This was our first trans Atlantic. We had 7 sea days in a row. We lost one hour every night due to the time change. The good part was we had 7 days of the calmest water ever and sunshine every day. The bad part was that there was nothing offered that didn't include a sales pitch during the day unless it was trivia or bean bag tossing. After the 2nd day at sea we were flat out bored. We also noticed the lost hours and were more tired. We liked the sit down breakfast in the mornings and the service and food were great. Lunch got very repetitive and half the space was either Chinese or Curried dishes. When they did offer chicken or beef or pork, it was so dry that it was hard to chew. Salads were always fresh. Pizza was also good. Dinner at night went from excellent pork chops and pork tenderloins to terrible brown stuff they called steak. There was NO LOBSTER dinner. Sometimes, we just ate salad and appetizers. Desserts were some kind of jello and cake mixture. The crème brulee was good. The food and bar service was quite good after we found our favorite bar staff and favorite waiters. The room steward (Made) was very helpful and always smiling. Several of the dining crew seemed bored with their jobs and were talking among themselves instead of talking with passengers. We did not see the officers mingling with any passengers. At the Cruise Critic gathering - they lined up and were introduced - and promptly LEFT! It lasted 5 minutes! How poor! Fortunately, there were 2 people on board that were willing to step up and give a lecture about the lives of the US presidents and their wives. A BIG THANK YOU to Bill and Sue Wills! They did several lectures but they were not sponsored by the ship and you had to know about them from Cruise Critic in order to get the time and place. The production shows were very good. The comedians were actually funny. Some of the singers were screamers so we left. The ship is older and showing her age. Everything was clean, but our shower had some rust and the balcony door shimmied if it was windy and they had to shut off the water twice during port days to fix plumbing things. One of the minor annoyances was the lack of a drawer under the desk, and a lack of shelf space. There were 5 drawers and that would have been plenty for 7 days, but for 14 days - it was not enough. Ports were less than exciting. Madeira, Cadiz, Alicante and Malaga all looked alike. I guess we should have expected that, but after you see 2 or 3 forts/castles - we were done. Read Less

We picked this cruise as we had never been on a transatlantic cruise. The price was terrific. And we loved the itinerary. The crossing was very smooth, except for one day in between Madeira and Lisbon. When I say smooth, the ocean was like glass. This was terrific for us to do some sunbathing. There wasn’t a problem finding a deck chair ever. Infinity is an older ship, due to be refurbished. However it was clean. The cabin was a little tight, but probably no more than others we had been on. It did have the shower curtain rather than the door, but this wasn’t a problem. Dining was fine. We ate dinner mostly in the main dining room, except we did do the QSine experience, which was unique. We also ate once in the OceanView Cafe, because we just didn’t want to get dressed up and we were tired. The Ocean View Cafe we had great breakfasts and lunches, and the Pool Grill had great burgers. One thing I noted was there was only one place to get the ice cream in the Ocean View Cafe, and their was always a long line. Sometimes the soft serve machine is self serve, but it was also back behind the counter. Consequently plan on 15 minutes or so to get a cone. We only attended a couple of the shows. We very much enjoyed the classical group that played in varying places. I wish they would have scheduled the educational lectures a little later than 9 am. However the main asset of Infinity is its crew. Without fail, each member was smiling and helpful. The first evening in the lobby, we had a little trouble figuring out how to connect to the WiFi. The Hotel Director Vedran Jelavic was one of the crew that was circulating and was able to help us. I was very impressed that he took the time. Also we loved the bar staff at Cafe Al Bacio, Viktoria, Anca and Melissa were our bar waitresses and Elissa is an amazing bartender. My husband had hurt his hip (we later found out he has arthritis) but he had a lot of pain. Marny in the spa helped him with massages, and she suggested Acupuncture which also helped. Read Less

We boarded the ship in Ft Lauderdale and it was quick and easy. Our Concierge Cabin mid-ship on Deck 8 was a reasonable size, clean and comfortable with plenty of storage for our clothes and luggage. Our cabin steward, as usual, provided excellent service. The Atlantic crossing was so smooth you really didn't know you were moving. We enjoyed the cruise but feel some things are definitely slipping even in the twelve months since our previous cruise on the Constellation from Singapore to Rome. Some of the main issues were firstly food, especially in the Main Dining Room at night. Choice has become more and more limited and the quality has definitely got worse. On a number of nights I found myself ordering the salmon as there was really nothing else that appealed to me. We went to Qsine one night and whilst it was a fun one-off thing to do you certainly wouldn't keep going back there for the food, it just wasn't that good. Another issue in relation to the