The cruise was okay. We scheduled several tours through Costa and the Argostoli Greece was awesome. The next day in Santorini Greece, we bought that tour and when it came to getting our tickets out, the tour had been canceled and no one told us why. It seemed like it made the staff mad that we even asked where our tickets were. They finally told us they had no english guides to take us on tour. We ended up doing that day on our own. When we were in Katakolon Greece the guide told us to come back to our bus at a certain time, we went back and looked all over the place for our bus, we finally found one of the guides which didn't speak good english and she was no help at all, finally another tour guide came along and he got us on another bus that took us back to the ship. The ship left immediately once we boarded. I really think they would have left us in Katakolon. We felt lost thoughout the whole trip. We paid a bunch of money for a tour to Paradise Beach in Mykonos Greece and it was just a very expensive bus ride to the beach. The food was ok, nothing special or anything. We had our best meals on the Islands. Rooms were kept very clean. We loved our cabin steward, he was the best employee on the cruise. We paid for internet service which was terrible, couldn't even load a web page, they charge a fortune for the internet service that was lousy. I bought my husband an internet service, he constantly complained that he couldn't check things on the internet. The service couldn't even load facebook, just a rip off. I will not book with this cruise line again. Read Less

Summary - if your only language is English, it is best to avoid, it is heavily weighted towards Italian, including language, entertainment, food, majority of guests. You Que for almost everything, a lot of items were extra cost and it is not a budget cruise. Quick tips – Avoid Costa if you can only speak English. Carefully select your drinks package to suit, select your evening meal timings to suit (early is 6.45 seated, late is 9.30). Service charge is automatically 10 Euros per person, per night. If you port at Dubrovnik it is KN not Euro in most shops. Do not let your internet package run out, as you can not top it up then, it has to be re-purchased (up to 100 Euros per device) Non of the staff were helpful when it came to being charged or overcharged with anything. Full Review - We booked this cruise as a bit of a last minute choice, we had the itinerary in mind and only had 2 options, Costa or Norwegian Star, I should have read reviews but instead went off photographs, which made the cabins look dated on the Norwegian, so went with Costa. The ship itself is nice, our cabin was ok, although I am not used to cruises, so it felt a bit caravan like, I am unsure if this is across all cruise ships. We upgraded to an unrestricted balcony view room, as we liked the idea of seeing where we were going on a first cruise, this was worth it, as it was great to see it leave and arrive at Ports, or gave us something to look at. Food - Evening set meal times in main restaurant are not ideal, 1st seating is a 6.45 which for some days is too early and 9.30 which by the time you eat, is late. You do not get to switch between meal times, so decide and request before you go. If your going as a couple, have to sit with strangers at this meal, if like me then that is not for you, the choices are buffet or pay for one of the other restaurants. Buffet was very repetitive, you had to que much of the time, but there was a large selection and nice food, it is all self served, including drinks, so there is no service as such. There are set meal times, anything outside of this is charged like mini bar, room service, any other restaurants, including the burger and pizza, which are served from the buffet area and in the same seating area which is a bit of a cop out. Drinks - You can choose a drinks package, be careful which one, as its very labelled on what you can or can’t have, anything above your drinks package is charged. Ours for example was the brandino, which included branded drinks but not bottled water or cocktails/champagne, which apart from the water did not bother us, but as they ask you to not fill water bottles from the vending machines, you have to keep refilling small glasses or pay for the bottles (3 euro). Vending machines only had juice at breakfast time, all other set meals were water, or tea/coffee, alternative drinks are all a visit to the bar for a drink, in which case you have to que up, most of the time. Service - Majority of the staff were friendly, there were a few that because of the language barrier, just didnt want to know. There is no drinks service by the pool, so it’s all ques at the bars. There is no pool side service, although at the main bars inside there is table service. You are automatically charged 10 euros per person per night for a service charge too. Entertainment - Being a cruise ship, there is a fair few bits to do and a good schedule, however it is largely Italian based, including evening, with a large language barrier. Pools - Larger indoor pool, with a screen and more entertainment, does have a sliding roof but doens't seem to get a lot of sun, outside pool is small and full of children, not many sun loungers although this is one of the main areas for bathing, also saw staff taking away towels when people had only just gone in for dinner or drinks, I can understand if they are trying to reserve for hours but this caused arguments. Destinations - This was the best part, I felt you got a good amount of time at most locations, although some are early and some are leave just after mid day, I got to see some lovely locations in a short space of time, whilst resting between locations, this is what it was all about for us. Getting on and off the boat was very organised too. Although they had to change our Mykinos stop to Athens due to bad weather. Read Less

