Chose this cruise due to outstanding places, visiting Singapore, Bangkok, Khuala Lampur, Phuket, Langkawi, Penang, Ko Samui, Sinahoukville. All were great places to visit with lots of temple, artifact, great people and fabulous food. Best of all, Bangkok. A city so vibrant, lots of cafes and restaurant in every corner with so many dishes to choose from, its an unbelievable city. Next on the list is of course Singapore, so clean, friendly, cosmopolitan and a bit on the expensive side. Phuket was not that great, of course if you like athmosphere towns like Ibiza or Ayia Napa full of restaurants and bars and night clubs, than Phuket its for you. Had a nice meal in a hotel restaurant and overall was good. Local dishes were great! Prawns in quantity and abundance. Cambodia was a let down, I wonder what the local government is doing about the state of the city. After all they suffer, the population demand and expect better, tourist are flocking into the city, money is coming in, but the total structure is way below poverty line. Feel very sorry for the locals. The ship (Costa Fortuna) was a bit of let down, cabin was good and spacious, restaurant were mediocre, buffet very crowde as expected due to lay out. Far too many DONT for a crusie liner, hence the heading of cutting services. Far too many member of the catering team in the buffet area, speak other language execpt the language to connetc with guest. Meaning, if a waiter is from Indonesia or the Philippines, they continually speak own language aloud in public areas. Denying English Breakfast Tea at breakfast time, afternoon tea time and any other time, contrary to other company in the market, which tea is always welcome and available. Some guests were asking for lemon for the tea, and were told no more lemon. Run out of Prosecco on board, run out of sparkling water with 5 day to end the cruise. In the restaurant, lots of supervisory member walk around the floor, including the Manager, but none interact with guest in checking that food is appreciated and of the standard required, in few occasion had to send back the dinner due to food being cold. Felt sorry for the waiter, but after all I paid for a service that didnt get accordingly! Have another cruise booked with Costa in March, and have lots of concern of fulfillment and pleasure. Worst of all, at the end of the cruise, you are lumped with a bill of 200 euro for service charge which the company say its compulsory making the total of cruise much higher than expected. Surely this is against the law in the UK. Read Less

Costa Fortuna Cruise max passenger capacity is 3,200 and thus not that huge to handle with around 1,100 crew members. Ship layout easy to understand and staff very easy to handle your technical or hospitality issues. 98% of the crew do their job with love and passion and are well trained to handle difficult demanding passengers . I recommend 1 crew from the bar Vietnamese Ngoc Tuan Vo . The food variety is truly huge with beef turkey fish pastas salads fruits . Their deserts are poor . Healthy and vegetarian options available too . Spa is very overpriced . The many jacuzzi are the best most powerful you can imagine. Clean and hygienic too . Pools with waves are interesting. Slide always closed despite good weather . Passengers onboard are polite and understand the rules . Internet connection is ok , especially with the cheap package" social internet package ". Read Less

Embarkation from Marina Bay Cruise Centre was a breeze. There was sufficient manpower to direct the guests. They took notice of guests with young children or aged guests. We took 15min to board since we brought along aged parents. HOWEVER, disembarkation at the same port at the end of the cruise was a nightmare because 2000 guests were leaving at the same time. Despite being assigned staggered disembarkation timings, it was one big pandemonium at the exit points. We were assigned the first group for disembarkation but the meeting point was already congested. So, we were sandwiched for an hour like in a subway peak hour carriage. Disembarkation at other ports were uneventful.I wished we were offered a cold drink or a cold towel though. All guests should note, the check-in luggage porters can only accomodate suitcase/trolley luggages. Sports utility bags, shopping bags, backpacks are out. I think guests who are travelling alone will appreciate the availability of single cabins, considerate dining arrangements of table for twos at the buffet corner, as well as in the restaurants. The water slide was closed. The gym was closed after second day. The pools were crowded. Sigh! Considering that the ship is plying around Southeast Asia which is humid, hot, and wet weather all roll into one, the absence of ice-cream parlours, water coolers and memories of seeing long queues of people filling their water bottles and milk bottles at the buffet stands were a sorry sight. One last caution. Pasta is freeflowing. Pizzas? You have to pay. I am sorry but I missed Costa Victoria. Read Less

