Not what was expected. Very unfriendly staff. Outdated vessel. Very small. Not well kept. Food was worse than hospital food. Balcony very dirty. Not a lot of activities on-board for 4 day duration. Age group 50-85. Disembarkment process very early. Shops with expensive prices. Atrium is a small hole in the vessel. Elevators are old and dirty. Not sailing again with a Princess. The staff seem to agree that Royal Princess have higher standards in food, cleanliness and ship entertainment. The cocktails were very overpriced. Coffee tasted like water, looked muddy. Tea was better option. Same breakfast menu every single day. Buffet posts and glass were extremely dirty. Staff around ship couldn’t answer badic questions, but gave honest responses, “sorry, I can’t answer that, maybe someone else knows”!!! I would spend a few hundred more and get a better experience with an alternate cruiseline. Many seniors with books in hand and ready for relaxation. Read Less

We picked this cruise to see Alaska, especially the inside passage and Ketchikan. Although scheduled, the cruise skipped both. That was extremely disappointing. Princess did nothing to make up for it. The staff were excellent, friendly and efficient, especially in the bars and restaurants. The food varied from good to poor, but there was a lot of it. The drink “packages” were overpriced, I don’t recommend them. The room service menu was surprisingly limited. The Coral Princess ship was nice. We had taken this cruise before on other ships, and the ports and shore excursions were excellent, but on this cruise we took no excursions primarily because of the bad weather. Embarkation was easy and quick, but disembarkation was a nightmare. Customs was easy, baggage collection was easy, but the line to get a taxi took two and a half hours! Standing in the cold with 2,000 of my best friends for that length of time was miserable. Overall, of ~20 cruises I’ve taken, this was the poorest. Good luck. Read Less

My husband and I did the Alaskan cruise followed by a land tour with stays at the Princess Denali Lodge and Fairbanks Lodge. We wanted to see the glaciers, but also see the northern lights and visit the arctic circle. We had hoped to learn more about the Alaskan people and those that “live off the grid” as well as learn more about Alaska’s history. Our suite was beautiful and spacious and was best part of the cruise. The enrichment presentations were basic and repetitive. The talks were about mammals and sea life. Unfortunately, the lectures never focused on Alaska’s history, Aurora Borealis, or the glaciers and how global warming is causing most of the glaciers to recede. It was not until there was a surprise Northern Lights show during the early am hours through the College Fjord glaciers, that the Princess Cruise videographer spoke for a few minutes before a mammal talk, that there will be a dvd for sale with the nights light show along with pre-recorded Aurora Borealis events. We missed the Northern Lights that night as we were asleep. The Deadliest Catch excursion was great and I was pleasantly surprised. The Best of Juneau excursion was long and it was surprisingly warm. The glacier was sadly disappearing. The Yukon tour which included an extension bridge was also very long in duration. Again very warm which, of course, had nothing to do with Princess Cruises, but global warming. I forgot to add that the glacier viewing from the cruise ship was beautiful, but not as dramatic as one would think by viewing brochures. The Marjorie glacier I gather was grand at one time, but now it was just stagnant. I understand that it is one of the glaciers that is not receding. The College Fjord was far more spectacular with larger pieces of icebergs floating along side the ship. The land tour was very good. Weather remained quite warm, but overcast in the evening which prevented the Aurora Borealis from being viewed fully. We were only able to see a portion of Denali, but quite impressive. The highlight was the plane ride from Fairbanks into the Arctic Circle. Learned a lot about “living off the grid” and sustainable living in Alaska. I would of loved to have learned about the lifestyle of First Nation, Alaskans, and Indian tribes on the cruise before the land tour. Lastly, there are many fires that are still occurring in Alaska, so smoke may be present. In fact, we could smell the smoke in the plane on our flight to the Arctic Circle. We also could see the Rampart fire from the plane. Read Less

