We chose this cruise, because we wanted to visit a bit warmer places before winter. It was really a great decision. Food was delicious and our service (waiter) was really, really kind. It is always a lot of food to eat and everyone can fine something for himself. We liked activities for children and other things on the ship. We enjoyed every single minute on the cruise. Ports and excursions were well organized. We had no bad experience with disembarkation and embarkation. The ship is beautiful and has everything for a comfortable holiday. The cabin was beautiful and always clean when we come back, so the employees did their job as they should. Everyone was very kind. The children also really enjoyed the holiday. Our daughter, that can speak English, met a lot of friends from different countries, and for her it was also a great experience. we would like to go again to visit other destinations as well- Read Less

On September 23, having just disembarked from MSC Fantasia in Genoa, I took a taxi to Savona (the driver offered me a special price of EUR100) and embarked on Costa Fascinosa, a back-to-back cruise though changing ship. I had bought this second cruise last minute via internet while still on MSC Fantasia. What I got was nothing more than an Outside cabin without balcony that was still available, but paying a very good price. This cruise had a similar but not a same itinerary as the one I just left. Only two ports are repeated (Barcelona and Palma). Simply because I had another spare slot of time in the area before yet another cruise, and another cruise is always a good way to spend time (probably cheaper than simple living on land in Europe). I have previously cruised Costa a lot, but in recent years I preferred MSC which operates almost side by side. It was good to return to see how Costa fare, which I am still familiar with. What differences between the two! Simply put, MSC operates a more mature, more traditional cruise, while still cater to some younger cruisers, but Costa remains still the craziest and noisiest of cruise lines, cater to the youngest. Few cruise lines, if any, has main activities starting near midnight that can last till dawn. The White Night party was the craziest. Practically all passengers join, or like me, at least I had a long look of the action. Even in the main dining room, more than once there were activities of singing and dancing. The Baked Alaska parade was still on. Costa has shows every night, mostly production shows, unlike many competitors which seek cost cutting by presenting Headline Entertainers that may be of doubious standard. The shows were good, always highly energetic, and with real dances well choreographed. I consider the Costa shows among the best, if you like action-packed shows. This ship is smaller than competitor ships but has the largest show lounge of all. My stateroom, a basic Outside on the lowest level, is not bad at all. It is among the most spacious, bigger than similar cabins on RCCL, MSC and NCL. The ship’s hull is the same as the expensive Cunard’s Victoria. House-keeping was very good, and restaurant service was also adequate. For the price, I ought to say that my experience again exceeds my expectation, though I know Costa well, with more than 10 previous cruises earlier. I came with the lowest expectation of the food, but what a surprise! The food is better than RCCL and NCL. It serves a different menu devoted to a different region in Italy everyday (I believe they learned this from MSC). The cooking was more than adequate and on occasion even some pleasant surprises. One of the evenings they serve a menu specially designed by a famous Italian chef, and it was good. The free menu consists of paid choice which can be as simple as Wiener Schnitzel at a few Euro, up to a lobster at EUR25. On the buffet deck, more than once they serve very good local food, even sucking pig appeared, as well as Paella when in Spain. Cost cutting is through table water to be paid for, and even at the buffet they turn off the water as soon as dinner service ends. Tea and Coffee are available only at breakfast. For lunch and dinner you pay for it. So many passengers buy a drinks package as a matter of necessity. In this respect Costa is the meanest of them all (while everyone tries to cut back). For an ultra active cruise that is animated round the clock, Costa is supreme. Guests are mainly Italian and Costa employs several language hostesses who each have their station to answer any questions. Hospitality was good, again better than I expected (I had cruised on this ship, as well as the newest of them all, the Diadema). A satisfactory cruise that is good-valued. I only hope that Costa can spare passengers of the unnecessary ordeal of the emergency drill, which they operate seriously in the hardest way while competitors are more considerate. Was this the aftermath of Concordia? You are expected to put on the jacket and listen to the instructions in 6 languages before you are allowed to retire. The standard itinerary calls on Naples, Palermo, and after a sea day, to Ibiza for a long stay arriving early and sails for Palma de Mallorca at 4am the next day. Ibiza in late September was still active and the weather is fine. A true highlight of this cruise as you can sample Ibiza nigh life. Last port of call to Barcelona winds up the trip of a very standard itinerary. Savona was a convenient home port for embarkation and disembarkation. Read Less

