The cruise in October was my 65th birthday present to myself and also the itinerary had great appeal, embarking in Barcelona. Interestingly , there were new passengers on a daily basis, so there were new faces most mornings at breakfast.I noticed at least 8-10 wheelchair bound passengers during the seven day trip, fantastic to have such provision for disabled people. For once , the British speaking passengers were the minority, which added to the fun we had. large Italian families travelling together in addition to other folk from all over the world.Offshore shuttles, for those of us not wishing to join booked excursions were punctilious and well organised. The office"staff' went to so much trouble to assist us on disembarkation day, we hade a late evening flight to Dubai, so they kept our luggage in the office and let us stay on Board until 15h00, they phoned the taxi company to change our collection time, all with a smile and such efficiency (Laura and Miekle) World Class Service indeed. We chose this voyage because the timing allowed us to complete an earlier Princess cruise; spend a week driving the northern lake region of Italy; pick up this cruise, and then put us in position to cruise back to the States. (We were celebrating our 60th anniversary/80th birthdays...while we both were still standing.) We've traveled Costa previously. Costa Cruise Line may not be for everyone; it has been good for/to us. For whatever reason, some travel agents will not book you on Costa. If you find this to be the case and you really like your agent, book the cruise yourself and having done that, transfer the booking to your travel agent. Failing that, book the cruise yourself and forget the agent. Costa, in Europe, caters to typically not less than 6 nationalities aboard the ship. Your announcements are therefore (typically) in 6 different languages! Italian, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and English. With the increase in Asian tourists, do not be surprised if additional groups are catered to. The preceding isn't bad, it just "is". Since the groups mentioned are on board, the ship's tours are offered in the respective language. That's the good news. The bad new if not enough people of a group book the tour; the tour is cancelled. The option is to join another group's "language" tour. The tour office is well organized and joining the correct tour is typically a non-event. Regarding dining room seating, somehow you are seated with a group that speaks your language. The food is OK. Formal nights are a farce (at least on this cruise). Tennis shorts and sweater around the neck was allowed. Entertainment was generally good+. The "My Way" dining room is less crowded since the majority of guests opt for the NY one. Service was fine in the dining room. Their main floor show is excellent with good cast. The other shows are good/typical. As with all cruises, there are daily events throughout the day such as lectures/demonstrations/movies and such. Their Internet room is fine. There are also stores in which to shop and naturally a Casino. Their "front desk" will change money (U.S./Euro/Pounds) which is important since you'll need $20 in pounds if you are going on a tour in Britain and plan to snack/have coffee. If Costa is going at the time you want to go; to the place(s) you want to go...the go with Costa...if nothing else, the price will be right! Read Less

Plus Points 1. Tour Price was significantly discounted 2. Excellent Itinerary 3. Overall Service & Cleanliness were good 4. We liked the dance lessons Negative Points 1) Embarkation was unusually slow, departure delayed by almost two hours 2) Smoking on board a) Limits to smoking only in restricted deck areas outside were not enforced, smokers were running everywhere. b) Cigarette smoke penetrated frequently into the cabin (air condition) c) Smoking lounge very smelly, ashtrays full over the days, place untidy and uninviting, no wonder the people looked for smoking elsewhere. 3) Dining a) Catering was strictly regimented with restricted hours of service, especially in the self-service areas: no coffee or tea after breakfast, no water after buffet time. In the restaurants with service, all drinks, including water, had to be paid. There was not free drinking water served at the table. b) Cuisine was practically limited to an average Italian style: pasta, pasta, cod fish and other simple dishes. Anything above that was subject to surcharge 4) Board Life a) Mismanagement of the ship space due to lack of personnel resulted in huge numbers of passengers crowded in the mid ship atrium with narrow gallery for the shops and the main entertainment lounge. The constant bidirectional traffic, limited practically to one deck, was a nerve wrecking experience every night. Rest of the abundant space with several bars and lounges with seating facilities were empty. Some were not manned or the entertainment was not attractive enough. Additionally, the best places along the corridors were taken up by ship photographers with their backdrops and other utensils. Never seen so many photo stations together before! This crowd feeling and people bumping to each other led frequently to harsh individual reactions. Our cabin was a Robinson's retreat! b) Entertainment: Theater show average with more accent to a naked flesh than to the level of artistic performance. Live music limited to single or max two performers, lot of electronic garbage. c) Inadequate information and solution of the problems, e.g.when a sudden crash of water supply all over the ship happened. 5) Summary We got what we paid for. Try to avoid Costa in future. Read Less

Our previous cruise with Costa, on a Neo ship was extremely disappointing, but we tried it again on the Costa Pacifica. This time Costa was all what we expected and even more. All the complaints we had on the previous cruise with the Costa Neo Classica were take care of. No maintenance during this cruise, all elevators worked all the time!!, dinner was great and options were mentioned on the menu. Staff was great as well as service. And no promotions all the time. Nothing is as bad as being asked during dinner if you want to have the day promotion. (Which we could not get as we had all inclusive). This was the first time I went on a cruise while being in a wheelchair, due to an accident a couple of months ago. Housekeeping staff was great getting me on board and off board in my wheelchair! We had great help during this cruise from all the staf. Costa has won us back as our favorite cruise company, although we will never travel again on a Neo Collection ship!!! Read Less
