We chose this cruise to replicate a cruise we did in 2008 which included Alaska. This time we did B2B with the Alaska cruise. The ship was a nice size but was showing some signs of its age. Embarkation at San Diego was very fast and efficient. The cabin was good if a little bit small and the room attendants were very good and friendly. Food on board was good but often Luke warm. Food in the Ocean View buffet was mediocre and the selection did not change much from day to day. Ports of call were good and length if stay was appropriate giving us enough time to do a half day shore trip then a walk around the port. Production shows were very good but the guest entertainers were mediocre at best. Cruise director and her staff were very friendly and approachable. All in all a very good cruise. Read Less

My wife, daughter, and I have been on a dozen plus cruises. Timing and only flying one way were the reasons for booking this cruise. I had read that embarkation in San Diego was not always smooth. We received an e-mail saying our arrival time was 12 noon. We parked in an offsite long term lot and the driver dropped us a little after noon where he always dropped off cruisers. However, no one was there to take our luggage. We had to walk across the drop zone by the parking lot. Then started a 45 minute plus process of walking thru a maze of lines. I never understood what the problem was. But, soon we had mimosas in our hands and we were ready for our adventure. I had read that the dining room would be open for lunch so we went there first. Alas, being Select we were ushered to the buffet as only suite occupants and elites were being served. This was the first of several occurrences (for us) where seats in the theater, tables in the buffet, and dining room locations were reserved. It is nice to have loyalty perks - but I was disappointed. Another disappointment was the buffet. No matter what the time, the buffet was shutting down and closing. And there was little or nothing for midnight munchies. So we ordered room service - but there is now a charge for room service after 11 PM. And there are fewer free choices. I admit I need to lose some pounds, but that was not why I was on this cruise. Further, the Oceanview buffet had the same selection every day and it wasn't very good. Some days I'd settle for pasta or eat a lot of cheeseburgers - often bringing extras into the buffet for my wife and daughter. With so many port days when lunch is not served in the dining room, these were the choices - or head to the cabin for a club sandwich from room service. This was very disappointing. The other disappointment with food was Cafe al Bacio. Don't get me wrong - The food is great: cookies, pies, and cakes. The team behind the counter wanted to focus on making drinks so if the line got too long they'd ask people to sit and wait for the server to ask what they wanted. The servers usually avoided my family and I until we waved ridiculously and hopped in front of them because we wanted the free stuff - cookies, cake, and pies. We didn't want wine or coffee. I guess that means we should get ignored. We had our meals in the main dining room (breakfast and dinner). Our wait staff of Hamza and Ismail were excellent as were our table mates. Always ready with suggestions and they learned of my sweet tooth quickly. Overall, we felt there were fewer menu choices. The menu 80% of the time left you going for one of the everyday items. Thank goodness there was a steak option so my family and I had a lot of that. Hamsa always came over to our table at breakfast to say hello. On every cruise I've been on, at least the Assistant Maitre D' goes through the dining room on the first night to welcome everyone. We had made a special request a few times with our waiter for souffles, a request we were able to get one night on the Celebrity Transatlantic cruise. It was probably the 3rd or 4th night Amir our Asst Maitre D' came over with the pastry chef and said we'd have to go to the specialty restaurant for that. No exceptions. We had also requested cherries jubilee which he said was the next night. Normally in customer service, you follow-up with people. He knew we wanted cherries jubilee and we ordered it so wouldn't you have expected Amir to swing by and ask if we enjoyed it? Shouldn't he have at least said goodbye on the last night? As it turns out, he was the same Maitre D' on the Alaskan cruise we took last year on a Solstice class ship. He was rude then and made our trip miserable. I blame myself for putting up with it then - and I'm disappointed I was unable to retract all his tips from us on this trip - I missed the deadline for that. And the Cherries Jubilee were the worst I have ever tasted to add insult to injury.:). This is a dish that is supposed to have alcohol (brandy, cognac, etc) added then flambéed. While they cant flambé in the dining room, apparently they can't in the kitchen either because there was no alcohol added. It almost tasted like cherries in cough syrup . We had excellent cabin stewards (Winston and Roberto) as well as excellent dining team (Hamza and Ismail). They were always prompt and courteous and engaged in conversation. They'd even make sure the room was ready before we returned from breakfast and the show before dinner. The pool bars on previous cruises had the best burgers, brauts, turkey burgers, etc. But not on the infinity. Burgers, hotdogs, and fries were still available and turkey burgers if you were willing to wait. No brauts. One of the reasons I choose Celebrity is because they pay a little more attention to their jobs for extraordinary service and perks. I like walking around the ship and always see it being worked on (painting, cleaning, repairs, etc) because it means the crew values cleanliness and keeping up its pristine appearance. This was consistent with the Infinity and most of the crew was very friendly. On another line I will never forget the vision of crew in hazmat suits cleaning up messes from ill passengers in the dining room. We saw the Captain at the Captain's Welcome. On some cruises I have found the captain and his senior officers to be very visible. However on this cruise, we rarely saw him or his senior officers. . The backstage tour and wine tasting for captain's club members was also a nice touch. Unfortunately I did not receive an announcement for the Cruise Critic gathering. The celebrity singers and dancers were the best group I have seen. Try to get to their performances. Disembarking in Vancouver was easy to get off of the ship - Only to join a 60 minute plus cab line. We have lived on the west coast for 40 plus years and knew the ports well. However, there is much to see since our visit a few years back. I would have preferred overnighting in Seattle as there are many things to see and do. Even with all the food disappointment, we are still considering booking another cruise. Unfortunately for us Californians, Celebrity doesn't really go out of or return into Los Angeles/San Pedro or San Diego. It is too bad there isn't a roundtrip CA to Hawaii cruise available (just one way cruises). We also considered Panama Canal, but the timing doesn't work. With just a little more attention especially with the food - this would have been a great cruise instead of just a good cruise.:) Read Less

