My wife and I have just returned from a relaxing 10 day cruise aboard the Silhouette, we are maiden cruisers with Celebrity, having previously cruised with Princess and Cunard and this was our first cruise without our daughter, who we packed off to University only 4 days beforehand. Embarkation in Southampton was very smooth and relaxing as we choose to spend the night before in a hotel to save on the stress of braving the M25 morning traffic. The shore staff were very efficient and made us feel very welcome. Due to the turn around of passengers on the ship, we had to wait a couple of hours for the staterooms to be ready but the bars were open and the time passed quickly. Our state room (deck 7, starboard, balcony cabin) was very spacious, a minor grumble would be a lack of coat hangers but on the whole we were very pleased with it. Dressing gowns were provided and it was nice to have a large shower cubicle for a change. All the way through the cruise our cleaner was brilliant, knowing our names from the 1st time he spoke to us and always happy to see us. He could not have been more helpful. The only other negative regarding the accommodation would be that there was no access to an iron, which we found strange considering the evening attire tended to be smart casual so obviously shirts and dresses were the order of the day more often than not. The main focal point of the ship, the atrium was a little bit dated and it seemed that the glass elevators were the highlight of the area instead of the staircases and splendour that you would normally associate with it, although the ship is going in for a refit in February so I would guess this is one area that may look very different after that. The entertainment team, led by Bethany, were the best we have ever come across on any ship we have cruised on, the talent of the singers and dancers was truly exceptional and the shows were top draw. The Celebrity Band were brilliant and the general entertainment around the ship during the day and evening were also top draw. We attended a Q&A with some of the performers and it was quite eye opening to see how the shows came together and the lengths they had to go to just to become an entertainer with celebrity. There was always plenty to do around the ship, plenty of quizzes, art auctions and lectures etc... to keep you busy during the sea days. The indoor pool was very nice and both outdoor pools were also lovely to spend time around (just a shame they weren't a touch longer). We didn't use the gym or Sauna but both looked very good if that's what you were into. The spa area was well equit but from conversations with other guests, it was a bit pricey. The casino area was very good but never overly busy, even in peak times, this tended to be the bar to go to if you wanted to catch up on the world sports news. The ship had plenty of bars to choose from and we really enjoyed the service and quality of the drinks in the World Class Bar every evening. There were plenty of cocktails to choose from at every bar and all the staff were equally as good at making what you wanted. Be careful though as the classic drink package did not include all the drinks (up to $11) and even the premium package had a couple of drinks not included in it (up to $18). A slight grumble with the bars was that there never seemed to be enough seating available in the evenings and getting a drink could sometimes be challenging. During the sea days, the lack of seating was more evident around the bar areas, although the seats that were provided were very comfy, which was probably why people tended not to vacate them once sat down! There were plenty of well stocked shops, some you could argue were more geared towards the very high end shopper and, as such didn't seem to get to much custom other than the window shoppers. This maybe an area where possibly more seating areas could be gained instead? Dining is probably our most contentious issue, the evening traditional dining was as good as any we have ever had, the food was 1st class but I feel the service from the wine waiter especially, could have been much better. The dress code tended to be smart casual with 2 formal nights, it was good to see so many make an effort on the formal nights with tuxedo’s a plenty as, the smart casual nights were interpreted very differently by guests, more so the gentleman, some going for a suit, others going for the jeans and shirt and some slightly less fancy in t shirts. Our issues though were with Breakfast and Lunch in the Ocean View Café. There just was not enough seating for the amount of guests on the ship and it became quite a chore to find a seat, quite often meaning you had to eat in relays in order to keep your table, which was not a nice experience. To guarantee a table you would need to go to breakfast before 8am or after 10am and the same for lunch, again you needed to get there for 12pm or after 3pm. Obviously between 8am-10am are always going to be busy, but when there is 2800 on the ship and only 680 seats in the café you can see the problem. That said, the quality of the food was brilliant and it never seemed to run out, although my wife would have loved to see a bit more shrimp and prawns during lunch. The drink service during lunch was also a bit ‘hit and miss’ but this was probably due to the shear volume of guests in the café at peak times. The waiters/waitresses didn’t seem to just do an area and tended to float around everywhere, meaning that some times nobody asked if you would like a drink and other times 3 different waiters/waitresses would ask, but to be honest the quality of the food more than made up for this. My wife turned 21 (again Read Less

This is our second cruise with Celebrity. and certainly not the last. We got an "upgrade" , which we didn't want (a better category, but a worse location, so there were some problems on our first day, until we got our original room back. They did give us a free meal in Moreno as a compensation (which was amazing) for being homeless until almost 7pm. The service was great everywhere, and food was between very good to excellent. We didn't get to see all the shows, but loved the ones of the ship's dancers, singers and acrobats much more than most of the guest shows. (there were some very good guest shows, however...) The ports were quite good, and since we really love sea days, it was nice to have so many of them (one of the reasons we chose this cruise). The house band ("Trust me Jack") seemed to have a very limited repertoire, and that's a shame, since when someone asked them a song they don't usually play - they did it wonderfully. The rest of the bands were also very good, and not as monotonous... It could be nice, however, if there was a larger variety of music types (Calssic, Jazz and more) and not only 60's-70's-80's pop music. Read Less

