Chose this cruise because it was departing from Charleston, SC and going to San Juan. The food selections and quality was amazing. The entertainment especially Zack Daniels in the piano bar was great fun every night but Thursday. Thursday is his drinking night and he was not performing. The shows in the Liquid Lounge where really good. The Acoustic Jams with the young couple Unity entertained us almost every night. They sang a variety of songs and he whistles well while she plays the drum. Ketut and Joyce took good care of our rooms and the Omelet Station on the Lido deck in the Havana Bar was my favorite breakfast most mornings. I would recommend this ship to the 50 and older travelers. They made up 90% of the cruisers onboard. If you require a wheelchair to get on and off the ship this port and this ship does it better than any of the more than 14 ships of 6 different cruise lines I have traveled on. I can't wait for our next cruise on this ship in January 2020. Read Less

I wasn't super impressed with the cleanliness of my room, to be honest. There seemed to be some dust, or maybe mold - the first night, my nose was going crazy. Also, aren't cruises supposed to have a ton of entertainment? I feel like I was waiting for events the whole time. The food was okay. The breakfast was great, even though my girlfriend didn't really bother eating most of the stuff that was served. The dinners we found to be great. We weren't exactly "impressed", but we at least enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, so we have nothing really to complain about this. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the music! There were live bands, and we actually got to hang out with one of the guitarists after their set. He was super cool, and he kind of made the trip worth it. We also appreciated the nearby parking with Instapark once we got back to the mainland. Overall not a bad time, but not really impressed, to be honest. Read Less

This was my second cruise I have been on, the sunshine was awesome I loved the people that worked on it they made everything fun,the food was amazing way better than my first cruise. I had the best time of my life on this cruise I swear I did not want to get off. Matter of fact my cousin and I are coming back on the sunshine in October with other family members who have not been on a cruise before so I hope and pray we have as much fun as we did when we went in may. I can not wait to get back on the sunshine. I loved the games they played with the music. The club on the boat was very very fun. The drinks were amazing the kiss on the lips is the best yet. I recommend the carnival sunshine to anyone so I hope it is the same when we get back on in October. : ) Read Less

While this cruise/ship is not the most elegant, it certainly is a lot of value. Our cabin was quite adequate (an inside cabin) as we spend very little time in it. The food was quite good, especially in the dining room, but it is not quite as good as on previous Carnival cruises. We found the staff to be excellent. They were quick, competent, and remarkably friendly. The entertainment is quite good in the main show room, the comedy club, and throughout the ship. The ports of call (Nassau and Freeport) are a couple of our favorites. The convenience for us (we live in the Charleston, SC area) is especially good, and the staff at the terminal is remarkable. They got us on board quickly and put us in a great mood right from the beginning. What more could you ask for? My wife and I will definitely be going on a lot more cruises on the Ecstasy. Read Less

Referred by family and they where correct.! Best B-day ever Best vacation ever. Best bartender I have ever had the pleasure of tipping, would have needed 2 atm's to pay for the awesome service and the "guest's comfort comes first attitude" that was displayed. really can not put in words (THANK YOU PACHARIN). This is why and where I will spend my vacation from this point. The wait staff was really good they where always there, I never waited for anything. First time in my life my coffee cup was never empty. The ships crew and captain where also superb. All in all It was a new view of life that I could have missed and now that I have had this time with such beautiful, wonderful, kind people, well, how do you not go back again and again. I would cheat myself of being treated like I have never been before. P.S. No Bernice, I would never forget you either. You guys are the BEST. THANK YOU ; ) Read Less

