I chose this cruise for the time that was allotted to staying in Bermuda. It was changed and we were cheated time on the island. The only reason I booked the cruise was for the time I was told we would be there which was changed and I do not know why. We had a balcony room. The first night something sweeked all night. I reported it woke up the next morning it was still sweeking. Told the cabin staff person he went and found it. It was a door left ajar. The next night the people in the cabin had a huge argument at 4 in the morning which last for an hour and half. One evening the room smelled so bad that I literately thought I was going to lose my dinner. We were in a cabin in which the room attendant never put up the bunk beds so we literally had one chair and one stool for four people. I had to move my bed to the middle of the floor at night because I thought if it as a jail cell. (Not that I know what that really feels like). I am a gold member so this was not my first cruise, but may be my last on Carnival. I am going to file a complaint. No one on our bus going back to parking lot said they wanted to return when asked by the bus driver. This ship needs to be docked and Carnival needs to refund passengers money for this cruise!!!!! This cruise was supposed to be 3 days docked in Bermuda. It was the entire reason we booked this cruise in the first place so we could take our time on the island. The itinerary was consistently changing and eventually we ended up with one full day and 2 extremely short partial days. My wife and I ended up spending more money on excursions and having less time to actually enjoy the island (like we originally paid for) No one on the crew really even acknowledged our concerns or offered "anything at all" to try to make it better. I would think it was maybe just my personal thoughts alone, however, virtually every other passenger I came in contact with was complaining about the same thing. I have been on 6 Carnival cruises in the last several years. I generally don't bargain shop for cruises... I see a cruise I like and I book it. Carnival has been my go-to in the past, however this last experience has caused me to start looking elsewhere for future cruises. The sad part is, that for the most part the crew was as expected... the food was as expected.... the entertainment was as expected but the fact that the itinerary was drastically changed.... and then.... there were no apologies from the crew, nor was there really any acknowledgement that this may negatively impact peoples vacations. Its as if everyone tried to sweep it under the rug. That's the part I have the biggest issue with. It has caused me to lose faith in Carnival. Sadly, my 5 previous cruises were great, but this last cruise will most likely be my last with Carnival. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it spent 3 nites in Bermuda. after final payment was made cruise changed from staying in port, to leaving at nite and coming back in the morning. my wife and I decided to check into a hotel for the three nites, whiched saved the vacation. now, about the ship. on boarding, the sewer smell was so bad and the stale cigarette smoke was awful. food on the ship was ok, but nothing formal.. you eat, you don't dine. service on the ship is marginal at best. no more free room service, no more having your room cleaned two times a day. however, they do let you choose morning or nite service. the ship is rusty and in my honest opinion, carnival needs to sell it or scrap it. furthermore they should probably do that to all of their fantasy class ships. if you are booked on the ecstasy, I would consider changing ships, if not, you were warned. I will book on carnival again, but not on fantasy class ship. no how no way!! Read Less

This was the worst experience i have encountered in 21 cruises. This could be my last if i ever recover. Day one the embarkation was the strangest i have encountered. We arrived at the port, by shuttle. Checked in outside and went and stood in the cold outside a fence for thirty minutes. Got onto the boat and went through check of luggage where my closed canned drinks were opened to check for alcohol, even though I told the checker that was not where i hide my alcohol. Allowed to start onto the ship and then waited another half hour at ramp going onto the boat. Being Platnium was not important, whoever was there went on. Went to Lido deck and half the first of many bad meals on this boat. Lido foo was not very good, Then had our safety briefing which was longest in several years. Went to dinner at your time dining. Food was better than Lido. but it did not have to go very far to be that. Food was cold when delivered. Day two sea day . rained and windy most of day. Normal day stuff was on boat trivia ect. Dinner was strange in dining room first time had hash bounds delivered instead of menu item of baked potato. Visited the Casino. Small and not very heavily used on most of the cruise. Day three arrived in Bermuda at 5pm. Raining again. stayed on boat this night Day four left boat and walked around dock area. Raining again. . Notified we would be leaving early the next day because of weather on return. Cabin was very loud, Found out that they were running thrusters to keep boat next to the dock. They did not make this known. Only way i found out was Carnival refunded part of my brothers money because of the noise and the smell on riveera deck. We left and found the bad weather on the next day. Very high winds and high seas. Bad for the sea sick folks. Went to show this evening and dancers sat to sing the show because of the rocking Overall the ship was in average conditions, the deck was not clean on many occasions The upper decks were closed on most of the sea days because of winds. Service on the ship was good on most occasions. Cabin was fine first time i have had interior cabin, space was fine only problem was excessive noise while docked over night. Did no excursions through Carnival, howver it was easy to get around and see different areas. Taxis, Ferries . I would not take this cruise again on the Ecstacy. The ship is not a very good product for Carnival. It is small, dirty . Port of Charleston obviously does whatever they can to discourage passengers from leaving there Read Less