This is the second time we have sailed on Celebrity Silhouette and our 15th Celebrity cruise altogether. As usual the service food, entertainment etc. were excellent. We had a wonderful stateroom attendant John and our waiter Wilfrid, assistant waiter Nitin and sommelier Alex looked after us extremely well and were very knowledgeable regarding menus and wines. We always chose late dining at 8.30pm as we prefer to go to the show before our evening meal. We were seated on Deck 3 in the main dining room which we love as we prefer to have the same table with the same waiting staff each evening. The evening meals were excellent, well cooked and always hot. Our only concern is that, having cruised with Celebrity many times, we feel that the evening dessert menu should be regularly changed. The food in the Oceanview is so varied you cannot manage to try everything and the desserts are extraordinary. Our stateroom was very clean as was the bathroom. Our bathroom toiletries were always replenished. The ship is due an upgrade in January which it is in need of as the décor and carpets are now looking unfashionable due to the colour schemes. The evening entertainment that we went to in the theatre was good as were the guest speakers throughout the day. Our Cruise Director Bethany was excellent. The only gripe we have is that so much of the armchair seating has disappeared from the balconies overlooking the Grand Foyer and from the Passport Bar on that level so, when entertainment is taking place in this venue you are very lucky if you can find somewhere to sit. Mostly we had to stand and watch. However, we will always book cruises with Celebrity as we have never had a bad one, and already have reservations for 2 cruises from Cape Liberty in May next year and another future cruise booked for 2021. Embarkation at Southampton was quick & efficient, cabin was fine though a little minimalist in its decor. Our cabin steward, Anand, was excellent and we thanked him very much for his work and his friendliness. Dining: We generally ate in the MDR as the Oceanview Cafe was like a ferry with good food options but chaos trying to move around the serving isles and finding a table... One fellow passenger referred to the Cafe as "...a bunfight.." The food in the MDR was good overall and our servers - Jobita and Pavel, were very good, friendly and efficient. The Aqua Spa Cafe was a nice touch though it wasn't clear exactly what was included and what we had to pay for, also the staff there were fairly miserable.... We ate in Murano twice and Tuscan Grille once, the food was good BUT not worth the extra $50 per head extra on top of what we'd already paid for the MDR. The menus are limited in each restaurant. I also did a galley tour whilst on a sea day and that was good but ended up as a selling exercise :( Three sea days on the trot is not much fun when the sea was rough and we couldn't wait to get off at Sao Miguel. All the port days were very enjoyable as were the two excursions we did - Sao Miguel - Crater Lakes and Teide National Park, Tenerife. In general the crew and especially the officers we saw around the ship were quite offish and made little or no attempt to even say "Hello", this we found very odd and rude and not like other cruise lines we've used; perhaps some customer service training would be a good idea? So they remember why we're all here on the ship. Other niggles were : $4.50 for a small bottle of water!!! $10 for port shuttle buses and why are coffees/teas not included free with a meal, especially in the speciality dining rooms? We didn't once order a coffee after a meal as we knew we'd have to pay extra for them. This is poor and again unlike other "premium" cruise lines. Entertainment: OMG, I don't think we managed to last more that 10 minutes at any event we went too, it was somewhat Butlins like and not for us; and judging by the empty seats then not for others either! The cruise director was too loud & over the top with her 10:00 am announcements and general chat so much so that I'd turn our cabin TV up so we'd not have to listen. So, overall it was a mixed cruise experience and we're unlikely to use Celebrity again. Shame, as we'd heard good things about them. They may think they're a luxury/premium cruise line but the level of service is the first thing you'd notice. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary as we had cruised in the Mediterranean previously and wanted to see somewhere different. We stayed in the Blue Keys Hotel in Southampton which was really lovely, we had an excellent meal there. I would recommend as it approximately 10 minutes from the port. Embarkation went very smoothly, no queueing. While the ship was lovely there was less to do on board compared to the Jewel of the Seas which had a rock climbing wall, pool table, mini golf and a sports court, also there was more entertainment in the various bars and certainly more seating. We felt that the ship was very crowded, we were on the second sitting in the Cuvee MDR and having finished our meal we found it almost impossible to find a seat to enjoy the entertainment in the Passport bar. We would then have to trawl the bars looking for seats. On the last silent disco evening we had to pull stools from the Casino in order to sit down. There were 2 couples in our party and having spent almost €10,000 (this included flights and hotel stay in Southampton) between us we felt this was not good enough. There was a similar situation in the Ocean View at breakfast and lunch which felt chaotic at times and also in Cafe al Bacio, a beautiful space but with not enough seating. We found this very frustrating. Another issue was the fact that they ran out of drinks several times, we felt having spent a fair amount of money on the classic drinks package that this was unacceptable. When we went to customer services to complain we were told that the Beverage Manager was too busy to come and talk to us, which was very bad form indeed. We had already complained to the bar staff but the buck stops with the Beverage Manager. There should have been more space between the sunbeds, they were so cramped which would be ok if you knew the person on the sunbed beside you but way to close for comfort if you didn’t!! I have to give full credit to the staff and crew they were all excellent, so professional and friendly. Overall we had a good time but Celebrity really need to sort out these issues and give customers what they have paid for. Read Less

This was our third cruise on Silhouette and took us to the Azores Madieira Tenerife and Lisbon. We thought the food and service were excellent. Our main grumble is the same as previous reviews in that there are too many passengers on board when the ship is not in sunny climates. On the way to the Azores we had to vere a different course to what was planned due to the remnants of a Carribbean ,this meant the weather was not good enough to sit outside with the result everyone was in public rooms . There was no spare seats anywhere and obtaining a table in the Ocean view dining area was very difficult.Because of this we chose to have several lunches in the grand dining room whi Ch proved to suit us better. Another problem with the overcrowding was when we had our boat drill in the theatre it was impossible to exit due to so many people waiting for lifts.Celebrity class there ships as luxury ,in luxury I do not expect to have these problems and yet they are still going to add more new cabins in the upcoming refit. Mont seems to be the main thought in Celebrity's motives. Read Less