This was our first experience with Celebrity cruises and over all we were very happy with the ship and cruise in general. We were on deck 6 and although our balcony cabin had a restricted view I would be quite happy to have this deck again due to the good deal we were offered. We were happy with the food in Main dining and Buffet and Tuscany Grill and Munaro was a treat which we really enjoyed. Overall the cruise, service and food deserve a good rating , we had a fabulous time and the ship was beautiful. Disemarking at Sydney was well organised, our given time was 9am and we were give a number to wait for our call and all should have gone well. Maybe things did go well for the passengers who disembarked earlier or were in different sections to us. This is where it started to unravel. We were in a comfortable in a sitting area waiting for our 9am call which was late, there were no announcements to advise us of any delays.Our call finally came and passengers started to move to the designated area down to deck 2, I would estimate at least 150 passengers came to a standstill in the narrow passage on deck 2 and were banked up on the steps and landing and in hallways behind us. There was a delay and instead of advising us to go back to the sitting area we were all banked up in this small area for at least 20 minutes. It was a hot morning in Sydney. Some older passengers sat down on the steps, and appeared to be distressed with the heat , it was also claustrophobic . My husband has a heart condition I was very concerned for him, I have no doubt some of the other passengers would also hasve health issues. The situation was just dangerous and should not have happened. I can only hope that Celebrity learn from this experience and see how difficut it may have been if any one had collapsed. It was just a dangerous and unsafe situation to put any passenger in. When we finaly got of the ship our luggage was still not there!. Although although I was happy with the ship and cruise I am very likely to consider another cruise line if I take another cruise. In general I rate most of it a 4 . BUS TRANSFER TO THE PIER We have taken many cruises out of San Francisco, usually with Princess. We usually stay one night at the El Rancho Hotel in Millbrae. The next morning we have the hotel van take us to the airport where we catch the cruise ship bus to the pier. In the past, we have had the same bus driver each time. When we give him out bags, we tell him that we want the two carry-on bags back when we arrive at the pier. He puts them towards the front so he can retrieve them at the pier. The rest of the bags will then be taken to another location where they are unloaded and eventually delivered to our stateroom. The system works great and is very convenient. The driver (we have had the same man on each of our past trips) provides historical and other information about San Francisco during the drive to the pier. He is very knowledgeable about San Francisco. This time the transfer was a disaster. We had a different driver that apparently did not speak English. I told the him that we wanted two bags back when we arrived at the pier and he looked at me like he had no idea what I was talking about. I guessed that he did not speak English and repeated the information. He just grunted and threw the bags in with the rest. When were then told by the greeters that the people who were supposed to be there had a flat tire on the way to the airport and would not be available to help us. They also did not have our names on their list and asked everyone to write their names on a sheet to be checked later. Unfortunately, they waited until we got to the bus to do this and it created a line of unhappy people that wanted to get rolling. At this point, we were also told that we had to take any carry-on bags with us on the bus. This meant that I had to crawl into the storage area of the bus and retrieve our two carry-ons. We have never had to do this before. When we got to the ship, the driver and a helper started to unload all the bags in the parking lot. The passengers told him that he was supposed to take the bags to another location to be loaded on the ship and he just kept unloading them. Finally a greeter showed up that spoke his language and told him what he was supposed to do. He and his helper both expressed surprise as the finally understood what was supposed to be done with the bags. We all left, hoping that our bags would eventually get to our staterooms. Fortunately, they did arrive later that afternoon. CHECK IN The check in process went very smoothly although the man helping us did have some difficulty with his computer. He processed my wife’s information in a minute or two but took several minutes to do mine. The person next to him finally came over and told him how to complete the process and we were on our way. It probably did not take more than 10 minutes. It helps to get there on the first bus from the airport as the lines are not as long as they will be later in the day. CABIN We had stateroom 7047 on deck seven, port side. Being only about 11 AM, our cabin was not ready and we headed for the Ocean view Café for an early lunch. At 1 PM we were allowed to proceed to our staterooms. Everything was in order when we arrived except the stateroom did not have some of the amenities that were shown in the photo at Celebrity’s website. In particular, an entire stand of shelves next to the make-up vanity was missing. Also, the closet had a safe and several drawers taking up one third of the storage area. This left only a small closet for the two of us to hang our clothes, but we had not brought that much so it worked out. Anyone bringing a larger assortment of clothing for a longer cruise would have a difficult time hanging all their items. We noticed the lack of an ice bucket and asked the room attendant about it. She said that ice was no longer furnished in the rooms unless we asked for it. I have to admit that I was stunned by this information as we have always had ice in our stateroom on our other 40+ cruises. My wife asked her to provide ice twice a day and she said she would. She or her assistant provided it most of the time. The vanity had no drawers which did not make my wife happy. She usually depends on having drawers on both sides of the vanity for storage of all her necessary beauty aids. This vanity had doors with very small shelves behind them. It just was not as convenient as other ships we have been on. Strangely, we looked in on an inside cabin and it had the type of vanity that we are used to having. I did not understand why Celebrity would provide more in a less expensive stateroom. The bath was nicely arranged and had the usual large shower that Celebrity is known for. It also had a hand held shower head that we both prefer. There was plenty of storage on a corner rack and under the sink area. The balcony was small but adequate for two of us. FOOD We took most of our meals in the main dining room when they were open. We had what Celebrity calls Select Dining. That allows us to eat dinner whenever we wanted as long as we appeared during the serving hours. The food and service were both excellent in the dining room. I enjoyed all our meals there, but some of our table mates did not. On one night, I had an excellent salmon dinner, but several ladies at our table had veal, lamb and steak. They all had complaints about the quality of those meats. Celebrity is noted for having very good quality beef and we usually have that or fish. I usually don’t try any of the other meats, but did try the chef’s recommendation the first night. It was a breaded pork chop and it was also excellent. The accompanying potatoes and vegetables were usually very good except for the string beans which were always tough. The Ocean view Café on Deck 10 had a very large assortment of ethnic food available at several different places around the very large room. Some of the serving areas had precooked food and others cooked to order. Unfortunately, I found that many of the ethnic foods had too much spice. I like soup and tried several of them. They were all over spiced. The foods that were not over spiced were somewhat tasteless. The deserts in the Ocean view Café were of a quality that was far below what is served in the main dining room. This is not unusual and we have found this to be the case on most ships, however they usually have some good cakes or pies at some point during the cruise. I did not find that to be the case on this cruise. ENTERTAINMENT On our last Celebrity cruise, we found that entertainment had improved somewhat over previous cruises, but it is never on a par with Royal Caribbean even though Celebrity is owned by RC. We had the usual selection of production shows accompanied by one comedian, a magician, two singers and a xylophone player. All except the comedian worked hard and were appreciated by the audience. There were also a couple of acrobats that were very good. PORTS We only took one tour. That was a glass bottom boat in Catalina. The rest of the time we just walked to nearby attractions. In San Diego, we toured the aircraft carrier, Midway, which is docked less than a quarter mile from the cruise ship. In Monterey we waked through the area near the wharf, and then took the free trolley to the aquarium and back. At Santa Barbara, we took the downtown bus from the cruise ship dock to the end of the line on State Street, then toured the Presidio a couple of blocks off State Street. Then we took the downtown bus back to the ship. For seniors, this bus costs 25 cents each way. We had been to these places several times before and had seen most of the local sites. Also, the weather was very hot and the humidity was high, so we wanted to get back to the air conditioned ship as soon as possible. We stayed on the ship in Ensenada, Mexico and about half the passengers did the same. We had to tender into Catalina, Monterey and Santa Barbara, but it was not a problem. Everything went smoothly getting on and off the tenders. CONCLUSION All things considered, it was a very nice cruise. We were looking for a relaxing time at sea after some stressful months at home and we were very satisfied with the experience. My wife’s only complaint was that the cruise was too short. We usually go for two weeks or more so I understand how she feels. It is difficult to get off a cruise ship. Read Less