MDR was that about 3-4 days into the cruise a few men started wearing shorts to dinner and one night one of them turned up in a singlet top and shorts and was allowed in to dinner. I complained about this (as did a number of other passengers) and didn't see it happen again. There were a few guest speakers on board but they were always scheduled for 9.00 and 10.00 in the morning with the rest of the day given over to sales pitch type of presentations. On the first leg there was a Meet & Greet for Cruise Critic members and this was well attended. On the second leg, however, because there were only a couple of sea days, Celebrity held it on the first night at 7.45 pm. I realise it was a bad time for many people but it was rather embarrassing when only eight Cruise Critic members turned up to be greeted by ten Officers and crew. Over 50 people had signed up for this and it was very bad form that so few actually turned up. We had a booking for a Specialty Restaurant at 8.30 but still managed to attend the M&G for half an hour and I'm sure others could have done the same. Overall, we enjoyed the cruise and would definitely sail with Celebrity again as it is still one of our favourite cruise lines. I only hope they don't let their standards slip further. Read Less

We have sailed Celebrity many times as well as other lines. Embarkation- SLOW. Priority included so many, plus AQ etc. There were over 900 Elites and above on this sailing. So everyone had priority. Took about 45 min. Stateroom 1141 - AFT facing the wake on 11. Overlooks the sunset bar. (1 of 5) Oversized balcony is lovely. Under the overhang you cannot be seen from below or above. Once you step fwd--those on deck 12 can see you..and of course those eating downstairs/at the bar. View is outstanding. As an AQ cabin it still has the body jets/shower tower. Do not know if that will disappear during the revolution. Storage is a problem in the cabin. In the bathroom (as this is an old M class ship) there is no tower of shelving like S class. Nor is there the over the bed storage like S class. Stateroom NOISE was terrible. A daily problem with the movie tracks from the deck 12 venue. We and those on the cabins on either side of us regularly had to call GS to have them turn down the volume. There was also the issue of a female singer who thought herself on stage" as opposed to background vocals. Her "midi" which provides the thump thump was so loud that if she was performing (1pm/3pm/5pm daily) and a movie was running above (Jurrasic Park for example) then we couldn't hear eachother speaking. We were driven in and off our balcony on every sea day because of the noise. Stateroom Location-- easy to reach Blu via the back elevators. Easy to drop downstairs 1 floor for breakfast. Another problem besides noise is that people use the stairs/cut through to mid ship and often don't close the hall doors...or the air flow slams them shut. BLU Outstanding service apart from a terrible wine steward. The Maitre D runs a great restaurant and the servers are on top of their game. The wine steward was arrogant and ill prepared. He was also rude and offensive when we didn't attend his (FEE based) wine pairing. We had to get the Maitre D and head Wine Mgr involved. BLU food--often very good. Several times we did order parts of the meal off MDR menu. Easily done because being M class ship and kitchen/s dining room location. BLU staff does an excellent job to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated. We much prefer the smaller venue. Wine Cellar-- slow poor service... often very overwhelmed as this bar gets tapped for the dining rooms as well. Its a pass through. It was often empty--and still poor service Martini Bar-- Busy. Great service. Nice location and view. Entertainment- Several bands/groups were excellent. This is sailing dependent. The shows are corporate and run for a couple years a piece. Ocean View. Service and food always good. It is a BUFFET so it is just fine and never "excellent". Plenty of choices. Having the ice cream bar on one side and the small Al Bacio on the other to order specialty coffees is handy. Al Bacio-- always a pleasure. We did think some of the desserts were lacking compared to other sailings. Not sure how this happens when the menu is corporate. Ship overall is showing wear and tear. And layout/design shows its age...(M class) as ship designs have varied over the years. Noted wear on upholstery in the theater, stairwells etc. That said it was nothing that was outrageously egregious. PAX On this sailing the avg age was OLD Older and Oldest. Generally very old. We did see a couple of families with young children. (VERY well behaved) Silent Disco--super popular and heavily attended. Stage shows--packed and well received. Bridge/Games in Blu-- packed (many sea days on this sailing) Gym and Spa- the gym was often packed and sometimes people were just sitting on equipment... "stretching"... Used the PG once. Have to say that we wondered about how clean the tile is--with people sitting on it without towels. Spa staff was not overly helpful and they were pushy for sales which is a bummer. Enrichment--Behind the Podium. Excellent speaker -a MD who combined history and medicine--looking at interesting world events. The other speaker's background and subject matter was of no interest to us...and we never attended hers. Captains Club events. Several nice events over the course of 2 weeks including cocktail event, tours etc. One bummer was a "wine