I choose Carnival Sunshine because we were able to depart from Charleston, SC. where I live! It was my first cruise and loved it! We cruised to Bermuda and Princess Cays from September 28-October 5th! Everyone was so nice and friendly! Our Steward LD (for short) kept us comfortable the whole time! Robert from Romania (Head Server) was awesome! One can tell he thoroughly enjoyed his job! He kept us entertained and was on the ball with his service! I would rate his service an 11!!!! The shows, food, Lido Deck, music, service, people and everything was wonderful! We also enjoyed the buffet.the ice cream and pizza! The the crew was friendly and accommodated us with all our needs. Shopping on the ship was awesome, I found some good deals for myself and family. I will do it all over again very soon!! Thank you very much Carnival Sunshine!! See you soon! Read Less

My wife's birthday was on the 12 of September. Bermuda was her first choice and Charleston was an easy commute from our home in NC. It was to be my birthday present to her. Once on board we were met by the "happiest and friendliest" crew compared to all our previous 13 plus cruises. While the Sunshine did show some "bumps and bruises" showing her age; the crew definitely made up for it. We all thought their most positive attitude stemmed from the top: Captain Lorenzo. To quote a familiar military phrase, " he leads from the front." His pleasing personality was always on display. Most significantly to this writer was the effort he and "Freddie," the head of Guest Services went to on my wife special day : having her picture taken with the Captain, Champagne at the dining table, special birthday cake, singing Happy Birthday by the Matte D's and personal appearance by the Captain and Freddie to wish her a Happy Birthday. My wife's reaction is hard to put into words but she did say at the time, "this will be remembered as the most special birthday and one I will remember the rest of my life." I think besides my wife's misty reaction - all in attendence also got a little moist around the eyes. The rest of the cruise was a very happy experience with the ever present greeting from every crew person, "Good morning or Day" with those broad smiles. To sum up this review, "we just finished a cruise with the happiest crew in the Carnival fleet." Read Less

This was our first cruise ever so we choose a 7day to Nassau Bahamas and a overnight in Bermuda. I only saw my 16y old at breakfast and Dinner plus the 2 shore excursions he made a bunch of friends his age doing their entertainment and activities all over the ship ( I highly recommend taking the "Restless Native Catamaran " shore excursions in Bermuda) I have to give a Shout Out to these's people they made our experience very memorable " James, Thai , Andy, Adam, Christian, with the games like Clue, Guess Who, trivia's ect and we must not forget the Comedians " Cowboy, Kim Harris, Al Cats " . Our first dinner was at the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse , the rest of the Dinners we eat a the" Sunrise Dinner " we got so spoiled , Henry & ----- table number 517 knew our names and had our drinks , they worked so hard for us I have to say "Thank You " I give them a 10 out of 10 thumbs up.. We did not want to leave the Sunshine ship it only felt like 3 days next time I'll be taking 10 to 14 days ... Definitely will go again !! The only thing that need to be more smoother is when we got to the port in Bermuda getting Off the ship was so crowded everyone wanted off at the same time , we had an excursion at a certain time but for some reason you let the people who did NOT have excursions go at the same time I thought the Excursions had priority off the ship first ? I love Carnival, I thought the good was delicious, the staff was very friendly, ship was clean, it was a wonderful vacation. This was my 15th cruise so I do know what I am talking about. The captain is a sweetheart, the comedy shows was hilarious. I went to all of the comedy shows. Guys burgers was so delicious i could eat them every day. The brunch at sea was my favorite meal. The filet mignon for breakfast was always cooked to perfection. The prime rib at dinner was yum. Our cabin guy was very good at his job. I liked how Carnival allowed us to buy a liter of crown royal for our room. We will be going back next month and taking our five grandchildren with us.they do enjoy cruising and they enjoy camp ocean and the green eggs and ham breakfast. Carnival keep up the good work. The cruise was great, the ship was great. Bermuda was a great place, everything was a little expensive. The ship was originally supposed to be in port 3 nights, but for some reason we had to leave one day at 3 and return to port the next morning at 930, so that really took away one of your nights in Bermuda. The food and dinning room service was great. Room service was good, Guys Burgers have the best hamburger any where. The casino was good, won some money & the casino staff was so nice This was a Primary Cruise and the gifts were really nice. The shows were good and had a great people. Deon the cruise director was one of the funnest people on the whole ship. It was always nice to hear his announcements everyday. The military show on the ship was one of the best I have attended on all my Carnival cruises. Read Less