First problem that costa only sent the e tickets 3 days before the cruise after ringing the tour oppertater daily to this. The restaurants have the same menu each day for breakfast lunch and evening with an ever so slight tweak. There was a hot dog burger area, being a vegetarian i requested a veggie burger and was told that I could have one in the designated restaurant that evening with a charge. The options on the menu were poor. Usually on a cruise a slice of pizza as a snack is usually an option, but not with costa an whole pizzas has to be purchased. A second seating option that I asked to have on numerous occasions but was refused, but do not totally understand why as each stop passengers were embarking and disseminating. The cut off time for the self service restaurant was 9.30, therefore one had to eat before this time , if they felt like it or not usually there is somewhere to have a snack if feeling hungry before bed time. The first seating was 6.45 and second seating was 9.15, usually water is served free of charge , but only bottled water was available with a charge. We came back on board late one night as we had a early morning sailing. Every were was closed, the only cold water station was out if water and glasses. We went to the bar at the back of the ship were the staff were clearing away to be totaly ignored by the staff, a young member of staff was very helpful and provided us with water. Also lipstick was found on a drinking mug on another occasion. The staff were entirely rude and missarsble, the were without a smile or greeting. The entertaimment was flat usually there is something for everyone. There were no port talks, no information on port transfers only what was provided by costa at a higher cost. Whilst in our stateroom, there constant interruptions with tanoy announcements. There was not many places on board to have a quiet time to read, it seemed to be constant noise everywhere. We have been with numerous cruise lines and never had an experience like this.We enjoyed our stops and tended to have a meal off board . The only tv channels available were the news channels all other channels were in different languages and only films available were with a charge. It's our first and last cruise with costa and would not recommend it to anyone . Read Less

My first time not on an American cruise ship. I have been on Princess, Celebrity and Seaborne. My husband is Italian so thought we would try Fascinosa out of Savona (Genoa). We got a suite, which gives you the Intenditore all inclusive drinks package and access to the 11 floor dining room, which is fabulous. Great food and service. All for about half price of American cruise lines. We loved the Med cruise especially the stay in Ibiza where we took ferries ourselves to the beaches in Formentera. Very easy to take yourselves to the beaches via ferry. A terrific experience. But yes, it is European. Know that in Naples you can take a cab to almost any site for a private tour! But we enjoyed the tour via Costa in Palermo. We did a mix of taking Costa tours and traveling on our own. In Barcelona it was easy to walk to the shopping areas on our own and just fabulous. Having paid so little it should have been a clue not to expect the best of service or standards, but if it were possible to rate zero I would. Most of the staff had an attitude that passengers were an inconvenience and the only time they were prompt was when it was time to close services, sometimes a tiny bit early, e.g. on a day at sea waited 15 minutes for a waitress to finally come and take my order, when I pointed out the delay she aggressively said she was on her own (one would have thought as all passengers were aboard they might have known it would be busy) The food was at best average and the decor was more cheap and tacky than luxury. However all of these things might have been tolerated if the ship was not full of unconrolled, screaming children, from babies to young teemagers, who treated the whole ship including the casino, the theatre and adults only salons as unsupervised kindergarten. It is well known that the Italian culture is very family friendly but on this ship it was to the detriment of adults. Read Less

Having cruised with Costa previously, this was a very disappointing experience to the point we have now chosen not to book this line ever again. Ship needs refurbishment, cabin was very small and service was non existent. At the start of the cruise we were asked to select when we would like the cabin to be cleaned! The suggestion was it woul only happen once a day. Rembrandt, you have to pay the gratuities with this line. Forget breakfast unless you like cake, bread buns and fruit. Entertainment was ok but catering for Italian customers. Dining experience was very slow and they now charge fro the water! My wife has made the suggestion that we only use Costa to get from A to B. In other words, use Costa as a ferry service e.g. Barcelona to Savona. Real cruisers willl be let down by booking Costa Cruise so be warned. Read Less

