The itinerary was good but book your own tours. Housekeeping and serving staff work very hard on these ships. Staff numbers, food, etc. seemed skimpy and we wondered if liabilities from Costa Concordia are having an impact or if this is how cruise lines are going. If so hope people speak up. No cream for coffee. No ice cream, sorry, Gelato, but told it will be coming soon but you will have to pay..No milk dispenser, juice cut off around 10:00 but often empty before hand.Lots of breads and cheese at breakfast. Oh yes, cold herring, yum!! Buffet food was always luke warm at best and selection poor. Serving plates were often empty or picked over. Food stations closed at specified times and no late snacks available. We found nothing to snack on after 11:00 but to be fair we never did find reliable info on what was available and when. Buffet area area is a cattle crossing. lay out is poor and it is awkward to get to the feeding stations. This from a cruise line that supposedly is all about the dinning experience. Main restaurant poor. Seated with 8 strangers (When tables near window were empty) and had to wait, often over a 1/2 hour to place a meal order. Had the lights turned off several times signifying that the meal was over when we still had not received desert or coffee (Black) I ordered a salad 3 times and never received it I guess asking for no dressing means no salad. I gave up ordering. The waiter had no help and my sense was that he was concerned about asking for it. Some waiters had empty tables but didn't help out others. Cabin was often cleaned before we asked for it to be made up and was not tidied when we later did ask. We sometimes went for breakfast early in the hope of getting a hot breakfast. On return the cabin was made up before we had a shower, so wet towels all day. Speaking with Cabin Steward had no effect. (He sang opera in final show and was quite good) Garbage pails were often not emptied, why would you when you can sing. Too much smoking allowed, on port and starboard boat decks as well as eating area at rear. Come on!! Too many inappropriate speedos!! (Maybe this criticism is a bit unfair but some appeared to be just underwear. But I didn't notice any wallets in the socks that were shoed in sandals. Entertainment: the 1st night was an Abba and the last night was housekeeping, food services and other staff performing Acts. The singers were quite good and the dancers were on stage. It seemed like an attempt to get extra tips for the staff so wages can be kept low. Read Less

We went on this cruise on an invitation to join another couple. It was cheap. We have cruised before and had good experiences. This was not one of them. Ship was small and inefficient. small overcrowded in every way. 2 small pools. 2 tiny hot tubs, that were luke warm at best. But due the ridiculous overcrowding on the boat, even getting access to them was a challenge. The website said there was a roller rink, there was not. Cabin was fine, good service each day. Dining was just ok. Not 'Italian' in nature in the least. Buffets were just ok, if you like being fed like a herd of cattle. They actually were so stingy that they turn off the juice at like 10 in the morning. Of course no beverages were free and one person in a cabin can't buy the package, both have to. Even the late night pizza bar, as it was, was pathetic and not free. 8 dollars for a tiny pizza. I thought this was a cruise, and an Italian one at that. Since when do you pay for food? The late night pizza treat is a given on a cruise, no? Water machines not working regularly either. I swear they would make you pay to use the fountain if they could. Shows were good. What else can you do anyway? Ports were the same old cruise line ran, chaotic, people herding, noisy, affairs they always are. The poor countries we visit don't get a cent. So sad. We did excursions , Bahamas was lovely as we managed to get away from the crowd. Grand Turk nice too. Miami was a disaster for weather. We did a hop on hop off bus tour and there was more water inside the bus than out. They can't do anything about the rain, I understand, but the guide said she calls the boat to inform them to let passengers know that it's not good weather for this and they should tell us. They didn't. And of course the boat charges the excursion to your room card, cuz they own everything. It's infuriating. So we spend a day docked at Miami, then at night, we race out to see again, 30 miles (so they can run the casino and serve alcohol, international waters) and we just sit there, drop anchor and get tossed back and forth all night. I threw up from the motion sickness that I don't usually suffer from. Then we head back into Fort Lauderdale and get off. My teenagers were so unimpressed and miserable. You actually had to pay to play ping pong. Can you believe that? We have done a Holland America older crowd cruise which they loved. I will never ever go on a Costa boat again and am avidly warning others not to go. Check your boat people, find out about the little details. The whole landscape of cruising has changed and not for the good.. It's not a vacation. You are not pampered. The 'amenities' are terrible. You are crowded and miserable on a floating tank of greed. Just come back from Costa Fortuna, can never be worse! 1. My wife got hurt seriously in one of the viewing elevator with a narrower inner half. She got bumped at the sharp angle while forcing back by an incoming flooding crowd of passengers. Why didn't they installed some protective layers on the angles to protect their customers? 