package as it was for under 17 year olds. That left us paying for everything. You got juice and tea/coffee a breakfast but at other meals everything was extra. So you got your meal then had to pay for a cup of coffee or a glass of water. Water was charged at US$ 4.98 per bottle. When we bought a bottle of wine with dinner we only had one glass and they would not allow us to take it into one of the lounges to finish at our leisure, or to our cabin to enjoy later. Not allowed. If you wanted anything for your cabin you had to pay for the drink (of course) but then pay US$ 9 to have it delivered, plus, lets not forget the 15% surcharge on everything, delivery and the drink or food. Next we had a problem with the excursions. We didn't book in advance as we were travelling between our home, our stopover in the UK and the airport when the information arrived. However, we did make all our bookings on the 2nd evening of the cruise and were happy with our choices. However, they lost our bookings and could not offer us any alternative or squeeze us in somewhere as everything was fully booked. They have since said it was our fault for not booking in advance but what difference would that have made if they had lost them too. It was not that we didn't book. THEY LOST OUR BOOKINGS. That mean't we had to find our own way about when the ship docked, and, unfortunately, the staff had no information about where to do, what to do independently and the ship did not even provided currency exchange as we were landing in ports with unknown currencies (such as Borneo, Brunei, Boracay etc). They didn't even know (we found out for ourselves) that the welcoming committes from each country were providing all the services the ship should have, and free of charge (i.e. no charge for changing money back and forth, free hat, bottles of water etc). As for the entertainment. We had to eat out meal at a set time and were not allowed to change that. At the end of each meal we were herded into an auditorium and were 'entertained' by what was no better than amateurish singers. One chap was quite good but I could have heard him at a local kareoke night. The shows lasted 40 minutes when the lights went up you were herded out where you had a choice of sitting in a bar or going to the casino. I expected music and dancing. Again, I was disappointed. When we did get off the ship to go ashore it could take up to 2 hours to wait your turn - this being because we were not booked on organised tours (reasons above) and spent only about 2 or 3 hours on shore, walking around the dock side and port area. To then wait up to 2 hours to get back on board, which was started early therefore cutting your time ashore even shorter. Just one final thing. Having found that there were no toiletries in the cabin we then discovered there was no shop on board to buy such things. Yes, you could buy expensive, designer watches and jewellery, you could pay US$80 for a massage or go to the salon to get your hair done. But you couldnt buy a bottle of shampoo or conditioner. To add insult to injury, no matter how much you complain, they are still happy to take a further 10% in a tipping charge, so no idea what the 15% surcharge was. I just hope that if someone is thinking of booking this cruise that you think twice. We have telephoned them to ask about the ship and according to them it is a 4* luxury cruise. When we asked for details of the ship, food, entertainment etc they said - you can read about it on the Costa website. Please .... don't go. We wasted £3,900 on this trip. But more than that, we didnt get to see any of the places we docked at and there was no trip to an orangutang reserve, just a zoo, but that is another story. Read Less

I travelled with Costa and it was my first cruise experience. It was a short getaway with my JC friends as we wanted to get away from work for awhile before the year starts. As this was my cruise expedition, I didn’t know what to expect but it was a good experience overall! However, as necessary as it sounds, I must remind anyone who’s about to take the cruise that COSTA CRUISE IS FROM AN ITALIAN COMPANY. It’s one of the cruises DNA and main selling point that separates this cruise from other cruise lines. So, logically, their menu will consist of Italian food like pizza and pasta! It’s funny that we met other fellow Singaporeans who complained to no end about the cruise, saying that the food has not enough Chinese variety. Furthermore, as crazy as it sounds, even though I am not a frequent cruise taker, I for one, know that due to the ship’s engine, the beds will vibrate slightly at night, and the food may not taste as delicious due to mass preparation! It was quite embarrassing for me to find out that the people who complained are Singaporeans, and they grumble about not having enough Chinese dishes and that the engine makes too much noise at night. To all reviewers out there, please have a fair judgment on this! Don’t blame Costa for your own unrealistic expectations and shallow reasoning. The beds may vibrate slightly at night, but it did not affect my sleep nor wake me up in the middle of the night. Furthermore, taking this cruise is to allow you to experience the different variety of Italian cuisine! Be adventurous and stop sticking to your Chinese appetite. Even so, when I was craving for some Chinese comfort, Costa did provide hot soup wanton noodles and dumplings at night during their supper meal. Absolutely wonderful and I see no reason to complain. Thumbs up for Costa for sticking true to your Italian roots and always keeping a smile despite dealing with unreasonable people. Ciao! Read Less

