We wanted to visit Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro that is why we chose this cruise. We were over the moon with the ship, it is stunning, the entertainment is outstanding, I would have paid to see these shows. The food, every member of staff were simply outstanding. We paid the extra £50.00 to upgrade our all inclusive package and we felt it well worth it. Excellent quality cocktails, top grade spirits and cans of soft drink and bottles of water delivered to our room. We upgraded to a larger cabin on 7th floor but did not have a balcony or window but we did not miss this we used our room to get ready and sleep. There is so much going on around the ship from Morning to very late night I cannot wait to book again. We booked trips in Slovenia - caves and castles our only disappointment was we would have liked an hour or two longer We booked Krka waterfalls trip in Split - just simply breathtaking beauty again I wish we had longer We booked speedboat and beach trip in Montenegro- this was just amazing, the views spectacular. Then we had a walk around the town of kotor, this is also very beautiful and sells the most delicious pizza and ice cream In Venice and Dubrovnik we did our own thing, due to very high temperatures we only stayed in Venice until 1 pm, but we have visited Venice for a holiday. In Dubrovnik we shared a taxi into old town with another cruiser. We chose open side bus tour at €20 each and boat trip at €10 each. This was a great way to see Dubrovnik, due to temperatures of 37 we didn't do the wall walk, but will return to Dubrovnik to do this. Do not miss sail away from Venice Happy to answer any questions Read Less

First cruise so have nothing to gauge it on but found it wonderful. Nightmare start with over a 5 hour delay but as soon as we got to Corfu airport at 2:30am staff were great getting us on coaches then embarkation just as good even though flight had delayed ship we were swiftly put on ship so could sail asap. All the staff were very attentive and Julio our cabin steward was so nice and helpful. Only ate in the buffet restaurant once for breakfast and for lunch after visiting Split but otherwise ate in Gallery 47 for breakfast and the Italian upstairs is lovely. Also ate in Surf and Turf and Kora La as well as the glass House well worth the extra payment for all. We were worried that we would felt a little trapped on the ship but not at all plenty to do and all the excursions we did through TUI were well organised. Cabin number 3568 was great able to unpack everything just and no noise only issue same as others was the shower curtain, but hey if that’s all you can complain about not bad. We did a cruise and stay and the only disappointment was coming off the ship no one telling us where to collect coaches and people setting off and dragging suitcases towards the terminal until stopped. The good, the bad and the ugly... This was our 3rd cruise with Marella. I almost cancelled going on the Dream due to the reviews I read, but had a great time. We were on the maiden voyage of the Explorer last year and there were the inevitable teething problems but the junior suite with large balcony was worth the money despite the terrible service and food. This time we opted for the family suite on Discovery and it was everything I hoped it would be. A twin bed room, a shower room (shower curtain is the only criticism) a sitting room with 2 chairs and a sofa, a double bedroom, a bathroom with tub and shower (again dreaded shower curtain!) and what would have been a decent size balcony but 2 sunloungers cramped the table and 2 chairs. Perhaps a table and 4 chairs would have made more sense? Bambang the steward and the rest of the cleaners/housekeeping were tireless, always cheerful and polite and the suite was always immaculate. No problems at Corfu Airport getting the cases and the transfer went smoothly. It was a bit of a hike to the boat from the port terminal for those who are disabled though. On arrival I had pre-ordered champagne and strawberries as a birthday surprise for my husband which were not in the cabin. Julia at reception apologised and reordered them for the day we were in Venice, but the surprise was ruined. Also noticed I paid an extra £4.00 than the price listed but hey ho. Food in the Islands were reminiscent of school dinners and had a "canteen" feel to it. That said, the food was hot as were the plates and the stewards were efficient in clearing plates and detritus quickly. Often in the children's section, the burgers and hot dog sausage were raw or undercooked. Wouldn't allow the child to eat chicken all week as it was pink as well. The 47 restaurant... an hour wait with a pager. Fast service once seated but food wasn't even body temperature. Portion size was laughable. Wouldn't fill a child. Was ill after eating there and wouldn't go back again. Snack shack food was tasty but the queues were hectic often. Felt sorry for the servers, they did their best. Smoking sections were a joke. The non-smokers kept taking the chairs. If it had been the other way round something would have been done! They had the whole of the ship and the poor smokers only had a half dozen tables! Only smoking section was deck 10 and deck 4 on the port side (left). It kept being moved to starboard now and again (for maintenance?) Also have a critique of some smokers who insisted in putting rubbish in the ashtrays instead of the bins provided. I saw two on two separate occasions on fire! No sense or just laziness who can tell. Bar staff did an amazing job even though they could have done with 4 hands at times. Absolutely slammed but still had a smile, apart from one guy on deck 9 serving at the bar outside the islands. He looked like someone had stolen his last bun. Bad day? Husband enjoyed the comedian and went to the show twice. Kids club staff were absolutely amazing. No other words to describe them. They went above and beyond and were fantastic. Spa staff were lovely and actually were able to make me look presentable! Husband didn't know me! Great experience I highly recommend them. The ports were great and I really am glad we chose this itinerary. Wish we'd been able to stay longer in Venice and Montenegro instead of leaving early evening. Didn't seem to be enough hours in the day to visit those 2 in particular. Cases left out the night before disembarkation and everything went smoothly. Corfu Airport is about the same size as my living room. Something really needs to be done instead of vast queues of people outside worried about making their flight. Perhaps Tui should consider leaving this airport in favour of one capable of taking the capacity? It's a sour taste in the mouth after having a holiday. Basically our family enjoyed the cruise despite my grumblings above. It cost us just over £7000.00 for 3 adults and one child. Hardly what I'd call a "budget" cruise but the all-inclusive is a great idea. We will try again (forever optimistic!) , possibly next year, but if things haven't improved even slightly we'll go back to Royal Caribbean or NCL. Couldn't face the same problems with food and airport again. Read Less