We decided to go away for Christmas so we decided to go on a cruise round the Emirates, so we booked with Thomas Cook one night stay in Dubai in the Grand Time Hotel. The hotel was not what we had expected for Dubai tired & dated when we found the room it was facing a very busy road & after a long journey we did not need this apart form that the sheets had holes in once again very dated. The food was fair. Next day we were taken to the port in the same car witch picked us up from the airport top range car & very good polite driver. Arrived at port only to find a long queue for customs & embarkation to ship. once on the ship our cabin was not ready so went off for food & drink Finally cabin ready but no cases, we were told the will be put in our cabin. Time went on 9 o,clock had passed so I went to look for them found them in a pile by the lifts dug it out myself. By this time we retired for the night, Next day up for breakfast order eggs 45 mins passed this happened on all the trip. Evening meals were a little better but all with a Italian them if you like Italian food. Apart from that the cruse was good, we only used Costa once fora trip in Dubai which is well wort doing the rest or the stops we used a local taxi round about a £100 for five hours well wort it. Very tired and dated ship. Food choices minimal and waiting forty five minutes for breakfast. Entertainment repeats nightly. The worst was giving credit card information to find that £9.00 each was deducted daily for services and tips even though Staff were trying to get more on the last evening before we knew we had to pay this. Please be aware of these charges if you book a cruise, the travel agent said we were "lucky" as this was a small service charge. When queried with our credit card company we were told it was section 75 in the terms and conditions that this charge would be levied, we were never given any paperwork by the travel agent and our computer was in for repair. If you enjoy all inclusive to ensure your costs are met upfront, don't do this. You could face a nasty shock on your final bill. We had a drinks package just as well as there was a 17% charges on drinks etc Read Less

In an attempt to keep this brief I'll list good and bad points from our first ever cruise. We are a married couple in our 50s. Good: Service Facilities Entertainment variety Cadiz , Valencia and Lisbon Inside Cabin was adequate and I really can't see the argument for upgrading to outside or balcony given the short time we actually spent in the cabin. Steward Uri was excellent Fresh towels and bedding every day Pools Drinks package is a must even though we are not big drinkers Not too many announcements Embarkation and disembarkation were always smooth and well organised to minimise waiting times Variety of food Bad: Excessive charges for shuttle bus at some ports Too little time to explore Barcelona (4 hours) Rude people pushing and shoving at buffet meal time Read Less

Having read previous reviews of the Costa Fortuna and the Norwegian fjords cruise we had doubts and low expectations of the ship and the itinerary. However, we were very happy that everything was far beyond our expectations. We had previously been on a Carnival Line Caribbean cruise so we did not know what we would experience from an Italian line. However, we had a large and confortable cabin (2nd Deck) with ample wardrobe space; the food was excellent both at the buffet and in the dining room; the staff were friendly; service excellent and the entertainment varied and enjoyable. We took 5 excursions, which, despite the very cold and inclement weather, were generally good. We heartily recommend this cruise, which has a distinctly European flavour, and woulkd go on this line again, despite the saying "Costa Fortuna - costs you a fortune!) Read Less

Just got back from cruise to Greek Islands from Venice on Costa Fortuna. My first time with Costa Cruises, have been on 15 cruises before with various companies - some big and some small. The embarkation was awful, hundreds of people waiting to get on and NO ORGANISATION WHATSOEVER, not a good start. Lovely ship, lovely cabin and very good itinerary BUT the food on the ship was so disappointing. The food on a ship is part of the cruise experience but the food on this ship will only be remembered for the wrong reasons. The quality of the meat was very poor, not your usual steaks and lobster etc., just cheap cuts of meat and lots of chicken all very chewy with the exception of the Gala dinner when we had a reasonable steak but it was a very small portion. One night I didn't like any of the main courses offered and settled for an 'alternative' of steak and chips, it was what we buy in the supermarkets, the cheapest steak possible to buy, usually sold as quick fry steak with a few chips literally chucked on a plate, no garnish or salad etc., one of the ladies on my table had salmon every night because she couldn't eat the meat and they even run out of that on the Saturday. The 'salad bar' was the most boring salad bar I have ever seen- salad leaves from a plastic bag thrown into a bowl, a few sliced onions, radishes, carrots and unbelievably for an italian ship NO TOMATOES!! NO DRESSINGS and when you did order a salad in the restaurant at night with your meal there was so little dressing you couldn't taste it, my american companions on my table reckoned it had been watered down. In the buffet there were so many people and so many queues and when you got your food it was impossible to find a table- we ended up one day sitting on a sun lounger trying to balance and eat our lunch. In the buffet they had a carvery and one day instead of meat it was a whole boiled octopus- the whole buffet stunk of it! I usually went down to the restaurant for lunch to avoid the bun fight in the buffet and on the last day the only choice for meat was lamb curry! OK if you like curry but I dont and on a cruise in the mediterranean who would want to eat curry! At lunchtime in the restaurant there was only one meat choice take it or leave it!! This is an italian ship and the english speaking guests were way outnumbered by the italians who got preference every time, first off on the tenders, excursions, shuttles etc., and although it wasnt school holiday week in the UK it must have been in Italy because there were so many italian children on board and they have even less manners than their parents. I complained to the english speaking hostess on the last day about the only choice being curry and no seats in the buffet and she said because it was the last day she couldnt do anything about it had I gone to her on the first day then she could, I doubt if she could have changed the standard of the food!! She didn't want to know and I have since coming home sent my complaint to Costa who so far after one week have only received an automatic reply and still awaiting for their comments. Read Less

