We sailed on this Celebrity cruise as part of a rewards type trip. We have been on a handful of other cruises, one in particular was a Royal Caribbean Mediterranean cruise 4 years ago, that set the bar pretty high. The ship is really showing its age. Our room was tired and cramped, nothing out of this world. It was nice having a small balcony but it was worn, rusty and dirty. Our stateroom attendant was unfriendly and never around. I once called him because he forgot to leave a breakfast card for me and he actually argued with me that he had indeed left it, which he didn't. The main dining room was "just okay". The big disappointment was paying extra for the French restaurant, Murano. I am a great home chef so I expected to be impressed. I recall having risotto that was supposed to have truffle foam -- it was horrible. There was foam but there was not even the most subtle hint of truffle in it. We got so tired of being harassed about buying drink and dining packages, it was above and beyond irritating. There was one bright spot in the dining room -- one of the wait staff broke out in song and she had the most beautiful voice and spirit. A couple of the waiters started dancing too. It was a neat moment and actually reminded me of the spirit in which the staff on other cruises have presented themselves. We enjoyed our ports of call however but based on this experience, I would not choose Celebrity cruises again. Read Less

Great ship, food and staff. Would have been a 5 star experience if the music had been turned down to normal! The sound in the theatre and all entertainment areas was so loud it was distorted. Several times we left the theatre after 5 minutes and we also had to move several times in other ares because of the volume. OK, many of the travellers were old but that doesn't necessarily mean deaf! The other downside was the price of the WIFI. About $300 US dollars for 12 days! You must be joking! Cabins very comfortable and staff delightful. Food and service also excellent. Attention to hygiene great, no one in our group got sick! Range of tours offered excellent, although they do not tell you that in a number of cases the local hop on/hop off bus actually comes to the pier so you buy the shuttle bus ticket! Despite the downers a very enjoyable trip. Depends on your priorities I guess!! Read Less

This was my 5th cruise, 4th with Celebrity and first time on the Silhouette. I couldn't believe the Main Dinning room's menu never changed during these couple years. Also the 14/F buffet was lousy! The bathroom and parts of the public area smelled very bad. The odour came from the bathroom pipes and drainage system as the ship is not well maintained. The staff needs to be trained before serving the customers. They don't treat you like a " Guest " and are also very impolite. One of the staff asked my daughter " Do you EVEN speak English ? " My daughter is born and well educated in Canada. The iLounge staff service were very unhelpful and rude. Especially because they show you the attitude that " WE ONLY WORK HERE. THIS IS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. DON'T BOTHER US AT ALL." They made us feel unwelcome. I really don't know why Celebrity would hire their staff to ruin their reputation. Read Less

Having been on a number of major cruise ships, we have found Celebrity to be the best! We did a Baltic Sea cruise with our 4 (adult) children. I think it ranks as one of the top cruises we have gone on. The staff on Celebrity are the best! The ship is clean and maintains a level of cleanliness. Every port except for one was exceptional (we didn't particularly like Helsinki, Finland). Wish we had an additional day in Stockholm as we couldn't get into the port until the evening due to severe weather conditions. It is our second trip to Sweden and we were looking forward to a closer look of Stockholm. We departed from Amsterdam and visited Copenhagen, Tallinn, Berlin, St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm. Prior to our cruise, we spent 5 days in Paris, 2 in Bruges and 2 in Amsterdam (taking the train between countries). We have been to Paris but wanted our children to visit. It was our first trip to Bruges and Amsterdam. All were fantastic. We had an overnight in Copenhagen but think one day would have been fine. We had one day to visit Berlin (a 2 hour drive from the port) and wish we could have been there two days. St. Petersburg was amazing. We opted for a private tour for the six of us and chose ULKO Tours. It was simply the best investment we could have made. ULKO is top notch and we highly recommend them to anyone in any port on the Baltic Sea. Please don't be scared away by the tactics the cruise ships use when they warn you that they won't wait for you if you miss your ship's departure time. This may be true, but private companies like ULKO stake their reputation (and their business) on making sure you stick to the schedule and you are back to the cruise ship on time as promised. The only downside on all of the ports is that we wish we could have been in most of them much longer. But isn't that the case on cruises? Read Less