This was our first time cruising and we wanted a smaller or mid sized ship with a balcony. Discovery 2 fits that bill. My wife and I, both in our 60s, would thoroughly recommend this cruise. Cabin 7006 with balcony was excellent in every way. In particular it had plenty of power points. One USA, one European and three USBs, one under each wall light.. We ate largely in 47 degrees the main dining room and found both the service and food to be very good. We ate early, rarely after 7:15, when there were no queues, but did notice queues, sometimes long, after 8:00. Upstairs in 47 Degrees Italian was also very good and free. One night we ate in the Steakhouse at £30pp extra. Well worth it, superb food and service. We did note that early booking on day 1 of the cruise is vital as after Monday this restaurant was booked solid and operating a waiting list. We found that there were plenty of lifts and we never waited long at all. There were a fair number of disabled passengers with small buggies but they caused no problem and it would seem that this is a good ship and cruise for disabled people. We took an organised trip at every stop and enjoyed them all, although we felt two of them to be poorly organised by Marella. The guides, without exception, were very good. Dress code throughout is smart casual. Something women find easy and men in my experience find difficult to understand! Same comment also applies back home at my golf club. Dress to impress night, I wore a three piece suit. About 5% wore tuxedo - well done! 20% Jacket and tie, 75% jacket or no jacket and no tie. Some even wore jeans. Didn't bother us, perhaps it's a plus that on this ship you wear what you want, within reason. We would definitely cruise with Marella again and would choose a balcony cabin. We spoke with others and saw the interiors of outside and inside cabins and those who chose them loved them. Staff were universally excellent. We spoke to people from South America, West Indies, Philippines, etc and they were a joy to speak to and to have them serve us. We watched 4 shows in the large theatre where they bring waiter served drinks to your seat. We found the shows to be well put together and the performers did a good job. The theatre was packed for 2 shows a night. Embarkation (we were one hour late from Gatwick) and disembarkation were no problems. You do have to be out of your cabin by 8am on the final day and have packed suitcases in your hallway the previous night. Read Less

We were quite worried after reading previous reviews , however it turned out to be a very good cruise. Firstly the cons ( not many ) . As so many other reviews have highlighted they need more bar/wait staff in atrium/live room bars between 6-11pm this was the only negative review of service . ( PLEASE LISTEN MARELLA !!!! would have been 5 stars but for this !!!). Also the only other fault was that we felt some of the meat products ie burgers, cooked meats needed to be of a higher standard ( Think microwave burgers ! ). The pros , great flight and super transfer , embarcation all very well organised . The most friendly welcome ever ( previous ncl + celebrity cruise nowhere near as good in this respect). Virtually all the crew including officers very friendly ( one exception a surly barman in atrium bar ).Cabin cleaned very well by paul and charlie , lots of space and a comfortable bed.Food was generally very good and never waited long to be seated. Always managed to find a seat in islands. Something for everyone regards entertainment re dancing , bingo ,quizes , etc ( your never going to please everyone all the time as the ships passengers are a cross section of British society ).Fantastic itinery and some fairly priced excursions ( adriatic ). We thought this would be a one off cruise with marella but will now definatly book again. Go with a smile on your face and enjoy. Read Less

