We wanted to try to cruise with Costa. The embarkation was not organized. People lined up wanted to get to the ship as soon as possible, despite we got our number to got in. The room was cline. Lunch for the first day was fine, but no coffee or tea, had to wait till 16.00 pm,unless if we pay for it. Dinner was not good, soup was not hot, very hectic. The waiter was unpatient to take the orders. Because he was alone to take care many tables. No explanation from daily menu. We have to ordered very quick. After dinner we had to wait long time to get our coffee , because they had to get from the bar. On the following day our coffee were served before dinner. We had 3 times fire drills, which was disrupted our nap. We booked premium balcony, unfortunately the room below the deck pool, we could hear when people moving the chairs. The worst night was on the 3rd day and the 5th day of the cruise, when they had loud party on the deck pool. We tried to call the receptionist, no body pick up the phone after 15 minutes of waiting. I had to go on the 3rd floor to complain about the noises. But no body listen to us. Read Less

Let's just begin with Language, they don't speak ENGLISH even in announcements... The price you pay is only and only for the room. You have to pay for Water, activities, restaurant food, etc.. Okay, let's say you pay at the Restaurant and buy water, but the waiters are so STUPID that it takes them a legit 30mins. to awknowledge that 11 guests are in need of a basic Human Need: Water.. The rooms and room Service for okay; adjusting stable for 8days. But they were making fun of Indians in there language and laughing along at dance hall (Deck 2) ... The workers there were the worst behavior, they have so much attitude and are careless of anyone. They don't care about anyone, and they talk with us and say yeah we'll bring water and food and we are sitting there for 2.5hrs with NOTHING... never go on costa NEVER Read Less

The food loks werry atractive,but dont small anything nothing. Coffemachine was open 2times in à day,morning and afternoon 4-1730. Ju most have an drinkpaket,anyway it's gona be werry expensive for you. All presentation in the theatre are 5langues,we sleep before they start. When we have gala dinner,maybe 20ptocen was dress,ashamed. IF you dont go to the restaurang on the eveening you gona sleep hungry,IF you dont bay pizza or burger,Moneybrother money.ashamed. Same god things,the ship was so clean. You most learn chefs to dont serve red burgare,and till them about garlic an pepper. It's werry difficult to have an table with lunch,people ho dont have an balcony cabbin are sittning all day and play card.ashamed.we have cruissing over 20times but nerver see a cruise boat like Costa luminosa. We are not normally difficult to please. We have taken eight cruises between my sister and I and have never been so disappointed as with this Costa Cruise. If I ever hear the phrase "impossibla" or "madam it is not possible" again I will scream! When you take a cruise you have to accept that you are a captive audience and all that goes with that. However, Costa take this to an entirely different level. The staff are trained in the a way which seems to be that the customer is never right and expects too much! By the end of our seven day cruise we had a list of three A4 sheets of complaints (we don't normally do this!). A few examples - The lifeboat drill was a farce - we asked a number of crew for directions and were sent the wrong way three times before finding the English speaking presentation - this did not fill us with confidence from the first day!! We politely asked the deck crew to get out some sunbeds on an upper deck - they were very reluctant, saying that they could only get them out on one deck (not where we had found a sheltered spot!) We both drink a lot of water……despite being on the all inclusive package, water was restricted to a serving by the glass (small) and I could not get a glass of Prosecco (normally included at the bars) in the dining room as a dessert wine. Also huge queues for the buffet on returning from excursions, pools closed for no apparent reason, children in adult areas and poor excursions, where supposed English speaking guides could only repeat "is very important" for most of the landmarks! All of these are indicative of poor organisation and poor customer service. After complaining with Guest Services and speaking with the English Cruise Representative (who we felt were understanding of our issues), we decided not to pay the Service Charge as we had received very poor service. To cap it all, when we were disembarking we were shouted down by a tall overbearing Italian man (The Assistant Administrative Director – Daniele Gorini) who did not listen to anything we said but just insisted on speaking over us. He then proceeded to say that Trip Advisor and Cruise Critic were “Bull Shit.” Needless to say, we will not be taking a Costa Cruise again. We normally take NCL cruises, however, they did not have the specific dates we needed on this occasion. Next time we will take a different holiday rather than a Costa Cruise!!! Read Less

