We had an amazing time during our stay on Costa Victoria mainly because of the nice friendly and helpful staff. We travelled with our 7 year old son who was treated like a Prince by all staff on the ship but mainly the animation team and kids club. Ferdy and Sara were exceptionally good with him, most of the staff is Italian nd most of the guests were French spraking but they all made my son included and welcomed. I was happy my son made so many friends even though he can only speak Polish and English, the language is not a barrier he loved his time in the kids club. The animation team work so hard, special thanks to Ralph who was the kindest person on the ship, Francesco the sports instructor and crazy Marco. The staff at the restaurant were incredible as well and made up for the bad food at times. Donna the waitress is so lovely and helpful always smiling. The exurcions are terribly expensive, it's much cheaper to get something on the land. WE MET SO MANY nice people on the ship and on the land and visited hidden gems and that's what we are grateful for. The food, drinks packages and service charges are things we want to quickly forget about ;) Thank you to the staff of Costa Vicortia who made our journey so special Read Less

The reason I decided to write this review is to warn those people who privilege the rest and sleep at night to dancing and partying (I am not judging here, cruises are the right place for such things, just claiming my share of pleasure-the night's sleep): this is an old ship and there is practically no sound isolation. My cabin ( 11101 if i remember well) was exposed to very loud music to the point things were trembling each night from 23 till 1.00. Earplugs were not helpful. In this ship it is either one is lucky to have one's cabin far enough from the epicenter or not. Hospitality did not offer any sustainable solution either. Having paid about 4000 euros for three persons in a suite for a week's time, I really think it was a pitiful investment. This was a real shame, because on the whole the total experience was not awful at all. The club restaurant provided very friendly personalized service accompanied by quite acceptable and sometimes deliscious food. I could say Edd and Err saved our expeprience on the whole. Excursions, inspite of all the efforts of the guides, were not at their best, because the poor guides had to speak up to 4 languages which resulted in repeating one thing like where to find the toilettes and where to meet up to 4 times...Very little space left for cultural information. Spa on this ship is a joke and not worth a try, a shame again because it used to be a good part of a cruise activity for me and family. Finally, a valuable info for coffee lovers: traditionnally, on all Costa ships I travelled coffee is a very delicate issue: my point is, the americano they are offering in general service, is below human dignity, while the one in the bars is too strong for a morning. Well, I could order a cappucino, but I do not drink milk... My personal solution was to pack a little french press coffee maker and the brand I am used to. It could serve for a good verbal tea as well. Hot water is something one can always count on Costa company! The last but not least-many thanks to our cabin butler Yan for his perfect service and friendly smile. Read Less

Greatly recommend to those who are keen to go for a cruise managed by a poor management who always put on an "unhappy" face on all their cruise with no proper instructions given and when questions were raised by their guest to their crew, the standard reply was "I don't know, please check with another crew.". Also if you do not wish that the crew to enter your cabins, do remember to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign at your door as our room was entered multiple times for no particular reasons even though we didn't call for housekeeping and we realised that our laptop had been touched ( as we left room for a short time to attend their concert, we left our laptop open and when we were back, it was closed and the whole room was pitch dark - even side table lights were offed. ) When asked to the information counter, they said we didn't put "DTD" thus the crews can enter and leave anytime they like. Toilets were filled with moulds at bathing area, beds were stained with black stains even after a housekeeping session done.. Smoke can be smelt along the corridor of the cabins, insufficient kettles available as well. The adapter given by the crew had sparks coming out from it when it was plucked it and when asked for an exchange, the crew said that they ran out of it. Long queues during meal times and there was no one controlling the crowd nor guiding the passengers. Ice cream stall only open for 1 meal throughout the 5 days of cruise. Speciality restaurant does not offer all indicated food items and we were not told before we sat down for our meal. Waste of money. There is 3 eating area for the passengers, however, only 2 is available as 1 is converted to "FOR SUITE" passengers only. We purchased the non-alcoholic beverage package but the crew would keep on telling us that the non-alcoholic drinks are not included and we had to pay extra (don't buy package as they don't honour it). No proper lightings near the swimming pool where some kids are found running in dark as well which is very dangerous. Entertainment were the same for the 5 days. Poor management on disembarkation and embarkation as well as no proper direction nor instructions given, announcement system is also not clear. Overall, its a waste of money and time, both my partner and I are very displeased with the service provided, management control, experience, condition of the cabin and the embarkation and disembarkation process. This is not our first time cruising on a cruise liner but it will be the first time and LAST TIME cruising with COSTA VICTORIA. Read Less

I am eager to write this review in order to increase this cruise rating. After my mom paid for this cruise, she did a bit of research about Costa Victoria. Mostly was awful, so we almost cancelled our cruise and let the money go instead of wasting our time. But it is our last trip with my brother before he went overseas, so we decided to go. And seriously, this is my first cruise and it is AWESOME! well, for me the ship was huge (although they said it's a small ship). Food was FREE (even for semi fine dining version), unlimited and great (especially for indian food), but you have to pay for other premium drinks. the timing was PERFECT (23 Dec at 22.00 until 27 Dec 14.00). I respect all of the crew members that give their best effort to serves us day and night with their best smile to ensure our best experience on cruise (THANK YOU!). The cabin design is old fashioned, but CLEAN, they clean our cabin twice a day. Endless parties and event for sure. Definitely WORTH IT for their value for money. To get this personal, I'm 22 yrs old and I came from Indonesia. Not really the best cruise for my age, but I totally recommend this cruise for FAMILY who had kids around 12 yrs old. Read Less