This was my fifth AND LAST cruise on Carnival. We wanted to go somewhere special and visit a port that we've never been to. I was very disappointed that our itinery had changed. I had checked several days in a row before our vacation, and even checked Carnival's website at 7am the day of the cruise. There were no itinery changes mentioned. We found out when we checked in at noon and they told us that we were going to Key West and Cozumel. We've already been there a few times, so we weren't too happy about it, but we wanted to keep a positive mind-set, especially since we paid a lot of money for this vacation. We called Carnival to ask for a price adjustment before we actually boarded the ship, but I was told they couldn't do anything until we got back. "Not being able to do anything about it" is a common phrase we heard this past week. The other option was to not go on the cruise, but we would not be reimbursed. I don't understand how they could have waited so long to make this decision. It's just not right of them to do something like that. Now, this is what upsets me more. You have a couple thousand people that are going to be disappointed, especially since they paid a premium to go to Bermuda, and Carnival doesn't offer a price adjustment from the start of the trip or at least throw in some freebies (internet, free soda, alcohol, daycare, photos, on board credit, etc.)? I'm not saying to give us all of these things, but it sure would have made a difference to us if Carnival at least tried to offer us something. We did pay a premium fare to go to Bermuda, and if you're not going to take us there, why should they profit from it? They're were a lot of unhappy and complaining people on board (justified of course), so they could have fixed it from the start of the trip. I called Carnival after we got back, and all they said was that it wasn't their fault about the weather. I completely understand about the weather, and if you have to make itinery changes, fine. But, I paid for a "Special Voyage" at a premium price, so do the right thing and reimburse me the difference you would have charged me if we were suppose to go to Key West. The lady that I spoke with tried to take credit for Carnival reimbursing the difference in the port taxes. That's not Carnival's money in the first place, and yes Carnival had to do it. Now the second thing that upsets me. Who in their right mind heads into a hurricane? I did not feel safe, especially at 3am. The seas were way too rough and I think it was completely wrong of Carnival to make this attempt. Another route or a cancellation would have been better. It was absolutely horrible. Barf bags taped to the elevators, people falling down the stairs, people throwing up near the dining rooms. My youngest daughter wouldn't take the elevators because they smelled so bad. You had to hang onto the railing when you showered or took the stairs. Just walking from Port to Starboard felt like climbing a steep hill and then running down it. Sleeping the first night was really difficult because of all the motion and being tossed around. All I could think about at 3am was what an ass-nine decision to go into Irene (sorry, the 'outskirt of Irene'). There were a couple of women that had bandages on their heads and they looked pretty banged up. I witnessed one lady falling down the stairs. Another gentleman was really bruised too. The second day was still too windy/rocky for the kids to use the water slides. And as the large waves subsided to only being 12 feet high, is when our Captain decided to make an announcement. Wouldn't it have been nice to hear from him so he could tell us what to expect and how long to expect it before? How about kindly explaining why our route to Bermuda would no longer be doable? And since Bermuda is known for it's famous beaches, how about picking a port with some nice beaches? Again, I am not blaming Carnival because of the weather. They could have just made the experience a better one. We had no idea boarding the ship about how bad it was going to get. If passengers were told before boarding, and given the option to cancel and be reimbursed, I'm sure many would have done so. We would have. Carnival has lost our future business. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was our anniversary and it was going to Bermuda. We have been to Bermuda twice before and loved it. We had friends going with us who had never been there. We were supposed to go to Princess Cay first then Bermuda. We were supposed to spend a day and a half in Bermuda. Because Princess Cay sustained damage due to the hurricane, we were sent to Nassau. For some reason it too longer to get to Bermuda from Nassau than it would have from Princess Cay. Our time in Bermuda was cut short by a third. We didn't arrive in Bermuda till after noon and by the time we docked and approved by customs, it was well after one oclock before we could go ashore. We took the ferry to Hamilton arrived about 3:30. We wanted to take a bus to St. George, which would take about 45 minutes. The last ferry from St. George to the Dock Yard was 4:30pm. Most of the shops and sites close about 5:30/6:00pm. The next day we had to be back on the ship by 11:30am. Not time to really see the island. Very disappointed about the change in schedule and no reimbursement from Carnival. Princess Cay is in the Bahamas as is Nassau and according to the map a little lower. I don't understand why it took longer to get from Nassau to Bermuda than it would have from Princess Cay to Bermuda. Our friends were also extremely disappointed. The entertainment on the ship was great and the ship had the best cruise director we've ever had a cruise. I must say the food was so much better than what we had on the Esctacy in June. Desserts were wonderful, Wait staff very friendly and called us by name. Cabin was fine, plenty of closet space, Carnival is not very stringent on hand washing as other ships such as Norwegian. The buffet dining room needs some reconfiguration. The hanging lights don't line up with the tables. A lot of people bumping their heads including us. I gave the overall rating a poor because the main reason we went on this cruise was to go with our friends to see Bermuda. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the 3 consecutive days in port in Bermuda, (Didn't happen) We received an email right before we sailed (after full payment had been made) that we would be going out to sea one night verses being in port the whole time. After that they shorten our time in port 2 more times, after so many itinerary changes it left us with very little time to explore. We were never given an explanation to why all the changes. We were very disappointed in Carnival. If we had been informed of this PRIOR to final payment we would not have taken this cruise. Now on a positive note, our room steward Ibara was fantastic! Our dining crew (late) Carlos, and guys were great! Another note, I wish there were other activities on sea days, trivia is ok but it would be nice to have other options. Bermuda (what we saw of it) is a beautiful place and we hope to go there again someday but it won't be with Carnival. Read Less

This was my fifth Carnival cruise. I chose this cruise for the 3 days in port in Bermuda, which was the only port and a bucket list destination for me. We booked one year in advance. About 2 months before departure, Carnival started sending out "change of itinerary" messages. I received 6 change notices, the last one as we were departing for the port. The final result was that we ended up with about one and a half total days in Bermuda, not three. No explanation for the change was given, and no compensation was offered except for a refund of some port fees that we were owed, obviously because we were not in port. Instead, we were out sailing around in a circle to the east of Bermuda. Other than this major disappointment, the cruise was the typical Carnival experience. The food and service was O K, not great. One comedian was very funny, the other one not so much. The cruise director Deon was wonderful. The highlight of the whole cruise, other than the wonderful destination, was the ease and speed of getting on and off of the ship. Bermuda is by far the most beautiful port I've cruised to. There are many stunning beaches, lovely homes, attractions like the Crystal Caves and the Aquarium and Zoo, shopping in Hamilton, and historical attractions like forts, lighthouses, and St. George which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Bermuda has inexpensive and efficient public transportation, by bus and ferry, to all parts of the island. Everything was clean and well-run. Everyone we talked with was helpful and polite, and Bermudians are so willing to guide you and tell you all about their wonderful island. They are obviously very proud of this exceptional place and rightfully so. I am already planning to return to Bermuda, this time on an airplane. I never expected to have the port time shortened (except in the event of a hurricane), and that event has made me re-evaluate the whole cruise experience. All of the people I spoke with on the ship were disappointed that our time was cut short. We all paid for 3 days in Bermuda as offered by Carnival, and that is not what we got. Never been there before and the ship was suppose to be docked for 3 days ,. carnival estascy , cabin was noise from engines , away from couples we were traveling with ,not what we had ask for . Dining was also not what we requested due to many of party needing to have early dining we had to have it changed to anytime dining , food was most of the time prepared very good ,a few times orders were wrong or cold . Entertaiment was very good the shows are very good in the theater , activities were not as many this time as have been on other ships , i applaud the celebration for veteran days that the estascy did i am a veteran and i enjoyed it !!! Service did their best to make everyone feel at ease on a rocking ship due to rough seas and weather.the port of bermuda we had to leave a day early . For fear of wind . Bermuda was a little boring . Really feel very disappointed this cruise .but we will be cruising again!!!!!! Read Less

Our family consisting of two grandparents, three adult parents, and three grand kids cruised July 21st to July 26th on a five day trip to the Bahamas on the Carnival Fantasy. Overall, it was an average cruise with some advantages and some drawbacks. Embarkation: We live in N.C. so Charleston is close and easy to get to. However, the Port of Charleston needs much improvement. Only one ship from one line visits the port and there has not been a large investment in infrastructure. It seemed unorganized and took more time that we were used to just to deposit our bags, park our cars, and get into the terminal. Debarkation on the other hand was efficient and went smoothly. The facilities just are not there YET, but I suspect things will improve as time goes on and if more ships/lines service the port. The Ship: The Fantasy is old but has been redone several times. Its biggest problem is its size and the number of PAX it puts on board. It is small and thus seemed very crowded especially at the pool and in the lido restaurant facilities. There were often long lines and insufficient tables/chairs. There is but one pool and the deck areas have insufficient seating. As a result, we saw folks quibbling over deck chairs. We saw two hot tubes which were always filled to the brim and had