Crosieres as sales agent failed to give us important details such as the programs on the cruise till the last moment. The standard answer was ýou will get it with the ticket' which arrived 72 hours before the trip commenced. By that time all important excursions were already booked by other guests. This means other guests knew how to book excursions but Croiseres as agent never told us despite my repeated asking about it !! We chose and paid for two window view cabins. To our horror we were given cabins 4297 and 4323, both of which had large motors installed outside the windows. Thus the views of these windows were completely blocked !! I have attached the photo for readers quick reference. After boarding the cruise the hospitality desk the staff completely disowned there responsibility to change the cabins. We explained to them that our payment and booking of the cabins were confirmed for open views of the windows. Costa hospitality staff refused to give us alternate cabins. Eventually we had to go for higher category of balcony cabins 7232 and 7235 for which we had to pay extra 500 Euro for each cabin. This was a totally unacceptable behaviour of Costa Staff towards the guests. We felt we have been exploited and cheated by Costa and its agent Croisieres. On the final day of return we were diverted to Trieste port. We repeatedly told Mr Alex, who was coordinating the disembarkation process, to give us a coach connection to the Venice Airport as we had our onward flight to Vienna at 2,45pm on 8th June. He promised us that this has been arranged and he gave us Red B exit baggage tags to confirm the same. When we tried to board the coach for Venice, Costa's staff Mr Fabio, another Costa staff, forced us to take our luggages out of the coach. He showed us a passenger list which didn't include cabins 7232 and 7235 for transfer to Venice airport ! This gives us a feeling that either Alex mislead us throughout promising the coach transfer to Venice airport or Fabio behaved as a very rude staff completely disowning Costa's responsibility to take us to Venice. It must be mentioned that Costá Luminosa was delayed by 3hr and 30 mins while returning and it dropped the customers at Trieste, 150 km away form the contractual disembarkation port of Venice'. Eventually we had a take a taxi from Trieste to Venice airport to catch our flight. We had to spend 300€ for this emergency taxi trip simply because Cosat couldn’t return to Venice port by the scheduled time! On the whole it was a very bad cruise with Costa. ...'Never Cruise again with Costa' is our conclusion. Read Less

We Booked the Costa Fortuna, as we had had such a good cruise on the Costa Pacifica. We had a Large cabin with broken shower, broken heating system and a Leaking tap on sink, Damaged shower curtain, hence water on the floor and the Tv control did not function. Not a good start. We found the food was of poor quality and was always served warm or cold, never a hot meal in a week. Poor selection on salad bar never any tomatoes, bruised and soft fruit, cold toast which was hard, luke warm coffee and tea, not enough staff to clear the tables and we had the same selection of desserts all week. The bar service was a little slow, but only because there were not enough staff. Hospitality was more like Hostility, Refusal to except criticism, refused to give me a Complaint forms and said that they did not have them. They charged us 10 euros each for a shuttle service although we found that the official port shuttles are only 4 euro, when I enquired about shuttles and transfers they never volunteered other methods only their own. The constant harassing for photos, upgrading, selling of different PAY restaurants when in the dining halls or bars even walking the decks. The ship was like a bus, passengers on and off at every port, hence every day when the safety drills were being done all the bars were closed and the tannoy was blasting out for ages. In one hour there were 40 plus announcements. I would say having had 25 plus cruises, this has to be the poorest of them all. I will Never choose Costa again. Read Less

We chose this 23 day cruise from Genoa to Stockholm only to find out 2 weeks before we left that it was in fact 3 separate cruises. This meant we had to change cabins 3 times ! Food was always cold no matter what time you ate. Even if you were there at opening time. Nearly all announcements were in Italian or Spanish. Also entertainment. No such thing as queuing for anything, it is just push and shove wherever you go, especially when going ashore. Several Shore Excursions cancelled because they don't have English speaking guides. Very quick to take your money though. Fight to get it back. Not enough drink waiters at busy times. Cabin crew do the best they can in the time given them but don't expect clean glasses every day because you only get them on the first day, after that you wash them yourselves. Never again!! I’ve only cruises with Carnival and Royal Carribbean and this was my first Mediterranean cruise. I’m used to cruise ships having a huge variety of food available 24/7 all inclusive and tons of entertainment. The food on this ship is an absolute joke. Nothing but the same old pastries every single day for breakfast unless you want to sit in the dining room with extremely slow service. Terrible entertainment. Only a few channels in English in your cabin. The news and stock market. Hardly anyone speaks English, so you can’t make friends. We paid for an ocean view room, but there was a lifeboat in front of our window. There’s a fee to have your room cleaned everyday, per person in the room, even if your room has not been cleaned. They charge an arm and a leg for everything on Costa. The transportation to excursions are very poorly organized. Just don’t bother. Read Less

I choose that cruise, because it was the only one for my date and location. The ship is pretty old, the cabin especially the bed and the shower were very good, but your hear everything from outside ... you have to pay for everything. The worst is the WiFi ...3 GB for 150€... The staff of the ship are very poor - they have to represent a high standard, but themselves have a horrible life on board (also the guest act not very friendly) On the ship we felt like sheep ... there is nobody familiar with you .. you have to stand quiet, as you get told where and when to go... if you want to do your own excursion, they block you, whenever they can... they are trained to sell you and gain extra money the ship is so old, water was dripping from the ceiling during the meals, at the sauna the roof is hanging down...... And on the ship you feel like in prison.............For us never again! Read Less

