The ship was beautiful, all the crew were as nice as they could be. Everyone was very pleasant and tried to attend to our every need. Also, the ship was meticulously clean. They were constantly cleaning and the hand sanitizers were everywhere. The entertainment was great. We chose to upgrade to aqua blue class because one of our party had chosen that before and loved the special blu restaurant and said the food was incredible. I must say, the waiters were absolutely as nice as they could be but------------------- What a disappointment------the food selection was very limited and in my opinion, not that good. We elected to eat in the specialty restaurants 4 times and the buffet 3 nights(they were excellent). For the extra cost of the blu class---we could have eaten in the specialty restaurants every night and still saved. My suggestion-----skip blue, if you wish book some specialty restaurants---if not---save the extra money--- Read Less

Booked this cruise as we got a great deal on a Celebrity Suite and was looking forward to the WOW factor. It was the 12 night sailing from Rome to the Greek Islands and Israel in late October. The check in was very smooth and being in a higher level suite we were met at portside and escorted to the Michaels club to have a drink. This started of the cruise very well. Got to our room Suite 1110 and was slightly disappointed as based on past cruises the SKY Suite is actually bigger. Seems like they have tried to cram a lot in a small space. We were on the HUMP so the balcony was much bigger but what a waste of space. We had one comfy lounger and a small round table with 2 chairs. So much wasted space... Everything on the ship is ow an extra. We were bombarded with this package and that package by the staff to try and make the cruise better but I only see Celebrity getting any benefit as everything is so expensive. We had a drinks package which helped but if we wanted a better class of wine, beer or even a cocktail then another 7 bucks was added to the bill. If you have never been in Michael's club then don't get too excited. On this ship it was next to Murano and inside the room it is very dark as there are no windows. The atmosphere is not great either. We started eating in Luminae but after many complaints, not just from us, we moved to the Blu Restaurant which was much better and we ate there for the rest of the cruise. We did complain but nobody came to talk to us about it. Entertainment was OK and it was what I expect on a cruise ship. You just have to go with the flow and go along to the theatre. The Officers seemed to be keeping themselves to themselves. I can honestly say that I seen the Captain once the whole cruise and did not see many other officers either unless they were having coffee in the Coffee bar. We were ken to see Israel as we had never been there before. The country is stunning but like all cruise ships arriving at a small port there are line and lines everywhere. We had booked excursions for 3 days but after 11 hours on the first day we decided it was enough. When getting off in Israel you have to go through Customs and this took ages as you can expect with over 3,000 people trying to get off the ship. We cancelled the other excursions and did our own thing. I am trying to say something really positive about the cruise but are struggling. We have been on the Celebrity Eclipse and Celebrity Reflection and they just seemed better organised ships. As many off you are Elite members and above, you expect to be treated well but we are also Diamond Plus with Royal Caribbean so our next cruise is April next year on the New Symphony of the Seas. The guest performers were all British and did not rise to the level of American performers. The production shows were good but not exceptional. The food was good but nothing exceptional. The Lawn Grill restaurant did in fact provide for an outstanding experiece. All the employees were friendly and smiled at the guests which is what one would expect. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. This ship is suppose to be an upgrade in the Royal Caribbean family, but seems to lack the premium tag. Our veranda stateroom was adequate although it seemed a little tight. The Sky Suites were very spacious. The inside cabins were also spacious. It seemed that the children on board were well taken care of by the staff devoted to them. The activities staff were excellent even though there were only 2 hosts on board. They, with the activities manager, worked extremely long hours and provided many and varied activities for those so inclined to participate. This was the 3rd voyage on this ship and I would do it again if the itinerary was compelling. Read Less

We love the ship. The Silhouette is spectacular. However, for this cruise, the service was very poor. (Except for our cabin attendant who was excellent!) The glasses and silverware were always a mess. The Captains Club events were a mess. The Captains Club host was impossible. We have been "Elite" Captains Club members for quite some time and this is a first to have a Captains Club host who was a total waste of time. Generally they are excellent. Just to give you one example; we asked her if she would make dinner reservations for us. First she complained. (Really?!?) "Wow! So much for that," we thought. The next night at the Captains Club lounge, she told us she did make reservations for us. "Thanks!!" We went to dinner and - she had not made reservations at all!! Wow. What was the purpose of the lie?!? The excursions were mostly quite good except one. "Sharon Pelleg," in Israel would take passages of scripture out of context and mock the Christians, mock the Jews, mock the Muslims..... Really? I think she was just mad at the world. Then, to top it off, she was defiant to the ship. We were due back to the ship at 5:00. The ship was to sail at 5:30. At 5:15 the ship called her to ask where she was. She told them she was 5 minutes away. Ha! We had waze running and we were almost a half hour out. Yes - We arrived back at the ship well after the ship was due to pull out! This was a back to back cruise for us with the next leg across the Atlantic. We have cruised over 30 times and recognize that every ship has its good days and its bad days. That's life. However, the service and the atmosphere on this cruise was so bad that we have canceled our next Celebrity cruise. We have no desire to cruise Celebrity again. Sorry folks. It's been great. But, bye, bye. The good news was - we did get lots of great photos and we are very glad we visited Greece and Israel! Read Less