This was our 8th cruise overall, 7th with Celebrity, all but one on Millennium class. It had been 4 years since our last cruise. We are a couple who is over 55 and under 60. We work hard and a cruise is a luxury expense for us. As you can tell we have very little experience with a different line so a comparison is not possible. We have high expectations when paying for services but that being said we are easy to please and understand when small mistakes happen. We felt the price for this particular cruise was high but it worked into our schedules for work and we liked the idea of getting away for 9 nights. Embarkation at Pier 27 was smooth with no line. We are Elite members so had a special check-in. We looked at the regular check in line and each station was no more than 2-3 deep. We have never seen short lines like this. Because this ship stayed overnight in SF we walked by this area a few times and never saw a long line at any station. Our cruise was part of a 1-2-3 Go promotion that included pre-paid gratuities, classic beverage package, and a $300 onboard credit. Had it not been included on the promotion the beverage package would have been a whopping $55 per person per day! On past cruises our bar bill for the entire cruise for 2 has never exceeded $75. We used the package on this cruise for an after dinner cocktail each evening, bottled water, one glass of wine with dinner one night , and coffee beverages in the Coffee cafe. As we think back on this if we had to purchase these items separately we would most like have only purchased the bottled water, cocktails once or twice and coffee beverages once or twice. This makes the beverage package of no value to us in the future. The pre-paid gratuities are a plus and we used the on board credit for excursions that we would typically have purchased any way. We did enjoy the Coffee cafe. Beverages were excellent and area was clean and generally quiet. Staff was accommodating to our likes regarding drinks. We used this once to twice daily because it was included in our beverage package. There was a nature specialist on board. Not sure I have his name quite right but something like Mikos. His talks were informative, entertaining and easy for the standard person to understand. Do not mistake this as him not being highly knowledgeable. He was extremely intelligent but an excellent teacher and knew how to present complicated topics for general public without it being "dummied down" for those who had some knowledge of the topics. I would not want to miss any talks he would give if on board with him again. We attended the shows each night. The entertainment was enjoyable but not outstanding. On other cruises the Celebrity dancers and singers had a theme that seemed lacking this time. The guest entertainers included a comedian who was ok, a zxylo??? player who was good, a male vocalist who was very enjoyable and a female vocalist who sang 1940 hits that we had never heard before. Entertainment out and about on the ship was ok but not like in the past. Celebrity used to have small instrumental groups and acapella singers that we liked. Not this time. We found it difficult to sit and listen to the singers and usually moved on to a different area to relax. In general we found them a little loud and did not sing music to our liking. We love a balcony cabin and chose one on this cruise. We are questioning this choice and plan to try an inside room or ocean view on the next cruise. We spent most of our time out and about the ship and did not use the balcony for more than an hour or two the entire trip. Towels were thick and not worn, bath amenities included lotion, shower gel, shampoo, cotton balls and swabs, emery board, face soap, body soap, and shower cap. The room in general was up to date and not worn. Everything was in working order. Our cabin steward (Clyde) was awesome. Most of the time we did not see him but his work was evident in our room. When we did need something he seemed to magically appear. He always greeted us by name and with a huge smile! The size of the room was fine and exactly what we expected. The chairs on the balcony were different than we remembered and more comfortable. We have high expectations in the dining room due to past good experiences. Our waiter was efficient and accurate with our orders. He asked our entire table on more than one occasion if there was anything we wanted and if his service was what we expected. The food was good and we enjoyed what we ordered. There was one night when the menu featured Chef at sea that had no appeal to us when reading the items. Once the waiter explained the entrees we decided to follow what others ordered at the table and ordered the flank steak. This was an excellent choice. What I am trying to say here is make sure ask your waiter questions about the menu. We would have passed up a wonderful meal and had something from the menu that is featured everyday. Deserts were good, generally not over sweet and just the right size portions. When talking about portion size, I have read many comments about portions on Celebrity being small. We find the portion size to be consistent with european portions and to be just right. If you want more it is easy to order a double portion. We dined once in Qsine and found it to be enjoyable to do once. It was a whimsical experience but now that we have experienced it, will not do again unless we are trying to spend onboard credit. We also tried Bistro on 5 twice. There is $10 per person surcharge. Our evening table mates had been raving about this for lunch so we were excited to try it. The first time was at the compliments of the Captain and the Captain's club hostess for my husband's birthday. We received a gift card in our room and found this to be a nice touch. We ordered the Beef Stroganoff. The meal was ok. The waiter was not very helpful or attentive. We ordered and it was served. When it came time for dessert we had to ask if there were toppings. We knew about the toppings from our table mates. We left a bit underwhelmed. We tried it a second time at the urging of our tablemates and to use up onboard credit. The second time we ordered a hamburger and a Mediterranean crepe. We waited over an hour for our food. To his credit, the waiter kept checking in with us assuring our order would be coming soon. We were polite and understanding and did not complain at all. Soon the manager came over and told us our order had been lost and he would be comping our meal and offered us wine or drinks as well. After an additional 15 minutes our order came and we enjoyed it but did not find it worth the $10 surcharge if we had been paying for it. In general the Bistro did not seem to be able to handle a full area even with many waiters around. Must have been a problem in the kitchen. We booked 2 excursions through Celebrity. The first was a Muir Woods tour. The tour guide was 1/2 late due to traffic that she did not expect. We are from Colorado and knew that Bart was doing maintenance before we left on our cruise. We find it a bit hard to understand that a tour guide from San Francisco would be so uninformed as to not be able to anticipate and plan for this and arrive on time. The tour was ok and accomplished our goal of seeing the redwoods. The second tour was a dolphin seeing tour at Catalina Island. Unfortunately we did not see any dolphins but truly enjoyed being on the water in a small boat with 6 other people that felt safe and fun. We attended a few of the "cheesy" activities offered by the activities team. We found them humorous to watch. We also attended the 3 classes offered by the watercolor artist. I was impressed with the quality of the beginning kit supplied to use for the classes. This was enjoyable on the sea days to attend. In general we found the ship in good condition for the age of the ship. Disembarkation went well until we got to the pier. We liked being able to be in the Trellis restaurant while waiting for our color to be called and enjoyed this Elite Captains Club perk. When at the dock to pick up our suitcases there seemed to be quite a bit of confusion. We were getting different directions from several different workers. Each one did not seem to know what the other was directing us to do. Confusing but not unmanageable for us, but what about those who are older or less experienced with disembarking? Overall we loved our cruise and will most likely sail with Celebrity again. The perks offered with our Elite Captains Club status are a part of future cruising decisions. I believe this is true of most who seem loyal to the brand. If perks are good you will continue to have us as customers. If they are not or are reduced, we will try other brands. Read Less