This was a group trip that I decided to go on. There weren’t many staff members who spoke English well enough and getting answers to many questions was challenging. Many of the European guests were very rude, often pushy and cutting lines during meal times at the buffet, ignoring dress codes and walking in with wet swimsuits and towels or robes to the buffet. There was not much of a variety of meals. Most of the meals consisted of an enormous amount of bread and pastries. Perhaps that is the European way but, we Americans definitely were not accustomed to the food preparations. Several of my companions and I (27 in total) had been on numerous cruises before so this was highly unusual that there wasn’t a larger variety of international food. Also the buffet closed at 830pm nightly so if you were hungry after hours be prepared to pay. It was my birthday week so I was hoping for a great time. Our waiter George in the dining room was often rude, once complaining to us that he wasn’t feeling well and was working longer than he should have been (8 months) and should have been allowed to go home. Really??!! Several times our food was being served so slowly and at lukewarm temperatures might I add, that it was interfering with the next seating and we were asked to leave before the meal was completed. This put a damper on our trip as we had great expectations based on previous cruises. I’m not saying that other cruise lines are without fault but I felt a little put off by the lack of hospitality. I felt a little racial bias when it came to bar service. We were passed over while we arrived at the bar waiting our turn while someone not like me was helped immediately upon arriving at the bar. We had to tell them that we were waiting first.. I will say that we did meet several very nice and interesting people on the cruise. But there is so much more to complain about but why bother. Needless to say I won’t be traveling on Costa cruise line again. Read Less

We chose the cruise for the destinations which we had not been to previously. The embarkation in Valencia was a fiasco and no assistance when entering the ship from Costa staff. Beautiful ship, we had a classic inside cabin which was fine. We did notice that the carpet wasn’t too clean but other than that okay. Went to buffet to get a bite to eat and drink!!! No way, it is only open for short periods of time. Luggage did not arrive in time for us to change for dinner so forced to go back to buffet when it had opened. Wish we had not as food was very unappetising and was the same repeated every day for the whole cruise. Breakfast was a case of a free for all... never any clean bowls or cutlery not to mention a clean table. We gave up some days and went ashore to eat. Dining room okay but not a lot of choice and very rude waiter. Had to pay extra if you wanted a pizza or burger, the two most inexpensive foods!!! Entertainment was just okay and the general service on the ship is poor. All the destinations were good, we did not use ships excursions as they are too expensive. Was very surprised to find that Costa have now made the service charge (tips) 10 euros each per day mandatory. When I questioned this at Reception I was told by a very officious man that I had signed for terms and conditions and so must pay them. I would not mind if the service was good, but it is not so 200 euros for bad service!!! This just cannot be right. We have cruised now for 15 years sometimes twice a year and never have had such a negative feeling about a cruise. Apart from the destinations and the ship is beautiful there was nothing else to praise. It is said that it is relatively easy to get new business but very hard to keep it. Costa don’t seem to realise this, they certainly lost us. Read Less

We choose this sailing because of the itinerary. We are experienced cruisers and have been on over 30 cruises. We had never tried Costa Lines but virtually have sailed with all other cruiselines including Norwegian, Holland America, Carnival, Royal, Princess etc.. We had thought how bad could Costa be? Firstly. when we boarded, our Passports were immediately confiscated When we questioned why we were told that this is common practice for cruiselines for non-Europeans guests. When we advised that it definitely was not common practice for our passports being taken away (as we had been on many other European cruises) Costa advised us that it was mandatory. They insisted on holding our passports in their safe until the end of the cruise. We went on a shore excursion from Savona to Monaco booked through Costa that required our passports. When we asked for them we were told that Costa was having trouble 'finding them,' The tour bus had to wait until they were finally found. There were less than 80 English speaking passengers out of 3,800 passengers on board. Very few of the staff spoke English. As a result almost all of our excursions that were booked with Costa were either cancelled the night before (by way of a note left in our cabin stating that there were not enough English speaking people) or we were forced to go on an excursion where the tour guide spoke either Italian, Spanish or German. We understood very little of the few words in broken English that were said so these excursions were a waste of money since we could not understand a word. When I complained politely to one tour guide her name was Fernanda, that I was sorry but I could not understand (I asked her if it was a Church where we were stopping) she told me in very broken English and in front on the whole group that I had a bad attitude. I honestly felt humiliated so kept quiet for the duration. Most shows were all in Italian or Spanish so the entertainment on board was impossible to enjoy or even understand. The food was not anything that we had ever experienced to on ANY cruiseline. You could not get a slice of Pizza unless you were willing to pay an extra 4.25 Euro per person. (Please see photo) Quite surprising on an Italian cruiseline. There was no coffee available anywhere on the ship from 11am until 4pm unless again you were willing to pay extra. (see photo). There were signs on every coffee machine saying 'Washing Mode' everyday from 11am-4pm. No coffee after dinner in the tdining room either. No ice cream the entire time without paying extra again. My husband ordered the Chicken Parmesan in the Main Formal Dining Room. (Please see picture.) no sauce was on it, the processed cheese was not melted. When we asked for some sauce he was told that was not available. Finally he asked for Ketchup as it was extremely dry and was served packaged Ketchup like one would get at McDonald's. Many of the staff including waiters were very rude and seemed frustrated that we only spoke English and they did not. We will never go on Costa again.. Read Less