the destination were very nice, however Costa is not one of my favorite cruise lines. As a previous cruiser I have taken cruises from different cruise line, and Costa is actually the one I like the least. I thought Carnival was bad but it doesn't compared to Costa, overall the food was not that great, they force you to go to the dinner at the restaurant which the food there weren't many variety. Being Italian I thought the pizza would be tasty, but it was just bread with bad tomato sauce. For Room Service you have to pay for it. also for the basketball court, ping pong, and miniature golf, basically all the facilities you have to pay. The entrainment was ok if you were Brazilian, the team were more tailor for Brazilians they were constantly speaking Portuguese, sometime they tried to speak in English but they were more shy to speak English. They also were not so interested in other guess that didn't speak Portuguese, this was disappointed. the dancing team were nice, cheerful. The cabin steward was nice, he was very friendly. The style of the cruise wasn't my cup of tea, I thought it was ugly. the Gym was full all the time! I didn't like the many language announcement, I thought it was a bit irritated. I am not sure if is true but I don't think costa leave you if you are not on time. they keep your passport, I didn't dare to try but if this is the case then it will be bad! Read Less

We were very disappointed in our cruise, the food was poor with no buffet option in the evening (closed at 3 or 4 pm daily only a salad bar and pizza in the evening). Food in the restaurant was bland, service slow, but no choice if you wanted more than a salad! Costa's strange and inconsiderate no smoking/smoking policy allowed people to smoke INSIDE the ship - in all the main bars and lounges - saying that there were no-smoking tables was ridiculous as people smoking in an enclosed area pollutes the entire room. On top of this the genuien (small) no smoking lounge and bar were out of bounds, taken over for Costa (to see future cruises, i.e. The Isolobella lounge) - or only sometimes available - the very small Isolobella bar. All the rest were open and adjoining smoking areas (the Cigar bar open to the non smoking Piano bar!) Even the card room, which we enjoyed during the day, was closed at night and turned into a photo studio. On deck, smokers could smoke anywhere on the left/port side of the ship - that was fine, but many 'strayed' so that sometimes (as the ship was fulll) it took a while to find a smoke free place. Staff on deck hard to find, no one bothering to remind people who were smoking in non smoking areas that it was 'not allowed'. Staff were generally quite apathetic, I made several complaints and suggestions (about noise in the corridors outside cabins in the early hours of the morning - no response). Earplugs helped. On the plus side the gym was good, the cabins were clean, the cabin staff excellent. We were lucky to have good weather so that we could sit outside and not be breathing in smoke. If you're a smoker, this is the cruise for you - all those years of having to sit outside to have a cigarette you can now enjoy one in almost any bar or lounge in the ship - if you're a non-smoker think twice! We sailed from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Hong Kong. We travelled with 4 adults and 1 child. Our cruise was 3 sailings in 1 for us so three times people got off and on. I am one that looked at the reviews and thought oh it cannot be that bad. Many issues that have been reported are now fixed. Embarking in Singapore, excursions, Visas, passports and shuttles. All justified and not a problem. The bad review is due to numerous things that took place. Day 1. We were awakened at 3:30am the first night as something fell down from the upper bunk from my daughter's bed. We turned on lights to hand her back her bear when I looked over to my pillow I noticed a bug round and flat. I flicked it off the bed thinking nothing off it as I was tired and then I realized OMG that's a bed bug. I threw back the duvet to find 6 more in plain sight. I got dressed and ran down to reception. They had a manager come confirm the issue and supplied us a new cabin and asked that we follow up in the morning about new cabin. So at 4am we moved our belongings without assistance and moving our young child from bed to a cabin down the hall. The manager on duty insisted we see the dr. on board and when she told me the expense I stated we had to bites and we would be fine as it would have been over $400 for this first. It took us nearly 1 hour to get moved and no person was in sight. Day 2. We woke up had breakfast and then went to reception to find out what was to happen next. Might I add that there is usually 1 person at this desk at all times and minimum 30 min