I first chose this cruise for the ports it was stopping at, what a mistake, the embarkation at Singapore should have told me what was to come ... how can it take 4 hours to board a ship ! .. the room was good, a good size with a shower room and bath room ? .. that’s the end of good I’m afraid. From the 3 film loop the tv was set on, a girl can only have so much of x men (7 times) to the 2 pea size “swimming pools”, 5200 guests on board, max capacity per pool 38 .. hahaha . The food was very poor, repetitive and cold, the fixed service charge per head outrageous as they still charge service on everything bought on the ship. And hygiene was sorely missing, they even removed the hand sanitiser from the front of one of the restaurants at one point.. no butter for a few days, no orange for a week .. staff who seemed poorly trained and uninterested. Worst entertainment I have ever experienced. They just didn’t seem bothered with the brits on board Sorry Costa , not for me ever again Read Less

If you want the Ryanair of sailing - Go with Costa Cruises. We had hoped for a trip of a lifetime but experienced the opposite. Even before we left the UK we were provided wrong information by Costa Cruises & Iglu Cruises regarding the requirement to have a full Chinese visa to visit Shenzhen. Arriving to board the ship in Singapore, we had to wait for over three hours in hot conditions with no water being provided. When we finally reached the check in desk, we had to sign a waiver regarding our visit to Shenzhen, agreeing to stay on board as we did not get a Chinese Visa. On finally getting to our cabin we were surprised how basic it was fitted out allowing that it was a new ship, especially as it did not have a refrigerator, which was necessary to store my medication. Information provided to British passengers was far from lacking which meant hours of queing at the Customer Services Desk, other nationalities seemed to have their own representatives scattered around the ship. The ship was finished to a relatively good standard but felt very cramped and crowded with over 5000 passengers on board. The ship did have two pools which were tiny and not very inviting. Meals during the day was nothing short of a bun fight in the main buffet restaurant, night time was a bit better with allocated dining. Overall the quality of food was OK but the eating habits of many of the passengers was very unsettling. Entertainment throughout was poor quality, shows were extremely short averaging only 30 minutes. Now the queues, you had to queue for literally everything, food, water, hot drinks, ice, Customer Desk, Tours Desk but worst of all the queing to get off the ship was generally uncontrolled and dangerous. Costa Cruises obviously do not adhere to health and safety when it comes to passengers. Even when we reached Tokyo it took over four hours to leave the ship. In summary the cruise was far from relaxing, staff could have been more customer focussed and the information and organisation should have been better. This experience has put us off booking a Costa (Carnival) Cruise again. Read Less

