This cruise was part of the Smooth Jazz Cruise "The Greatest Party at Sea" as it is also called. We have been on 8 of these cruises in the past on a different cruise line. Folks where I live told me how wonderful Celebrity was so we really looked forward to it. The music on this cruise (the reason we go) was nothing short of wonderful! No other way to say it 5 Stars... The ship and service and food was down right bad. Stateroom was not clean, had to have the sheets changed in the middle of the evening because of dead bugs. Food was over cooked not just a little but they made Chicken Jerky is was so dried. Cooks did not know how to crave ham, leg of lamb, or roast beef. ( I am a professional chef). Lunch meat were cheap, no flavor, there cheddar cheese must have at least one day of age on it ....again cheap. Have a meal in one of the upscale restaurants was no better. Service was fine but again the Chicken used in the Parmigino was a split cut chicken breast, breaded and fried to a golden black.....we sent it back. Some of the meal was fine but for a $45.00 per person up charge it should have been great. Order wine at the pool one day, never got it and was charged for it and it was diffucult to get it removed from bill. None of the employees smiled much it was if they did not like something. Every thing on the ship was $$$$$ like cell / internet service at $265.00 for a week or get this $25.00 per hour or $60.00 per day. Will not cruise with Celebrity again. Only reason not 1 star is because of the music.... Read Less

We chose this cruise primarily because we got such a great deal on it with great perks. We convinced another couple to go with us & had a great time. If you're looking for perfection on a cruise then you may never find it. I've seen other reviews that seemed to nitpick at the smallest of things, like rust spots on their balcony & such. Guess what? Salt water does that. They take great measures at maintaining the ship while not getting in the way of your vacation. At every port they took the time to wash down the ship & touch up paint as needed. Service was excellent, food in the main dining room was excellent, and most of the workers were very friendly & seemed to really enjoy their jobs. Our main waiter in the dining room (Richard) has been with Celebrity for 14 years & our stateroom attendant (Oida) has been doing her job for 15 years. The buffet is what you'd expect from a buffet, but there were always options for freshly prepared food, such as omelette station at breakfast, pasta station at lunch & dinner as well as options for cooking various types of meat to your liking. Captain Kate was great as well. Enjoyed hearing her announcements unlike some other cruises we've done where the captain was either mono tone or had no personality what so ever. This is more of an adult oriented ship so if you're planning travel with children you'd probably be better off with another cruise line. If however you enjoy your vacation MORE without having rambunctious children around, book with Celebrity! Read Less

My friend and I chose Celebrity because my travel agent said it was the only large-ship cruise line she would recommend. It was my eighth cruise, my 4th on a large ship, but the only one for which I can give a decent rating. I had switched to Windstar for last 3 cruises and before that, took a barge cruise with only 7 other guests through French wine country. I had sworn off large ships until I tried Celebrity. I was looking for something more affordable this time as I was traveling not with my husband, but with my close friend. We are two middle-aged women and the only thing I would do differently next time is lie and tell folks onboard that we are sisters. Once or twice the waitstaff mistook us for a couple, and other guests gave us chilly receptions sometimes until I casually mentioned my husband back home. Yes, I'm sorry to report that homophobia does exist on cruise ships, as we experienced some firsthand even though my friend and I are happily heterosexual. I think folks would have been friendlier to us if they thought we were sisters. Our ports were St. Croix, Martinique, Dominica, St. Kitts, and St. Thomas. Best excursions were in St. Croix (beach day at The Palms resort) and St. Thomas (beach day at state park). The worst one was on Martinique and involved "seeing" turtles through foggy glass, below deck in very cramped space, in the middle of a harbor, with a captain who did not know how to handle the boat well enough for us to get more than a fleeting glimpse. Save your $100 per person, folks, and wait til you get to St. Thomas. Go to the state park and let Kareem, your host, fill you with rum punch and set you free with a mask and snorkel. We hung out with three friendly turtles, several fish, and discovered a crab living inside a large conch shell. Doesn't get any better than that. Back on the ship, we couldn't have been happier with our little cabin on the 3rd deck. I have stayed in suites four times, but found nothing lacking in our well-appointed and very clean and tidy quarters. Our attendant walked in on us a couple times, but he'll learn. He was super friendly and new at his job. He just needs to wait for an answer after he knocks! The food blew us away in the Tuscan Grill. We bought the 3-dinner package and ate there twice. Simply amazing pasta and wonderful staff. Also very fun culinary experience at Qsine with the strangest menus we've ever seen. Really, even the main dining room and the buffet did not disappoint, and I'm pretty particular. Never liked those other ship buffets one bit. I am glad they've done away with trays, and we never had to wait more than a minute or two wherever we went. Burgers and fries hit the spot after a couple excursions in the late afternoon. We thought that Sarah and her crew did a fabulous job entertaining us while at sea. She was funny and bright, and made you want to hit as many game shows as you could. The other entertainment, especially from the comedian and the flair bartender, Mykola, also impressed us. Lots of laughing and tons of music to dance to. Luckily there were lots of women on the floor without their mates! Gotta love the muted dance party. What a way to bring groups who love different genres of music together in the same room. That was a real highlight for us. Sorry to mention this, but the magician was a bit lame. That's why entertainment does not get the full five stars. There is a lot more I could say, but no need to, really. We were happy with the classic beverage package. Plenty of offerings if you don't mind doing without martinis. You can still have a gin and tonic or Bailey's on the rocks at the frosty counter of the Martini Bar and watch Mykola juggle and share "real" magic tricks. He deserves big tips, everyone! No need to spend a bundle to have a very, very good time on Celebrity Summit. I will venture a guess that folks who are disappointed must have spent a lot more than we did because expectations tend to go up with the price paid. We enjoyed exploring Dominica on our own as well as St. Kitts, and learned what to avoid next time - if we're lucky enough to have a next time - while we pose as sisters to avoid any confusion. A few final words. We were extremely impressed with our captain, Kate, who entertained us daily with her riddles and words of wisdom. SO glad she chose to aim high and reached the Summit! Here's hoping she returns after her well-deserved 15-week vacation. Read Less

