We did the Scotland -Iceland cruise from Amsterdam (14 nights) The pro's Beautifull itinerary Beautifull weather in Iceland! Embarkation proces was very quick and well organised Breakfast was very good (the Italian sweets were delicious) Quality of the food in the buffetrestaurant was good too Con's Very bad service in the restaurant: lots of mistakes, every night we had to wait 45 minutes before the first dish came (our first dish came tat 21:30 PM and the restaurant opened at 20:45 PM No free water or coffee anymore at night in the restaurant. Food came cold in het restaurant!!! Food itself was good but you see that they use cheap ingredients (scaloppina :from porc instead of veal..., ) and some portions were also very small Buffetrestaurant was always very crowded and loud (long lines + difficult to find a table) Ship itself: not clean at all, dated decor, very crowded , not enough space for all the people on board (3400), not enough personel on board. It needs to stay for a long time in the drydock in my opinion before it will shine againl!!! Announcements always made in 7 languages so resting on deck was impossible. Why make announcements for sales in the shops, beginning of animation... You find everything in the daily newspaper! It is so ennoying. The music (outside decks) was very loud too! Very bad communication about important things (you never knew when the ship was cleared and when you could leave the ship while in port...) Personnel not friendly and not interested For Costa only one thing counts: MONEY!!! They do not care about the passengers! It was our 3rd cruise with Costa. The first one was OK but we did not have much expectations because it was cheap, the second one was one of the best cruises we have ever had (Costa Victoria in Asia 2 years ago- the food on this ship was so delicious!) This cruise was a real dissapointment and I do not think we will cruise with Costa again. Read Less

Having just returned to Dover from Savona on our latest cruise my wife and I found that the noise from the groups playing in the main entertainment area' s was to loud also the atrium bar was also rather loud from the male pianist/singer, their is no where on the ship to listen to quiet music whilst enjoying an after dinner drink. The service in the restaurants was taking two hour's or more to serve dinner up to 45 mins for the first course. The entertainment was excellent in the theatre and the cabin service was also very good, the organisation getting on and off the ship was quick. The service in the bars was excellent and courteous. After reading many negative reviews was a bit hesitant to book and wasn't expecting anything exceptional, well We were surprised we travelled as a group of eight and found the cruise to be very enjoyable. have cruised with four other lines and found costa to be the most memorable. boarding was quick as was disembarkation . the entertainment and activities were well planned, Décor at first was overwhelming to many patterns on the walls couldn't tell a door from a wall but we got used to it. after the third day. we were in minority as only minimal English speaking passengers on board but staff were courteous and tried very hard to communicate with us. We had a balcony cabin on deck 6 our room was always clean even though we never saw our cabin steward. we only took a few organized tours and did other ports of call independently. The ship offered shuttle buses to town at ports where transport was needed, in our opinion it was not expensive and worth the cost as it was convenient due to being easy not having any hassles trying to find your own way as you are only in port a minimal amount of time. Time is whats valuable. only negative we had was the drinks package while it was good value if you are a heavy drinker everyone in the cabin was expected to buy it. was not catered for individuals. we were three in a cabin and two drank little alcohol so there would of been no value for everyone to buy the package . also the food was ok but the same thing every day with no variety at the buffet . restaurant food was just ok nothing flash .but same food just a different name each night with a different dressing . if you wanted anything special on the menu you had to pay extra for it . all in all the cruise had a European vibe and that's why we took it . it was a fun ship to be on . We would cruise costa again ports visited Savona, Marseilles, Palama Majorca, Cadiz, Malaga, Lisbon, La Coruna, Le Havre, Dover , Amsterdam. only regret we had was we opted to take a shore tour in Lisbon . advertised 5 hrs 4WD to see all the country sites around Portugal. It was useless spent most of the time sitting in traffic and driving through bush stop for a quick photo stop at a lookout then only had 30 minutes at the final destination which was beautiful needed at least two hours there better to have spent the day in Lisbon town independently. Traffic Not Costas fault but this tour was overrated not worth the money spent. Read Less