We chose this cruise because I wanted to visit Israel and because we like the Solstice ships. We had a normal standard balcony room, perfectly fine, great view towards the rear of the ship and we were lucky to be on the side of the port most days when we docked so that was interesting. Our room attendant Gede was just the best, nothing was too much trouble, he was quiet, discrete and the room was impeccably cleaned every day. Entertainment Over the years we have seen a decline in the entertainment on the celebrity ships. This was no exception. Sue seemed to have a great following and to be honest she was loud and cheery and clear so most people could understand her, what more would you need. We loved the 4 Opera singers and the 2 female and one male singing entertainers but did not like the 2 cast shows, very poor indeed, what the Pearl thing was all about I have no idea, the first time we have ever left a show after 20 minutes in 8 cruises, it was diabolical. It wasn't the worst though, by far the worst was the magician. i don't know if it was because we were sitting more side on but this guy had me knowing how each trick was done well in advance of the end, i have never been so bored, i couldn't believe it was so bad. Conversely the 4 soul Dudes were the best I have ever seen on board and we liked them so much we went to the show twice, a first for us. In the main foyer next to the passport bar there is usually a good contemporary singer around 6-7 when we are there, the one they had on this cruise we didn't like at all. Sometimes we had to listen very hard to what she was singing as she had a dreadful habit of slurring her words, it was almost as if she was trying to sing jazz in a late night club at 2am after a bottle of scotch? But the worst entertainers by far were the 2 DJs Skyla and someone? They could empty a room, completely oblivious to the needs of an audience, twice on the sunset bar on a lovely lazy afternoon chatting with friends they would come up and ramp up some hideous tunes, drown out everyones conversation and just laugh and joke among themselves, as I looked round...no-one was listening to the music but now people had resorted to shouting above the noise. They weren't even good DJs in that they couldn't move seamlessly from one song to the next, they either cut off a song half way through or there was an embarrassing pause between songs, they also did this twice in the foyer but worse was to come when Skyla decided to sing along to some of the tunes, this was beyond bad, like a cat being tortured, and her playing of the flute whilst probably good had no place in this contemporary music. We loved the silent disco but sadly this was only on 2 nights of 12, with a meet and greet for under 21s most nights of which there were about 5, i hope this catches on and becomes more popular I loved most nights in the sky lounge late dancing, the DJ here was very good but on halloween night the show dancers came up to the lounge off duty, completely took over the dance floor flinging themselves around and basically forcing guests off the dance floor, one of them hit me very hard whilst showing off a leg kick, within 10 minutes my friends and I had left, night enjoyed but abruptly ended. We organised private tours and did not use any from the ship but all the ports we visited we enjoyed very much Food We were blown away by the breakfasts and lunches in the main Seaview Cafe, best we have had on any ship, the choices are amazing and the quality so good. loved loved loved the curries. Were it not for the fact I love dressing up and using the dining room I would eat here all the time. Dining room We ate all bar one night in the dining room but something has to change here. Im not a big fan of the add on sales to boost peoples average spend in the fancy restaurants, you are paying for quality food and service already, however we did have a special anniversary so we went to the Murano and it was the best meal we have had in years. But the dining room was half empty most nights and the atmosphere was just flat! One of our real joys of cruising has been meeting people on our tables and we are to this day still meeting with people all over the world we have enjoyed the cruise with. The fact that 2 sitting are worked around the theatre shows has always worked, we eat late so go to the early theatre, time for a quick drink and then dinner, we like routine, we like to dine with the same people and like our waiters to know our preferences. Select dining has ruined this. We were on a table for 10, 2 didn't show up any night at all, 4 disappeared after 2 nights to select dining and that left 4 of us each night on a huge oval table huddled up one end that just didn't work, wait staff have no idea if they have gone to select dining or where they are so can't make the tables any smaller. Select dining in my opinion is killing the classy side of cruising, you may as well all go and eat in the cafe. This also has a knock on effect in the theatre with people coming and going at all times off for dinner, distracting performers and guests alike, it just doesn't work. Some people we made friends with on the cruise went to select dining every night at 6.30, so why not just go to the first sitting, it made no sense to me at all. A half empty dining room results in less animated guests and disinterested wait staff, they are not stimulated. Embarkation took 10 mins and disembarkation took 10 minutes, the fasted we have ever had, well done team! Overall we love the Solstice style ships and will continue to use celebrity but i hope they sort out their dining options Read Less