We have used Carnival before and this was our second time on this particular ship. It is an older ship, but is kept very clean, what it lacks in glamour, the staff make up for in a positive attitude! First and foremost- our room stewards, Dedi & Sasha were excellent! They gave us extra towels, kept ice in our rooms and always stopped to socialize and ensure that our needs were met! Thanks so much guys! Cruise director, Deon was wonderful! We really enjoyed the music trivia nights with him and Double D. Also, a big thank you to Dan & Steffan for hosting the comedy shows and being so friendly! Johnny Milwater, Cee Jay Jones, Thomas Brown and Jodi White put on great comedy shows and we had lots of laughs! A special thanks to LexAppeal for your nightly performances and the rock show - we thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to all of you! Thanks to Bandit and the burger guys, we love Guy's burgers! The pixel staff was wonderful as well! Reymond and Made were very attentive on the smoking deck as well, thanks guys for keeping everything cleaned up. We would like to send a special thanks to all of the dining and housekeeping staff on the Lido deck. The only negative thing about the cruise was the long wait for the dining room on cruise formal night. It took 45 minutes to get in the dining room and another 45 minutes to get our appetizer. That was very disappointing, but the good was good! Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely do it again! Thanks to everyone that made the trip wonderful, we met some wonderful people and thoroughly enjoyed our 5th Carnival Cruise. Read Less

Took the Ecstasy for a 6 day to Bermuda. We have been on the Ecstasy before. The crew was great and they took care of any issues very easily. Food was good and everything was clean. Entertainment was top notch. This is an old ship and all the public areas are above the rooms. The whole cruise was great, weather was so so but carnival didnt make the weather. trouble didnt come till the very last day. Captain warned us that we would be in 4 hours late due to the heavy seas and strong head wind. but over night i got a letter saying i needed to go to a deck 8 lounge to meet with customs. It stated i would owe the customs money. I only bought 2 cartons of cigarettes even though the guy tried hard to sell me 4 cartons. you are only allowed one carton per passenger and since it was only me and my wife that makes 2 my limit. I also bought her some jewelry at the fun shops that was over 700 dollars but then again for two people it is 1600 total. I had maybe 50 dollars in trinkets from the port so i was way under on customs. BUT Carnival turned my name in as oweing duty as if i was travelling alone. Mean while my daughter got the same type of letter becausse she spent 1300 at the fun shops. So 1030 i get in line as the ship docks. and hour later there was no one yet. one guy showed to do this ( this isnt carnivals fault) but me standing in line was. Finally i was next and inside 45 seconds the customs officer after looking at my statement stamps me approved and sends me on my way. BTW my daughter had the exact same experience. Anyhow now i had to get in line to leave and we were in port nearly an hour by this time. Lesson learnt was dont spend more on board than you can individually bring ashore duty free, it doesnt matter if there are 2, 3 or 4 of you in your party. There were a lot of people in that line and i was close to the front.I feel for those at the end. If carnival selected with a bit more intelligence it wouldnt have been an issue at all. The food was overall really good. I love the ribs, and the service this time was impecable. From sit down to stand up only an hour, usually it is more like 90 to 120 minutes. We did have 3 sea days so brunch was something i love on carnival and it was as usual delicious. The band Lexappeal was awesome and was even included one night in the stage show. The male and female singers were great. The other performers were also very good and each had a very different genre and in its own right appealing. The ship doesnt have a big screen but I dont really watch movies often. The port was ok. Glad i went , probably wont return. Things seems a bit more pricey than normal. I took a shore excursion to see the whole of the island and they did that for sure. I think if I did return i would take the ferry over to hamilton for the shopping. Just my 2 cents. Let me finish on a totally up note. The crew was fantastic. obviously the management is doing a bang up job. Oh and I am including a pic of my towel animal..... Read Less