This cruise seemed good value but it’s basically the easyjet the seas, seems cheap but will charge for everything! We sailed from Barcelona for a week around Italy etc... I have sailed previously with other liners but this was definitely the worst. Here is why; Check in was disorganised with no visual information of where to go next. This lead to a confused check in which didn’t help out stress levels with a young baby and 5 year old in tow. Staff told us different things. One saying don’t que go straight to the front of the line, when arriving we were told to join the que. The costa port had no luggage trollers and with lots of bags, a pram and a travel cot plus the kids it made the port very difficult. Pre arrival I contacted costa and asked about a cot for my son told that all had been allocated and I couldn’t have one. I forwent my car seat and brought my travel cot adding greatly to the struggle with luggage. I was told after arrival that they had travel cots available. Our travel got damaged in transport and we didn’t even need it in the end, very annoying! No information in the room for pre booked packages. Ie princess for the day, spa etc.... also had no daily itinerary and had to quit for 16-20 mins to get one. Get used to waiting in the guest services que if you are English speaking. No information was given and it wasn’t made clear as to what is included in the premium package and the drinks packages until I questioned it after queuing at guest services. I had an idea but wanted the detail as it was so confusing. The English information is minimal and disorganised at best. My daughter was looking forward to kids club and was accepted into squark club. They say they give rust bands for safety in an emergency, mine was not given the rist band, that details the muster point etc. until I asked on the second admission. Was not told where to pick them up in an emergency. Basic safety not followed!! Come on, not great given their history! No children’s programme until we asked on the second day. Noted that others had them delivered to the cabin. Spa package was reserved. When we came to find out how the week package worked, cards were taken for payment and wrist bands given. We were offered upgrades for an extra fee. We declined a number of times and had decline assertively before they stopped the big sell. We then had to asked whether we got robes towels etc... and they were given to us only after asking. We then waited while the person serving us went onto serve someone else. We were not shown around and thought we had to work it out on our own. We asked different staff and guests about what to do ie where towel are kept, what area is what, how the tea area worked etc... when I complained the receptionist was helpful offering a tour tomorrow but did not understand our issue with poor customer care. Just kept reiterating about the reason we signed the robe out and had to sign it back. Most food is frozen or tinned I think and tastes like it. Not at all as good as any other cruise I have been on. We cook far better at home. Booked princess package for our daughter, despite ordering online, we had to que one again in guest services for the receipt so we could fill a form in to allow her to do it! Even guest services were confused why they wouldn’t Accept the email! No communication, so much so I worry about how they would communicate in an emergency. Kids can only dance at 10pm until midnight in the disco! I suppose ok for European timetable but for brits they were alienated. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! Read Less

I’m not saying I regret taking this Costa Cruise. It was cheap and reviews indicated it wouldn’t have much in terms of amenities or decent food. It also had the smallest cruise room we’ve ever stayed in. All of that aside, the cruise cake with free drinks, good service, and a great international flair. Our 12 abs 14 year olds found enough to do, and we sailed for the ports anyway. It was ok. Would I sail Costa again if the price is right ... yes I would. Would I recommend it to others? If you’re ok with Carnival and aren’t sailing for the food, then yes. Would I recommend it for families? I’d say no if you have young children. There wasn’t much for them on this ship. I’m of the mindset that fun can be had anywhere, and our party of 7 - 2 seniors, 3 adults, and 2 teens - all had a good time. Read Less