We really chose this cruise for 2 reasons: 1. it stayed a total of 3 days in Israel, rather than 2, as many others do ; 2. Celebrity does an excellent job of cultural/educational lectures on a daily basis. Both of the lectors were excellent and well-prepared. In addition, the shore excursion lectures were informative, helpful , and interesting, not just meant to sell us another excursion, as on many other cruise lines. My best advice would be to check the CruiseCritic posts for Israel shore excursions you can set up for yourself, rather than do those with the Celebrity large bus tours. We could not have been happier with our guide Moshe Kally (Cally?)(he's on Facebook), from GTI, Guided Tours Israel. Rather than doing their small group tour of 8 up to 16 maximum, we asked for a price for a guaranteed 8 people. It was worth the extra money (not much, considering this might be a once in a lifetime experience, and all time wasted is so precious), to be comfortable in a van with only 4 couples, good AC, able to hear/understand the guide talk and keep up with him walking, etc. Activities: Celebrity should have more aerobic type activities for seniors, as well as their excellent fitness room. It's a shame to charge for yoga, dance, etc., when we have already paid a fairly good price for the ticket, but it seems that's the custom now on all the lines. Cabins, beds (mattress is good, not too soft for those of us with back problems) is fine, service and food excellent, loved the buffet. Embarkation best ever. Read Less

Wonderful itinerary. This was our 4th cruise on the Silhouette and the experiences are consistently excellent. Entertainment and food was excellent. The food in the main dining room was so good that we decided to bypass the specialty restaurants. However, portions are very small. The lobster tail dinner consisted of one lobster tail. However, more were available if requested. Any time dining was great . No waiting. Our waiter Francisco and assistant Putu were outstanding. Our room attendant Neideson was one of the best we’ve ever had. Production shows were good. Outside entertainers were excellent, as as our cruise director Sue. The ship is getting a little tired looking and should probably be refurbished in the next few years. All in all, this cruise was wonderful. The embarkation was very quick. We were on the ship within 5 minutes of our arrival. Debarkation was also very quick and organized. We will definitely be back. Read Less

This was my 7th Celebrity X cruise and it certainly comes in 7th in terms of satisfaction. It is our first time on Celebrity Silhouette. The ship itself is in reasonable condition with the obvious signs of wear and tear, however having threadbare sofa's and upholstery absent from staterooms leave a very poor sight. Old carpets need to be installed asap. The itinerary was Israel and the Med for a 12 night cruise. The main dining room the Cuvee really did disappoint with poor food and equally poor service from day 1 and it continued for 3 nights till having had a disagreement with the chef over the quality of the leg of lamb a table move was required by all members of the table not just my wife and I. On speaking to the chef who came to my table not once did he apologise for the poor quality of the lamb which was totally inedible and so full of fat it wasn't fit to put on a plate and serve it to a paying customer. The chef was in my opinion not bothered about the matter and treated me with contempt, I do add that I never once raised my voice I was very polite and told him that his service to me wasn't acceptable and certainly he had let down the company who do strive on calling it 5* service. What was served to me was not fit to put in front of a paying customer. A table move was taken due to the staff continually watching over us when our food was delivered to the table, it may sound trivial but it was intimidating. Chimpanzee's tea party. Having moved to a new area of the Cuvee we were treated very well by the waiters and the manager who twice provided us with a special lamb chop meal. It softened the blow but left a bad taste with us. The ocean view café let it self down especially in the meat areas again, the carvery served beef 70% of the days which was again tough to chew and not really good enough but also on other days where Turkey/Pork/Lamb was on the menu to be given ONE small cut of meat is just not on and to do an "Oliver" and ask for more was treated with scorn from the chef cutting the joint. We paid an awful lot of money for this trip and being given paltry slices of meat is unacceptable. I rarely if ever use Celebrity's excursions as they appear to be very expensive but with the security in mind we booked to go on the half day trip to Bethlehem which cost $135 per person. Now I didn't know what to expect but to sit on a coach for 90 minutes each way, stand in a queue for 2 hours to see the birthplace of Jesus and get to see it for a least 1 minute then return to the ship. No refreshments or food were provided although a toilet stop was made on the outward journey where water and other foods could be purchased, in terms of value I would give the excursion a massive 1/10 it was daylight robbery. It didn't help when others on the trip from other coaches were so rude when trying to get to the front of the queue, I'm sure anyone reading this review has suffered at the hands of these ignorant selfish people and not said anything... People who were near me definitely heard me telling them that this is a queue and your not getting passed me, oh and one of these people was the actual tour guide (Palestinian) not the Israeli guide. The Celebrity X theatrical shows I always watch and was amazed to watch the production of 'PEARL' it was absolutely awful and not up to scratch, the other two shows were decidedly average. The other evening shows were again a mixture of good average and poor. Particulary enjoyed Jayne Curry, The Joe Cocker voice, The USA comedian... Sue Denning works her socks off and a well done Sue award .... Bar staff throughout the ship were excellent and the majority of the waiters were first class, the ships officers were totally the opposite and appeared to be sullen and moody. Special mention to the staff who work the toilets, what a pleasant bunch of people doing the job most would run away from... always smiling and being pleasant. I wont mention the dirty so and so's who never wash their hands leaving the toilets and then by passing the hand cleaning staff... How inconsiderate are these people? First cruise I've ever had to ask the stateroom boy to replenish us with soap and shampoo and leaving us with only one towel on one day. May sound like I never enjoyed one minute of the cruise but I did, we met some really fantastic people who also told me that they thought Celebrity were letting standards drop alarmingly and were upset that OUR favourite cruise liners were rapidly dropping to this poor unacceptable standards. My final paragraph will I'm sure raise an eyebrow or two ....... and believe me you had to be there to see it and witness the inappropriate behaviour in the Sky lounge on several occasions where I had to witness the groping of some couples where I find it quite disturbing to see them rubbing their hands in the genital areas of their dancing partners ? but come on guys leave it out please... Not nice to see any sexual activity on the dance floor ? Or am I being old school ? Whatever I didn't find it acceptable.. I'm booked already to sail with Celebrity over the Christmas period.... lets hope the standards have not dropped any lower Read Less

