Ship is very beautiful and well laid out - enjoyed the central elevators. Service staff was exceptional - excluding the Excursion Desk (unless). Very disappointed in the food served - the Italian influence was missing - I have traveled in Europe and did not recognize this reported influence - a staff person reported that being a repositioning cruise the quality was diminished. This was Basic Transportation - pure and simple. During our 19 days we got sick on day 5 and remained sick for the next 4 weeks. Everyone on the ship had or have had this virus. Other than Purel stations placed in the buffet area little or precautionary measures were visible. I did email to Costa Customer Service about my experience - got a letter back that in summary said they would use the feedback for future travelers and 'To Bad - come back again sometime' - Never again Read Less

I agree with nearly all the comments made in the reviews regarding the 1st leg. We felt like 2nd class citizens. Most staff were under trained but about half were smiling and friendly. Only watchable TV in English was News and documentaries on China's CGTN network. Entertainment was quite poor with the best act being a comedy magician on the night before disembarkation. No milk or fridge in our cabin. We could only use our balcony when at sea since there was always cleaning, painting & maintenance being done while in port and the balconies on deck 2 were used as a through way for staff so the extra cost for the balcony was not good value. Why does a brand new ship need painting? Mandatory €10 per person per day (including disembarkation day) for "Service Charge" plus another service charge on any drinks and food purchased. Mixing cultures and too many languages really doesn't work for me. Every announcement was repeated in about 5 languages and the behaviour of some passengers in the buffet restaurant beggars belief with pushing and piling plates to overflowing with one type of food and thus quickly depleting amount left for other people. We've sailed with a fair number of cruise lines and therefore we have something to judge Costa against. One gets the impression that Costa's aim was to relieve passengers of as much money as possible. This was the worst cruise we have been on and no way will be sail with Costa again. Read Less

We chose this cruise to escape the late winter early spring weather and on price and the ships itinerary. The beginning, after being picked up at our Venice hotel we were dropped at Venice airport to wait around for two hours without any information before being herded on to a fleet of buses for a 90 minute journey to Trieste. This is where the confused disorderly nightmare got worse we where dumped with thousands of other passengers in a massive car park with no queuing system in place no queue marshals no Costa staff to organize fair queuing, it just became a very unpleasant fight to retain a place in the queue with many people just pushing in. It took us three and a half hours of queuing to check in without being offered a drink or toilets being available, we were lucky that it was not raining nor hot and sunny, otherwise the experience could have been much worse. When we did manage to board the ship the chaos continued, we were instructed to go to our muster stations at least 4 times only for the exercise to be repeatedly cancelled, eventually we tried to attend the evacuation procedure, however the stair wells were blocked with other passengers on each occasion and this made it impossible for many passengers to get to the correct muster stations. like many other passengers we missed the emergency drill completely. The Cabin, ours was internal with a big comfortable bed otherwise the cabin was small and lacked storage, one small wardrobe with 8 coat hangers , the shower was good plenty of hot water. Dining, Poor quality food mainly cold, plenty of Queuing. Entertainment, Second rate. Shore Excursions, poor and a total rip off. Service, our cabin steward was excellent (Berco), some of the bar staff were very good. Read Less

We were looking for an alternative to cross the Atlantic other than by plane to avoid the jetlag. As this sailing fit in our time schedule we booked a cruise on Costa Deliziosa leaving Ft. Lauderdale March 03. -To begin with the ship: Costa Deliziosa is an eldery lady in need of a thorough make-over. The entire interior decor and design was retro. - Our cabin, which was a so-called Samsara balcony cabin mid forward looked tired and worn with stains on the old carpet and a shower curtain not properly fastened. Worse, the bedding reeked, and the linens were worn and had holes in them. The blankets were flimsy and not warm enough. - The food at the restaurant was mostly overcooked or too salty and poorly presented. So after a week we simply changed to buffet style for more selection but still had issues with the quality of the food, During the entire cruise the fruit consisted of old and beyond shelf-life plums, nectarines and oranges or fruit salad with stale melons. - We had booked a shore excursion to the island of Gordo in the Dom.Rep. which turned out to be quite hazardous due to very slippery rocks and rickety steps inside and through the caves. In Costa's tour description these hazards were not mentioned. - A week into the cruise we and a large number of other passengers contracted a severe bronchitis which made treatment at the ship hospital necessary. Yet, the ship management undertook no extra measures to contain the spreading of the disease or making sure that every passenger used the disinfectant displayed in public areas and restaurants. We saw people grabbing food at the buffet with their fingers! - Disembarking procedures in Venice were chaotic. There was no proper information and people were kept in large groups in different locations for hours to wait. So we finally took things in our hands and left the ship so as not to miss our connecting train. In comparison to other cruises we did with other cruise lines like MeinSchiff, Holland America and Princess this was the worst experience ever. Needless to say we wrote a detailed letter of complaint to Costa Cruises. And also needless to say their answer was non-committal as expected. Read Less