small children splashing about. They were definitely not adult friendly. There were so many people wanting to use the pool that one had to wait for a spot to open just to dangle your legs in the water. The biggest attraction for a family with children is the water park, a nice improvement, but if one wanted to watch the kids, there was no shade in the area so take the heavy duty sun screen. State rooms: Very clean, but not up to par with the newer ships. There was not even a small refrigerator in the room. When we arrived, the cabin had neither hair dryer nor hand soap, but this shortcoming was quickly fixed. Unfortunately, we were one deck under the galley and late at night there was a considerable amount of noise plus at times there were strong food odors that entered our cabin via the A/C system. The halls were quite noise too. In fact, his was the noisiest ship I have been on in eleven cruises. The noise usually continued on our deck until about 1 AM. Attendants: Outstanding. Our steward on the Empress Deck, Mr. Mustika, went overboard in trying to please us and our table waiters were excellent. Everyone on the crew tried their best to make the cruise pleasant. They are hard working people who will do what they can to please you. Food: The evening meals were great, but the daytime food left much to be desired. There as a deli which served a limited selection and often the sandwiches were burned. The wok area had long lines, just as the hamburger and hotdog stand did. They were not worth writing home about. The lido deck buffet was limited and often closed. One thing I did like was the days at sea when the restaurants would open with a brunch which went from 9 AM to about 1:30 PM. It was geared mostly to breakfast, but the times were very convenient and the food was good. On the other hand, the lido deck breakfasts were only so-so. Entertainment: All too often we were forced to view the production shows at 10 PM which is late for some and other nights there were no shows at all. There were a variety of other endeavors, but no substitute for the theater show. We had two comedian presentations (family friendly) and two (adult) shows during the cruise. Overall: If you live in the Southeast and want a convenient port, Charleston is it. It is an older and smaller ship which tries to do a good job. The food during the day needs improvement and you will find it crowded. Would I do it again? Probably if there was not another ship doing the same thing. This was the 3rd Cruise for my wife & I. The 2 prior to this were on the Carnival Glory & this time the Carnival Fantasy. We had sailed with family & friends on our prior two cruises but this time it was just the wife & I. We left out of the Charleston SC Port & it was great! Embarkation & Debarkation were great! Quick & Smooth! The Fantasy is a smaller ship, but we liked it because you didn't have to walk as much & you didn't seem to have to go through a maze to get where you wanted to go. The ship also seemed well maintained. Nice & clean. The food was mediocre. Not Great by any stretch of the imagination. The food in the Buffet Line on the Lido Deck was unrecognizable. Thanks goodness they had it labeled or we would have had no idea what we were eating. The grill & pizza stations were always open & it was what you would expect. Not good not bad. In the Main Dining Room the food was a little better but nothing spectacular. Our Cabin Steward aggravated us to death! My wife & I are both late sleepers. If we happened to be in the room when the Steward wanted to clean, he would come back every 5 minutes until we left! This was supposed to be our vacation, but he wanted to make sure he got his job done whether we got to rest or not! Now, my main complaint with this Ship is the smell! On every floor, except for the Lido Deck & the Main Dining Room, it smelled like we were floating in open sewage. The smell was unreal! The water in the faucet taste awful therefore the ice was the same way, awful!! The water in the toilet was a brown color! When passengers started complaining about the smell, we were told the Ship had hit a Dolphin but could not explain why the smell was present during the whole trip! This boat definitely has some filtration problems & for that reason, I WILL NOT cruise on the Fantasy again! In fact, I'm looking at a different Cruise Line for our next trip! Our only Port, was Bermuda! Absolutely breath-taking! It is a must see if you like to travel like my wife & I do! All in all, had it not been for Bermuda we would have asked for a refund, probably would not have gotten it but we would have tried. If you have a future cruise booked on the Carnival Fantasy, I would definitely change! Read Less

Just returned from Bermuda on Carnival Fantasy.....Not the best experience I have ever had on a Carnival Fun Ship and I have had 17. If you absolutely have to sail out of Charleston then I guess it will do.....If you have never sailed on Carnival on the newer, nicer ships, I guess it will do........If you know the service that Carnival provides on other ships & if you know the usual condition of the ships and the "You are important to us" attitude on most of the other ships you will probably be disappointed on this ship. Trust me, make the drive to (at least) Jacksonville and Enjoy what Carnival REALLY has to offer! The Food was merely "OK" compared to other Carnival Ships. The Crew Members were "OK" compared to other Carnival Ships. If you want to Smell "Sewer Gas Smell" for your entire trip, This is the ship for YOU! If you enjoy waiting for an HOUR and a HALF for your main course at dinner, This is the Ship for You! If you like Balcony rooms DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A SUITE ON THIS SHIP. I paid the extra for a special time and to get a suite and got nothing more than a min category balcony room on any other ship but yet paid for a suite...The Ship is in BAD need of repair. Don't