We were really excited to be going on the costa fortuna cruise ship. We arranged for the appropriate visas for cambodia, travel insurance and up to date passports as these were required documentations by costa, otherwise you would be denied boarding the cruise. Well to start off, we were not even asked for these documentations upon arrival and second, we did not need to do the visas as costa would have arranged the visa while on board. The food was horrible, at the buffet and for 2 weeks it was same for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the so called bacon they served was burnt that it looked like it was cremated. Coffee was only served at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Other cruise we did had coffee and snacks available 24/7. Bad luck if you went on an excursion and returned late as after 2pm doors were closed and reopened at 7pm. Hand sanitizers in the eating areas were often empty or broken. With the Corona virus around you would think that COSTA would have someone at each point where the sanitizers were to insure people used them before entering the buffet area but not one attended was ever present Now, for the dinner reservation at the fancy restaurants, well the meals were not that spectacular either, you had to pay for the water where it was free in the buffet. The constant italian music, daily games which were more like you play at a kid’s parties were in italian. The nightly shows in the theatre again were in italian and again were not spectacular, people walked out numerous times. Restrooms are so hard to find they were hidden outside in a corner because they blended in with the wallpaper. The staffs at the reception desk were arrogant and not very helpful and would get irritated if you asked them a question. Every day an argument would occur between guests and staff. Take the case of the daily mandatory fee of 10 euros per person per day for services in cleaning the cabins {doing the beds and showers}. I guarantee that the sheets had not been changed not once in the 14 days we were there With so many of us complaining, a meeting was arranged with an english speaking lady from hospitality. When asked about the visas we were asked to do for cambodia, she replied that costa does not ask guests to do visas as they are arranged by costa fortuna for a fee of 40 euros for everyone whether they were going ashore or not. When i presented a copy of the email i had received from costa her response after reading was, that’s unfortunite for you yes it was unfortunate as it all cost us $150 each person. Another question was raised by a fellow passenger regarding the so called 10 euros per person for room cleaning. We were told it is a gratuity fee that goes to the cleaners. We already paid $ gratuity. Passengers were not happy and when they complained, we were told, “if you don't like the ship you can get off. For a couple of seconds everyone sat there looking stunned at what they heard then all hell broke loose. We were in the middle of the ocean, where did she expect us to go. At the end of the cruise all english speaking guests were to attend a meeting for brief instructions on the day of disembarkation we were also instructed and i quote again, to rate costa fortuna a 10 because if we don’t, the crew members will not receive there bonas. Costa fortuna that is bribery. Not going to do what you asked. Worse cruise ever. Costa fortuna was a big mistake. So if you’re thinking of doing a cruise with them you better think twice. Read Less

poor as already expected "If you go on a cruise for the first time you might find the Costa Mediterranea great. But in my case , i had been at a Royal Caribean Cruise before , and i had already this impression that Costa wouldn't be at the same level... and in fact i was not mistaken.... i was travelling at Costa Mediterranea from 14 to 29/2 and the reason was because i was very much interested in the itinerary, so i thought it was worth trying, It started right from the beggining , when i felt massified among lots of people that behaved like animals in the eating time . Costa Mediterranea has a poor buffet , in terms of quality , and organization . Sometimes was kind of chaotic the lunch time, no place to seat , food was not located in the same room , so we had to look for fruit or other in other corners /rooms. i also remark the rudness of the Cruise Director , an austrian member of the crew that was scolding an young man of the crew that was explaining to us how to access internet , and he was using a table , and this rude director said to him that the table was not there for this purpose ... even seeing that he was talking to us ...he didn't care we were watching his ruduness.. but the worse thing was still about to come: i bought 3 packs of 1 GB internet each , that costed 65€/each , and in my account board there were invoiced 5 packs.... one of it , it had been consumpted in 1 hour!!! when i was only reading my emails and sending some whatsapp messages/phone calls , it was not possible to use 1 GB in such a short period of time. I have claimed and explained this , but they didn't accept the claim by saying that they confirmed the 2 extra puchases had been made by my mobil phone, so i had to pay. One person of my group that only bought a pack of 25€ for social networks , was debited 110€ correspondant to a 3 GB pack , and he also claimed because he didn't buy that pack ... and they said that was a mistake , so the debit was cancelled. i understand that internet in Costa Cruisers doesn't work properly , so my advise to every passenger traveling with Costa is to not to buy internet packs on board or to check on a dayly basis and carefully the board account to avoid these problems and not to have unpleasant surprises. the only positive moment and service , was the entertainement shows in the evenings, they were good and well performed. However , this was not enough to have a global positive opinion , so i wouldn't reccomend Costa Cruise at all in particular Costa Mediterranea" Read Less

We're Emerald on another line so we're experienced cruisers and have cruised many different brands. This ship was going where we wanted, when we wanted to go. Our usual travel agent wouldn't book this for us due to so many of her customers that had complaints about Costa. It's disappointing how horrible this was. The staff get paid tips no matter how bad the service is so they don't care and are rather flippant. Drinks that were advertised, they were out of, including Draft Beer. REALLY??? The food was the exact same every single day. The excursions we chose were canceled so if we wanted to go on their excisions, we had to scramble. It was just so disappointing. We complained at the desk but, although they spoke English, they just rolled their eyes and really appeared not to care in the least. They should be ashamed of themselves. It was embarrassing to expect we'd have a descent experience. Read Less