tasting" event. according to the Head Wine Mrg..60 RSVPd and more than 120 showed up. IMHO they should have only taken in those that RSVPd. To at the last minute set up for that many more--and with no verification of who they were/if they had RSVPd etc..it made the event for everyone far less appealing. Ports of Call-- Madeira, Lisbon, Cadiz (Seville), Malaga, Alicante, Barcelona. We did private excursions in Madeira and Lisbon. We did DIY in Malaga. Then a private bicycle tour in Alicante and then in Barcelona we had a tour with transfer to our hotel. We stayed in Barc for 3 days post cruise .Cadiz-Seville: Did a ship tour in Cadiz (Seville) that was an absolute disaster. It was supposed to be a "small group" tour. What made the day go so poorly was in large part to the very very very bad way Celebrity disembarked people for the tours. There were MANY who needed mobility assistance and then 100s trying to get to their tours/buses. We didn't actually get to our "small group" bus for 90 min PAST the time we were to leave for Seville. It was so bad that Celebrity made amends by discounting back a portion of the fees. Debarkation- super super simple. We believe got misinformation telling us that we (doing self assist) MUST get off the ship super super super early. We did. No lines. However we then had to sit outside waiting for our tour for almost 2 hrs. Given the way the traffic (pax etc) came out off the ship over the course of those 2 hrs.. I think we could have easily walked off with our small carry on/roller bags with no problems. Read Less

Reading the reviews about the Infinity made me a little concerned about the age of the ship being we were doing a transatlantic trip 8 days at sea and ending up in Portugal and Spain.I cannot understand how some people can complain about this ship. The trip over seas was exceptional the ride smooth and the staff wonderful. I cannot begin to say how wonderful the experience was. I think if your looking for problems you could find problems on any ship but if you go to enjoy yourself and the company your with then you can enjoy whatever ship you are on. Our room was spotless and our room stewart, Sergio, was the best, always willing to do anything we wanted and always doing it with a smile. We have done many cruises and we don't go on ships looking for things to complain about, but look for the good things..Our day consisted of Sergio greeting us in the morning then we would go up to the 10th floor for the breakfast buffet or down to 4th for a sit down breakfast. Each day we would play cards or join what ever activity offered for entertainment for the day. Lunch was always at the buffet which they had plenty to god food to offer for any appetite you felt like having. Then onto dinner WOW we never had a bad meal all 14 days. Marteo and Mart were great waiters on the 5th floor. My husband loves to eat and whatever he wanted it was given to him with a smile. Then onto the entertainment at night, the shows were outstanding we went to all of them. Then onto the casino which I have to say I won and came home with money..overall if your hellbent on finding problems you will, but really try hard to enjoy a wonderful trip on a great ship the infinity still has a lot of life in her even though she is old..we love it from beginning to the end , fantastic. The excursions were not the best..we had six stops and I would say out of six we four that were halfway desent..Hop on Hop off buses were not so good. Read Less

Folks have already written about different aspects of this 14 night cruise so I want to highlight just two- the very FUN Activities team headed by Brittany (sp? I hope right), and the wide variety of live entertainment My wife, Sue, and I are PARTICIPATORS; we dance, we play every trivia, attend every game and contest and see every single live entertainment that is offered. Heck, we want to get the most for our money. We both felt this activity team was one of if not the best we have come across. Brittany, Shirly, Ari, Chico( if I forgot to mention someone, I apologize) made simple trivias, silly contests and karaokes seem like entertainment events. I saw Ari take a simple Jenga contest between the crew and cruisers and turn it into what seemed like the most fun Olympic event of earth. Seriously the warmth and fun emanating from them could be felt--and we spent a LOT of time with them, especially Brittany and Shirly. Carlos was a great leader for the group. Live entertainment abounded (although there was no piano bar, darn)...two dance bands, a guitar and singer duo, solo guitariest, string duo, special gigs by the orchestra, and even a cruiser choir, which took a lot of time and committment from not only the cruisers, but the production show musical director. Thirteen live acts at night-comedy, magic, a mouth dropping arial act, solo entertainers, three production shows - the iBroadway which we saw twice. Plus there were five afternoon live shows. Sure we liked some less than others, but we were willing to experience them. I will add that we enjoyed the buffet better than the dining room. Of course my wife was disappointed with the small lobster dish in the main dining room (heck on our next ship we had NONE), but I had a very delicious beef Wellingon. Finally this will be a cruise we will remember as we are the couple mentioned by TXrangegal in an earlier review who made the presentations of US Presidents and their wives to our group of history buffs, I guess you could say. The cooperation we got from the staff was outstanding and we could not have done it without the event manager working hard for us. LOVED the many sea days and hope to save enough money for an even longer trip with more days at sea. Met so many fun people playing the trivias and contests, whom, although we will never cross paths again, this moment of brief intersection will always be remembered. Read Less

