My wife really enjoyed the shows performed by the Italian / western artists and paid extra to watch the late night show. My boy liked the play group. There were 136 children in the group and the staff appeared overwhelmed. All later activities required the participation of a parent. The cruise should have allocated more staff to take care of the children so the parents could go and play, even for an hour. I liked the ship tour. The cruise app worked very well on my Android phone. I could use the app to call the phone of my room. But it didn't work on my wife's iPhone. The cruise appeared to provide free data occasionally. I did subscribe to the cruise data plan, however. The sea between Naha and Taiwan was very rough and once the lift I rode stopped abruptly for a few seconds because the ship tilted too much. Luckily the ship crossed the sea at night but I still felt the ship went up and down 10 feet when lying on my bed for a few hours. On the first day in Naha we disembarked at 12 noon. We went to Shuri Castle, Urasoe Dai Park, and Kokusai Doori. I wanted to go to Hacksaw Ridge, which is 30 mins hike from the Urasoe Dai Park, but we spent too much time in the playground and it was getting dark so we skipped the Ridge. On the second day we disembarked at 10am and went to Omoromachi. We briefly visited Okinawa Prefectural Museum, and went to the supermarket to purchase some food and cookies. The ship would leave at 12:30 noon so we were in a hurry. The plug of the bathroom sink stuck. I called the operator at 2am and a repairman arrived in 10 minutes to fix it We were fortunate to have this Italian cruise experience. I have heard the Fortuna is heading back to Europe in 2019. We live in Hong Kong and boarded the ship heading to Naha at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. The ship stopped at Naha for two days then sailed back to Hong Kong. We spent our 2017 Christmas Day on the ship. See my pictures. They worth thousands words I guess. Read Less

Cruise price was attractive, probably in collaboration with one of the larger travel agency in Hong Kong. However, the quality of the cruise was poor. Food: not much selection even the salad section, dressing unlike what you normally would have, very watery. Food quality is quite low. Pizza with not much topping or dressing. On first day of cruise, it was like a war zone, people have to line up a long time outside the restaurant. Cabin: small compared to other cruise lines. Services: Cabin - good, Restaurant: Very poor. Ship took more passengers than it can handle, thus, not enough tables for guests. Always have to wait a long time for table, waiter not helpful. Bus boy will not clean table and very rude. Too many bar people in the restaurant to try to sell drinks (with not much success) while there is not enough waiters and bus boy. Entertainment: OK (cater to Hong Kong Chinese with Sky Band singing Chinese songs) Embarkation: wait time and processing not as efficient as other cruise lines. Pier change at one port leading to use of shuttle,so excursion time cut down and more expensive transportation costs for guests. Public Rooms/Bar Area: Too small to handle large crowds. Excursions: You can do the same at much less especially if you can find people to carpool with. Read Less

It was Chinese New Year holiday and we wanted to go somewhere without the hassle of flying. This cruise had a good itinerary where we cruised to Ishigaki and Okinawa. Food: Never have high expectation of food on the cruise and I would say their food was decent. The pizza bar with freshly made was good though. Having an outdoor patio lunch while sailing back into Victoria harbor was one of the highlights of the trip. For breakfast, you get a choice to go to the dinning room or at the buffet area. Most people would like to go to the buffet area which is at the top deck with floor to ceiling windows but the area is definitely too small and you need to wait for empty tables or just each standing up. One day they had a 2-4-1 beer promotion but the waiters had no clue about it. I asked them to check and they still came back not knowing about it and asked me where I got the information. I told them it was from their daily newsletter but they still couldn't figure it out. Finally, I had to go to the restaurant entrance, grab a copy of the newsletter and show them. Some service eh! Night shows: The nightly shows were good. Different shows for each night so we could go to see all of them without feeling bored. The tenor at one of the lounges was awesome. On-board entertainment: Limited games or classes during daytime and they don't welcome kids to join. This is rather strange as I thought cruise lines are supposed to be family friendly. The cooking demonstration was a joke! The night dances was OK and teh crew tried to create good atmosphere but the dance area is small and tight. Public area: The design of this boat is definitely outdated. Public toilets were limited and small. To make it worst, the plumbing did not work in some of them and you can imagine how horrible they came to be. In Ishigaki, disembarkation was delayed and people were stuck in one of the lounges, the toilet cleanliness was terrible. On the last day, also noticed one of the toilets near the basketball court cracked in the bottom with water leaking out!!! Gym: Forget it, it was tiny and with old equipment. Indoor pool: more like a tub. Outdoor: cannot really use it given the season we are travelling in. Excursions: Several HK travel agents set up counters for excursions, I guess that's the business model. We feel that we can go on our own so did not join any of them. In Ishigaki, I booked a car and the company picked us up just outside the pier. Car rental is really cheap (3,000 yen) and the streets are quiet and easy to drive with a GPS. It was too bad that we went during off-season so when we drove to one of the famous restaurants for Ishigaki beef, it was not opened. Then we went to one of the local places for all-you-can-eat BBQ and about an hour into the lunch, the shop had a power interruption. Even though the power came back later but the restaurant decided to refund the money to every customers and the restaurant was full, I wanted to leave them a good tip but they refused to accept. I really feel the Japanese sincerity and hospitality! In Okinawa, disembarkation was much smoother as don't need to go through immigration again. We took a taxi to the Outlet Mall ASHIBINAA and had great shopping there. Then taxi back to city center and wonder around in International Street. Room: The ship was renovated a year or two ago so the room is decent if a bit small. We have an inner cabin. All-in-all, the cruise was OK, just bear in mind that it is a ship with old design so even after renovation, the amenities and space could not be compared with newer ships. But if you find a good deal on it, it is still an enjoyable cruise. Read Less

This is the first time travel in a cruise, I really enjoy these days! When I get on the cruise, every staffs are very nice with smile and direct us to the cabin clearly. I went there with my boyfriend. Although the cabin is not very big, it is clean and comfortable like a tiny hotel. We need to gather in the hall first to learn basic survival knowledge. Then we went to have our buffet dinner. It is convenience that we only bring our room card to record all our expenses. The buffet did not have much choice but taste good. We went to the deck after dinner. The wind was tender and full of stars on the sky. How a romantic night for us! It is quite difficult to see this beautiful sky in urban city now. If we didn’t get on the boat, we will miss it! The next day we enjoy breakfast in room, it came fast in warm temperature, nice! Then we swam in pool with sunshine, so relaxing! I also had a spa, it was relaxed. The staffs were considerate of my body with soft message and my boyfriend went to gym, he told me the fitness center was big. They played music inside and serve with towel, cool water to all guests. We met at the function hall, there was a show tonight, the MC was funny drove everyone being crazy and happy. The disco and casino opened until late night, we have so much fun inside! We met a young couple as well. They have come twice already and also agreed the service of Costa was good, very suitable for them to spend their holiday here. When we arrived on Malaysia, we took few hours to land on the beach. Sunset on beach was stunning! We ate something before back to cruise if we can stay longer, that’s must be prefect! It is really an enjoyable trip for us to escape from the busy city. The staff’s services are good and won’t feel boring or dull during the trip. Costa brings me a memorable cruise travel. I will come back when I feel tired again. Read Less

I have a wonderful trip with my wife and kids during Chinese New Year this year. Our family went on Costa Victoria’s New Year Cruise which had many festive events planned out. Due to unforeseen circumstances that happened at home, my family could not celebrate it back in Hongkong, thus we decided to travel out to spend this one-of-kind New Year in a different way. And I’m glad we did it. My sons are big eaters like me, and we had the chance to eat non-stop onboard. The pizza onboard was marvelous! And the CNY dinner reminds us the festive feelings of Chinese New Year, despite being on the waters. There were little dim sum, lou hei… and I didn’t expected to have so much chinese traditional dishes onboard an Italian ship, I’m quite surprised! Aside to activities, there were many rowdy activities such as dancing and performances. Though none of my family are fans of the special-feature HK singer, we did enjoy all the night-time shows, fun to watch the MJ impersonator perform and other Italian shows. If you have not been onboard Costa Victoria before and deciding if you should take this cruise, here are some points that you’d find useful in making your decision: Costa App: Allows you to communicate with guests onboard. It is free being able to communicate with each other especially when you have a big group on board, is very crucial Rooms: The rooms are cleaned everyday and choosing a room with a balcony is highly recommended. Nothing beats waking up to the serenity of the sea. The hygiene and cleanliness is alright. The only gripe is that the bathroom is too small! Activities: There will be a info sheet placed inside your room before the start of each day, and there is hardly an hour where there is no activity going on. The cruise is constantly busy with an event, so there is definitely no worry about getting bored or dull. Read Less