wait on any occasion due to translation issues. At this time we were told our original cabin was being fumigated and the temporary cabin was vacant the rest of cruise and awaiting manager approval to move permanently. The new room toilet broke every time we used it and cabin smelt of sewage. The maintenance came 3 times that day to fix it and in the end we ended up using the toilet in old cabin as it was not working. The AC is another issue it did not work at all. Something about a clogged vent and while in a climate of 90 degrees plus left us no other option but to sleep nearly unclothed. So the conditions of the temp cabin were just as bad as old. Day 3. This day we went on our excursion to return to room with a note to see reception. Another 45 minutes waiting in line and 30 minutes to reach a resolution. They were moving us back to original cabin due to it being ALL CLEAR. I through a fit and the reception didn't even blink an eye. She said they sold the cabin we are in for new leg of trip and stated the bugs were gone and won't come back. So instead of sit down dinner we placed our daughter in kids club and moved yet again. Since they wanted us moved before stewards came on shift. Oh I forgot that it was my holiday for a second not to put anyone else out. Seriously. So we moved back to the original cabin. Day 4. This day our Costa cards froze due to being swapped around so much so no drinks for us today. Took another 45 minutes in line to sort that out. We had been in contact with our agent in the states and that evening we received a fruit bowl for all our troubles. I guess an apple, orange and mango will fix it right. Day 5. Came back from day in Singapore to have our steward tell us other rooms around us had bed bugs too now. 6 in total on the floor we were on. After numerous fumigations they were not dying. Well great I thought. So the evening comes and after dinner we settle in for the night. Watching movies in bed on the IPad until I felt something on my leg and I jumped out. Sure enough they were back and this time 3 fold. Steward was on duty and I called him in right away to look at them. He radioed manager on duty and I went down to reception. This time I was greeted by a manager MariaLuisa. She was genuine and concerned about everything. She ordered that our clothes be washed and our bags be fumigated. We were being upgraded from inside to outside cabin far away from our original cabin. She had 3 stewards assisting in moving our things and called once we moved to ensure we settled in. Everything was fine in cabin except the smoke smell that was so bad. This evening they offered to pay for the dr. visit if required. Day 6. We had a very early morning excursion and decided since we upgraded to premium we should order in breakfast. Well they showed up 30 minutes after time they were intended to and then demanded we pay for a service we already paid for. Stated our cabin was not listed on premium and that to hand over $21 for a late and cold breakfast. I asked her kindly to leave our cabin and speak with management or steward about breakfast as we were not having it. As we run down stairs with moments to spare as out excursions was literally leaving the ship my husband got us a coffee and croissant each. On arrival we find the tenants next to us are smoking in there room that is connected to ours and the smoke was coming through the cracks in the door. This was fixed by using tape around the door and spraying our room down with a perfume of some sort. 45 more minutes in line at customer service. Our steward provided us with fruit and prosecco for our troubles with breakfast as he was unaware either about premium. Day 7. Costa Cards frozen again and more time wasted fixing something that we should not have been. This day also entailed us calling our US bank to verify in front of manager that it was not a prepay debit we were using for cruise purchases. Day 8-12 were a combination of lost excursion tickets due to them swapping us numerous times. The desk had them for nearly 6 days before telling us our Vietnam tickets were placed in the temp cabin not occupied by someone else. This was done wrong even after we told excursion desk we moved a 3rd time. Excursion for Hong Kong was cancelled after booking 2 months in advance. They were charging service charge for my child even though their site specifically stated no service for under 14. A heated 9pm argument with desk about that left me bitter and upset with Costa even more. You take what's not yours and I have stayed in hostels cleaner than that of our cabin. They froze up our friends cards too from same bank and there room became infested with bed bugs during their linen change. Day 13. Last night on cruise and we were pulled in by management about our fees. We were told our agent had been on contact with the ship and we did not have to pay gratuities in the end due to all the trouble we incurred. So the people that helped us in room, restaurant