**Please do not ever take Costa Victoria Ship, Italian Cruises.** My purpose for this post is not to complain, but more of making sure that the public do not get the same poor experience as I did. I went with my family (as a group of 20) and here is a brief summary of what happened in the 4d3n cruise experience (Starting from the most pertinent problem to trivial ones) 1. Bedbugs Upon entering the cabin, my cousin and I checked for bedbugs but all seemed clear and the cabin looked decent. When I returned to my cabin at 3am and after showering and lying down on the bed for a while, I started feeling itchy around my back and neck. I got up to check in the mirror and saw clusters of bites and I guessed my worst fears came true. I immediately went to check my bed and noticed a couple of tiny bloodstains which were not there previously. Then I saw some live bedbugs under my blanket which I killed. I did not want to wake my cousin to change the room immediately as it was already very late and we were going to wake up early the next day hence I waited it out. The following morning, I saw an even larger bedbug below my pillow. (to be continued) 2. Response to situation a. My cousin and I went to the information counter to inform them of the situation. The first response from the staff? "You sure it's bed bugs? Did you see the actual insect?" Instead of showing concern for the customer, their first response was to attempt to weasel out of the situation and divert the blame. With some reluctance, they offered to conduct an investigation (to ascertain if I was lying) and asked me to check back the counter in an hours' time. After 2 hours, they finally finished their "investigation" and the first option they offered was: To do a thorough cleaning of room and change of bedsheets, not a change of room. In cases of bedbugs, deep cleaning is required and is normally done by professionals that have the necessary tools and chemical to exterminate bedbugs but they said 2 hours of cleaning would get rid of the bugs. Of course, we would not accept that and eventually got a change of room and before we moved into our new room, we had to go back up to the old cabin to retrieve our luggage. When we got up, the room looks new and clean, with bed sheets changed as well (They probably noticed the bloodstains and some bedbugs) and there I saw 1 bedbug crawling by the side (As shown in the video attached). ** After our cruise, there is another batch of passengers and there is no time to conduct deep cleaning of the rooms. (I'd leave it to you to imagine what is going to happen) b. I asked for some cream to apply on the bites to stop the itch and inflammation - they said they do not have any cream - If I go to the medical center I have to pay for it (despite me sustaining the bites onboard) [to be continued] 3. Medical Center There was a SECOND incident of bedbugs in a separate room (of my uncle's), so I tried again on the following day and finally understanding the severity of the situation, they offered to bring me to the medical center on the ship's account. - Went there, sat for 30 minutes while the Italian doctors/medic were conversing in Italian even though it is a straightforward case: Saw the picture of the bug, inspect the bite, and prescribe me the cream - Amidst their conversation, my cousin and I figured from the English words they used "Complaint", "Ship's account", "Bedbugs", "report", and they finally gave me the cream and 2 of them talked amongst themselves, suggesting "Allergy" - From our inference, the waiting time was for them to determine how to write their report so as to absolve the blame from the ship, probably by claiming that I had allergies rather than getting bedbug bites. 4. Facilities / Activities Limited entertainment facilities: - Spa (That was an indoor pool with cold seawater) - Gym (Was decent) - Sauna (Too small) - Theatre (Which has almost no activities) - Outdoor pool (1 baby pool, 4 jacuzzis, 1 normal pool of only 10m) - Card Room (Looks decent but we did not use it) - Casino (Outdated and combined withthe kid's arcade, which is extremely inappropriate) - Kids' club (Acts as a childcare centre, which is actually not bad) - Disco (That I have no idea what it's for) - Basketball court (The only thing that is at the top deck) - DFS Repeated/boring activities: - Seminars (Often conducted under different names but it's the same activity) - Some dance classes - Italian lesson (1 hour on the 3rd day?) **The activities may not be bad, but there is limited engagement because the staff are simply not passionate enough and passengers can feel it. **No free drinking water, not even water dispensers, everything has to be paid for (Even those in the suites only get 1 bottle a day) 5. Service ***** After playing in the casino, I went to ask for some water. - The staff said I can only get bottled water - I asked if there was plain water - She said "Do you want bottled water or tap water?" - I asked, "Is the tap water drinkable?" (Knowing that ship's tap water is not potable) - "No" - If the tap water is not drinkable, why would she even offer that?! If it's others who did not know, she would have given it to them. - Hard to get smiles on the staff - Staff works extremely slow (It takes us around 40 mins to be served in the restaurants) [Most likely due to lack of enthusiasm and culture created from top-down] 5. Feedback form - Towards the end of the cruise, some of us had to attend the disembarking briefing, and they wanted us to fill up this feedback form - Instead of asking for our sincere feedback and ways in which they could improve upon, they EXPLICITLY stated that for Q1: How has your cruise experience been? [ We should fill in Excellent only] & Q16: Would you recommend Costa Victoria to your friends and family? [ We should fill in 'Yes, definitely!'] - That night, they made 2 announcements to submit our feedback form and EMPHASIZED to fill in the 2 questions as suggested - The following morning, at 0900 hrs and 0930 hrs, they made the same announcement re-emphasizing the need to fill in the 2 questions as such. **A good cruise would never have to worry about customers' feedback. The fact that they constantly reminded us to answer the questions in a certain way made a lot of us sick to the stomach. 6. Food / Miscellaneous I wish Gordon Ramsay was there -- it would have been 'Cruise Nightmares'. The food was so trashy that it was a slimming cruise for me. - In one of the photos, is the crabs where the gills are not even removed (One of the dirtiest parts of the crab) - Lobsters: For the first 3 days, we had the option to pay USD15 to purchase a lobster meal, but on the 3rd night, we were offered that option. It was not fresh to the extent that it tasted like mashed potato stuffed in lobster shells. - Steak: Felt stale and had a gross aftertaste, something I never had before - So-called fine dining experience: Is actually 'recycled' food from the buffet area. - Virtually nothing was beyond edible, even those that we had to pay for (E.g. USD8.50 pizzas that used frozen dried shrimps that had a stale taste) - However, the desserts are generally not bad. This whole experience has been so bad (and you can see the aftermath of the bites I suffered, not just limited to the back). We paid about 400+USD for 4D3N but there were so many other costs, such as COMPULSORY tips, paid water, paid food, paid activities. Until now, Royal Carribean still remains the best experience one can have (Having a dedicated crew that serves you during meal time, polite staff, fun activities and a myriad of onboard activities to do) So, please, I implore anyone out there who is considering a cruise trip to not scrimp on 200USD and just go for Royal Carribean, not Costa Cruise. Before I go on to Costa Victoria, I read that most of the review are bad. But I will like to comment, overall, we enjoyed the whole cruising. Checking in the luggage was a breeze, boarding, to last day collection of passport n arrival back to Singapore. Greet by every staff. The male service crew in all the restaurants or buffet corners are all very friendly, they can remember you and joke with you, but not the female crew, no smile, for food, u can't expect high grade but last night we got lobster n lamb grill was really good. Try to go for the A la carte but queue half n hr earlier. Even embarkment to Phuket, Penang n Malacca is a breeze too. But try to aim for the 1st ferry for Phuket. For activities, most of the staff are nice. The pool is seawater but the jacuzzi is normal pool water. House keeping fold us an elephant using towels, mine is a balcony premium cabin, big room. Everyday my room is clean n nice. Read Less

This cruise is great for families with or without kids. From the moment we check-in our luggage to the queuing to go into the ship was a breeze. Staff at check-in was very efficient. When we finally got to embark on the ship it was fun all the way. The staff gave a very warm welcome. Throughout the cruise, staffs were very courteous and helpful. Cabin was very clean although the mattress was hard. We had 2 pillows each and we slept very well. For our first meal we dined at Bolero. The food is good but not fantastic. Ambience of the restaurant was so-so. We decided that we will not be having our meals there anymore. We tried the other two restaurants, Sinfornia and Fantasia. They have better variety of food there. Still good but not fantastic. Much better than Bolero. Buffet menu is the same everyday. I must give good credits for the entertainment and activities. It was so much fun with all the parties, dancing and games. The live entertainment was amazing. I would give it 5 star for the dancers. Would I go again? Yes I would but hopefully they change their daily buffet menu. Read Less

I choose this cruise because I wanted to try a different experience and I expected a little more from an old, Italian ship. I have cruised before Star Cruise Virgo & Gemini. I would say they are so much better. Bascially, it is just like any other critiques that i saw from the internet about the ship. For the first day, it was already a hectic. Nobody told us where to queue for checking in onboard. My boyfriend and I checked in our luggage and went straight to ask for more information about checking in. We were told from a costa uncle that we just have to queue along with the crowd and wait for our colored tags to be called. First we arrived at the scene, the crowd was overwhelming. Everything were just not organised. There was no line to queue. Everyone was just queuing in whatever way they like. So we queued along with them. After about an hour, my boyfriend realized we were in the wrong queue. We are Singaporeans and yet we are queuing at the foreigner's passport side. Nobody even asked us whether we are Singaporeans or not. So we wasted an hour plus queuing for what is not supposed to be for us.It was really ridiculous given that we arrived at the terminal 1 hour earlier and could have already be inside the ship rather than queuing for the wrong queue. Following, we checked in to our cabin and we started boiling water. The water tasted WEIRD! The water has a taste of metal and salt. I cannot believe even water doesn't work for us. We even had to purchase 1.5 litres of water bottle to drink fresh mineral water on the cruise. So we couldn't even make hot water to enjoy the teabags in the room. We pay for the cruise, the onboard gratuities and yet we have to pay for fresh mineral water too. It is seriously too much. After settling everything, we decided to turn in for the night. Our bed were 2 single beds joined together so both of us slept on different single beds. The next morning, my boyfriend had bites from bed bugs. It was terrible. Initially, we did not know whether it is a bed bug or mosquito bites. Hence, we just shrug it off. After the 2nd night, the bites got worse for my boyfriend. It was huge, red, swollen marks. So, I decided to write a note to the housekeepers and requested them to sanitized the bed. And they did. The service crew also called to check in on this matter which was professional. Not that I wanted to pursue this matter but it is just not right to do things halfway. Everyday the housekeeping team would make the cabins. However, i realize they did not take the effort to sanitized it properly. If they did, there would not have any bed bugs. The reason why i say they never sanitized our beds every time is through the smell. The day when they sanitized our beds was when we complained about the bed bugs, right away after they make our cabin, we could smell the sanitizers. Yet, for the other days, there are none. The next ridiculous thing is dining. The ciabatta breads was SO HARD that i could throw the bread and knock out someone. The food was not that bad. However, it was just a repetition. Almost every lunch and dinner for ala carte, the food is very similar. It was like the chefs do not know how to cook other dishes other than the same old dishes. We had the 'sherbet of the day' - pineapple for 3 days straight. How is that sherbet of the day? More like sherbet of the whole trip. It was like as if the pineapples from the buffet line had too much leftovers and they just come up with the idea of using the pineapples to make sherbet. Some food from the breakfast buffet line was also cold when we were the FIRST few customers to enter the buffet. This is just too much. I did not expect the 'beforehand prepared food' to be piping hot. However, I could have at least expected warm? The service from the buffet line was relatively okay. When we queuing for our lunch and dinner in the ala carte restaurants, the service staff actually allowed some customers who cut queue to enter the restaurant! That is so disappointing. People queued for a reason and it is to be fair. The worse thing is that the service staff actually allowed the customers who cut queue to enter the restaurant without even trying to stop them or asked them to queue. WHAT IS THE MEANING OF A QUEUE THEN?! At the last day of our cruise, we had lunch at a ala carte restaurant. We were the first few to get our orders done but we waited for the longest time. I do not blame the service for being slow because they are serving a lot of customers. The most outrageous thing is what I actually heard from one of the waiters. As we waited 1 hour for our appetizers, I asked one of the waiter (who is not in charge of serving food to our table) about our food. The waiter said:" Hi madam, this table is not my responsibility. You have to wait". My immediate reaction was like WHAT?! How could a waiter say that our table is not his responsibility when he did not even take the effort to check for our orders. Even if our table is not in charged by him, he should not even say that our table is not his responsibility. Anyone who had worked before F&B would even have the brains to know that whether or not the table is in charged by you, you should at least try to give a satisfactory reply to the customers. Moving on, the swimming pool was literally SALTY! I had mosquito bites a few days ago and i went swimming. The moment I dipped myself into the pool, i could feel my mosquito bites with intense pain. It was like putting salt onto my wound. Even my face was extremely painful after i swam a few rounds. Both the spa's swimming pool and the main pool is salty. It is not worth the swim. I swim to relax but instead it spoiled my mood. Last but not least, I would say i pay a rather absurd amount for the cruise. It is not worth the money. Everything onboard is by USD which makes it more expensive. On the trip, i had more worries than anything. It is supposed to be a fun-filled relaxing holiday but it turns out to be the worse. In total, i pay an extra 52 USD for onboard gratuities with a sum of $500+ of cruise fees. This cruise is totally not worth the money for the treatment i received. Other than the above mentioned, the staff of costa was rather friendly. Read Less