Food was inconsistent We had cold rib eye steaks Tough/ undercooked duck Semi frozen French toast Cold Lobster Been on the Celebrity Eclipse many times. Never had a problem. Also drinks package "classic" would not let us have sparkling water only Soda water BUT In the bar a double Henessy brandy no problem. Staff generally were brilliant let down by poor chef. The ship sailed through Bay of Biscay and withstood terrible weather. The Captain re routed on the way out to avoid bad weather. Captain George was very good when he gave 45 minute address. Entertainment was not bad but the Phil Collins Tribute was poor and we walked. Michelle Monro talks were all excellent . She gave emotional address every one of 4 lectures we went to. DNA talks by visiting Dr.Gary on board about Amanda knox and an american footballer O.J.Simpson were also very good Shifting of deck furniture at 3.30 am above us deck 11 was not welcome. Room service for breakfast on last day was not available. Blu opened at 6.30 am and we had to disembark at 7.00am . Not good. Read Less

We were recommended Celebrity by our TA who said once we had used them we would never go back to other cruise lines. The check in was very good and we were on board by 11am in good time for lunch, but our first impression of the ship was dull and drab. The general look was brown and beige with seating that would not look out of place in a nursing home. but I will go in more detail later. The food in the buffet was very good and the service for drinks was quite quick, there is enough seating in the buffet and the staff were good and always happy to have a chat. We ate most of our evening meals in the MDR and found the food to be of good quality and with a good range of choice but they do seem to have a thing for mashed potato. the service was quick but a little strange. We were on a table for 10 (though it should have been 2) my wife sitting next to me was always served first followed by the other ladies on the table and then the men were served with me last, this meant that my wife had almost finished her course by the time I had got mine served. I know its manners to serve the ladies first but I did think we were in the age of equality. There was no issues with the drinks though at all times even in the bars they need both of your cards when you are on a package and yet other lined seem to cope with only one, it is pretty obvious when you are together and not getting drinks for a third party, but I guess rules are rules. we were very disappointed with the entertainment on many levels, firstly the theatre shows; the Jersey Boys tribute on the first night was very good but things went down hill from there. On the second night the team did a vocal tribute to the shows, starting with La Mis. and then they got very self indulgent singing songs from shows that no one seemed to have heard of. The stage setting is just a blank black stage with no props and no scenery. We went to the next production show and once again it was a blank stage and just about killed the show, a lot of people were walking out but out of respect we sat through to the end and it was dire. Other acts around the ship (at most 2) were set either in the atrium of the pub style bar on deck 5. The atrium has big nursing home style chairs and a capacity for about 30 people. if you are not in a seat by 6pm then you have to either stand or sit on the floor to see the act. In the bar on deck 5 there is more seating but most of it is well away from where the act is performing, once again the chairs are large high back and they take up a lot of room limiting the availability. Every other ship we have been on (and there are a lot) have an entertainment lounge at the back of the ship to compliment the theatre at the front. On this ship that space is taken up with select dining that does not seem to be used as much as it should. If you like to dance then this is not the ship for you, there are only two spaces; one being the atrium with a very small odd shaped space and the other is the sky lounge with a good floor that goes wasted for much of the time. They advertise a "Ballroom playlist hour" in the sky lounge each evening at 8pm and we went very expectantly. The music was on auto play at background music level and there is no member of staff to organise it. The music is so quiet that you can hear your feet on the floor over the music. Some novice dancers were unsure what dance was playing and it ended up with about four different dances being attempted at the same time. We gave up after that but asked the entertainment manager if they could sort things out but her reply was "we only really do food and if you like dancing you would be better going on P&O) not a good representative for the company. On the day we were to land at the Azores we were informed that we would be 3 hour late but as a sweetener they would show a film, the film was set to run from 12 noon for over 2 hours so the choice was either lunch or film, bit of good organising there. On one night during the evening meal we were approached by the maitre d of the main dining room and asked if we had considered the speciality dining and I explained that we found the cost to be prohibitive. He then offered us the opportunity to experience the "Tuscan Grille" at a reduced price of $25 and we agreed and the meal was booked for 6pm. We were sat in a large empty room just the 2 of us for the first 45 minutes, so not very popular. One of the courses I ordered was a half portion of meat balls in spaghetti, part way through the meal I started choking and my wife pulled a long piece of string (about 2ft / 60cm long) from my throat. The string was quite thick and having been cooked with the spaghetti it was the same colour and indistinguishable from the pasta and could have caused a fatality. My wife called the waiter who took the food to the kitchen and the maitre d and the head chef came to the table to apologise, the food was not replaced and they just served the next course. We did not hear anything else about the incident. On checking my account on the following day I found that we had been overcharged ($30 each I would have expected at least some recompense for the incident ) I then approached the same member of staff who had made the offer and he denied that he had made the offer. I then explained that due to his denial I would now be making a formal complaint via guest services and this would continue via the channels I am now using. Whilst I was reporting the matter he came over with the head of the Tuscan Grille stating that they would resolve the matter. The following day my account had been altered to $25 each, though this is what we had originally agreed it goes a long way short of recompense for the pain and indignity of the whole experience. Finally would I choose Celebrity again? if you had a bad meal in a restaurant would you go again, if you had a bad time in a hotel would you go there again and if you had bad treatment on a ship........ Ill leave you to fill in the space. The last place I need to report on is the Coffee lounge, again it had nursing home chairs and people spent all day there either asleep or reading books. Every one we spoke to called it the nursing home, and don't expect to find the fancy cakes you see on the videos it is mainly danish pastries and muffins. Read Less