Had only been on Millenium class previously and they were older dated ships. The Silhouette changed all my previous ideas about Celebrity. Silhouette is bright, roomy, larger cabins and outstanding food. The buffet restaurant was very spacious, open and airy. Very seldom did it appear like the restaurant was full. Dining room seemed a little cramped but the service was great. Ports of call were fantastic encompassing the Mediterranean, Israel and the Greek Isles. Celebrity apparently is doing away with there three perk offers November 1 so we were glad that we got in on three perks - drinks, gratuities, and shipboard credit. We purchased unlimited Internet which seems high for 12 days - $299 but it's nice to not have to worry about minutes since the connection often can be very slow and just signing in and out can eat up precious minutes. The shipboard credit actually covered the internet cost. Read Less

The entertainment was good the production shows were my least favorite on Celebrity. Jayne Curry was a great headline entertainer and Sue cruise director was very funny. We booked our land tours with See Amalfi coast in Naples and went on Amalfi coast drive to Ravelo, Posatano, and Amalfi and was very impressed. For Israel used Guided Tours Israel and Leo was very helpful in booking excursions. Small vans were great for getting to drop off locations so didn't have far walks. Our guide was Johanna and she was EXCELLENT. Venice private guide was with Fiona and she was very good. I would highly recommend the Celebrity Silhouette for any future cruises. We chose this cruise mainly because Celebrity stayed 3 days in Israel, offered a good itinerary at a decent price considering the superior level of entertainment, service and food. Second reason for choosing Celebrity: we love their lecture programs that are historical, cultural, or just useful (shore excursions). Both of their lectors on this cruise were top-notch. On sea days there were 2 lectures a day; or more, if you count the shore excursion lectures , which were also worth going to. The Director was honest and helpful, not just trying to sell, but inform and serve. Our 3 days in Israel were the tours of a lifetime with Yossi Kally. You can Google him. He attended a USA college, spoke excellent English, very intelligent, personable, knowledgable . What else could you ask for in a guide? He did a Christian tour with us, but I'm sure he could also do a Jewish tour without a problem. We had Aqua class: Blu restaurant and its servers and hostess, Marie, couldn't have been better. Our favorite server was Ever, as she was efficient and could get us to the early show (7PM), provided we came to dinner by 5:45PM , and warned her. She was truly wonderful! The Maitre d' was also helpful, getting my husband spaghetti one night, instead of the superb gourmet dinners. We went to the main dining room once, which was also fine. Surprisingly enough, with all those good choices, we often went to the buffet. It was excellent, with a good variety of foods, lots of veggies, salads, meats, fish, oriental. The desserts were the best we have had on any of the 15 cruises we have taken on 9 different lines. They must buy a better quality of chocolate and/or have better cooks. What a difference! This ship even has good sugar-free cookies, as well as several excellent sugar-filled ones. Entertainment: 3-4 nights were the BEST comedians and singer you can imagine, 3-4 nights average, 3-4 nights we didn't go. The entertainment director is talented and great. Our Aqua Class room and bathroom were really big and comfortable. We were also very happy with our steward, Melanios, and how much he helped me with the A/C. Why do ALL the cruise lines set the AC too high until someone complains. Just to save a little money? It only takes a couple degrees lower to make the cabin comfortable. We only took 1 Celebrity shore excursion, which was fine, thankfully not in the usual bus of 40+ people. The Gym/Fitness/Yoga Room was the best we have ever used. The AC was good in the cardio area, but too warm in the stretch area. The cardio machines should have tv's on all the machines, not only on a few. Improvements needed: 1. the disembarkation procedure (I was given 3 different numbers with 3 different calls; sent up and downstairs without elevator with carry-ons twice; the bus loading (over-crowded) was a disaster, though the driver and guide were excellent . Dear Celebrity: Is there any way to warn/help the passengers (or get them to the FCO airport at staggered times, and EARLIER), of the horrible madhouse at FCO, the LONG lines (150 or so unless you were Business or Comfort on Delta). I've never ever seen/suffered anything like this. Security was nothing, just us, then more LONG lines for Passport Control, then nothing again for Customs. Poor AC. Allow at least 2-3 hours, or more. 2. Internet: $299 for 12 days?! This was an all-time first. Many people like us simply didn't buy it (and resented it too). Thanks tho, for the last day's offer: $10 for 20 minutes so passengers could check into their flights. Regardless of criticisms above, this was the best cruise we've ever taken. We will try to take ALL our future cruises on Celebrity, as they did a good to great job on nearly everything. Read Less