Horrible staff. Horrible Rules. Horrible Ship. 1. 1. Don't expect to drink any water on board without paying. We found one, YES 1, free tap water on the entire ship. Located on deck 8 in the buffet area. But you aren't allowed to leave the buffet area with any food or drinks to any time you are thirsty plan on hiking up to deck 8, guzzling as much water as you can, and hope you aren't thirsty for another 5 hours. Anywhere else on the ship will charge you over $4 for water. And don't expect to ever see ice on this ship. 2. Bad staff. It's probably not all their fault, I would blame the management for the horrible rules they have. One day at sea we were trying to enjoy ourselves and play a little cards, we got kicked out of 5 different places on the ship before we gave up. These were open areas at bars, the gelateria, etc. that had decent tables we could sit at. The staff was rude and told us we couldn't plat cards and told us to leave but never gave us any suggestions on where we might be able to play. 3. FOOD. This ship is anti food. They say they want to conserve waste but that is just a cover up to save money. You have a 15 minute window each evening to be seated in the dining area. We should up 10 minutes late one night and were turned away. The buffet is only open for 90 minutes for dinner. If you miss these time windows, tough crap, don't expect to eat until breakfast. 4. Exercise. They have a wonderful exercise facility. Just don't expect to use it. The facility doesn't open till 8am. Most ships are 24 hours. Not this one. Most of our ports were around 7 to 8 am. So we were off the ship before they would even allow you in to exercise. HORRIBLE. 5. Entertainment. If you are American and only speak English....don't come on this ship for the entertainment. Not a single English Speaking show, and the few shows that translated to English, don't expect to understand the translations with the bad accents. 6. Finally, at the end of our Cruise our ship was quarantined for 16 hours while a passenger was checked for a virus. This is very understandable, safety precautions need to be take, however, the crew and staff were horrible to work with during this experience. No special accommodations were made to help make the 2000+ passengers that were supposed to disembark that day. We were all kicked out of our staterooms and told to sit in a bar area while things were figured out. No water was available without charge. We simply sat in a very crowded area with our luggage for 16 hours. The crew and staff did nothing to inform us of the situation. We got our information from the news cameras outside the ship. Never, Never, Never sail with Costa. Read Less

This 3 week old ship was a disappointment compared to Costa Diadema (commenced service 2014) and other older Costa ships I’ve cruised on. The design emphasis was over the top. The furniture for example, whilst I’m sure was deigned by ‘top’ trendy designers, mostly lacked ordinary functionality - uncomfortable, too low, didn’t fit the average person. Some chairs were so heavy you could hardly move them even with two hands. Costa Diadema decor is much nicer. Entertainment decks layout Is also inferior to Diadema. The dance floors are smaller and the main one has columns in the middle of it and limited seating around it. The second dance floor was tiny and the band set up on that. In Diadema the main dance floor was centrally positioned but it has been moved to the end of ship on Smeralda next to theatre. In the centre is now a performance area with a floor not suitable for dancing. Seating around it is limited and poorly designed. I would not go on Smeralda again. I’ll stick with Diadema. Read Less

We thought it would be more for adults. Wanted diversity with other nationalities. Wait staff and bartenders were very nice. Costa excursions are a far cry from being organized.Recommend going on your own as Costa tends to forget about you once you are off the ship. This company wants to nickel and dime you for everything. Very pushy about buying extras. Stated many times not interested but they persisted and honestly made the cruise much less enjoyable. The ship was clean and the crew were only doing there job, but Costa in general is to worried about getting every dollar they can. This makes for a negative experience. We went on excursions thru Costa and met other passengers form Costa that ended up in the same place as we did for a fraction of the price. Prime example; Atlantis excursion we were bused to the entrance and dumped off, we were not given a pickup time or place and thankfully found another Costa excursion rep and were eventually taken to the pick up area. The excursions were so unorganized most passengers asked many times about what they were supposed to do or where to go. Our English speaking representative did not seem to be to interested in helping. He spoke to the whole group but didn't want to be bothered with any questions. Costa has been taken off my list of cruise lines. Read Less

We, as a group of couples, decided that we would like to be on a New Year’s Eve cruise. This was one that had an itinerary, and price that we were interested in. Check in went well and was efficient. The rooms were a great size and had tons of storage. Not happy with not having a turn down service, but, found that that was the least of our problems. The first night at dinner, I decided to order meatballs and some pasta. This was seriously the worst meatballs I’ve ever seen. They were made with the teeny tiny portion or the melon baller. They usually y give you only three but he said he would give me a large order. Everyone at the table actually broke out in laughter when then saw the size of the meatballs. Then we tried to get drinks when we first sat down and was told they don’t do drink service in the dining room. We finished dinner and went to the bar. The bar’s didn’t have cranberry juice. Our friend only drank cosmos. Only one bar had cranberry. Someone else decided to have a Bloody Mary. No bloody Mary mix. No tomato juice either. Then, my husband drinks crown (in our drink package). All out. Had to go to a different bar. If all of us were together and we wanted t-o drink , we had to follow each other to different bars so we could all get our drink of choice. We went to the pool. The pool bar said they don’t stock crown. They didn’t have cranberry either, and they ran out of Bloody Mary mix. I even approached the bar manager. He did make sure we had cranberry, but the rest were missing. Most ships give you all of the ice cream you want. On this one you had t-o buy it. Water too. The tv was ridiculously small. The shows were ok but the translation after Italian, French German, Spanish was so long. The muster on the first night at nine o’clock took 45 minutes. Tiresome and frustrating. There was little to no communication on this ship. Most staff didn’t speak English. The topper was when I met a family that the father/father in law took them all on a cruise. He , as it turns out. Was the former president of costa cruise line. He gets free trips. He said he wouldn’t go on another costa cruise. Now for the food. On New Year’s Eve we picked lobster. The absolute worst thing EVER. It was not a full lobster but sliced in half and you only got half. Of that half, there was , maybe , a quarter of an ounce of lobster in the tail (I’m being generous). It was over cooked. You didn’t know how little there was because the tail was filled with potatoes. Ugh! The claw was so overcooked that you couldn’t prey the meat out. Not that you had the opportunity to because they never gave you a fork that would fit in the claw. We were all so disappointed. We had a cruise booked on the costa favulouso. We canceled. We were also unhappy with the crew. They seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Almost all had attitudes. The bartenders were awful. We asked for a mudslide and they said they don’t make them.....company policy. Never again Read Less

