We went on this cruise because we had been on the Marella Dream in June, we had such a good time on the Dream we decided to go on the Discovery, so we could compare the two. we enjoyed both to be honest, although the Dream is smaller and older ship than the Discovery I'd say the Dream just piped the Discovery for us. We thought the Dream managed the people it had on board better than the Discovery, it just seemed to us that there were to many people for them to cope with comfortably. Don't get me wrong the staff were fantastic and worked very hard to make our stay as good as they could, we just thought the management had packed to many people on the ship. To give you an example if you were out and about at night there didn't seem to be enough seating for all the customers, I'm not sure if some parts of the Discovery were more popular than others but it did look odd that there were a lots of people having to stand because there were no seats available. Food on the Discovery was good and plentiful, we did have an issue with the bacon on the breakfast buffet which I have written to them about but that was all, just going back to the subject of room, we went as a couple and when we went to the 47 gallery or the 47 restaurant we wanted a table for two which we did get, but the tables were only separated by a few inches so there was no chance of a intermate or private conversation because you were so close to the next table. Now again don't get me wrong we are not loners and can mix with the best of them, but if I wanted to make eyes at my wife I don't want the women on the next table getting the wrong idea because we so close together. The cabins were nice and the staff kept them clean, the places we stopped were good, except Santorini which was a disappointment the place would be lovely if it wasn't for the vast amount of people, we expected it to be busy but goodness me it was packed to the rafters. My wife has a disability and walking is a problem so it was even harder for her to get around because the crowds, there were no places to rest for her because all the places were full, so we decided to go back to the ship, but even this was a big problem because the queue for the cable car back down the mountain was so long its was a long hot wait of 20 minutes before we got back down. So if you go on this cruise been warned its busy and hot at the top the crowds are mad and in our minds Santorini has that far away look, it looks better far away. All the other destinations on the trip were better and we enjoyed them. Over all we had a good time we will go again with TUI next year on a different ship and see how they do, look out for my review. Read Less

I got on the discovery 2 at Corfu and got of there as well. I was on the ship for a week and the destinations are lovely Santorini and Rhodes have to be my favourite. The cruise is really good the activity's for kids are a climbing wall a mini golf 9 holes 2 swimming pools one inside and one outside also there is a games room called hideout for the children to chill out and play on the Xbox and the football table. The entertainment is fantastic with 4 different venues to choose from and they have a casino. the bars were clean and sold a verity of alcohols from shots to beer to cocktails. the crew are so friendly saying hello and always ready to help really good custom. The sail away party was absolutely fantastic with live performances from DJ Tomas and a band that I cant remember there name and a flag parade to see were parts of the crew come from. definitely arrange with TUI they are stars amazing job Read Less

We went as part of a large family group (6 of us in total), two parents and then two couples in our twenties. My parents mostly go with P&O (10th cruise) however they were really pleasantly surprised. Overall we had a great time. Really good food, bar service was sometimes slow when they were very busy but never more than 5 mins wait. I will say that the Buffet restaurant (Islands), whilst the quality of the food is very good, the place is terribly dated, busy, confusing layout. Awful. We only ate there once, and much preferred the MDR and other restaurants. We tried all the 'pay extra' restaurants (Kora La twice) and have to say they were all really great quality with exceptional service by genuinely nice staff members. The only real negative area was Destination Services. On the first day we went to the excusion presentation in the show lounge and ended up walking out as it was so poor. A guy from Liverpool was 'presenting' - actually just reading from a script. There was no interest, passion, and if I never hear the phrase 'its a realllyyyy lovelyyyyy trip' it'll be too soon. We went on four excursions (already booked before leaving the UK), one of which was terrible, but all were very badly planned - where are your staff to check people onto buses? They were also very rude, not to me personally, but I witnessed on two occasions them being really rude to other passengers. If it was me I'd replace the lot. Gym could do with a refurb, but nice Sauna and Steam room area to use. Overall a great holiday was had by all of us. Read Less