Context: fourth Celebrity cruise; third in the Med. Self and wife travelling. Pros: Best service in buffet we've had. Very efficient and friendly. Food up to standard. Good service in MDR, but some meal sizes have got very small - like the lamb main course which had three pieces of leg of land each around 3" x 1". Excellent experiences with Lawn Club Grill, Murano and Tuscan; all with superb food and service. Great itinerary lived up to expectations. Good embarkation and disembarkation. Some great guest entertainers. Cons: Temporary blockage of Ashdod port very badly handled; people queued for almost an hour on deck 3, while booked taxis and buses waited outside. Should have been 2 queues, one for people who KNEW that their taxi/bus had arrived. Also, this wasn't a one-off surprise event; it had been happening through the summer, so no excuse. As many have said, "in house" production shows are poor in comparison with previous ones which used well-known material. Some songs with lamentably weak lyrics Also, female singers very screechy, and not a patch on the men. Also poor in comparison with an impromptu show put on by CD Sue Denning when a guest performer had to back out - an amazing voice! This cruse made me happy to book Celebrity again, as long as price rises come to a halt. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the destination ports (Italy, Israel and Greece). All of our previous cruising experience was on Holland America. Overall, the ship is in great condition and service was as expected, what I didn't like: * Food in dining was sub-par, especially for what we paid. Quality was not good, portions were small - I was surprised they did not have menu and wine options that matched with our destinations - Italy, Israel and Greece. * Drink packages are not worth it, way too expensive. At best, you come out even for what you spend. Only worth it if you want the "pay-up-front and forget about it" benefit. * Entertainment was in the center area and was quite loud. There were not great options if you wanted quiet time during the evening. Personally, I would have loved classical - piano, violin, etc. * Common areas were not as clean as they should have been (around pools especially). Felt like lounge chairs were "well-used" and a bit dirty. What I liked: * Service was very good. The only wait times were at some of the more popular bars early evening before dinner. There was a crush of people and you'd have to wait 5-10 min to get a drink. Other than, that - state rooms were well kept, clean and everyone was very courteous. * Cabin was in good shape. Minor complaint about our back deck - got dirty at times, not sure if that was from soot, or something else. We would read on back and books, ipad had dirt after spending an hour or 2. We were on back - room 8353. * Excursions - favorite excursion by far was the Multi-Day tour in Israel, guide was well-versed. Read Less

We were in a sky suite 2155 which was well positioned at the stern. Butler was not great but room attendant was excellent. Great views and a good balcony to experience the cruise ports. Good sized bathroom. Great shows, food in Luninae, and as always excellent staff. (Sony, Olga in luninae) The only downside was that many of the passengers were very rude arrogant people but hey you can choose your ship but not your Passengers! Upgraded to premium drinks package which was excellent for champagne and pouilly fume. Loved the ship so much we are doing the Baltic’s on it in 2018. Read Less