waste your money on a suite....Balcony is SO SMALL you cannot sit in the chair and fit your legs between the chair and the rail. You have to turn your chair sideways to sit. We stacked ours to one side and at least 3 people could stand comfortably at the rail and look out. 4 could fit but BARELAY. The AC did not work properly and they checked it twice but said there was nothing they could do....We are paying for a suite and had to have an electric fan to keep from sweating in bed???? .... PLEASE ....If they paid $34 Mil to refurb this ship they forgot their change! Don't get me wrong I LOVE Carnival....I am a "Platinum" member working toward my "Milestone". but this ship was a real disappointment. I just sailed on the Fascination in July (which is a sister ship to the Fantasy) and the condition of the ship...the crew....the food...far surpass the Fantasy. We even had a crew member tell my daughter is law that she was lying about an issue that she was inquiring about. When I went and "called him out on it" he backed down and tried to be pleasant. However this same crew member handled me to purchase a certificate for a future cruise. This morning when we got up to leave the ship......You guessed it....NO CERTIFICATE.... The offer was only good while on the ship to get free on board credit with the purchase of this certificate. I guess he got the last laugh...Well...at least until I get Guest Services on the phone tomorrow. I have still not found out from my credit card company if he billed it but I should know that by tomorrow also. Anyway Like I said I love Carnival and I am not trying to "BASH" Carnival here. Just The Fantasy.....Do yourself a favor....If you live in Charleston (As I do) Drive to Jacksonville....You will be much happier. I plan on cruising again in February to take my grandson...You can bet I will make the drive to Jax or beyond..... Read Less

This is my fourth cruise on this lady, Carnival Ecstasy, she is in good shape for an old gal! EMBARKMENT: My wife and I drove down from North Carolina and utilized the new cruise port parking arrangement. We used to park in an old warehouse and take buses after you dropped off the luggage at the parking lot. Now you drive in, they take your luggage and your park in the open air parking lot and take the shuttle to the cruise terminal. It appeared to be a little faster. The bottleneck at the terminal remained the same, long lines that are slow. You do get onto the ship in about an hour or so. ON BOARD: Your room key is now at your cabin's mail slot next to the cabin door, so when you get on board if you want a drink you have to show your boarding pass and give your cabin/stateroom number, the new system is a little faster, but not much. You head to the buffet on deck 10 and have the "standard" buffet food, good but not great. You get into your cabin by 1:30pm, you room key card and onboard charge card is in the mail slot next to the cabin door. INTERIOR: Rivera (4th deck) R63 is an interior cabin, with a queen bed, two twins pushed together. as my wife and I are CPAPer's we had the stateroom steward, Wayan, split the beds for us. He provided excellent service through out our cruise. Standard interior cabin, a little dated but functional. ENTERTAINMENT: On the ship, the entertainment is by cruise staff, all production shows, a couple were good, the cruise director, Deon, is a high energy and very personable. The Punchliner Comedy Club had a very good comedian, Jody White, we only saw her PG show and it was an entertaining 45 minutes. COST of DRINKS: They are getting expensive $6.50 for bottled beer and $9 and up for cocktails, similar to RCCL. PORTS OF CALL: My wife had not been to Bermuda in about 25 years, back in "those days" we did the snorkeling, glass bottom boat, the pink sand beaches and explored the island, now we sort of just walk around the port area. I will comment later about Bermuda it is a beautiful island to visit. MAIN DINING ROOM: We were "your time dining" from 5:45 pm to 9:30 pm, and there are long lines to get into the restaurant and your are given the buzzer that goes off when your table is ready, no matter what time we went, early or about 7:30 pm, there was about a half hour wait time. We dining in the Wind Star main dining room and fortunately got the same section at our request, with the team head waiter Iman and the team waiter Sentana, with a third rotating team assistant waiter at tables 138 to 146. They provided excellent service throughout the cruise. THE MENU: Standard fare, we had prime rib, two nights, beef tenderloin one night, and the menu varied on the beef and pork, with spare ribs, beef short ribs, along with the pasta, vegetarian, and seafood selection. There are two formal nights on the seven day cruise in which there are table cloths on the tables. The appetizers are standard, and they only have escargot (my favorite) one night of the cruise. Overall, the food was very good but not great. Now the "salt shakers" in the main dining room are the little cylinder ceramic shakers with three little holes onto and THEY ALWAYS CLOG!!! Five of the seven nights we had to have our waiter bring us salt shakers that were not clogged. Carnival get new salt shakers! If that was my main complaint, what am I complaining about. MEET and MINGLE gathering: I would have to rate it a poor compared to the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. There were about 25 Cruise Critic M and M folks, and they coffee, juice, water and danish. On RCCL's meet and mingle, they had bottles of wine and champagne, hats, a backpack and the coveted pens and markers. THE CASINO: My wife and I were here on the Carnival Players Club "bounce back" casino offer, it you gamble "enough", and I do, you get a offer of an interior cabin for $100 per person, plus port charges and on board credit of $100 each, so essentially, its a "free cruise" excluding the port charges and taxes. Unfortunately