I have travelled Celebrity many times but never have I experienced so much noise. the cabin we were allocated was concierge class cabin 2145 it has a restricted view although a premium price is being charged. the noise from the above main café is unbearable day and night 24hours a day, when complaining to the front desk manager a derisory offer of compensation for a completely ruined holiday. all of the ships crew were aware that the noise in the surrounding cabins was a problem. The crew were good with their service, the entertainment cruise director was poor and no where near as good as the previous cruise directors we have seen and met on Celebrity. Been on several times before but: Usually there are "Free to view" movies on the Television this time we were two thirds through the cruise before they appeared again. Probably owing to many critical comments. Select dining is meant to be available for reservations between 1730 and 2130 (I think) in the main dining restaurant but on this cruise reservations were not available between 1800 and 2030. Some of the decisions by the Cruise director (I assume) to host entertainment in the strange venues bewildered most people. Example: A very popular movie or entertainer are placed in Celebrity Central where there are not enough chairs therefore extra chairs are brought in, then more people come in and stand at the back which in my opinion is a disaster waiting to happen. The theatre is free and not used. Excuse from the staff: needed to rig for the next day? Having said all that, the crew for the main part are amazing and nothing is too difficult for them if you ask. Having cruised Celebrity from Southampton for the last 5 years, we chose the September cruise to the Med because of its itinerary, we normally go earlier in the summer. The ship continues to look better than others newly refurbed although she is due hers early next year. Food was awesome and we struggled to choose most nights in the MDR. The crew were fantastic! Only gripes I would have was that our 15 yr old son was the only teenager on this cruise so struggled to keep himself entertained as most of the teen activities were cancelled, but he still had a great time. The lawn Grill food was excellent along with the service but left us a tad cold regarding the cost and that the menu didn't have chips to go with a wonderful steak, so ordered a baked potato, only to find that I could have ordered them anyway, why not state this on the menu? Please Celebrity lets stop the Café Bacho becoming a library on sea days!? If folks aren't taking a coffee/tea etc they should be moved on, not be allowed to sit for hours just reading a book! As I say these are gripes, again we had a fantastic cruise, and booked on board for next year on the re-imagined Silhouette 274 days and counting!!! Read Less

Celebrity remains our favourite line despite cruises on P & O, Cunard and Royal Caribbean. We were booked in a Celebrity Suite but as my wife has mobility problems and really needs a walk in shower( not present in Celebrity Suite) we were lucky to get a last minute cancellation for a Royal Suite at greatly reduced price. The Suite is very similar to a Celebrity Suite but with the walk in shower and a bigger balcony with a Jacuzzi - rather grubby and remained unused. There are Sky Suites with disability features but at the stern end of the ship and in any case were unavailable.Perks included unlimited specialty restaurants ( became useful - see below) and a premium drinks package - not much use as my wife doesn't drink but it did mean a much nicer glass of wine with my dinner. The butler Jackie and suite attendant Jose were superb. This is being a bit picky but the suite needs the refurbishment that is coming soon - the table in the room was badly worn and the carpets looking a bit drab. We were in Luminae restaurant where we have dined before. The staff - from maitre'd Claire downwards were excellent and it was not their fault that the food was so disappointing. The menu is very limited and most people were asking for the menu from the MDR. The portions were tiny, especially the vegetables which often arrived tepid. On our last night my steak was of motorway service cafe standard. In fact the best evening meals we had were when we chose to eat upstairs in the Ocean View Restaurant (twice) and made use of our speciality dining perk to eat in the Grill on the Lawn (twice)where the food, especially the steaks, were of the highest standard. We tried Cuisine once but whereas it was previously a great experience we found it gimmicky, again with a very limited menu. We preferred breakfast and lunch in the Ocean Cafe - a bit crowded but much greater choice than in Luminae. All stops pulled out on last day's lunch in the Ocean View - choice of beef, lamb.turkey carvery, barbecued chicken, Indian,Chinese,Mexican, incredible cakes and a white chocolate fountain with fruit kebabs.(to my surprise only gained 5lb over the two weeks. Entertainment not of the highest order. The days of flying out big names are over. A good 60's group on first night(The Overtones) and a Jersey Boys type group(East Coast Boys) on last night - not bad but Franky Valli needn't worry. There were several silent discos held in the main foyer. Silent in name only - any attempt at conversation in Baccios two floors up was almost impossible. Don't know why they don't have these in the Sky Lounge on 14. The place sounded like a rowdy party night on Independance. That probably sounds pompous but Celebrity has always been a bit more sophisticated than Royal Caribbean. Often there are problems with shuttle services at ports for those with mobility scooters but we had excellent service in this respect at La Spezia and Lisbon. We enjoy the quizzes for daytime entertainment and the two entertainment officers who did these - Chantelle and Ryan were great and well liked by the participants. All in all a very enjoyable cruise with just a few grumbles. Read Less