My wife and I are destinations cruisers. We chose this cruise because it began and ended in Rome, with stops in Naples, Italy; Ashdod, Israel (Jerusalem); Haifa, Israel; Mykonos, Greece; Athens, Greece; and Crete. Embarkation in Rome was not up to UIS standards but certainly manageable from a time stand point. Debarkation was a snap because we had a Rome tour the morning we returned. We enjoyed the ship. It is not "overwhelming" like some of the larger ships. Our cabin was very nice - nothing special when compared to other cabins in its class. Our Cabin Steward, Teddy, was incredible. I called him "the Ghost" because we would step out of our cabin and 10-minutes later Teddy had cleaned everything up. The Oceanview Cafe (buffet) was nicely laid out but the food wasn't what I had remembered on a previous Celebrity cruise - but it was certainly adequate (we rarely ate there). We enjoyed the Specialty Restaurants: My favorite was "Qsine" - I highly recommend this one, it is "Uniquely Unordinary". My second favorite was the "Lawn Club". I also enjoyed the "Tuscan Grille" & "Murano". We didn't eat at "Sushi on Five" because just the mention of sushi and my wife won't eat there. Entertainment was very good - a new show every night. One night that the entertainer didn't make the boat...the Cruise Director was the show. But she did okay. Service was great all over the ship. If you like playing in the casino you'll probably be a little disappointed. There wasn't much action on our cruise. Since it was my first time to all of the ports-of-call we took excursions at each port. Naples: We took NP16 Mt. Vesuvius & Pompeii Hike. I highly recommend this excursion. It is a steep hike up Mt. Vesuvius but well worth it. Ashdod (Day 1): We took AS17 Glorious Jerusalem. I recommend this excursion - but prepare for long lines or take on of Celebrity's small group tours, we will next time. Ashdod (Day 2): We took AS50 Bethlehem Half Day Tour (turned into all day). I recommend this excursion - incredible! Haifa: We took HF16 Nazareth and Galilee - Jesus Ministry. I recommend this excursion. Mykonos: We took MK01, Ancient Delos. Another incredible excursion. Athens: We took PR03, Athens and Cape Sounion. I know I keep repeating myself but I recommend this excursion. Crete: We took IQ10, Real Crete - this is the only excursion that I did not enjoy! Rome: Since we stayed in Rome a couple days after the cruise we took CV94, Vatican Museum, St. Peter's Basilica with a city center drop-off: For the last time, this excursion was incredible plus it got us off the boat early and quickly. We will do this cruise again in 2019 with our sons when the oldest returns from Afghanistan. Read Less

We chose this similar itinerary on two previous occasions, 2012 and 2014. Our intent was to return with friends in 2014, but due to some family tragedy, they had to cancel. Their 2012 experience with food poisoning on an Egypt excursion in 2012 prevented them from seeing Israel. We finally made the connection on this cruise in 2016! A marvelous experience. The ship is maintained very well and they have managed to effect a few changes in eating and drinking venues but maintain the tried and true favorites, like Al Bacio cafe on Level 5 mid-ship where the coffees and teas are fantastic. The staterooms are of good size, though my wife stated they seemed smaller than on our trip in 2012. I explained they were the same size as always, and perhaps the upgrade to an aft corner suite on the 2014 cruise may have skewed her perceptions! Celebrity has tried to enhance the perks for concierge guests since the room sizes for all veranda cabins are essentially the same. They now offer the dining room for embarkation day lunch for concierge class to take the pressure off the Oceanview buffet, which was sorely needed for crowd control. They also assigned one of the specialty restaurants as a disembarkation lounge on this cruise, which was a nice comfortable hassle-free touch. Both boarding events went very smoothly. We did have some dining assignment problems. We had "linked" our friends with dining options having requested a table for four with them. Our first night dining in the Grand Cuvee, however, found our friends at a table for eight and my wife and I at a coveted table for two. It took two days to get it worked out, but this inconvenience was irritating, and never fully explained how this could happen since we each had confirmations from our travel agents. We ended up with excellent wait staff in Lester, Saude, and sommelier, Richard. The food was above average and the presentation so-so, but the staff made it special remembering our preferences to each guest. Our excursion to the Corinth Canal Cruise and Ancient Corinth was pretty good, but the private tour with local guide Shmuel Levy was the best I've ever encountered in Jerusalem. We had six guests and he maneuvered us from site to site very efficiently. Our visit to the Garden Tomb outside the Old City walls was spectacular and was a spiritual experience, being the first people to peer into the empty tomb that day. Three days of excellence and every question answered by this 25 years of experience, guide. I have heard rumors that this itinerary has been reduced for next year to 12 days, which, if it fits our budget, Celebrity may yet see us again for a fourth time. It is a wonderful ship and a wonderful itinerary that I would recommend to anyone wanting to see the Holyland. Read Less