Back in 2010 we sailed to Panama on the Equinox but crossing the canal was not on the itinerary. We just did a land excursion with a stop at the Gatun Locks Observation deck (now closed). An opportunity had arisen to consider this 15 day cruise on the Infinity at a bargain price, and were happy to book it quickly. You can’t experience a Panama Canal crossing unless you are on the ship going through the locks. We flew from Toronto to Ft. Lauderdale for one night stay at the Best Western South Airport and cruiseport on Stirling Rd. Very good choice for pre-cruise. There is ample shopping and dining within walking distance. If you use Uber to get to the port, make sure you key in the proper pier location. Our driver followed GPS and brought us to a few wrong spots in the port. Having sailed several times on the Summit, coming aboard the Infinity felt like homecoming. Our Oceanview cabin 2056 was comfortable and kept immaculately clean by Wayan. The a/c fan rattle was repaired quickly. The cabin layout should be noted, since you don’t see this information on the Celebrity website. Our king bed (2 singles put together, with mattress topper added) was pushed against the 4 ft. round window. There was a useful night table on both sides of the bed. Reading light was adequate. There is also a small sofa convertible to a single bed, and two upper berths, making maximum space for 5. There is no connecting door, which I hoped will cut down on noise. There is only one half-size mirror above the desk, but no full length mirror anywhere. The fridge was emptied as requested, but it really did not cool much. I had to use the ice from the bucket, transferred to zip lock bags, to keep my drinks colder. The flat screen TV was rather small, and the interactive menu lacked many features found on the newer ships. Some buttons on the TV remote were not responding, so Wayan had a functioning replacement brought within minutes. The ship is constantly cleaned. Even cabin doors, door handles, hallway walls get sanitized wipes several time. The crew is just amazing. Helpful, friendly, attentive and engaging, even when busy. You can feel the camaraderie between them, and the sadness when they’re getting off after many months at sea. We had select dining, with prior reservations around 7 pm. On the second night we were seated by the window with waiter Ufuk his assistant Roy. We were so impressed with their service and the dining experience that we requested their station every night, and rarely had to wait. Even when dining alone, the gap between tables is small, and we had conversation companions almost every evening. I recall that there was no horseradish available for the prime rib on the first night. The maitre d’ came to apologize, and promised it will be available for the remainder of the cruise – which was true. (A new shipment was loaded on, but there was no time to unpack the boxes in time for dinner). Otherwise the food was very good to excellent quality, arriving at the proper temperature. For breakfast we liked the plentiful selections at the Oceanview Café. Dining in the aft watching the wake is what cruising is all about. Then we would head down to the Tuscan Grill, where there was a light breakfast for Elite level members. We came for the table service of fresh-squeezed juices, fresh cut fruits, specialty coffee and mimosas. I was pleasantly surprised to find the window shutters were adjustable, so daylight and Oceanview can be enjoyed. That was not the case on the Summit, where they are fixed, almost fully shut. One afternoon we were invited to dine in Blu for a special lunch prepared by chef Lama. Perhaps to recognize our loyalty to the Celebrity brand. There were about 50 people with a few of the ship’s top officers. It was a delicious buffet and made us feel very special. The entertainment was generally good, with a couple of truly enjoyable performances by Salvatore Hasard and comedian Ed Regine. The cruise director Shawna was infectious with her enthusiasm. The enrichment speakers were well prepared and gave informative and entertaining presentations. Unfortunately, when Bill Fall was narrating during the canal crossing, there were many locations on the ship where the volume was hardly audible. Disembarkation in San Diego was orderly on the ship, but the terminal had issues with intersecting people and luggage wagons being unloaded. Lines moved quickly, and within a short time we were walking out of the terminal straight to our hotel, Best Western Bayside. Read Less