I chose this cruise for several reasons. 1. Itinerary, following the Adriatic coast I felt it would be more likely to be a smooth sail and the sea would be calm. ( I am not a good sailor). 2. The stop ports were places I hadn't been to before. This was my first time on a cruise and I traveled as a single woman. I arrived after an early morning flight. The check in was easy, quick photograph taken and given card for boarding in a flash. Everything was so organised and I felt that continued throughout the cruise and included departure at the end. The dining was fabulous, especially the main restaurants, with waiter service for breakfast lunch and dinner. Food was really good and well presented, menu changed every day. Italian on upper level fabulous too. Given a pager at busy times, so just went for a drink until table ready. Sharing a table meant that it was quicker to get a table and a great way to meet new people and chat. Didn't manage the A la Carte restaurants as they were booked up very quickly. The buffet restaurant has lots of choices but can be very busy, only went in there for breakfast and also lunch on first arrival but enjoyed it. I attended a singles meeting on the second day organised by the crew hostess. Lovely new friends made, and in particular one friend, that enabled us to do things together including trips ashore and evenings at different entertainment spots. So much to do and still didn't manage all the entertainment on board. My cabin had a window and a lovely comfy double bed, loved it, and a really good steward, who looked after me and my room. So much to say I could go on and on. The singing from the entertainers was superb. The places and excursions are amazing. I had 3 nights after the cruise at a hotel in Corfu, because as much as I loved it, It can be very tiring and hard on the joints. It was wonderful way to end an incredible holiday. The ship is gorgeous! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had been on the Dream twice before and we were quite happy with it so we thought it a good prospect to go with the Dream again. Two people in our party of four needed assistance with walking any distance or standing for long periods especially through airport security or standing in queues. My wife (rods and screws in her back) and the other person in our party with a disability (Parkinsons) requested well in advance when the holiday was booked that some assistance would be needed at the airport for reasons mentioned. I won't go into details but in Aberdeen going out and in Corfu on arrival the assistance was not there with both people abandoned at the airport. On arrival back in Aberdeen we waited one hour at the carousel to collect our luggage. There were good points and not so good points about the trip as far as the cruise was concerned. Our cabin was on deck 5. We had booked a cabin with a window. It looked like areas of the cabin had not been dusted for weeks. The shower leaked at the spray head where the washer had perished and a poor attempt had been made with plumber's tape to fix it. The main shower head didn't spray properly and water went everywhere. I gave up and just strip washed instead. However our cabin steward was very friendly and helpful and tidied the room twice daily apart from the dust. Dirty towels were replaced every day with clean towels. There was dust in many areas of the ship which was not there on previous cruises. I only once saw a crewman with a spray and a duster whereas previously the ship was continually cleaned. The entertainment each evening was a bit of a let down since some of the male singers couldn't pitch their notes or keep their keys. The female singers and dancers were excellent but this only made the males appear to be tone deaf. On a happier note the four of us dined morning and evening in the Orion restaurant where the food was freshly cooked and served with great enthusiasm by the waiters. There was plenty of coffee or tea and cold water at any time of the day. My wife and I went on two excursions and the prices had gone up a bit from last year. However the excursions were very interesting and informative with excellent tour guides who knew their subject very well. Greek people are very welcoming and don't hassle you in the streets like the Turkish people do where every few yards there is a hawker who can't take no for an answer. WiFi in cafes are free but £50 per week on the ship. The shops in the ship are cheaper than the shops ashore - watch for special prices and bargains. We noticed some changes since last year. The crew all wore smart uniforms instead of the Bahama shirts as previously. There seemed to be less crew and they didn't sing or joke this year but went through a process but the joy seemed to have gone. We noticed that there were no more trays to carry your food to the table and the water glasses were a fraction of the size. At the end of the cruise the process of transfers went smoothly and the assistance was better to help the disabled onto the plane and also on return to Aberdeen. Would we go on Marella Dream again? No! Read Less

I travelled with my mother who is 92 years of age and we had help from arriving at the airport right through till we embarked on the ship. The crew helped when getting off and on even when we had to use the tender .All staff were helpfull and chatty in all areas of the ship I felt really comfortable. The ports were good but we struggled at Santorini as we had hills to climb and too many steps it was impossible to do so sat and had a drink then the winery a was okay but when we were told where to go for the cable car it was a nightmare. I booked this trip through the shop where I booked the holiday never again . Read Less