We have taken some cruises with different lines. The positives of cruising on Celebrity Silhouette are many and well described by other reviewers. We would like to point out some possible Improvements. Entertainment In the evening everywhere was playing music. It would have been nice to find quiet areas to drink something and discuss together. Music is a matter of taste. We were missing a bit of classic pieces. The ship has a lot of beautyful rooms, but what is a library without a librarian? Not English native speakers can’t find books. It was a Mediterranean cruise but the focus of the news was pointed to the USA We missed Television programs in German, French or Italian. It’s laudable that between all the entertainment and Activities Celebrity offers creative watercolor painting. Marcie Jan Bronstein creates itinerary-based projects for passengers. I always remember what it means: «Bring the owls to Athens». Culinary Delights We enjoyed the food in the BLU. Marie from Mauritius was very welcoming; it was nice to speak French with her. She knew our preferences by the end of the first night. Gede, the waiter from Bali with his crew made an excellent job. We bought a package for the specialty dining. The evening in the Lawn Club Grill was wonderful and the price is worth it. Best coffee we got in the Café al Bacio, the service is very good. How to make it possible We enjoyed the daily addresses from the bridge gave by Captain Kafetzi. He had a good sense of humor, we learned a lot, even as not native English speakers we couldn’t understand all it was funny. The crew and the staff from the officers down to the lowest levels, are very kind and helpful, and take time to ask how you are. But some employees at guest relation desk should practice her kindness more, so that guests have the feeling of being welcome. One example: In the board are no more Sudoku. Hospitality could be, to print on request one more out. High Service prices Some cruise lines provide in Ashdod a free shuttle service. As you are not allowed to walk in the port, it is disappointing to charge 20$ per day and person for shuttle service. The charge for internet use is very high. The answer given at the guest relation desk, if Celebrity offers an access for 10 Minutes to make the check in for the flight: «There is only the 24 hour package, price 49 $», was not really helpful. We spent the last day at sea, so we had no possibility to go to a Wi-Fi coffee. Valetta We booked only one land tour with Celebrity, on the island panoramic drive in Malta we saw nice places, but there was not enough time to visit it, 20 minutes here and there. It was not really a good value, The Tour guide seemed not to be amused about their job. Mykonos October 28 was Oxi Day, a national holiday and celebration with parades, and flags on the houses. The Greek commemorate with the «NO-Day» that they refused the ultimatum of the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. And so started 1940 the Greek – Italian war. Haifa In October was inaugurated a new ferry connection from Haifa to Acre. The ride takes 45 Minutes and the return price is 55 Shekel. It was a nice experience and we were the only guests from the Silhouette. Leaving back in the afternoon some of the younger Arabic people began to dance in face of the rough sea. Ashdod Our private organized tour to Jerusalem was impressing. What a crowd and traffic. On that Monday they were celebrating Bar Mitzvah, an important path from childhood into manhood. I suppose «Peace» is the most written word in the small papers with a prayer or request wedged into the cracks in the Western Wall. Let’s hope! Katakolon We took the possibility to visit Olympia. Young people invited the crusaders to a trip for only 10 Euro return, the price in the ship is much higher. Vangelis was not only a good driver even a guide and he explained a lot about daily live in Greece. Read Less

Have cruised quite a few times on the Silhouette, but this time there were quite a few differences, some good, some bad. The bad: 1. Holes in the "black out" curtain lining. I had to put small black patches over the holes to stop the light from the promenade deck below shining into my eyes during the night. 2. Shower caps, cotton swabs and ear buds no longer supplied as amenities. They have to be requested. 3. Big productions shows are now done in house. Except for one or two dances, the dancers have a lot to learn about timing - they just don't seem to get it right. 4. Some of the special entertainers are passed their sell by date and have been on the circuit for years. 5. Speciality restaurants and spa marketing - wherever you go, even when trying to eat in the buffet, they bear down upon you (do say though, not as aggressive as on the Reflection where you are made to feel bad if you do not take a package, even resorting to telemarketing). 6. As a vegetarian I am dismayed at the continuous cross contamination of meat/fish with the salads and vegetables. We eat our meals in the buffet. Each and every meal I would see passengers using the same tongs for the meats/fish as for the salads or vegetables alongside at the grill or carvery. What is so difficult in putting the protein to one side, or having the meats on one counter and the vegetables on the next one? 7. Deserts always look fabulous but most of them are hardly worth the calories. 8. Smokers should not be allowed to use the elevators - their stink lingers after they have got out of the elevator. Elevators in any case are not ventilated properly. And as for the cigar smokers, well, really, the time has come to ban them completely. 9. I suggest cabin doors have stickers to tell passengers to CLOSE the door and not let it bang. Most disruptive if you have people coming back to the cabin at all hours of the night. I have learnt that a good cabin is one where you have quiet neighbours - this cruise we were lucky enough to have considerate neighbours on both sides. 10. A disgrace to charge US$20 pp per day for shuttle service from the ship into Ashdod. You are not allowed to walk in the port and the taxis won't take you such a short distance. This was an overnight port, which meant US$80 for two people who want to get off the ship both days. What a rip off. At least in Haifa the port supplied the shuttles free of charge. 11. And of course, the outrageous charge for internet use...... The good: 1. Check in and check out most efficient and quick. 2. Stateroom was kept spotlessly clean. 3. Decent selection of cheeses in the Oceanview at all meals. Indian food always superb. 4. Crew and staff, from the captain down to the lowest level, very friendly and always have time to ask how you are. 5. No smoking in the casino - a pleasure to spend time there. 6. No announcements in the cabin - what a pleasure! 7. Most important of all - smooth seas! Read Less