My wife and I chose to cruise on Costa knowing full well that they are an Italian line that does not cater to English speakers because we wanted to have a more European experience. We embarked in Barcelona directly from the airport after an approximately hour drive around the city while out transfer company (Eros Bus) dropped off other passengers who were not going to the port. Barcelona is a beautiful city and we would like to spend some more time that at a later date. Embarkation went smoothly and we found that all the staff people that we interacted with knew enough English to answer our questions and were very helpful. Once aboard, we were met by the English speaking representative who invited to an orientation in English which was very helpful and she informed us that she would be available for a specified time each day to address any questions or concerns. I did see her several times during the cruise and she was very helpful. I should say here that she told us that there were about 300 English speakers on the cruise out of a total of about 3,800 passengers aboard. During the course of the cruise, we did not meet another American. The entertainment was very good and plentiful, lots of singing and dancing. The shows were very entertaining and included singing, acrobatics, opera and dance. The Italians, who made up more than half of the passengers ( the rest being mainly German, French, Dutch and various other Europeans) kept things lively late into the night during the length of the cruise. We were a little disappointed in the quality of the food in the main restaurants. All the pasta dishes were excellent, but the rest of the dishes were not up to the standards of other cruise lines we have been on. The food in the buffet was very good but does not have a lot of variety. Coffee is not served with dinner and is not always available on the ship, but cappuccino and espresso are available at all the bars on the ship at any time and are excellent. The ship is beautiful and clean, the crew is generally helpful and know enough English to answer any concerns. I will say that they went out of their way to be helpful when they found out that we were Americans. The excursions were excellent, but not always available with an English speaking guide. I would advise you to go anyway, the guides were very patient and knew enough English to let you know anything vital to the excursion. If you are looking for a different experience on your next cruise, this may be for you. However, if you want to go on an Italian cruise for the food, you will probably be disappointed. We came away with a better knowledge of Italian (and European) culture, as well as some very memorable excursions to incredibly amazing locations. Read Less

Checked in at the port which was quick and easy ... then went downhill from there! Nobody to meet you onboard or to advise you where to go. Got to the cabin and found out it was too late for emergency drill. Went to reception to activate key card to be told off for not attending the drill. Dining - no tap water available with evening meal unless you purchased it. No coffee or tea available during lunch or evening meals, only breakfast. Food average and service poor. No manners from staff in buffet restaurant, rude and ignorant. Couldn't get served 3 times at the bar so left without a drink. Entertainment and activities didn't cater for anyone from outside of Italy. Cabin attendant and restaurant waiter were both pleasant and helpful but elsewhere not at all. Having worked on reception myself I can only say that the reception staff need some customer service training. Very rude! Sent an email to Costa over a month ago asking why I was charged a supplement on a cabin with a single bed but still haven't had a response. We were looking for a cruise, when we saw the ship Costa Fascinosa, we were in love at first sight. The ship is huge and clean in and out, we quickly decided to booked although we are familiar with some of the routes , what we are after is the experience. The size of the cabin is more than enough for the 3 of us. We were impressed, the room is tidy and cozy.. The first day we were disappointed because of the limited informations about the dinning procedures, we were not able to catch up the sitting dinner, so we stock up at the buffet. The next day it went smoothly and we enjoyed the activities, the only thing that pissed us off the children are playing at the dancing hall, it seems it is their small playground, there should be strict rules. As the days goes on it is so homely for us, the service is good, the crews are in smiles and accommodating. The excursions were well organized. In total it was an excellent experience for us. Looking forward for our next cruise. Read Less