As residents of downtown Charleston, we couldn't resist the ease of just jumping on a cruise for our anniversary, and had always wanted to visit Bermuda. Our cabin was R1, a porthole room. It was a nice room, and there's a huge window seat. The only problem was that we were near one of the crew access points, and it could get a little loud sometimes with them coming and going. However, the crew was always friendly and very helpful. On our one previous cruise, we did not have any days at sea. We enjoyed the destination so much that we never really had time to explore cruising or our ship. This cruise had 3 full days at sea. The first day at sea, we had seas that were a little rough. They had to close off some of the decks due to high winds, and trying to run on the treadmills was comical. I was very happy to get on firm ground in Bermuda. However, on our 2 return days at sea, it was calm, and we were able to enjoy the sunshine. We were never really bored, but there's probably a happy medium in there somewhere between the two cruises. The Serenity Deck (adults only) was always too full, so we went to the upper deck with the water slides where there were plenty of chairs and more sun, and so few kids in Oct. We really didn't hang around the pool area as the music there was a little too loud. We're young and enjoyed the music, but it just wasn't pleasant at that volume. We did Your Time Dining, and the only time we had to wait was when they were also seating for one of the set dinner times, so I would suggest just avoiding those two times. Every night the staff was friendly and called us by name no matter where we sat. The desserts were just too tempting! I was also pleasantly surprised by the wine list. I really don't enjoy buffets, so we didn't visit it much, but the Mongolian wok was very good and the 24 hour pizza was nice. Bermuda was amazing! We stepped off the boat on Saturday and got into a fast-moving line to purchase 2-day transportation passes. It started raining, so we ducked into the Bone Fish to have some Boddingtons while waiting for the next ferry to Hamilton. The bartenders were very friendly and helpful. We had to rush to buy some rum as gifts in Hamilton as the stores were closing. We wandered around, then had dinner at the Hog Penny which was quite nice. The next morning, we hopped on the bus. I was looking for the 7 bus, but apparently, the bus system is more relaxed or had extra buses to handle the cruise passengers, because the driver just asked where we wanted to go. We said Horseshoe Bay and hopped on. We had to stand as it was full, and that made for a very exciting ride! I think the bus drivers enjoy making the ride an adventure! Whew! Some people were upset/surprised, however, traveling is an adventure. Enjoy it! The bus driver was calling in the locations of any passengers that he wasn't able to take on, so the system seems to work well. Horseshoe Bay was amazing. At the top of the hill from Horseshoe Bay, we stopped a Tio Pepe's, a little Italian place. It was so peaceful to sit outside and watch the world go by, and all of the local Bermuda residents were genuinely friendly! I just wish we had had more time in Bermuda. 24 hours just isn't enough! What was supposed to be a trip to Bermuda ended up being a trip to the Western Caribbean because of Hurricane Irene. The folks at Carnival thought it best to steer us directly into the path of the storm instead of sending us straight out to Bermuda. Big mistake. There were many sick people and there were barf bags tapped up beside each elevator. I have been on six cruises and I have NEVER experienced rocking like that before. I was terrified. While I am still quite angry at Carnival and I am seriously questioning whether I would ever book with Carnival again, there were some positives. The ship is old, but it has been completely refurbished and it looks new. It is very clean and it has modern décor (not the tacky Vegas-like décor typically seen on older Carnival ships). There is even an adults-only area on the back of the ship called Serenity. It has very nice chaise lounges with cushions and umbrellas. My only complaint about Serenity is that there isn't a pool, only two hot tubs. Not comfortable when you need to cool off on a 90+ degree day. The food in the main dining room was excellent and I really enjoyed the anytime dining, although most nights we did have a wait (no more than 15 minutes). It was still nice to be able to choose what time we ate dinner each night instead of being restricted to one time. Most nights we had a table to ourselves, so no awkward conversations with strangers. The food in the lido restaurant was ok. Though they really need some new breakfast options. I have been on six Carnival cruises and they all serve the same exact thing for breakfast everyday. The shows were sub-par at best. The first show we went to was so crowded, we had to stand for the entire show which made it hard to enjoy. The second show was a Beatles themed show, which I had previously seen on another Carnival ship. They really need some new shows! The band in the lounge played a variety of songs and were quite good. I do have to mention that on the last two nights of the cruise, there was a sewage smell in my cabin. I am not sure if it was because the cabin was in the back of the ship or not. I did mention it to the cabin steward who said that he would look into it. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it was a short drive from our NC home. Experienced cruisers, we had low expectations of Carnival and we were pleasantly surprised. Good service, lots of food and food choices, easy embarkation and debarkation. We will go again! Not all was perfect of course, but it was a nice getaway. Charleston streets are well marked for cruise traffic. The cruise staff was friendly, our room steward called us by name the first night, and unlocked the door for us several times when he saw us coming down the hall. We elected my time dining, never waited for a table, had various waiters who were friendly and eager to please. Cons: Only in Bermuda 24 hours. We knew this, but others on ship seemed disappointed. Bermuda closes shop after 5pm on Saturdays and on Sundays. However, several shops stayed open longer at the Dockyard because the ship was in port. Do your research folks! We did not go to shop. We took the Famous Homes tour which was informative, enjoyable and reasonably priced. We spoke with others who also took tours and enjoyed them very much. Henry at the piano bar was great. There was some type of entertainment for everyone. This was an older ship, but well maintained. We felt little movement for a smaller ship. Again, this cruise was enjoyable and relaxing. Read Less