Nine of us travelled together on this ship and we had an excellent time. After 14 days none of us wanted to go home. Our cabin was 1658 and it was very quiet. We chose this cruise because of the Israel ports. We've been to the Med several times but never stopping in Ashdod or Haifa. This ship had an excellent cruise director and a very funny captain of the ship. The entertainment was the best I've seen on any ship. The dining room food was very good and the staff more than helpful. If you are going to go to Jerusalem and Bethlehem be sure to book your Israel tours with a private tour guide. We used israelprivatetours. I highly suggest that you say one night in Jerusalem at the Harmony Hotel because you get to see Jerusalem in the evening. Walking at night in Jerusalem is very safe. The cruise ship, the staff, the places we visited and the passengers together made this the best cruise I have ever been on and I have sailed on about 10 cruises. Firstly the ship was just the right size so that we met most of the passengers but did not feel overcrowded. About 2,500 people on board. There were enough deckchairs for everyone with some spare. OMG the Captain was the funniest senior Officer I have ever encountered. His 10am 'briefing' to us over the tannoy were hilarious and I actually knew of people getting up early just to hear them on sea days. His sence of humour and fun (actually joining in some of the crew versus passengers) were amazing. The cabin was extremely spacious and the best bathroom regarding space and cupboards I have ever had. I suffer from lactose intolrance and every evening at dinner I was given the next day's menu to choose what I wanted so that the chef could make it possible for me to eat it and boy did I eat it and more The entertainment was terrific especially a Beatles 'look & sound alike' group which had the whole boat singing and dancing with a standing ovation and cries of more at the end, The service was fantastic and the staff terrific. As I said the stops were amazing, Rome (where we started), Naples, Ashdod & Haifa (both in Israel), Kasudasi, Santorini, Athens & Malta - incredible stops. Read Less

Great ship, exceptional service and as a first cruise, overall very enjoyable. Highlights: Very well appointed stateroom with balcony. Very clean and well presented with comfortable bed. Great housekeeper (Idacio?). Plenty of storage. Food - all restaurants operated to a very high standard both in regard of food and service. Least favorite was the main dining room, the Grand Cuvee. They tried hard to sprinkle a bit of magic dust to create a more sophisticated ambience but it was loud, crowded, slightly rushed and food was just ok. The specialty dining restaurants we really liked as these felt like a typical high street restaurant; a bit more intimate and more varied food selections. Yes you pay around £20-£30 per head premium to dine but it offers a nice amount of variety to each night on the ship. We also had a couple of 'down' nights where we used the buffet restaurant; the food up there is so varied and great quality that what it lacked in atmosphere it made up for in having total freedom to choose what you wanted. Entertainment - the ships Entertainment Director worked tirelessly across all manner of functions. He hosted and drove some great party nights (pool party and the masked theme party where exceptional). The theatre shows where fine - a little bit cheesy in places but the gymnast/cirque de soleil elements where the highlight. Didn't like 'Pearl' as it was aimed more at kiddie/family cruise than an adults cruise (although the special effects at the beginning where clever). The Beatles tribute band where excellent and it was the only night every theatre seat was taken. Didn't like the musical theatre soloist - music was to downbeat and boring (although I do like musical theater in general!). Tenors of Rock where also pretty good. Public areas - very high standard of presentation and fixtures/fittings where good quality. The areas with sun beds where 'congested' with sunbeds literally packed in to the extent you couldn't event put your book or drink down next to your bed. Oveall though, clean and good quality. Staff - rarely even a hint of forced politeness with most staff encountered from maintenance people to officers being routinely polite and smiling. Overall, a great trip without any hint of stuffiness. The general crowd was aged mainly 40-60 with most guests up for a good time (most bars and functions in the evening where well attended and rocking). Even though most people where on drinks packages it was quite refreshing to see that most people weren't hammering it from the moment the bar opened and I didn't spot anyone who had obviously overdone it drink wise during the whole trip.