the casino is small, and as I play three card poker (only two tables) and WPT heads up hold 'em (only one) I had limited table time as this cruise was also a Carnival players club "Premier" players club cruise and people were sitting at the table to play before the casino opened. There was a mix of old and new slot machines, mostly older vintage, and I did not hear of any really big slot machine wins announced. DEBARKMENT: Under an hour we went from the gathering place, Sapphire Lounge to pick up our luggage, through customs onto the shuttle bus and to our car in under one hour. Amazingly fast. OVERALL IMPRESSION: It was a nice cruise on an older ship, with standard accommodations, very good but not great food in the MDR that provided excellent service,that visited the beautiful island of Bermuda. Check in was a snap, within 15 minutes of entering terminal I was walking on the ship. We were quite early so rooms weren't ready, we headed up to the lunch buffet and after lunch rooms were ready. I was guiding a group of 28, everyone was pleased with their rooms specifically the size and cleanliness. What was a shock and disappointment was that our room stewards informed us that they would only service our room once a day. I figured it was a cost cutting measure but am greatly disappointed in the service. Dining room service and quality of food were more than adequate but each year it seems Carnival cuts more services or "nickels and dimes" more and more. For instance for a good steak there is a $20 surcharge. The quality of drinks at the bars were excellent, prices higher than average but not overly high. The evening entertainment was varied, lots of options and excellent. Because we were at the dock in Bermuda for 3 days we opted out to contact directly suppliers for our shore excursions. We had a half day tour of the island and a half day sail on a private yacht (Sail Bermuda, Cpt. Caleb--I highly recommend him). The prices were much less than what Carnival offered and there was absolutely no danger of missing the ship. Debarkation went smooth as well. Carnival seems to have coming on and leaving well planned and executed. I remain disappointed in the "Generate Revenue 24/7" philosophy of Carnival. Constantly we were bombarded with offers to buy products and services. Cruising is certainly not as upscale with Carnival as with the other big box lines I've cruised with. If you are looking for a low cost, no frills cruise with a main goal of value I can highly recommend Carnival. Bermuda is spectacular, if you haven't visited there make it your next trip. Read Less

This was the most relaxing cruise I have had. There was alot of older folks on this cruise - some even on walkers and canes. Hardly any children - 65 total. We were able to get on the ship within 30 minutes of driving into the terminal parking lot. Bus driver was very friendly and cheerful. The ramp used to enter the ship was a hike - especially for the older folks. We saw several older people stop for a break. One couple had trouble because they carried on luggage. My husband offerred to carry it the rest of the way - they were very grateful. Carnival should have an employee on the ramp for situations like this. Food: All our meals were very good - whether we went to the buffet or dining room. Our dining wait staff was a little slower but very nice and apologetic - I think they were new. They also didn't get the orders right - but always corrected it immediately. If you get a chance, try out the cakes in the coffee area (not far from the casino) - the charge is under 3.00, but the portions were huge and both cheese cake and chocolate cake were incredible. Entertainment: The Beatles show was great - enjoyed the film before the show - so get there early. I heard the Cowboy comedian was great too. Casino was disappointing - everyone in our group lost a good deal of money - not making that mistake again. Combined with our travel agent foul up, we had bad rooms (location) which we paid good money for and the losses in the casino, we are rethinking a cruise for next year. Bermuda: Disappointed with 1 day in Bermuda (coming in on Saturday at 4 and leaving Sunday at 4). We left the ship at 4 and took a bus to Hamilton - food was great at Hog Penny - was the best fish and chips and large portion too. Reasonable prices. Went to several bars and headed back - next day we went to Horse Shoe Bay - its a public beach but pay for food and chairs - they have bathrooms and showers. One problem - walking down to the beach was a breeze but the hike back up was harder - you can pay $2 to be driven back up. This was a quick trip - left ship at 9 to have enough time and get back to the Dockyard by 1:30 so we could fit in a little shopping - the shops there were ok for the normal tourist stuff. I think another day in Bermuda would have been perfect - 4 days at sea is too much - but if you want to wind down and relax - it will force you to do that! Read Less

On 15 September I was on the Carnival Fantasy to Bermuda. They don't call these the "Fun Ships" without good reason and thus the line's reputation for a mandatory good time is merited. The Fantasy is the oldest ship in the fleet being over 20 years old, however she doesn't look the part, largely from a 2008 refurbishment. There are many things to appreciate about this ship. *** Activities are plentiful day and night. The day provides almost endless trivia and other games. The party goes into the early morning hours. ***The super slide in the Carnival Waterworks is one of my favorite slides anywhere...land or sea. *** Some people live to eat, while I tend to eat to live, so of course I found the food more than meets my needs. Carnival's new main dining room menus are two sided....one is traditional favorites which are every night and the other half being nightly specials. Chocolate Melted Cake is available every night !! *** Food always seems to be available