This was our fourth cruise, first time with Celebrity. I have to say out of all the cruises we've done, this was my favourite company. They went out of their way to be helpful. Each and every staff member greeted you, smiled and said good morning, good afternoon etc as you walked past, from the lowest paid cleaners to the top management. I really felt like I was a valued guest on the ship. What I also liked was the amount of activities on board, particularly on sea days. There was always something to do, which we hadn't found with other companies. There were lectures, quizzes, behind the scenes tours, fitness activities, a library, and my particular favourite, a hideaway where you could grab a coffee and sit quietly with a book. We only tried one of the speciality restaurants - QSine, which was an interesting experience. On the whole the food was very good and they worked hard to deal with my husband's food allergies. A couple of niggles:- 1) not a lot of places to sit that were easy to get in and out of for the less mobile. The pool chairs you expect to be difficult, but a lot of the easy chairs in places like the library, the hideout, the solarium etc, were quite low to the ground. Easy to jump up out of if you're young and athletic. But if you're not, there's not a lot of choice of where to sit comfortably. 2) the people in charge of entertainment didn't seem to get that we'd sailed out of a British port and that 90% of the passengers were British. The daily crossword contained an awful lot of American cultural references, like names of Country singers and comedians that would be unfamiliar to the British public. Also the daily crossword was full of mistakes and even missing clues! Very annoying. The last straw for me was going to a quiz billed as TV music. The TV theme tunes played were all American ones - I Love Lucy, Seinfeld, The Golden Girls, The Office (American version) etc. Not a Hollyoaks or Eastenders in sight. They did play the theme to Dr Who, but then I think that's also quite popular in America. So most of us were sitting around looking at each other in puzzlement at all these tunes without a clue as to what they were. Read Less

I'll apologise now if this is a long review but it has to be said. This was our 5th Celebrity cruise and the 2nd on The Silhouette. We love the Celebrity brand and have only ever cruised with them. I often read reviews and realise that SOME people exaggerate. I hope to give it a fair and balanced review. First the good points ! Stateroom fine 1245 on Deck 10 Concierge. Near the lifts but not noisy in any way at all.Considered going Aqua for same price but was warned off by reviews which said that Aqua staterooms were under pool areas and were noisy early morning with chairs being dragged around. Our steward Jon was fabulous and deserves a mention. Everywhere was kept clean and he was very friendly. For reasons that will become apparent below we were really glad that we had our own balcony and we used it a lot. We ate in the Main Dining Room at a table for 2 ( We had asked for a 2 when we booked but were initially put on a 6 and this was quickly rectified) Thank Goodness because we must have had the BEST waiting staff ever. Yanti, Santi, and Sommelier Aneesh really looked after us well and were so friendly and kind it made the cruise for us. Assistant Maitre D' Pero never stopped walking around making sure all guests were happy and always had a friendly word, lovely man ! On other cruises we have always eaten at 8.30pm and watched the late show at 10pm This cruise was dining at 6pm or 8.30pm with the shows at 7pm and 9pm. In our opinion this didn't work. The theatre entertainment was at best fabulous to very very bad. One comedian was horrendous and deeply out of his depth. One of his first comments was something about Americans then "That's why the Brits hate you !" You can imagine the feeling after the initial intake of breath? He needs to find another job because he wasn't funny. The 3 guys singing Motown were superb as were the resident band and entertainment team. Sue Denning the Cruise Director did a great job with Pete as her assistant and never appeared to stop working. Music acts around the ship was ok but with some the songs were repetitive as was the late night disco...same songs each night. All the staff on board were brilliant,we couldn't fault them. They work long hours but always have a smile and a polite hello. Now for the down sides. There were 600 (Babies to 18yrs) children on a cruise that patently couldn't cater for them. They would have been better suited on Royal Caribbean where they have more things to do. First I'd like to say that the majority were well mannered and polite. However there were a huge minority who were not and were allowed to run feral around the ship with the accent on run ! They must have been bored because they were forever playing on the stairs. They ran through Oceanview buffet restaurant or walked at you in groups with no intention of moving around you. These tended to be 9-14 yr olds. I also personally saw a child on his own run through the main dining room to the toilet with waiters carrying trays loaded with food having to swerve out of his way. At night they congregated in the Hideaway or the Library, swinging around in the chairs, throwing cushions around, leaving cans lying littering the floor. The older teenagers seemed to walk around in packs and although I never saw any bad behaviour they seemed blind to the fact that other people were around. I've read a review earlier on from a parent criticising Celebrity for not putting enough things on for kids. I don't think they realise that this is not that sort of ship ! in our previous cruises there were about 20 children and you hardly ever saw them. That's why we were astounded to find 600 on board ! If we had known we would never have booked this cruise. Celebrity please either change how many children you welcome on board or let people know its going to be like Butlins ! The New moon party on deck was something we looked forward to. We didn't expect there to be both pools full of screaming children of all ages, the youngest we saw was 3/4 and this was at 10.30pm. Because they were in and out of the water the deck was awash and a poor pool attendant was desperately trying to keep everywhere dry to avoid accidents as it was very slippy. We didn't stay long as this was more like a Carnival or Disney cruise and not what we'd signed up for. We spoke to many parents who didn't know where their children were and some who obviously didn't care. I spoke to a couple who said their 14yr old son had come back the night before at 1.45am and they were in bed ! I could go on but I think you get the idea by now. DON'T book a cruise in the school holidays with Celebrity. I spoke to many people who said it was their first cruise and would never cruise again. Such a shame ! It has put us off cruising with Celebrity again after singing their praises previously. We may try it again out of school holidays or try an adults only ship with another company. Besides the children we were disappointed with the shops on board. They had exactly the same things as they did last year. Everything very overpriced or cheap and nasty stuff in the sales they had. Excursions were ridiculously overpriced and the overwhelming feeling was that Celebrity are getting greedy, pushing trips, speciality dining and photographers circulating the Dining room while you are eating then charging silly prices for photos. I'm sorry if I've gone on but I wanted to give a balanced view instead of moaning about one thing. Despite all this we managed to have a nice time. Read Less