We have cruised several times before with Costa and we were very happy with our second cruise on the Fascinosa. We are young retirees and we love the constant buzz of this lively Italian cruise line. Embarkation in Barcelona was smooth and efficient. We personally think the itinerary on this Mediterranean cruise is really nice with some beautiful and interesting ports. We like to do our own thing and for us there is always plenty to see and do in the ports themselves (Barcelona, Valencia, Palma, Palermo, Naples, Savona). There are plenty of excursions on offer, however, and they seemed extremely popular. The ship is beautiful, takes a little bit of time to find your way around but it's fun! It's a massive ship but it can feel a little crowded in the bars at peak times but you just need to go with the flow and enjoy the European atmosphere - lively and loud during the evenings in particular. The outside areas around the pool tended to be very busy on the sunnier days but you can always find a little quiet spot somewhere if you want to (this was in late September so during the school holidays it would be very different).. We had a beautiful balcony cabin (all the cabins, interior or exterior look very comfortable) which was kept spotless by our extremely pleasant and hard working cabin steward Raniell. We rarely had time to sit on our balcony though as there was always so much to do and not enough time to do it.. We opted for the early evening service in the Otto e Mezzo and we were looked after very well, The food varied as some evenings we were happier than others but sometimes its down to what you've chosen. The service was a little slower on some evenings than on others but the food was always hot where appropriate. The staff work extremely hard but are always pleasant. We tried the Gattopardo restaurant once or twice for lunch but weren't overly impressed by either the food or the service. Breakfast here was not a relaxing start to the day so we didn't persist. The self-service buffet restaurant, Tulipano Nero, had a really good lunchtime selection of different courses but it tended to be a bit of a bun fight. You need to find a table and get your own drinks first and then choose your food. It feels a bit 'samey' if you have lunch onboard on consecutive days. This restaurant is also open in the evenings and apparently serves the same food as the other two MDRs but we never tried it. We enjoyed a couple of brilliant theatre shows, an 'operatic' evening with two fantastic tenor and baritone performers and a Russian ballet which was a wonderful mix of popular dance but most of the other evenings did not appeal to our tastes. There were various daytime entertainments/pastimes on offer if you happened to be onboard. We caught some of the dance classes which were very popular with a friendly and kind dance team. Overall, we experienced excellent service from the staff at the services desk, the dining room staff, our brilliant cabin steward, the dance and quiz animators and most of the bar service staff. There was a great musical trio in the evening in the Atrium bar but otherwise we were quite disappointed with the music on offer, nothing like our experience on the Diadema earlier this year. If you like dancing and lively music into the early hours then you won't be disappointed. Disembarkation was smooth but we had to wait a little while to collect our bags in the luggage collection hall even though our bags were sitting there in full view but cordoned off but we think this is just to keep things organised and prevent chaos - it was a touch annoying though! We have already booked another Costa cruise so that's the proof that we are very happy with what is on offer and that it is very much to our liking. It is an Italian cruise line and mainly attracts Italians, Spanish and other Europeans, all very lively. Read Less

We started travelling in Barcelona then visited Ibiza, Mallorca, Palermo, Naples, Savona and back to Barcelona. Minuses: not enough English on board and in the excursion program. Too much to wait dinner dishes (2 hours). We did not like early arriving to the ports. Sometimes too little time to visit the cities (for example in Naples we were only 6 hours). Pluses: The ship is new. Everything works good on board. May be too much people in public places. No time to bore - activity program is very dense including fitness, dances, games etc. The personnel is very friendly and warm-hearted (any request was handled in time). There is a real theater on board and that's amazing. It has good acoustic, it's roomy and comfy at the same time. The theater program is varied but I'd say a little bit naive mainly oriented on family (children) audience. I would go with these guys again but of course to different destination. Read Less

We have travelled several times with the Costa. Always with great satisfaction, but this ship is really awful. Crowded with shouting and screaming children. What a terrible noisy and badly runned ship. Everything is concentrated on the Italians, while there are so many different nationalities on board. But that does not count on this ship. Food in the restaurant was not well prepared. The buffet had just an small choice and in the morning there are no eggs at all. The place arount the swimmingpool is always dirty. It is a pity that they replaced a lot of serving staff from Philippines and Indonesia by unfriendly Italians. Costa if you want to be an international firm, then you should do more for the other nationalities and not only make your animation program for the Italians. The cabin was cleaned by very friendly people from the Philippes. Entertainment in the big Music hall is good, but there is hardly no music before dinner. Everything starts when the Italians are ready with their dinner. And that is very late. Read Less