2. Shower: very weak. Repairman said already fixed. Hard to take bath normally! 3. Air conditioning: too warm. Repairman said already fixed. Must be on. No one can turn it off. You just can change the combination of hot air and cold air. The problem was even we turn it to all cold air, it is still pumping out warm air. It made us sick throughout the journey. 4. Difficult to locate some restaurants. No straight road. You have to go upstairs and go downstairs again to some of the places. 5. Not really free from smoking in non-smoking areas, both outdoor & indoor! 6. Change of itinerary with short notice. 7. No free toothbrushes, no free toothpaste, no free bottled water. Why didn't they inform us in advance? 8. Only two sockets (including one in bathroom) for 2-round-pin electric plug, no sockets for 3-flat-pin electric plug type G (that of United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Malaysia & Singapore etc.). No changer, adaptor or extended sockets provided. 9. No free Wi-Fi and all paid Wi-Fi are very weak. Passengers of cabin 1005, 26th to 30th December, 2017 (with Vietnam onshore on 2017.12.28). I called Costa Cruise in Miami to find out information before getting on the ship regarding payments onboard and other pre boarding questions. Each question was answered incorrectly and when we boarded we were in for many surprises. On the first night of the cruise, were were FORCED to purchase a drink package for each of our three children on the ship who were staying in their own cabin. Two were full alcohol and the third was the soda/water package. On the second morning of the cruise one of our kids had a few bites on his neck. The next day another child had several bites on his stomach. That child had seen and killed a bug on his brother's bed. We immediately reported the incident to the Hospitality desk. They took all the kids clothes and luggage and washed them and sent the kids to the ships hospital where they proceeded to give a cream treatment to the child that had more bites. Turned out that child was allergic to the detergent used on the ship and had to return a second time to the hospital where he received a shot of steroids and more medication. From there the trip went downhill and as much as the staff thought they were doing for us to make this right, anything that was done was more to benefit Costa Cruise Lines. Since child number 2 was not able to use his drink package while on the medication the other one that is old enough did not drink either(its not fun to drink alone). The ship would not refund all the drink packages they forced us to purchase, only the one for the child on the medication. The first dining room could not accommodate the five of us at the same table so we had to find the maitre d' for the second night to change our dining option since its the one week per year we get to spend together. They gave us the second seating in the dining room which was 9:00pm. The service was so slow we did not finish dinner until almost midnight. We then decided to try the anytime dining. Because we changed our dining option after the first night, we were charged per person for the change. The restaurant manager couldn't have been nicer though and the rest of the cruise did not charge for the change. The food on the ship was very mediocre and to eat gluten free anything as my diet requires, the only option I was given was to eat in the dining room. None of the buffets during the day or even room service has gluten free from what I was told. Basically I had one meal per day! Having adult children, they were looking for nighttime entertainment in the disco or other areas of the ship. The disco had 13-17 year olds enjoying their time leaving our children feeling uncomfortable to be in the same disco. They were very underwhelmed having very little 21-25 adult activity. The communication was poor across the board. We had to search for ourselves to get any information about the ships activities or entertainment. We felt as though we were a very unwelcomed group of travelers as well as other travelers that fit our profile, we all felt the same way. The overall attitude of the staff was disinterested in doing anything to work when all we were looking for was help. The rolling of their eyes when we approached them and poor bodily language was a reinforcement of their behaviors. This is not a ship we would recommend to any of our peers! Read Less

Greatly recommend to those who are keen to go for a cruise managed by a poor management who always put on an "unhappy" face on all their cruise with no proper instructions given and when questions were raised by their guest to their crew, the standard reply was "I don't know, please check with another crew.". Also if you do not wish that the crew to enter your cabins, do remember to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign at your door as our room was entered multiple times for no particular reasons even though we didn't call for housekeeping and we realised that our laptop had been touched ( as we left room for a short time to attend their concert, we left our laptop open and when we were back, it was closed and the whole room was pitch dark - even side table lights were offed. ) When asked to the information counter, they said we didn't put "DTD" thus the crews can enter and leave anytime they like. Toilets were filled with moulds at bathing