Cruise review Celebrity Infinity Sept. 4 to 13, 2015 Let me begin by saying this cruise in many ways met or exceeded our expectations, and was a very nice vacation. We appreciated our more experienced Cruise Critic friends who gave us so many valuable tips before we even began. We have cruised on Crystal, Disney, Princess, and NCL as well as Celebrity, but it has been several years. We felt that it was a privilege to be able to go, and we were happy to be able to make the trip to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Embarkation was a breeze. Directed into San Francisco’s spacious new Pier 27, we walked right up to a Celebrity representative, presented our documents and passports and obtained our Sea Pass cards. Celebrity Infinity’s décor was classy and calming. The itinerary was delightful, the seas were calm, and the captain and crew were very efficient and approachable to guests. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The entertainment was impressive and occasionally surprising. Everywhere surfaces were being constantly cleaned. We did not have to wait for anything; not for a table for dinner, or tenders to shore. There were always plenty of lounges by the pool area with fresh towels. We always had our choice of seats in the theatre for shows, even just before curtain. Our Cruise Director, Patti, was helpful and informative. She was at her best when she performed, as she has a lovely singing voice. Wait staff were polite and professional. The seamen manning the shore tenders knew their business and gave a steady and strong grasp of our elbows getting in and out of the boats. The shore crews greeted us going and coming back with ice water, cold punch, and icy cooling towels. This was especially appreciated because of the very warm weather. It was hotter than expected in every port! Our cabin was Concierge Class 2, a balcony on the starboard side, 8088. It was quiet, having staterooms above and below us, though as we were midship, we did hear some early morning sounds as they opened the hatches and prepared the tenders for launching. This was OK with us; it was interesting to watch the process from our balcony. We liked being close to the ship’s library on deck eight, with cozy chairs for reading. We could not have had better or more attentive stewards than Raphael and his assistant Antonio. The cabin was small, and we had to walk single file around the end of the bed, but the bed was spacious and comfortable. I liked the soft leaf designed night light in the bathroom, the open shelves for our things, and the roomy shower with grab bars. There were built in hooks on the inside of the bathroom door and a set on the cabin wall. There were plenty of wooden hangers in the closet. Raphael surprised us one night with two swan towel animals kissing and red rose petals scattered on our bed! Lovely! Now I would like to give readers, (including Celebrity Corporate), a heads up about things that were upsetting and need to be improved. The first disappointment came moments after we stepped onboard at the shore excursion desk. We had a fixed amount of onboard credit and had budgeted it carefully for excursions, specialty dining, and photography, obtaining the prices from Celebrity’s website. Our Sausalito & Muir Woods tour we expected to pay $69.75 each for, was now $89.75 each. The Avalon Scenic & Botanical Garden price listed on their website was $39.75 each; onboard it became $49.75 each. We went to the concierge desk the following day and asked about the discrepancy. We were told that it was a common complaint and that nothing could be done. Perhaps assertiveness or asking again for clarity of policy for my upcoming online review made an impression, but we were extended the difference of $60.00 in OBC as a, “courtesy.” Another problem that we encountered right away was water. We had the Classic Beverage Package, and were assured many times by Celebrity and our travel agent that it included all water, soft drinks and some alcoholic drinks onboard. We don’t drink, so we already knew that we were not going to cost the ship much with our consumption. We had the stewards clean out the mini bar right away, leaving some ginger ale and bottled water. We asked them to just fill it with liters of water. Imagine how surprised we were when they started leaving checks for each bottle of Evian, $5.50 per bottle, .98 cents gratuity, 48 cents tax, total $6.97 for each bottle! When we objected they sheepishly explained that we would have to get and sign for our water at one of the bars, (liter bottles of Crystal Geyser were covered by the beverage package, Evian delivered to our room was not), and bring it down to our cabin ourselves! Really? This policy is just silly and annoying. It put us on our guard and made us feel that instead of relaxing we had to be checking our bill constantly. We had to request, leave sticky notes, and we tipped extra, to get ice in our bucket every day. So, here is a suggestion: Make money on the casino, art auctions, shops, classes, and spa treatments. Treat your guests graciously and put carafes of ice water in our cabins daily. The most disturbing ongoing problem came with the photography department. I had waited on hold forever pre cruise to get the word from a Celebrity representative what it would cost for the whole photography package: all prints taken, a CD, a written copyright release, and the souvenir DVD of the voyage. We were told it would be $255.00 for everything, and we planned for that, getting our picture taken as often as we could. When we approached the photo people, they claimed that we could definitely NOT get any of the prints, and a CD for that price, and they refused to give us a paper copy release, saying it was unnecessary. They took some wonderful pictures of us; they are good photographers, but we were required to search every night for our pictures in the gallery, and hand them over to them for our “packet.” We got none of these prints. We paid $234.99 for one CD of our pictures and the DVD. All of our prints were left behind and destroyed. I was very sad. So, my advice would be to get an e-mail from Celebrity stating what the cost will be for your photo package before you go. Then you will have it in writing. By the way, they relied heavily on previous footage for the souvenir DVD. Muir woods was shot at least a year before the drought by the look of the water in the creek. Avalon footage was charming, until the ship was shown anchored in the bay, “Celebrity Century.” Oops! The footage of San Francisco could have been our voyage, but they spelled Wharf, “Warf.” C’Mon, guys!! Footage shot of the Sizzle deck party was not included; why not? Was it too much trouble to edit it? Entertainment was very good. We especially enjoyed David Meyer on his xylo-synthesizer. Amazing energetic performance! We bought his CD. Ukrainian aerialists Tibi and Vika were jaw-dropping artists and athletes. Comedian Dean Gaines made us laugh with his jokes and presidential impressions. We attended his G-rated show. Colleen Williamson was engaging, as she was as good an actress as she was a singer. The Infinity orchestra was outstanding. The ship’s Production Cast singers and dancers were better than we have seen on other cruise lines. We just wished the choreographers in Florida who design the shows would have given them better material to express their talents. More storyline and less flashing their fannies in skimpy costumes would be welcome. They were fine young people and taught dance classes very well. Our shore excursions were OK, but Muir Woods was very crowded because of the Labor Day weekend, and people didn’t seem to know how to be quiet and reverent among the trees. In Sausalito we were just dropped off on the main street for 35 minutes and pointed towards the local ice cream place. Our Avalon Scenic and Botanical Garden on Catalina was an open air double tram with a good guide who drove us up the narrow roads to see the views. It was very hot! Without our cooling towels we never would have made it. The Botanical Garden was very disappointing, as the plants and shrubs were all encaged to keep protected wildlife out, and they were dying from lack of rainfall. We faced a long uphill climb on a dirt road to see Wrigley’s Mausoleum and decided to wait in the shade instead. The tour did not include the historic Casino Ballroom, and we thought that it did. Unfortunately it was too hot to walk there on our own in the afternoon, so we returned earlier than we planned to the ship, (and its air conditioning!) In Monterey we went to church and lunched with friends, in Santa Barbara we took the city electric bus up State Street and enjoyed the view of the city and the bay from the courthouse. Santa Barbara had loads of helpful guides to meet us onshore. It was September 11th and the Young Republicans from UC Santa Barbara made a display of American flags stuck in the beach for every life lost in the attacks. It was very colorful and moving. San Diego was Sea World on our own. Military folks, (active duty and retired), can enjoy four complimentary tickets. We got off the ship in Ensenada only to go to the dock market and buy Mexican vanilla. My husband bought me a pair of lovely silver and opal earrings. Food and Specialty restaurants: The Ocean View Café Deck 10 was a daily lavish buffet with something for every taste. Breakfast had four omelet stations, again reducing the wait time. I was particularly impressed with the salad bar, the four carving stations, (two on each side), the fresh breads, and the pasta station. Usually four or five choices of pasta were offered which were then heated while your sauce of choice was stir fried in a skillet with olive oil, artichoke hearts, garlic, or a wide variety of other meats and vegetables, then sautéed together and finished off with freshly grated parmesan cheese. Yum! The tables were kept bused and clean. The bar servers were always on hand to ask if you wanted something from the bar. The pizza was just OK, but the buttered garlic bread there was a daily temptation. The ice cream and sorbet bar was available from noon to 10:30 pm, and the sugar free flavors were good, too. There were juices, coffees, teas, and herbal teas to drink. They had all other non sugar sweeteners, but not stevia, so if you use it, bring your own. The only fault I found was the self serve glasses were only 4 ounces, so you had to keep getting up to refill them. Again, the water issue. There are signs on the machines asking you to not refill water bottles there. We got the dining package offered as soon as we boarded; 1 dinner in SS United States, 1 dinner in Qsine, and 1 meal in Bistro on Five, the crepe restaurant, for $85.00 per person. We dined the first night at SS United States, and had the Chateaubriand for two which was melt in your mouth beef! Service was excellent, extra tipping expected. At Qsine we wished the server would have warned us about the big portions. We had to scale back on what we originally ordered because we were stuffed. The food was delicious, particularly the Mediterranean kebobs and the meatballs. We had crepes on the last day for lunch at Bistro on Five. The flank steak and the chicken were both very good. The flaw here was the milkshakes. They are delicious, but the server has to run down the hall to the Café al Bacio Geleteria to get the ice cream, so they are often a long wait. We liked the Apple Store onboard and the classes were very popular. We learned a couple of new things. The Canyon Ranch Spa was overpriced of course, but Kusuma from Thailand gave an absolutely superior massage! Because we don’t drink alcohol we were offered to try the only alcohol free “wine” onboard, the red and white “Fre” brand. Now, granted we know little to nothing about wine tasting, but it was awful! Cellar Masters sommelier wouldn’t even talk to us about alcohol free juice, and dismissed us in a snobby manner. May I suggest that Celebrity can do better for its teetotaler guests by offering choices such as Gwurztraminer white and red grape juices bottled by Navarro Vineyards in Northern California. We discovered these at Club 33 at Disneyland and they are light, crisp, and delicious! Probably the Friends of Bill W. would appreciate it too. In summary, we felt that our TA offered us a good deal; the cabin we wanted, and the 1, 2, 3 Go promotion of: gratuities paid, classic beverage package, and $300 Celebrity OBC, in addition to the OBC they offered. We will probably go that route again. The unforgettable and thrilling moments of the cruise were kissing as our ship sailed under the Golden Gate, watching the sun rise at our tender ports, and meeting new friends from the UK. Read Less

We are experienced cruisers (12 +), second time with Celebrity. We selected this itinerary for the Pacific San Diego to Vancouver route. My brother & his wife traveling with us, first time on Celebrity. Concierge cabins 2138 & 2140 on deck 12. We picked these so that we could have a combined balcony which worked great the first day. Until the trouble started with the excessive noise above us from the oceanview café - intolerable. Requested a move for both cabins. We are elite members (celebrity), diamond (RCCL). We were moved to a down graded cabin, we should have been upgraded. Moved to a far forward lower cabin away from our family & we had to ask for everything promised to concierge class. Concierge totally dropped the ball & when we complained to him personally, he was very defensive. Finally offered us $200 toward future cruise - big deal - not. Concierge class is a joke, a few amenities thrown on a standard balcony cabin, not worth the money. Canopes every day were no better than seagull food, which we did throw to them. We were embarrassed because we convinced our family to try celebrity for the first time. They usually sail Princess. Food is very average. Again these cruise lines are pushing you to use specialty dining. Big mistake. The shows were very boring and disappointing. Cruise director Alexandro was the only highlight. The ship is beautiful, the crew very pleasant, the captain very accessible. The embarkation process in San Diego was very disorganized. Shore excursion staff very good. The eclipse was the most rocky ship that we had every been on (12 cruises on other ships). The pacific was very rough so that could account for it, or maybe an unstable ship, not sure which or both. Celebrity makes big distinction in price & amenities for suites vs. all others. We did book a future cruise to take advantage of the offers but may cancel it. Biggest highlight - beautiful ship. Biggest disappointments - Cabin 2138 & 2140. C2 Concierge. Lack of respect for Elite class member & moved us to a down graded cabin. Read Less

Have just disembarked the Celebrity Eclipse following a 9 night Pacific Coastal Cruise from San Diego to Vancouver. We chose this cruise because we had sailed on the Eclipse 3 time previously and liked the itinerary. On embarking the ship we were greeted with the customary glass of champagne (make the most of it as it’s the last freebie you will get). The first thing I would say is that the Eclipse is not the ship it once was. The ship is looking a bit tired and does not seem to be as well maintained as it once was. Previously every time the ship was in port it was being painted, not so anymore! The soft furnishings have scuffs, rips and tears. That said, our cabin steward Salvadore was exceptional and kept our cabin tip-top. Be aware that every drink you order, be it tea, coffee or alcohol will be subject to the addition of a 20% Service Charge which is added automatically so the staff have no incentive to offer a good service. You have to wonder how much of this 20% is passed on to the staff! Maybe the American market is different to the European market and is geared around giving a low entry price and then charge for everything you can as an “extra”. The onboard shopping experience is poor with most shops selling over-priced tat. The Qsine restaurant concept has been changed, and whilst it is different, the menu is very limited, the old concept was much better and offered more choice. Murano continues to be the jewel in the crown when it comes to the speciality restaurants. The food and service here is exceptional. Tuscan grill is a good second choice. The Oceanview buffet restaurant offers a good choice but the food is only ever luke warm at best. Moonlight Sonata, the main dining room is OK but the quality and choice of food has declined. The staff here aren’t particularly attentive and seem to be lacking experience, there seemed to be a changeover of staff occurring during our trip. The entertainment is more East End than West End, maybe the Americans are easily pleased. We missed our stop at Monterey due to bad weather. Astoria has nothing of interest to offer and seems to be a stop for the sake of a stop. San Francisco was well worth it and the additional overnight in port due to us not stopping at Monterey was a welcome surprise. Victoria and Vancouver were both nice places to visit. Having travelled on Eclipse three times previously it was my favourite ship and I would have recommended it without reservation, unfortunately I can’t do this anymore. The Staff only seem interested in up-selling everything they can at every opportunity, even the bottled water in your Stateroom is now charged for. Eclipse is no longer a 5* experience it’s now 4* and declining experience. Hopefully the re-fit next year will restore Eclipses former glory. Read Less