We read the reviews about Celebrity Infinity being an older ship and expected to see some signs of aging and stress. To our surprise the ship was immaculate and looked modern and new! I learned the ship had been renovated a few years ago and the first indication of weathering we noticed was apparent on the interior of the tenders. If you looked hard you could find an occasional blemish on a counter top or on the bottom of the hot tubs but overall you had to give credit for this crew to keep a ship this old sparkling. The food, the service, and the style of the main dining room exceeded our expectations. We originally planned to eat at a few of the specialty restaurants during the cruise but had such a good experience at the Trellis that we went there all 14 nights. My only regret is not taking one night to experience the 3D show at the Qsine as so many passengers were telling us it was great fun. My last comment has to be on the entertainment. The ship's dancers, orchestra, and band were top notch and the guest entertainers ranged from good to great. Overall, the entertainment and the Cruise Director were as good as any ship we've sailed. The itinerary of the cruise up the pacific coast to Vancouver was exactly what we wanted and in spite of a disaster on another cruise on the sister ship (Summit) we booked. From the embarkation at the port of San Diego, which was almost like a third world country port, to the embarkation in Vancouver was a tribute to total ineptitude. We had a dining room table for 11 but from the first night till the 5th nite on a10 day cruise one other couple and ourselves where the only one to actually dine. We asked repeatedly to have us moved to another smaller table but they refused.. Finally on the 8th day they moved us to another table and had another gentleman from open dining join us for the remainder of the cruise. We had booked over $1000 in excursions throughout the cruise. Each and Every one was a disaster. Misinformation, misdirection to meeting places etc.. They took us to Solvang California at 9:30 AM and the stores didn't open until 10:00AM. One excursion was scheduled for 9:30 AM and we received notice at 8: AM the same day that the cruise had been moved to 2:30PM after we had gotten up at 6:30AM in order to make the original departure time. We received so much credit back for complaints that we had enough to buy a new iPad and pay for a medical visit to the ships Dr. The Summit and the Infinity had noted they were refurbished recently but the Summit had spots and stains all over the upholstery in the Dining room and rust everywhere on both ships. They did update the area they added for the Blu Restaurant and the Aquaclass rooms but the rest were sorely neglected. Us plebians deserve some perks too!!!!! When we had to "tender"in several ports, I was almost afraid to get on the tender because of their poor condition and filthy windows and rust everywhere. I know this must sound lik esour grapes but we are faithful Celebrity cruisers and enjoy their cruises. We are booked on the new Edge in February and will be taking it again on a transatlantic in 2019 with a transatlantic in the fall of 2019, so we do love Celebrity. We hope that these heralded renovations of the older ships include these two ships or they should take them our of service!!!!! Read Less

Overall solid cruise. Friendly staff. Luigi (Cruise Director) Lauren and Chico (Activities) were all great and extremely personable. Dining room was great — I tried a lot of the fish, lamb, pork. Didn’t go for any of the up-charge dining rooms, although they pushed them a lot. Dining staff worked their tails off as usual to accommodate people. Ship is easy to navigate -- it's a good size, not a 'mega ship'. Cabin 3049 (inside) was small and a bit smelly and showed wear, but was very quiet and dark, so easy to sleep. The location was very convenient, near the gangways and not far from the main atrium and show theater. The thelassotherapy mineral pool near the spa is free and a real bonus! My favorite thing to do in the late afternoon was go and relax in the this mineral pool and then the sauna in the locker room, which has a large round window that looks out on the waves. Disappointing there wasn’t a formal tea (unless you are one of the more elite passengers). They do however put out tea items in the buffet restaurant in the late afternoon. Good itinerary—mostly did our own thing. Tendered twice, which went smoothly with the use of a ticket system. Lots of Americans, Canadians and Brits on board, several Europeans. I felt there could have been more daytime activities. It seemed like they had few activities, but they were very crowded because there weren't a lot of choices. My favorite thing was the 'silent disco'. Evening shows could have been more varied -- lots of singers -- but they were all excellent entertainers. The show theatre was never packed, which was nice. Easy to get a seat. The ‘show after the show’ in the Constellation Lounge is where Celebrity really shines! Embarkation in San Diego was long — 2 hours on your feet! Everyone complained about it. Disembarkation was easy. We stored our luggage at the port in Vancouver, spent the day there and then flew home later that day. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary, we had never visited any of these ports before and were looking forward to new places to see. After a long 10.5 hr flight we cleared US customs in record time and as we had booked the Celebrity package were taken to our hotel. As scheduled we were collected from our hotel and transferred to the port again this was part of our package. we then had to stand in line for a very long 2.5 hours to check in this is a totally unacceptable length of time to stand in line. As Elite Captain Club members we have never waited more than 20 mins to check in. The long wait at check in meant that by the time we had put our hand luggage in the stateroom and freshened up lunch was nearly over. we were in Stateroom 7015, not a location I would choose again. The stateroom itself was fine