My husband and I have cruised many times before (on 5 different cruise lines) and wanted to introduce our friends to this type of vacation. It was the first time we had gone with Costa and we chose it based on price. We had read all the negative comments but went on the cruise with an open mind. The embarkation was probably the easiest we have ever experienced. The cruise card and credit card validation were not done at check in and this speeded up the whole thing. Our luggage arrived at our stateroom soon after we boarded. Last cruise in December, it was almost dinnertime before my husband's case arrived. The food reviews we had read were not good, however, we found the quality and choice of food excellent. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. After the first day we ate all of our meals in the dining room as we did find the layout of the buffet on deck nine a little chaotic. Our friends chose to have breakfast and lunch on deck nine and thought it was fine. Our balcony stateroom was very comfortable and spotless. It was nearly always cleaned while we ate breakfast. Allen our cabin steward was very thorough and always smiling. I must comment on the pillows though, as they were very hard and could be doing with being replaced. We did find it confusing that on some of the public decks you could not walk from one place to another without going up or down. The lack of a wrap around promenade deck was also disappointing as we love to walk 2 miles every day. There is a jogging track but it got very busy and was small enough to give you the feeling that you were going round in small circles! The quality of the entertainment was above average for a cruise ship and many of the shows were spectacular with laser lighting and extravagant costumes. The ports of call were the usual for the western Caribbean and we did not go on any tours. The time in each port did seem a little short and most days we set sail shortly after 2pm. Although I have outline some negative points, all in all, we all thought it was excellent value for money. All the other lines we have sailed with have their positive and negative points as well. Our friend said they really felt they were in Italy some of the time. Would we all repeat the experience? Yes Read Less

I had four cabins booked on this Western Caribbean cruise, including our own stateroom. My sister shared the balcony cabin with my husband & myself. We checked in shortly after 1 pm. Embarkation was extremely smooth, probably the most efficient that we have ever experienced. We went directly to our cabin which was far forward on the starboard side. The stateroom was very comfortable and the bathroom quite adequate and well laid out. My sister had a comfortable lower berth which was a very nice touch. We especially liked the light, warm wood in the decor which made the room feel brighter and more spacious than the darker woods we frequently encounter. The storage space alotted was more than adequate for the three of us, even though some of us always seriously over-pack. The ship is beautiful, spotless and immaculately maintained. Our waiter, Alan, did a fine job, as did our room steward, Olga. Breakfast & lunch were open seating and the wait staff did an exemplary job with both. The entertainment venues that we attended were exceptionally good, though we were not great fans of the female vocalist on the first evening. We especially enjoyed the Italian tenor, Antonio, the acrabats, and the dancers. The Elton John tribute was also very good. The itinerary and ports were excellent. Now for the bad news: the food. It ranged from outright bad to just mediocre. The lido buffet was consistently terrible, except for the pizza and the soft-serve ice cream. The Michelangelo dining room didn't fare much better. The prime rib and steak offerings were obviously inferior cuts of meat and were consistently served medium-well rather than medium-rare as requested. Shellfish was also consistently overcooked, tough and rubbery. The only dish I had all week that I would say rose to a level of more than just "okay" was the moussaka offered at Saturday's lunch. If Costa is serious about competing toe-to-toe with the other cruise lines in the Caribbean venue, it needs to take drastic and immediate measures to improve the quality of its food. It is a shame that with so much going for it, the Fortuna fell so short with its dining venues. Read Less