area, beds were stained with black stains even after a housekeeping session done.. Smoke can be smelt along the corridor of the cabins, insufficient kettles available as well. The adapter given by the crew had sparks coming out from it when it was plucked it and when asked for an exchange, the crew said that they ran out of it. Long queues during meal times and there was no one controlling the crowd nor guiding the passengers. Ice cream stall only open for 1 meal throughout the 5 days of cruise. Speciality restaurant does not offer all indicated food items and we were not told before we sat down for our meal. Waste of money. There is 3 eating area for the passengers, however, only 2 is available as 1 is converted to "FOR SUITE" passengers only. We purchased the non-alcoholic beverage package but the crew would keep on telling us that the non-alcoholic drinks are not included and we had to pay extra (don't buy package as they don't honour it). No proper lightings near the swimming pool where some kids are found running in dark as well which is very dangerous. Entertainment were the same for the 5 days. Poor management on disembarkation and embarkation as well as no proper direction nor instructions given, announcement system is also not clear. Overall, its a waste of money and time, both my partner and I are very displeased with the service provided, management control, experience, condition of the cabin and the embarkation and disembarkation process. This is not our first time cruising on a cruise liner but it will be the first time and LAST TIME cruising with COSTA VICTORIA. Read Less

I am eager to write this review in order to increase this cruise rating. After my mom paid for this cruise, she did a bit of research about Costa Victoria. Mostly was awful, so we almost cancelled our cruise and let the money go instead of wasting our time. But it is our last trip with my brother before he went overseas, so we decided to go. And seriously, this is my first cruise and it is AWESOME! well, for me the ship was huge (although they said it's a small ship). Food was FREE (even for semi fine dining version), unlimited and great (especially for indian food), but you have to pay for other premium drinks. the timing was PERFECT (23 Dec at 22.00 until 27 Dec 14.00). I respect all of the crew members that give their best effort to serves us day and night with their best smile to ensure our best experience on cruise (THANK YOU!). The cabin design is old fashioned, but CLEAN, they clean our cabin twice a day. Endless parties and event for sure. Definitely WORTH IT for their value for money. To get this personal, I'm 22 yrs old and I came from Indonesia. Not really the best cruise for my age, but I totally recommend this cruise for FAMILY who had kids around 12 yrs old. Read Less

Chose this cruise with 9 family members over the Christmas Holiday. It wasn't overpriced like many over the holiday, so we thought this would be a good choice but we all wished we had paid more for another cruise line, like Celebrity, Princess and Royal Caribbean who we have traveled with many times. Two of our family members traveled with Costa many years ago and said it was wonderful. I guess after the Costa ship sunk in Italy a few years ago, they haven't been the same ever since and I really wanted this one to sink as well!!!! We were unable to sit together because they messed up our seating arrangement and we were all separated. They continually said there was nothing they could do!!! Really???? We ended up having to eat at the buffet in order to be together. We had to "pay" for a private dinner for Christmas Eve just to be together and it was absolutely horrible!!! Overall the service, food, and willingness to fix problems was absolutely horrible! Soooo disorganized!! Couldn't get butter, they ran out of water, coffee, juice and ice continually!!! Italian ship with no ice cream or Gelato, really????? Had to leave a sign everyday for my steward to remind him that we needed ice. When I didn't put out a note, we got no ice!! I have been on 12 cruises and yes there are some better than others, however, this was absolutely the lowest of low cruises I have ever been on. So disappointing especially since it was over Christmas!!! I could write a list of things that went wrong every single day, but then this would turn out to be a book! DO NOT EVER TAKE THIS CRUISE AND THIS PARTICULAR SHIP!!!! Unless you want a terrible experience!!!! Read Less

**Please do not ever take Costa Victoria Ship, Italian Cruises.** My purpose for this post is not to complain, but more of making sure that the public do not get the same poor experience as I did. I went with my family (as a group of 20) and here is a brief summary of what happened in the 4d3n cruise experience (Starting from the most pertinent problem to trivial ones) 1. Bedbugs Upon entering the cabin, my cousin and I checked for bedbugs but all seemed clear and the cabin looked decent. When I returned to my cabin at 3am and after showering and lying down on the bed for a while, I started feeling itchy around my back and neck. I got up to check in the mirror and saw clusters of bites and I guessed my worst fears came true. I immediately went to check my bed and noticed a couple of tiny bloodstains which were not there previously. Then I saw some live bedbugs under my blanket which I killed. I did not want to wake my cousin to change the room immediately as it was already very late and we were going to