This cruise offered an amazing itinerary staying in Singapore before sailing to Thailand Vietnam Hong Kong China Taiwan and ending with a stay in Tokyo but it was terrible... the lack of organisation and entertainment... even the TV showed just 3 films which repeated on a loop over the 19 nights. The room was the best thing about trip and was kept clean unlike the rest of the ship. General areas were grubby we saw youngsters using the same cloth to wipe every table -no spray and I never saw a hand rail or door handle being cleaned...Worse than this the ship only had two small swimming pools for 5000 people and these were full to capacity with people standing for hours in the warm water... in the event me and my party had tummy upsets for the last 10 days -it was horrible. The food was very poor even the pasta.. everything tasteless no one asked why we were leaving the food or if everything was ok.. I even had to send an omelette back. The bread was the best thing. Worst was the coffee, I was so shocked as Italians boast best coffee in the world this was like dish water which I assume was linked to them wanting you to buy the coffee. This attitude of making money was reflected across the board including water in the dining room. I have been on a number of cruises where free transport is offered to town etc. Costa did not lay on one item of free transport but worse they withheld the fact that the local port offered free transport to nearest town. Every disembarkation was a mess with Costa giving contrary advice and taking hours. Worst for me was Hong Kong ...this itinerary had already been shortened to accommodate a longer stop in China. The captain decided to stay in port longer but did not tell us so we rushed back only to find a letter in the room saying they were leaving later This was very annoying as we had had to limit what we could see in one of the most interesting stop overs. Finally pre visit Costa had insisted we needed a visa for China even if we were not getting off the boat. We were told we would not be allowed to embark if we did not have the visa. In the event loads of people did not have a visa and we had paid £750 for our party to get visa's which we never needed and never used. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the chaos of embarkation should of forewarned us of what was to come. We pre booked an all inclusive drinks package and this was printed on our cabin card which was already in our cabin. Unfortunately every time we ordered a drink the package did not work so after 2 days and several trips to guest services the card was replaced. I was told "you will have to pay for your drinks tonight but the card will work tomorrow" We were told that it was because we booked it before we went onboard. Although it was printed on the card I had to provide an email which proved I had bought and paid for it. It was also suppose to cover the mini bar in our cabin except there wasn't one. Not even a fridge. Our balcony cabin was standard and disappointing for a brand new ship. As it was built for the chinese market there was only 1 european plug socket in the cabin however there were plenty of usb sockets. The cabin steward was excellent and kept the cabin spotless. We were very disappointed with the standard of food. It was served cold and mostly tasteless. Our waiters were very helpful but they did tell us that there were lots of complaints about the food being cold. The buffet restaurant was best avoided. Watching people carrying off huge trays of fresh fruit to wherever. I think certain passengers must have kept it in their cabin. The queues were huge especially at sea days when they provided an outdoor buffet with a theme. The swimming pools were very small and not adequate for the amount of people onboard. We took 2 trips, both of them in Vietnam. The organisation for getting people off the ship was non existent with queues blocking stairs and exits. On both trips we stopped at places to buy local handcrafts and this wasn't on the itinerary and caused us to be rushed at places that were. We went to the theatre for 1 show and decided not to bother as it was not brilliant and most shows were then shown on the large screen on the lido deck afterwards. The television channels were limited and the only English speaking one was a Chinese news channel although we didnt go on holiday to watch TV. The day in Hong Kong was cut short as we stayed longer in China. Unfortunately it was decided to add an extra couple of hours to our visit but quite a few people had already left the ship when this was announced so they rushed back to find they could have stayed longer. Not good organisation. I questioned both Iglu Cruises and Costa about the need for a Chinese Visa. I was informed that I had to have one to board the ship in Singapore. I then found out that there was a waiver form we could have signed and stayed on the ship. All in all most of the crew were polite, there was a language barrier with the newly recruited Chinese. As the ship is now based in China and wont enter the European market again I dont think Costa are particularly bothered by the poor reviews left by Europeans but I certainly wont use Costa again. I have cruised with Carnival previously, their parent Company and had no complaints. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we happened to be going from Singapore to Rome. The price was outstanding, so despite the generally poor reviews, we tried Costa. Shazaam!...now we’re big Costa fans! The ship is good, but the crew is amazing. Costa (or at least the Fortuna) clearly has the secret sauce recipe for keeping its crew (apparently) happy and very highly effective. Here’s some specifics: I’m an early riser, so I see the crew going at it when the guests are generally not watching. Every morning at 0430, they were energetically cleaning some new corner of the ship that I never even thought of...ceilings, corners where no one ever goes, the disco ball, under imovable chairs... And it really looked like a whistle-while-you-work operation, not a begrudging surface wipe-down so they could get back to standing around. This crew was always working hard and behaving upbeat. It’s all members of the crew, to. Waiters, cleaners, pool attendants, front desk personel, chefs...It’s systematic on Fortuna. On most days, they washed our cabin windows...on the OUTSIDE! In my limited cruising experience on other lines, I’ve never seen that done before. Service (all areas) was highly professional and FAIR. Perhaps it’s the Costa compulsory pre-paid tips model, but the crew is not at all pandering or obsequious (like all other cruise lines). They know their operating orders, and they do them. Full stop. Everyone gets the same professional treatment, so sometimes no means no, but at least it’s the same answer for everyone. Embarking and debarking was smooth in every port. Now the ports were generally awful (remote, barren, industrial, totally uninteresting), but at least they were managed well by the crew. The ports you can research beforehand, so you know what you are buying. Arrival and departure was in exact agreement with the published schedule. The food is over-the-top excellent! Stick with the Italian fare, and you’re in for quite a treat. Each day was the food of a different region of Italy, explained on the menu. My wife and I do not eat pasta, so what, you may ask, did we so happily eat? All the awesome non-pasta Italian dishes, which is most of them! We’re not exactly Italian foodies, so we did not know what to expect. The reviews had us concerned it was going to be all pasta, all the time. But nothing could have been further from the truth. Every lunch and dinner was a truly wonderful experience. Fortuna 100% changed (for the better) our opinion and appreciation of Italian food. As an Italian cruise line, you’ll be travelling with lots of Italians, living their Italian way. What a happy atmosphere! All the great older Italian couples kissing, dancing, holding hands, cheering, speaking loudly with every part of their body...come get your Italy on! Having experienced various US and Asia cruisers before, these Italians were a very fresh breath of air. On the down-side, there wasn’t a good promenade deck. The track is always too windy, too sunny, or too full. The outer “promenade” on deck three is small and usually full of smokers (half crew). The hot tubs were awful...not nearly hot enough, yet always full. We tried them once, showered 5 times with soap and scrubbie, and never stuck our toe in again. There was no TV movie schedule, not even if you beg the hospitality desk. Most surprisingly, their espresso was highly disappointing. We tried it several times, expecting good Italian slap-in-face robustness, but instead got more of a poke-in-the-eye. The gym is also rather disappointing. It looks like a converted dance club. It’s odd shape and design makes most ofthe floor space unusable. That’s ok, we used Rex Theater for our yoga and cross-training, and that usually worked fine (at carefully chosen times). So ten cheers for Costa Fortuna, the fantastic crew, and it’s proud representation of (almost) all things Italy. We can’t wait for more Costa cruises! Read Less

