SO MUCH BETTER than expected

Review for a Mediterranean Cruise on Costa Smeralda

This ship deserves MUCH better reviews than it’s getting. The food and entertainment knock it down from a 5 to 4. Us: 30-60 years of age Cruise date: February 2020 Decor: This is the most beautiful and trendy ship I’ve been on. Tons of attention to detail. I loved the design. Amazing seating areas - there are hammocks, and little tucked away areas, sunbeds, loungers, plush seating, ...

The ship is beautiful. New, lots of bars, modern and clean. Plus the port stop offs are lovely. Plenty of time to walk around. We do recommend purchasing shuttle buses at the port information desks rather than on ship as way cheaper. No need to pay for excursions, just the shuttle buses into the cities needed and you can find your own way around. The staff work hard and are helpful. Our room ...

Probably the worst designed ship currently at sea today.

7 night Med cruise 27/01/2019-03/02/2020. (Rated poor to low in all areas). If this ship was to take the company in a new direction, it failed miserably! This tasteless floating cafeteria offers no signs of elegance or class. Areas of both inside and deck space have been greatly compromised by the huge amount of cabins and with little or no signage it is very difficult to navigate. The ...

Worst Cruise I've Been On

Horrible staff. Horrible Rules. Horrible Ship. 1. 1. Don't expect to drink any water on board without paying. We found one, YES 1, free tap water on the entire ship. Located on deck 8 in the buffet area. But you aren't allowed to leave the buffet area with any food or drinks to any time you are thirsty plan on hiking up to deck 8, guzzling as much water as you can, and hope you aren't thirsty ...

Costa Smeralda Not as Expected

This 3 week old ship was a disappointment compared to Costa Diadema (commenced service 2014) and other older Costa ships I’ve cruised on. The design emphasis was over the top. The furniture for example, whilst I’m sure was deigned by ‘top’ trendy designers, mostly lacked ordinary functionality - uncomfortable, too low, didn’t fit the average person. Some chairs were so heavy you could hardly ...

When I think of Costa Smeralda I’m drawn to Longfellow’s Poem, “The Little Girl” There was a little girl, And she had a little curl Right in the middle of her forehead, When she was good she was very, very good, And when she was bad she was horrid. Those last two lines perfectly sum up Smeralda, making this an incredibly difficult review to write. The cruise was a one week, ...

Terrible Experience and Service

In comparison to previous cruises I’ve taken I have never seen people board/disembark at every port. This created lots of confusion throughout the cruise and during this period you were not allowed to purchase food or snacks during the safety drill that occurred everyday with the exception of one sea day. I was in a party of 12 with 4 of them being first time cruisers. I respect all cultures but ...

It's a lovely ship and service, cleanliness and food are just alright. You shouldn't complain. You may not like the food, but it is well cooked and in copious quantities. Unfortunately, we were hit several times by toxic paint fumes in our cabin, which were so powerful that we couldn't be there. Our steward Adi was just quite real and service minded. Our butler could learn a lot from ...