wake up early the next day hence I waited it out. The following morning, I saw an even larger bedbug below my pillow. (to be continued) 2. Response to situation a. My cousin and I went to the information counter to inform them of the situation. The first response from the staff? "You sure it's bed bugs? Did you see the actual insect?" Instead of showing concern for the customer, their first response was to attempt to weasel out of the situation and divert the blame. With some reluctance, they offered to conduct an investigation (to ascertain if I was lying) and asked me to check back the counter in an hours' time. After 2 hours, they finally finished their "investigation" and the first option they offered was: To do a thorough cleaning of room and change of bedsheets, not a change of room. In cases of bedbugs, deep cleaning is required and is normally done by professionals that have the necessary tools and chemical to exterminate bedbugs but they said 2 hours of cleaning would get rid of the bugs. Of course, we would not accept that and eventually got a change of room and before we moved into our new room, we had to go back up to the old cabin to retrieve our luggage. When we got up, the room looks new and clean, with bed sheets changed as well (They probably noticed the bloodstains and some bedbugs) and there I saw 1 bedbug crawling by the side (As shown in the video attached). ** After our cruise, there is another batch of passengers and there is no time to conduct deep cleaning of the rooms. (I'd leave it to you to imagine what is going to happen) b. I asked for some cream to apply on the bites to stop the itch and inflammation - they said they do not have any cream - If I go to the medical center I have to pay for it (despite me sustaining the bites onboard) [to be continued] 3. Medical Center There was a SECOND incident of bedbugs in a separate room (of my uncle's), so I tried again on the following day and finally understanding the severity of the situation, they offered to bring me to the medical center on the ship's account. - Went there, sat for 30 minutes while the Italian doctors/medic were conversing in Italian even though it is a straightforward case: Saw the picture of the bug, inspect the bite, and prescribe me the cream - Amidst their conversation, my cousin and I figured from the English words they used "Complaint", "Ship's account", "Bedbugs", "report", and they finally gave me the cream and 2 of them talked amongst themselves, suggesting "Allergy" - From our inference, the waiting time was for them to determine how to write their report so as to absolve the blame from the ship, probably by claiming that I had allergies rather than getting bedbug bites. 4. Facilities / Activities Limited entertainment facilities: - Spa (That was an indoor pool with cold seawater) - Gym (Was decent) - Sauna (Too small) - Theatre (Which has almost no activities) - Outdoor pool (1 baby pool, 4 jacuzzis, 1 normal pool of only 10m) - Card Room (Looks decent but we did not use it) - Casino (Outdated and combined withthe kid's arcade, which is extremely inappropriate) - Kids' club (Acts as a childcare centre, which is actually not bad) - Disco (That I have no idea what it's for) - Basketball court (The only thing that is at the top deck) - DFS Repeated/boring activities: - Seminars (Often conducted under different names but it's the same activity) - Some dance classes - Italian lesson (1 hour on the 3rd day?) **The activities may not be bad, but there is limited engagement because the staff are simply not passionate enough and passengers can feel it. **No free drinking water, not even water dispensers, everything has to be paid for (Even those in the suites only get 1 bottle a day) 5. Service ***** After playing in the casino, I went to ask for some water. - The staff said I can only get bottled water - I asked if there was plain water - She said "Do you want bottled water or tap water?" - I asked, "Is the tap water drinkable?" (Knowing that ship's tap water is not potable) - "No" - If the tap water is not drinkable, why would she even offer that?! If it's others who did not know, she would have given it to them. - Hard to get smiles on the staff - Staff works extremely slow (It takes us around 40 mins to be served in the restaurants) [Most likely due to lack of enthusiasm and culture created from top-down] 5. Feedback form - Towards the end of the cruise, some of us had to attend the disembarking briefing, and they wanted us to fill up this feedback form - Instead of asking for our sincere feedback and ways in which they could improve upon, they EXPLICITLY stated that for Q1: How has your cruise experience been? [ We should fill in Excellent only] & Q16: Would you recommend Costa Victoria to your friends and family? [ We should fill in 'Yes, definitely!'] - That night, they made 2 announcements to submit our feedback form and EMPHASIZED to fill in the 2 questions as suggested - The following morning, at 0900 hrs and 0930 hrs, they made the same announcement re-emphasizing the need to fill in the 2 questions as such. **A good cruise would never have to worry about customers' feedback. The fact that they constantly reminded us to answer the questions in a certain way made a lot of us sick to the stomach. 