Chose this cruise due to outstanding places, visiting Singapore, Bangkok, Khuala Lampur, Phuket, Langkawi, Penang, Ko Samui, Sinahoukville. All were great places to visit with lots of temple, artifact, great people and fabulous food. Best of all, Bangkok. A city so vibrant, lots of cafes and restaurant in every corner with so many dishes to choose from, its an unbelievable city. Next on the list is of course Singapore, so clean, friendly, cosmopolitan and a bit on the expensive side. Phuket was not that great, of course if you like athmosphere towns like Ibiza or Ayia Napa full of restaurants and bars and night clubs, than Phuket its for you. Had a nice meal in a hotel restaurant and overall was good. Local dishes were great! Prawns in quantity and abundance. Cambodia was a let down, I wonder what the local government is doing about the state of the city. After all they suffer, the population demand and expect better, tourist are flocking into the city, money is coming in, but the total structure is way below poverty line. Feel very sorry for the locals. The ship (Costa Fortuna) was a bit of let down, cabin was good and spacious, restaurant were mediocre, buffet very crowde as expected due to lay out. Far too many DONT for a crusie liner, hence the heading of cutting services. Far too many member of the catering team in the buffet area, speak other language execpt the language to connetc with guest. Meaning, if a waiter is from Indonesia or the Philippines, they continually speak own language aloud in public areas. Denying English Breakfast Tea at breakfast time, afternoon tea time and any other time, contrary to other company in the market, which tea is always welcome and available. Some guests were asking for lemon for the tea, and were told no more lemon. Run out of Prosecco on board, run out of sparkling water with 5 day to end the cruise. In the restaurant, lots of supervisory member walk around the floor, including the Manager, but none interact with guest in checking that food is appreciated and of the standard required, in few occasion had to send back the dinner due to food being cold. Felt sorry for the waiter, but after all I paid for a service that didnt get accordingly! Have another cruise booked with Costa in March, and have lots of concern of fulfillment and pleasure. Worst of all, at the end of the cruise, you are lumped with a bill of 200 euro for service charge which the company say its compulsory making the total of cruise much higher than expected. Surely this is against the law in the UK. Read Less

Ship layout easy to understand and staff very easy to handle your technical or hospitality issues. 98% of the crew do their job with love and passion and are well trained to handle difficult demanding passengers . I recommend 1 crew from the bar Vietnamese Ngoc Tuan Vo . The food variety is truly huge with beef turkey fish pastas salads fruits . Their deserts are poor . Healthy and vegetarian options available too . Spa is very overpriced . The many jacuzzi are the best most powerful you can imagine. Clean and hygienic too . Pools with waves are interesting. Slide always closed despite good weather . Passengers onboard are polite and understand the rules . Internet connection is ok , especially with the cheap package" social internet package ". Read Less