I was interested in doing the islands of the Western Mediterranean and after a fair amount of research the Costa Fascinosa had just what I wanted. There were any amount of queries from friends and family...why Costa? My answer was ‘the route’. I must say that from the point of embarkation the whole trip was a delight. We had a mini suite which was neat and clean, fruits, sparkling wine, a large room that allowed plenty of sunshine. A 40ft balcony that wrapped around the suite was convenient to sit out and enjoy the sunsets. The room was on the port side so we could see the islands as we approached each one. The on board credit of $400 was sufficient for a wine/drinks package for the 7 day trip, and for on shore excursions on Ibiza and Pompeii. There were ample options for meals from breakfast to dinner, and later. Bars were open all the time and service was prompt and efficient. The weather end May/early June was great so one was able to enjoy the outdoors. We chose the first dining option at 6:45pm and had a table for two which was nice for quiet time at the end of every busy day. There was enough opportunity to mix and talk at the breakfast and lunch buffets. There was a lot of on board entertainment which one expects on a cruise for adults, children, fitness fiends, gamblers, dancers and the like. Each night a ‘Diario di Bordo’ was slipped into the suite giving us a whole lot of useful information about what the expect the next day i.e. the temperature, the condition of the sea, news from the bridge, a write up about the port, various entertainment on board, different meals at different locations on the ship, departure details for off shore excursion etc. The ship was clean, the staff efficient and eager to please the 3000+ passengers on board. Our credit cards were linked to our Costa cards which automatically debited any on board purchases and the billing was seamless right up to disembarkation when the Costa cards were returned and our accounts closed. Great job. The disembarkation was executed with precision and that clearly showed that the procedure was backed with loads of experience over the years. All in all...great trip..Gracias Costa....keep sailing. Read Less

First time with Costa Cruises. The ship and accommodation was magnificent. The entertainment in the theatre and by the Latin dance team was excellent. Room cleaning was good. Bar waiters do not harass you to buy drinks, they ask once and place a napkin on your table to signify to other waiters that you have been dealt with. However, I thought Costa let themselves down in several ways. 1. On board gratuities are compulsory therefore service suffers. 2. Prices quoted in bar menus do NOT include a 15% service charge. 3. Sales stalls are set up in high volume walkways causing congestion and making it difficult to move around. 4. Charges are made to get from the ship into the town where you are docked. These are excessive e.g. Ibiza Town - Costa charge 12.95 euros, the local bus from the port is 5 euros return. The time at each destination could have been arranged better e.g. 6 hours in each of Naples and Barcelona as against 18 hours in Ibiza. Read Less

We booked this cruise at the last minute and then went on this review forum and found lots of bad comments which of course worried both myself and my wife. We couldn't disagree more with all the negative reviews as this was one of the best cruises we have been on. (5 previously). Embarkation was easy in Barcelona our cases were taken at the entrance and 20 minutes later we were on board having our first drink. We cannot comment on the drinks prices as we took the package at 25 euros per day which was very fair. We are not big drinkers but found the ease of having coffee/tea or cocktails at any time plus wine with lunch and dinner (a bottle of house wine with every evening meal) very convenient. Our cabin on deck 2 outside window was one of the cleanest and largest we have ever had and the bed was so comfortable, it was cleaned every day by a helpful lady and her male assistant (he did the bathroom). Food again was on a scale with our other cruises certainly no worse and consisted of 4 courses not overly large but enough, you can always have extra courses if you wanted making a 6 course meal was easy. (we never did this but people on the next table often got at least one more course every night). Entertainment was average again no better or worse than previous trips and considering what we paid it was actually good, we went every night to the shows and found them all entertaining. I read one comment on the drawer and wardrobe handles being nail splitting and have to agree they are ridiculous and difficult to open. Disembarkation again was easy our cases were collected sometime in the night and our time of 9.30 am for leaving the boat was spot on, giving us plenty of time for breakfast. A few tips to enjoy your cruise:- If you want a full English breakfast go to the rear restaurant on deck 3, also ask for a teapot with hot water they will provide this. Do not be in a rush as the cooked food can be 10 to 15 minutes in arriving. If you are eating in the buffet on deck 9 then find a place/seat first then have a good wander around to see the different food on display that way you won't miss anything. Try to get to the theater 15 minutes before the allotted time to get a good seat (there are a few columns making viewing difficult). Entering this early also gives you time to order your drinks. I was always pleasant to the staff/waiters/bar staff and this helped as our service was exemplary. Read Less

