We chose this cruise because of the embarkation port, ports of call and cost. the total cost was $5,122.00 for 2 people in a veranda room with insurance and air fare from boston to rome. celebrity was offering $1,000.00 off the air fare in this booking. we booked the cruise through vacations to go and also received a $200.00 on board credit. we have made over 35 cruises, 16 with celebrity. the food, service. Ship and itinerary met all our expectations and the standards we expect from celebrity. the tour of taormina in sicily was excellent. we took the transfer only and toured on our own. we took the same type of tour to cassis, near marseilles, france. this tour was to far and only allowed about 1 hour to tour he town. there were some minor items to note and one major item. Celebrity offers to mail luggage tags if requested on their web site. we requested them on the last 4 cruises we took with them but they never arrive. we have to print the one in the cruise book you can download from their site. the main problem with this is that the printing is on plain paper. they can't even hold up from the dock to ship. 50% of our bags had to claimed at guest services because the tags ripped off. better to have porter make out a tag at the dock. Be aware of a nuisance that now occurs in the life boat drill. if you get assigned to the theater, some one in their wisdom decided that we need to be treated like children when leaving. they make you sit in your chair and dismiss you by calling out rows starting from the front of the theater. this created an angry scene on our cruise. The center section was held in place but the side sections weren't. the poor staff took so much verbal abuse that they backed off a third of the way through the process. The captains club elite cocktail period doesn't accommodate late seating diners. it runs from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. the whole purpose for the late seating is so you can enjoy more of your day before having to get ready for the evening. this earned perk should run until at least 8:15 pm. The reason for my low rating is the casino. a major part of my evening after my wife goes back to the room is playing black jack in the casino. celebrity has installed automatic card shuffling machines on all but their $50 and $100 minimum and single deck tables. these are the machines that a dealer picks up each hand and puts the cards in the machine. there is no shoe and thus no beginning and end to a good or bad shoe. i have made a lot of friends while talking during shuffling time. i've learned a lot about the dealers, their homes and things to do in port while talking to the dealers. they have essentially relegated the table game to a slot machine with a person handing out and picking up cards. if you think it doesn't matter, ask youself why they don't do it on the $50 and $100 minimum tables. the reason is that experienced players won't play with that machine on the table. i stopped cruising princess years ago when they did this. i will now try to avoid celebrity when ever possible and will not play in their casinos if i'm on their ships. Our trip started in Rome a few days before we were going to sail away. We stayed at Hotel Eden, highly recommend it. Great location, great spacious rooms and bathrooms as well. We hired a private tour guide Co., "Driver in Rome" and they took care of picking us at the airport, transfer to the port, setup sights in Rome. Highly recommend this Company, they are a one stop shop. Luxury cars/van, drivers speak very good English and know they sights. Cost was very reasonable as well. They even accommodated us once we got back from our cruise and took us to Florence and dropped us off at our Hotel and then the next day they picked us up and took us to the airport. Extremely dependable. The embarking/disembarking on the Silhouette was very smooth, no lines, our luggage made it to our state room within 1 hour after we got onboard. Also when we disembarked it took a total of 25 minutes, which included getting our luggage going through customs and getting on our way. Great job Celebrity. Now we were a little disappointed with The Silhouette since we had sailed prior with Celebrity Reflection. Food, entertainment, spa and staff is a lot better on the REFLECTION. We probably will not sail with the Silhouette again.   Read Less

First impressions were that the ship was well designed with an attractive atrium. The staff without exception were friendly and professional. The decor was in good condition. The quality of the food in the buffet and the main dining room was very good. The first evening show for us after second sitting dinner was of high standard.  However subsequent shows were timed badly for our dining arrangements. They were scheduled at 7pm and 9:30pm At the former we were making ready for the evening and at the latter we were dining. So missed all of the rest, which was disappointing. Pre dinner performances of the house band Soul were most enjoyable and included some strong singers and musicians.  The itinerary was interesting and varied with wide range of excursions.  Our main criticism was the cost of alcohol which was made worse with the addition of 15% gratuity on every drink.   Read Less

A beautifully appointed ship, clean, glamorous, trendy, quirky; just don't expectsmiles from the staff or a quick drink. My wife and I cruised on the Silhouette as part of a 39 day Mediterranean adventure to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary, in Sept. 2013. This was our tenth cruise but our first on Celebrity. Initial impression: From bag drop off to sipping a glass of sparkling wine on board took less than 20 minutes, very impressive! Our bags were delivered after 2 hours and our partially obscured balcony cabin towards tge aft on the Starboard side of deck six was well appointed and quite spacious. The storage space above the bed made good use of dead space and was very handy. Like many on this cruise we had taken afvantage of the 123 promotion and availed ourselves of the free drinks package, paying the additional USD240, we upgraded to the platinum package (all drinks up to $ 12 a glass included). In theory this sounded great, in reality however, not so. Drink package downside: (I) prior to 5 pm to get a drink you needed to go poolside to find an open bar, intermittently the bar on deck 3 would also be open. Even during the trivia sessions, the hosting bar remained closed. (ii) limited no. of bar staff meant lengthy waits when one did find an open bar. For example, the one bar that serviced the ENTIRE buffet, was staffed by only one bartender, regardless of the time of day. (iii) drink service was almost non existent, 2 drink staff service the entire bottom level of the theater during shows, not once were we offered poolside service. (iv) limited wines available by the glass. Restaurants The quality of food at the main restaurant was very good but the menu was dissapointingly uninspiring. To be travelling on such a beautiful ship through regions famous for quality food, and yet be served 'meat and potato' style dishes was a disappointment. The dessert menu was the worst of all, very limited and little daily change. A cynical cruiser might suspect that this is an attempt to promote fee per dining bookings invthe speciality restaurants. A note on table settings: My wife is coordinator of hospitality studies at a Catholic College and as such notices particulars. Very seldom were we seated in the main restaurant to find a fully laid table, the absent items seemed to be absent at random and varied from cutlery, to glassware, napkins and cruet sets. We often found ourselves devoid of teaspoons, and resorted to using knives after waiting up to 5 minutes for one to appear upon request. Specialty restaurants: The quality of food and service at these is exceptional and indeed what one should expect in general on a 5 star line. The additional cost of up to $ 50 pp (compared to $ 20 on RCL) was somewhat extravagant. We did learn however that an early booking at 6 pm afforded one a 50% discount. Murano- quality French inspired menu with at table preparation Qsine - quirky tapes style plates (skip lunch before this one) Tuscan grill - definitely our pick, fantastic service, outstanding menu, and a panoramic view of the ship's wake. With 10 ports of call in 12nights, this is an adventure cruise more than a vacation, be prepared to book early morning wake up calls (our tip is to book breakfast on your balcony for these mornings). All in all, Sillhouette was a dissapointment. Read Less