We chose Coral princess to take us around Alaska's inner passage because friends recommended it. It is a smaller ship which I think is perfect for Alaska. Our service was good. The way the food is now a days, I make sure we go to a specialty restaurant for really good food. The coupon book you receive first day has a BOGO deal that will save you $25, but must be booked that day. Be sure to book Sabatinis at least twice and right away! We could only get in once because I waited. We purchased a Balcony dinner served in our room for $100 for the two of us. It was fantastic and I highly recommend it. It includes a cocktail, apps, bread, champagne, flower arrangement, photo, white glove service, choice of filet and/or lobster, fab salad, crabcake encroute and 2 desserts! Best steak and lobster I ever had! I am not one for shows, so I didn't attend any. Hub went twice to hear soprano. We watched movies in room. We had a balcony which was a splurge. If your don't get one ,there are plenty of places to see 360 degrees on top deck. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the timing, it was perfect for our vacation days off and we always wanted to go to Alaska. I haven't been on a cruise for awhile and forgot about the hidden fees when searching, the cruise lines should be more up front on the mandatory fees such as: Taxes & Port Expenses, not when you book it, also don't waist your time buying the wifi internet, its very expensive and very slow, when it works, about 50% of the time. We ate at the buffet most of the time, what could I say, It was a buffet, I'm not a fan of buffet food to start with so lets say it was okay, one of the reasons I don't care for any buffet is that people with illness, poor hygiene and made to wash there hands before entering the dinning room (it really shows how disgusting some people are), although I remember two nights in particular which we had Shrimp cocktail one night and Pho soup on another night, both where outstanding, the rest of the time it was okay, we did eat at the restaurant on two nights and it was better than the buffet but nothing to write home about. The most important thing you should remember is stay away from the Casino, I must say we love to play the slots and we did have fun doing so, but the problem is just in case you happen to win, don't expect the casino to credit your account, we spent a total of $90.00 dollars and when we decided to quit playing we had a credit of between $35.00 - $45.00, we did have a casino employee explain to us that we had to use our ship card to charge our credit card in order to play, and there would be an accounting of all transaction both charge and credit, on the statement that was put next to our door the night before leaving the ship showed the charge but not the credit, I asked the employee at the info desk and they told me the casino is closed and will not open until the ship departs on the next cruise, but not to worry because they will send me a check in two weeks for the credit, it's been almost a month and no check, I asked why is it so easy to charge my credit card when playing the slots and for every extra thing I purchased on the ship but difficult to credit back money, the look I got was like a deer staring into the headlights of a car. All in all the trip was nice, we loved Alaska and all it had to show us, the food at the restaurants on shore where awesome, the people where great and very friendly, and the sites where amazing. A must if you never have, next time we will travel via air and ferry boat (more bang for the buck) Read Less

The service, the cleanliness, the delicious food, the kindness of crew, the beauty of the ship , everything was so, so pleasant and satisfactory. We choose this cruise because we wanted to see the Hubbard Glacier and took the excursion which was wonderful. We had the opportunity to interact with other guests when eating at the Bordeaux restaurant that is very elegant. All the meals there were fabulous and the service pronto and great! The buffet restaurant was very clean and then food was very good with a great service. The amenities offered were numerous and the shows offer at the theater were spectacular, first clase, the actors were passionate and felt deeply what they were doing. There was a soprano with an incredible voice! Coral Princess and it’s crew deserve 5 Stars! We can really recommend this cruise to Alaska that is so beautiful. We really thank the crew that took care of us! Read Less

Over all we enjoyed our first cruise very much and felt like it was a great value. We give the highest scores on most categories except dining (very good but not excellent). The dining rooms were beautiful and service was very good. We felt the regular menue at each meal was a bit limited and felt somewhat tricked by the pay-extra choices at our first dinner. We didn't know better and ordered entrees that had a fee. We discovered this a couple days later when reviewing our onboard statement. We felt tricked. However - the steak and lobster we had was fantastic! The rest of the cruise we felt we had to be on our guard so as to not order something with additional charges. There were these intimidating men with blue jackets at each meal in the dining rooms. They were intense and stern looking and you could tell the staff were terrified of them. We called them "the goons". They gave an uncomfortable vibe to the dining room. They need to lighten up! Unless we were in a hurry, we skipped the Horizon buffet dining room. The mass feeding- frenzy was kind of gross to deal with. We had a couple room service meals that were nice and easy, and quick. Ate on our balcony. Almost all the staff were encountered were wonderful and gave us great service. They all seemed overworked however, and spoke of 12-15 hour shifts, everyday. They were all from oppressed countries and it seemed they were being taken advantage of by Princess. Did not encounter a single American staff member on the ship. Princess doesn't have ultimate control over this but we found the port stops to be extremely touristy - a big turn-off for us. Ketchikan and Juneau were especially bad. Lots of people, souvenir shops and jewelry stores!! Everything else was wonderful. A great way to see some Alaska highlights! Read Less