This cruise was a last minute decision and I was skeptical of the low fare, but booked the 10 day cruise out of Ft Lauderdale and traveled with 10 friends. I have traveled the last two years with Viking and had 3 previous cruses with different lines and I have to admit that my experience with Costa on the Luminosa exceeded my expectations. Was it perfect? No. But I have very little to complain about. I don’t understand the food complaints. The dining room food was as good or better than Viking. The service was a little slow, but we had 11 at our table and there were few mistakes. The buffet on deck 9 was equally good...both breakfast and lunch. The pizza was good and always available. Wonderful fruit and pastries. There was a full selection of onboard activities. My group participated in the 4 dance classes offered most days. The show each night was entertaining and no problem getting seating . There was live music in numerous locations and plenty of dance floor. My cabin was the largest I’ve had on a cruise; elevators were quick; and I thought the decor was uniquely Italian...beautiful. Language no problem. Cons: only two electrical outlets in cabin; one in bath and one across from bed...non on headboard wall. No free wi-fi. Two of the excursions were more about selling you merchandise than anything else. IAll-in-all, very pleased and will cruise with them again. Read Less

It sounded like fun to sail away for the Christmas holiday but it was last minute and many cruises were booked. Along comes Costa with their fantastic itinerary and price. I read many negative reviews before sailing but I am here to tell all of you and especially those of you in the US, not to pay attention to the negative reviews. Embarkation was the fastest we have had out of 6 cruises including Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Carnival and MSC. We arrived about an hour after they said we could embark and got right on the ship with no waiting. Our room key was in the room so we went directly there and while checking out our cabin, the suitcases were delivered! The balcony cabin on deck 7 was like any other balcony cabin room we have had however there was much more storage space on Luminosa. The ship is immaculate at all times. We had a service problem with the only American electric outlet in the room but it was fixed immediately. Entertainment crew does their best to get everyone involved. There is sometimes a language barrier but it wasn't an issue. Our one and only issue was that the cruise director spoke mostly in Italian and when he spoke in English it was so rushed we couldn't understand. Food was outstanding. The buffet is open several hours a day. The restaurant was entertaining. Excursions were well organized and we enjoyed our very much. Disembarkation was organized and very fast. All in all, we had a wonderful time on Luminosa and it was a terrific value for the money! Read Less

