Having cruised on/off since 1998, we booked this cruise as an end of season "chill out." Having been on the The Millennium which was great, we really expected great things from this '5 star' ship and the 'glossary seemed to deliver what we were looking for.

We have recently cruised with both Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Both ships carried well over 2500 passengers. Years ago we cruised the Eastern Mediterranean on a Greek ship which only held under 300 passengers and have also done a couple of river cruises.

We began our European adventure with two precruise nights in Barcelona..one of our favorite cities. Embarkation was a breeze at around 1pm. We were celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary so chose a longer cruise in a different part of the world than we usually cruise. The flight over meant that we had gone without sleep for over 40 hours before boarding ship. Should have stayed in Barcelona overnight.

Background Info: This was my 25th cruise and our first cruise being Captain's Club Elite level on Celebrity. We both considered this cruise to be one of the best trips we have ever taken (on sea or land). It was quite simply fantastic (albeit exhausting). This was our second Celebrity Med cruise in 2 years, last year we cruised the Eastern Med on the Equinox which set a very high bar for the Solstice to reach.
