NCL used to be better. This is our fourth time sailing on NCL and they just keep going downhill. Even though this is a rather new ship, we did not enjoy ourselves as much as previous cruises. Ports: The destinations are great (but not much to the credit of the cruise line). Although would be better to dock at Stockholm rather than faraway Nynashamn. The boarding time for Nynashamn was changed without any prior information given to me. During booking, the ship is schedule to depart from Nynashamn at 5pm (meaning all aboard by 4.30pm). So I booked the dinner show at Illusionarium for 5.30pm. My dinner booking was shifted to 8.45pm when I get on board with only info of "program changes". I then realised the ship will depart from Nynashamn at 7pm instead just 1 day before reading the newsletter. On reaching Nynashamn, NCL put up posters in lifts that all aboard by 4.30pm. This is so confusing! My wife called up guest services and they apologise for the wrong info in the lifts. NCL can't event get this simple information right? And shouldn't they inform all passengers via email before the cruise since the timing has changed since booking? Dining: We used to enjoy NCL Specialty Dining and used to pay cover charge for it and also ultimate dining plans. The new ultimate dining plan now has so many limitations. We prebooked the ultimate dining plan for 5 meals and printed that we booked it from NCL website. We also prebooked Illusionarium at lower price since we are on the ultimate dining plan. When on board, we were told that our booking for the ultimate dining plan did not go through. I was shocked as I have printed from NCL website that I already booked it. If I have not booked it, I wouldn't be able to book the Illusionarium at lower price. No use arguing with NCL. They just say their system shows that it was not booked. I asked them, isn't NCL website also their system? They just say sorry, they have no answer. We then bought the ultimate dining plan for 5 meals again on board. So whatever NCL website shows may not be true? So NCL website can say that you have paid for the entire cruise and when you turn up, they can say you have not paid? It used to be that you can order anything you want for Specialty Dining. We used to be able to order any number of appetisers, (we usually only order 1 main) and any number or desserts. This is no longer so. Only 1 appetiser, 1 main and 1 dessert. There is also NO Lobster option at all in Le Bistro and Cagney's. We only had lobsters at Ocean Blue but have to pay additional to go to Ocean Blue even when under the ultimate dining plan. Is there any more lobster night in MDR? I do not know as I was not at MDR most of the nights. Ship: This was a problem when we were in Norwegian Jade. The assigned smoking area is right in front of the children's pool. When the ship sail and people smoke, all the smoke is being blown into the children's pool area. The solution is really simple. Just assign the smoking area to the other side (starboard instead of port). Jade told us they can't do it halfway through the voyage as smokers will be confused where is the right assigned area. Now, after 2 years, we face the same situation for Getaway. Is it so difficult for NCL to shift a few smoking signs? Why do they need to blow smoke to our children playing in the children's pool? I can't be bothered to tell NCL this time as they will tell me they can't change the signs. I just removed the gratuities that my daughter need to pay. It doesn't solve my problem but I hope that it sent NCL the message. Cabin: As mentioned by others before the balcony area is so tiny. Activities: The gym is only opened at 6am. Many ships that I been before (including NCL ships), I can go into the gyms before 6am without any problem. Just leave the door open but this is too difficult for Getaway to do. Entertainment: Nothing memorable. Best one I would say is the performance at the Illusionarium but have to pay extra for it. Because of that, the performers have to work so hard for so few audience (no where near full house). Disembarkation: I left the ship early to go downtown to pick up a rental car to drive back to the ship to fetch my family. They disembark later than me. My wife let my 4 year old daughter stay in the terminal and pop outside the terminal for a moment to see if I have arrived as it was very cold outside. To her horrors, NCL staff don't allow her back into the terminal to get the 4 year old out! I will leave out the details of the shoutings and confrontations to just get my daughter out. Does NCL not have any common sense? It was not an immigration or border control area. Just a building where NCL try to do some crowd control. No way to negotiate just for that? NCL intent to keep my 4 year old? Read Less

We started the cruise dinning experience with my wife being told that it will take some more time to get a simple cup of hot chocolate it has only been 10 minutes. this is the first cruise that I have been on that I came home without gaining weight. I remember the cruise director in 2006 telling us that you come on as passengers and we roll you off as cargo because the food is so good. Today that is not the case. Their Shore excursions are not even close to the quality they were when they had ship employees as guides. When we booked our departure transportation to the airport Princess made sure that all departure excursion were take care of first. So we were forced to wait an additional hour past our departure time. Then we were dropped off at the wrong terminal building at the airport. When I ask what to do if we miss our flight they told us you will have to contact the airline as it was not Princess's fault. After 50 year of being in the cruise business you would think that they would have a better system in play. We are Platinum level members of the Captains Circle and will look for other Cruise Lines before sailing with Princess again. Read Less

I travel several times a year, including cruises with Ponant, Uniworld, Viking, Celebrity, & Holland America. This was my first (& last) Royal Caribbean cruise, booked only because I was joining a small group that had already commited to Royal Caribbean. The dining room staff were wonderful; while we encountered rude staff at the coffee stations in the Windjammer, all other staff there were helpful & courteous; overall, the food was good; the cabin was laid out nicely, with ample closet space (for 1 traveler), hangers & storage for folded clothing, toiletries, etc.; clean towels were provided daily & the bed was comfortable. Everything else was terrible. The nightly entertainment was cheesy, flashy, unbearable most nights, while good performances were enjoyed on 2 nights. The "library" consisted of a tiny designated corner of the bar, where wait staff often interrupted, asking for drink orders. We were confronted with hideous, loud music in various venues on the ship. My cabin offered an empty shower gel dispenser in the shower & 1 tiny bar of soap at the sink. I asked my cabin attendant for shower gel, only to be told that "only people who had suites" were provided with same. I was traveling with a group, some of whom were in suites & mentioned to their housekeeper that I had been provided with only the tiny bar of soap, after which their cabin attendant filled my dispenser. Others in my group claimed that their sheets were changed often. My bed linens were never changed during the 11-night cruise. When departing the ship for shore excursions, we were offered caffeinated beverages (and sometimes even water - what a concept!), for, as I recall, a price of apx. $5 per can. "Never again..."