I was really excited to go on this cruise ship, as it was going to Thailand and Cambodia and starting at Singapore. It was for an affordable price and it was going to Asia, so why not! First off, the food was beyond horrible, and that’s an understatement. I’ve been on around 10 cruises and I know what good food tastes like on cruises, so when comparing it to other cruises, this one was at the very bottom. Every day they had the same exact thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the buffet. Usually, other cruise ships change it up a bit, but no, this one had the same exact food for 8 days... Also, the times were so short for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We basically only had 1 hour to 2 hours to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the other cruises we had either 4 hours or they offered a 24/7 option for those late night snacks. Dinner ended here at 8:30 and it opened at 7, the dining area was always so packed and filled with hectic people because everyone was trying to get some food at the same time... horrible. This happened every single day. Whenever we arrived back from a city we got dropped off at, it would be around 3/4 pm and we were getting a bit hungry at this point, so we would go and look for some snacks, BUT WAIT! THEY DIDNT SERVE DINNER UNTIL 7! So we had to starve and wait until then. This made me even more frustrated because they didn’t serve snacks like other cruises did at a time when people would come back from a city outside. They however had “tea time” from 5-6, but they would serve some desserts and tea and coffee... the desserts tasted like leftovers from the day before throughout the whole trip. They also only served coffee and tea during tea time and breakfast, it wasn’t served during lunch and dinner at the buffet and restaurant like how other cruises have it. Now, for the dinner reservation at the fancy restaurants. Sadly, it was also horrible. The food was just not good, it wasn’t seasoned well, their asian food was cooked by an Italian chef and he butchered it (no offense). Usually the food at the restaurant is supposed to be better than the buffet, but this cruise made it that the buffet food was a bit better than the restaurant food, which is not saying much AT ALL. I barely ate my food at the restaurant because it truly was that bad. Another thing, some crew members were so rude to me, especially the older Italian (I think?) buffet chef. I was grabbing a piece of fruit from the buffet that was closed but I didn’t know, then he goes and yells at me and just keeps raising his voice and saying “What are you doing? No, no no you can’t do that what are you doing, go to the other buffet just go” like is that how you are supposed to treat your guests? How rude. I did not appreciate that AT ALL. Just tell me excuse me but we are closed. That is all you need to tell me and I would get the point. These things made my experience unenjoyable in my opinion. The shows are good but that is about it. Restrooms are so hard to find, they either blend in with the wallpaper or they are hidden outside in a corner you can only access when going through a little alley. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. We have just been on our first cruise with Celebrity so of course we compared We come from Canada so we flew to Fort Lauderdail,. We enjoyed the ease of getting onto the ship, we loved our room, our steward was great "boy they work hard". We had the early dinner in the restaurant, The first problem i had was no plug to work for my cpap machine but the English Rep on the boat sorted that out and our lesson was learned yes I had already learned to take an extension cord. The food was an issue but only because I have an allergy to the protein in Milk not lactose intolerant no sensitivities but a full blown allergy, which means no butter milk cheese yogurt cheese and think about baking and butter and milk are in most things so it makes like hard for me. The restaurant manager sorted this out by me ordering my meal for the evening the day prior. Lesson for me to take a list of foods I like for breakfast and lunch we were placed in another section of the restaurant along with others who needed different things, in one way it was great as I met a lady from Germany who had the same problem as myself we could not speak much about the situation but we hugs in understanding. The ship is spotless in every way. The entertainment in the theater was great, we know most of the time its there own staff who put on the shows but for 45 minutes we were entertained we did have a great singer who was shipped in, we also had a very very bendy lady and her partner they were brilliant, so no complaints about the entertainment. Now the activities were so much dam fun, the restaurant staff entertained us I danced with my waiter "who i will say was very cute" we did the conga around the eating area so much fun. They also have a great dance area for real dancing which was great to watch others do, but they also had a crew of young people for line dancing and games we did win some pickle bats and a tote bag it was so much fun to join in.. IF you don't join in you miss out on having fun Im 68 and i set out to have fun with my hubby and it was great. Our time on shore was great ANYONE WHO GOES TO JAMAICA do go on the bob slay don't use the brakes trust and enjoy your ride its fantastic. Would we ever go on this boat again HELL YES Im just waiting for a cruise I can afford again. I would love to do a transatlantic cruise with them but the flights to get from or to the ship costs to much right now.. AS soon as we can we will be back. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was advertised so well, sounded fantastic and went to places we had not been. It was really disappointing on our second night at first seating for dinner I found a hair in my dessert, I received no apology, never heard if anything was said or done about this apart from being given another dessert, which I did not eat. The food in the buffet was always the same, no changes to menu ever! If you wanted butter the chef had to hunt it down, none supplied for rolls or bread. English teabags my suggestion would be bring your own, they run out after day 1 and the server Christina sniggered and rolled her eyes if you dared to request this. Slide was only opened 4 hours a day, imagine the queue. They had a power blackout, no notices on lifts so when you arrived back from day trip the staff smiled at all the people trying to get lifts to operate, it wasn't until we reached 5 th level someone could actually tell us power had been out for hours, so no lunch, first sitting an hour late second sitting was told 10 pm but that was cancelled and the guests told to go to buffet. Gala night what a joke, was not worthy of my husband even opening his suit bag. Staff were rude, never acknowledged you unless you dared to be in their way and then they just brushed past you. Water/ice machines deck 9 did not work. We were asked if there was any special occasion, we advised 2 of our group were celebrating significant birthdays, not acknowledged at all. When we first saw the prices of the cruise and the advantages of it all, it seemed too good to be true... BACKGROUND: We booked the 15 day Indian Ocean Cruise with one night in a hotel in Mauritius (with a *drink upgrade* stopping in Seychelles, Madagascar, Reunion, and Mauritius) with the round trip airfare from London Heathrow for 2 people for $5739, wow this is going to be awesome! We booked it well over 8 months in advance through Logitravel with Iris Madico. Iris booked it for us and was responsive and helped us out with any questions we had.... what we hoped they would have provided was a warning about Costa cruise’s upgrading schemes, disgusting food, and horrid service! Almost immediately onboard we found out that Costa’s main objective was to take advantage of us and milk us out of as much money as they could. The package included: o round trip flight from London Heathrow to Mauritius airport o one night stay at Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel (4/5 star hotel at the port) o 15 days in a “premium balcony” cabin with a drink package (during booking there were only two types of cabins, premium and standard) o private transfer from the airport to the hotel o private transfer to the cruise o private transfer back to the Mauritius airport. The excursions were extra but we estimated 1700-1800 euros for 2 excursions in Seychelles, 2 in Madagascar, 1 in Reunion, and 1 in Mauritius. This sounded like a great deal. We wouldn’t have to pay for anything else besides tips, dinner/lunch off the ship, souvenirs, and incidentals. We got our own round trip flight from Los Angeles to London and a one night hotel stay near the Windsor castle in Eton, England to make our wedding anniversary a little special. Eton/Windsor was awesome despite the 30/40 degree weather. It was well worth the luggage space for a couple of coats and warm clothes! The flight out of London on our anniversary was delayed and our layover in Paris was delayed (due to transportation union strikes in the entire country of France.) *Air France/ air Mauritius was our airline* we put up with the inconveniences of the airlines and airports, Off to Mauritius! The Mauritius hotel and restaurant nearby was great. It was pricey for the dinner and drinks but well worth it after 24 hours of flights to get there. We woke up the next morning excited for our cruise. TRIP BEGINS DAY 1 We arrived an hour and a half before “boarding” to see only a few people waiting under a plastic canopy for their luggage to be tagged. We waited on a short line to check in and were given cool towels. Once we got closer to the end of the line we were super surprised to see everybody handing over their passports and the lady putting them in a big box behind her! We were called up and the lady asked to see our passports and looked us up in a computer and said welcome aboard. We asked, “Why do they have to keep our passports, and if they could take photocopies instead?” She said it was for visas for Madagascar and we will get them back after we leave Madagascar.... this was very strange and was our first notice that they will hold our passports for 6 days! We even asked Logitravel prior if we need to do anything for the visas. They told us “You will get the visas at the port when you arrive.” Nothing was mentioned by Logitravel that they would hold our passports. We noted the ladies name and asked her to be extremely careful with our documents. Once we were on board it was time for a late lunch. We made our way up to the 9th floor to the buffet. Once we exited the elevator the smell overwhelmed us. There was a mixture of all types of food smells. We just ignored the smell and began to survey the buffet to find something appealing. We had to dodge all the other passengers with trays and the workers with empty trays of discarded food with flies buzzing around. When we got in line we noticed a few people cutting in line, we didn’t care, we said there should be plenty of food to go around. We noticed only about 10% of the people using the watery hand