Thank you Costa Victoria for organizing the best cruise trip for me and my family over Chinese New Year! To all the reviews here, I was quite shocked to read about the negatives comments because I feel that the Costa Victoria crew are the best and I will like to praise them for their thoughtful and wonderful service. My cruise departed from Hongkong and travelled to Sanya and Danang and Halong Bay. The destinations that the cruise chose were extremely perfect travel points and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I have not travelled to Vietnam before so the expedition showcased the country really well and Halong Bay was amazingly beautiful! One of the highlights of the trip was definitely being able to watch a HK star, Louis Cheung perform! I was thrilled that Costa invited him to perform on stage. Watching him sing and playing games with audience in the theater was fun! and together with the CNY atmosphere, I knew I will never have such an experience any where else. Also, I am impressed with how Costa and the travel agent planned the cruise’ activities, inviting Louis to perform, selecting beautiful destination spots, and also organizing a special Chinese new year dinner. It was definitely a pleasure to be able to all kinds of food (From Italian cuisine to Chinese dishes) as well as enjoy the shows and spend it overseas. Definitely beats the hustle and bustle of the city life especially since its so chaotic back in HK during the festive celebration. My family and I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you Costa for being such a wonderful host, I hope everyone will support costa!   Read Less

The Ship: Romantica is quite old and dated. It is clean enough on first glance, but quite tired looking. No effort at all has been made to beautify it anywhere. There are no green potplants on the decks outside the lifts. There are no bright paintings or art work on the walls anywhere the ship is basic and provided the means to get from port to port but not much else. We chose this cruise for the ports of call. We would not travel on Costa again. We found that the drinks were expensive, particularly for the southern hemisphere passengers as it was all charged in Euro. A can of coke was 2.7Euro!! Cabin: - Our cabin was on deck 4 and an outside cabin. It was quite roomy with plenty of storage space. The bed was hard and just OK but the mattress really needed to be renewed. It was sagging. The furnishings were once again adequate, but needed to be renewed. The ensuite was clean and a good size. The shower is on an extension hose and ours would not stay upright on the holder. Once the cabin steward knew that it was broken he got a maintenance person to come and fix it immediately. Our Cabin Steward - was Fillipino and he was great. I have read other reviews and they all commend the hardworking cabin staff and I do too. Ours was exceptional. I have heard and read on Cruise Critic that the cabin staff have had a pay CUT recently and they don't get paid the prepaid gratuties that we and I am sure many other passengers would have prepaid. This is unacceptable by Costa and should not be permitted, but unfortunately the cabin staff can't do anything about it as they need the jobs and any complaints mean they would nothave a job. Disgusting and greedy of Costa and something needs to be done about it. Our young cabin steward was wonderful. He was hard working and did longhours. He always had time to stop and talk to us and always a ready smile. My regret it that we could not do anything about ensuring his "tips" would be paid to him by Costa. The certainly work very hard and deserve and by rights should be given this money. Dining Staff: we had a wonderful Chinese waitress in the evenings and she was very good, my only criticism is that as we were first sitting the staff was under pressure to get us out of the dining room as quickly as possible to they could set up for the second sitting passengers. The food was just OK...... very monotonous afer a week. On this ship you can only eat dinner in the formal dining room. It would have been good to have the buffet offering food at night too as we and others didn't want to eat formally every night. The lunch was served in the buffet and probably the best food of the day, although getting it was difficult lining up like at a "Coles" Cafe trying to fill our plates along with all the other passengers and people butting in. Not good at all. Breakfast was also served in the buffet and once again a struggle to get to the buffet and get the food and then even more difficult to navigate through the queues to find a table. The aisles are far too narrow to walk down with everyone waiting to try and get their food and the ship staff trying to replenish the food too. The ONLY FREE thing on the ship was the "cold" water, Even this was never cold, usually very hot actually and oneneeded to add the ice from the same machine to get the water cold. We filled up our drink bottles at the water machine every night. There are about 5 machines and all of them are in the buffet on Deck 8.!!! Why don't they have them scattered around the ship. No sense really. SMOKING: - this was permitted everywhere it seemed. Certainly the Costa staff did nothing to discourage it and people were even smoking cigars and pipes!!!! The main lounge on Deck 8 was always smokey and stunk as did most of the corridors on the ship. The trouble with smokers is they don't care if you don't like it!!! and they certainly made no