First cruise experience, and I felt like the review is not doing Costa Victoria the justice it deserved. All review was so negative, but in fact, it worth as far as the price we paid. It suitable for laid back Asian family, and that's it. Don't expect too much for over 25 years old ship. The pool are too small, and overall facilities was not a state of the art. About the service, it's not as nightmare as described as the early years of operations. Not excellent also, though. Ports experience was not winning any first impression prize. They start late and people are all crowded in less than suitable condition. But after that, in Phuket and Penang, everything was much better coordinated. The room is definitely cleaner than public area. Especially on the last day, the queue for ladies toilet and how awful the smell was, was terrible - if not traumatizing. So, overall it worth the money, by means if you still get their promo prize of cabin upgraded. More than that, good luck. You will lost the good value. Read Less

I became pessimistic while read some critics for this cruise, and my family already booked a trip for last December. But since I got into the cruise until the trip finished, my worries turned into satisfaction. First, the food was nice-I love their dessert and cakes!- and we got two times gala dinner with crab and lobster, which was delicious. Restaurants opened as promised, pizza station on midnight was a good idea, our favorite place after night games and dance. A bit critic is the drinking water, it would be much better if they provide more fresh water. Second, the staffs are amazing! They were friendly and nice, you can get information easily, the restaurant staff gave warm ambiance, and the dancers were so energetic. More interesting shows will be a good improvement, although we love the Michael Jackson show. Third, the cabin, pool, jacuzzi, and other facilities were well maintained. Yes, it is not a new cruise, but I saw almost no significant damage in it. Overall, I found it nice and cozy sailing with Costa, just want to give the credit and fair critic despite of bad reviews I saw. Good job! Read Less

Just returned from a 5D4N on Costa Victoria which departed from Singapore to Phuket & Langkawi. Would like to share with everyone my terrible experience onboard. 1) Food: Terrible, terrible, either very salty/sweet, over spicy/oily or tasteless, noodles were always over-cooked. Hoping to find some nice pasta or pizza since it's a Italian cruise ship but not at all....only have either penne or spaghetti with tomato sauce(taste like straight from a jar/canned) or creamy sauce, pizza served at the pizzeria was the same... terrible too......simple ingredients & tasteless. Worst...there's like 4 station for beverages but 3 were always CLOSED, juices only available on the first & last day of cruise for breakfast, ridiculous, water tastes just siphon from the sea, there's a sign indicating no topping up your water bottle using their water dispenser & they don't provide any bottled water in the cabin. Seems like the dishes that they served were all mass produced from a central kitchen, restaurants(sit-down dining & no pork) & buffet style(self-serve & no pork) serve the same dishes(no pork). Saw 1 of the filippino staff(higher rank then service staff) at the buffet area, he just pull down the blind even though there's guest still getting his/hers food before the closing time for breakfast/lunch/tea-break/dinner at the buffet area hurrying/chasing guest away. Non of the dining option operates round the clock. 2)Service: Service staff have horrible attitude, no training given to talk or serve their guest, staff were always talking loudly among themselves even there's guest around them, it's the same whether at the buffet or restaurant, no smile/greeting at all like we are there to bother them. Went to the restaurant for the so call GALA Dinner evening, hoping to have a nice meal after our first horrible encounter of food at the buffet area, after sitting down menu was not on the table and it take awhile for them to deliver the menu after having to ask a few times, again not happy to take order, when food arrives he just put them down on the table, is like nah your food is here, sort them out yourself( he didn't serve them accordingly to whoever's order) & eat it & don't you bother me attitude, btw food wasn't serve accordingly to the course, our salad came after our main. Dessert take a long time to be served so rejected it as we were already pretty full thinking no point bringing it, so server not happy & tried arguing w me(telling me he have a few tables(3) to look after...blah blah blah. Another issue, order 4 fish but server serve 3 first, just a reminder to him we have 4 & he replied he only have 1 hand to serve. 3)Ports: When docking at Phuket it takes us more than 1 hour to get on board the tender boat, having to walk down 3 levels to get to the tender boat is not an easy task for older people with some walking disabilities. 4)Ship: old ship, No proper signage or indication for guest to find their way around the ship. no "proper" pool for kids or adults to use just some "whirpool", not enough of lift working for guest who's not able to keep climbing up and down the stairs. "Public" toilets on the ship is dirty, smelly, floors are always wet. Floors on buffet area is always dirty, slippery & sometimes wet. Attention to Costa Victoria: You will have to learn how to do crowd control, 1st night fire-drilled was chaotic, no clear picture what to do for quite some cruiser and we have to stay at the outside of deck for almost half an hour shuffling here & there. Tender of boat also chaotic, have to wait like 1 hour for us to get out of the ship to go on shore. Have a proper training(proper way of serving, talking & responding to guest NOT by pointing fingers or shouting to their guest's face) before offering them a job or putting them on the floor to serve guest onboard. Staff with name tags stating able to converse in that particular language does not apply for your crew. Spend more money or get a different supplier on getting the food you are feeding to your guest not those "cheapo" & not so fresh stuff. We, paid guest on your cruise ship is to enjoy our holiday, NOT having to "suffered" and got dampened by the service your crew provide with their rude, don't come bother me attitude and we also there to enjoy at least some decent food & drinks. Choice of cruise was due to the attractive rates and yearly family get together bonding. We board at around 5.30pm, warm welcome and picture taking at entrance. My Costa Mobile App is very useful to communicate on board tapping on cruise Wifi. There is no lack of entertainments as daily schedule was given, dancing class, Michael Jackson show by Ice, Acrobatics Show, Movies, games, tournaments, dance party, lounge singing... Lots of "lepak" places. Deck 11 Self service buffet counter serve the same dishes at Indian Corner & International corner, however the mutton is very delicious. Yummy desserts too. Experience Authentic italian pizza at deck 12 for teabreak and supper. Pools are 1.4m too deep for children. Basket balls and ping pong bats are not so "good". Shore excursions was interesting however, when return there was chaotic at the tender boat boarding. Overall crew were helpful, despite some miscommunication issues due to coming from different country. Read Less