with amply hangers and drawers but the cut backs were very noticeable. Once again we chose the select dining option, which suits our needs however we were unable to make reservations for the time we wanted 7.30, and had to turn up and wait. this brings me to my other main complaint DRESS CODE or lack of it Since doing away with "FORMAL NIGHTS" and introducing "ELEGANT CHIC" the dress code on these nights is none existent, with guests in the main dining room in shorts & t shirts and although I did complain to the MD who met me on the second of these nights to assure me the dress code would be followed it wasn't. The food in the main dinning room was as good as it always has been with a varied choice and the staff were always friendly and helpful. I really loved the fact that the pool was heated this was a real plus as the weather was cooler than I expected. The shows we went to were very enjoyable and the public areas as usual were spotlessly clean we enjoyed spending sea day in the constellationlounge spotting whales and food the rendezvous lounge very relaxing. Once again our favourite place was the cafe on 5 this is always a the best place on the ship. Read Less

The ship is in bad need of a complete overhaul. We ran on one engine most of our 16 day cruise as the other engine blew on previous cruise. Our ports of call, with the exception of Panama Canal and Cayman Islands, were awful. We had a really bad experience on a ship excursion beach trip in Manta Ecuador. Everyone on the trip complained but they would only refund 50% of the cost of the trip even though they admitted it was very bad. This was our first and last cruise on Celebrity. It’s back to RCL for us! Celebrity is NOT a step up from RCL as we’d been told. They don’t know how to take care of their passengers! The food was very mediocre but the entertainment was good most nights. I thought the crew seemed tired and ready for a break. We are diamond members on RCL and were elite on Celebrity. We were given coupons to be used in the lounge between 5-7 for 3 drinks per person. Never had that before. Read Less

This could have been a great cruise with some better speakers and more information. Previous cruises have included port talks and also guest speakers to talk about the civilisations and culture of the various regions, but this cruise had none of that. The dining room food and service was excellent as always. The cabin was good. The shows were very good and of a very high standard. There was too much emphasis on selling services . We were delayed leaving SAN Antonio but the captain caught up on the lost time and we arrived in our next port on time. The ports of Arica, Pisco and Lima were wonderful but I didn’t think much of Manta, this is probably my fault because we didn’t do an excursion in Manta, there is nothing to see except a small Artisan market. The ship is looking very old with rust showing everywhere, and the public areas are starting to look shabby.. Read Less

We usually cruise with Royal Carribean, but this itinerary appealed to us as a way back from a South America trip, so we decided to see what Modern Luxury is all about while wearing our Diamond Plus Royal Caribbean goggles. We have four previous cruises with Celebrity, the first ten years ago, and we thought we knew what to expect. EMBARKATION: Embarkation in San Antonio, Chile, was interesting. It is a commercial port trying to be a cruise terminal. After an hour and a half bus ride from the Santiago airport and checking in at a warehouse near the edge of the port, we were loaded onto yet another bus for a ride to the ship at the dock. We’ve seen better and we’ve seen worse, so we just went with the flow. We were in our cabin by 1:30 PM and our bags were delivered around 4:00 PM. CABIN: The cabin, 7049, was clean and comfortable. With more storage space than we needed – a first. Situated next to the hump cabins, we had an extra large, shaded balcony. The balcony door did not have a handle on the outside, just a slot to grab and pull the door open. The door was hard to open without a handle, but since it was designed that way, we lived with it. The toilet decided not to work in the middle of the night 4 out of the 15 nights on the cruise. Guest Relations said it was a known issue and they were working on it. CREW: Every crew member we encountered was smiling and said good morning or good evening – from restroom attendants to senior officers. Wait staff were attentive and efficient. Whomever is in charge of setting up disembarkation for port days did not do such a good job in Manta - more on that later. DINING: Oceanview Cafe – We disliked the Oceanview Café because it is so crowded with people wandering around trying to assemble a meal that it’s like the “Zombie Apocalypse” - as one fellow passenger described it. There is no clear delineation of flow for the serving lines and people just butt in where they please. We avoided eating meals there. When we did stop in for a snack, we noticed that the wooden chairs needed a good cleaning – there was so much dirt crusted on the back of one chair that I scraped some off to show one of the supervisors and merely received a shrug in response. MDR – We used the MDR for a few breakfasts and lunches just to steer clear of the buffet. A table for two may as well be a table for four, six, eight, or more since they are jammed together so closely that one cannot walk between the table. Service was good and the menu selections standard. We also ate