A friend of mine mentioned he and his wife were going to celebrate their 30th anniversity & my wife and me were coming up on our 25th anniversity. So we decided to surprise her and take our first time ever cruise to theBahamas. My friends had never met my wife prior to (Co workers). We planned to get her on board with out her knowing she was going on cruise. I had paid for it via a Walmart credit card and had my daughter help her pack for "Charleston week" we kept telling her we would be there the whole week and then over dinner my Friend Joe and Karen mentioend how his cousin "Larry" was retiring from the first mate position and it was a big deal, so Joe Karen and I also told her we were going to a bed and breakfast place Sunday check in at 3:30 but we were going to Larry's retirement party that moring, Joe and I reloaded the luggage and came back to pick up the girls. Well Joe and Karen went in front of us and would tell each point the fast version that it was our first cruise and we would be going to "Larrry's retirement party" and they would say, have a great time at Larry's party. We even had Joe pay for the parking in front of us so when we pulled up they said oh don't worry Larry already has you covered, have a great time at the party. Joe and Karen managed to stay just enough ahead of us so when we got up to a check point they would smile and say, have a goodtime at the party! Once we made it into the atrium one of the crew members walked up to us and asked are you Emily? She said yes, she said. Congratulations your going to the Bahamas! The ship was awsome, the cabin stewad "Poe" ( E152) was great he did extra stuff for us, iced down the water bottles and made sure we had silverware and plaplate for our anniversity cake and was super happy all the time. The dining room waiter (Hari) was too good to us, he was always dancing and singing to himmself, really made the experience special. ( he kept bringing out food we lmuch) Wow did he take good care of us, he was over the top; service . It was the best service I have ever had at any resturant. Kunyakorn was extremely friendly and gave us terrific service there too. Every single service person was never impatient, unbelievable. We had the best vacation of all time on the Carnival Fantasy cruise ship Nov 8-13-2015. The Bahamas. Private island dolphin swim and beach day and all inclusive reef snorkel beach shopping excursions. They were excellent - we enjoyed them tremendously! Great job! The cruiseship crew really made this so great, that was the best part of the trip; everyone was so nice, from the boarding to debarking this was the best trip we had ever had. Very cool! Keeping this a secret for 6 months was hard. Our travel agent kept me up to speed with deals and was great! Again this was the best experience on a vacation we had bar none. I don't know about other cruise lines but this was excellent! And I think I won few husband points for all of the carnival team's efforts. You guys really made it special. Thanks so much! If your thinking about taking a cruise I can say they were fantastic to us the whole trip. Highly reccomend! Activities and events were well planned and we just enjoyed hanging out and enjoying the whole experience. Read Less

The activity's in the camp were really fun and awesome, the gym is good, and the swimming pool. The shows in the theater were awesome, and the food was too good. The cruise was spotless and clean. The games and everything was so good. The library, the deck, the starting horn, the deck, the carnival logo on the deck. Exploring the cruise and running around it was fun, and the running of the cruise was fun. The room key was really good and fun. And the shopping area's were good. Background - I took this same cruise in December of 2011 and again in May of 2012. In December, my wife got a job offer and had to start when when were scheduled to go on the cruise, so I went with a friend. In May my wife could go so we booked the cruise again. Not because it is such a great cruise but because it is a convenient drive from Raleigh and the price is right, especially when you account for cost savings of driving rather than driving. In December, the cruise passengers seemed to be a lot of young African American professionals. They were a lot of fun and really knew how to party. I would hate to see their bar bills. The May cruise I call the red-neck cruise. Enough said. They were fine just not what I am use to. There were more families in May than December. The kids were well behaved and well occupied by the Camp Carnival staff. The kids seemed to be having a very good time. Pros - As with any cruise, no laptop and no cell phone makes a vacation for me. Food was adequate. Cabin service was very good. The gym is adequate. The entertainment was OK. NCL usually has better entertainment than Carnival but NCL disappears from the Caribbean in April. The Boardwalk band was the best on the ship. As in December, they did a really good Beatles cover during the Beatles tribute show on the last night. They also play more of a rock mix of music during their other performances on the Lido deck. The tribute to nightclubs show still stinks. Carnival needs to fire their entertainment producers. A flying and talking couch, really? They had different lead singers from December but they were no better. The dancers were good. The comedians in December were funnier than the ones they had on the May trip but they were still good. The serenity deck is the only place we hung out. It is quiet and there is shade. The food was OK. The only issue I had was the noise level in the main dining rooms was pretty high. We had 10 people at our table and it was difficult to hear the people across from you. The waiter, Lois, was very good. The staff in general were very friendly. They seemed to like it when you ask about where they are from etc.. They work very hard. I was disappointed they did not offer the kitchen tour on the May trip like they did in December. My wife would have enjoyed it. I found it fascinating when I did it in December. The cons- The entertainment was marginal at best. The main thing that I really disliked was disembarkation in Charleston. Carnival was OK, it is the port layout that stinks. Once you get through customs you have to wait forever for the shuttle buses to take you to the car park. Even after that you have to still walk out of one building, cross the street, and into the next building. It would have been faster and easier to walk from the port building to our car. Charleston needs to fix this. It took 2hrs from the time we got in line to leave the ship till we got to our car. That is stupid. Would I do it again? Maybe, because it is so convenient from Raleigh and the price is right when compared to 5 days at the beach. If Charleston fixes their processes, then my answer would be a definitive "Yes". Read Less