Probably the biggest disappointment was the food. The buffet restaurant seems to have no dress code and the food was absolutely appalling. Cheap, mass produced rubbish. The a la carte restaurants (47° and gallery 47) were slightly better but the food was all bought in and heated up, menus lacked imagination and the quality was average at best. We did have one good meal by paying £46 to upgrade to the Kora La Asian restaurant. This was almost 5 star but not quite. The ship has been with TUI Marella since 2017, before this it was Legend of the Seas and on exchange was supposed to have had millions spent on it. Apart from a nice external paint job it's difficult to see what this could have been spent on as it's all very tired and often quite tatty internally. The cabin has it's own section within this review. The entertainment was quite reasonable. The band 4Tunes are good and some of the shows were ok, though not fantastic. Why are cruise ships obsessed with Broadway shows? On good quality 5 star holidays we are used to entertainment that typifies the culture and music of the area being visited. The all inclusive drinks are ok but I don't understand why this doesn't include the cabin mini bar. Maybe the type of 5 star all inclusive holidays we are used to has set our expectations a bit high for large cruise ships due to the mixed client demographic. We certainly wouldn't sail with Marella again. Read Less

Have tried all the other marella ships. So decided on discovery 2 to cruise with friends. Never had a balcony cabin before . Would not pay for another one as didn't use it. Our cabin was just above the atrium so noisy if you wanted a nap or early night. Entertainment was just ok. Too much daytime entertainment slots were filled with spa demonstrations which are always too overpriced. The comedian Terry Cotta was very good. The 4 tunes group were very good the banda certa group not so good. Food and drink good. Cabin kept clean by Benji. Reception staff were polite. Entertainment staff friendly. Long wait for waiters to serve you they always seemed to look the other way except for Sherene a lovely girl from Jamaica and Philip or tinkerbell as we called him always on the go and so cheery. Standard have dropped in mdr, stains on tablecloths dirty cups and twice I saw young waiters just using the glass table number stand to brush crumbs on the floor. I think more training by older experienced staff is needed. Food is good but long wait for it to be served. More waiting on staff are needed in the dining rooms. I always come back from cruise with a chest infection I put it down to air con either in cabin or on flight. Would not cruise from Corfu airport again. Long queues outside airport then another to check in then another to put your case through then another for security. If you want to use special assistance you are put on last on the plane. Special praise goes to the woman captain on the flight for her persistence in trying to land our plane in strong winds . Well done. Read Less

The ship is in real terms old, having been purchased from Royal Caribbean, 1st constructed in the mid 90’s. However she has stood the test of time and is still very welcoming, for the type of cruiser that does not wants the whizz bang that the present day builds may have. The cabins are very much the same as every other ship in both design and size. However the media systems although modern flat screen, lack Video On Demand (VOD). But the Browser based, WiFi connected via all devices, notice board system worked really well. Even down to booking specialist restaurants or checking on board account. However there did not appear to be any sea based GSM mobile system. The usual minute based Wi-Fi system was available, for those who cannot do without their Internet time. The only bug bare with Wi-Fi, is the per minute pricing, when we all know data is charged by the Mbit. Just remember when travelling in Europe and some of the islands in the caribbean, this is not a problem because you can use you home plan whilst roaming. I glad to see that all the photographic based system used by the camera crew, where again accessed via the browser or dedicated tech stations. So that there was not wastage of row after row of printed photos. Entertainment onboard in all areas was varied and excellent, you can well understand why this cruise line tops the customer satisfaction in this area. Food was varied and delicious, all venues are freedom dining, this could lead to a wait at busy times. However personally I prefer this to the now out of fashion club dining. Food service was well organised but not over the top. Room servicing as always cannot be faulted, timely and efficient. Bar service was at times a little slow, but use of electronic tablet ordering led to few errors. The only bone of contention, as regards the All Inclusive (AI) bars was concerned, where chargeable items, unless you had the premium AI, at an extra £50 pppw. However some of these, if in a cocktail, would be free, very confusing. Also bottled water was chargeable, although each cabin floor had a chilled water machine. Finally the navigational staff, ie captain etc, where not very visible, which seems a little bit of a shame. Read Less

We had done 3 previous cruises with another company but for some reason our travel agent pressurized us to book Marella there was only inside cabins available so we went with it has we had used them previously and they had internal balconies or a window overlooking the shopping area. What a shock when we opened the door of cabin 7117 a small dark room the bed had to be pushed against the wall leaving the person on the inside have to crawl over the partner to get in and out. As this cruise cost 5 grand plus we were very disappointed to spend 2 weeks in this cave never sure if it was night or day. Would recommend anyone considering this ship if no outside cabins available do not consider this ship as we were very close to leaving after 7 days as no upgrade or other shore options were offered Read Less