We have been on cruise 4 times and were in a big group. All were excellent except this cruiseliner. 1) ship is old, furniture are old and a chair broke in restaurant. SAFETY issues in Fantastia Restaurant and Sinfonia Restaurant - 2 BIG NAILS (6-10cm long) are found in the these restaurants with my young toddler picking them up on the floor at different timings in different restaurants! Luckily no one was hurt! This can be fatal if the child puts the nails in his mouth or anyone could have trip and fall onto the nails. I stil kept the photos of the nails found. 2) Cabin and public toiets - I encountered a few incidents in our cabin and public toilets in costa victoria with the toilet flushing system, no water to flush! could be the centralised water controlling system which has problem. One of our relatives room's air con auto on and off. Sometimes very cold, sometimes very stuffy. 3) Food were very salty on certain days. Drinking water in resturants can be yellowish at times. Salty drinking water, salty coffee and tea everyday. All the 3 main restaurants, buffet pool deck, Sinfonia and Fantastia Restaurants all served the same food for every meal. Sinfonia and Fantastia resturants close very early for breakfast, 9am! With only 1 restaurant at pool deck in the entire ship that is still open for breakfast at 9am, the dining capacity cannot even accomodate half the passengers. Bear in mind that this pool deck resturant which is still open is the only place on board where passengers can get water and coffee. Needless to say how crowded it was. We had to sit in an outdoor dirty table with rain splaterring in with kids, after queueing for some time at the egg station. The cook said "NO MORE EGSS" at 9.30am and the resturant closes for breakfast at 11.30am! 4) Poor entertainment and activities. No mascots, nothing much for kids to do. Squok club activities are not interesting. 5) Customer service - The human resource director and the customer service director needs a wake up call! 80% of the staff in general are unhelpful, unfriendly, rude at times, no smiles (as if they are under tremendous stress or fatique or u owe them money). Totally not service oriented. Please do not expect staff to smile at you or greet you good morning when they walk past you. If they do, u are in luck. Service is horrendous on board. Can u imagine a man in black suit (of a higher rank in the Italian pizza restaurant) insisted us to sit in a table which is not cleaned. When i tell him that the table is dirty, he just merely pick up some prawn shells and food and put in his hands and walk away. There were still food remainings, ketchup , pizza crust on the table which he didnt bother to take a cloth to clean nor ask his waiters to clean. Is not peak hour and all other tables were occupied or section closed. Waiters seem to be shorthanded at Fantasia and Sinfornia restaurant, there are a few instances when we met nice waiters but most of the time is not. Even simple requests such as water or getting a teaspoon is rejected right on the face with reply, "i'm not your table waiter, u ask your waiter". i told him my waiter is busy and not around, and all i need is just a teaspoon which i have already walked to the area where there are a few waiters standing ard with cupboards and drawers. None bothered to help! What customer serivice is this??? A kind waiter walked over, open the drawer and pass me a teapsoon where i was standing. Such a simple act of opening a drawing to pass me a clean teaspoon is so difficult? Even a cleaner in coffeshops or food centres in Singapore will help to to wipe and clean the table and not forcing you to sit where tables are dirty and refused to be cleaned! Simple questions such as what time does the casino opens? where is the salsa room? where is the room for leisure card / tile games all cannot be answered! If the top management doesnt bother about their customer service standards, how would the rest of all his waiters follow??? CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING IS A DEFINITE MUST FOR ALL STAFF ON BOARD for all aspects. We dont even think they deserve half of the USD60 service charge paid per pax. Phuket and Malacca ports - We have more than 20 hours to spend in phuket and less than 3 hours to spend in malacca. 3 hours is due to not enough tender boats and all passengers have to board the last tenderboat to leave malacca pier is 2 hours beofre the ship sets off. In a way, itinerary is not well planned. This cruise is not handicapped friendly or toddler/baby friendly. Final Mode of settlement / payment is so rigid and upsets many passengers on board. We have seen so many complaining because this ship doesnt not practise the norms as other cruies where final mode of payment can be by a choice of cash or credit card at the final point in time just before we disembark. On day 1, u have a choice of paying USD 150 as cash deposit or do self registration by credit card to prevent deactivation of your room card.. This mode cannot be changed, meaning i do self registration of the room card by credit card now. I cannot pay by cash for the final settlement of bills and vice versa. This pissed so many customers on board, bcos some have so much cash on hand while some want to buy things using credit card by cant do so as their mode of payment is by cash. When customers are unhappy, they wont purchase things from boutqiue shops or use the spa services, buy the expensive photos etc. Is all a chain. Even though this cruise is cheap, it depends what kind of holiday you want to enter into. I'm seeing other pasengers whom i do not know complaining abt different things everyday. Think twice. To end with, 3 of us are sick on the day when we leave the cruise. Stomach flu, fever, Read Less

I love cruising through the years and have started young too.Since I have not been onboard any Costa vessels and having read many negative feedback, thought I will give Costa Victoria a try. Oh my, it sure confirmed that it will be my 1st and last cruise with Costa Victoria and will not attempt to try any other vessels within the same family. Isn't cruising supposedly to be filled with fun and laughter with happy crew members working onboard? You will see non at all and even if you do, it is only a handful and really tiny palm size. Service with no smile. You won't even know that there is a Cruise Director onboard who does not appear often enough nor engaging with passengers. Except to say Ciao Ciao..Crew were simply not engaging enough from all levels. Passengers were treated like some invisible beings. Those performances were able to put one to slumber. Older Ship and not very well maintained. Foul smell detected daily in the cabin's shower area.. No idea why. I tried spraying my personal prefume. Shore excursions were charged on the high side. Tenther boat used were old and disembarkment in Melaka was horrifying. Daily buffet counter not varied enough, almost the same daily. Dining area service staff not extremely friendly or alert.. Never have I gone through such a dull cruising experience. I have to agree totally with previous negative points given.. Read Less

Great service, shows and food. We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the cruise and were made feel special by certain staff.. It is an older ship but has all the facilities for a short cruise. Staff member were very friendly and went out of there way to provide a little extra. There is a great choice of eating options with food served all day. The restaurant meals were big and very tasty and breakfast was great. A poolside hamburger or a midnight pizza ensured we were never hungry. In fact quite the opposite we were full all the time. The cabins are old but comfortable and keep very clean by on board staff. We visited Phuket and Penang and embarkment and disembarkment were hassle free. The tour were good and the tour guides were friendly an knowledgeable particularly in Penang Great value for money. We got a special deal on tickets paying about 500000 IDR per person per night for a deluxe balcony cabin. Exceptional value for what we received. Read Less

Cruise price was attractive, probably in collaboration with one of the larger travel agency in Hong Kong. However, the quality of the cruise was poor. Food: not much selection even the salad section, dressing unlike what you normally would have, very watery. Food quality is quite low. Pizza with not much topping or dressing. On first day of cruise, it was like a war zone, people have to line up a long time outside the restaurant. Cabin: small compared to other cruise lines. Services: Cabin - good, Restaurant: Very poor. Ship took more passengers than it can handle, thus, not enough tables for guests. Always have to wait a long time for table, waiter not helpful. Bus boy will not clean table and very rude. Too many bar people in the restaurant to try to sell drinks (with not much success) while there is not enough waiters and bus boy. Entertainment: OK (cater to Hong Kong Chinese with Sky Band singing Chinese songs) Embarkation: wait time and processing not as efficient as other cruise lines. Pier change at one port leading to use of shuttle,so excursion time cut down and more expensive transportation costs for guests. Public Rooms/Bar Area: Too small to handle large crowds. Excursions: You can do the same at much less especially if you can find people to carpool with. Read Less