We have always sailed out of Florida, which involves a flight and overnight stay. We chose this cruise because it was a 3 hour drive to Charleston, very low price for cruise. We are not huge Carnival fans and have been to Nassau and do not enjoy it. But it was January and we were in the sun so who cares!! We used to book balcony rooms. Last cruise we changed to inside cabins. I would prefer a balcony but really we don't use it that much so would rather save the money for other things. This room either was bigger or seemed like it because there was no couch in the room. All we ever use the couch for is dirty clothes so we like the extra room. The bathroom was much bigger than we have ever had also. Still just shower stall, sink, toilet, but elbow room also! This was our first time on a smaller ship. I did miss the speciality restaurant option. I am picky, I do eat meat but very little. So couple nights in the dining room, I had a hard time finding something. The Mongolian option was very unappealing, the vegetables were always empty or pitiful so we never ate it. The deli does make good sandwiches. Pizza is pizza. Most of the staff was friendly and good service. There were a few that even though the service was still good, it was obvious they hated their jobs. It was like they refused to smile. Nassau we pre booked on our own a day at Atlantis Aquaventure. It's a must do once thing. No food or drink included but we could use all the pools, water rides, and the Dig. Freeport we got off the ship briefly because we had never been there. It was what we expected. We do not enjoy shopping at straw markets but we went, about a 20 minute cab ride. After about 3 minutes we walked to free beach access. Water and sand were beautiful. Yes, some people selling things, but not aggressive, just walk by and ask, you say no, thank you and that's it. Had a drink in the sand from the conch bar. Overall, good quick getaway. Wish more ships would leave from Charleston. Read Less

This was the second time I have cruised out of Charleston. The experience was a lot better than the first time four years ago. It seems the Port has finally figured out how to handle the ships. We were able to board without any delays. This is an older Carnival ship but it was well maintained. The bathrooms seem bigger than on other ships I have been on. The entertainment in the Universe Lounge was cheesy at best. I was surprised at how little diversity there was in the singers and dancers. They were not very good. The comedians were great! They also had a 2 man regee band that was good. The best show I saw was the Beatles tribute. The 4 Asian guys who did some of the Beatles covers were the best of the show. They were in only this show and only did a couple of songs. The food was always good. Only used the food trough for breakfast. The main restaurant was always good. You can't go wrong with chocolate melting cake. Nassau was disappointing. We did the Blue Lagoon. It would have been better if the weather was better. You can't leave early since you have to wait for your boat to pick you up. In Freeport, the weather was not very good. We did the bike ride tour. Very good tour. Not hard at all even if you are out of shape. The beach looked great and so were the gardens. The marketplace they ended at was OK, if you are into that stuff. You will not find deals like you will in Roatain or Cauzmel. I would do this cruise again but I think I would do the Freeport/Key West version. Both ports have wifi if you need to contact home. Nassau has free wifi in the port building but it is very slow. Freeport has it in the bar and costs $3. Read Less