efforts them selves to be courteous about where they smoked. It was disgusting. Even out at breakfast smoke was puffed into people's faces. Air conditioning: - it was almost non existent in the cabin where it was really needed at night to try and get a good sleep. Other parts of the ship it was freezing cold. Swimming decks: - the pools were nice and warm but there was very little shade for passengers and Costa staff would just come and take the sun umbrellas down if a little breeze blew!!!! There was no consideration given to the passengers at all. Entertainment: - was uninteresting and unispiring apart from one show where there was a tumbling act and a comedian which was from USA. Apart from this the Costa dancers and singers worked hard, but it was all done on the cheap. Costa Officers: These are mostly Italian and could care less about pleasihg the passengers. No effort was made to help even when help was asked for. The officers are just full of their own self importance and no politeness in them at all. Entertainment Crew: these were young, loud and immature. They took no consideration of the age group of this cruise which i would estimate to be on average 55 - 65 yrs of age. The Entertainment crew were very young and just came out and taught the ChaCha or Samba every day for 2 weeks..... no variation.... It was boring. The young woman running the quiz's had a very strong Italian accent and her speaking was sometimes undecipherable, she could care less!!! Even when quite a few English speaking passengers said they coudn't understand her well, she just shrugged her sholders, looked down her nose at us and walked away. Not good customer service at all and yet another bad critisism of the ship and the crew. The meanness and penny pinching of Costa was also shown at the quiz times too, when they would not even give each winning team a small prize. They would only give one prize to one person and to get that if there was more than 1 winning team a member from each team had to throw a dice and the highest number won!!! I am not talkingabout expensive prizes either. Just cheap Costa writing notebooks, or a recycle bag jst big enought to hold a block of chocolate. We are not talking about expensive giveaways here. They were cheap and nasty prizes and the Costa meanness really showed. The ports we went to were great. We did not take any organised tours from the ship as they were expensive even in Euro. We would find a taxi on the wharf or outside the gates and after bartering we would agree on a price for the whole day and the taxi took us in airconditioned comfort to all the places the tours went to, but we didn't have to wait for the slow tour person or sit on an uncomfortable unairconditioned bus as one tour had to in Da Nang. I strongly recommend that you taxi everywhere it is cheaper and much more leisurely. Manila is so dirty and so many young homeless people and slums. It was disgusting place and made me very sad to see so many young children out on the streets begging for money. Filty place where nothing looks to be finished. The roads are rough and potholed, thefootpaths was unfinished and dusty and dirts. Everyone should see this country I think and then they would realise how lucky they are to live in relative comfort and have the oney to holiday from time to time. I now understand why Fillipino's work overseas. Even tho many of them are maids in Arab countries and poorly paid it would be preferable to the miserable brokenlives they would endure in their home country. I feel very sorry for the inhabitants of Manila. It was a dump. Sabbah was great and different again. Lots of slum houses and rubbish everywhere, so unkept, just like Maniala but not quite as bad. Brunei was great, clean and tidy but the port is about a 40 minute drive to the city. You need to get a taxi here and go to the Water Village. this is something else andwell worth the visit. Amazing place. Singapore is wonderful. Great people, great shopping, great sights too. Clean and orderly and a pleasure to be there. Ho Chi Minh was chaotic but exciting too. Loved Vietnam and its people, lots of poor people too and very untidy place with lots of rubbish but not nearly as bad as Manila. Da Nang was great and we also took a taxi to Hoi Ahn a wonderful little vietnamese village, no cars inthe streets and a very different place to visit. Would like to go back to Da Nang and really see the place. Loved China Beach there too. In 10 years time it will be full of resort type hotels as they were all being built already. Overall I would not recommend Costa Cruising to anyone. It was just a very basic cruise, but the price we paid was not basic and certainly all the prices on board were expensive. The shops on board are a waste of time. only 2shops. One of jewellery the other sold bags, cigarettes, cruise t-shirts and a few blingly tops and pashminas but nothing really to even be bothered buying. Very disappointing cruise over all. Arrogant main staff and overworked and underpaid cabin staff. Wake up Costa and start paying your staff what they deserve. You know that they can't fight for themselves as Costa would just put them off so the staff are stuck and obviously Costa don't want passengers to know that staff are not getting their gratutities. Don't go Costa but do go the the ports, each and everyone was different and really worth the visit. Read Less