The Carnival Fantasy cruise to Bermuda itinerary is basically a cruise to nowhere, but in a good way. You can have a wonderful getaway for a week, enjoy the scenery in Bermuda, without a lot of shopping. All the itineraries are Saturday 4pm to Sunday 4pm. This allows you about 1 hour to hit the specialty shops that are closed on Sunday. In other words, no time at all. This is not a problem for most of us that did our research prior to the trip, but many fellow travelers expected Carnival to do the research for them, and tell them ahead of time that the stores close on Sunday. I now realize why Americans have such a bad reputation overseas. The complaints were loud and obnoxious. I would suggest that Carnival place an "A-frame" just off the gangplank - or even an information sheet in your room - giving directions to the bus terminal, trolley stop, and taxi area to make it less confusing. Bermuda is a beautiful island, and after walking around the Royal Dockyard on Saturday, we bought bus passes ($12 each) and took the ferry to Hamilton, and the bus to Gibbes Hill Lighthouse. Horseshoe Bay beach is still very beautiful, but the sand is not as pink - hurricane damage? The lighthouse is not the same, a bit run down, and the Tea Room is gone. Still, the island is beautiful, with a lot of historical sites. Sunday ferries and buses are on a shortened schedule - something to be aware of when you visit. The Fantasy is one of the older ships in the fleet, but is very nicely laid out, and to me, a not so gaudy version of the rest of the fleet. We enjoyed the trip immensely. Much to do, which is typical of Carnival, excellent variety of food and drinks. The Bistro is top notch. We did the "your time dining", and prefer to have assigned seats, but this was not too bad - missed the show in the dining room, as you cannot see it from the side seating. We attended the Chefs Table, which was nice, but for the money, I would take the Steakhouse next time. The sea bass was excellent, but the Filet was the same that you get in the main dining room. I expected to have a steak similar to the filet I ordered at the Steakhouse on the Legend - which was wonderful. The chef went out of his way to make sure that I received a special sugar free dessert, and also a shellfish free meal. It was delicious, and the experience was great, but once you have done it, I don't feel the need to repeat the experience. I have the same comment as always about the crew - officers do not smile or even speak to the passengers. The "peons" are friendly, courteous, and go out of their way to make your stay wonderful. Our cabin stewards were great to us. I last traveled on the Fantasy in 1996, and remember paying $10 each time my sons lost a basketball overboard. Glad that court is gone! They made a few changes, but we enjoyed walking around and remembering the different decks and themes. All in all, it was a great trip, and we plan to make this a regular getaway for us. Read Less

Big Positive:We usually enjoy our cruises, but there are some usual malfunctions that we must overlook to have a good time. And after traveling on NCL, we had almost given up on Carnival. BUT the Carnival Fantasy fixed them all! The mattresses are usually the biggest problems with any cruise line: We were surprised and delighted by the "new" (new to us) mattresses. Frankly, the rest of the cruise improvements were just the icing on the cake after getting good sleep and rest breaks on those mattresses. The new (to us) wall papers and colors throughout the ship were a treat. The Fantasy still looked and felt like a Carnival ship, but she really had changed our ideas about Carnival. How great is that!Small Negative: The new computerized system in the casino was not very "user-friendly." But we usually do not gamble, so this was only a minor distraction on an otherwise great cruise.Bermuda, as always, was the best! Not a single "Senor Frog" or "Emeralds International" in site! Wish we could live there. Read Less