We were travelling as a group of 8 to celebrate a special birthday. We chose this cruise line and this cruise due ro the date and location being roughly mid- way as both families travelled from opposite parts of the globe. Both families are experienced cruisers and this certainly was an experience to remember- but not in a good way! The best thing about this cruise was the company and we made the best of it. We made our own fun. From embarkation to disembarkation the cruise was characterised by chaos, low quality and staff indifference. Embarkation was painfree dor us due ro being in suites but overall this process waa not well managed so the very first customer experience was bot a good one. There were lengthy waiting lines at the hospitality desk and once you got to the top of the queue you were met by disinterested staff! In terms of food, this was poor in terms of qualiry of ingredients and taste. Night after night there was a sameness about the dining experience and I know costa's meals do not reflect good Italian fare. Average is the word I would use to describe the food. I would say this is a budget cruise line and you get what you pay for. Sometimes you don't get what you paid for- other reviews have mentioned that the pool slide was not working and I find it hard to comprehend that this had not been fixed from previous cruises. Limited availability of hand sanitizer so I was pleased we brought our own... We were in suites so were able to eat in Conde Grande- we breakfasted here as we wanted to join our friends for dinner each night. Highlight of the breakfast was the salmon that was available. The offerings from the menu here were bizarre and lacklustre.particularly memorable were the overcooked hard poached eggs- the same every day and inedible! Our suite was clean although we only sighted our butler twice and his English was poor so we stopped asking him for help. E.g. he didn't seem to understand about restocking the mini bar with the beverages we selected. It was good to have toiletries in this cabin but housekeeping didn't seem to realise that these needed to be restocked when they had been finished. Service around the ship was generally slow whether this be in the dining rooms or bars. Staff didn't seem to understand more than simple phrases and so it was difficult to engage with them. There was a distinct nonchalance and lack of responsibility when we pointed out something that needed to be changed. I put this down to a lack of customer service and training and ultimately costa not valuing their staff or the customer experience. I simply cannot recommend Costa as a cruise line and have already booked another cruise with Celebrity- our cruise line of choice. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it suited our dates and meeting up with friends from the other side of the world. Costa cruises have not understood what they are selling - it seems they think they provide a transport when they SHOULD provide an experience for their customers! * Very poor service - always long queues at the hospitality service, who where the only ones to answer any questions, even though they didn´t understand the language. Poor service. * Additional costs, which you didn´t know about. * Poor service at the cabins, we had bought a full drinking package which included minibars - but they didn´t fill it up or they filled it up with what they had on their carriage - meaning Sprite, Coke. No water. * Very poor foodquality at main dinner! And slow service - they didn´t know how to serve at a table. Unexperienced, untrained personel..... Very rude Head waiters! As I wrote before - I wonder if they know why they are there! For whom...... * they asked us to fill in 9-10 on their evaluation - because they had all these 900 personel working up to 12 hours a day, 5-11 months a year, without any days off - which they were bragging about. I should be embarrased to say that at all!!!! Maybe that is why they cannot fulfill their work - they are exhausted... Summary, bad service and bad organisation. It is so little needed for the customer to be satisfied. And they failed it totally!!! DO NOT BUY A CRUISE WITH THE COSTA FORTUNA! Read Less

I was quit apprehensive after booking for this cruise which fitted well with my schedule after having read some not so nice reviews. All these were dispelled after completing this cruise.I juz can't find any disappointment with this trip except the embarkation process took slightly more than 2 hrs and some younger waiters were inexperienced during the breakfasts served in thr dining room. The ship had a very capable and hospitable crew though at times, it was difficult to communicate because of language problems. The food was good and more than sufficient which were served at my table. My room was exceedingly spacious and comfortable. The entertainment each evening was spontaneous, professional and exciting. I would however, appreciate if free water could be served for those having their dinners at Raffalelo and Michelangelo. I am glad that I have chosen this cruise. i will definitely participate in costa cruises again if my schedule permits Read Less

I travelled with my wife and children to Port Klang and Phuket recently. We had quite an enjoyable time as this was our first trip aboard a ship. Despite the many shortcomings - shower not very hot, food quite average only, difficulty to find our way going through several rooms, no mineral waters in cabin and few pillows only, we had a fun time generally. We enjoyed the night shows, music and walkabouts around the ship. Perhaps, the coffee served could have been better as some guest look forward to it in the mornings. Also, the tours organised at Klang and Phuket were too short for shopping and sight-seeing. The organisation by CTC tours was orderly and well managed generally though. Overall, we had a good time as the room was kept clean daily and comfortable. We would like to compliment the waiters at Michelangelo for their excellent service, especially Janice Raj and Fahrul who were extraordinary in their service throughout our dining time there. We were entertained without any delay and were even served beyond our expectation. On the last night of our trip, Fahrul even surprised me being a vegetarian with an Indian food that really touched our hearts. These 2 gentlemen are definitely wonderful ambassadors to your fleet who made our day special. Read Less

Embarkation from Marina Bay Cruise Centre was a breeze. There was sufficient manpower to direct the guests. They took notice of guests with young children or aged guests. We took 15min to board since we brought along aged parents. HOWEVER, disembarkation at the same port at the end of the cruise was a nightmare because 2000 guests were leaving at the same time. Despite being assigned staggered disembarkation timings, it was one big pandemonium at the exit points. We were assigned the first group for disembarkation but the meeting point was already congested. So, we were sandwiched for an hour like in a subway peak hour carriage. Disembarkation at other ports were uneventful.I wished we were offered a cold drink or a cold towel though. All guests should note, the check-in luggage porters can only accomodate suitcase/trolley luggages. Sports utility bags, shopping bags, backpacks are out. I think guests who are travelling alone will appreciate the availability of single cabins, considerate dining arrangements of table for twos at the buffet corner, as well as in the restaurants. The water slide was closed. The gym was closed after second day. The pools were crowded. Sigh! Considering that the ship is plying around Southeast Asia which is humid, hot, and wet weather all roll into one, the absence of ice-cream parlours, water coolers and memories of seeing long queues of people filling their water bottles and milk bottles at the buffet stands were a sorry sight. One last caution. Pasta is freeflowing. Pizzas? You have to pay. I am sorry but I missed Costa Victoria. Read Less