It was our third cruise with Celebrity and we've never used anyone else at this stage because I've never been convinced that there is better value or service to be had, and we've certainly researched them all! We came straight from an Arctic expedition out of Svalbard where we basically wore the same clothes everyday onto the luxury of the Silhouette. We love adventure and travel and we love the pampering from time to time and that's certainly available on Silhouette. We had a fantastic corner suite on the 9th at the rear of the vessel that had a side porthole and a rear balcony. Prior voyages on Celebrity have been in the inside passage from Vancouver to Alaska on Millennium I think and the Mediterranean on board Celebrities newer vessel Reflection. Both different and both fantastic. With a suite you have priority boarding but don't forget to fill out your paperwork first otherwise it can hold you up. We are very active and fit 56 year olds and so always took the stairs, except on special nights where my wife wore those high spikey glittery shoes, that men love but will never understand why women put themselves through that pain! Past experiences had taught us to pace yourself with the dining. The Murano restaurant was our favourite, and we took a cooking class they offered. We didn't marry because of my wife's ability to cook and sadly I can't see her making the crab terrine or Grand Marnier souffle at home but her personalty, beauty and kindness more than make up for her ability to burn water! We took almost every active shore excursion and keep saying to ourselves that we see these shore excursions as taste tests and determine which places we need to come back to one day to do properly. Whether that ever happens remains to be seen I guess. Loved Estonia, Sweden, Copenhagen, St Petersburg (Don't miss the Hermitage Museum, awesome!) On board shows were a bit hit and miss but everyone to their own. Some I loved, others didn't and visa versa. In a suite you have access to your very own specialty dining restaurant , Luminae, and we really enjoyed that. Intimate, quiet, fantastic service and great food although I'd say Murano had better, more upmarket food choices. The ship was in excellent condition with lots of activities, a great gym and doing the Baltics via a cruise is a great way to take a holiday. We only started cruising a few years ago as it never really appealed to us. We kick ourselves now and wish we had started many years earlier. Unpack once and let your hotel take you there! Read Less

We took the Celebrity Silhouette Baltic cruise on June 19th. It was the worst cruise we ever took and we will never cruise with Celebrity again. Our dissatisfaction is mainly due to the fact that most of the crew we dealt with was indifferent and did not care at all about customer satisfaction. There are many incidents I can site, but the following are the two biggest: Be very careful if you sign up for a Celebrity shore excursion. They canceled our shore excursion, Berlin On Your Own, at the last minute. The tour was for people who just wanted free time in Berlin and consisted of a 6 hour round trip train ride with a guide on the train with suggestions how to use your time. There were only 8 people signed up, so I had no problem with the cancellation. However, I later found out there was room on the train Celebrity’s vendor chartered for their shore excursions. The public train schedules to Berlin did not mesh with Celebrity's time in port, so we simply asked to buy a ticket on a train that was not full. Both Ben in shore excursions and his manager (I forgot her name) were rude and dismissive. They told us we cannot buy tickets for the train, they cannot control what their shore excursion companies do, and just said too bad when I told them they were ruining an important part of our vacation. Either they do not understand customer service or Celebrity needs to write better contracts with their subcontractors. Celebrity also canceled another tour that had 25 people on it when the tour maximum was 35. They also canceled a tour in St. Petersburg at the last minute, so those people were stuck on the ship since you must have a visa or be on a scheduled tour to enter Russia. The second incident occurred at the Tuscan Grille specialty restaurant. There was a pebble in my food that I almost broke my tooth on. The host, Andreas, said he would speak to the chef and never returned to our table. Perhaps he should have apologized, offered the meal for free, and asked us to stay as someone who is customer satisfaction oriented would have probably done. I walked out after about 10 minutes of waiting for him to speak with us again. He stopped me, asked if I was coming back, and told me the chef said the pebble was part of the dish. I said I would not return walked out. Then my husband found a bone in his broccoli and again Andreas said it was part of the dish. My husband ate about 4 bites of his dinner, and the waiter, who had acted like nothing happened the whole time, asked for his card so he could charge him for his meal. My husband told them they have got to be kidding and walked out. It was the worst restaurant experience we have ever had! By the way, there was a table full of Celebrity officers dining less than 3 feet from us. No one came over to see what the problem was. There were some positive things about the cruise. The ship itself is beautiful. We have been on a lot of cruises, and the public areas on Silhouette are some of the nicest we have seen on any ship. The food and wait staffs in the main dining room, Cuvee, and at the buffet are terrific. However, good luck getting an open seating table in the dining room when you want it. We waited over half an hour most nights. Also, Milana, the Assistant Guest Relations Manager, was terrific and tried to help us out with both situations above. She DOES know the meaning of customer service and we appreciate all she did for us. She helped us resolve the restaurant situation, but this could have been avoided all together if Andrea had handled it correctly to begin with. The Berlin situation is just inexcusable. Read Less