on the Lido deck. *** The two big bang production shows provide energy and sizzle. The first one is "Nightclub Express" with a talking sofa which promotes music of varying genres. The Second show is "Ticket To Ride" and is understandably a Beatles tribute. *** The staff, as always seem to truly enjoy their jobs and I enjoyed their camaraderie. *** Both embarkation and debarkation were simple and relativly quick under somewhat odd restrictions due to being in a historic district. While the Fantasy worked, Carnival's Bermuda itinerary just didn't function so well. The biggest problem with the Charleston to Bermuda itinerary was it allots one day in port, which is hardly worth the two days at sea effort. Unfortunately that one day in Bermuda was a Sunday when much of the island shuts down. On Saturday evening, I enjoyed a Carnival excursion on a glass bottomed boat. For Sunday I did the ship sponsored island tour which was rush, rush, and rush ! While we visited the Gibbs lighthouse, there wasn't sufficient time to actually climb up. While we stopped for a photo at a beach, there was not enough time to enjoy that beach. We were allotted 15 minutes in Saint George, which ironically enough was sufficient since the town was largely closed down for Sunday. The tour stopped in Hamilton for about 30 minutes. There is a majestic cathedral there of which I took some photos, and then got back on the van. If one wishes to cruise to Bermuda I highly recommend at least 2 days in port, preferably *not* on a Sunday. Hamilton seems to be a better of call than the Dockyards where we docked. While the dockyards are picturesque; they appear to still be developmental stage. It would be advisable for Carnival to make Charleston-Bermuda into a 7 day cruise ( not 6) where one gets two full days in port. Pre-cruise I spent an extra day in Charleston where I stayed on Meeting Street and walked to historic sites. I can highly recommend that future cruisers absorb this great historical city as part of their vacation. Between the ghost tours and the authentic Low-Country cuisine, I found Charleston to much more fulfilling that Bermuda. In summary, I can highly recommend the Carnival Fantasy and Charleston, while we needed more time in Bermuda. Read Less

Though I had visited Bermuda some 25 years ago, my husband had never been there, and we were looking forward to this cruise. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irene interfered, and we ended up in Key West and Cozumel instead. Now, we've been to both these ports several times and were not happy to be routed there. Moreover, rather than driving north to Charleston for three hours, we could have driven south for the same amount of time, traveled out of Cape Canaveral and visited more ports for less money than this cruise cost! However, we wanted to make the best of an unfortunate situation so we determined that we would enjoy the trip. Because we were traveling with friends who were restricted from any strenuous activity (one was in a wheelchair), we opted for tours in both places. These were rather expensive tours for what we received as in both places we were forced to walk MANY blocks to board tour vehicles and to subsequently return to the ship. In Cozumel, the day was rainy and the so-called tour, except for a small museum, actually consisted of stops at small shops and a brief unsavory shopping area in town. This "tour" cost $59 each. One funny thing: when we stopped in town, vendors came out of shops on the street to entice us into their shops. One actually said to us, "I've got the same junk as everyone else here, but mine doesn't cost as much!" In Key West, the transportation was wooden trams with seats too narrow and short to accommodate two people comfortably. This took place in blazing heat with no opportunity to obtain cold drinks. The trek back to the ship was miserable. Had we actually have gotten to Bermuda, we fully understood that stores closed only an hour after we were to arrive on Saturday and were not open on Sunday. As well, transportation throughout the island was limited. Though we expected these inconveniences (I don't shop in ports, anyway), we wondered why Carnival would schedule such a cruise, since many people thoroughly enjoy shopping. Nevertheless, we would probably try it again,since cruising on another line to Bermuda from a port farther north would entail our having to fly to the port. As far as the ship itself was concerned, our cabin was very nice and clean and our cabin steward was excellent. Yes, we did rock and roll the first night out and helf the next day, but we survived it nicely. We did the "dine around" thing, but ended up at the same table area in the Celebration Dining Room each night. Our head waiter, a young lady, was wonderful. I can't remember her name but it was the tables 148 and 149 area. The food was fine as we are not picky eaters. Some critics have stated that the personnel on this ship are not friendly. We definitely found that was not the case. Even the officers smiled and nodded when we spoke to them. Read Less

This was a below average cruise. We arrived in Bermuda at 4:00 on Saturday, and the ship did not provide a tender to Hamilton. We had to pay to take a public ferry, only to find that the shops close at 5:00 for the weekend. Given only 24 hours in Bermuda, there was not enough time to do any more than one activity or excursion. The food was below average. The best item for dessert was the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. The steaks we ordered were cooked incorrectly every single night of our cruise. The last night we ordered the Chateaubriand, and it was leathery, instead of tender. There was a lack of entertainment and shows. There was not a so- called "Midnight Buffet", besides the Mexican buffet at 11:30 one night. The nightlife was dull, aside from one or two nights. The service on the ship was wonderful. Our cabin steward was very friendly and attentive. We had the Anytime Dining and had different waiters every night, which we did not like. But most of the waiters we had were very helpful and the service was very good. We had a Outside Cabin with a porthole. The cabins weren't a bad size for a cruise, but had very limited storage space. It seemed as though the bunk beds were an addition when they upgraded this ship, as the Murphy bed stuck out of the wall about a foot and a half right above one of the beds. At least once a day you would hit your head on the corner of it getting in and out of bed. There was only one pool on the ship, and you were lucky if you could find a deck chair anywhere on a Day at Sea. Read Less