some breakfasts and lunches in the Solarium Café, where it was easy to get a table and the selections were more healthful than other venues. The MDR in the evening was not at all pleasant and we only dined there on 10 of the 15 nights, opting for specialty dining on the other five evenings. The tables are very close and the other diners, probably deaf from the over-amplified music venues, seemed to shout their conversations during the meal. Shouting waiters added to the din. Not at all a pleasant atmosphere. The food, however was very good, well presented, and right-sized portions. Had the food not been so good, we would have avoided the MDR in the evenings because of the noise levels. Specialty dining – We ate in Qsine only once. The Qsine food was delicious but the menu on the electronic tablets was hard to understand and the waiter did little to help explain what was an appetizer and what was a main. Give me a regular menu. Sushi on 5 was wonderful, with a very attentive waiter and a wide variety of sushi to choose from. The Tuscan Grill was our favorite and we ate three evening meals there, and enjoyed a light morning breakfast and specialty coffee drinks there on most mornings. We enjoyed the atmosphere and service of the Specialty Dining venues, especially when compared to the MDR and Oceanview. ENTERTAINMENT: Since this varies from ship to ship, I won’t go into detail. The production shows were very good – but too over-amplified to be pleasant. Earplugs helped. The guest entertainers were also very good and not quite as over-amplified. PORTS: We booked the cruise primarily as transportation back from a land tour in South America, and not for the ports of call. We did walk around in Arica, Chile, and Georgetown, Grand Cayman, but did not book any excursions. The stop in Manta, however, is worth noting. Having been there before, we were undecided about going into town for a look around. The ship announced that free shuttle buses would be provided from the ship to the town center/shopping area. After the announcement was made that the gangway was open, we went down to the promenade deck to see how long the line for the shuttles was and determine if we should wait a while. There was no line – only a large mob of approximately 250-300 people waiting for the yet-to-appear shuttle buses. Celebrity did nothing to establish or control a line. When the first shuttle bus arrived, the mob surged and all 300 people tried to get on the first bus. We saw a fight breakout at the steps to the bus and one man trying to pull another man off the second step of the bus. At that point I ran down to Guest Relations and told them they needed to get security out there and that one fight had already broken out. I went back outside to the promenade to watch the most unorganized shuttle bus system I had ever witnessed. We decided to avoid the melee and have a peaceful day on the ship. One would think that Celebrity had never organized a port day or a shuttle bus system before. It was certainly a poor example of Modern Luxury. CHAIR HOGS: The Infinity made a feeble attempt to cut down on chair hogs with a few little folded placards placed on the pool and solarium loungers in the mornings, however with no enforcement, the chair hogs just pushed the placards aside and set up camp. I witnessed chair hogs “reserving” loungers and sunbeds as early as 6:00 AM, using a variety of towels, flip flops, magazines, paperbacks, and large plastic clips to hold the towels in place. Often those same loungers were “reserved” hours later – and on port days “reserved” all day long until the hogs returned from their excursions. Not once did I see any of the pool staff removing the chair hog nests. With no enforcement in place, more and more people started “reserving” loungers and sunbeds. Another poor example of Modern Luxury. DISEMBARKATION: Disembarkation from the ship in Fort Lauderdale was well organized, until we reached the Customs and Immigration lines. There were four agents to process some 2,100 passengers. Signs for “US and non-US” were not apparent and there was insufficient line management so that yet another mob formed adjacent to the bag retrieval area. We settled down in some chairs to wait out the mob, and only later discovered the mob was trying to get through the “Non-US” lines and the “US” line was almost empty. We gathered our bags and were through the immigration check in under 10 minutes – happily leaving the growing “Non-US” mob to be processed by only two agents. No wonder the Fort Lauderdale port has such a bad reputation on Cruise Critic. CONCLUSION: After watching Royal Caribbean turn into floating county fairs, and with Celebrity losing their “premium” luster to the mass market, it’s time to expand our horizons and find cruise lines that cater to grownups and offer a more genteel way to cruise. We choose this cruise for the itinerary and we are very glad we did. Yes, there we many sea days, but we found them relaxing because touring on the days in port were long and tiring. For us, it was a good mix. The Panama Canal with its expert narration by Bill Fall was outstanding. We have sailed on this ship before and loved it. This time the entertainment was poor and the food was lacking in quality. Service was excellent in the dining room and in the lounges. Our cabin steward was pleasant and very attentive. There was one hour of good entertainment (Celebrity Showtime) every evening. Most of the other things going on around the ship listed in the daily newsletter were just talks and seminars geared towards ways to spend your money. Embarkation was poorly organized. We have cruised on all of Royal Caribbean's big ships and embarkation took minutes to get all 4000 to 6000 passengers signed up and onboard. Celebrity is part of the RCI brand and should copy Royal Caribbean's efficient embarkation process. I would not take the Celebrity Infinity again. The ship is lovely and a little "tired" but without good entertainment and good food, we'll stay with Royal Caribbean. Read Less