Chose this cruise because it was one of the very few Med itineraries offered by Celebrity they seem to mostly do Northern Europe or canaries. When booked early June was surprised to see how many cabins where still available. Embarkation was very good as usual, just after leaving Southampton Captain announced visit to Vigo was off due to bad weather these things happen so no problem. 1st sea day weather was not good so not a lot of people on deck but started to notice how full the ship was, mostly families was told by members of staff there where 600 children on this cruise compared with 16 on the previous cruise. The ship is starting to look a bit tired now rust and flaking paint in lots of areas but was informed it’s going to be refurbished next year.the cabin 1B balcony had a few issues sound on tv wouldn’t work sometimes and no night light in the bathroom which was repaired on day 2. Dining in the MDR was ok but seemed rushed we where on select dining and booked all our times on the cruise planner days before which was good because a lot of guests who just turned up ended waiting up to 60 mins to get a table Oceanview cafe was always busy due to the large amount of guests on this cruise a few complaints about the food not being hot The entertainment was average have been on a few celebrity Cruisesthe last few years and the main shows have not changed Service was not as good as recent cruises I think it may be due to the crew/ guest ratio on this particular cruise Ports of call, missed Vigo due to weather,Lisbon,Barcelona and Gibraltar were the only stops we got off which were all good, stayed on the ship for the other port days and it was heaven Sea days sunbeds not a problem just no space to pitch one, families taking 4 beds at a time but only 2 being used, impossible to get a bed by the pool unless you put a towel on a bed at 7am, (9 cruises on Celebrity never seen this before) Have been on Royal Caribbean ships and are great for families mainly because there is loads for children to do,flow ride, mountain wall ,etc.but on Celebrity ships they haven’t got these so children make there own fun ,chasing up and down stairs in and out of lifts. how much soft scoop can I get in a cone to name just 2 but their where a few more and staff didn’t seem to bring the to task, this was more like a Royal Caribbean ship but without the activities to use Will probably do Celebrity again but not in school holidays relaxing this cruise was not. We chose this cruise as we have sailed with celebrity twice before on different ships and were very satisfied with them. As it was our wedding anniversary we upgraded to a corner sky suite with a larger balcony (Was the best thing about the cruise). Overall it was a disappointing experience due to the high amount of passengers and cramped deck space. It seemed like there wasn't enough capacity in the bars and restaurants to cope. The evening entertainment was also in the main poor with a rush to get seated for the big shows and very little in the way of waiter service. The lawned areas of the deck in my opinion are also a wasted space useful only for more revenue for celebrity to charge extra for alcoves. As this was our anniversary we were told that we would receive a meal in one of the specialty restaurants but this did not happen and flowers and champagne bought for us by a friend only arrived when we were going to bed. We didn't even get a window seat in Luminae that night. The last time we cruised with celebrity was my wife's 50th birthday and was treated to the captain's table and an expensive bottle of champagne. Excursions were good and well organised. Overall it wasn't a bad cruise but for the money I would expect a lot better. Read Less

We chose the med cruise because we did the baltics on same ship last year, what a difference Petty rules and regulations stopped kids and teens having fun Passengers tried to nake larger of 2 outdoor pools adult- only, managed to get it for over-12s only, leaving small pool over-crowded (about 600 kids and teens on ship) They tried to get all under-12s in kids factory and teens to stay in x-club to keep them out of the way of their preferred passangers They put a sea marshall permanently in hideaway, where they preferred to gather, and made them whisper The disco was in sky lounge and usually started at 11.45pm each evening, all under-18s were foreably ejected at midnight, even those sitting with parents A kid about 11 had a wanted photo of him placed around ship because he accidentally hit a girl with a water volleyball, he was escorted by 2 sea marshalls to his parents A lady photographed teens in hideaway and when was asked to delete photo, dragged one teen to guest relations, who were not interested when the teen said that was assault There were approx 500 extra guests on board than usual, this was very apparent in cafe and restaurant, as service was strained The entertainment was very poor and lack-lustre Sue, the cruise director, had no idea about entertaining families If you are thinking of travelling on silhouette in aug 2020, I would consider it very carefully, because the passengers travelling without family do not want their holiday compromised and the ship's officers pander to their every need, to the detriment of families Read Less

Positive reviews of this ship helped me make the right decision. I was travelling with a disabled mum, so knew this ship would be good for her too. The cabin was 3104 - accessible and was great for mum’s wheelchair and scooter. The steward was lovely and kept the cabin clean and tidy for us. The staff are amazing! Annoy do enough to help you. The main areas we enjoyed were the upper deck of the pool - deck 14 - still in the sun, but away from the kids in the pool. The solarium was lovely too, just a shame it’s inside. We spent lots of time in the Passport Bar as this was closest to our cabin, and when entertainment was in the Grand Foyer you could enjoy it. The MDR was lovely, we chose our times and sat upstairs - cannot fault the food or the staff... in fact I preferred the steak in the MDR to to Tuscan Grille. I had a mixology class which was great fun. I also had a lovely facial... but BE WARNED.... I booked the cheapest one - which was still an arm and a leg... and she changed it without telling me, then when she said the bill total it was way more than I had planned. She said the facial I chose wasn’t right for my skin type, but as she didn’t want me about this I refused to pay the extra and she agreed to this.... they do add tip on - even though I had prepaid tips. The casino was great fun as were the quizzes and games shows. And the shows themselves were good - just one duff one out of two weeks. Sue the Cruise Director was great too! We did our own private tours of Rome and Tuscany - £500 for up to six people... better value than the boat excursions. We did the hop on off bus in Barcelona and Marseille. The shuttle cost was steep in one of the ports €20 each, but other shuttles were cheaper. It was great to get mum into the cities! Read Less