The good points are cabin excellent and kept clean. Boarding was efficient and the terminal very clean. Most staff were hard working although if you're English speaking some didn't seem to understand unless basic requests at the table. Entertainment was good, especially the Tenor singer. Wasn't keen on the night the staff provided the entertainment, some were good others pretty mediocre, bit like BGT. The on board dance team were great, providing lessons as well. That we did enjoy. The bad points are: tips being compulsory and not being told upfront, probably in the small print which no-one reads, and not told on booking. Bottled water not included in the drink package, but tap water is ok. The food in the restaurant was poor. Some meals were just ok but mostly it was cold or tepid at best and I even suspect some was leftovers from the buffet, re invented. One particularly unappetising dish was the meat skewers. One piece of lamb or beef (couldn't tell), piece of a sausage and a piece of chicken, in bread crumbs and fried, served with a scoop of mash potato that was grey and lumpy. There was no sauce, so was very dry. We waited nearly half an hour for our starter one night also. Uninspiring desserts also, often something frozen. Better deserts in the buffet area. No gelato ice cream or pizza available unless you pay for it. I expected this at least on the menu as it's an Italian ship. They pick up and drop off at every port, meaning the muster drill is carried out every time and takes place in places where passengers are trying to enjoy themselves, like the Orlav Bar. We had to sit through it or move on. Lots of tannoy speeches in lots of languages, which one time interrupted the dancers who had to jog on the spot until it finished and then try to carry on. The quizzes were Italian based, e.g Italian cities and types of pasta, so unless you were Italian not much chance of winning. I know it's only fun but you like a chance at least. I used the spa and was given a dressing gown which I had to carry from there to my cabin each time, and if I didn't hand it in at the end of the cruise there would be a charge of 79 euros. Also for the pool towels left in our cabin. My husband used the gym, but one day loads of unsupervised children entered and just basically ran about and played on the gym equipment even though a sign said no-one under 16 allowed in there. There was potential for injury. The poor staff were continually pushing a lobster dish for a price, which became a bit tedious. We didn't do any of the shore excursions. So overall I would not choose Costa again. I have cruised with other lines so I do have something to compare it with. This was my 2nd Mediterranean cruise, the previous being with NCL which was a far superior experience. I could go on with more disappointment but I think enough said, I don't want it to become a novel. Read Less

THE best parts of this seven day Geek island cruise, the wonderful food and the great staff in the Dinning room. A special thanks from our family to Natalie the English guest representitive, she went above and beyond her duties to help us. Cabin staff were uninvolved with us , unlike other cruises we have been on. We had an incident were one of our party was locked out of her cabin and after one hour and four people being asked to he[p she arrived at our cabin extremely upset. No apology or explanation was given in an event that was quite traumatic. Again attributaed to the lack of involvment of the cabin staff. We were really disappointed with this cruise line as it advertised itself as not really a family ship and they gave no discounts to children. I find this really hard to believe as this ship was full of families and young children along with strollers everywhere. Beautiful children that we loved but as an older group we were trying to get away from our own families and choose this ship because it stated it was not a family ship. The noise level on deck was unbelievable as all these families joined in the constant loud music and dancing. One could not find a place on deck to sunbathe and read a book or just have a normal conversation without shouting. If you want that do not choose this ship. I would like to thank them for helping us when our baggage was delayed and missed the ship complicated by the change of ports due to bad weather. Costa went out of its way to get our baggage to us. I am unsure if I would use Costa again or believe what they say in their advertising. Read Less