Service all around the ship was terrible, the staff was rude and angry. Every activities is spoken In Italiano. The food was really bad, on every restaurants, i tried Them all. The samsara spa was A mess, bad service, not organised og planned at all, They Can not handle A situation In rough sea, the staff gets sick, the guest gets sick, and the guest who Can handle the rough sea is not informed about Any delays, it was panic all over, They are not trained to manage A situation like that. We took our kids to the squok babysitting, not once They we're offert something to drink, when we Pick Them up, They we're thirsty and scared. The safety was scaringly bad. 3 times i ask for kids life jacket to our cabin, once at the drill, and once to the service information, and finally to the manager, WE NEVER GOT THEM !!!! Thinking about costas history, Thats unacceptable. We spent more than 10.000 euros on that Cruise, it was not even worth 1 euro. the only positive onboard was Mario, the guy who clean our cabin, he was always smileing, always knock on our door and informed us what he was doing, and best of all informed us immedly when there was something he could not do Right away. That was service. the rest of the staff could learn A lot from him. Costa cant afford to loose A guy like him Read Less

Generally a pleasantly designed ship but has many choke points which jam with guests: notably elevators and exit-entry points . Planning and timing of events results in major crowd jams – e.g. when diners and theatre goers must all change ends of the ship at 9PM. • Very few decks extend for the length of the ship. Almost all traffic must use deck 5 to go from front to back and this is the same deck with nearly all entertainment which is largely in the path of traffic. Insufficient elevators to accommodate this • Many paths on through decks (5 and 9) are blocked by pillars which further constrains passage • Insufficient elevators. Because meals and shows occur at extreme front and back of ship pressure is on a single elevator set. Because decks 3 and 4 which have these purposes do not connect to the rest of the ship all passengers need to use the elevators of stair sets to get out of the meals and theatres and this normally occurs all at once. Passengers jam the elevators and get on whether going up or down. This is the only way to ever get on. Often takes half an hour to get out of the elevator lobby as (mainly Italian ) passengers push and shove and do not let older or handicapped passengers in. The ship sails very slowly between ports resulting in very short port times - and again jams at choke points and elevators. Most ports have effective shore times of only 4 hours (1 to 5PM) severely limiting the length of possible tours or the chance to have a meal on shore. As the port stops are very short - therefore all passengers must exit rapidly at once causing crowding. Hence all tours are short and must disembark immediately and all seem to arrive back at once - again jamming the entries and elevators. • The ship not recommended for those with any mobility limitations: Most tours do not accommodate those unable to climb or walk difficult terrain. Because ship is multilingual many tours are cancelled because of insufficient customers in a specific language. o Entry doors to cabins are very narrow due to design so a small wheelchair, walker or portly passenger will not fit. Inside the cabins are OK with lots of storage. Nice balconies. Crowds do not permit wheelchairs or walkers through and the concept of a line does not seem to be understood as crowds get larger in front of you unless you push and shove like everyone else. • Very high noise levels particularly in entertainment areas. May exceed 125db. Microphones and music are set at distortion level and many passengers leave theaters or bars due to noise levels. Those who stay must shout to converse. • Staff are generally friendly and accommodating in many languages • Food is good and is Mediterranean for the most part. • Liquor prices are reasonable relative to most cruise ships Key issue is chaotic organization Read Less

It wasn't what I had heard of and what I had expected. In the pool areas there was no control, and organisation. To go in the spa, you had to wait a long time because the people stayed in there for about an 1 hour, and children would occupy the spa and they weren't allowed to go in. At Palma we paid for the shuttle bus, and because weather they suspended the service and we didn't use it after we had paid for it. We had to get a taxi and we weren't compensated. The day we had to leave the ship we had to leave the room at 8.00a.m but the ship arrived at destination at 1.00p.m and all the people that waited to get off were sleeping in the lounges, because they were getting bored, we couldn't even go in the pools because the company didn't give us beach towels. A very negative experience! Read Less