We wanted 3 days in St Petersburg to see as much art, architecture and history as possible. This was the only cruise that offered it. Our friends had taken Celebrity cruises before, and in particular, some friends had taken this Baltic Sea cruise last year, and they all highly recommended this cruise. Service on Celebrity ship was impeccable. This being our first cruise on a ship this large (Silhouette carries 2800 passengers) we had some concerns about congestion and service. But we were pleasantly surprised by the high level of service, personal attention, efficient exit from and entry into ship at every port, excellent food, etc. The pool area was a bit crowded occasionally, mainly because some people SLEPT on the lounge chairs (why they could no sleep in their staterooms, I will never know). My wife has restricted diet, and the restaurant staff did their best to accommodate her needs. The buffet had quite a bit of the type of food she eats (vegan), and the restaurant tried to make what she requested (although the chef sent a small bowl of mixed spices on the side, rather than cooking the spices with the vegetables - as is done in East Indian cooking). We met many many wonderful people from all over the world. (We also saw some small groups monopolizing some services, but this was tolerable). We did not get a chance to experience all the varied entertainment that was available on board. Shore excursions (with Celebrity) were very enjoyable. Overall, it was a fantastic, comfortable, enjoyable, memorable experience. Read Less

We always choose a cruise for the itinerary and this one had a great one. Also we had sailed on Celebrity's sister ship the Solstice last year and loved the ship. We find the service especially good with Celebrity, all staff are friendly and obviously well trained. The ship is beautiful as well as understated, with pleasing decor. On Celebrity's we also find the cabins comfortable and we'll equipped. This time we booked concierge class and the concierge was very helpful. Food is also tasty, we'll prepared, varied and as usual the service is excellent. As the itinerary is the main feature for us, we tend not to take advantage of the on board activities, games, casino, spa or bars, so we cannot comment on them. Evening entertainment was varied and interesting, although we found 2 out of 3 of their production numbers to be a little far out for our taste with odd choreography and unfamiliar song choices. Otherwise it was a very enjoyable cruise. Read Less

My husband and I cannot say enough good things about Celebrity, the "Silhouette," the Baltic Sea countries, etc. The ship is laid out very well, the food, especially in the Specialty Restaurants, is fantastic, the crew (kudos to the activities staff) appear to enjoy their jobs, and the ports of call were wonderful. We did all of our tours on our own or with local Tour Guides. Highlights in each port include: Stockholm-Vasa and ABBA Museums, Old Town and Changing of the Guard; Helsinki-Walking Tour with a Local; St Petersburg 3 Day Tour-SPB-Tours is one class act!; Estonia-Walking Tour with a Local; Berlin-SPB-Tours (discount because of St. Petersburg tour); Copenhagen-Tivoli Gardens; Amsterdam-Private Tour w/ Tom's Travel Tours-Edam Cheese, Windmills. We met fantastic people from our Roll Call, who we are now fortunate to call our friends! Celebrity does a fantastic job overall, and I don't know if I can wait until our next cruise in March, 2018! The ship was elegant and cabins (veranda) well appointed and designed. The food was excellent. In my opinion there is no reason to pay extra for the specialty dining. Entertainment enjoyable. This is a port intensive cruise with only two days at sea, but that is why we chose this itinerary. We did not use the spa, pools, gym, casino, etc., but did enjoy some of the lounges and sail-aways from the outdoor bar. We did not use the ship excursions. For St. Petersburg we used TJ tours (excellent 3 day tour with only 12 person per van) and for Berlin (from Warmunde port) six of us had a private car/tour with Jeremy Minsberg (excellent). For the other ports we used Rick Steves Baltics Cruise book and toured on our own. This is very doable. We arrived in Stockholm two days before boarding and stayed in Amsterdam for two days since we had to be out of our cabin by 8:00 a.m. the day we arrived in Amsterdam. That, unfortunately, is a rather abrupt end to a very nice cruise. Read Less