We chose Costa as at the time RCL and NCL were already booked. Unfortunately we could not booked this cruise earlier in the year due to work schedule, etc. According to Costa website is “ Italy’s Finest “ with a slogan of providing every guest with a pleasant experience from our Italian heritage. We have to give kudos to the check in process, ship was clean and elegant, cabin was clean and comfortable with a balcony Now comes the best part : Buffet menu is the same items every single day. Getting a espresso coffee must be done at the bar, and wait in line for it. Getting eggs and bacon (who knows what kind of bacon it was ) it’s another story. By the time you search for the items you want, your food is cold. Of course you might think, why not visit the dining room and enjoy some delicious eggs Benedict! Well, we tried, Egg Benedicts with mayonnaise instead of hollandaise sauce. Waffles?? Imagine a piece of toast with the waffles mark on it and the same selection of items in the buffet just arrange differently, do you want a cup of Italian espresso? Please leave the dining room, find a bar and order it. Walk back to you seat and find your food cold. Or just have a cup of regular coffee and shut up Too much for Italian Costa Hospitality !!! Dining room for dinner - please do not ask for a cocktail before dinner , no no no. Go to the bar and order it. Walk back and seat down. This is not a joke, we had the drink package and the waitress the first dining night saw our cards and said “you are from the USA , you only get water “ wow welcome aboard !!!! Samsara Restaurant - €30 per person to book a more “exquisite dining “ experience. The restaurant is totally outdated. The ship is not However the menu was all seafood. My spouse is allergic to seafood. We asked for a different menu , they brought us the choices from the main dining room. We were ask for an extra €17 upcharge to get a steak. As I ordered the entrees, one of the was lamb chops. To my surprised they have been boiled then braised to give some chard to the meat. The taste ? Terrible. The pool area is very small for a 2500 passenger ship. Entertainment onboard is a bunch of crew members who has no talent and don’t want to do what they have been asked to do To recap, please take RCL or NCL even if the prices are higher. Better food and service, the crew will be more pleasant as they are not onboard a ship for 11 months at a time. Don’t waste your money ! Vacations are important and you work hard to enjoy them. My mother and I traveled on Costa Luminosa from Venice to Greek Islands ( August 24 - September 1). This was our first cruise so we went with an open mind and not really knowing what to expect. We had a balcony room thank goodness I can't imagine a room without a balcony - so that was a positive. Waking up and having a coffee on the balcony was really nice. We are Canadian - English speaking and found language to be a barrier most of the time. Some cruise employees knew English but far and few between and when we needed assistance the limited English on board became an issue. Be prepared to hear a lot of Italian by fellow cruisers and employees - They do announce things in English but it is not very clear and can be easily missed. Overall, I found the Italians to be rude on board - pushy and always butting in line and smoking in your face. The food at the buffet was nothing special. I have stayed at all inclusive resorts for fraction of the cost with better food. Trying to find a seat at the buffet was impossible most days we had to sit with other people and the tables then became crammed. That being said the Taurus restaurant for dinner always had a good and unique selection. Rooms service was good - always cleaned on time and enough room to be comfortable. Drink package - this DOES NOT mean alcohol - the only thing that is included in the base fair is water from the tap..... I did not know this and my travel agent did not advise me of this. Juices, pops, coffee, tea , cappuccino is all extra - if this is something you want I would look into that drink package. A coffee in the morning in the room cost 1.55 Euros..... botttle of water 3.00 Euro. The Ports we traveled to were all unique and different - also know that you can get same excursions on land as what Costa offers for fraction of the cost.... once you get into port there are locals and agencies who have same tours - we never had an issue doing tours this way. Overall I wouldn't travel Costa again due to lack of food quality, language barrier and felt like because we weren't Italian we were looked down upon. Pack your patience if you travel Costa..... All the food tasted ike it was fast food micowaved for the masses. This was probably to motivate you to try the higher end paying restaurants. Crew looked tired due to working 9 months straight without breaks. Cancelled 3 of our tours and dont even think of taking this ship if you are american or english speaking. Very Italian which implies Patience is not in their DNA nor being soft spoken. Get a good set of earplugs if you take thus cruise. Between the screaming children, rude gestures and poor entertainment we were anxious to leave the ship. Highlights were the wonderful tenor they had only perform one night and after the 50th rendition of 'Volare' heard throughout the ship it finally grew on me :) Read Less

We feel we are a good judge of cruises this being our 26th, the Embarkation seem slow but we were on board by 2pm & I will say that this ship is well presented & our Cabin was good & the Public area's very good. My first surprise was the Cabin Steward asked us when he should come to our Cabin morning or evening, we have never been asked that before but we opted for the morning & that was it. No change of towels in the evening or a 'Turn Down' Service. Unfortunately we suspect it was our waiters first week & he was unable to put the knives & forks on our table correctly & took an age. I did complain & the next night he was given extra help. The food was average I would say & not being a pasta lover this restricted my choice of dinner. One of my complaints was that on every other cruise that we have taken water is given to all seated guests at Dinner as a matter of course, NO, not on Costa ships YOU PAY for water. My other main complaints are that at 10.30am after the breakfast period ALL Coffee machines are closed down & you are then unable to get any hot drink at all, except water. Unless you PAY for a coffee/Tea etc. At 9.30pm all food outlets are closed down & you are not even able to get a biscuit or hot Coffee, unless ofcourse you go to one of the PAY outlets & get a pizza or burger!!!! One thing to watch out for & I missed in all the small print, is that the GRATUITIES/SERVICES ARE MANDATORY & so you are unable to amend even if the service is rubbish. The other thing to be warned about with Costa is that the Information Sheet that you get each day is very limited & does not give you sufficient information about the Port of Call. i.e. in Mykonos, Costa charge you 10 Euro per person for a 3 minute Bus ride into 'Town', which including my 5 yr old Granddaughter. I paid for the 6 tickets & the Bus drops you off about 200 yards from the town, not too far I hear you say. But as you got off the Ship in Port the Water Bus (which you walk past to get to the Costa Bus) costs 2 Euro's each & takes you to the middle of the town. No mention of that in the info sheet. Another observation shall I say is that this Ship has a large outdoor screen which on other ships I have been on, show Music Type video's etc.during the day or cartoons which transcend the language barrier, NO, not Costa all it showed during the day was adverts for their Services i.e. Photo Shop etc. Costa with limited warning changed the Disembarkation Port from Venice to Trieste & because, they say, there was 'civil unrest' in the town & therefore not their choice to amend the Port (to avoid compensation claims). We were intending to get off the ship in Venice & get a taxi to the Airport, but as we were getting off in Trieste this necessitated us taking a 2 hour Bus journey back to the Venice Port & then trying to get a taxi through the 'Civil unrest', (as Costa put it) to the Airport for our flight home. My fear was, we may miss the flight so we were forced to purchase Transfers. Costa then charged us 30 Euros each (including 5 yr old) for a Transfer from Trieste to the Venice Airport. No sorry I will NOT being going with Costa ever again. Read Less