We chose this cruise, because we have always been happy with Thomsons and have travelled with them about eight times. We always look at the itineries,to find one that is calling at ports we haven't visited yet, obviously this becomes more difficult as time passes. The Greek islands have been on our to do list and we certainly were not disappointed. Our flight out and service at Corfu to join the ship ran very smoothly, our cabin was very well presented and staff were on hand to answer any queries. The restaurants are always fun with the staff being so kind and always smiling. The food and choice of menu were posted every day and we enjoyed the choices provided. The excursions were well organised, but we prefer to explore each destination ourselves,Santorini was very pretty and the cablecar was fun.Syros was very unexpected,no one seems to have visited or even heard of it before,we found a very beautiful place to visit, the locals were very helpful andeverywhere was so clean. We found a quiet little café where we could people watch and see the world sail by at the quay side.We would definitely visit again. The other destinations were Zante,Chania on Crete...very busy place with lots of character...and friendly people,we also called in at Marmaris too.The weather stayed fantastic all week which is always a bonus. This proved a very interesting trip around the Dalmation coast and then a second week visiting the Greek Islands. The destinations were magical, sailing in and out of Venice should be on everyone's bucket list but nearly every port had much to offer, even though many places I knew well. There was only one sea day. I have been on several cruises previously and so feel able to comment on the overall experience: Positives: The cruise was well organised, the flight out and back and onto and off the ship was very efficiently run. Our cabin was larger than I expected and the cabin staff were excellent. The dining experience in the waited restaurant was very good and the food quality was high. The buffet restaurants offered reasonable choice of food but it could be a bit of a scrum. The entertainment was variable, there was a theatre group that provided a range of different shows over the two weeks. They were good dancers, the singing could be of a more variable quality. The live singing in the bars and lounges was generally good. A backstage theatre tour was excellent. I chose to go on many ships excursions and they were well organised and used good guides who spoke fluent English. Negatives The ship has definitely seen better days, it feels old although appears reasonably well maintained but to me not terribly clean. Although the weather was very hot, the seas were surprisingl choppy at times and the ship rolled about a bit. I am perhaps more aware of this as I am not a very good sailor. Our cabin bathroom seriously needed an update, it took me the whole cruise to be able to deal with the complicated shower arrangement without flooding the place. Of the shower curtain, well least said. The lift service was poor and very frustrating for all passengers but completely unacceptable for disabled passengers. Smoking on board appeared very pervasive, The ship appeared to be very crowded and getting a seat in the lounges and bars in the evening was hard. Few activités were arranged and it mainly consisted bingo and quizzes. The other activities like carpet bowls were a bit half hearted. The service on board was generally good, although in some areas staff could be sharp or even I venture - rude, something I have not met before on other cruise ships, this is really a no frills and no tips operation so........ The drinking and drinks packages are pushed hard so this kind of culture is part of the cruise and I was surprised not to see more evidence of drunkenness, only one domestic quarrel. I would alway continue going on cruise ships but possibly think twice about going withe the Dream again. Read Less

My wife and I booked this cruise because we both needed a break from work and health issues. Overall we really enjoyed the cruise but there were some things that spoiled it a little bit for us. Let me say that the positives far outweighed the negatives. The ship itself is quite old but is still quite elegant for an old lady. The cabin was excellent but the shower was a bit of a disaster with a mixer tap and 2 shower heads. You couldn't stand under the shower. The food in the Lido Buffet was mostly lukewarm even though we were there when it was newly put on the counters. We ended up going to the Orion which was far better. On disembarking and Corfu airport this was most stressful, leaving the ship just before 11am and having to wait at the airport until 2.05. Everything else was vg+. Read Less

This was our very first cruise and will definitely like to do it again. Going by other peoples comments that we had with others on board the Thomson Majesty we would definitely like to cruise again with Thomsons or maybe Princess. Our son who was with us is disabled and was restricted to a wheelchair when moving about the ship but we had nothing but help from other passengers or crew when on board. Was also surprised that everytime we went ashore the crew insisted on taking him off and on board themselves. Waiter service was better option for us at dinner and ate in Seven Seas Restaurant. Waiters excelled themselves with always getting same waiter and table. Couldn't do enough for us. Food was always hot and menu choices good. Only bad point was that the Jubilee Lounge doesn't cater for too many wheelchairs and to get a good space had to be in place a good hour before the show. Overall we enjoyed it. Outside Plus cabin ok but means one person has to use top bunk. Toilet and shower room small especially for the disabled amongst us. Read Less