After so many fabulous Celebrity Cruises this was Benidorm at Sea Disinterested crew, unruly guests, cold food, average wines being passed off as premium,a front desk that was perfect at apologising without being pro active, repetitive menu in the ocean view unless you love fajitas and macaroni cheese every day... no description of your evening meal in the MDR just super swift need to clear this table for the next guest service Beyond disappointed Booked 4 Alcoves based on previous experiences..this one had no ropes no privacy and was a huge waste of money, now a public area no WiFi as advertised save your money its a rip off People sat on towels everywhere, using alcoves having not booked, and smoke from the engine mixed with the fuel odour. Disinterested crew that need to finish their chat before you may ask a question. To summarise, despite reaching out to Guest services it’s all a front, nobody irks really interested how your experience really is. Read Less

My wife and I are fans of Celebrity, they just know what they're doing when it comes to cruising, service etc, usually that is! This cruise we felt Celebrity may have bitten off more than they could chew - so many kids set the crew up for a difficult set of circumstances. I'm sure the security guys were glad to see the back of (some) of the kids. That along with some bumpy weather, this cruise could be considered hard work for the Celebrity crew. We thought the food was always good, the Oceanview cafe was crowded, but once your seating was secured the meals were fine. Whoever was cooking the 'Indian Delights' needs a pay rise - loved it! The guys in the main dining room always do a great job, once again we thought the food was good, consistent standard, plus if you want more, just ask! As usual (with Celebrity) our stateroom attendant was awesome, always had our room spotless, she was even working thru the days she wasn't feeling great. (Bumpy weather) We thought the nightly shows were a touch inconsistent, a couple of beauties a couple of duds. The acrobatic kids were a definite highlight, so brave! We love a good comedian, we had three different guys this time - one great, one not so good and the other actually sang better than his comedy. Altho he came up with a couple of cracker jokes! My fav was about what his pet hate was? Having to give our first port of call a miss due to bad weather made for a few more sea days than we had expected, daily activities were a bit limited. The ports of a call were all interesting, altho a few extra costs involved with shuttles etc didn't go down well with most people we spoke to. Especially in Marseille, passengers asked to pay $20 for a shuttle into the city, only to go past the free shuttle 100m down the road!! Even though this cruise had it's issues, and it wasn't our best, we always enjoy our cruising, so didn't let the problems spoil the fun!! Read Less

Can I just firstly say that the crew were absolutely amazing, each and every one of them! Some days I did enjoy myself but for the most part I was not happy with this cruise at all. Firstly it was very overcrowded. Apparently it was some kind of record, over 3500 passengers. Due to this a lot of people could not get sun beds or even seats in the ocean view cafe to eat. You pay that much money you should have a sun bed allocated for you and a place to eat the food you paid for. It felt like a 3 star holiday resort where everybody runs for the sun beds. At the bars I saw a lot of arguments between people trying to get served. The bar staff couldn’t control it they never knew who to serve next and people were pushing in. On my last night I had an argument myself at the ice bar. Everybody sits around the bar so you can’t get served. I was waiting for 15 minutes then all of a sudden this rude man tried pushing me out of the way and said it was his seat. I tried to explain I didn’t want to sit down I just wanted a drink then I was going to stand back. Then his friend started on me saying I didn’t understand. It’s ridiculous that people are allowed to cover the whole bar by sitting down, drinking, then getting served again straight away. Nobody else has a chance of getting served. The seats should all be removed it’s not fair on people. Now to the food. In the main restaurant I can’t complain. But In the ocean view cafe the food was always cold. I got told they replace it every 4 hours which is a very long time. Breakfast was the worst. Stone cold beans everyday. Then I kept getting them blue glasses which were sometimes filthy, with one day having yogurt all over the rim of the glass. Again it felt like a 3 star holiday resort. Then we got ripped off with the shuttle buses. $20 each to Marseille. The cruise made it sound like a super long way. On the evening paper it said 30 minutes drive. Well it was 10-15 minutes. What made this even worse was outside next to the shuttle bus we paid for. Was a free of charge shuttle bus! The absolute cheek of them to do this! It cost us $80 for 4 people. When you pay £8000 for a holiday you expect not to keep getting robbed. Then the amount of times the waiters and supervisors tried to get us to pay for the more expensive restaurants or to upgrade our drinks package. They truly have got you when you are on board. Then teenagers seemed to be everywhere and were really annoying. Never with any parents just in gangs taking up large areas of the ship. You had no chance of having a sit down in the hideaway. Even at 1am in the morning they were still swarming around causing bother to people. The women who sing on deck 3 must have a very small catalogue of songs. They sung the same songs every night it was so repetitive. Then on ‘rock night’ she did about 2 rock songs then went back to the other repetitive ones. I won’t be cruising with celebrity again, I feel like I had the wool pulled over my eyes on how great it would be. Again it’s not all bad, but not getting served and my incident at the bar really got to me, and I had enough at that point of the whole thing and just wanted to go home. Too many people. Read Less

We don’t normally cruise during school holidays but did so after making a fairly late booking following the lifting of travel restrictions for my wife following a medical condition. I have to say, we won’t be booking in school holidays again. The ship was very crowded with I believe record numbers on board and it did have a detrimental effect in some areas, especially if you wanted a sunbed, and you didn’t mind being packed like sardines. Contrary to some reviews, we didn’t experience any problems with the youngsters except for the odd shenanagins with the lifts, if fact the ones we spoke to were very polite. We found the food onboard perfectly fine, with a huge selection in the buffet. The main dining room was ok, the portions were not too big, but you could always ask for more. We found drinks very expensive, but luckily for us we had an inclusive drinks package with our booking which saved us money big time. Entertainment was hit & miss, they had some good comedians, Jon Courtney being the highlight, but they had a truly dreadful one, I think he had come straight from the Apollo Theatre, and one of a long line of unfunny comedians of that ilk. Excursions were truly expensive, our advice is to do your own thing, you will save pounds. As for the shuttle prices, they really are a rip off. Having said all that, we enjoyed our cruise, our cabin was fine and the staff are brilliant. Embarkation and disembarkation are the best we have encountered on any cruise line. We will sail with Celebrity again but out of school holidays. Read Less