We liked the itinerary and had not visited the West Coast since the 80`s.We got to San Diego a day early and enjoyed the city.Didn`t stop in Monterrey due to the heavy seas and the water was rough up to Seattle.Got two and half days in San Francisco and had a good time.The stop in Astoria Oregon should be eliminated and the extra time spent in Seattle a beautiful city.Victoria was great too.We ended in Vancouver and flew home but should have spent an extra day here. The cabin was great [a little dated] but kept spotless by a very good steward. The food was a letdown in both the Dining Room and the Oceanview cafe but the the service was excellent.I think the Celebrity is trying to force people to the Specialty restaurants or the top of the line cabins with their own restaurants. The captain was very visible and the Cruise Director was also very good. The shows were good. Embarkation was so-so. [we had to walk up a very steep plank] I will cruise Celebrity again for the combination of a good deal and interesting itinerary but being aware that the quality and variety of food has gone down. Great knitting cruise! Older ship, but well maintained, I thought. It is, however, missing some of the things that the newer ships of the line have and unfortunately, I found the service in some areas lacking. Our cabin was great. We lucked into upgrading to a Family Verandah cabin after final payment and really enjoyed the extra space and the enormous balcony. (An aside, I wish they had designed a bit of extra space for the bathroom--I can't imagine a family of 5 using that tiny, phone-booth-sized bathroom!) Our room steward was great. Two minor downsides, the toilet ALWAYS required more than 1 flush (sorry if that's TMI, but it is what it is) and the sheets always felt slightly…clammy? Maybe the humidity at sea? Maybe just me? I attended 3 shows and they were excellent. The musical entertainment around the ship was good, if a little loud at times. Luigi did a great job as cruise director. OK, now the service issues. Embarkation was a NIGHTMARE! Well over an hour wait, incredibly long lines, and very unorganized once into the terminal. "Go sit over there." Then people were not taken into line in the order seated. Very unpleasant start to the cruise. It was almost impossible to find bar service wait staff at the 10th floor café at breakfast to order fresh squeezed orange juice. Yes, a first-world problem, but I had the beverage package mainly for the orange juice and lattes for breakfast! I was only able to get it 2 out of 7 mornings!. Ordering a latte upstairs at breakfast was virtually impossible—they had to go down to the 5th floor Café al Bacio to get it. Only got that once. I went downstairs to get it myself AFTER breakfast 6 days. Again, in the grand scheme of things, a minor annoyance, but not one I’ve experienced on my favorite (other) cruise line. The main dining room (select dining) had bar issues as well. Several times, at both lunch and dinner, dinner companions ordered drinks or wine, asked several times about them, and one night actually complained to the Maitre d’ about the unconscionable delay. He tried to explain it away by saying that it was a busy night, but really? On a cruise ship, every night is a busy night! Overall, it was not a bad experience and I will certainly cruise Celebrity again, especially for knitting cruises. However, I think most of my cruising will be on another cruise line. Read Less

We are longtime cruisers, with at least 13 cruises and over 110 days at sea. My point is we have cruised before; Caribbean, Transatlantic, Bermuda, Alaska, Pacific coast. We’ve been on Princess, HAL, NCL, Carnival and Celebrity. With that background here is my review of my Pacific Coast cruise on Celebrity’s Infinity 9/17-24/2017. We booked this cruise based 100% on the itinerary. It started in Vancouver, then Seattle, Astoria OR, sea day, San Francisco, Monterey CA, Santa Barbara CA and ended in Laos Angeles. The Infinity is beginning to show its age. The décor and artwork are not up to today’s standards, wear and tear was evident in many places, but all things considered it is a good ship. The staterooms were bigger than I expected and the baths were spacious compared to many others. The ship’s layout was pretty typical, we had no trouble finding anything and after a day or so easily found our way around the ship. The entertainment seemed to be a cut above what we’ve seen elsewhere. The magician Chris Funk was very entertaining, funny and mystifying. He did an evening show and an afternoon up close show. Both were well attended and well accepted. Lou Gazzara is a very talented singer from Las Vegas that also did an evening show and an afternoon performance. The final headliner was a Billy Joel tribute performer that played piano and sung. I didn’t record his name but I wish I had, he was also excellent. And to show he was willing to do whatever was needed for us to have great entertainment, the piano player for Lou Gazzara couldn’t perform that night and he filled in on the piano. But we all cruise for the food don’t we? Breakfast and lunch were as expected, all the standards and more (a poached egg station?) were available, no surprises, no disappointments. Our dinner staff was excellent. For some reason there were 6 empty tables around us and our seven top was our staff’s only table. The five dinners we ate there were all first rate. No complaints. Qsine is a $45 specialty restaurant that is as much an experience as it is a meal. Every diner is given an iPad as the menu. There are 20 choices and if you like you can get them all. Each is a small plate and I believe we had 7 plus dessert for the two of us. Each item was a work of art and even though the menu described the items each was a surprise when it hit the table. I highly recommend checking it out. It’s very hard to get everything perfect, and the two failures on this cruise were bad enough for us to decide we will not return to Celebrity. The first was the Chef’s Table dinner. These are usually only offered once per cruise and only seat a few people. We had 8 guests and an officer at the table. I think the best way to describe the Celebrity’s Chef’s Table (CTC) is to compare it to our last Princess CT. The Princess CT (PCT) started the day before, we all met with the Executive Chef and Sommelier to discuss the menu and our likes/dislikes/allergies, etc. They then went off to prepare the food and wine pairing. The CTC started with an invitation in our cabin stating time and place to meet. Both CTs met outside the galley. PCT gave us all white chef’s jackets and taught us proper handwashing technique before allowing us to proceed. They then brought us into the galley where we again met the Executive Chef and the Sommelier. There was an ice carving on a table surrounded by appetizers on a spoon and a small glass of wine for each of us. The next app was also served there, with another wine. We then toured the galley, hung up our jackets and were led to a table. Each seat had a small loaf of bread with our name written in chocolate for a place card. CTC met outside the galley, we posed for a group picture, then went on a brief galley tour. From there we were led to our table and found our seats by the paper nametags. On the PCT we were served more appetizers (a total of 6), each arriving on a tray with fresh cut flowers. Followed by soup and sorbet. The main course was Roast Veal Shank and Beef Tenderloin carved tableside, followed by dessert. The CTC had one appetizer, soup and salad. Sorbet was on the menu but not served. Main course was a choice of Filet or Turbot. Dessert was a “Chocolate Sphere. “ a hollow ball of chocolate filled with a fruit filling. They told us that usually they light the chocolate and it melts into a smooth dessert but for safety they would not light them. Instead we had to use our spoons to break our way through the hard shell to get to the inside. It may have been good melted, but as served everyone just had a few bites and pushed it away. PCT cost $200/couple, CTC was $250/couple. We left very disappointed. Second problem was with the only shore excursion was the only shore excursion we booked through Celebrity. We were in Santa Barbara on Saturday and my wife decided she wanted to see the Reagan Library, a $129 excursion. I filled out the form on Thursday and dropped it in the box at 3pm. On Friday morning (the excursion was on Saturday) we got a phone call at 6:22am. We had nothing planned and our intention was to sleep in a little. But a phone call at 6:22am ended that idea. The caller said she had just seen our request (shore excursion was open for 2 hours the night before) and it was no longer available. Yes, we got a very early morning phone call to tell us our trip for the next day wasn’t available. I got madder and madder throughout the day and finally decided I needed to talk to someone. I went to the excursion desk when it opened and asked to talk to the manager. The staffer on duty asked what it was about and I said I just needed to talk to him. She said I needed to explain the whole story to her and she would decide if I could speak with him. I left and went to guest services who called him and had him come talk to me. He heard the story and promised to look into it. A few hours later he called back, apologized, said “the girl has been reprimanded and apologized” and that we were now booked on the trip. The tickets say to go to the theater at 8:30am. We sat in the theater until 9:45, at which point we had to tender to the pier and walk to the bus. In route the tour guide said our time would be limited to 2 hours at the Library due to our late start, that usually there was 2 ½ - 3 hours. They were ready to leave on time, the ship delayed our exit and we were cut short. No one felt there was enough time to see the library. There was also a stop at the Paramount Ranch to see some old movie sets. Everyone on our bus asked if we could skip that and stay longer but she said she had to take us. When we arrived she said due to traffic we only had 5 minutes there, but the driver said he could avoid traffic and we could spend half an hour. Everyone was back on the bus in about 15 minutes, it was a worthless stop to us. And by the way, there were 16 empty seats on the “full tour.” A few words on the staff and I’ll end. The main dining room staff was great. Everywhere else the focus seemed to be on them and not the guests. We were expected to yield to them when walking anywhere. They would never step aside or avoid us, we always had to give way. One waiter on the buffet are walked down the line singing “love me, love me, like I love you. I love you all my guests.” Two staff (again, not the main DR) told us “you will get a survey, please mark all employees a 10. If there is something you didn’t like write it in the comments, but you have to grade us a 10 or we won’t get raises and bonuses. Always rate everything a 10 or it is bad for all of us.” Was it a good trip? Yes. Did I have a good time? Yes. Am I glad I went? Yes. Will I cruise again? Yes. On Celebrity? No. We have a choice where we spend our money, that choice will most likely be Princess. I had heard that Celebrity was trying to be the upscale brand to the Royal Caribbean sister brand, if so they need to keep trying. Read Less