We wanted to enjoy some of the sites along the mediterranean. Very disappointed with customer service. They were non attentive and did not respond to our concerns. Wait staff were indifferent and sometimes hostile and arrogant. Disembarkment and dispensal of passports at the end of the cruise was at best chaotic and disorganized. Recommendation save your money and go on an American cruise line. There you are treated like a king. There were no smoking signs everywhere, all of them were ignored and smoking was everywhere. Cabins were OK. Clean and modern. Entertainment was a joke. All shows were in Italian. No attempt was made to have english speaking shows. Over all the cruise was adequate, if you dont mind putting up with shoddy service, arrogant and inattentive food service people and waiters. The gym had 10 treadmills for 4000 travellers. The pool was more like a kiddy pool. See the world in a different cruise line Read Less

This was our 35 th cruise, and our first one in Europe. The ship was beautiful and very clean. However, they served a repetitive, cheap, and limited menu. There were only a few desserts to choose from during dinner, and no coffee served which surprised me even though we bought the beverage package. We had to get coffee at the bar area after dinner. The buffet areas were extremely crowded and a cheap repetitive selection of food. Sit down breakfast was limited and confined to one dining room. In order to eat a nice sit down lunch with a menu you had to pay. When I go on a cruise, I like to sit down elegantly for a breakfast or lunch and be served. My husband and I felt like there was a lack of communication from the captain. On every on of our previous cruises the captain usually gives a daily report from the bridge on weather etc. The entertainment left a lot to be desired. We didn't stay for many of them. After dinner, my husband and I would try to walk on the Promenade deck but couldn't because it was wet due to their early cleaning. Also, there were too many smoking areas on the Promenade Deck so as you walked for exercise you had to breathe in all of that smoke. Finally, we had a room on Deck 9 which was a mistake because the buffet area was above us and we could hear noise all night. After a few nights they finally moved our room to deck 8 which was much better. We will never go on a Costa Cruise again especially in Europe! Read Less

I am Italian and been many times on cruises of different flagship. This one had a good itinerary, so we went for it. There are a lot of positive things and also a lot of negative one.. I try to mention as much as possible and forgive me is something is missing. What I did not like too much. Booking. I was told by a friend to use a certain tour operator specialized. Then I discovered more and everyone was cheaper.. not much but cheaper. And a lot cheaper then costa.(why) Booked 2 rooms one with a small bed for 3 years old boy. Asked tour operator and was told , don’t worry when you arrive there they will change in case , one of the room to be close to the other one. We have been assignated two rooms at the opposite side of the ship.and also booked in two different restaurant and at two different shift... When we arrived the only worries of the staff was, did you registered for the drink , or coffee or any packages?... the room we have to wait just before the departure.. Registering means you will get services and you will pay after a day or so. Result, no room changes possibility, ship was full. ( why I was told in another way?) To get there I had to ask at least ten people with very important uniform as the office was only serviced by 3 persons for 3500 guests... All the other staff we asked informations couldn’t speak any language unless portoghese... ( brasilians coming from cheapest part of the country) and the rest Philippinos which have a good English. I fluently speak more then 5 languages apart mine.. so I believe I can talk with someone. Not to be too long No informations service good enough Waiting for restaurant second shift. Nightmare... hundreds of guests pushing for getting their seat, and all the staff looking to their biz and not been able to give infos... The smell of food of the carpet closer to the restaurant and almost overall was terrible. Dust in the rooms Curtains in the rooms not cleaned. Service in the room basic. As now the tip is included in the salary, so the effort to get rewarded with ( from a minimum tip up) is not more an advantage, so they don’t care much Anymore. Bed sheets, old and badly pressed, changed maybe every tree dayS or more. All in the ship is for making money. Wherever you stay you can only spend money. Fantastic drink service. You order get your card before the order you have to pay, and finally , at staff leisure you get your drink. Waited for a bottle of wine ordered and payed at the start of dinner and got when we finished the dinner with the sweets.. asked few times and answer was is coming... Same as for drinks aperitives , we ordered 4 spritz and a beer, at 5 pm. Supposed to get peanuts with it. ( for chips you have to pay, but we don’t eat fried things) asked many times, payed appx 50/60 us , even spoken with food and beverage manager, but never got the peanuts, the waiter didn’t care... and we really didn’t want to get drunk at 5 pm.... Thanks Buffet If you don’t like to wait , you can always eat at the buffet restaurant. Fantastic. Only problem is too many people and not so clean. So you have to queue everywhere and think there are so many people of different countries, and different kind of behavior... Disaster Plus they close ever so quick, basically your have very short time to eat . Rooms service or breakfast service you pay, before bkf was free in the room. Table, they sit people as they come, before at least was a lot of questions in order to combine same languages or areas or interests... Ship was cleaned perfectly only the last day or before last, because where a meeting of the oldest traveling agent of costa or so. You would have noticed the difference, everything was like new. Last negative, ship is not old but, bed sheets, chairs , carpet etchas got to be changed more. Even the granit or marble in the floor, greasy , not cleaned with proper products, No more the midnight sweets buffet, just a small and quick self service.... Overall poor and cheaply done, compared with few years before and other companies. Positive, Good music entertainment Good kids entertainment Sometimes evening surprise by dinner with a bit of music.. Good food menu , but the best is written , you have to pay ...( this is not positive) better to have special payment restaurant with exposed menu and with prices) Good itinerary, unfortunately sometimes too short Overall not satisfied . You pay quite a lot for what you get, and considering the service cleaness , etc, no worth for the money. Ps I can afford to pay, just extras I payed 2k . So I don t mind . I wish I had a better service. Definitely I will try other companies for the next cruise.. Hope you will find it better. Read Less