sanitizer dispensers before grabbing at the utensils and touching all of them before grabbing the one they deemed fit. As we got saw the food we were extremely surprised at what an “Italian” cruise company called food. It was horrid, the food extremely foul tasting. We picked a few pieces of semi stale bread and a piece of chicken grilled chicken without any sauces. We barely got that down as the lady next to us was eating an apple and spitting out the skin directly on the table without a plate and left it there!!!! We said well hopefully the dinner will be better. After going into our room we were happy to have our own little spot on the huge ship. Once we went into the bathroom we noticed a disgusting smell of sewage coming from the toilet. We said “Oh no imagine after a couple of days on the cruise the smell will probably get worse!” We had to wait for our luggage to be brought up. We then said let’s just go get a drink and try and have some fun. When we got to the 2nd deck we noticed a long line at the customer service and tables set up everywhere with confused passengers asking questions and looking bewildered. We made our way to the main bar and asked for two whiskies. The bartender had this smirk on his face and said, “Can I see you Costa card?” We showed him and he said, “That those drinks are not included in your package.” We said “are you sure we got the all-inclusive cabin and drink package?” He replied, “You should go to the drink package table over there and talk with them.” We went over to a table and waited in line behind a couple that was furious about the prices and couldn’t understand why it would cost so much! Also the wife did not drink, but Costa makes the entire party to have the drink package, so the husband said ok we will go without it and walked away. We talked to a man and he showed us a drink package pamphlet riddled with all these extra prices for “premium” liquor and cocktails. The worse part was that there were drink packages for water! We asked, “Why there are drink packages for water?” He notified us that bottled water and water at the bar is not included with our package!” We asked, “What is the top package then?” He told us, “It is 740 euros a person for 14 days for the top drink package.” We were astonished it would cost that much! We settled for the second most which ran us a little over 150 US Dollars. We said “Wow we wished we would’ve known earlier so we could’ve booked the better package 8 months ago. Instead of taken $150 out of our spending budget. We also walked by the “internet/WiFi” table and noticed that the WiFi is not free anywhere on the ship!!! We got a booklet and saw it cost 100 euros for 3gb of data! We again wished we were informed by Costa/Logitravel of this ridiculous priced added expense. As we would have got a portable hotspot, paid for it in advance, or worked it into our budget! We went to a different bar and got a drink prepared by a rude bartender. We retreated to a table away from the bar and started to voice our frustrations to each other. As we were talking we noticed every other party doing the same thing! After our drink we decided, hey let blow off some steam and hit the arcade and casino. Once there we realized that the arcade is not free either. We didn’t even bother with the casino as we felt it would be rigged even worse than other casinos. We wondered what else we will have to pay on this “all-inclusive” vacation! Skeptical of the food we wanted to see the dinner menu for our free sit-down dinner. The Daily Diary told us it was the “gala menu” so we went to the restaurant to try and find a menu. There was nothing there and nobody in sight. So we went to the customer service desk and asked them for the menu for tonight’s dinner. They actually laughed and threw up their hands and said, “We do not have the menus!” We looked at each other and just said, “thank you.” and walked away. We got changed and ready for dinner and headed down to the restaurant 10 minutes early to see a huge group of people waiting to get in. We noticed some obviously overdressed people that seemed to be pawns in the Costa scam. They seemed like actors that were trying to instill a fake sense of class and excitement for the cruise and the dinner. Once 7:45pm came they just opened up the doors and people literally ran inside to their tables. We thought we would have a “dinning seating choice” but we were put up against a wall at the back of the boat where the boat rocked the most. We looked at the menu and decided that we both would have the Lentil soup. I would try the pasta and my wife would try the prawn. Once the lentil came out and we tasted it we knew we have been tricked again. It tasted like literal watered down puke and we only had one or maybe two spoons each. Our entrees came out and my wife’s shrimp stunk of bad seafood and was the skinniest shriveled up prawn we have ever seen. She didn’t touch a thing. My pasta was covered in cheese sauce that tasted horrid and the pasta was chewy with a weird texture. We started to get nauseous and couldn’t take the smell of everyone else’s food. We got up and walked past the waiter and he said, “Is everything ok?” We said, “No! We are not feeling well.” As we walked out everyone stared at us and we tried to not look at the bad eating habits of the people. We had a couple of drinks (made with the cheapest of alcohols) and retreated to our room. We were so upset but we were out in the middle of the Indian Ocean and felt trapped! It was nearly 11pm and we were so hungry so we decided to order room service (which was included free in our package). We looked at the menu and noticed there were only 3 free items. Everything else we would have to pay for. Also they could not bring us water so we had to pay for two sodas. Not liking any of the free choices, I chose the “il Italiano sandwhich” and my wife chose the vegetarian sandwich (after her bad prawn earlier). The room service guy came in and said in a subtle sarcastic voice, “How are you enjoying the cruise?” We said, “Its okay so far” to avoid a weird conversation. We gave him 3 US dollars tip and he left. To our horror, as we looked at the food we almost puked immediately. The vegetarian sandwich was soggy and looked like a mashed up mixture of a bad eggplant and other indistinguishable “vegetables”. The prosciutto on the “il Italiano” was even worse it looked like spam and had some weird clear gelatin attached to it! ****see attached picture and video***** We asked room service to take the tray away and almost cried with disbelief. We could not find any decent food to eat! We then started to ask each other if we should leave and book something else. As a numbers guy I started doing the math in my head and knew if we left it was going to cost us a minimum of $5000 (for hotel and flights back to Mauritius) plus the $7500 we already gave to Costa/Logitravel! DAY 2 We went to breakfast and survived on stale bread and croissants. We spent the day sunbathing and fasting as we could not bear to even walk through the buffet area! We decided we would pay extra for a pizza as we could not, and would not, sit down for another free dinner. We said to ourselves how Italians could mess up a pizza made fresh. When we got to the pizza “restaurant” we realized it is just a section within the buffet area! People were looking at the guys kneading the dough as two guys would walk up and tried to lure them into buying a pizza. We were seated and realized only one other person was there. I asked for a pizza that included cherry tomatoes and burrata cheese. The waiter told me that they ran out of cherry tomatoes! I said, “Really on the second night?” They didn’t give a reason and told me, “They could make it with tomato sauce instead.” When the pizzas came out they were running and watery. The ball of burrata was so hard I couldn’t even cut into it! When the waiter came over to ask how the food was I said, “It is a little watery”. He replied with a belittling remark, “Well that is because you ordered it with tomato sauce.” My wife and I just rolled our eyes and couldn’t believe that he didn’t apologize or try and correct it. We decided we have to get off the ship! We paid for the small amount of data and started to try and search for our escape. We were trying to get into our Chase banking app as it gives us great deals for travel since we are reserved customers. The WiFi was so slow we could not even use it! And worse of all our data package kept draining and we kept upgrading (racking up the money for Costa!) A number of other apps did not work so we went down to the “Internet cafe”. Once there, we put in our card and the computer seemed slower than our phones! We left very discouraged and we kept searching through the Expedia app. DAY 3 We went down to customer service desk the second morning to ask for our passports back and we were thinking of disembarking from the boat. The lady wanted us to sign a disembarking form right then. We said we will not until our passports are returned to us. She said we could pick up our passports tomorrow morning. We spent the second day on the ocean sunbathing and fasting again. We ate two regular margarita pizzas again and both were soggy. We spent the rest of the night researching resorts to try and get the best deal, since we were going to lose a bunch on this vacation. We finally booked: • 4 night stay “half board” in a resort in Seychelles for $1500 and spent an extra $400 for drinks and food. (The resort and the food were spectacular!) • We also had to pay for a flight back to Mauritius so we can get the flight we already paid for from Mauritius back to London. The flight straight from Seychelles was way too expensive. The price for two passengers in economy was $800. • We also booked an all-inclusive resort in Mauritius for $3000, which was fantastic! We also booked an excursion since we lost out on our excursions with costa! Day 4 We went down to the customer service desk and asked for our passports back and the lady said, “You can have them back on the day you disembark.” We did not want to argue so we just said we will make sure we get them back before we leave the ship. We skipped breakfast and got something from a nearby vending machine on land at the port. We went on our one excursion in Seychelles. It was such a relief to be off the boat! The tour was a lot of driving and boat rides. The lunch buffet on the island of Praslin was delicious and so refreshing! Overall it was a good time (9 out of 10). We arrived back at the ship at 7pm. We packed and went to bed without dinner. We dreamt about disembarking in the morning. Day 5 We went down to the customer service, paid our bill, signed the form, and took our own luggage out and never looked back! Summary In the end we spent….. 5739 US Dollars to Logitravel/Costa for the initial booking. 2243 US Dollars for the excursions we could not cancel, the upgraded drink package, the WiFi, the pizza, and other items. Along with the accommodations we made we spent well over 13,000 US Dollars! We could’ve done without Costa/Logitravel and stayed in the two very nice resorts for the 8000 US Dollars. Never going to go on a cruise again! Read Less