We wanted a winter cruise to warmer climes and a chance to transit the Panama Canal. Pros: -Our Coral Princess cabin was very quiet and comfortable, entirely adequate. The Promenade Deck was a delight, great place to walk, nice deck chairs to relax in, great viewing of the Panama Canal. -Dinners in the main dining room were outstanding. Had seafood virtually every meal, the staff was fantastic. -The Theatre entertainment was also outstanding. Great shows, highly professional, not to be missed. Cons: -Abusive prices for wines purchased on board in the main dining rooms. Outrageous! -Stern Serenity Area: $20/half day!!! Seriously?! -Lido Deck Hamburgers & Pizza - awful, don't bother. Worst we have ever had. -Breakfast sausage - greasy! -Food selections in the Horizons Cafe quite limited except for salads. -Far too few port stops on this cruise, far too many days at sea for length of cruise. One port stop (Nicaragua) was cancelled due to rough weather. -No self serve of beverages except water, tea, coffee. Even lemonade is by special request! -Internet service is hardly worth paying for, marginal at best. -On-board smart phone messaging between passengers about like Windows 95. Terrible, no sound alerts, often had to be re-loaded, re-booted, exasperating! -Main doors to Promenade deck, Lido Deck, Sun Deck, Horizons Cafe are very heavy wooden things that require a huge effort for most people. Great place to transfer germs, they feel sticky and will knock you down if you are not prepared. The should be automatic! -Overall the ship had a very "Stodgy" feel and atmosphere. Read Less

We chose this cruise to go through the Panama Canal and it ended in San Francisco which is home for us. The ship, Coral Princess, had been in dry dock for 12 days prior to our cruise and the contractors were not finished with the upgrades such as new carpet and flat screen TVs in the rooms. Nice upgrades, but there were rolls of carpet about the ship and painting still being done. Embarkation was delayed for 4 hours as the ship was late coming from dry dock so we sat in the waiting area until we could board. Our cabin had a new TV and the room was thoroughly functional, but the wi fi was not working properly and there were tech's throughout the ship working on it. Cosmetically the ship was not up to the standards we have experienced on Princess. For instance there were speaker covers sitting on the floor in the Princess theater and seats around us were broken and wobbly. Our cabin was a balcony unit and other than the minor cosmetics we were overall happy with it, it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Dining was excellent, the food was great and a nice variety to chose from. The dinners were a little long, averaged about two hours to finish our meals. We had the early seating for dining, the shows are staggered so we could still see them after dinner. We really enjoyed the Production show, well done. The guest entertainers were excellent, I recommend seeing them, comics, magicians, singers. Lots of activities daily on the ship, we never got bored. The service was excellent, the crew is friendly and works hard. We took a shore excursion at every port through Princess and they were well organized. Only drawback is on ports where you tender in took a long time waiting in tender lines both coming and going. Some ports were short on time and some of it wasted waiting in line. Only one of the excursions we took was misleading in the Princess tour listings description. In Cabo San Lucas, MX we took tour SJD-500 that is titled "4 x 4 Desert and Camel Adventure". There was NOT a 4 x 4 ride "on a guided off-road safari adventure". It is also listed there is a tortilla-making presentation which did not happen, very misleading. We did have a tequila tasting as described and the traditional Baja meal was excellent. The camel ride was fun and unique, well organized. The description says "cameras may not be used whilst atop a camel", however we were prevented from taking photos while greeting the camels too. Disappointing since the vendor had there own photographers taking photos, unfortunately their photos were expensive starting at $40 for one! Way too expensive, we returned without a photo of us on the camel. Guests we dined with took the Whale Watching by Zodiac in Cabo San Lucas and they really liked it, said it was fantastic and they saw about 30 whales and several were up close. If we are able to do this cruise again we plan on doing this excursion. This was a great cruise and we would do it again (probably will in a few of years). Read Less