We drove to Charleston from Columbia, SC. Directions were good from I-26 to the port. We arrived at the entry/parking area about noon and were on the ship in about one hour. Parking is somewhat expensive at $15 per day. We booked directly with Carnival about 3 weeks before departure and got a really price for an interior cabin. The weather for our 5 night cruise was not too good. The first 3 days were mostly cloudy and rain or drizzle. Read port reviews section for our activities in Freeport and Nassau. We felt all of the crew on the Fantasy were very nice and hard workers. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment, magic show, and dinner. We were on the cruise for Halloween. We did take costumes and had a great time. We and many others wore costumes to the formal dinner that night. We felt the food for breakfast, lunch and dinner was very good. The ship appears to be very clean. We did have very dirty water coming out of the hot water spigot during our cruise each morning. I'd let it run for about 5-6 minutes and then it would be clear. We did the self-assist disembarkation. The ship was about 30 minutes later into port than expected. Still we were off the ship and through customs in about one hour. Highly recommended - a new relatively NEW tour is right onboard. Do it. It is the "Behind the Fun" tour. Book first day or early next morning before orientation meeting. Only two groups of 16 go on this tour for $55. You get to go places normally not possible and learn to further appreciate the work and planning behind a cruise. Galley, crew mess area, bridge, engine control room, stage area and more are included on the tour. My wife got seasick on our last full day at sea. Winds were about 34 knots and very choppy. I did not get sick, but, it was fairly rough with some noticeable swaying. We had a great time! We will cruise again on the Fantasy again January 25, 2012. We have cruises 3 times before and 2 of those have been with carnival. While we had a good time together as a family on our cruise, I have to say that we will be trying a different cruise line on our next cruise. The Fantasy was an older but well maintained and updated ship. The issues we had with the cruise were related to service and entertainment. We dined in the Celebration dining room and booked and had confirmation we were on the early dining. We noticed on our sign and sail card at checkin that they had moved us to late dining which really wasn't good for us in that we travelled with an 8 and 11 year old. After several attempts to change the time to what we booked, we eventually had to resign ourselves to the late dining. We have always had great service from dining staff on past cruises but were very disappointed on the Fantasy. The staff for our section were not friendly or very service oriented. We are not very high maintenance customers but receive similar service from disgruntled workers at fast food chains. Of course their were exceptions to the service but for the most part, we were not very impressed. We have purchased the wine packages on past cruises without incident but on this cruise we had multiple issues while trying to use the plan with our dinner. While maitre'd did come to the table and apologize (we had not complained so I'm guessing the staff told him of their mistakes), we won't buy the package again due to all of the hiccups. We understand mistakes but a good attitude from staff would have gone a long way. The steward staff was excellent and were always pleasant. They never seemed to sleep and the room was kept very clean. The ships entertainment was the worst. The shows were laughable (except for the comedians!) to the point where our kids even asked if we could leave. One of the comedians was pretty good (Darren ?) but the "cowboy comedian" needs to get back to the rodeo! Very nice guy around the ship but sorry, just not funny on stage. Not sure what the cruise line could have done about the last issue we had other than maybe more visible security but the crowd on this ship were really out of control. I don't mean just the normal drinking and partying that is typical for cruises. This cruise (and I don't know if it was just this particular week) definitely seemed to have catered more to young black cruisers which i have absolutely no problem with except for the large groups that were roaming the decks being very pushy in the lines and cursing loudly no matter if kids or senior citizens were present. We saw incidents of threats and near violence that has no place on a family friendly cruise. Again, obviously their were lots of friendly people of all races on the ship but the behavior of the obnoxious few definitely affects our decision not to take this cruise again. Read Less