It is my 3th cruise... and Costa Deliziosa is the worst ever. We sail from Venice to Grecia and Montenegro... The logistic was terrible. They should choose more waisley the times in the ports. The time they give us was in each port SUCKS. Everthing on board costs a lot of money it's OVERRATED....the entertaiment in specific the shows was like seeing beginners in a performace, ZERO professionalism. We are from Monterrey, Mexico and our experices have been with Carnival, Royal, pullmatour... Costa is nothing compared with them. It 's very obvious that they exploit their staff because you can see them everywhere, everytime. Additionally they perform lots of maintenance during after hours, they shut off the water supply 3 days in a row... and in the bathroom there were no soap bar, extra tissues and you had to keep asking for these things. The channels in the tv also are very poor... Read Less

Having read some of the previous reviews, we were a bit worried about taking this cruise. However, overall it warrants the four stars I have given it. The service throughout the ship was mostly very good, which was good as you cannot remove the service charge of 10 Euros per person a day on any Costa ship. The ship was in a pretty good condition, but it is starting to show a few signs of needing a dry dock. The entertainment was varied but we enjoyed most of it, obviously it is down to your taste. It is definitely a party ship, with lots of music and dancing. There was a good choice of food in the main dining room, and it usually was hot enough. In the buffet the choice was also good, but it was often only luke warm. A tip would-be to have breakfast in the main dining room, it means you can always get a seat and much of it is buffet service, but you can order things such as omelettes from a menu. You can only get tea and coffee in the buffet when breakfast and afternoon tea is on, otherwise you have to get it from a bar and pay. This was not a problem for us as we had the drinks package. We booked Costa Pacifica for 10 night Mediterranean cruise for our wedding anniversary. It was our first cruise and i would say that it met and sometimes exceeded our expectations. Value for money was great and with few exceptions everything was awesome. Cleanliness overall was top. Reaching places on the ship was easy after we discovered the interactive screens. Sadly, always some of the elevators were out of service. With the exception of our dinner waiter who was later then other waiters, the staff was very helpful and friendly. Food quality and variety for us was exceptional. Many serving buffets and hours. We loved sea fruits, bakery, grills, pastas and desserts. We dinned in My Way restaurant. The menu was different each night, with 3-5 options for each meal, italian cuisine at it's best. Daily and evening events, some free, some paid. We were clearly explained that this is an italian ship and although we enjoyed the italian atmosphere, we felt that some events were for italian guests mainly. English is the second language here. Theatre shows were ok with some good singers, decent dancers and great acrobats. Some comedy also. Internet packets are expensive like all cruises, but there are some social packets and even one option to pay for minute. Excursions were worth it, some a little expensive but it was the best option. We booked northern part of the Lanzarote, Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife, and the 9h all around Funchal (fabulous experience). We chose to visit Marseille and Malaga on our own and it was a good plan. We absolutely loved the condition of the ship, the design and decorations. Everything reflects a musical theme. Recommend it. Read Less

