Having read some of the previous reviews, we were a bit worried about taking this cruise. However, overall it warrants the four stars I have given it. The service throughout the ship was mostly very good, which was good as you cannot remove the service charge of 10 Euros per person a day on any Costa ship. The ship was in a pretty good condition, but it is starting to show a few signs of needing a dry dock. The entertainment was varied but we enjoyed most of it, obviously it is down to your taste. It is definitely a party ship, with lots of music and dancing. There was a good choice of food in the main dining room, and it usually was hot enough. In the buffet the choice was also good, but it was often only luke warm. A tip would-be to have breakfast in the main dining room, it means you can always get a seat and much of it is buffet service, but you can order things such as omelettes from a menu. You can only get tea and coffee in the buffet when breakfast and afternoon tea is on, otherwise you have to get it from a bar and pay. This was not a problem for us as we had the drinks package. This was a slow way to return to S. America and the ports made this a good choice. The ship was fairly full with guests from Spain, Italy, Finland, Russia, Switzerland, Holland, France, Argentina, Germany, Brazil, UK, USA and others. Embarkation was slow in Savona, took us two and a half hours to get onboard. The food was Italian as expected with some unusual options such as pasta with squid, grilled salt cod and an odd dinner selection of sausages with endive with a pita bread on the side. Service was leisurely at meals but the waiters tried hard to please everyone. One table companion had registered as gluten free and at times seemed to get better options. When several others asked for the same choice, the head waiter was summoned and said only pre registered guests with a doctor's letter could pick from the gluten free menu. Coffee and tea is not avaiable after lunch or dinner in the DR but the waiters were generous with the wine for those with drink packages. Entertainment was quite good most nights with male tenors, dancing, magic acts and other singers. Most of the bars had music every night, some very good. We took several Costa tours -in Europe, all our tours in English were cancelled due to insufficient numbers but I rebooked in Spanish with no problems using the Totem machines. Tours mostly catered to two languages so we has Spanish/ Italian, Spanish /Portuguese, then once we hit Brazil English/Finnish, English/French and English/ German tours. Once we hit Rio, there was a major exodus and 1200 Brazilians came onboard. The whole ambiance changed with a late disco opening at midnight and a late dinner at 0100 to 0500. Breakfast in the dining room was almost emty at 0800 as many of the new arrivals slept in. Many of the new passengers were in their twenties and thirties compared to the more senior crowd who boarded in Europe. Customer service was fair to poor with long line ups at the desks and "Come back tomorrow" being a popular response. The TV and internet were very poor, much of the time there was no TV at all except the onboard channels showing tours and safety information. Internet was spotty with no service available at times. Our balcony cabin was comfortable and our cabin steward did a good job. Read Less

Recommended by friends who had been and we loved this cruise! Flew to Nice and used the Costa coach transfer to Savonna. Embarkation was very efficient and cruise terminal in Savonna comfortable. First stop was Marseille, the cruise terminal is about 10km from town centre with free bus shuttle provided by the port. In Cadiz the railway station is right next to the terminal. In Madeira, St Martin, St Kitts, Antigua and Martinique we shared minibuses or taxis - we were in party of 4 - for 25 to 30 USdollars or euros per person. In Philipsburg the water taxi is great to get you to the beach. Five days at sea were very relaxing with good activities . We enjoyed the Italian course with Marco and took part in table tennis "tournaments""- we had brought our bats. Food on the Pacifica was superb, our waiter Ramir very helpful and spoke good English. Got a delicious birthday cake for only 11 euros - and card from captain. The entertainers dealt brilliantly with all the languages, shows were good and plenty of live music and dancing in bars. We left the ship in Guadeloupe and disembarkation was quick and efficient. A great cruise and would definitely go with Costa again Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had just spent 8 days cruising the amazon river, we thought this would be an ideal way to return home without the long flight, My husband and I have cruised with a number of cruise companies including Costa although this was some years ago and was excellent then( it was the first cruise we had ever done). I have to say the standard now is extremely poor, regretably this is the worst cruise we have ever been on. Even low budget cruise lines offer a better experience than Costa do now. It would appear that the line is so dedicated to saving money that customer satisfaction has been forgotten. If you wish to have tea/coffee with your meals (apart from breakfast) you have to pay for it, no water with evening meal unless you pay for it! Coffee and tea available only between 4.00 and 5.00 pm, unless of course you wanted to pay extra for it. The food in the dining room was very poor, and the self service restaurant rarely available in the evening. The waiter/ under waiter were very good. The food in the self service area was better although not as well organised as it could be. The area was so crowded that after you had secured a table one of your party could get theIr meal first whilst the other reserved the spot (therefore not really eating together). The evening shows were generally poor. The excursions are expensive but I think in line with other cruise companies, The staff were very good although we didn't have contact with many as we are not generally interested in the entertainment. I can see why the tips are compulsory - because a lot of passengers would be reluctant to give what is recommended after such a disappointing holiday, what appeared to be a reasonable priced cruise turned out to be quite expensive and not good value for money. I don't usually do reviews, I think this will give you an idea of how poor this cruise was. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING, WE WON'T BE TRAVELING WITH COSTA AGAIN. YOUR COST CUTTING WILL COST YOU CUSTOMERS. Had wonderful cruise from Buenos Aires to Savona, Italy.we are very seasoned cruisers and after reading some reviews a little worried no need to be, lovely clean ship inside and out! Food ranged from good to excellent, starters could have been main course .in 3 weeks the evening menu was never repeated, the service was probably some of the best and friendliest we have had in 16 cruises and the entertainment in the bar lounges and theatre was also really good and once again in the theatre different show every night of 3 weeks,we particularly enjoyed Georgio pianist usually in Ricks bar.they even held a small cocktail party for the English mothers on mothering Sunday, there were only 22 of us ,cruisedwith british company on that day couple of years ago and they did nothing.and that would be my only moan, there were just a few English speaking,1200 Argentinians on board, but we enjoyed all the different nationalities and got used to multilingual announcements and fun at the quizzes,we joined 2 lovely Mexican ladies as a team.would have no hesitation to book with Costa again, great value.