Review of Celebrity Infinity 5/17 5/28/17 This cruise departed San Diego and ended in Vancouver BC with a great itinerary including Santa Barbara, Monterey, San Francisco (two days), Astoria OR, and Seattle. There were three stops in Canada as well. Overall the cruise should be considered only average however. Boarding in San Diego was terrible and perhaps even unhealthy and dangerous because of overcrowding and lack of sufficient staff and security stations. Two ships, ours and a Disney were being processed in the same building at the same time so roughly 6000 passengers had to go through four security screening devices. The line was out of the building and the process took two hours. Older people and families with small children had to stand in line for two hours. It was the worst boarding situation we have encountered. Our ship made no announcements, explanations or apologies for this disaster. The staff on the ship was very good. They almost all seemed friendly and they all were hard working and effective at their jobs. Our room steward, Garfield was the best we have ever encountered. The wait staff was very good as well. We used select time dining (show up when you want) and had only short waits. Food in the main dining room for breakfast was quite good every day. Service was excellent and staff worked hard to please the passengers. We did not have breakfast in the buffet. Lunch was served only once or twice in the MDR but the food ranged from terrible, inedible to only bad, there and in the buffet. Dinner in the MDR was also just plain bad and at times inedible. For example, steaks that were so fatty and full of gristle that they couldn’t even be cut and just rolled around on the plate. Gross. Salmon was warm but raw. Escargot was tasteless (tasteless snails have little to recommend them when you think about it). The wait staff was cheerful and we didn’t blame them for the poor quality food. The cruise line is responsible. Almost every passenger we discussed this with agreed. Some thought Celebrity was trying to push passengers into the up charge restaurants which we hear were excellent. Could be I guess. The benefits for Elite and above customers were cut back so that the breakfast area was serve yourself except for beverages. The fresh squeezed orange juice wasn’t. When we asked the server if it was fresh squeezed he asked us, “Does it look fresh squeezed, does it taste like fresh squeezed?” Our answer was of course; “No” He just shrugged and walked off. The cocktail party required that each guest use three drink coupons and pay for any drink in addition to that. The manager of the bar patrolled the area like a drill sergeant enforcing this rule. Passengers who embarked the ship in Fort Lauderdale said the coupons only started after San Diego when more Elite level passengers boarded. They boarded the ship with one level of benefits and debarked with a lower level. Could it be that the cruise line is creating a higher, better level of service and perks for suite and higher level guests and reducing benefits for the frequent cruisers? It seems that way. This could be a new business model that will come back to bite them. Entertainment was acceptable by today’s cruise standards. Nothing was exciting or special. The production cast did display a lot of talent and enthusiasm during their last show. It’s no longer surprising when even the weakest performers receive standing ovations. Have you noticed? Cruise performers routinely ask for applause. Clap for the band which had only one hour to rehearse. Every outside performer on every cruise gets only one hour for this rehearsal and it always works well. What’s the big deal? “Clap for the lights and sound guy, for the cruise director, for music fans out there, for yourselves, etc. etc “ Why not entertain and earn the applause? Celebrity is marketed as an upscale level of Royal Caribbean but it no longer is better than RCL and, in fact, isn’t nearly as good anymore. Don’t pay more for Celebrity if RCL has similar cruises. We won’t use Celebrity in the future unless the price is very low. To use a nautical metaphor, Celebrity has been coasting for a while but is now slowing down, losing headway. Read Less

We choose this cruise because of the itinerary which did not disappoint. The fact that it was a Celebrity cruise excited us because the last time we took a Celebrity trip (a number of years ago) we found it to be outstanding and the best food of any cruises we had been on. How times change. First let me say the crew was wonderful and did their best. As far as the dining, bland, bland, bland. My most memorable dish was eggs benedict from the breakfast buffet. Certainly had the most flavor. We dined in the Tuscan Grille and I paid even more money for the 22oz dry aged porterhouse steak. It was good, but I have had dry aged sirloins before, and done correctly, it is a meal you do not forget. I forgot about this by the next morning. Entertainment was ok, guest performers were quite good but the most fun was the silent disco at the martini bar! We took all private tours which were wonderful. We get the impression that unless you are an Elite member, you are just another face.Celebrity needs to pick up their game, the market is way too competitive. Read Less

Very nice cruise, We are seniors and have done about 48 cruises on various lines. We have done about 10 coastal cruises along the Pacific coast and have previously visited most of the ports on this cruise. Our primary reason for taking this cruise was the entertainment, food, and a close to home get a way. We live about 120 miles north of San Francisco. We drove down to the bay area and stayed the night previous to our flight at the El Rancho Hotel in Millbrae. We have done this several times. When a cruise starts in San Francisco, we have the hotel shuttle take us to SFO where we get the cruise ship bus to the port in SF. On this trip, we had had a 6 AM flight to Vancouver. We were up to catch the shuttle at 4 AM. The flight was smooth and our customs check in Vancouver was also. They have a new system at the airport that allows Americans to pass through customs with a minimum of time lost. It is a BIG improvement over our last time at this airport. You just slap you passport on a screen at one of the machines, get a receipt and you are on your way. If you have any problems, there is a helper there to answer any questions. Otherwise, you wait in VERY LONG lines to get up to talk with an inspector. We were through and out the door in about 5 minutes. We expected a traffic jam at the port, because members of the British Royal Family were visiting the port area about the time we were supposed to arrive. We were pleasantly surprised when the bus sailed right through and we were dropped off at Canada Place. We did have to wait for about a half hour before boarding, but we were on the ship before noon. The cabins were not ready until 1 o’clock, so we had lunch at the lido restaurant and waited on deck until then. Cabin We had a balcony cabin located mid ship. It was a typical cabin with vanity, small couches, and king size bed. On each side of the bed was a two-drawer night strand. The light in my reading lamp was not adequate, but the one on my wife’s side was better. The balcony was small, but had two chairs and a small table that were adequate. The bath had two shelves for storage and the typically large Celebrity stall shower. Our only objection was that the life boats were directly below the balcony and blocked the view of the water below. Our cabin steward took very good care of the room. Perks We booked this cruise with a travel agent because of an email ad we received from them. It was a president’s cruise attended by the president of the travel agency and several of her employees and had some extra perks included. They turned out to be not worth the cost. Some, like the slot contest, were actually an added cost. At first it looked like a good deal, but we later found otherwise. All the cruise lines recently started to provide bonuses like drink packages and pre-paid tips as an inducement to book with them, but in reality they just added the cost of these items to the regular booking price. If you wait until a month or so before the cruise, you will probably be able to get a much better price and paying for the extras yourself will be cheaper than taking the so-called bonuses. We found that the drink package was the biggest loser as we seldom have more than one or two drinks each day. We also used the package for purchase of water, the cost of which has really gotten out of hand. However, the water and liquor in the cabin could not be charged against the package as it did not qualify. We had to buy the large water bottles at a bar and take them back to our cabin. This actually turned out for the best as the Evian water in the cabin tasted terrible. The bars had a different brand that was much better. Food Celebrity has always been known for serving good quality beef. That is still true, by the best quality cuts are not served as often as before and more stews and similar types of beef are now more prevalent in the main dining room. The food served in the lido restaurant has always been somewhat tasteless or over spiced and that has not changed. On this trip, there seemed to be a larger percentage of Asian food available and less American. The soups in this restaurant were terrible. The redeeming item was the breads. They were always good at all the restaurants. The service in both restaurants was always excellent. We did not eat at any of the specialty restaurants. Shows Celebrity shows have never been as good as Royal Caribbean shows. That seems strange as both lines are owned by the same company. Those on this cruise were just OK with very memorable. Summary, Overall, it was a good cruise with great weather and smooth seas most of the way. We had no rain at any stops and very little wind. The temperature everywhere was very comfortable. The high point of the cruise was being able to stand on the top deck of the ship in San Francisco and watch the Blue Angels put on their show during Fleet Week. We have seen them perform several time, but never had seats like this before. It was spectacular. Read Less