My wife and I occasionally cruise every few years, this being our fourth cruise. We chose Celebrity to experience a level of service above what we had on Carnival 3 years ago. We picked the Summit out of San Juan, Puerto Rico to sail the Eastern Caribbean and visit new and exciting islands beyond the typical ports like Nassau and Cancun. We looked forward to the entertainment, and as social dancers any opportunities for us to hit the floor. The overall experience was great, friendly staff. The food was delicious and the main dining room (MDR) menu excellent. The ship was very peaceful and relaxing compared to Carnival. This may have been due to different type of passengers (mostly middle aged couples), time of year Dec. vs. April sailing, or just ship atmosphere. I'd sail Celebrity again just for the entertainment and the dancing. The Summit staff were hard working and provided excellent service like on other ships & lines, but seemed more welcoming and had a culture to make sure you were as taken care of as they could deliver. I enjoyed being greeted in line every dinner in the MDR. It's a nice touch and is among the little things contributing to the overall experience. I was pleased by the number and variety of live musicians on the Summit. It seems there was a performance somewhere starting every afternoon and going through the night. The ship orchestra was excellent, but the bands in the lounge were also very good and gave a more intimate experience. There were other great musical acts with talent, the Lado Strings being an awesome violin experience. The live acts were supplemented by a DJ with pre-recorded music, so you always had somewhere to go to at least sit and listen and possibly dance. The Summit only has two lounges with a dance floor. The small one in the Rendevous (near the MDR) can hold 4 couples for stationary and 2 couples for progressive dancing. The medium floor in the Revelations (Sky) lounge had about twice the capacity, but held a dozen couples to shuffle to a romantic song. We danced several nights at all the venues and the bands would accommodate requests as much as they could, though they may be limited by the event theme such as the Carribean deck party. The Bandmates band did the best job and provided us with ballroom music - foxtrot, waltz, cha-cha, and even tango. My advice is don't be shy with requests - the musicians appreciate people dancing to their songs. The production shows had great singers and dancers. These shows went a step above and included aeralists doing amazing feats of strength and grace. There was a high quality show every night in the main theater. This was much better than Carnival where the theater only had productions a few nights and showed movies or other low cost options the remaining nights. The food in the MDR was delicious and every menu had several appetizers and entrees that would be only be available at a fine restaurant on shore. Among the best entrees were Beef Wellington and their house special Beef Tournedos. The Iron Chef night menu was an amazing experience when we could enjoy dishes with combinations of ingredients that became sublime. We had select dining and reserved the same table for the remaining nights after we got a superior wait team - they could tell we appreciated their efforts and we tipped extra at the end. The Celebrity Summit lunch buffet ranged from very good to average. My favorite was the international station with the curries. The big weakness on the buffet was lack of variety after 7 days. I didn't get to enjoy the fresh grill or custom sandwich station as they had long lines while open. The desserts were excellent, but the home made ice cream was the best of all. The flavors changed during the day as the ice cream was consumed. Our cabin was nice and clean, but we out and about and only there to change clothes and sleep. It did show age as somethings were broken, but still functional. The Thalasso spa pool was very relaxing. We spent many afternoons resting in the pool and hot tubs there. It was so good, I should have bought a pass to the Persian Garden to enjoy those facilities as well. Read Less