I have been on several cruises, from multiple companies The ship isn't that , The staff were miserable and not nice but I don't blame them because they work such long hard days and get yelled at all day by pushy, customers. The dining options were worst i have ever seen. The buffet was open at terrible hours or not at all. Customers in the dining halls were pushy, rude and didn't know how to wait for anything!! The customers didn't care about the smoking Disembarking at the ports was a nightmare. Everyone was pushing and shoving to get off. It was a disgrace. Once in the port, we had to pay to take buses, organized through the cruise which was very expensive. Everything on this cruise was poorly communicated. We had no idea what was going on half the time, it didn't help that almost all of the announcements were only in Italian. we did not get baggage labels to disembark so had to carry our cases off the ship. As I have said I've cruised with many other companies and have never had any of the issues i had with this company. The entertainment is awful and mostly in Italian. The food in general was nearly all italian os we ate mostly of the kids menu. All in all, this cruise was really awful. Don't bother booking unless you're Italian. But even if I was Italian, I would save my money instead of getting ripped off and book elsewhere . Read Less

The ship is very big. Getting around took some time but slowly we learned where we were going. Embarkation was a breeze. We each had forgotten we had a bottle of something in both checked bags and carry on which was completely ignored. Once onboard the English speaking guests were sequestered for our safety briefing. I was a little worried there were so few of us. I later learned that of the 3000 passengers we only had about 200 English speaking ones. The staff did their best to compensate but so few of us meant we missed out on a lot of things like entertainment and English tours. The staff were very friendly. Our dinner servers Ravirajah and Mina did an awesome job. My lady friend and I had a small table for two in Il Gattopardo upper. I was pleasantly surprised by the dinner food. It was a selection of Italian dishes based upon the region we were sailing near. If those didn't work you could always buy alternatives like Lobster for 15 Euro. We never went hungry as there were always 4 or 5 dishes for dinner plus soup and salad if you wanted. As neither of us drink much we opted out of the all-inclusive. We found that our beverages of choice were priced almost the same in a card or individually so we chose to pay one at a time. (Sodas were 3.30 Euro including gratuity). We were happy to find out that being from North America we had a special option called USAWATER included for free which gave us free water, regular or sparking, with our dinner. Breakfasts were simple and apparently European. Coldcuts, cheeses, pastries, bread, fruit, cereal. Juice, tea, cafe au lait and water was free and unlimited. If we chose to use the restaurant instead of the buffer we could get eggs. North American coffee was non existent, likewise milk to drink. My friend just got hot water and watered the coffee down. We were rarely there for lunch as we were ashore all but 1 day but the buffet choices ranged from sandwiches to burgers to salads. For lunch the only free drink choice was water. Our cabin staff, Michael, did an awesome job and was very friendly. The cabin was large enough. We had 6 english channels to watch but they were all news shows. We had a selection of movies to watch. WIFI onboard was disappointing. Using it on my mini IPAD was extremely slow. It was better to go down and use the chips computers. Instead we went ashore and used wifi cafe's which were abundant everywhere except Palermo. Worse case, almost every McDonalds had free wifi. After doing a ton of research we opted out of the excursions and went ashore on our own. Savona was awesome. We were alongside right near downtown so walked ashore and did some touring and some shopping. Rome was hot. 40C We took the free shuttle out of the port and the 2 euro bus from there to the train station and the train to Rome. Palermo was disappointing. not much to see, and it was very hot. Ibiza, was a pleasant surprise. We chose to walk almost 3 km instead of pay for the expensive shuttle. Apparently the cab back was cheaper than the shuttle. The fortified old town was something to see. Shopping was good. Palma de Mallorca was also a nice stop but very hot. Castle Belver was pleasing. Disembarkation was fairly organized and we were ashore to the free shuttle which dropped us near Las Rambla in Barcelona. If there was one major complaint we had it was the noise. This is not a cruise if you want a restful vacation. Despite the note daily in the newsletter to the contrary, unruly kids inhabited the adult pool non stop. The posted notices about kids under 12 needing supervision were also ignored. We experienced several instance at dinner where children lost it and spent a significant time disturbing everyone at dinner. One family let their children run around UNDER other tables with their toys. Our cabin neighbours slammed their doors day and night and talked loudly on their balcony. In IBIZA, since we departed at 3 am, they were noisy in the hallways til late night. The shows were also way too loud as was the music blaring in every bar and pool area. We did have an overall good time on the ship and in most ports but I would not recommend this cruise to someone unless you were also a party animal. Read Less