If you are looking for upper class society experience, this ship is not for you. Costa Victoria is a very laid back, relax ship. Overall, this is a ship without big wow factor like rock climbing or ice skating rink. It is quite an old ship, but some hardware have been upgraded since the editor review was made. Costa card now opens the door as well, so you can just bring one card around the ship. The inside room is tiny but the beds are very comfortable. I fall asleep almost instantly every night. Bathroom is small but for Southeast Asian size it is good. The most fabulous thing about the cruise is the programme newspaper. It tells you literally everything. It have every info you need on board and even reminds you about things you might forget. Following the programs will make you sufficiently busy the whole day. Shows at night is nice but we all feel that the Michael Jackson show could be better... Maybe there's too much emphasis on that one show. The other shows are equally good, if not better than Michael Jackson show. Food are OK, be warned there are A Lot of bread and cakes. If you are a rice person, there is always a pot of rice at the end of buffet line at Bolero. Sit down restaurant have rice options as well. The indian food are nice. Guests on board are all really casual. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Read Less

Pros about Costa Victoria: 1) It has very nice noodle soup every night from 10pm - 2am as well as pool deck on sea days afternoon. 2) welcome drinks on the day of boarding and after returning ship from Penang. 3) Very nice live cooking of kaya toast and sunny up at buffet place breakfast 4) Excellent dance and singing shows for 2 nights 5) Indoor pool comes with in pool chairs which is really comfortable and the lockers are user friendly 6) Nicer pasta compared to Royal Caribbean 7) Late boarding time from 5pm onwards and late leaving of ship after 2pm meaning I can apply a day less annual leave. Also I prefer departure port at Harbour front compared to Marina Bay cruise terminal 8) It has 5 course meals instead of 3 course in Royal Caribbean. Course includes - appetizer, soup, salad, main course and dessert Cons about Costa Victoria: 1) Cabin fridge is locked at all times 2) TV was out of connection most of the time (not much of issue since I don't watch it) 3) Except for breakfast, the rest of room service is chargeable 4) Pool is closed from 10pm - 7am. Even after dinner time when sky is dark, the pool deck remains too dark for people interested in night dip 5) Limited choice of food at buffet place and quality not as good as Royal Caribbean's 6) Coffee and juice dispensers occasionally out of operation in buffet place 7) No coffee offered in main dining room which consists only 1 deck 8) No garnishes in soup in main dining room 9) buffet place chairs are of cheapo plastic chairs unlike the bamboo resort like chairs in Royal Caribbean 10) On the last day of cruise for disembarkment, the staffs would get you out of the rooms before 10am even though ship only reaches destination at 2pm. It is both annoying and embarrassing when you have to leave the room and not knowing where to rest with luggages around you instead of enjoying the cruise to the fullest. Seriously, do the crews really need so many hours to clean from 10am to 5pm before the next passengers board the ship? 11) Library cabinets are locked all the time 12) The crews use our existing cabin towels to make towel animals causing inconvenience to cabin occupants to use remaining towels for showering, etc. 13) The indoor pool is frequently closed for maintenance during its operating hours 14) The meat dishes such as steaks are poorly prepared and hard to bite. In conclusion, it is a nice first try on Costa Victoria but I will not be trying it Read Less

Hi all, I would really like to share with you guys my cruise experience with Costa Cruise (Victoria). I went on 3 Dec 2015 with my family, cruising to destinations such as Penang and Phuket. (Malaysia, Thailand) Service: I felt very welcomed when I first entered the ship. All the staffs, officers and captains were there to welcome us. The staffs then led us to our room (Deck 4,Nabucco). As for room service, the staffs were excellent and skillful in their job; they tidied our room when we were out for breakfast & dinner and spent the fastest time to complete their job to make sure that the room is neat and tidy before we come back. The guest service was very helpful for us, as my grandparent's room' air conditioning was faulty, I called the guest service to send men to repair, and immediately the workers were here to fix it as fast as possible. Staffs were polite towards everyone and helpful to guide us and help us throughout the cruise journey. Dining: We all know that the origin of Costa Cruises is Italy. So maybe you guys will be wondering: Would the cuisine be Italian? My answer is no, there are all varieties of cuisine such as Chinese and Malay. For my case, I am a 13 year old Chinese boy (Singaporean) and I was worrying about the food, will it be close to Chinese food? But when I got on board the ship, it was quite a shock to me that it wasn't all Italy food, but International cuisine. The bolero buffet (Deck 11, Rigoletto) serves rice, fruits, pasta for sure and other international delicacies. Tip 1: Try not to go to the A La Carte restaurant at Deck 5, Boheme (Fantasia & Sinfonia) because the dishes are all the same as the Buffet on Deck 11, so might as well go to Deck 11 with unlimited servings. Tip 2: If you do visit the Bolero Buffet on Deck 11, you would notice that there are 4 sections divided throughout the restaurant (International/Halal/Vegetarian). But there are actually more dishes avaliable at the end of deck 11. So don't miss the chance! Cabin: The cabin is spacious and neat. The room service is twice a day in order to keep the room tidy. The staffs who help you to make up your room will often use napkins/towels to form animals/plants. The air conditioning's temperature can be manually controlled. The overall rating for the cabin is excellent however, the design is a little weird. The window is located above the beds, so in order to view the scenery, you might have to climb up. *Note: The room card is in your room* Embarkation: Singapore I was thinking that it would take very long for us to board the ship because I have read other reviews from other users that we were given a pass/queue number and had to wait for a long period of time, just like my Star Cruise, Gemini experience last year. To my surprise, after siting at the waiting area of 10mins, we could check in and board the ship already. Tip 1: Try to board the ship as early as possible to prevent "human jam" Embarkation: Phuket The ship travelled 2 days to reach this destination. The ship will anchor at the "mini port" at the entrance of Phuket. Therefore, to get on shore, there will be boats to ferry us to Patong Beach. Patong Beach is a place for relaxation for everyone, they have many activities along the beach such as water skiing, rides on speed boat. For my family, we went with the shroe excursion that costa: Highlights of Phuket and Island Safari. Island Safari is similar to Singapore Zoo, there were performances by Monkeys and Elephant. We even had a chance to ride on elephant, it was an enjoyable moment riding the elephant with my Dad. We also went to the famous temple in Phuket, Wat Chalong. Afterwards, we visited the first cashew nut factory in Phuket. We bought many dried fruits/nuts there and we went back to the ship. Our tour guide, Pao, he's an awesome person, he took care of my grandparents throughout the journey, sharing his life experience on the bus, chatting with us went we were bored. *Note: There are more choice of excursions* Embarkation: Penang After leaving Phuket, we headed for Penang. This time, my Dad did not book any shore excursion because my grandparents were not feeling well. So it was a Sunday, my family was walking along the streets, and happened to see many people at the street market nearby the port. It is on every sunday and the shop owners offer a reasonable price for their merchandise. It was quite troublesome before we had to walk one big round around the port to get out of the port. I suggest everyone to download the offline map of Penang in Google Maps. *Note: There are shore excursion available too* Tip 1: There will be taxi drivers outside the port waiting for you. Embarkation: Singapore (End) The had to wait till 3pm to disembark the ship although the ship reached Singapore at 2pm. There will be a colour tag for you to tag on your luggage and the colour will decide the time of disembarking. At 10am, we were requested to leave our room already. This is something I don't really like, there's still 4 hours to reach Singapore, and yet we have to leave our room so early. I had nowhere to rest but under the hot sun at deck 11, beside the pool. Entertainment: There are lots of entertainment on the ship, like Casino, Mini Arcade, Festival theatre for performances, the main hall of the ship for party and Deck 11, Pools. The Casino is only available for certain ages however the arcade is for all. Performances were held in the Festival Theatre such as "Angiolino&Janette La Fracci in Surreal Circus Comedy" and "Michael Jackson Tribute Show". The parties like "The Carnival of Venice Party" and many more are held at Deck 5. There are 4 pools of jacuzzi and 2 rather deep swimming pools. **Note: THE WATER OF THE SWIMMING POOLS IS SALTY** In a nut shell, I feel that Costa Victoria is worth the money and very suitable for family. There will be many activities for you to participate on board and board games/ balls (e.g. Basketball)/rackets (Table Tennis) can be rented by deposit. ***PLEASE DO NOTE THAT ALL MONEY SHOULD BE PAID IN US CURRENCY*** Tip: Register your credit card upon boarding the ship because at the end if the journey, you will be paying a service charge of US$48, because if you don't register your credit card, on the last day, you will have to pay US$48 and requested to queue up. I hope you like my review of Costa Victoria. Do ask me anything regarding the ship and I will try to answer it. Do share your experience with me! Read Less