When arriving on the ship there was a lot of confusion and our rooms were not ready. Once getting into our rooms it took another 2 hours for my bag to arrive. There was many things that were not included on this cruise which is not stated on the website. The entertainment was really bad. I have been on 3 cruises before this one and could not believe how boring the entertainment was. For good entertainment and value for money I would go on the Royal Caribbean again. I have been on the Royal Caribbean 3 times now and I can never fault it. There was not much to do for the children and the entertainment during the day was very boring. The food was also bad. When ordering meals you were unsure of what each one was and it would come out looking like it was chucked on the plate. When waiting to get a drink it took forever to find someone to order. Most of the time we just gave up and didn't order any drinks. I went on the cruise with my sister and her family and having them for company was good. It is a good cruise if you just want to relax as there isn't much happening when you are on the boat. Read Less

I’m not saying I regret taking this Costa Cruise. It was cheap and reviews indicated it wouldn’t have much in terms of amenities or decent food. It also had the smallest cruise room we’ve ever stayed in. All of that aside, the cruise cake with free drinks, good service, and a great international flair. Our 12 abs 14 year olds found enough to do, and we sailed for the ports anyway. It was ok. Would I sail Costa again if the price is right ... yes I would. Would I recommend it to others? If you’re ok with Carnival and aren’t sailing for the food, then yes. Would I recommend it for families? I’d say no if you have young children. There wasn’t much for them on this ship. I’m of the mindset that fun can be had anywhere, and our party of 7 - 2 seniors, 3 adults, and 2 teens - all had a good time. Read Less

The furnishings in the cabin looked well used. The ship is getting old but it is still seaworthy. The staff gave conflicting answers to simple questions asked. A inexpensive Wi-Fi program was offered to counter the expensive charges on regular internet programs. Unfortunately this program was useless as you could not get your emails. Some of the water dispensers in the buffet lines did not work and you could not fill water bottles. Charges for water for your room was expensive. Wrist bands were not used so filling out paperwork for food/drink etc was a common issue. Many of the buffet locations were closed down at various times which forces you to scramble to find open stations. Elevators very slow. Line ups occurred frequently at the front desk. The emergency muster was in disarray and not informative or reaffirming. Wine selection was limited. With a few changes I feel this ship could be a good sail. Read Less

My first cruise and it did not scare me off from going on others. It did however cement our resolve never to cruise with Costa again. A bedlam of constant noise, either from the clientele (if you do not enjoy Italian style of communications... don't go! Just sayin!) or from the very frequent announcements. If if wasn't the daily safety drill (yes, this cruise is a rolling cruise... peep embark and disembark on every port, you can imagine the impact on atmosphere on board, very unsettled, felt like a ferry most days) it was crew only announcements (what an actual?) or super super bingo bingo et al entertainment war cries. There is no area for quiet chilling and since no blankets were provided relaxing on the deck with a book was not possible. Only place to get some peace would have been our cabin.... nearly lost my mind on the at sea day of the cruise! Food was a mixed bag. I'm not going to dwell on the buffet horrors, the food was mediocre (and mostly cold) at best, the brutish feeding frenzy of the clientele was too much for me to deal with but luckily there was the sit down option. Dinners in Fiorentina were the highlights of our cruise. The early seating was the most peace we found on our cruise and the food was pretty good too! Unbelievably coffee and tea were not available freely outside breakfast and the 4-5pm afternoon snack time. Entertainment in the main theater was on amateurish side (apart from last night, the Russian acrobat duo was proper good!) and being amused by enthusiastic ball room dancing civilians can only keep me amused me so long. Staff were OK, we didn't really get involved with demanding anything from them... kind of gave up on expecting anything special upon realization at what kind of cruise this was. Gym was full of loud teens despite no under 16 should have been allowed. I saw one bambino stood on a table by the water machines, no one, not parents nor the staff batted an eyelid. A lot of people were making piles of sandwiches from breakfast tables to have later, that kind of crowd...! The one Costa 'excursion' we took was the coach only to Rome from Civitavecchia: Departure from port was delayed by 45 mins due to broken down coach, 15 mins were added in Rome..... no apologies, no gestures of anything (customer service does not come naturally from this lot!). Both ways our driver (different) was busy one-hand driving down motorway whilst happily (and, typically for region, loudly chatting on his mobile phone). On our way back our guide (a German) lady joined in on the act. I'm certain I'm not alone in NOT enjoying listening to unnecessary mobile conversations of others... not to mention the safety aspect! To recap: Future cruises will not be on Costa. I do not get my kicks from being sleep deprived and successful holidays are not made of feelings of claustrophobia, not to me anyway. If you enjoy your cruise as an opportunity to travel between cities in style and comfort, whilst being entertained, Costa is not for you. In fact, I'm a rather unclear as to whom the Costa experience is aimed at! Read Less