Why go to a port when everything is closed. Sat 5:00 the Sun 3:00-the boat could get there at lunch on Sat would help. It would appear as if the boat is not in port you can spend more money. The TV was terrible! The movie of the day was not published. When you found it the picture was so poor could not watch. Remember you are on that boat for over 100 hours. Food was ok but not in same class as the other trips Avoid the cab with the red bumper. We paid $240 for 4 hrs to see the island. I think our driver hated everything about America. I wanted to come back to the boat after about an hour. I heard all I wanted about America and it low wages, gun lover, high crime and on and on. Avoid that van with red bumper. All and all this was a great trip but would carry extra books and stay in Charleston an extra day great people. Getting on and off was the very best ever. This was our third cruise with Carnival. Embarkation was very efficient considering that Charleston apparently is not wild about cruise terminals. But the terminal staff did the best they could given the circumstances. Early drop off of luggage was great, after we dropped off our bags we were able to drive down to Battery Park and enjoy the scenery. Once on board, we made our way to the Lido deck for lunch and drinks. Our rooms were ready by 1:30 and the luggage arrived shortly thereafter. Our room was an OV which at best was just okay, a little tight and we have been in worse. Our room steward did his best to keep up with everything, but as on other cruises, it seems that they are cutting back and the staff that is left has to carry the extra load. It's the economy, stupid! We arrived in Bermuda on Saturday at 4:00. Debarking was a nightmare. Two days at sea and everyone wanted to get to firm land. When we finally made it outside, it was raining and we could not get through the crowd so we decided to return to the ship and get dry and head out for a few drinks. Others who braved the rain were very upset as the stores were either closed or about to close. So we all figured that the next day, Sunday, would be the best day for shopping. What a joke. Apparently, Bermuda does not need those stinkin' American dollars as the town was for the most part, closed down. We were in port at Kings Wharf and many took the ferry to Hamilton assuming that the capital would have open for business, but alas, not so. Plenty of grumbling and Carnival will be hearing from many cruisers in this regard. My suggestion would be to cut out the week-end cruise to Bermuda. Debarking was excellent! It was very organized and as we had opt to take out luggage with us, we were off the ship, in our car and on the road by 7:30 a.m. Great job on this, Carnival. We know that it is not Carnival's fault re Bermuda's thumbing their nose at American dollars, but I really feel that they should cancel any cruises to Bermuda on a week-end. Read Less

I choose Carnival Sunshine because we were able to depart from Charleston, SC. where I live! It was my first cruise and loved it! We cruised to Bermuda and Princess Cays from September 28-October 5th! Everyone was so nice and friendly! Our Steward LD (for short) kept us comfortable the whole time! Robert from Romania (Head Server) was awesome! One can tell he thoroughly enjoyed his job! He kept us entertained and was on the ball with his service! I would rate his service an 11!!!! The shows, food, Lido Deck, music, service, people and everything was wonderful! We also enjoyed the buffet.the ice cream and pizza! The the crew was friendly and accommodated us with all our needs. Shopping on the ship was awesome, I found some good deals for myself and family. I will do it all over again very soon!! Thank you very much Carnival Sunshine!! See you soon! Read Less

My wife's birthday was on the 12 of September. Bermuda was her first choice and Charleston was an easy commute from our home in NC. It was to be my birthday present to her. Once on board we were met by the "happiest and friendliest" crew compared to all our previous 13 plus cruises. While the Sunshine did show some "bumps and bruises" showing her age; the crew definitely made up for it. We all thought their most positive attitude stemmed from the top: Captain Lorenzo. To quote a familiar military phrase, " he leads from the front." His pleasing personality was always on display. Most significantly to this writer was the effort he and "Freddie," the head of Guest Services went to on my wife special day : having her picture taken with the Captain, Champagne at the dining table, special birthday cake, singing Happy Birthday by the Matte D's and personal appearance by the Captain and Freddie to wish her a Happy Birthday. My wife's reaction is hard to put into words but she did say at the time, "this will be remembered as the most special birthday and one I will remember the rest of my life." I think besides my wife's misty reaction - all in attendence also got a little moist around the eyes. The rest of the cruise was a very happy experience with the ever present greeting from every crew person, "Good morning or Day" with those broad smiles. To sum up this review, "we just finished a cruise with the happiest crew in the Carnival fleet." Read Less