This is the first time travel in a cruise, I really enjoy these days! When I get on the cruise, every staffs are very nice with smile and direct us to the cabin clearly. I went there with my boyfriend. Although the cabin is not very big, it is clean and comfortable like a tiny hotel. We need to gather in the hall first to learn basic survival knowledge. Then we went to have our buffet dinner. It is convenience that we only bring our room card to record all our expenses. The buffet did not have much choice but taste good. We went to the deck after dinner. The wind was tender and full of stars on the sky. How a romantic night for us! It is quite difficult to see this beautiful sky in urban city now. If we didn’t get on the boat, we will miss it! The next day we enjoy breakfast in room, it came fast in warm temperature, nice! Then we swam in pool with sunshine, so relaxing! I also had a spa, it was relaxed. The staffs were considerate of my body with soft message and my boyfriend went to gym, he told me the fitness center was big. They played music inside and serve with towel, cool water to all guests. We met at the function hall, there was a show tonight, the MC was funny drove everyone being crazy and happy. The disco and casino opened until late night, we have so much fun inside! We met a young couple as well. They have come twice already and also agreed the service of Costa was good, very suitable for them to spend their holiday here. When we arrived on Malaysia, we took few hours to land on the beach. Sunset on beach was stunning! We ate something before back to cruise if we can stay longer, that’s must be prefect! It is really an enjoyable trip for us to escape from the busy city. The staff’s services are good and won’t feel boring or dull during the trip. Costa brings me a memorable cruise travel. I will come back when I feel tired again. Read Less

Singapore - Malacca - Penang This is the 3rd cruise line my family n I took. Have taken star cruises, royal Caribbean before so wanted to try out costa this time round. Bad choice, bad mistake! Worst cruise experience or rather only 1 word to describe it - chaotic ! Boarding time was 4pm, upon reaching at 3.30pm need to queue to get a "Q card" stating the time of check in. We were given no 8 n was told our check in time will be 6pm ? Staffs were stern n fierce. Upon boarding the ship , we were given costa card which act as a room key n charge card on board. Again staffs were not very friendly nor helpful. Make me seem not very welcome , very different from the other 2 cruise lines. We wonder off by ourselves to find our rooms. We had 3 balcony rooms with 2 even room nos and 1 odd no - pls take note odd n even nos rooms are on 2 different sides of the ship! My verdict 1) rooms - balcony Relatively small, cleanliness was still ok. The type of service u get in terms of the cabin really depends on your luck as in your cabin steward. We had 3 diff rooms, 3 diff cabin stewards, service given were diff. 2) staff attitude HORRIBLE - makes me wondered if this was a FOC cruise? If not why were the staff so unfriendly n rude ? Staffs are rare , Smiles were rare, really rare ! 3) Food - super pathetic food especially the level 11 buffet line. No juice provided at all, only coffee n tea n plain water w very weird taste. The ala carte restaurant food was ok but service was not up to standard , the staffs do not mingle w guest, hav the feeling of "pls finish your food n go" kind of attitude. 4) bar drinks Non standardized drinks. Same cocktail order at different bars taste different and looks different. To summarize , the food and the staffs attitude are the 2 major big problems in costa Victoria ! If passengers don't feel welcome and not provided with satisfactory food then I don't see any reason to be on board ! It's absolutely not value for money ! Read Less

Finally after some saving up I was finally able to take my mother on a cruise I promised her a whole year ago. We boarded the Costa Victoria in August and I have never seen my mom being so satisfied, she enjoyed the trip a lot. The price of the Costa Victoria cruise was also much cheaper than I expected. So the trip started with us taking a flight to Shanghai for embarking and of course we took advantage of this side trip and did some sightseeing around Shanghai for 2 days. The route that we chose was a cruise from Shanghai to South Korea, which could not have been more perfect for us as my mom have always enjoyed historical novels and visiting heritage museums and I could bring her to all those places so effortlessly. I also realized that it is so convenient if you have a credit card to pay for stuffs on the cruise so you do not need to bring a lot of cash. But even if you do not own a credit card, you could just use the Costa Card they give out to pay everything on cruise then pay at the end of the journey at the counter. So at the first day of the cruise, when we were waiting to embark, Costa staffs came around with a round of drinks for us while we wait. That’s so heartwarming! It is quite embarrassing but I have to admit that I don’t have the strongest sense of direction, probably inherited that from my mom; we got lost on the way to our cabin. Fortunately for us a staff was there to guide us to the door of our cabin. Thank you Nicola! At the end of the trip, I found out Nicola is the best staff on Costa Victoria(Clap) After we settled down, it was almost 2pm and that was when we realized that we have not had any breakfast that morning and we can hear our stomachs rumbling. We immediately got to our feet and decided to go the restaurant on Deck 11 first. There was not a huge variety of food to choose from, but the dessert was an amazing finishing touch to our breakfast/lunch! We went to other restaurants in the remaining days and we found a burger joint which serves excellent burgers!! In terms of on-board entertainment, there were mini performances by singers on Deck 5-7. My mom was a quiet and self-contained woman so we went to library to pick up some books instead. On a few mornings my mom would just lay by the pool side while I swim. Be sure to take with you a cardigan or a sweater when you were on the deck though, it could get quite chilly when you step out onto the deck at night. At night, my mom and I went to a paid-restaurant to have our dinner. All of a sudden, the music started and the staffs were dancing to it. We were totally surprised and were invited to join the staffs. We were a bit too shy to dance in public so we passed but the children there were not. We were amazed and impressed by the Italian culture. We were also surprised when we went back to our cabin on the 2nd night. There were a couple of super cute elephant dolls on our beds! How sweet Costa is! Really a big thank you and we appreciated for Costa staffs to make our days on cruise! I could still remember how cheerful and patient they were when they taught us the way, because both of us have no sense of direction. Read Less