This was the worst cruise we have been on! 4hrs to board ship! no tea or coffee in dining room! compulsory gratuities 10euro pp per night!pay for shuttles to town! Never been compulsory on other cruises. No sweet wine with lunch/tea included in package. After 5days English Breakfast Teabags were like gold couldn't find them anywhere. The pushing, shoving yelling by the Italians was unbearable. Music on the back pool area was the same everyday with only 4 English songs played. Our tea seating was 8.45 with 3 lovely couples on our table served by wonderful waiters. The bistro areas were a challenge with people pushing in but the food was ok. The tour organisation was a shambles both waiting to leave and getting back with sometimes 5 buses arriving at the same time to board the ship. Didn't get on till after sailing time. One of our tours has a couple with mobility problems, we had to cut short our walking experience due to their incapability to keep up. They should not have been allowed to do the tour as it was all walking and we believe this person was air lifted for heart problems 4 days prior. Spent unbelievable amount of time in queues at the service desk, given wrong information, wrong name on replacement cabin card couldn't get off ship had to go back and replace it. Had to change cabins for re-positioning cruise, first room was deck above the dance floor absolute hell! music, yelling till 2pm. next room took 3 replacement cards for cabin card to work-had to go to service desk for each card.Cabin staff fantastic. Service desk is position near the piano area which made it almost impossible to hear and communicate with almost non English speaking staff. Our shore experiences made up for the ship experience. We knew what we were getting into, but never ever thought it would be as bad as it wo as. Food was never served hot or warm or body temperature, it was cold as a dead fish. Eggs, if you call the that, slimy kind of yellow. bacon burned and really greasy. Hamburgers, well below body temperature. If you like bones with your salmon, you have chosen the right ship. If you like Prime Rib Sant cut you have picked the right ship. Entertainment, well stay hoe home and watch TV, it was terrible. Shore Excursions, OMG, no whispers, No Knowledge, horrible times in ports. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME, TRY IT. Your money is wasted. Good Luck if you like smokers on balcony. cough cough. I was so sick of Dance Band Music I could puke. How about some good music to listen to. No music except some Jazz and who knows what on the ship. No music at all in many places during the evening. These cruises are sure as could be totally European. Go with Celebrity or Royal if you want a good cruse. We were just trying to escape the cold of March in the US. They say you get what you pay for, but even at the great price they were offering, you got a lot LESS that what you paid for on this cruise. As an adult I have been on more than 100 cruises and as a teenager my father was a cruise ship captain. This cruise was by far the bottom of the barrel. The crew is so over worked, that there is no way they can provide good service. The biggest thing the ship needs to do is get less senior officers and more workers. There are more than enough officers standing around doing nothing while there was a shortage of people to do the work They even charge for water. On every other ship we have been on, you could always go some where to get water, tea or coffee at no charge. If you want water at dinner, no problem either pay per glass or purchase a water package. The food in the dinning rooms and buffet was so bad that it forced you go to the for pay dinning rooms. The terms planning, organization, and logic have totally evaded this ship. Our tours (that we did not book with the ship) were great and we plan to visit many of the ports again on another cruise line. In the disembarkation talk the crew speaker spent over 10 minutes telling us why we should give them 10s on the survey because the problems were not the fault of the crew. In short, stay away from the Victoria and Costa in general. Read Less

First of all be aware: when they want you to buy the cruise the small words hidings behind the lines. did you know any person need to pay 10 euros plus to the privce? 70 euros more! i didn't see it because it is written in small latters so you won't know untiil the demand it on board. nobody will tell you, just because you signd already and now you will need to pay. After i already gave tips to any batrhender!! the price is include 15% more for service aotumaticolly!! even if you take something from the minibar they will take 15% service charge!! for what?!? so 15% more of service, plus 10 euros per day to person, in my case 2 people, (170-190 euros more just for service!!!). i even took in 5 euros package for social networks internet one day they took me 3 euros more for signing and i did it alone! in ther internet! no service! didn't i paid enough on the cruise already?? the other thing all day long same food in breakfast and dinner. If you are not Italian don't go! because almost al the activities and shows in italian!! if i would know everything of it in the beggining i will not even come to the cruise! Read Less