This itinerary has been on our bucket list for a long time. The enrichment activities provided by Chris Roberts and Dr. Angel Colon were most enjoyable and greatly increased my awareness on the topics covered. Please continue these enrichment lectures with fine speakers like these two gentlemen. The crew was awesome and provided perfect service as well as exhibiting tremendous good morale. Special thanks to bar staff, Shailesh, Komang, Edgar, Mario, Geraldine & Sheila. Thanks to IC staff as well including Papa Ver, Anoop, Lito and Yehven. We loved the numerous spaces for the passengers to sit, eat something or have a drink. Our faves were the Wheelhouse bar (biggest fave), Crooners, the IC, MUTS, Explorers bar. The Blue Jade band was the best entertainment and dance band we have heard so far on a ship. We closed the Wheelhouse bar every night due to them. The ship's band was the best we have experienced to date as well. The theatre really need two more exits. Many somewhat disabled people took a lot of time using the two available exits making me really hope that there would be no emergency that required the theatre to vacate. Read Less

Always wanted to do this one. Being able to take 15 days to travel to Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and Columbia was icing on the cake. The on-board experience was excellent. We spent a good deal of time at one club, the service and friendly demeanour of the crew made us feel we were in a favourite neighbourhood pub. On shore trips were also great. Our state room steward went out of his way to attend to our every need. I had a malfunction of my running shoes, a glue repair was required. Ronald was able arrange the fix, and did so free of charge. My wife requested distilled water, and and extension cord for her Cpap machine, it was present at check in. When we checked in to board, everything was streamlined and effortless. From the time we checked in until we were in our cabin was less then 30 minutes. Well done on our return as well. Disembarkation was very efficient, and clearing customs slick. Read Less

The last time I cruised with Princess was for my 30th anniversary and have cruised other cruise lines since. The best move I made was to come back to Princess to celebrate our 50th anniversary. The service was outstanding and every staff member we met courteous and ready to meet all your needs. The ship was in very good condition considering it was an older ship. The bed was very comfortable and the room looked like it had updated carpeting. The food in the main dinning room had a good selection for you to choose from and the quality seemed good. The buffet was smaller than other ships I have been on but the quality and variety seemed good. I booked all my excursions from princess and there seemed to be a good selection. All the tour guides were knowledgeable. The tour we took in cartagena at the avery was excellent if you want to see beautiful birds. I was a little concerned that there would not be enough on the cruise to keep me entertained for 15 days but princess did a could job of always having a variety of things to do. This was our 5th Princess Cruise. Overall we have been happy with all of our Princess Cruises so when we decided to do our bucket list Panama Canal Cruise, Princess was our first choice. We picked the Coral Princess based on our timing with being in San Diego to spend Thanksgiving with our daughter and her husband and being able to take a quick flight to LA for the cruise. The Coral Princess is a nice smaller ship. We never had to wait for elevators and wherever we went onboard there was never a crowd. We’ve been on the Regal and Royal and they are huge so being on the Coral was nice to navigate on and never took long to get anywhere onboard. We did like the promenade deck and did our daily walks there as well as an evening stroll. Many newer ships do not have a full walk around promenade so we really were glad it has remained and maintained the old sailing feel. Overall the food in the main dining rooms was very good. Sometimes there was a bit of a wait for the food but hey, we have nothing but time. Loved our cabin C317. The balcony is about 10’x10’ and is amazing to stretch out on. We watched a lot of the canal from there. Entertainment and the Princess band was top notch! The Sanctuary is on the stern and a bit small but over all we enjoyed our afternoon sea days we booked. They were very accommodating in us being comfortable and if the day was too cold or too much sun we were able to cancel the day of. Staff as always was great. We’d sail the Coral again . All in all a very nice cruise! Read Less