Costa's cruise is everything better than the last previous cruise that I had board on. I wasn't keen on the trip due to work reasons, but I am happy that I had been there to experience it all. After left our cabin, we head immediately to the information counter. Its good to have 'Today' newsletter with you. The Today newsletter tells you a lot of things like what to do on that day, when will the ship reaches a certain port and what do you need for the this and that, what kind of programs are there, when and where are you meals and more. The information counter can be overcrowded because there are the most, 3 staff (usually 2) and there are many passengers to attend to. We headed to the tour office after getting information on where to book our trips. Its advisable to book your trip fast before its out of slots. However, if you have not book any trips. You don't have to worry. Many private tour guides will be near the ports to ask if you would like to have a tour. All you need if the Costa card to check in and out of the ship, money, the courage to get of the ship, the courage to go around with someone you think you could trust and whatever you need to bring. There is a drill to attend at about 4pm on the first day, please bring along your drill card which will be issue to you when you receive your Costa card. Also, go to your cabin and get your life jackets. Get it all done on the first day, and you will never be asked to attend on the second day or attend any presentation after that. Be cooperative, thats all they asked for, its for your safety. Sometimes you could feel the ship moves and it might cause migraines. I get used to it after day 1, but I still feel rocky after disembarkation. It is best to keep an empty water bottle with you, because they don't provide water. They would charge USD$2.75 for 1 litre of water. Of course, you could get water when you are at the buffet area. There are some people who stood there for a long time to refill their hard to refill bottles. (My suggestion is that you could get glasses of water and refill them at your table, do not use long or tall bottles, because the water dispenser is only suitable for glasses and short bottles) If you have not or decided not to bring bottles, you could make use the buffet area during breakfast, lunch, tea breaks and dinners to get water, tea, coffee, milk and in the morning you could get pineapple, grapefruit and sometimes orange juices. Soft drinks are at USD$2.70 per can. Whats good about the ship is that it gives you the chance to make friends with people, you will be asked to share table with people from other cabins in the restaurant. You might think that its not very nice, or you could be too shy to talk or doesn't want any interaction. When everyone is happy, people tend to not mind what you say and you could even share which trip you had been to and whats worth it and whats not. Due to limited seats and tables in the buffet area, (the buffet area is split into two, one on the right and one on the left) you have to find tables to share with someone sometimes. Don't worry about 'do you want to interact' or not, if you choose to keep quiet, no one would talk to you. I say, don't bother about having breakfast in the cabin, they charge you and you don't get to see the beautiful sunrise and you feel that you are missing out on all the action in the buffet area. When the ship drives into a storm, the external buffet area could be in chaos for while and I could still see a family of four munching down while everyone is hiding from the rain. Omelette stations are available in the morning and pasta stations are available during lunch. If you don't like the food served in the restaurant (they will issue you a card, which is found in your cabin for the time of your dinner (either 5.45pm or 8.00pm), where is it and your table number. Please remember and attend dinner at the same time and place everyday.) you could always go for a later dinner at 8pm-9pm. If you go to the wrong restaurant, they will ask you to go to the restaurant that you had been assign to. If you had missed it, don't worry, go to pizzaria and they will serve you pizza according to daily special menu (four pizzas to choose from everyday) and noodles (look like instant noodles, and you could choose to go with beef, pork, chicken, seafood and vegetables), pizzaria serves pizzas (you eat whatever they serve at the counter) only during the day. I love the curries in the Halal section. The breakfast are more or less the same everyday and the bread at sandwich bar at night can be quite hard to digest. The buffet areas are nicer since you could enjoy the sea and sky view. I saw dolphins on my last afternoon on board. The second last dinner on board was served with lobster and the last lunch has crab claws on the buffet menu. Yes!! Even if you do not wish to go offshore, there are things to do on the ship. I must say that even if the ship is on high sea, its not as boring as another cruise ship that I had been. They have cooking demonstrations, live music, performance after dinner (two performances for two shifts of dinner), art and craft sessions, dance lessons, ice craving and many more. If you are so bored, you can always watch tv, take a nap or look at the sea. This is the only chance I could enjoy live music without having to be force to have alcohol or breathe in cigarette smoke. (Of course, you could order drinks (alcoholic or non alcoholic) when you are watching any performance.) I watch live music almost everyday after my father asked if I want to watch people dancing. You can suntan, they have clean towels and many beach chairs for your to lie on. You could swim or enjoy Jacuzzi. This trip is special because children boards on free. There is a children club, known as Squok Club, which takes care of your kids while you were away on excursions. What I heard is that some kids thinks that its like schooling, some kids thinks that its fun when they make lots of friends. The staff there will play with kids and take care of their meals. We didn't use that, but we had seen how they do it and the children are in good hands. Internet registration is USD$3, every hour you use the internet is USD$10 and every 3 hours you spend online is charged at USD$24. If you have a Costa card, they will link it to your credit card and charge accordingly. If you don't have a credit card, please make payment using USD by the second day. Laundry services are affordable. Say, you want to wash a T-shirt, its about USD$3. They will deliver the clothes to your cabin by the next day. Remember to check your payment by the last day, they might have to return you your change or you have to pay up. There are many halls and places to perform and many places to eat on board, but there is only one place to shop. The shops were selling international brands of watches, perfumes and bags. Some expensive liquor or snacks are available too. You could buy Costa design clothes. Sometimes, they have promotions to clear stocks, so look out for that. Shops would only open certain times of the day, they usually will open after you had finished your meals. Nearby those shops, you could find Spas and Salons. Good thing is, no one pesters you to buy anything. Phew! There is a disco room, a shop to buy your photos (taken when you board the ship, captain's night and second last night with an acting captain) and cameras. Many bars available. Since there are so many places to eat and find entertainment, its good to take your time to walk around and explore the ship. Otherwise, you will be caught not knowing where to go when you wanted to attend certain events. You could get extra copies of Today at the information counter, they are presented in English, French, Italian, Japanese, Greek, Chinese and etc. Stay alert on those things, you wouldn't want to miss anything you like to attend or are important. There are plenty of lifts, not plenty on toilets. Since this is a family based cruise ship, the Casinos are design in a way that its not so much on winning big. Some people feel that the Casinos there are no fun on board, but I feel thats very healthy. Parents are warned not to bring those under 18 to the Casinos. I had seen some parents staring at the gambling tables with babies in arms or holding their children hands were asked to leave the venue. Please attend the presentation on the disembarkation. It is important to know what to do to disembark smoothly. They will present their staff to thank you and tell you a little about their work. Its interesting. You don't have to tag your hand baggage when to prepare yourselves for disembarkation. You only have to know which color group you belong to and wait for your color to be called out by the PA system. You can wait any common areas while waiting for disembarkation. Taxi will be difficult to get, so try to board on a bus and go somewhere else to get a taxi if you like. We took a bus and train home. We enjoy our trip very much! Thank you! We will board on the ship again and we will recommend to those who know! Staff are friendly and polite. Read Less

We receive a promotion package from a road show and I must say, its really worth it! Our embankment was simple, smooth and fast. When we enter the ship, we have to take a photo to identify ourselves. Next, we have to take a lift to our cabins. There is a map of the ship and the numbers that would help you to know where your cabins are. Food are already served when you board the ship. There was an announcement to tell you that you are encouraged to participate in the emergency drill. Go to your cabin and get your life jackets and give your drill card to the staff when you reach your designated area to disembarkation for emergencies. Of course, there are second drills which you could attend. I suggest that all passengers should attend such important and life saving activities, its for your safety and its only for a while. Take your time to know your environment. You don't want to be lost when you are going to watch a performance, to have a meal, go to the bathroom or meet someone. A copy of 'Today' will be given to you at the mailbox of your cabin. The newsletter are represented in several different languages like English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, Greek and more. If you need extra copies, you could get it from the information counter. The information can be busy with confused passengers and limited staff. So, its good that you have your 'Today' with you, read as much as you can and ask only if no such information is on the newsletter. We head straight to the Tour office as early as we could to book tours, you don't have to pay for it yet, you will pay via your Costa card (you got to link to your credit card, or pay in USD the next day. Its good to know where and when to pay for it for your convenience. Read 'Today' to get information. Pay a little extra, and you will get your deposit back. Pay less, and you will have to pay extra on the last day. Remember to settle your bills on the last day if you are paying by cash). If you have not book any tour, fear not. There are private tour guides and drivers around the port areas where you can hire. There are activities such as art and crafts (making paper flowers, making jewelries and more), cooking demonstrations, dance lessons and performance after dinner for your entertainment. They are all listed on the newsletter. TV programs are also quite new. I remember that we watched a live telecast of the Golden Horse awards on our first day. When the ship is on high seas, there could be movies (like Johnny English and more) repeated throughout the day. Channels in English, French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese and more and available. There are two performances after dinner, one of each shift (there are two shifts, 5.45pm and 8.00pm). The performance at night includes magic shows, singing and dancing shows, acrobatics and etc. I love the live music performance after that. Ever since my father asked if I would like to watch people dancing randomly on board, I have been following the live band's performance ever since. Its the only time where I could enjoy live music without breathing in smoke. You could order drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) in all theaters during performances. As the cruise ship focus on family fun, the Casino was meant to make winning hard and therefore there wasn't many people gambling at the gambling table. Children below 18 were asked to leave the casino. There is also a disco hall, which are more active at night, they open it in the morning for art and craft and other activities. Kids can entertain and be taken care of by the staff at Squok club. I have not use that service, but I could see how children enjoy themselves when they were brought to the buffet area to have their lunch. I heard from one parent that her son doesn't like it because it feels like going back to school. Another parent told me that her son made a lot of friends there. You can leave your kids there and tour the ports of call without having to worry about them or having the hassle for bringing them along. I would recommend you to bring an empty bottle with you for water. Costa do not provide bottled water or water in any form as you please (except for buffet area). You can refill water when you are in the buffet area. They charge 1 liter of mineral water at USD$2.75 per bottle and USD$2.70 for canned soft drinks. You could ask for a kettle if you don't find one in your cabin, boil some water in your cabin so that you have water to drink. Or else, you can always drink tea, coffee, tea and juices in the buffet area. Don't worry about bringing water to your trip. If you are going via a Costa planned trip, they will give you water. If you are going with a private tour guide, tell them to stop by somewhere you could get bottled drinks. You can't bring food and drinks away and to the ship (don't worry about being hungry or bringing food off the ship, because most likely you don't feel hungry after having buffets for a few days.), but you could empty bottles and bring them to the ship to store water. There are a few areas where you could have your breakfast. Don't bother about having breakfast in cabin, there are so many food you can eat at the buffet area. There are omelette stations during breakfast and pasta stations during lunch. If you would like to have pizza, you could go to pizzera. In Pizzeria, they will serve desserts and whatever pizza they bake. At night, it serves instant noodles (soup are not instant noodle base) with either beef, chicken, pork, seafood or vegetables (choose one) and four pizzas of the say to choose from. There are two restaurants, you will know where your dinner is served when you enter your cabin by the first day, you should see a card on your writing desk. On the card, it will show your table number, the time for dinner and which restaurant is it. Dinner is usually Western, with appetizer, soup, pasta, main course and dessert. Get ice cream for desserts here, because you don't get ice cream when you are in the buffet area. If you had missed all the meals and buffets, a sandwich bar is served from 1am to 6am, usually buns (sliced into halves with egg fillings) than white breads, salads, tea and coffee are served. Buns are pretty hard, those with gastric problems should reduce your intake or stay away from it, get salads instead. There is a salon, a spa, several shops selling items from international brands, and one shop selling snacks. Sometimes, there are mini fairs to sell items on promotion. Shops don't open throughout the day. Usually, they will open after you had your meals. We observed that there are many staff who are doing more than one job. On our last day, we were told that they have to work on 8 months contact without breaks, receiving USD$800 per month. I say, its hard work on those staff. We appreciate it. Staff are friendly and polite. They made an effort to make you happy and we could remember some staff and on their cruise ship, I didn't have any impression at all. Before your disembarkation, please attend a presentation about that and know what to do. You will be given a colored baggage tag and remember that color, they will call out your color for disembarkation. You don't have to tag to your bag, just remember your color. If you want to sit around and wait, you could wait in any common areas. Those with baggage (not hand carried) have to leave their baggage outside their cabin by 1am on night before your last day. I had seen people who left their baggage after 1am and I have no idea what happened to them. Remember to collect your passports, settle your bills before you leave the ship! Read Less