The ship & crew are second to none on Celebrity. Unfortunately my heel caught on the small lights on the dance floor of the Constellation Lounge & I went down & hurt my back. This severely cut back my activities that I had planned to do on this cruise. We are definitely Celebrity loyalists & this was the first time we have tried Aqua class. I'm not sure I would do it again. The service was either dreadfully slow especially at breakfast or very rushed at dinner, not always but sometimes. I thought the food was the same as the MDR with a few garnishes thrown in, although the dishes that they use are lovely. I really loved the shower in the cabin although I think they should get rid of the shower curtain. Our room steward was very good & attentive. We were not able to attend any shows or activities so cannot comment. Nanaimo has very friendly peopl that we're very good to me. Victoria is a lovely city. We took this cruise as it was going to overnight San Francisco but due to my fall we did not get to do what we had planned but will definitely be back. I will definitely go on Celebrity again but it was interesting to note that they have already changed the dance floor on the Summit. Read Less

We've been cruising for more than 10 years, taken 12+ cruises, and this was the second one on a Celebrity ship. We chose the cruise because of the itinerary and the positive experience we'd had on the Celebrity Century years ago, which we thought was first class. The Infinity is a nice size ship, not too big, and it was clean and the staff was friendly. That said, for the money they charged ($4500, which didn't include internet service @ $324), the entertainment was hopeless and the food was terrible. There wasn't much of a selection for entertainment or activities. Food quality, selection and service in the main restaurant was average, and food served on the Lido deck was the same EVERY day both for lunch and dinner, with the main entree being roasted pork for 10 out of the 12 days (there must have been a great sale!). Our cabin was a nice size and the steward was friendly and helpful. Favorite ports included Vancouver, Victoria (Butchart Gardens was a great excursion), Seattle and San Francisco. Overall cruise was nice, but the quality of Celebrity cruises has gone down. Read Less

Even though we had visited most of these ports before, we loved them all and wanted to visit again. Started out staying in San Diego 3 nights before the cruise. Visited the zoo, which is a must, La Jolla, just beautiful, Coronado island, Gastown, Old Town, and would really recommend staying here as there is so much to do and see. Embarkation went smoothly and by 1:00 we were in our room. 8122. Very nice room with adequate balcony. Dinner this night was good and entertainment good too, Celebrity singers and dancers, which were very talented. Santa Barbara was our first port, which was a tender. Everything was run smoothly and we had a very enjoyable day just walking around this pretty little city. Volunteers right at the port were very helpful. Next stop was Monterey, where we rented a car with the couple we travelled with and took in Big Sur and Carmel for lunch. A must see. That night the dinner choices were not great and what we ended up with were the regular choices that are there nightly. Just average dinner. But our waiter happened to be the best waiter we have ever had for a cruise, and we have been on 40+. The show that night was fantastic, a young duo, male and female, 5 o'clock Somewhere, We, along with a good many people, followed and became "groupies" throughout the cruise. Unfortunately, the other venues were not very conducive to large groups of people which made it hard to listen and enjoy them. Next stop San Francisco for two nights. We've been here a few times and had met a friend, so just enjoyed walking around city both days and eating our way through. Finally a day at sea. Again, disappointing as there really isn't much going on so we decided to brave the outside and watch a movie upstairs on the top deck which was newly renovated. Nobody was around to order a drink or adjust volume on big screen that we couldn't here. So downstairs to customer service. We were told they were so sorry but movie can be watched in conference room. We made our way there and proceeded to sit on very uncomfortable conference room chairs so we decided to forgo this idea as well. After going back to customer service and inquiring why movie is not in theater on sea day when nothing else is going on was told entertainers were practicing and there was a talk about excursions (making money). More important! Astoria next stop. Not much doing here. Walk out to Pier 39 to view sea lions. Another day at sea and not much going on. Seattle next stop. Did our own thing with other couple. Chihuly Gardens which is not to be missed and Underground tour of Seattle. Interesting. Nanaimo, B.C. Next stop. Volunteers out helping visitors at port . Quaint little town, walking by water and into town. Lots of shops and eateries. Free shuttles back to ship. Victoria last day before the end. Great walking and exploring. We had been here before and enjoyed Butchart Gardens and what is now Fairmont Hotel. Took in shopping, Chinatown, etc and walk around houseboats near port. Very enjoyable. Disembarkation was easy. Stayed in Vancouver 3 additional nights. Overall, ship had good entertainment, but food was really lacking. Thank God for our waiter who made the most of a bad situation. The only decent meals were the first and second to last. Lunch buffet was equally bad. Will think long and hard before a return cruise on Celebrity. Read Less

although we had a great time on this cruise & loved the intinerrary, we were disappointed with the food among other things. the food in the buffet was really poor. we tried several times to eat there but were always upset with the food. we were not happy with the ding room food either. there were 3 or 4 nights the food was good, but not on the other 7 or 8 nights. when we complained to the head waiter he suggested that if we want a better meal we should choose the upgraded restaurants (at $39.00 each). the interior of the ship was clean & nice looking, but the outside was dirty looking & rusty. the shows were very good, but again, we were dissatisfied with the amount of entertainment provided. there was one show per night--that's it! after 10pm there was nothing to do except gamble. this cruise was a pacific coastal route. where the weather is somewhat cool. knowing this, you would think that the cruise line would have provided more chairs in the enclosed pool area. whenever we were on the ship this enclosed pool area was completely full. there were never enough chairs. i think it would have made sense to try to accomedate as many as possible into this area. the service was good all over the ship. we had a fantastic waiter named sergio in the main dining room. he made every meal a pleasure. Overall, it was an OK cruise. The MDR menu really need to refer to previous generations menus where there where more choices for each course. Now there are 'starters' and 'entrees'. Cabin 3130 was awesome if you are on an M class ship. Well placed for an Oceanview. Bistro on 5 needs a remake or make it free. We saw no more than 5 people in there at a time and mostly at dinner. Get real Celebrity! People aren't paying $10 for lunch!! Shows were OK. What really shines on the Infinty is the crew. All nice and attentive. Our MDR waiter was an absolute blast! The assistant was awesome too. Even our coffee shop guy was good, as well as the Martini server. Embarkation was smooth, but we were select so the special line was nice. We are now Elite, so next review we will tell more. We usually cruise in Concierge class, but this time was OpenView. It wasn't much different, just no balcony, but a huge window instead. I look forward to our Solstice cruise in May from Hawaii to Vancouver. Never been on the S classed ships. Read Less