The roomservice was exellent. Housekeeping spoke very good English. She took really good care of guests. I was travelling solo, and the whole crew of the ship took really good care of me. The whole crew called me Madame. I dont like shows so much, and luckily the was a place on the ship where 2 gitarists sung songs from the last 30 years. I really enjoyed it, they played like pro's. Food was really great, and all the crew was flexible to my wishes. I had a really good time from I landed on the airport in Barca, and got picked up by Costa. I went on one tour, to Monaco. The guide talked really good English, and was so good explaining the history and odd points about Monaco. The ship was very good organized, the crew was excellent. The best cruise I ever been on. I would do this again. Read Less

The ship is a very beautiful ship. It is a Carnival Destiny (Sunshine) class ship that has a slightly different layout. The decoration is very well done with some odd art work here and there. The cabin was standard to all other ships I have been on. This was my first time on an Italian ship. I have cruised on British and American ships more times then I can count. The ship did pick up an drop off passengers at every port which I had never experienced before but did not affect our vacation in any way shape or form. The biggest difference was of course the language for all activities (except the production shows) were all in Italian (Production shows were fabulous by the way)... which is understandable. I'm not much of a dance lesson, trivia contest guy anyway. The dining was the biggest not so good surprise... The food on this Italian ship is the most different then any other ship I have sailed on ... The breakfast was always continental not the typical huge American/british fatty breakfast. The pizza and ice cream which is normally free on the American/ british ships was an upcharge (our kids were disappointed). There was not a free coffee, tea, water dispenser available all day like other ships... It was only available for buffet meal times which kind of forces you to get the drink package... The food in general compared to carnival, rccl, norweigen, celebrity, etc. you could see how this cruise line pays significantly less for quality and if you do want the quality food you have to pay an upcharge (do not expect to get a free lobster night and chocolate molten cake). On to the service... The service from waiters, bar staff, was wonderful... The room steward service on this ship and all other ones I have been on gets worse every time I sail so that was not surprise. All the workers I met spoke English along with Italian, and other languages so was very impressed and humbled as I am in the typical American that only knows English. I admire anyone that can learn other languages. The ports are the main reason why we picked this ship... We were in a port every day except one and got a chance to explore castles, cathedrals, and beaches. We chose to travel on the busiest month in Italy so we did pay extra for that but it was the only time work permitted average was $1000 per person. I do overall recommend this cruise line but as an American and having cruised on more American and British ships... I will go out of my way in the future to make sure the next cruises we go on are American or British mainly because of the comfort level of the language and food make the whole experience way more appealing and on a vacation that is very important. That is why I gave this ship an average rating... This ship was lacking overall a feeling of southern hospitality if you know what that means then you will understand... All other ships and lines I have been on have a deep feeling of southern hospitality but this one did not. That is the best way I can describe it. Read Less

We visited Stockholm, St Petersburg, Tallinn and Helsinki. This was a beautiful cruise that is very well organized in every aspect. I think it also gives you a great sense of Italy and their way of life and partying. The only bad thing that I have to point out is that they have VERY small swimming pools on the ship, and this is a real problem when 3000 people want to swim at the same time. I loved the food, Italian cuisine is famous worldwide and I think there is something to eat for everyone. :))) And they have a WONDERFUL entertainment team which made me dance and stay awake every single night till God knows which hours. Important to know: - You can link your credit card to your ship card and then don't have to worry about payment. - They have totems now, so you can book your excursions there. - Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly and without any crowds and problems. I will definitely travel with Costa again! Read Less