The first cruising trip with my boyfriend. We were so excited for it. This was something we longed for a very long time. A 6D5N trip, from Shanghai to Nagasaki and Kobe is our choice. We booked for a balcony cabin because of the limited budget. Both of us believed in an old saying in Chinese: a buck in exchange of a buck’s worth service. So we didn’t expect much. In contrast, the sea view turns out to be absolutely stunning!! We had a great time spending overnight in the balcony. We watched the sunrise with the dolphins swimming. The buffet area was filled with sea and sky view. In fact, we enjoyed the view more than the food. The food was not bad though. They was traditional Italian dessert called “Cannoli” which I love the most! If you like to eat dessert, you couldn’t leave without eating it in the Club Restaurant. Swimming alone was always a precious sport to pursue. I went to the swimming pool 30 minutes after the meal. I felt flesh and blood after exercises. So did my mind. I didn’t remember the route to get to my room! I got lost! Haha. Fortunately leading the way back to my room was part of the customer service. The staffs was nice enough to lead me until I set foot in the door. We went offshore and had a One-Day Tour in Nagashima. The atmosphere and clean environment in Nagashima were excellent. There were so much entertainments to we could do in the ship. Live music, Opera each night after dinner, art and craft sessions. We joined the Captains Night once. We got dressed up and showed off. LOL. This was our first taste of cruising. After all, we felt great and would definitely bring my parents next time and let them feel how relax I felt this time. After this trip, I concluded who suitable for cruising trip. 1. People who won’t have seasick: you could feel the cruise shaking 2. Family trip with seniors: you don’t need to spend too much energy on moving from one spot to another. Keep packing and unpacking the luggage is tedious thing to do.   Read Less

We sailed from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Hong Kong. We travelled with 4 adults and 1 child. Our cruise was 3 sailings in 1 for us so three times people got off and on. I am one that looked at the reviews and thought oh it cannot be that bad. Many issues that have been reported are now fixed. Embarking in Singapore, excursions, Visas, passports and shuttles. All justified and not a problem. The bad review is due to numerous things that took place. Day 1. We were awakened at 3:30am the first night as something fell down from the upper bunk from my daughter's bed. We turned on lights to hand her back her bear when I looked over to my pillow I noticed a bug round and flat. I flicked it off the bed thinking nothing off it as I was tired and then I realized OMG that's a bed bug. I threw back the duvet to find 6 more in plain sight. I got dressed and ran down to reception. They had a manager come confirm the issue and supplied us a new cabin and asked that we follow up in the morning about new cabin. So at 4am we moved our belongings without assistance and moving our young child from bed to a cabin down the hall. The manager on duty insisted we see the dr. on board and when she told me the expense I stated we had to bites and we would be fine as it would have been over $400 for this first. It took us nearly 1 hour to get moved and no person was in sight. Day 2. We woke up had breakfast and then went to reception to find out what was to happen next. Might I add that there is usually 1 person at this desk at all times and minimum 30 min wait on any occasion due to translation issues. At this time we were told our original cabin was being fumigated and the temporary cabin was vacant the rest of cruise and awaiting manager approval to move permanently. The new room toilet broke every time we used it and cabin smelt of sewage. The maintenance came 3 times that day to fix it and in the end we ended up using the toilet in old cabin as it was not working. The AC is another issue it did not work at all. Something about a clogged vent and while in a climate of 90 degrees plus left us no other option but to sleep nearly unclothed. So the conditions of the temp cabin were just as bad as old. Day 3. This day we went on our excursion to return to room with a note to see reception. Another 45 minutes waiting in line and 30 minutes to reach a resolution. They were moving us back to original cabin due to it being ALL CLEAR. I through a fit and the reception didn't even blink an eye. She said they sold the cabin we are in for new leg of trip and stated the bugs were gone and won't come back. So instead of sit down dinner we placed our daughter in kids club and moved yet again. Since they wanted us moved before stewards came on shift. Oh I forgot that it was my holiday for a second not to put anyone else out. Seriously. So we moved back to the original cabin. Day 4. This day our Costa cards froze due to being swapped around so much so no drinks for us today. Took another 45 minutes in line to sort that out. We had been in contact with our agent in the states and that evening we received a fruit bowl for all our troubles. I guess an apple, orange and mango will fix it right. Day 5. Came back from day in Singapore to have our steward tell us other rooms around us had bed bugs too now. 6 in total on the floor we were on. After numerous fumigations they were not dying. Well great I thought. So the evening comes and after dinner we settle in for the night. Watching movies in bed on the IPad until I felt something on my leg and I jumped out. Sure enough they were back and this time 3 fold. Steward was on duty and I called him in right away to look at them. He radioed manager on