We sailed from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Hong Kong. We travelled with 4 adults and 1 child. Our cruise was 3 sailings in 1 for us so three times people got off and on. I am one that looked at the reviews and thought oh it cannot be that bad. Many issues that have been reported are now fixed. Embarking in Singapore, excursions, Visas, passports and shuttles. All justified and not a problem. The bad review is due to numerous things that took place. Day 1. We were awakened at 3:30am the first night as something fell down from the upper bunk from my daughter's bed. We turned on lights to hand her back her bear when I looked over to my pillow I noticed a bug round and flat. I flicked it off the bed thinking nothing off it as I was tired and then I realized OMG that's a bed bug. I threw back the duvet to find 6 more in plain sight. I got dressed and ran down to reception. They had a manager come confirm the issue and supplied us a new cabin and asked that we follow up in the morning about new cabin. So at 4am we moved our belongings without assistance and moving our young child from bed to a cabin down the hall. The manager on duty insisted we see the dr. on board and when she told me the expense I stated we had to bites and we would be fine as it would have been over $400 for this first. It took us nearly 1 hour to get moved and no person was in sight. Day 2. We woke up had breakfast and then went to reception to find out what was to happen next. Might I add that there is usually 1 person at this desk at all times and minimum 30 min wait on any occasion due to translation issues. At this time we were told our original cabin was being fumigated and the temporary cabin was vacant the rest of cruise and awaiting manager approval to move permanently. The new room toilet broke every time we used it and cabin smelt of sewage. The maintenance came 3 times that day to fix it and in the end we ended up using the toilet in old cabin as it was not working. The AC is another issue it did not work at all. Something about a clogged vent and while in a climate of 90 degrees plus left us no other option but to sleep nearly unclothed. So the conditions of the temp cabin were just as bad as old. Day 3. This day we went on our excursion to return to room with a note to see reception. Another 45 minutes waiting in line and 30 minutes to reach a resolution. They were moving us back to original cabin due to it being ALL CLEAR. I through a fit and the reception didn't even blink an eye. She said they sold the cabin we are in for new leg of trip and stated the bugs were gone and won't come back. So instead of sit down dinner we placed our daughter in kids club and moved yet again. Since they wanted us moved before stewards came on shift. Oh I forgot that it was my holiday for a second not to put anyone else out. Seriously. So we moved back to the original cabin. Day 4. This day our Costa cards froze due to being swapped around so much so no drinks for us today. Took another 45 minutes in line to sort that out. We had been in contact with our agent in the states and that evening we received a fruit bowl for all our troubles. I guess an apple, orange and mango will fix it right. Day 5. Came back from day in Singapore to have our steward tell us other rooms around us had bed bugs too now. 6 in total on the floor we were on. After numerous fumigations they were not dying. Well great I thought. So the evening comes and after dinner we settle in for the night. Watching movies in bed on the IPad until I felt something on my leg and I jumped out. Sure enough they were back and this time 3 fold. Steward was on duty and I called him in right away to look at them. He radioed manager on duty and I went down to reception. This time I was greeted by a manager MariaLuisa. She was genuine and concerned about everything. She ordered that our clothes be washed and our bags be fumigated. We were being upgraded from inside to outside cabin far away from our original cabin. She had 3 stewards assisting in moving our things and called once we moved to ensure we settled in. Everything was fine in cabin except the smoke smell that was so bad. This evening they offered to pay for the dr. visit if required. Day 6. We had a very early morning excursion and decided since we upgraded to premium we should order in breakfast. Well they showed up 30 minutes after time they were intended to and then demanded we pay for a service we already paid for. Stated our cabin was not listed on premium and that to hand over $21 for a late and cold breakfast. I asked her kindly to leave our cabin and speak with management or steward about breakfast as we were not having it. As we run down stairs with moments to spare as out excursions was literally leaving the ship my husband got us a coffee and croissant each. On arrival we find the tenants next to us are smoking in there room that is connected to ours and the smoke was coming through the cracks in the door. This was fixed by using tape around the door and spraying our room down with a perfume of some sort. 45 more minutes in line at customer service. Our steward provided us with fruit and prosecco for our troubles with breakfast as he was unaware either about premium. Day 7. Costa Cards frozen again and more time wasted fixing something that we should not have been. This day also entailed us calling our US bank to verify in front of manager that it was not a prepay debit we were using for cruise purchases. Day 8-12 were a combination of lost excursion tickets due to them swapping us numerous times. The desk had them for nearly 6 days before telling us our Vietnam tickets were placed in the temp cabin not occupied by someone else. This was done wrong even after we told excursion desk we moved a 3rd time. Excursion for Hong Kong was cancelled after booking 2 months in advance. They were charging service charge for my child even though their site specifically stated no service for under 14. A heated 9pm argument with desk about that left me bitter and upset with Costa even more. You take what's not yours and I have stayed in hostels cleaner than that of our cabin. They froze up our friends cards too from same bank and there room became infested with bed bugs during their linen change. Day 13. Last night on cruise and we were pulled in by management about our fees. We were told our agent had been on contact with the ship and we did not have to pay gratuities in the end due to all the trouble we incurred. So the people that helped us in room, restaurant and spa won't get a fee that is made for them due to issues that customer service caused. Does not seem fair at all in my opinion and we signed the paper we would pay them on our own and we did. In the end our cruise itinerary was amazing. My daughter loved the kids club apart from the fact that while we sailed over New Year's they were due to have a party for them and cancelled it due to lack of participation. In fact it was due to crew wanting to party it up as I spoke with other parents who looked forward to the event. Oh and as we went to bed early due to closing the kids club early we were awoken at 11:45pm by a Italian screaming over intercom counting down till midnight. Not just once but numerous times and over whole PA system. By the end of the cruise 9 rooms became infested and it's rather sad that sanitation is not better. They ruined a large percentage of clothes they washed as well as they were combined with what looked to be a dark blue towel in which ever thing turned blue. So for the last week I wore items that were discolored and I disappointed as the items were still new just for our first cruise. I wasted my time with my family waiting in lines for things that should not be an issue. I spent no kidding upwards of 7 hours dealing with the customer service staff to resolve issue after issue. The pool was closed on nearly both sea days and not a lot was offered on board to do during this time. So a lot of dead time was spent in the cabin. Read Less