I wasn't expecting much from this cruise - having been once before with P&O on Ventura and finding the food to be absolutely dire for the price we paid - but the itinerary and local flights from Cardiff to Corfu suited us so decided to go for my 40th birthday with my mother. And what a completely different experience it was! Firstly, I am not a fan of all-inclusive and haven't done such a holiday in over 14 years. But I am now well and truly converted, at least as far as Marella is concerned. The food was absolutely delicious, wherever we ate. It was good quality and there were definitely no short-cuts being taken anywhere. In fact, a carved fillet steak we got in the Main Dining Room (so no supplement) was the best fillet steak I have EVER tasted, anywhere....! I am not sure how that is even possible but there you go, it just goes to show the quality of the food Marella are delivering on their cruises. The drinks included had to be experienced to be believed - the only thing not included was bottled water...! Main brand drinks all the way and even better the wonderful staff were there taking your orders from your table or your sun lounger and promptly delivering them straight to you! Now, the staff.... Just wow....! I have stayed in quite a few 5* hotels that could only dream of providing the service that the staff provided on the Discovery. It was seriously that good. Bearing in mind how many staff members there are on the ship - and I could honestly not fault one single person. They worked tirelessly to give us a fabulous holiday. I am not sure how Tui/Marella are doing this at the prices they charge but it just goes to show they are definitely doing something right as every single member of staff was absolutely top notch and so happy to be there doing their jobs. Special mention for our Cabin Steward Charlie, who was an absolute angel and also to Josh Harris the actor host, who was absolutely beautiful, both inside and out! Such a lovely person who always took the time to talk to us, what an absolute gentleman. Thanks Josh! Martyn the Cruise Director was also lovely and always took the time to ask how we were enjoying ourselves. There are only one or two things I think Marella could improve upon, which isn't a lot bearing in mind how picky I am when it comes to holidays. Firstly the entertainment wasn't that great - we nicknamed the Live Room the 'Dead Room' as the resident pianist Jessica wasn't to our taste at all and neither were the band 4Tunes - we found the song choices from both were just really depressing! The saving grace was two shows from the absolutely amazing comedian Jay McGee - he was the funniest comedian I've seen for a long time and it was impossible to watch him without crying tears of laughter - my cheeks hurt from laughing so hard! Love you Jay! There was also an odd odour of sewerage in some parts of the ship which wasn't very pleasant and still not sure where it came from. Also, the taps in the cabin bathroom are horrific and need to be changed asap. They were of the 'spinkler' type and just splashed water everywhere apart from on our hands and faces! After only being back from the cruise only 1 day I am already looking to book again for next year with Marella and I cannot wait. A MASSIVE well done to all of you and thank you so much for changing my mind about the whole cruise experience! Read Less

We chose the Adriatic cruise leaving from Corfu because of the itinerary. The staff in every department were really great & worked their socks off. The food was good, if a little repetitive. The Asian restaurant Kora La was absolutely fantastic - far & away the best food on the ship, & the service was great too. The entertainment was great - Benjamin Gillan & Paul Greenwood were really good. We enjoyed the bands as well. One point is that the Live Room was perhaps a bit small for the bands? Change it to a pub type bar, keep the acoustics in there, put the bands in the Venue. Cabin was small but fine, if a bit tired, bit the hair dryers were awful. They had hardly any power. Eva, our cabin steward, found me another which was more powerful but had the button you had to keep pressed down & it kept falling out of the socket. Bring your own, people! Bathroom was very well designed but would have been nicer with a solid surround in the shower. All in all a good trip without beg excitement. Read Less

I have previously cruised with Tui, on this ship and a sister ship. The quality of the food has gone down hill to the point of being very average now. The Italian restaurant was a choice of three menus that just got rotated. The main restaurant choice was poor and didn't arrive as described too often. Peach Melba came out as tinned peach slices and ice cream. Truffle oil came out as olive oil. Cream came out as custard. Mature Balsamic Vinegar came out as straight Balsamic that had sugar added. Vegetable Tatin came out as onions and sweet peppers.... The list goes on. The ship shows its age badly. Broken doors on the wardrobe, scratched tops to the dressers, rust holes in the edge of the balcony, wet rot on deck boards, trip hazards on deck drains, scratched hand rails on stairs. Even the seals were falling out on the glass on the balcony. The staff, ( lots less than last year ), were great and tried really hard but we're on a hiding to nothing. Short staffing just doesn't work! Probably the most annoying thing is the vibration that ship now has all the time. So much worse than last year. If not it was the lifts. They only seem to have half of them working and if they did they missed some decks completely when called. The most unsettling point was the continuous list to port, nothing was vertical always leaning to the left. Yes, I checked with the inbuilt level on the camera and even made a plumb Bob with cotton and a spool. Great itinerary and trips, but they were so expensive. £23 to visit a site that is a 4 Euro coach ride away on the quay. Will be cruising again, but not with Marcella. Oh and finding out that booking 18 months in advance just got me stiffed for 30% higher cost than friends we made on the trip in that had a better cabin on a higher deck. Read Less