and spa won't get a fee that is made for them due to issues that customer service caused. Does not seem fair at all in my opinion and we signed the paper we would pay them on our own and we did. In the end our cruise itinerary was amazing. My daughter loved the kids club apart from the fact that while we sailed over New Year's they were due to have a party for them and cancelled it due to lack of participation. In fact it was due to crew wanting to party it up as I spoke with other parents who looked forward to the event. Oh and as we went to bed early due to closing the kids club early we were awoken at 11:45pm by a Italian screaming over intercom counting down till midnight. Not just once but numerous times and over whole PA system. By the end of the cruise 9 rooms became infested and it's rather sad that sanitation is not better. They ruined a large percentage of clothes they washed as well as they were combined with what looked to be a dark blue towel in which ever thing turned blue. So for the last week I wore items that were discolored and I disappointed as the items were still new just for our first cruise. I wasted my time with my family waiting in lines for things that should not be an issue. I spent no kidding upwards of 7 hours dealing with the customer service staff to resolve issue after issue. The pool was closed on nearly both sea days and not a lot was offered on board to do during this time. So a lot of dead time was spent in the cabin. Read Less

Cruise Line: Costa Cruises Ship: Costa Pacifica Sailing date: April 27th, 2011 Itinerary: 12-day Holy Land, later changed to Turkey & Greece After making a comfortable one-hour transfer by train (independent), from Milan we arrived at the port of Savona. Embarkation was easy and organized. My accommodations (outside cat. E1 - Notturno deck) had soft colors, beautiful wood cabinetry, a desk with mirror, mini-bar, personal safe, TV set and was clean and comfortable. The closets were ample and the cabin had huge sofa for four persons. The soundproofing is excellent. The room service is limited but worked well. TV options were mediocre. The cabin steward Aldian, from Malaysia was very good, keeping cabin clean and made up. The New York, New York Restaurant is used at lunch and two Dinner seatings; decorated with extremely bad taste in purple, dark red and brown, chandeliers with burnt lamps and very few windows. The food came in tiny portions but was really good and well presented. As a cruise line economy measure our good waiter had to attend 22 persons and the service was very slow until I made a complaint to the maitre D and we got another waiter assistant to help and to put the service in good shape. The Buffet La Paloma used for breakfast and alternative lunch is very informal, the food was acceptable. The Pizza served in this buffet in the evening is the worst I have ever tried in ships. No Midnight Buffets. The officials ignored the passengers, not even greeting us when passing by. The Captain was only seen on the first and last day and did not make any traditional noon announcement during the entire cruise The dress code was very casual and few men wore jack & tie in some occasions. Entertainment was very good with nice music and shows. The boutiques have good service and selections and the photo-shop is very good. Shore excursions were expensive and limited so I took independent tours in all ports. This ship has been very well maintained but has a horrible and very tacky decor, plenty of purple, dark red and brown and very dark in some areas. The casino is unbelievably decorated with "arts" showing panties and brassieres. Ports of Call: Katakolon, Limassol, Marmaris, Izmir, Pireus, Civitavecchia Katakolon The small village is very nice and the gateway to Olympia Limassol The city does not have any touristic interest, the ruins of Paphos outside Limassol is a place to go. Rhodes The best port of this cruise; this island is full of history and historical buildings. Izmir An uninteresting port city, gateway to Ephesus and house of Virgin Mary Pireus The ship stayed in port only for six hours due to a four hour strike in the subway and we did not have time to go to Athens. Interestingly, MSC Musica was also there and stayed in the port for the whole day allowing the passenger to go to Athens and other interesting places. Civitavecchia We stayed in this interesting city as we have been in Rome before. Conclusion We bought an expensive Holy Land cruise but received a cheaper Turkey and Greece instead. Egypt and Israel ports were canceled and Costa did not give us any compensation, option to cancel, a voucher or even a chance to change for other cruise. The ship dEcor is really horrible, call this Italian is an offence to a nation that has so many talented designers. The cruise quality in many aspects was very low, the worst in all Costa Cruises I have been. Next time I want to go Italian style I will choose a MSC ship, Costa never more. Read Less