Just returned from Cruise- 2nd to 13 February 2016- Ship was very well appointed and food was fairly good- crew very pleasant service acceptable -cabin clean I am a solo traveler and paid almost double for my cruise- However I was very disappointed to find that the Solstice did not provide any specific activities or facilities form the solo traveler I approached guest relations who pointed out a small notice on the information board suggesting that solo guests meet every morning 10am in the Martini bar- I attended several mornings but as the bar was in the middle of a very public area and was not staffed- in order to introduce solo guests -not a good idea - no guests approached the bar. I spent long days at sea- aside from the gym nothing and no-one for company- meals taken alone- never experienced such total indifference to solo travelers on any previous cruise- Celebrity take the exorbitant amounts from solos and do nothing to provide even basic introductions to facilitate the needs of single guests. On sea days I found the entertainment insufficient and poor quality- not all your guests are interested in gambling and shopping. The disembarkation process was absolute chaos- port of Auckland was not too small to cope I will never recommend Celebrity cruises or go on another. they are over priced especially to solo travelers but you take the money but do not provide us with any basic needs Shame on Celebrity- I endured a miserable time on the Solstice Read Less

We decided to take this cruise because of the Itinerary... The check in was quick although since we were returning a rental car in Vancouver, they had us going up and down couple of times until we got on the ship. We were in cabin 7111 and our steward was great. No complains there.... The cabin was smaller than what we are used to based on their other ships, but it was OK... Bed - it was extremely hard and uncomfortable. I have back problems and there were nights when both of us couldn't sleep. Wanted to use the couch but it was too small and we couldn't. Not being able to sleep really put us in bad mood during the days. I sleep really well on the ships and was looking forward to it. Needless to say didn't happen. The friends we traveled with is a massage therapist and thank God she was able to help me so I can walk and move. Specialty Restaurants - Qsine was a cute experience... Tuscan Grill - we love this place, this time not so much. A dinner of 4 took 2.5 hrs all together, ordering a drink took 25 min to get it and if you want a refill it is another 25 min, on couple of occasions we had to fill our water glasses from the bottle they left beside the table. Buffet - the food was OK, not many choices, but OK... Getting a drink - we gave up on this one... no one ever walked around us and we ended up getting it ourselves. We liked the Martini Bar where we met other people with the same experiences of the beds and service. We are usually not high maintenance travelers and were really looking forward to this vacation. In summary, the bad bed, nonexistent service made us quiet disappointed with this ship, as we still paid premium price for the cruise. It wasn't cheap. This ship was Refurbished in 2015 and it doesn't look like it already. We did enjoy the tour of the ship, this was probably the only good thing on the ship that we experienced. We selected this for the itinerary. We especially wanted to get to San Francisco. Alcohol Note: You can purchase wine or spirits in Seattle and bring it on board. You do not have to submit to the ship's scanner. You will go through a customs scanner but they don't care that you have bottles (very strange). The ship looks like it needs a make-over. However, the theatre, gym and dining room are all very nice. I play craps. This ship may have the worst crew working the table that I've ever come across and they seem to take their direction from their inhospitable casino manager. Stay away from this casino. Leaving the ship on the final day wasn't good. We lined up when our number was called and found that people that were exiting the elevator, simply went ahead of our line. When this was brought to the attention of a staff member, my complaint was met with a blank stare. Another case of Nobody is in Charge. The Hotel Manager doesn't seem to be aware of his responsibility to passengers. My final complaint is a big one - what were they thinking? The Hotel Manager decided it was a good idea to make the sauna a unisex facility. I won't go into the whole story ... but women were given full access to the ENTIRE men's change room/toilet area NOT JUST THE SAUNA. Imagine my surprise when I exited the shower to find two women standing outside its door waiting to use it? Read Less

We chose this cruise based on a great past cruise with Celebrity and the itinerary which included nine ports in eleven days. Sadly, the quality of service, food, food presentation and entertainment have all gone way downhill since our last cruise. From embarkation in San Diego to returning to the ship after our last full day in Victoria BC, we encountered problems literally every other day. Most were small, but annoying and took time to resolve. Celebrity is in the service business, but seems to have made changes strictly to make more profit for them. Examples: Room towels were of lesser quality than a Holiday Inn Express. Celebrity now allows select members of the ship's crew to dine with guests in the Oceanview Cafe. No more midnight buffet's or even finally evening midnight buffet with ice sculptures. And, the chairs and tables in the Cafe really show their age and need updating. But who cares, it is where the buffet is served. Entertainment included a very mediocre juggler/magician as a main act. I could go on, but what is the point. Celebrity only cares to get you on board and then sell you everything they can. That is there focus. The even messed up two "Special Events" that we were celebrating including my 60th birthday on a day we were at sea. Why ask if you are celebrating special occasions on the cruise, and then mishandle and miss entirely, the special occasion? Yet, this is what Celebrity has become. Poor trained, poor managed staff that can only apologize for problems and put band-aids on them, rather than doing something to change the experience and make it better. Mind you there were a few shining stars who tried really hard, but this was a long and expensive cruise and the overall on board experience was not a positive one. Read Less

Have seen various reviews of Celebrity and decided to try it for our 50th anniversary. We are experienced cruisers (over 60 cruises on 5 different lines) and were disappointed in the concierge veranda stateroom. 1st- the closet for our clothes is too small for all of our clothes (11 day trip), 2nd- the hanger system is enough to infuriate a person who is used to a system where one can remove hangers with ease, put clothes on them and return the hanger to the rail that holds them. One has to fight to either remove the hanger from the holder or compress the rest of the clothes already in the closet in order to replace the item back into the closet. Too those who might say we took too many clothes, remember we have been on many other ships and have not had this kind of problem. NEXT- the advertising said we would have a REFRIGERATOR in our room. In all other ships that we have been on, the refrigerator has kept our beverages cold. We complained about a warm "refrigerator". We were told by the front desk person and the engineer who came to check our box that it was not a refrigerator but a cool box a mini-bar setup. He replaced the old "cool" box with another one which did not provide any improvement. Don't the people who use the mini-bar want cold beverages? If it had not been for our cabin attendant constantly replacing a large and small ice bucket which was refilled twice a day. we would not have had any cold water or milk to drink. Otherwise, the cabin was comfortable. Eating- the hamburger stand was terrible. we were served a cold hamburger on a cold bum with a cold piece of cheese.- yuck! The dining room was average. The room service was outstanding!!!! We used room service frequently and were very pleased with the service and the food provided!! The Qsine restaurant! What a night! It was an incredibly different and fun experience. We went there on our anniversary and could not have chosen a better celebration! In conclusion - the trip was comfortable and the staff were friendly. The ship is basically bland and there is no "WOW" factor. We were surprised that we did receive an evaluation form after the trip. Our friends who the same trip last year did not receive one either. We wonder if Celebrity is not interested in the opinions of first time Celebrity cruisers. Read Less

Having traveled on INFINITY twice before, my wife and I looked forward to this Pacific Coast Cruise on INFINITY. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. We booked Concierge Class, but Celebrity did not deliver as advertised. Priority boarding only applied to the initial sign-up and receipt of Sea Pass. We were then directed to join all the other passengers waiting and given group number 19. When called, we wound through the terminal, waited to have our pictures taken and continued winding through the terminal. This is not priority boarding! Upon reaching our stateroom we observed the broken down hide-a-bed and the absence of promised "extras" to be provided Concierge passengers. The "dedicated" concierge was not available at his desk at the specified times. Concierge passengers were to have Priority Reservations in the main and specialty dining rooms. When I requested a reservation in the main dining room for 6:15 or 6:30, I was told the period from 6-8 was "blocked out" as so many passengers desired eating then! At the Tuscan Grill I made a reservation and requested a specific table. Again I was told they could not guarantee a specific table but to come early (before they opened) and stand in line to be first and then I could get the table i wished. This is Priority Reservations? As a result, my wife and I could see no advantage to having booked "Concierge Class". The food aboard was totally unremarkable. In the Main dining room, if you wanted a steak you could pas an additional $25! Really! Same in the Tuscan Grill. After paying a cover charge of $40 per person, New York Strip or Lobster was an additional $25 to $35. Wow! Rendezvous Lounge on previous cruises was a pleasant place to have a cocktail before dinner and listen to dance music or dance. This cruise there was "Trivia Quiz" each day before dinner. Cruise passengers were not dressed for dinner having just come aboard from shore or from on-board activities. Service in the Rendezvous Lounge was so poor that it was almost necessary to stand in line at the bar and get your own drinks. Also, "nibbles" were not provided as before. Entertainment was significantly below what we had come to expect on INFINITY. The was no Piano Bar anywhere at any time. Music other in the main theatre was totally lacking. Almost everyone we talked to expressed the same disappointment in the ship and felt that Celebrity had instituted too many coast saving actions. My wife and I had planned to cruise with INFINITY on a South American cruise in December of 2017. We will cancel that cruise and we will not cruise on INFINITY again and the jury s still out on Celebrity. Read Less