flight to corfu .....no problem . 1 hour after getting bags at airport we were in the cabin ...the cases arrived promptly. Cabin ...a junior suite was spacious with a big balcony ....spotlessly clean and kept that way by the steward who was brilliant. Meals in Islands restaurent ....most of the time ....i thought were good ....lots of negative comments on this site however ....speak as you find ..if you wanted finer dining you had options ...but booking well in advance was necessary or wait till called ....which didn,t appeal to us . The islands buffet was probably the best of its type we have experienced on our cruising experiences...quite quiet after 8 .15pm suited us ...give them some credit the staff were brilliant .. Timing is important on a cruise ship re dining ....go at peak times and you get what you should have expected ...we planned our days to avoid busy times and found the whole experience to be relaxing. Sunbathed on the balcony ....make sure you get the correct side of the ship for the most benefit of this and beware of the deck 8 cabins forward under the overhang which restricts sun. We read about noise above deck 8 before we went but never experienced any problems. must have been lucky ? The itinerary was great...i loved being in a different port every day almost and we did 3 excursions which were worth doing. Enertainment was exactly what we expected ...decent standard .....cruise ship musicals ....a comedian etc.....surely customers have an idea what its going to be like ....most night the Broadway theatre was pretty full ...dancers and singers were excellent. Individuals and groups playing in different areas of the ship were generally excellent. Disembarkation was smooth ...wait your.turn ...relax on ship ....on the bus ...corfu airport experience ok ...despite the prophets of doom on the ship.....and there were plenty of them.....flight on time ..great. To summarise ....a good relaxing holiday ....nice ship ...staff great ..worth the money . Came back home pleased with the whole experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we’ve cruised with thompson’s 8 times and tui teice and wasnted to go on the new ship and try out the new marella company. We boarded the ship with no problems flights and port to ship tranfers were great embarkation process was as usual very quick and efficient. We were diricted to our cabin. Supposed to be standard inside as we always get. When we got there it all went wrong. Cabin 7621 as soon as we walked in we realised the cabin was not normal shape size or orientation to normal inside berths. The double bed is jammed up against the wall so whoever was on the inside had to climb over the other person to get out not good if you both have arthritis! Also no fridge my wife has special prescription eye medication that must be kept chilled so another major problem. Went to reception to complain and was told “sorry ship is full no chance of move or upgrade or any compensation if your not happy contact whoever you booked your cruise with and complain to them when you get home!!!!” we were raging!!!! Eventually after more complaints we got a small fridge that we managed to jam under the dressing table and had to have the chair removed to give us some space. Added to the the air conditioning fan was noisy and freezing cold complains every day they came and banged around a few times but still the same when we left. Other issues. Dining room queues were ridiculas if not in by 7-30 you had to wait with a buzzer in hand till called and when you got in there were loads of empty seats. Obviously a staff shortage issue service is slow expect to spend at least an hour in there for for a 3 course meal of small portions and longer if you want coffee at the end. For years we’ve raced over the legendry thompson entertainment and show teams. Not this time some shows ok others borderline shocking to the point many people walked out. Opera singer benjamin being the exception he is amazing. Finally the ships smoking policy is disgusting they have smoking tables located a mere 2 metres from the opening to the snack shack. The entire starboard side of the pool deck upper deck an life boat deck stinks of tobbaco, vope smoke and stale cigarettes urgghhhh!!!! Finally when we came to disembark all the passegers going on to stay in hotels on. Off we’re kept on board until 13-45 the busses were then also late meaning we didn’t get to our hotel till 15-00 even though it was only on the other side of corfu bay we could see the ship from our hotel room. So disappointed. We were big fans of thompson but now seeking alternative companies as the prices have also gone up but standards sadly have dropped. Discovery 2 used to be called the legend of the seas if it’s allowed to sail like this the mabe the legend has died. Read Less

This was our fourth cruise with Thompson/Tui the previous 3 were great . It sort of went downhill on arrival , we boarded approx 2130-2200 ish told we had to attend safety meeting in the venue at 2230 grabbed a bit of leftovers from buffet " restaurant " and went to the venue only to be told meeting could,nt start until the last flight had got there which turned out to be 2330 we had to endure listening to the assistant cruise director making cringe worthy jokes , the bar was closed during this time so nothing to numb the pain. The food was average at best , the Italian had 2 menus rotating which after 2 weeks cruising got boring and repetitive. The main "restaurant" was nothing special the portions were small even for a la carte Islands buffet breakfast was ok,lunch was like leftovers from previous meals lots of curries, pies and fishcakes The best food we had was in the Glass house dined there 4 times 3 in times in our last week as we were fed up of the other restaurants. The service in the restaurants was terrible ,long waiting times for meals, long waits for drinks also seems like the waiting staff forget about you when the order is taken , also there is the wait to get into the restaurants sometimes 30-40 minutes then when you do get in there be amazed there seem to be at least 6 or 7 tables empty , that just tells me either the kitchens can,t cope or the waiting staff are undermanned which on observation seemed to be the case. The bars were the same long waits , 2 people trying to serve lots of people does, not work. Some of the bar waiting staff were quite surly with a reluctance to take orders, again every area seems to be understaffed. The entertainment apart from Andy Abraham's was poor, the quality of the shows was,nt all that either . The assistant cruise director who loved the sound of his own voice on the microphone was cheesy and irritating The pool entertainment was pathetic a quiz and a game of what I can only describe as adult I-Spy. The itinery was absolutely great Summing it all up compared to 3 previous cruises with the same company this one seems not to have the quality, too much cost cutting regards staffing levels and service ,maybe designed to stop you eating and drinking what you like when you like , thus saving money Read Less