They say you get what you pay for, but even at the great price they were offering, you got a lot LESS that what you paid for on this cruise. As an adult I have been on more than 100 cruises and as a teenager my father was a cruise ship captain. This cruise was by far the bottom of the barrel. The crew is so over worked, that there is no way they can provide good service. The biggest thing the ship needs to do is get less senior officers and more workers. There are more than enough officers standing around doing nothing while there was a shortage of people to do the work They even charge for water. On every other ship we have been on, you could always go some where to get water, tea or coffee at no charge. If you want water at dinner, no problem either pay per glass or purchase a water package. The food in the dinning rooms and buffet was so bad that it forced you go to the for pay dinning rooms. The terms planning, organization, and logic have totally evaded this ship. Our tours (that we did not book with the ship) were great and we plan to visit many of the ports again on another cruise line. In the disembarkation talk the crew speaker spent over 10 minutes telling us why we should give them 10s on the survey because the problems were not the fault of the crew. In short, stay away from the Victoria and Costa in general. Read Less

We had chosen this cruise because of the nice weather and the price was ok for us. We did a cruise with Costa Neoclassica from Savona to India in November 2017 and that one was beautiful. All our cruises with Costa were nice. We exprerienced more than 10 cruises, but this cruise was a disaster. It was the last cruise of this ship Victoria, it sailed from Asia to Europe and to be refurbished in Marseille to sail in Europe in the next future. The Italian animation team was very much to loud, the whole day they screemed on the deck. The refurbisment was already started. The carpet was already pulled loose, the stairs were already disassembled and sanded, the tenderboats were already sanded, the ceilings already came down, the chairs were already re-upholstered. All day you heard knocking, sawing, sanding, carpentry and so on. The workmen in black and white suits were busy all day. The quality of the food was in the first week ok, but the last two weeks terrible, old frozen food, no variety, cheap food unmade. I think the freezers had to be empty before the cruises ended. The dinner lasted 2.5 hours, there was far too little staff, between the various dishes we had to wait half an hour. Food appeared that you had not ordered, or it did not come at all. At 8 o'clock in the morning most of the chairs were already occupied with towels and personal belongings. Passengers occupied the seats all day long, although sometimes they were not there for hours. Costa did nothing. For me NEVER COSTA AGAIN. Read Less

Chose this cruise because the dates and the embarkation port were convenient for me. That is the good stuff out of the way, and the rest was downhill. The fact that drinking water is not provided free on a cruise in such a hot region tells you all you need to know. in 21 days only one of the two ice machines worked and then only for one day. No water provided with evening meal and no tea or coffee afterwards. Menus poor and reconstituted potato used. Drinks packages were a complete rip off. Passports were taken on day one, and only a photocopy given out (too late to be useful in some cases). When we went to Langkawi we found that the duty free shops would not allow sales unless the photcopy was shown but we had not received ours. So after a hot and sweaty trip back to the ship - queueing at the info desk to receive a copy, then a further hot and sweaty trip back to the shop - I finally managed to buy some perfume, but the whole process took half of the day we were there. Then the final insult, a photocopy (second one) was delivered to my cabin half an hour before the ship sailed out. I was given the WRONG advice about the mandatory visa for India and so paid out £140 for a two year visa instead of a £40 short term stay visa. The disembarkation port was Savona, Italy, where the ship was going into dock for a 12 day maintenance period, but we still had to vacate the cabin by 8 am and then sit in the theatre until 11.30 waiting for our transfer coach. No laundries on board and the cabin laundry service was EXPENSIVE. Would never book with COsta again. Read Less