My wife and I chose the Coral Princess for several reasons: the itinerary allowed us to travel round trip from Southern California, home for us; We had sailed on her sister ship, the Island Princess twice before and enjoyed the ship's size and layout; and we wanted to sail through the historic locks of the Canal before experiencing the new locks. Two highlights of the trip to us were the excitement of sailing through the historic locks and the quality & friendliness of the crew. We had been familiar with the construction and operation of the Canal for years, but to actually see this 100+ year old wonder in operation is amazing. No wonder a Canal transit is on so many bucket lists! There are many good viewing locations on the ship. We spent much of our time on the viewing area on Deck 10, forward of all the cabins. There are two unmarked doors at the end of the halls on either side of the ship. Open and go through both doors (they can be heavy from their weight and air pressure) and you are in open space overlooking the bow. The area was popular, but never overcrowded. We also spent a lot of time on the balcony of of our cabin on Caribe deck (C222). Good views of the Canal operations, including the Mules (the locomotives which guide, not pull, the ship through the locks). The Canal experience was enhanced on our cruise when we followed the brand new US Navy stealth ship Michael Monsoor as we sailed through the locks on our second day in the Canal. The Monsoor is just the second ship in its class. This was our ninth cruise on Princess, so we have become familiar with the personable and professional service we receive from the crew. But this cruise went above and beyond what we have come to expect. Every single crew member we encountered went above and beyond what we expected to ensure we had a wonderful time on board. The Coral is an older ship, but very well maintained. And its (relatively) smaller size makes it easy to get around and never felt crowded. We tried two experiences for the first time on this cruise. We had portrait photographs taken in the Platinum Studio during the cruise, and we ordered the Ultimate Balcony Dinner on the night we were anchored in Gatun Lake in the Canal. Both experiences were incredible. The Platinum Studio Shoot is totally different than the mass production photos taken by the other ship photographers. There were taken in a professional studio on board. Our photographer was Nataliia, a lovely young lady who has been with Princess for several years. She proved to be not just an expert photographer, but an outstanding artist as well. My wife had very specific ideas of how the portraits should turn out (as a former model, she is very knowledgeable of studio photography). Nataliia understood everything my wife was looking for and delivered a perfect product. She took several dozen exposures during our shoot, which we then reviewed at a private appointment the following evening. My wife pick out the shot she wanted almost instantly, Nataliia had gotten it perfect! Even the proof we took off the ship with us is wonderful, and the glass mounted final print we received a couple of weeks after we got home was beyond beautiful. The Balcony dinner was an elegant event right in our cabin. Our waiters, Toniano, assisted by Ajay, were excellent. They were both very pleasant, efficient and sensitive to our privacy. They always seemed to know exactly when to serve the next course, when our glasses needed to be refilled or when plates needed to be cleared. Since it was very warm and humid this evening, we asked them to set up the table inside our mini-suite. At first, we were concerned that might be crowded, but it turned out to be a perfect, intimate setting. The meal was fabulous! The menu is delivered to your cabin at the beginning of the cruise. There are only a few choices to make, although I understand from other reviews, that you can make other selections. There are other posted reviews which describe the details of the dinner, so I will not do that here. Rather, I will just mention that the dinner was wonderful, the dishes were all excellently prepared and served, and Toniano and Ajay were outstanding. We only attended a couple of shows during the cruise, spending most of our evenings in Crooners listening to the piano playing of Daniel Oliver. Chinzal and Putu took excellent care of us in Crooners, keeping our glasses full and engaging in delightful conversation. We did go to two production shows: "On the Bayou" in the Universe Lounge (great show, not so great venue for it) and "Encore" in the Princess Theater. Both shows were excellent and should have been done in the Princess Theater. Our favorite show was "Flamenco Express", with Jose and Leticia dancing beautifully and romantically. They did two shows a few evenings apart, first in the Princess Theater then in the Universe Lounge. Their show was much better suited for the Universe Lounge, smaller and more intimate. They also invited a few members of the audience, including my wife, up on stage in the Universe Lounge to dance with them. My wife was thrilled and did a great job with them as she is an excellent dancer. As usual, we reserved Traditional Early Seating. were assigned a table for six with two other couples about our age and dispositions, so we enjoyed their company, Our waiter, Manuel, was excellent. He remembered our preferences after the first night and was always ready with recommendations on that night's menu if asked. We enjoyed conversing with him on a number of subjects, including his home life in India, experiences he has had over his years working for Princess, and other subjects not related to the cruise. He is a very intelligent and insightful individual Our cabin was a standard mini-suite, which we have become use to on Princess ships. There is plenty of room and John, our room steward, kept it spotless for the duration of the trip. We found both embarkation and disembarkation to run smoothly and well organized. Read Less