We travelled as a family with two children under 14 , on back to back cruises , the Adriatic Explorer and Iconic Islands. The itinery was brilliant including Venice and Santorini which we really wanted , hence choosing TUI on this occasion, having travelled with Royal Caribbean twice and Princess Cruises once before. * SHIP * The Discovery 2 is a great addition to the TUI fleet , and although refurbished is more than enough in quality for any average Brit traveller (as we are) who will not be disappointed. A good looking vessel. * DINING / FOOD * We used the Islands Buffet restaurant , and occasionally the Snack Shack. The food was good quality and varied. * CABIN * We had an outside cabin on level 2. The window was quite large , giving us all a great view of the scenery as we cruised along , well worth the small extra charge from an inside cabin. It was located near the rear of the ship , in a quiet position. We all slept very well indeed. There was enough space for a family , the beds for the kids dropped from the side walls. It was very clean and functional , although some of the furniture was aged with scratched draws. One kept falling off it's runner which was a bit annoying when accerssing things. The safe was spot on (although old), free of charge , accessed using a major credit card for the strip only. Not seen this type before , as I am used to tapping numbers in , but once I got used to it it was fine. I had no problems leaving valuables in there. * ENTERTAINMENT * One word , fantastic ! We went to all the shows in the Broadway Theatre. They were high quality and varied. It was clear a lot of effort had gone in to each performance. We also enjoyed other areas including The Venue , featuring an X factor finalist Andy. This was an unexpected level of quality. What a great singer - shame he didn't win ! The dance couple were amazing. The dance to the 'Bond Theme' left us all speechless. A big thank you to the entertainment team for making our cruise so enjoyable. * SERVICE * The cabin staff and bar staff/waiters were all super polite. Special thanks go to Janette, Alistair, Reymond, Mladen, Jorge and Malcolm - great people ! We had one complaint against a pool attendant who was not polite but unfriendly and confrontational in our opinion. Had this not occurred we would have given the cruise a 5 star rating. The complaint was handled eventually after several attempts thanks to the general manager Malcolm Chapple. TUI need to improve their complaint handling process to prevent unnecessary escalation to this level , and we have given this feedback to them in the hope other cruisers will not be impacted like we were after only a few hours into a 14 day cruise - this spoilt the 'holiday feel' somewhat for a few days. * DRINKS * The all inclusive drinks package is more than enough. Good draught beers/ciders to include John Smiths , Fosters , Strongbow , and bottled to include Becks , Guiness , Corona , Peroni (nice touch TUI) , many cocktails/shorts ,cola ,orange juice and much more. No need to buy the premium package at all in our opinion. * EXCURSIONS * Very very expensive. Recommend 'do it yourself' , haggle with taxi drivers etc as we did. S U M M A R Y A good quality cruise which was very enjoyable , and so nearly a 5 star rating ! Read Less

Went with a party of eight and we all enjoyed the experience overall. This was our fourth cruise with Thomson (TUI) and we've enjoyed them all but this was the best to date. Plenty of storage space in the cabin. Dined in the main restaurant mostly and whilst we had to wait a couple of times in the evening we were given bleepers so that we could go and sit in one of the bars and have a drink until called - thought this was a great idea. Food was very good with choices in all restaurants to suit most tastes. Snacks and drinks are available all day. Entertainment was excellent (Thomsons always has been) particularly in the Broadway theatre and the live room. Late night disco also to suit most tastes - nice to have a soul and motown hour on a couple of the nights. Staff were very friendly and the cabin staff were brilliant - very clean and tidy ship. The "Navigate" App is free and is a great addition. You can access your account, find out details about the ship and what's going on, access and purchase your personal ship photos and make bookings amongst other things. Duty free shopping is very reasonable, whilst at sea, particularly the cigarettes. Good mix of people of all age groups in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Plenty of areas to sunbathe or relax in the shade. The gym seemed well equipped and quite popular (I only know this from walking through it to a sunbathing deck). Deck 11 used for jogging early morning. Three areas for smokers to socialise on Decks 4,9 & 10 starboard side. The relaxed dress codes suited us too. Smart casual in the evening in most areas. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable experience and a few nice touches added. Our only gripe was the cost/allocation of the ships Wifi. Paid £48 for eight days(1200mb) which lasted for three days (Facebook can have a very high usage). We would have prefered it if the usage was limited to 150mb per day as you can soon use up your maximum allowance and have none left for the end of the week. Read Less