Review Summary The question is...Would I recommend taking a Baltic Cruise on Costa Pacifica? I will reluctantly say “Yes”. The Cruise Ship is well worth the money spent. The destinations are absolutely exquisite. The only hesitation I have is the food as it was terrible. Embarkation Getting to the Port in Kiel Germany was very easy. The Cruise Terminal is ~1 mile from the Kiel Train Station (HBF). Plenty of shops and food establishments to peruse before boarding. The boarding process was abysmal. Massive amount of passengers being funneled into 6 check-in stations. It took ~4 hours from arriving at the Terminal to boarding the ship. Baggage arrived to the cabin later in the evening. Absolutely miserable experience. Ship Experiences Food and Dining Main Dining Room was mediocre at best. Presentation of dishes was average. Quality and variety was well below average. Little to no fresh vegetables and fruits. Buffet was nearly inedible. Same low quality dishes every single day. The breads and desserts were above average. Little to no fresh vegetables and fruits. Specialty Restaurants were no better. Drink Packages and Bars were above average. This is the primary disappointment. Was expecting good Italian Dining, yet received meals that were so horrible. In addition, four of our party became violently ill throughout the cruise directly related to the food. Onboard Activities The shipboard activities were outstanding. The ship was filled with activity daily and was one of the most exciting cruise ships I have been aboard. Entertainment All of the Performances and Entertainers were excellent. One the most exciting cruise ships I have been aboard. Children's Programs No children Service and Staff The Crew were outstanding in all aspects. Very friendly and professional. Ship Quality The ship is in great shape. While the decor is very brash, it fits the energy of the cruise. Appropriate Music throughout the ship. Cabin / Stateroom Cabin is above average with plenty of storage space. Tastefully decorated. The bed and pillows were average. Ship Tip Really think about how important the quality of food is to your cruise experience. Ports Of Call Kiel, Germany No excursion. Good port for Embarking and Disembarking Gdynia (Gdansk), Poland Average port. It is a young city so in a couple of years it will be a much better port. Shuttle to city center is ~$8 Klaipeda, Lithuania Wonderful port. Lots to see and do. Walk to the city center. Very inexpensive. Tallinn, Estonia Wonderful port. Lots to see and do. Walk to the city center. Very inexpensive. St. Petersburg, Russian Federation The Crown Jewel of the Baltics. Spend as much time and money as possible in St Petersburg. Extremely inexpensive. Must obtain a Visa prior to cruise or book an Excursion through the cruise line to exit the port. No exceptions. Helsinki, Finland Beautiful port but not much to see or do. Very expensive. Shuttle to city center is ~$15 Stockholm, Sweden Wonderful port. Lots to see and do. Shuttle to city center is ~$15 Disembarkation Couldn’t get off the ship fast enough. Disembarking is typical as with other ships. Received color coded baggage tags the night before. Pack and set your bags outside your cabin by 1am. Depart the ship at time coordinated by your color code. Bags awaiting you in the Terminal. Read Less

Staff was kind and helpful, very clean. Cabin and corridors are cleaned daily. Restaurants on 5 and 9 floor was cleaned permanently. We were informed about everything by daily news. Very nice. Information desc was available all time. It was possible to eat 7 am - 10 pm. But in case of trip outside of ship, from 3,30 pm to dinner time, nothing to eat except cakes and bagetas. Nothing for me. Every day was performance in the theatre - very nice. Fittnes was full, pools too. But not unmanageable. Nobody reserved seats around the pools, it was very good. Children in pools for adult were irriterende, nobody did not check them. Sometimes we moor a little bit far from the city but there are possibility of excursions. Bars at open board were very busy, maybe they could be more ones. Very inspirative were the dance courses during a day. We would like to go again. Read Less

My wife and I chose this particular cruise because of the whole package being offered, the flight, start location, ports of call, and generally inquisitive as to what we would get for the unbelievable price. With regards to the ship we could not find any fault at all with everything in general, the cabin superb, service to be believed, everything in our opinion 5 star. We had the drinks package and it more than covered all that we required, the bar staff were so attentive and nothing was too much bother, and Kumar the head barman at the bar on deck three could work at any 5 star bar/restaurant. The food presented at dinner in the Fiorentino restaurant, beatifully presented, service second to none, wine glasses filled without asking and good quality wines on offer in the drinks package. All in all a wonderful experience. We will be looking to cruise with Costa again perhaps next year when the new ship Emeralda comes into service. Read Less

We wanted to take my Mum who is 84 to see Venice, Rome, Croatia, Montenegro and Athens for her first time. We always choose Costa for value for money. The crew do a great job. Can't fault bar service, restaurant service or care/cleanliness of cabin. The buffet food was great but the physical layout is annoying. Restaurant food fantastic. The ship is badly laid out. The bars and even the specialist restaurants are all thoroughfares making it impossible to relax as people are constantly streaming through. There is a huge upper outdoor deck away from the pools and children but no convenient bar up there if you like a cocktail while you sunbath. We had booked Samsara cabin giving inclusive Spa access. It was a sanctuary we used every day but facilities are co-ed which is very off-putting. Theatre shows we're all amazing and cruise director Sabrina fabulous. Embarkation in Venice would have been a nightmare if we hadn't had priority because of Mum's reduced mobility. Poorly organised and little space. Disembarkation was also a nightmare. They don't explain it in advance that there may be a long time between docking and getting to your taxi. One final point about Costa..... Wait until you are on board to book your internet package. The best value social media package is not offered on the web site and they won't let you cancel your prebooked package once on board to change it. If you take one thing from this review remember Costa offer FANTASTIC VALUE FOR MONEY. Read Less

Price and Itinerary were the reasons picked. I was quite scared after booking after I read the bad reviews about the Victoria and all of Costa's ships. I found the bad reviews not to be true at all. I guess I was on board with civil travelers. Lots of Italian speaking, but they all seem to be having a great time. Fun atmosphere. Cabin was clean and adequate and always made up. Friendly cabin staff. Food: I preferred the dinning room for breakfast. Good menu and also a self serve buffet and coffee, juice, milk available. Quiet. We were off the ship for lunch, but enjoyed the deserts and sandwiches at tea time from 4-5 pm. We had early seating and having assigned seating made service quick and we liked our waiter. He worked very hard. Food choices were kinda weird for me, but enjoyed trying new things. We did not spurge on the added price options. I was concerned about paying for water, but we had USA water on our card and always offered water with meals. We do not drink, so we did not buy or need a beverage package. But everyone seemed to have plenty to drink. So I would say the food was as good as most cruises I have been on. Entertainment in showroom was good. Happy we only had one sea day, because there was nothing to do on the ship and NO Movies! I missed having movies, even if I had to read subtitles, would have been OK. So I would suggest that you pack a small DVD player and movies in your bag if you have room. Venice port was amazing. Be sure to be up on deck when you leave and see Venice. We also got up early on day we returned and saw Venice at sunrise. Again best view of the city is on top of the cruise ship. All the ports were amazing.