This was an amazing 60 day cruise that went much faster than we thought. We loved the ports in Asia (all but one in Vietnam) - Enjoyed the activities on board. Liked the smaller ship as you got to know more people. As we were headed to Asia there were Typhoons in the area where we were headed and our Captain with the LA office took our safety into account and we did not get to one of our ports of call. This was a smart move as we did hit rough seas and had we gone to the port it would have been a disaster. As we embarked for our cruise it went smoothly. Princess does well in this area. And at the end of our journey disembarkation went even better. Our cabin was in the front of the ship and on the port side and during the weather we did have waves came over our balcony as we were on deck 8. We are pleased and happy with our 60 day cruise. Also no drink container delivered to my room even though we ordered drink package for soda and virgin drinks. We have cruised many times in the past and first time on Princess. We were on the Coral Princess out of Vancouver. We loved spending some time in Vancouver which is a beautiful city. Embarkation and disembarkation were efficient and well organized. The ship was nice and I believe was reconditioned in recent years. It was very clean with many nice public areas. Cleanliness on the ship was obviously a priority for Princess which was much appreciated by all those on board. Our cabin was a smaller suite with a balcony. Highly recommend balconies on any cruise but especially in Alaska because of all of the viewing opportunities of mountains, glaciers and wildlife. We chose anytime dining for dinner and I would say the quality of food throughout the ship was about average for cruise fare. Plenty of food options at almost anytime of the day. Nice entertainment options during the day and evening. Very pleased with the service throughout the ship. Ports and excursions were excellent. We chose several excursions though Princess and they were well organized. Part of the decision to go with Princess was due to the day in Glacier Bay. I would highly recommend cruising through Glacier Bay so check this out on cruise itineraries. We also did the land tour to Denali after the cruise. Even the train from Whittier, AK to Denali also arranged by Princess was fantastic. It was very comfortable with great views, staff and food. Very impressed with the cruise and land tour including all transfers. Highly recommend Princess and specifically, this cruise itinerary. Read Less

The shore excursions were neatly arranged and ran smoothly, the staff at the excursion site as beyond professional & informative also fun! Our stateroom was perfect--we loved our balcony. room service was always divine as was dining room/restaurant dining. Shopping was awesome , although i think the gift shop should expand a bit with the variety of merchandise. We didn't get to meet her, but the cruise director miranda seemed to keep everything organized and fun.. We absolutely loved all of our ports, excursions, and time spent onboard. it was the cruise of a lifetime for both my husband and myself. Read Less

We have been on 5 cruises in the past but this was our FIRST Princess Cruise and what an Incredible time we had! Princess Cruises really knows how to spoil their passengers! The food that was served in the Bordeaux Dining Room was absolutely Superb! Our waiters were both entertaining, as well as, accommodating. Our cabin was Beautifully appointed and our bed and pillows were sooooo incredibly comfortable! I slept like a princess each night! The entertainment was first rate and the comedian was a total crack up! We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Princess Cruises has it down pat as to organization when it comes to embarking and disembarking. The process flowed very smoothly and was seamless. Even though we had very specific time constraints for disembarking, a front desk staff member was Outstanding when taking our concern into consideration, and took care of the matter, personally. We were able to make our appointment on land, without a hitch, all thanks to the exceptional professionalism of an accommodating front desk Princess Cruise Staff Member. The staff went out of their way to make me feel special during my birthday cruise! I can assure you that our future vacation cruises will certainly be spent on Princess Cruise Lines, from here on out! They also had an ample amount of spacious, clean bathrooms throughout the ship, which made it very convenient for us as well. Read Less