duty and I went down to reception. This time I was greeted by a manager MariaLuisa. She was genuine and concerned about everything. She ordered that our clothes be washed and our bags be fumigated. We were being upgraded from inside to outside cabin far away from our original cabin. She had 3 stewards assisting in moving our things and called once we moved to ensure we settled in. Everything was fine in cabin except the smoke smell that was so bad. This evening they offered to pay for the dr. visit if required. Day 6. We had a very early morning excursion and decided since we upgraded to premium we should order in breakfast. Well they showed up 30 minutes after time they were intended to and then demanded we pay for a service we already paid for. Stated our cabin was not listed on premium and that to hand over $21 for a late and cold breakfast. I asked her kindly to leave our cabin and speak with management or steward about breakfast as we were not having it. As we run down stairs with moments to spare as out excursions was literally leaving the ship my husband got us a coffee and croissant each. On arrival we find the tenants next to us are smoking in there room that is connected to ours and the smoke was coming through the cracks in the door. This was fixed by using tape around the door and spraying our room down with a perfume of some sort. 45 more minutes in line at customer service. Our steward provided us with fruit and prosecco for our troubles with breakfast as he was unaware either about premium. Day 7. Costa Cards frozen again and more time wasted fixing something that we should not have been. This day also entailed us calling our US bank to verify in front of manager that it was not a prepay debit we were using for cruise purchases. Day 8-12 were a combination of lost excursion tickets due to them swapping us numerous times. The desk had them for nearly 6 days before telling us our Vietnam tickets were placed in the temp cabin not occupied by someone else. This was done wrong even after we told excursion desk we moved a 3rd time. Excursion for Hong Kong was cancelled after booking 2 months in advance. They were charging service charge for my child even though their site specifically stated no service for under 14. A heated 9pm argument with desk about that left me bitter and upset with Costa even more. You take what's not yours and I have stayed in hostels cleaner than that of our cabin. They froze up our friends cards too from same bank and there room became infested with bed bugs during their linen change. Day 13. Last night on cruise and we were pulled in by management about our fees. We were told our agent had been on contact with the ship and we did not have to pay gratuities in the end due to all the trouble we incurred. So the people that helped us in room, restaurant and spa won't get a fee that is made for them due to issues that customer service caused. Does not seem fair at all in my opinion and we signed the paper we would pay them on our own and we did. In the end our cruise itinerary was amazing. My daughter loved the kids club apart from the fact that while we sailed over New Year's they were due to have a party for them and cancelled it due to lack of participation. In fact it was due to crew wanting to party it up as I spoke with other parents who looked forward to the event. Oh and as we went to bed early due to closing the kids club early we were awoken at 11:45pm by a Italian screaming over intercom counting down till midnight. Not just once but numerous times and over whole PA system. By the end of the cruise 9 rooms became infested and it's rather sad that sanitation is not better. They ruined a large percentage of clothes they washed as well as they were combined with what looked to be a dark blue towel in which ever thing turned blue. So for the last week I wore items that were discolored and I disappointed as the items were still new just for our first cruise. I wasted my time with my family waiting in lines for things that should not be an issue. I spent no kidding upwards of 7 hours dealing with the customer service staff to resolve issue after issue. The pool was closed on nearly both sea days and not a lot was offered on board to do during this time. So a lot of dead time was spent in the cabin. Read Less

I took my mam on a cruise last year as we wanted a holiday and had never been cruising. We flew from Dublin to London and then stayed overnight in a hotel in London before we flew out to Venice. I had been to Venice before but had flown To Bergamo on that occasion which was a bit of a nuisance as it was not a direct journey to get to Venice from there! We embarked in Venice after a trip from the airport on a speed boat! What wonderful views of the area we got! the embarkation was so straight forward and organised it was great to hand over the bags and then have them in the cabin when we got to it! The Ship was well organised and signposted well. There were different styles of decor in the various bars and restaurants which was lovely. We chose to eat in the Top Deck restaurant on two occasions as a treat! We had a ball - the food was gorgeous - the staff were wonderful - they had lovely manners and paid great attention to detail. We took advantage of the spa and pool facilities on more than one occasion! We did an excursion on every day except the first one! It was great to see the best bits of each port in an organised way. We went to the theatre every night and had a few cocktails also! The different bars had selections of entertainment which was a change to being stuck with the same entertainment when out at home!! I would totally cruise again. Read Less