Royal Caribbean was much more expensive and had a less attractive itinery. Costa Victoria is old. Built in 1996, and is by current standards a small ship. This would however not have to be only a disadvantage. A small ship can have its advantages. Unfortunatelly that was not the case with Costa Victoria. The decor of the ship is just uggly and would really need an upgrade. There's plenty of space on deck, but not enough deck chairs forcing people to simply place the towels on the fake "grass" floor, and the "solarium" in the forward of the ship needs at least a jacuzzi or something to relieve the main pool area. We we're upgraded from an inside to an outside cabin which was a very nice surprise! The outside cabins which comes with only a porthole window. The cabin is very small and the orange colors are not pleasant. No seating are is available so oyu have to sit in the bed to view TV. The bathroom is fine though. The dining options available are the absolute basics. It's either the buffet, or the main dining rooms. The buffet has 4 parallel lines, but only one is serving the grilled meat/fish why all people needs to queue in this line. For lunch the poolside of the buffet is serving burgers. unfortunatelly not tasty at all :(. No pizza or ice cream was available at all which suprised me on an italian ship. The MDR has two seatings, no flexible time dining. The gala dinner was rather good, but most other days the food was below standards. We shared dinner table with people from Scottland, Italy, Russia, Ukrain and Slovakia (we're from Sweden). Exiting, but not practial since not all could speak the same language. There was about 25 other Swedes onboard the ship and some british/americans which would have been much better for us to dine with for language reasons. The "theater" is more like a normal show room in 2 levels. 2 of the shows, one italian tenor and one acrobatic show was good, the other dance shows was boring. When we embarked costa took our passports and said they we're going to keep it for the entire cruise. I tried to understand why, but no one could answer me. They just said "this is how Costa always do", however, I have been with Costa 2 times before and they have not taken my passport. The day before disembarkation we had to queue to get them back. I then noticde the passports had been stamped by Thai and Cambodian customs. So maybe this was the reason for collecting them, but it would have felt better if this information was provided to us prior to embarkation. Btw, we was informormed just days before the cruise that a mandatory fee of $40 per person was going to be applied for Cambodian Visa (also applicable if not disembarking the ship). This shold have been made clear when booking the cruise, or better, including in the cruise price. Cruising is always a pleasurable way to travel, and even with the bare minimum of the cruise experience the Costa Victoria provides I find it worth the money paid. But for sure there shold be a significant difference in price, or much better itinery if I would choce costa again for my future cruises. Read Less

If you want a good cruise, I suggest leave Costa well alone. We hated everything, from embarkation procedure to disembarkation. Couldn't wait to get off. I suggest the management go on cruises with their competitors and learn how to run a cruise line and treat guests. I probably don't have enough space to write all our complaints, but here's some. Our cabin had an interconnecting door with the next cabin and it may as well have been open, as we could hear next door talking and the guy snoring all night, so we hardly got any sleep. We asked to be moved, but were told the ship was full. It had 1500 people out of space for 1900! The food was absolutely dreadful, both in the dining room and in the buffet. Full of butter, cream, cheese or all of them. The meat was so overcooked, you could hardly cut it. After breakfast, you could not get a free cup of coffee. My wife is dairy intolerant and the staff from the chef down, couldn't care less. The Italian staff were generally rude, the other staff, excellent. Eve, the English rep on board was 10/10. She helped any way she could, but was up against "company policy." Which meant, do nothing. Hygiene on board was terrible. Hardly anyone sanitised their hands and there was no policing of it. People filled water bottles beside signs saying don't do this and staff standing beside them, saying nothing. Read Less

Greatly recommend to those who are keen to go for a cruise managed by a poor management who always put on an "unhappy" face on all their cruise with no proper instructions given and when questions were raised by their guest to their crew, the standard reply was "I don't know, please check with another crew.". Also if you do not wish that the crew to enter your cabins, do remember to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign at your door as our room was entered multiple times for no particular reasons even though we didn't call for housekeeping and we realised that our laptop had been touched ( as we left room for a short time to attend their concert, we left our laptop open and when we were back, it was closed and the whole room was pitch dark - even side table lights were offed. ) When asked to the information counter, they said we didn't put "DTD" thus the crews can enter and leave anytime they like. Toilets were filled with moulds at bathing area, beds were stained with black stains even after a housekeeping session done.. Smoke can be smelt along the corridor of the cabins, insufficient kettles available as well. The adapter given by the crew had sparks coming out from it when it was plucked it and when asked for an exchange, the crew said that they ran out of it. Long queues during meal times and there was no one controlling the crowd nor guiding the passengers. Ice cream stall only open for 1 meal throughout the 5 days of cruise. Speciality restaurant does not offer all indicated food items and we were not told before we sat down for our meal. Waste of money. There is 3 eating area for the passengers, however, only 2 is available as 1 is converted to "FOR SUITE" passengers only. We purchased the non-alcoholic beverage package but the crew would keep on telling us that the non-alcoholic drinks are not included and we had to pay extra (don't buy package as they don't honour it). No proper lightings near the swimming pool where some kids are found running in dark as well which is very dangerous. Entertainment were the same for the 5 days. Poor management on disembarkation and embarkation as well as no proper direction nor instructions given, announcement system is also not clear. Overall, its a waste of money and time, both my partner and I are very displeased with the service provided, management control, experience, condition of the cabin and the embarkation and disembarkation process. This is not our first time cruising on a cruise liner but it will be the first time and LAST TIME cruising with COSTA VICTORIA. Read Less