The entire cruise from embarkation to disembarkation was truly amazing. The Ship is great, our cabin was terrific, Club Class is wonderful and the entertainment was very enjoyable. The Princess singers and dancers are extremely talented. The Panama Canal is truly a marvel of engineering and standing just under the bridge as you enter the Canal gives you such a feeling of amazement you will not believe it. The service on this ship is incredible. From Sabatini's to our Dining Room our Head Waiters, Waiters and Assistant Waiters were more that excellent. The food was excellent and the selection of specials was good. In Club Class the Head Waiter Petros was amazing. He cooked different specials nightly. He and the Club Class Waiters and Assistant Waiters always made dinner extra special. If you like trains the Panama Canal Train Excursion is a must do. The Coral Princess is an older ship, but she is a good ship. Needs a little TLC in some places but the feeling of Coming Back New is truly a good feeling on this cruise. Happy Crusing. Read Less

My husband had always wanted to see the workings of the Panama Canal! It was an item on his bucket list. The Coral Princess is a lovely ship - we loved the formal dining and met some great new people onboard. We did the full passage of the Panama Canal on an excursion on a smaller ship. We were able to see the workings of the canal and learn more about the history and function. If you are looking for something for everyone, probably not the cruise for you. It was definitely an older group with few children and young adults. Food was great and the room was very comfortable. We had a mini-suite without a balcony. We found that we really liked the additional space. The entertainment could not compete with some larger ships that we have sailed on, but enjoyable and creative. Nightly movies under the stars were very fun! Very friendly and attentive staff. A pleasant surprise was in Cartegena - a great nature park right at the port! Monkeys, parrots, iguanas, flamingos roaming around. Read Less

Food was super. Interesting changes at buffet. Lobster twice in main dining. Shows were good. Especially Scott Wyler. Voted entertainer of the year for Princess was so funny. The Universse showroom has sofas and arm chairs. Great for shows and movies. Tv did not offer too many channels. We missed seeing Olympics. A few channels like nbc and cbs would be nice. CNN too. The movies were current and many Academy Awardsones offered. The commentator did a great job for the over 9 hours of transit. The fitness center is wonderful. The ports were interesting, but the amount of sea days was a selling point. There is a pool area in Lotus that has temperature control and lounge chairs with thick cushions. So relaxing this time of year had few children. They were supervised and not a problem. I didn’t see many solo traveler get togethers. It’s really more for couples and families. Read Less