We are very disappointed with the vacation; the selection of food was horrible and left much to be desired. The food was really, really bad at the buffet. Other than the worn out and basic offerings like, pizza, fast food and sandwiches, there was only salad, pasta, chicken and lamb every day – no roast beef, prime rib, pork chops or ham on the bone or any other kind of quality beef..UGH! They did have minute steaks but were mostly fat and gristle. The executive chef should reconsider and compare this food to other cruise lines, I dare say Carnival and NCL. Most of the food in their buffet was in crock-pots so this made for a unappealing presentation. We tried breakfast at the buffet one morning and were confused because the eggs looked like macaroni and cheese. Thank goodness for Blu - I just wish that their menu selection was not so limited. Dave was the jewel in Blu last year and was painfully missed this year. Jolanta, Antonio and Rolando in Blue were the jewels this year. We did not eat in the main dining room so we cannot comment on their menu. Entertainment was basically nonexistent, difficult to find and most really boring. Ship is looking worn out with dirty and stained carpeting. The bars also looked tired and at times very smelly. We were on the 11th deck and the age showed drastically. Not the premium vacation they claimed and we hoped for. I put down on our reservation that we were celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary and no special attention was given (like the previous year with the cake and champagne). I didn't realize that Celebrity does not even give return guests a special reception, like other cruise lines. Captain Kate and her officers are to be commended for their dedication to their guests - they walk throughout the ship with a smile and always greet you and stop to chat. Sadly however, I cancelled our cruise on the Summit for next year and will rebook with NCL since our cruise on the Dawn this year was simply fantastic in comparison to this cruise. BTW - St. Thomas stop is now at a container port in Crown Bay Marina. Celebrity has signed a 10 year contract with this port which just began this year. They charge $4.00 pp to take you downtown for shopping or $7.00 pp to go to Havensight (the old cruise dock). Read Less

We were excited to return to the Summit and do the Blues Cruise again. It was like night and day. Musicians were awesome, fellow cruisers a blast. No problem there. But, the service was horrible. Except for Nehemiah at the Pool Bar- he was tremendous. We had Aqua Class, the same as the last cruise in 2012. The Blue Restaurant was fine. The Italian - forget it! Do not go, worst food and even worse service. Worst service I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. Literally. Buffet - forget it! Gross, except for the fresh fruit. Our room steward was nonexistent. We never saw him but a couple of times. The late afternoon "snacks" were ridiculous - 4 raisins and 8 potato chips? Five requests for a cup of tea and never got it. Although I got the hot water once - no tea bag, just water. The ship has deteriorated - rust everywhere. Scratchy towels, and we never used the "plush" bathrobes as they had been washed far too many times. The couch in our cabin was filthy and falling apart (you could see inside it!). Curtains to veranda were tattered and frayed and didn't open or close properly. Everything in the fridge was warm.. Tried a Heinekin beer...too warm to drink. Left it out with a note and was still charged (even though we had beverage pkg.) Room Service never came through for us. Gave up entirely on that - which was also included with Aqua Class, but became a point of frustration. We will not return although we will regret missing all the great music. Pool area dirty with chairs far too uncomfortable and worn. Same chairs as four years ago, gee, at least get some new cushions. It was really sad to watch people try to sit in them, or get up out of them. Saw many people fall which was horrible and a lot of people having to be "pulled" out of the chairs with the aid of a friend. Same thing for the buffet cafe chairs - you could see how the cushions were so worn they were hollowed out. I do not enjoy giving a negative review, and I have only posted a review a few (three?) times, when I was extraordinarily pleased with a local restaurant or service. This is my first time ever posting something negative. Embarkation quite smooth, disembarkation was a nightmare. Everyone just seemed to be saying, "but, where do we go?" Luggage transport perfect, but I just now received my luggage tags (December 22) for our (prior) October 28th cruise! Made me laugh.. We had quite a wait at the airport after the cruise and ran into a number of people from the ship and the overall summation was "what the heck? what a disaster"."Worst service ever." "What happened to the ship." Too bad, as it was truly awesome four years ago. But really, people, please TRAIN YOUR STAFF and please, please CLEAN and freshen up your ship.. I am sad at how disappointed we were. Really sad. Read Less
