Although bought by RCL and having ditched them for plastic plates and faces, we had an excellent cruise on Solstice. So we were expecting the same high standards from Celebrity this time round. Ports of call were excellent with the highlight being the entrance and exit to Stockholm Room was better than expected after an upgrade We used alternative excursions as they were half the price and a maximum of 14 people in VIP mini vans ( I can't praise "Shore Excursions" enough and hope that they don't get so big, it devalues the excellent service we received. Staff were, on the whole the standard you would expect, and exceptional in the coffee and martini bar now the negative, We were fortunate enough to spend half the cruise in speciality restaurants with Ocean liners being the best cruise restaurant we have been treated too. However, the main restaurant was mediocre at best saved by a sommelier that provided wine that overcome the dishes, rather than complement them. That sommelier then was able to provide perfect wine for the two dishes we had that the cook had actually sourced eatable ingredients. Note: Russia might be full of oligarchs but they still eat well. Unfortunately, the worst experience was at breakfast and lunch. For the first time on any cruise, every single dish was exactly the same for every day. To make things worse, the whole fruit of oranges and apples were rotting on the trays so no respite there. The entertainment? Well I can only offer a review of a voice from Las Vegas, who apparently had been at every top casino. He may have been a very good croupier while at these establishments, but sing? I don't think so. Watching him rub his greasy hair down his cheap silk like monochrome all grey attire, creating the shine of a well worn suit reminded us too much of breakfast fare. In summary, I strongly believe and hope that this experience was a one off, as we are a previous champion of Celebrity. I would not put anyone off only just to kick the management up the backside a bit. However, with our next Celebrity cruise coming up quickly, I will be noting other reviews intently in the next couple of months. Read Less

In Summary RE: Norwegian Fjords Value: Expensive in the high end categories. Some were able to get a suite at the last minute for 1/3 the cost. The value is in the quality of services and the itinerary. The Norwegian Fjords are breathtaking. Some rare excursions are a must do since you are there. The shuttle pontoons used in Norway are awesome. Cool drama removing them from the ship. If you can get on this ship and can afford a balcony, it's the way to go for an itinerary like this one. But, just getting on the ship would be worth the effort. Be sure to get up early enough to see the Fjords in the AM of arrival and expect to see sunlight until midnight as you travel north - really fun to be in the pool late and it's still daylight. Ship: Plenty to do, especially if you have money for the spa services. Take advantage of the services -even acupuncture, the lighter fare in the Healthy informal restaurant, the salt pool (slip in after dinner, no one is there) and get out and walk the track to enjoy wonderful cool blue skies. Rooms: We were fortunate to get a handicap room, which had larger spaces and bathroom. The rest was typical of well worn Royal Caribbean/Celebrity rooms. The room staff was good, as always. They work hard to please. They provided everything we asked for. Dining: We asked for a table for two and got it! Had to find the dining manager upon our arrival and he accommodated our request. We were spoiled the entire trip and were able to ask the wait staff about the best choices, knowing they were aware of what was good and what was fresh. Be sure to try the Healthier Fare dining offered on the ship. Especially great for lunch near the spa. Excursions: Most were well worth the money. One in the small boating town? Not worth visiting - dirty, and nothing to do. Travel: If you can access Upper Class accommodations on Virgin Airlines to travel to London, do it. Absolutely a unique experience from the moment you arrive in their boarding area. Made to order gourmet food in New York and everything else you can think of in London. We were able to use points and purchase points through American Express. Will do every time. Each Upper Class seat is a cocoon...way, way cool and comfortable. Read Less