At 60 days, this was the longest cruise we've ever sailed on. I found it interesting that by day 2 I was hearing such a strong undertone of dissatisfaction from a number of frequent cruisers, one of whom was already "adding to my list of complaints when we get back".. Ridiculous, we had barely gotten under way. This aside, here is the good, bad and the unfortunate in my humble opinion. The good - - Embarkation and disembarkation went flawlessly. - The crew could not do enough for you. Our steward, Glad, was well named. He was quick with a smile, greeted us by name every time he saw us and most importantly he kept our Mini Suite immaculate. The public spaces, particularly the bathrooms were immaculate throughout the ship.We could have asked for nothing more from the crew that tried to keep the ship clean. - As far as food, here's my take. We opted for Anytime dining because we enjoy the flexibility. We were often given a beeper and asked, by a lovely friendly hostess, if we would like to wait for our table for two. We never waited long enough to finish one cocktail and we almost looked forward this pre dinner ritual. My point is that the wait was very reasonable. Once inside the restaurant, the wait staff was consistently excellent and we experienced many, many servers on this trip. As far as the food itself, the menu was repetitive, again as one would expect over 60 days. We never went hungry, always able to find one or two choices that appealed to us. We found the temperature of the food to be inconsistent and often not quite hot enough and that was an ongoing frustration. We did find the food tasty and well presented and, very important to us, served in rationale portion size so that if you opted to eat a full four or five coursed you did not walk away stuffed - we liked that. The wine was a bit pricey but we reduced our cost by buying wine cards throughout the trip. - We typically ate continental breakfast in our cabin from the International Cafe, where they did an outstanding job. The fact that Princess is now issuing coffee cards that are good for this voyage only, and not forever seemed to get people crazy. $31 for unlimited brewed coffee along with 15 specialty drinks seemed to me to be the best buy in town yet people bitched for 60 days - so boring. They did run our of large cups, twice, and that was troubling and someone needs to be spoken to. - Lunch was usually at the buffet where the salads were great and the food was just what you would expect. We also love the pizza and burgers on the deck. The Irish Pub Lunch and pizza at Sabbatinis were not special and we only went to each one time. No need to revisit. - We ate at two specialty restaurants, Bayou and Crab Shack - both were ordinary, no better than the MDR. The main difference was very large portion size and as I said earlier, I don't view that as a benefit. - We missed a port due to weather, oh well. We missed a second port due a bad screw up, either by Princess or the folks supplying the ship with fuel (or by weather). Either way, we made the best of a bad situation on our unscheduled day in Yokohama by seeing going to a Miyajima which ended up being a highlight of our visit to Japan. We regret missing Kyoto that day but we made lemonade, if you know what I mean. - The ship did run out of lettuce for several days - a bad screw up and someone should be taken to task. The end of the world - no. We eat salad every day and managed to survive. The tome of some of our fellow passengers was ridiculous. There was so much to eat. - The shows were standard fare, a few great shows, a few shows not to our taste and a great many good ones. The shows where they brought local performers on the ship were very fun and a nice change of pace from typical showroom headliners. The orchestra was terrific and the singers and dancers always did a fine job. - A real highlight of the trip for us was the nightlife in The Wheelhouse where the band, Blue Jade, had us dancing nearly every night (that's why we missed a number of shows). They were the best ballroom band we've seen on any ship and we couldn't wait to get in there every nigh to dance and mingle with our new friends. The party band, The Sound, were also really good. Along with a good piano player, a nice guitarist/singer, the string duo and a fine singer in crooners music was not a problem. The piped in music pre dinner in Explorers could have been much better. - As far as the itinerary, holy cow, it was great. The excursions were good for the most part, They met our expectations. We had one bad experience and were disappointed that the excursion desk did nothing to answer my complaint. They suggested I write head office on my return and I did. I'll update my review if they respond. - WE had a mini suite, B22, and while it was tired we liked the extra space, the roomy balcony, the bathtub and everything worked well. As I said earlier, it was kept immaculately. - A big complaint of mine centers around the elimination of Happy Hours and a very poop effort in the nightly Elite/Platinum parties. Princess eliminated every opportunity to reduce our drinking expenses. More importantly, by eliminating Happy Hours the venues during typical HH times are empty instead of filled with passengers having a good time. This was a major misstep. I wrote management before the cruise on this issue and was told to wait and see the replacement promotions, well there were none. My informal survey would indicate that many passengers simply drank less, spent less money, and had less opportunity to connect with other people. This brings me to my biggest concern with Princess and that's my belief that accountants are in charge and that these accountants in particular do not understand this business. I don't know how much better the food was in years past, I've only been cruising for 10 years or so, but I do know that happy hours fill lounges or deck bars and people have fun and that's the idea. It's sad to see musicians play to an empty room, which we saw every day between 3 and 4. To close - Despite the warts, we enjoyed the cruise thoroughly and were sorry to see it end. The ship was not new but we loved the deck plan, our cabin, the service, the music, the itinerary, etc and would sail on her again in a heartbeat. I hope Princess decides to step up the game regarding some of the issues that are beginning to make this look like a bargain cruise line. If they do that, we'll continue to sail this line for a long time, if not, we will have to explore other opportunities. Read Less