6. Food / Miscellaneous I wish Gordon Ramsay was there -- it would have been 'Cruise Nightmares'. The food was so trashy that it was a slimming cruise for me. - In one of the photos, is the crabs where the gills are not even removed (One of the dirtiest parts of the crab) - Lobsters: For the first 3 days, we had the option to pay USD15 to purchase a lobster meal, but on the 3rd night, we were offered that option. It was not fresh to the extent that it tasted like mashed potato stuffed in lobster shells. - Steak: Felt stale and had a gross aftertaste, something I never had before - So-called fine dining experience: Is actually 'recycled' food from the buffet area. - Virtually nothing was beyond edible, even those that we had to pay for (E.g. USD8.50 pizzas that used frozen dried shrimps that had a stale taste) - However, the desserts are generally not bad. This whole experience has been so bad (and you can see the aftermath of the bites I suffered, not just limited to the back). We paid about 400+USD for 4D3N but there were so many other costs, such as COMPULSORY tips, paid water, paid food, paid activities. Until now, Royal Carribean still remains the best experience one can have (Having a dedicated crew that serves you during meal time, polite staff, fun activities and a myriad of onboard activities to do) So, please, I implore anyone out there who is considering a cruise trip to not scrimp on 200USD and just go for Royal Carribean, not Costa Cruise. We chose this cruise because of the great port calls; Italy, athens, olympia, Kotor, and Split. The destinations did not disappoint. They were fantastic and we avoided much of the crowds by cruising in the winter. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to explore Venice before our cruise departed as Easyjet canceled the flight. Needless to say, we had to scramble to find alternative transportation to Venice and it cost us an extra day of travel. The embarkation and disembarkation was extremely smooth at Venice. We had no issues getting on the ship four hours before the departure. Customs was smooth and friendly and this was the easiest embarkation we have experienced. The Luminosa allows you to embark or disembark at any of the port calls but I'm unsure how smooth the process was at the other locations. Like other reviewers, we found the Luminosa to be average. Compared to other cruises, the food was disappointing. Mainly pasta dishes and you pay extra for the dishes that are included on other cruises such as steak and lobster. Costa cruise lines charges extra for things like coffee, bottled water, ice cream, and even pizza. We found the layout of the cruise ship to be very similar to other cruise lines of this size. Spa on the 9th floor near the front of the ship, cafeteria style dining on the ninth floor, restaurant on the 2nd floor, casino, bars, etc. Our classic cabin with a balcony was nice; easily accommodating two adults and two children. The cabin was well insulated but we did hear some children running in the cabin above us. Thankfully, no issue with neighbors that smoke. The kids club seemed fine. My nine year old only went a few times but there didn't seem to be any language barriers. The teen club, however, was given over for infant space. As a result, the teens didn't really have a place to hang out and they would meet on various parts of the ship. It was a poor compromise and our teenage daughter, whom usually likes the teen club, chose not to participate on this cruise. It is apparent the crew is overworked. We were told they work 13 hour days for nine months without a day off. Our steward was responsible for around 20 cabins and it showed. Although hard working and friendly, you could tell the staff was stressed. Also, be prepared for lots of Italians and a lack of personal space and no regard for queues. Of course, this happens with other nationalities as well. Also, the announcements must have been in at least three languages which got tedious after a while. We did not attend any of the entertainment options but other passengers had good reviews for the nightly entertainment. All in all, we had a good cruise thanks to the port calls. Costa Luminosa has the potential to be a great cruise ship. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and overworked staff prevent the experience from rising to the next level. I would recommend the ship to those who are excited about visiting European ports and the timing works or the Luminosa price is significantly less than the competitors. Otherwise, it would be wise to consider other cruise ships. Read Less

I guess we went with an open mind. As they say..." when in Rome - do as the Romans do" so we adjusted our expectations but ended up enjoying the experience of an Italian themed ship - from the over the top Italian decor to pasta everyday with our meals. We were worried after reading the reviews but I realized that North Americans just cruise differently from Europeans...no bottomless ice teas and lemonades, coffees and teas limited to breakfasts and merendas, lots of pasta, but we got to enjoy Osso Buco, gnocchis, bombolones for breakfast, olive oil and balsamic with your bread instead of butter and many more...Honestly - I enjoyed the food more than the other cruise lines that we've been on. Service was up to par in the restaurants and cabin but they can do a better job communicating with the English speaking passengers. First night apparently was an All-White party and we obviously did not get the memo as we showed up dressed in black...hahaha. Enjoyed the dance lessons and live entertainment was available in many of the bars and clubs. Overall - it was a pleasant experience. Read Less