Hi everyone I would just like to give everyone a heads up on the drinks package and also the excursions. We sailed on the 3rd of July on the Italian Flavors cruise there were alot of flaws, alot of this blame goes to our travel agent. First of all we were told we would get a room with a window with no obstructed view we also requested a double bed none of this met as there was a big orange life boat on the window with only a small view of the sea and also the room was tiny with 2 single beds so already off to a bad start. We sat for a few minutes then went off to find a bar as we were dieing for a Jack Daniels, we went to the top deck to get a drink poolside, we looked at the bar menu and couldn't believe our eyes (I have included photos of the full Bar Menu which is the same in every lounge/bar) We paid £200 each for the drinks package and were told that EVERYTHING was included Water, Cans of cola, All branded spirits So we were very dissapointed when we learned you had to pay for a bottle of water, Cans of juice even cranberry juice and all cocktails including cranberry juice and what hurt most of all the Jack Daniels! As the holiday went on though we had tried almost every drink on the package and some that weren't as you can get them at a discounted price. The drinks are nice some of my favourites are the Mojito, Mambo, Cafe Frappe and Tequila Bum Bum which is a shot. You also get a Cocktail of the day which is free if your on the drinks package and it usually included one which you would normally need to pay extra for so thats good. We added up all out receipts when we were home and were glad to find we would have spent £540 if we didn't have the drinks package. Overall it is worth it but just a bit of a shock to learn alot of it was extra! Now to the excursions, We asked our travel agent if we would need to pay for them she said 'Just some of them, Yes' but before we went we did do some research and picked which ones we would be doing it cost us £525 in total for 2 people to do - Blue Grotto in Malta, Erice in Trapani, Rome, Pompeii and Godfather tour in Messina which were all brilliant and I would recommend them but also be warned there is ALOT of walking and I mean for hours. The actual cruise ship is OK and worth it for £1500 for us both including drinks, its a little dated and when you get used to it it is quite small but there are lots of lounges and bars to choose from and the entertainment is ok. there are a few restaurants 2 of them are self service and the food is honestly not great we would sometimes wait to 11 oclock at night because that's when they do burgers and hotdogs. They sometimes have themed nights like Indian but the currys are rank and the lamb is like rubber. They were trying to pass of tatty scones as nan bread! and the black pudding is inedible. If you want to go and get some more posher food from the menu restaurants you do have to sit with strangers usually 6 to a table which I personally find awkward the food is decent though. Its mostly Philippines, Polish and Russians who work on the boat they are all really great though and couldn't do enough for you, You never need to go to the bar they just serve you all night at your table and your never sitting without a drink. A couple of other things - * I recommend taking your card as everything is charged to your onboard account they don't deal with cash. You need to put a £400 deposit down for things like excursions, Room service, Drinks ect. * The pools are tiny you could probably fit about 12 people in them * Everytime you go to use toilet there will probably be someone in cleaning it I don't know why but they clean the toilet every 10 minutes and usually lock the door while there doing it * If its your first time on a cruise like myself don't underestimate sea sickness and get some tablets straight away I could feel the boat moving about 70% of the time * If your going on Italian Flavours Sicily is much nicer than Italy and so are the people. watch your time on the tours if your having something to eat because the waiters can be very slow. The shopping is also garbage. * On the drinks menu the drinks marked with * are the ones you pay extra for and the price next to that is the price you pay if you don't have the package. Thanks for reading my review I have tried to be as honest as possible and include as much as I can think of. Read Less

Requested assistance since I have arthritis.  Manchester airport merely gave my sister a wheelchair and told us gate number. They did get me on the plane. Arrival at Corfu was a shambles! waited for nearly an hour in line to get an envelope off reps then on coach to embarkation hall where they were only interested in your card details. No one was there to escort us to the ship - some distance away, no wheelchair in sight. We started across the uneven ground to the ship - made it to the gangway before I fell. Assistance at last. A wheelchair appeared and I was taken to the medical centre where my hand was dressed. Not until we got to our cabin did I realise I had damaged my hip and arm. The hand and arm were dressed the following day. After hearing tales of the cost of treatment I then treated myself. Enough of that grouse. We had paid for an upgraded cabin on deck 7. The carpet could have done with shampooing, drawers and cupboards did not fit properly. The pillows and mattress did not feel clean and had a smell all of their own. Meals, whether in the Marco polo self service or the two waiter service restaurants the food was never hot, (except the consomme soup which was lovely -and hot) drink prices were very expensive The one bright thing about this cruise was the absolutely wonderful, hard working crew. This was our 3rd cruise with Thomsons but it will be our last. Thinking of joining a cruise with them? Think again! Read Less