Let me start by saying that we booked this cruise last minute due to a bereavement, we had initially been looking at Indepence of the seas but weren't able to get a space as we left it too late, so thought we would try Celebrity. We werent disappointed. We knew we were booking in school hols, we knew it would likely be busy, there would be queues, lack of loungers, perhaps the odd feral kid here and there. We werent phased by this as we had previously been during this time with royal Caribbean and experienced all of the above and still had a great time. First impressions of the ship were great. I felt it was very classy, spotlessly clean, friendly and polite staff. I found the layout a little strange as I had maybe expected the central atrium to be a little larger. We were in cabin 6303 and 6301, cabin was more than adequate, very spacious and great balcony. The curtains I hope will be replaced during the refurb as there were a few little holes in them, nothing major. Our cabin attendant Frazer couldn't do enough for us, we learnt he had been working with celebrity for 20 years. We had an issue with flooding in one of the cabins one day, a quick phone call and an engineer was there within minutes and issue sorted. Our cabin was quiet, and in a great area for us. The balcony was obstructed, we were told this in advance and advised that the obstruction was that we would not be able to ,oom directly down to the sea but could look out, it was absolutely fine. During to the late booking we were assigned dining time of 8.30, we had a table of 4 which was fine, our servers were great, our assistant waiter Martin was so very lovely, always had a smile. The food was hands down better than Royal, although there were a couple of meals that came out lukewarm. We didn't do any specialty restaurants, though they all looked good, we werent give the hard sell either. Entertainment I felt was a little lacking, there were some really good shows, most of these provided by silhouettes own singers and dancers, some of the third entertainment was awful. We particularly enjoyed the hypnotist, but wondered why he wasn't put on in the evening? The second comedian should give up, he wasn't funny and i cringed the whole way through his act, the funniest thing abou him, was watching him run up the gangplank and almost missing the ship. Whilst cruise director was very visible-I dont think the lady stops working! - I would like to see more variety as I felt there was too many singing acts on. Our daughter was cruising with us, this being her 6th cruise, and being 15 years of age, she knows how to behave and how we expect her to behave. After a horrendous experience last year on Royal we were apprehensive as was she, as to whether she would make friends and have a good time. We didn't need to worry, she made a lovely group of friends, one girl in particular. The youth counsellors seemed to organise lots of activities, and our daughter had a great time, she wasnnt roaming round the ship at all hours, she had a curfew of midnight and was generally in before this each night, if she wasn't with us, I knew where she was each night. I do know there were lots of kids onboard, but we honestly never experienced any of the bad goings on that others saw, obviously we struck lucky. I would be mortified if my daughter behaved as I've heard others did. All in all we enjoyed our cruise, so much so we booked again for next year- though not in school hols!! Read Less

I chose Celebrity because we had sailed on the Eclipse two years ago and then Royal Caribbean’s Independence last year and felt that Celebrity was the better option. But I think they have got complacent and it seems to have extended to the bar staff who need a serious lesson in customer service. The bar service, particularly in the Sky Lounge was appalling, rarely a smile or any eye contact at all....perhaps it was being reserved for Premium package customers...! Entertainment poor by comparison with previous cruises. Theatre group had a couple of decent shows but the ‘Cabaret’ acts were poor....particularly when you consider the cost of this cruise. There was a reasonable Phil Collins tribute (although why he felt the need to keep doing the splits was somewhat bewildering) and a comedian, Jon Courtenay, was the highlight. The rest was forgettable. The last comedian had taken 36 hours to get to the boat....and spent the first 20 minutes of his act telling us all about it...he needn’t have bothered....he died on his backside. Dining was good...but let down again by lack of drinks waiters in Sea View....and just lack of availability in main dining room, particularly for ‘anytime’ diners. Big shout must go to John, our Cabin attendant, who was outstanding and also Tessa, a waitress in the main Theatre. Both could teach the bar staff a thing or two about customer service. It actually seemed that the staff in the lower paid positions actually offered the best service.....maybe when they get to Bar Staff they are encouraged to turn their smile off...! The stop offs were mostly good; we made our own arrangements for each one because of the extortionate prices of the onboard excursions. Shame they only had one ‘pool party’ which was in Barcelona because we stayed on till later. The sonly rice would have to improve considerably if I were to consider Celebrity again, particularly in view of the prices of the 2020 cruises....particularly on the new boats. Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary paying full price at the start of the year, first time ever cruising so expected to be wowed! Our room is clean and comfortable and we have no complaints there. The main pool area is in my mind ‘Benidorm on Sea’ loud, packed like sardines next to each other and with children dominating the very small pool. People reserving beds. We have resulted in either sitting in a chair on the back deck or lying uncomfortably on the grass. I did make a complaint about this but I did not receive any further correspondence. Food is excellent, large choice offered with choice of self service and formal dining. However all meals are warm only not hot as they should be. Some fellow passengers do not make an effort to dress for dinner which is disappointing and not as expected on a higher calibre of cruising company. Frustrating to know that some passengers have paid half the price we have during sale periods and that children are free. Evening entertainment is good in the main stage area however late evening disco/band for over 25’s is non existent apart from a silent disco, great fun but finishes way too early. First day on board we joined a guided tour of the ship to be told the Silhouette is having a full refurb at the end of the year. It does look tired in some areas. Read Less