We absolutely loved this cruise, the Adriatic the first week and the Aegean the second week. A few places we had been before as in Venice, Split, Dubrovnik,Santorini, Rhodes and Bodrum, others like Koper in Slovenia, Kotor in Montenegro and Chania in Crete we hadn’t visited before. We treated ourselves to a Junior Suite with a balcony this time and it was worth every penny, we wouldn’t settle for anything less next time. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from, we used the Islands buffet most mornings which offered a great selection of cold and hot food, in the evenings we chose to eat at 47 Restaurant where we had some lovely food and were waited on by Aleksander and Tomas who were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Our cabin stewards were Rega and Milos who did an excellent job in keeping our cabin immaculate, nothing was too much bother for them. The entertainment was fantastic, very professional. On going ashore, we did our own thing as it suited us to do that though there were many shore excursions available. The only grumble we had, and it’s a very small one, was that the bars were understaffed - it nearly always took a long time to be served. However, we had all the time in the world, so it didn’t really matter that much though I believe lots of other people felt the same. All in all, we had a wonderful time and hope to book another cruise on Discovery 2 in the future. Read Less

We went as part of a large family group (6 of us in total), two parents and then two couples in our twenties. My parents mostly go with P&O (10th cruise) however they were really pleasantly surprised. Overall we had a great time. Really good food, bar service was sometimes slow when they were very busy but never more than 5 mins wait. I will say that the Buffet restaurant (Islands), whilst the quality of the food is very good, the place is terribly dated, busy, confusing layout. Awful. We only ate there once, and much preferred the MDR and other restaurants. We tried all the 'pay extra' restaurants (Kora La twice) and have to say they were all really great quality with exceptional service by genuinely nice staff members. The only real negative area was Destination Services. On the first day we went to the excusion presentation in the show lounge and ended up walking out as it was so poor. A guy from Liverpool was 'presenting' - actually just reading from a script. There was no interest, passion, and if I never hear the phrase 'its a realllyyyy lovelyyyyy trip' it'll be too soon. We went on four excursions (already booked before leaving the UK), one of which was terrible, but all were very badly planned - where are your staff to check people onto buses? They were also very rude, not to me personally, but I witnessed on two occasions them being really rude to other passengers. If it was me I'd replace the lot. Gym could do with a refurb, but nice Sauna and Steam room area to use. Overall a great holiday was had by all of us. Read Less

My wife and I went for 2 weeks. I was a bit concerned that there would be people over drinking but everyone was brilliant. Lovely polite passengers. Even the children ( there were not many even though it was school holidays) were looted and well behaved. All of the staff on the ship seemed so happy and worked as one team. The entertainment team were awesome.......great shows and always around to talk if you wanted to chat. ....and what an amazing experience of a lifetime listening to the assistant cruise Director Danielle Beck ( who is a trained opera singer) singing 5 opera songs as we left Venice. I'll never forget it. People were in tears under their sunglasses... very beautiful emotional experience. The ship was well decorated and classy.....stunning atrium . The biggest plus was that they whole ship was polite and friendly all coming from the wonderful sprited staffed acting as one big happy classy team. My sister and her husband joined us for the second week. It was their 25th plus cruise and they were blown away with the entertainment. Read Less