So to tell the story, my father and I hired a travel agent last minute to make a trip to Spain for New Years. We decided to go for a cruise that goes to some of the Italian coastal cities, so based on our budget, we went with Coastal Diadema. Checking in and getting into our cabin was fairly easy and the New Years celebration was a lot of fun since you could go to different areas in the cruise with different music genres. I very much enjoyed that. Once the cruise departed from the coast, that's when trouble started coming. We had booked a tour in Rome for the Sistine Chapel in Spanish two weeks prior to the trip. They notified us to go to the tour offices and we assumed it was to confirm the tour. It was to tell us that they cancelled it. First of all, the language barrier was an issue with the staff because most of them were Italian and their understanding of other languages was a huge stress for us; they could not understand us and it was the same vice versa. They were not helpful when it came to trying to book us another tour. We had to constantly be going to their offices to see if we could fix the situation but we kept getting responded with "I don't know"s; as in "I dont know what we have" and "I dont know what to do". We had to schedule with their manager in order to have anything done who thankfully fixed the situation. This was in a span of three days. Oh! They also cancelled our tour in Savona, Italy as well. Apparently they have a lot of problems reaching the minimum amount of people for the tours. So my advice, book outside the ship. This agency is too unreliable. Speaking of bad service, most of the staff were cold and robotic when it came to customer service. Just overall rude. We honestly thought it was a culture thing because even a lot of the tourists were rude as well. The cruise. was. dirty. As in there was an issue with the ventilation and cleanliness of the cabins, to the point that HALF OF THE CRUISE GOT SICK. Including me and my father. We both had fever and horrible coughs for days. Could barely sleep. We both had to go to the emergency clinic where we found out how many people were actually sick. It was only after we keep leaving the cruise when we began feeling better. Entertainment was pretty enjoyable. I liked the fact that you had bands and singers in different parts of the cruise singing various languages and genres, so you had a lot of variety. There were activities that I did not find family friendly, specially for a "family" cruise, but still enjoyable. The breakfast food was horrible. Anything bread was harder than a rock and they only serve you fruits. If you had eggs they were always underdone and tasteless. The buffet for lunch and dinner were pretty good tho. Including the food from the restaurants. Pizza is delicious, Samsara restaurant was good, hamburgers are great. Honestly, AVOID the dining at all cost. If you have a scheduled time to go to a restaurant for dining, just dont go. The food has literally no flavor. The buffet is soooo much better. Honestly, no. I would not go again. Not at all. I called Costa Cruise in Miami to find out information before getting on the ship regarding payments onboard and other pre boarding questions. Each question was answered incorrectly and when we boarded we were in for many surprises. On the first night of the cruise, were were FORCED to purchase a drink package for each of our three children on the ship who were staying in their own cabin. Two were full alcohol and the third was the soda/water package. On the second morning of the cruise one of our kids had a few bites on his neck. The next day another child had several bites on his stomach. That child had seen and killed a bug on his brother's bed. We immediately reported the incident to the Hospitality desk. They took all the kids clothes and luggage and washed them and sent the kids to the ships hospital where they proceeded to give a cream treatment to the child that had more bites. Turned out that child was allergic to the detergent used on the ship and had to return a second time to the hospital where he received a shot of steroids and more medication. From there the trip went downhill and as much as the staff thought they were doing for us to make this right, anything that was done was more to benefit Costa Cruise Lines. Since child number 2 was not able to use his drink package while on the medication the other one that is old enough did not drink either(its not fun to drink alone). The ship would not refund all the drink packages they forced us to purchase, only the one for the child on the medication. The first dining room could not accommodate the five of us at the same table so we had to find the maitre d' for the second night to change our dining option since its the one week per year we get to spend together. They gave us the second seating in the dining room which was 9:00pm. The service was so slow we did not finish dinner until almost midnight. We then decided to try the anytime dining. Because we changed our dining option after the first night, we were charged per person for the change. The restaurant manager couldn't have been nicer though and the rest of the cruise did not charge for the change. The food on the ship was very mediocre and to eat gluten free anything as my diet requires, the only option I was given was to eat in the dining room. None of the buffets during the day or even room service has gluten free from what I was told. Basically I had one meal per day! Having adult children, they were looking for nighttime entertainment in the disco or other areas of the ship. The disco had 13-17 year olds enjoying their time leaving our children feeling uncomfortable to be in the same disco. They were very underwhelmed having very little 21-25 adult activity. The communication was poor across the board. We had to search for ourselves to get any information about the ships activities or entertainment. We felt as though we were a very unwelcomed group of travelers as well as other travelers that fit our profile, we all felt the same way. The overall attitude of the staff was disinterested in doing anything to work when all we were looking for was help. The rolling of their eyes when we approached them and poor bodily language was a reinforcement of their behaviors. This is not a ship we would recommend to any of our peers! Read Less