After deciding on a five day stay in Rome, we chose Costa Deliziosa due to the return route, and time of year. The boarding process was routine, however, the rest of the trip went down hill from there. For the lifeboat drill, we were told to report to three different locations by three different staff members. After walking around the ship, looking for the right place, we missed almost the entire life boat drill. A female staffer said don't worry about it. The only acceptable part of this cruise was the cabin and steward. He was very accommodating and friendly. The food was beyond terrible, with a main stay of pork. The only meal that was acceptable was breakfast. Limited coffee and tea and payment required for any extras. The food lacked quality, taste, and any form of seasoning. Limited beverages during dinner hours. Most of the shows were terrible, mostly catered to the European passengers, who many were rude and pushy. The ports were mostly mediocre at best, and it appeared that Costa was trying to save money in every manner possible. Anyone desiring to take this cruise ship needs a good session with a psychiatrist. We have taken two other Costa cruises originating in the USA which were acceptable, prior to this one. If there were any ratings listed below one, most of the categories would be listed in the "This must be a joke or a prank" section. We could not wait to get off of the cruise ship. A total waste of time and money. Read Less

Pre-cruise started off to a weird start - no prompting from Costa to fill out anything for the cruise, no communications at all. Found their web site to be very cumbersome and non-informative. We experienced Quick embarking (showed up just prior to leaving port), no room card give and no indication of where and when we would receive this. Once on the ship we headed to our rooms and there was the room unlocked and the card on the bed. We toured a little and then went to the buffet for supper as we had toured all day and were tired. To our surprise there was NO buffet, a few slices of dry pizza and wilted salad. We quickly changed and off we when to find our dining room - we had had no communication as to which one we were in or our dining time. Found a bar steward who directed us - got to the dining room, no one to seat you - just pointed in the general direction and left to find your table on your own. Ordered wine, charged the wrong price +$10 - had a great head waiter "Rex" and his NEW helper that was his first day and had obviously NEVER worked in any form of dining service! There were only 3 of us at our table for 8 that night and it took 2.5 hours to get our wine, water, main and dessert. The wine and water took 50 minutes. The helper didn't get any better over the duration of the cruise and had to be directed on every little task throughout the entire 20 days. The Food overall has no taste and meat very tough and usually over cooked. Menu undesirable, most nights unable to pick as nothing sounds appealing. Never vegetables served with main course. Breakfast buffet - terrible, mounds of sweets but fruit is almost nonexistent. Only time you could get coffee with a meal with out being charged extra for it was during breakfast out of the large carafes. Lunch buffets are disappointing, with tasteless food and lots if times food is cold and even still frozen. never changed generally offered the same every day. Costa is All about the extra $, no education about the ports to be visited, only about the offers through ship. Free transportation to town is offered 300m from ship but all that is told is transportation is $14. Ship has very poor cleaning standards, never in 20 days did I witness a table being cleaned and sanitized between guests or even between meals. Cleaning on the deck the same low standard, observed workers wiping and drying but in a 30, minute period never cleaning the cloth or using a cleaner of any sort. Shows had a great assortment and were very entertaining, but when that was done for the evening there was nothing else to do. Did one excursion off the ship - it was good and could purchase tickets up until the time to go as they kept adding busses as needed - EXCELLENT. Over all was very disappointed with the cruise and will not go with Costa again as all previous cruises have been with Princess and Costa can't compete. Read Less

We have not travelled on the Costa line for 3 years and the change was beyond belief. No carafe water was served in the dining room at any time. Bottled water was available, of course, at a cost and including a service charge. Tea and coffee were available at breakfast, but not at lunch or dinner, unless one was prepared to pay for specialist drinks. The buffet closed at 5 p.m. for everything except iced water, (no hot water available after this time). We do not drink alcohol or soft drinks so this made it more difficult. Food quality was very poor. One lunch time we left the dining room, after an inedible meal, and were so hungry we had to go to the buffet. There was no steak served at any time, in the dining room, and one could have prawns or lobster, but at a price-- this in the ordinary dining room. We remember the quality and variety of the meals that used to be served, and it seems such a shame that it has deteriorated so badly. We are pearl members and chose this cruise for the excellent itinerary, but will never travel with Costa again, while present policy holds. The entertainment was poor, probably more suited to children. Shore excursions, that we were able to do, were excellent, but few available on the first leg of our cruise, as there were few English speakers. After having two tours cancelled we had to tell the tour office that we would be happy to take any tour, but still had tours cancelled late on the day before a tour, and after the tour office closed, so too late to organise anything else. We had pre- booked, weeks before embarkation. Staff and crew were generally excellent, except in the dining room, where there were too few waiters for meals, and too many drinks waiters. The ship was very pretty, but lacking in lounge areas; standing room only in the evenings, after first dining, unless one wanted to sit in the theatre. Comparing it to the 5 other cruise lines we have travelled, Costa does not give value for money. Read Less