we wanted to cruise the greek islands and visit olympia. FIRSTLY :- the broadway show team were outstanding, better than discovery one (and that takes some doing). dining:- on all but one evening on trying to enter the dining we were given a pager and told we would be summoned when a table was available by the two daleks on the door. on the final evening one of the daleks appears in the dining room to take the applause as 'the restaurant manager', surely the restaurant manager's job is IN the restaurant managing, and not on the door allocating tables? after realising that sharing a large table or wanting a table for two made little difference timewise, we opted for a table for two (as we wished to get in for the 22.30 show). when we were finally summoned and gained entry we saw 5,6,or even 7 vacant tables for two people set up for dining whilst being escorted to our table. onto the clientele, the earlier diners (generally older people) dressed for dinner, whilst the latter ones, shall we say the ladies seem to have made an effort on occasion, whilst men wore flip flops, t-shirts, and (non tailored) shorts to dine in (a big fall off in standards to go along with the all-inclusive clientele). bar waiters, often were exceptional, with a great many customers wanting their 'monies worth' of alcohol queues grew, but this queuing was increased by numerous management in white uniforms removing serving staff away to other duties whilst offering nothing themselves to the growing situation. overall discovery 2 has some 'disillusioned staff, who want off' but in general they are fantastic, whilst a huge improvement would be less managers doing nothing, and a few 'chipping in' where required now and then, and understanding how well their staff work when they're not being redeployed. if there are jobs to be done elsewhere, i suggest getting shut of a dozen 'white uniforms' and setting another 60+ waiters set on with the money saved. Was really looking forward to this cruise, but after reading about waiting time at restaurants was a little worried. First couple of time was ok shared a table no problems, was shocked to see empty tables when we had been told the was a waiting time. The next night 40 mins wait, so we went to the Islands where the food was the same as the 47 restaurant, but you had to serve yourself, BUT the deserts is the islands are far far better than the restaurants, and so much more choice. Was very pleased to see Stefan in the Islands restaurant he was on the Majesty, lats year such a nice helpful guy. Last night we went to eat and it was a 50 mins wait for a table, so back to the islands again. Also felt children was running wild on board, up and down the lifts pressing every button, great fun for the kids, but very irritable when your waiting. Jacqui was always full of kids shouting, dont get me wrong i love kids, but we are all on that ship to have a good time. Majesty was taken out of action last year, but had a far better time on that ship. On a good note, the captain was so chatty telling us all sorts of info really nice guy . Ship was very clean, cabin very comfortable. enjoyed the holiday, but think they need to do some serious work at the sit down restaurants, something is very wrong, didn't have a problem on the Majesty. Sailing out of Venice was the most wonderful thing ever, I had goose bumps all the way, Daniella sang opera all the wayout and everyone of the land was waving at the ship (we it seemed like everyone) Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary which itself was great but the ship was a disappointment. It felt more like an ageing holiday camp atmosphere with a regular call from the bridge every morning at 8.00am and second rate entertainment that at times was painful to listen to. Noise from events at the atrium could be heard in mid ship cabins. Free for all buffet where the food was better there than in the more formal dining room which served up rather small portions of everything. The All Inclusive doesn't include everything on the drinks & cocktail menus - you'll have to pay extra for a number of drinks. Usual hogging of sun beds but I suppose we are now used to this. No minibar/fridge in the balcony cabins to keep water etc cool. Smelly drains in the bathroom for the duration of our holiday and very limited storage space in our cabin. With better organisation, cabin improvements, better entertainment, better standards of food and more bar & waiting staff, it could be quite good. We did however throughly enjoy the various ports of call around the Adriatic but overall felt standards had sadly fallen compared to our experiences on other Thomson/Marella ships. Read Less

This offers a decent value for money cruise option. Plus Points * Great entertainment (high quality singing & dancing plus acts flown in). Ignore any comments about Labour club types..they are far better than that. Martin Payne (Cruise Director) and his team were excellent. * Cabin staff are friendly and visible when needed. Everything spotless inside the ship. * Dining alternatives to the buffet and the food were very good with changing menus (except a la carte). Waiter service was prompt and efficient. *Drinks. On the whole fine and we found no need to pay £50 each to go Premium. There is enough quality and quantity on the AI. Plenty of waiters so no need to clog up the bar!! Obviously some better than others but use the waiter service. Bars The Atrium is always busy but that apart they are excellent. Views from Bar 11 are brilliant. * Ports of Call. Excellent itinerary and enough time allowed for DIY shore visits. We didn't do any TUI trips so can't comment. *Loungers etc. We had a junior suite with 2 sunbeds so didn't bother with deck 9 but no one said it was up at silly o'clock and beds cannot be reserved and left unoccupied for more than 45 mins and they tell you this on arrival. The veranda beds, however, do go earliest and it's adults only. If sunbed towelling happens anywhere it'll be there. Minor Gripes * The buffet..I dare say some people love the works canteen approach but we found except for afternoon tea, it is best avoided. Chaotic , noisy and stressful. There are 2 identical food stations but still folk wander around with plates. The food is fine though!! No soft drink station and only one beer station.. Ice cream is Mr Whippy machine type outside between 12 & 3. A waiter dispense so be prepared to queue. * Night time deck cleaning. Probably only an issue on deck 8 cabins but they clean about 2 AM and set out the loungers about 6 AM so you might get disturbed sleep. *Lifts 2 of the 4 central lifts were out of action for the duration of our cruise. Be prepared to walk more than you thought. You get used to it and all the others work. * Money changing. Whilst TUI need to make from you be careful to only change £s as if you change Euros they charge for converting Euros to Sterling then Sterling to the currency you need..( Croatia Kina) for example. *Overall. Acceptable and nothing ever goes 100% so hopefully my review helps you. Read Less