I am eager to write this review in order to increase this cruise rating. After my mom paid for this cruise, she did a bit of research about Costa Victoria. Mostly was awful, so we almost cancelled our cruise and let the money go instead of wasting our time. But it is our last trip with my brother before he went overseas, so we decided to go. And seriously, this is my first cruise and it is AWESOME! well, for me the ship was huge (although they said it's a small ship). Food was FREE (even for semi fine dining version), unlimited and great (especially for indian food), but you have to pay for other premium drinks. the timing was PERFECT (23 Dec at 22.00 until 27 Dec 14.00). I respect all of the crew members that give their best effort to serves us day and night with their best smile to ensure our best experience on cruise (THANK YOU!). The cabin design is old fashioned, but CLEAN, they clean our cabin twice a day. Endless parties and event for sure. Definitely WORTH IT for their value for money. To get this personal, I'm 22 yrs old and I came from Indonesia. Not really the best cruise for my age, but I totally recommend this cruise for FAMILY who had kids around 12 yrs old. Read Less

**Please do not ever take Costa Victoria Ship, Italian Cruises.** My purpose for this post is not to complain, but more of making sure that the public do not get the same poor experience as I did. I went with my family (as a group of 20) and here is a brief summary of what happened in the 4d3n cruise experience (Starting from the most pertinent problem to trivial ones) 1. Bedbugs Upon entering the cabin, my cousin and I checked for bedbugs but all seemed clear and the cabin looked decent. When I returned to my cabin at 3am and after showering and lying down on the bed for a while, I started feeling itchy around my back and neck. I got up to check in the mirror and saw clusters of bites and I guessed my worst fears came true. I immediately went to check my bed and noticed a couple of tiny bloodstains which were not there previously. Then I saw some live bedbugs under my blanket which I killed. I did not want to wake my cousin to change the room immediately as it was already very late and we were going to wake up early the next day hence I waited it out. The following morning, I saw an even larger bedbug below my pillow. (to be continued) 2. Response to situation a. My cousin and I went to the information counter to inform them of the situation. The first response from the staff? "You sure it's bed bugs? Did you see the actual insect?" Instead of showing concern for the customer, their first response was to attempt to weasel out of the situation and divert the blame. With some reluctance, they offered to conduct an investigation (to ascertain if I was lying) and asked me to check back the counter in an hours' time. After 2 hours, they finally finished their "investigation" and the first option they offered was: To do a thorough cleaning of room and change of bedsheets, not a change of room. In cases of bedbugs, deep cleaning is required and is normally done by professionals that have the necessary tools and chemical to exterminate bedbugs but they said 2 hours of cleaning would get rid of the bugs. Of course, we would not accept that and eventually got a change of room and before we moved into our new room, we had to go back up to the old cabin to retrieve our luggage. When we got up, the room looks new and clean, with bed sheets changed as well (They probably noticed the bloodstains and some bedbugs) and there I saw 1 bedbug crawling by the side (As shown in the video attached). ** After our cruise, there is another batch of passengers and there is no time to conduct deep cleaning of the rooms. (I'd leave it to you to imagine what is going to happen) b. I asked for some cream to apply on the bites to stop the itch and inflammation - they said they do not have any cream - If I go to the medical center I have to pay for it (despite me sustaining the bites onboard) [to be continued] 3. Medical Center There was a SECOND incident of bedbugs in a separate room (of my uncle's), so I tried again on the following day and finally understanding the severity of the situation, they offered to bring me to the medical center on the ship's account. - Went there, sat for 30 minutes while the Italian doctors/medic were conversing in Italian even though it is a straightforward case: Saw the picture of the bug, inspect the bite, and prescribe me the cream - Amidst their conversation, my cousin and I figured from the English words they used "Complaint", "Ship's account", "Bedbugs", "report", and they finally gave me the cream and 2 of them talked amongst themselves, suggesting "Allergy" - From our inference, the waiting time was for them to determine how to write their report so as to absolve the blame from the ship, probably by claiming that I had allergies rather than getting bedbug bites. 