My wife and on went on the Western Mediterranean cruise aboard Costa Magica in March this year (see previous review). We spotted a bargain priced 10 day cruise on Magica around Northern Europe and decided to take the plunge. This was probably our last Costa cruise. The ship called at Dover so we were expecting a few more brits this time, but there were apparently only about 80 aboard so in a distinct minority. This cruise appeared even more geared up to the Italians. Announcements were made in 6 european languages with English following up the rear and sometimes not at all. As before, the Italians were loud, rude and pushy so be warned! We were on Deck 6 Caravaggio which is a bad place to be. If you have a cabin in the central block above the Salento Grand Bar change it. We were in 6297 and directly above the stage so we could hear Bingo calling and the loud thud of eurobeat music until 1.30 each morning. There was also a continual loud vibration. You won't get an early night in any of these rooms. Another problem with this ship is the lack of designated smoking areas and the lack of decent ventilation. Both the bars at the rear of the ship allowed smoking so there was no escape. The 'air con' seems to kick in once an hour but is not very efficient. The restaurants in particular get very hot. Maybe the Italians like it that way but we found it very uncomfortable. If you fancy watching TV forget it. The only English speaking channel is BBC world news. We didn't fancy any of the theatre shows this time and our English companions said most were dire. We were fortunate on this cruise to find an English guitarist Ron who kept us entertained in one of the bars. Pity the cruise director decided to alternate him every hour with a classical duo playing violin and piano. We enjoyed some of the ports of call but unless you are a committed europhile and can withstand the general mayhem recommend avoiding Costa. Read Less

Just back from my first Costa (have done Cunard, Princess, HAL, RCCL, Carnival before). Deliziosa is a new ship and a such was in excellent condition. Embarcation at Copenhagen was painfully slow. They had only 2 desks, manned by ship's dancers who only had to check name on embarcation form you carried with your passport. No computer terminal or even a printed list to tick names. Still took them for ever. I stood in a queue for 1 hr 25 mins. An elderly lady behind me fainted, and I'd be surprised if she was the only one that day. Costa Card (combined room key/on board charge card) was in the cabin. Plenty of storage space in cabin, cabin steward excellent with high standards and desire to help when needed, cabin tv channels not good unless you speak Italian, French, German, Spanish. Only English-speaking channel was BBC World. Whole ship was very clean, most staff speak reasonable English, announcements were made in 5 languages but I got used to that and would just switch my ears off after hearing the first one I understood. Evening shows were ok - the multi-lingual ventriloquist (sounds painful) was a scream and I literally cried laughing. Excursions expensive but I do my own thing anyway - you can find everything there is to know and see about your destinations on line and don't have to spend a fortune on ship's tours. Food - well, compared to other lines it was disappointing. Buffet at lunchtime was ok, but nice to have waiter service in main restaurant at lunchtime if you're not ashore. It's open dining then so you can go when you want between 12 - 1.30 and don't have to sit at your assigned dinner table. Evening buffet not good, unless you like pizza. All they have is pizza, one pasta dish, one fish that to me screamed 'school dinners fish' and when I was there, the meat option was luncheon meat. Restaurant dinner menu disappointing but you can always get salmon or steak if you don't like that evening's menu. Hazlenut ice cream - now that really was Deliziosa. Room Service continental breakfast was ok and no extra charge. If you want RS any other time there's a 2 Euro charge. They don't do room service for lunch or dinner - I guess they're busy in the restaurant. Drinks very expensive. Even the Cocktail of the Day was 5 Euros which gets to almost 6 by the time they add the service charge and I don't think £5 for the day's cheap cocktail is particularly cheap. I'd gone on a last minute super-cheapie and had no budget for many extras, so stuck to normal water at dinner and didn't suffer from it. You can always get tea (lots of choice of fruit, herbal, normal, etc)or coffee in the lido buffet up to 11pm. Several bars to relax in, but none for peaceful relaxation as they all have some sort of live music in the evening. Casino - only takes your Costa Card, not cash, inc. the slots, so restraint needed there. Can get a bit smokey. There are smoking areas in the bars and one side of the pools. Less than half those dining had dressed to the "Gala" dress code on both those nights, so if you don't want to take fancy clothes you won't feel out of place. Internet's expensive but before I went I'd googled free wifi and found plenty of places I could use their computers (usually public libraries) or my netbook wifi for free. Some places you could get on line just off the ship - watch for where the crew go - when you see lots of Filipinos at their laptops, chances are there's free wifi. Would I go Costa again? If I got a good deal like this one (under £350 for balcony cabin for sole occupancy for a week including flights), Yes. Read Less