4. Facilities / Activities Limited entertainment facilities: - Spa (That was an indoor pool with cold seawater) - Gym (Was decent) - Sauna (Too small) - Theatre (Which has almost no activities) - Outdoor pool (1 baby pool, 4 jacuzzis, 1 normal pool of only 10m) - Card Room (Looks decent but we did not use it) - Casino (Outdated and combined withthe kid's arcade, which is extremely inappropriate) - Kids' club (Acts as a childcare centre, which is actually not bad) - Disco (That I have no idea what it's for) - Basketball court (The only thing that is at the top deck) - DFS Repeated/boring activities: - Seminars (Often conducted under different names but it's the same activity) - Some dance classes - Italian lesson (1 hour on the 3rd day?) **The activities may not be bad, but there is limited engagement because the staff are simply not passionate enough and passengers can feel it. **No free drinking water, not even water dispensers, everything has to be paid for (Even those in the suites only get 1 bottle a day) 5. Service ***** After playing in the casino, I went to ask for some water. - The staff said I can only get bottled water - I asked if there was plain water - She said "Do you want bottled water or tap water?" - I asked, "Is the tap water drinkable?" (Knowing that ship's tap water is not potable) - "No" - If the tap water is not drinkable, why would she even offer that?! If it's others who did not know, she would have given it to them. - Hard to get smiles on the staff - Staff works extremely slow (It takes us around 40 mins to be served in the restaurants) [Most likely due to lack of enthusiasm and culture created from top-down] 5. Feedback form - Towards the end of the cruise, some of us had to attend the disembarking briefing, and they wanted us to fill up this feedback form - Instead of asking for our sincere feedback and ways in which they could improve upon, they EXPLICITLY stated that for Q1: How has your cruise experience been? [ We should fill in Excellent only] & Q16: Would you recommend Costa Victoria to your friends and family? [ We should fill in 'Yes, definitely!'] - That night, they made 2 announcements to submit our feedback form and EMPHASIZED to fill in the 2 questions as suggested - The following morning, at 0900 hrs and 0930 hrs, they made the same announcement re-emphasizing the need to fill in the 2 questions as such. **A good cruise would never have to worry about customers' feedback. The fact that they constantly reminded us to answer the questions in a certain way made a lot of us sick to the stomach. 6. Food / Miscellaneous I wish Gordon Ramsay was there -- it would have been 'Cruise Nightmares'. The food was so trashy that it was a slimming cruise for me. - In one of the photos, is the crabs where the gills are not even removed (One of the dirtiest parts of the crab) - Lobsters: For the first 3 days, we had the option to pay USD15 to purchase a lobster meal, but on the 3rd night, we were offered that option. It was not fresh to the extent that it tasted like mashed potato stuffed in lobster shells. - Steak: Felt stale and had a gross aftertaste, something I never had before - So-called fine dining experience: Is actually 'recycled' food from the buffet area. - Virtually nothing was beyond edible, even those that we had to pay for (E.g. USD8.50 pizzas that used frozen dried shrimps that had a stale taste) - However, the desserts are generally not bad. This whole experience has been so bad (and you can see the aftermath of the bites I suffered, not just limited to the back). We paid about 400+USD for 4D3N but there were so many other costs, such as COMPULSORY tips, paid water, paid food, paid activities. Until now, Royal Carribean still remains the best experience one can have (Having a dedicated crew that serves you during meal time, polite staff, fun activities and a myriad of onboard activities to do) So, please, I implore anyone out there who is considering a cruise trip to not scrimp on 200USD and just go for Royal Carribean, not Costa Cruise. This cruise is great for families with or without kids. From the moment we check-in our luggage to the queuing to go into the ship was a breeze. Staff at check-in was very efficient. When we finally got to embark on the ship it was fun all the way. The staff gave a very warm welcome. Throughout the cruise, staffs were very courteous and helpful. Cabin was very clean although the mattress was hard. We had 2 pillows each and we slept very well. For our first meal we dined at Bolero. The food is good but not fantastic. Ambience of the restaurant was so-so. We decided that we will not be having our meals there anymore. We tried the other two restaurants, Sinfornia and Fantasia. They have better variety of food there. Still good but not fantastic. Much better than Bolero. Buffet menu is the same everyday. I must give good credits for the entertainment and activities. It was so much fun with all the parties, dancing and games. The live entertainment was amazing. I would give it 5 star for the dancers. Would I go again? Yes I would but hopefully they change their daily buffet menu. Read Less

I picked Costa Victoria because she is the only vessel that arrives in Penang in the morning. Most market areas are open early in the morning and most traditional shops close by early or late afternoons. Food is good(lots of seafood) and value for money as compared to my recent experience onboard Diamond Princess and Sapphire Princess.I think Costa Victoria has a more experienced kitchen team. Food is available 24hrs a day in different parts of the ship. Onboard activities were less varied.Service from the different dining restaurants were top-notch.My only dissatisfaction is the drinking water. It tasted salty during my stay. There was no TV entertainment in English. I rang the reception to confirm there was no movie on TV. Every channel was in mandarin when most of the passengers are from India. There is an onboard app which can be downloaded before we board the trip. This app allowed me to ring the cabin, communicate with other passengers when we are in different parts of the ship. It's free and we could find the whereabouts of our family members in the ship.