We chose the cruise because we wanted to sail the Panama Canal. Yes, the Infinity is one of the older ships in the fleet but is well kept. Nothing to keep me from the enjoying the cruise. Embarkation-Lines seemed to be longer than usual. I thought Captain club elites had some sort of priority embarkation but I did not see it. The Panama was the main attraction and the day long passage was well narrated. That was the best part. We did not especially enjoy the other ports and I will briefly mention them. Cayman Islands-Had to be tendered in. The port has become a dwelling place for all of the companies that line most of the cruise ports now. That is one of my pet peeves. They edge out what we came for Manta--The offers a free shuttle to to a square that offers all sort of local trinkets to buy. Included are Panama hats for $20 up. American dollars are accepted. If you did not purchase an excursion, then taxis are offered to the Monticristo around $20 but is negotiable. Took a picture of the Manta sign. Note-much of the Pacific coast was recently devastated by earthquakes a year or so ago Lima-Ship docks at least a 45-60 minute ride provided by the ship-in heavy traffic. Free ship shuttle. You are dropped off at a very nice mall. There, you have to fight your way through a mob of people offering taxi services.-Beware. If you want a taxi walk through the mall to the other street to the real taxi stand. BEWARE-all taxi prices are negotiable and make sure they are talking about Sols or dollars. You can go to most areas that you want to travel for $10. But they may quote $30. They will take $10. One pretended he didn't have change and one slipped us a counterfeit bill as change. And they drive lake mad people. But we did see what we wanted. Pisco-You dock at the edge of a desert-Maybe 20 minutes out of town. We took the excursion to the Baracas islands and enjoyed. From there we could also see the Candleabra formation. That afternoon we took it he free shuttle into town-not Pisco but an area called El Chapo. Arica-The market featuring local items is located right off the dock. You can either hike or ride a taxi up the top of the large rock right beside (El Moro?) Sort of liked it. San Antonio-made arrangements with Viator for ride into Santiago and stayed for 3 nights. Cost $90 pp for 2 people. As low as $60 pp for 6 If there is no other opportunity, our cabin steward (Fatkul) was very good. The food in the Blu was great and the service in there was special. All of the staff works in tandem. Entertainment-Mostly very good. The comedian and the juggler-comedian were the best. The magician was average at best. There was a lounge style singer one night that was not good at all. The impersonator was good. The shades Bluble" On the first night were good. Male pianist was good. Female pianist great talent, but I did not especially enjoy the arrangements . The violinist was very entertaining. The Whitney Houston singer was good. There was some male gaucho type dancers on the last night that grew old after a while. Lastly, The ship dancers and singers As well as the aerialists were good. I have probably missed some. Stayed in Aqua room. Will return Feb 23 to almost same cabin for the Antartica cruise. Disembarking-Was off the ship and through customs in minutes. Our driver was waiting. Positives-I was pleased with the value of my cruise. I bought it long ago and we paid several thousand less than some in the same type room. Shop wisely. Negatives-Why does this ship as well as most others have Park West art auctions that basically offers up crap that they call art? Why would anyone purchase diamonds,jewelry and other stuff on board that is as cheap or cheaper at your own home. Example-Jack Daniels was $25 on board and $20 at a drug store at home. Read Less

I'll try to go from start to finish: Pre-Cruise: We arrived in Fort Lauderdale a few days early. We were flying on points so this was the best date we could get. We stayed at Embassy Suites and when we arrived to drop our bags at 12 our room was ready! Bonus. Great place to stay, near lots of restaurants, shopping and the port. We took the water taxi and enjoyed hopping on and off. We ended up taking the shuttle to the port because it was there. It would have been cheaper to take a taxi. Embarkation: If you were concierge class and above, then embarkation would have been a quick and smooth experience. If you were in steerage, then embarkation took over an hour for some. We arrived at 11:15 and were in line for one hour. Some people were in much longer. Cabin: We had the best cabin steward ever - Edy! Our veranda cabin was kept spotless. He didn't bother us when the do not disturb sign was on but managed to clean it when we were out. We love balconies and used it a lot. Activities: I found enough to keep busy. I enjoyed the lectures but some were way too early - 9 am! It would have been cool to have the lecture on the night sky up on the rooftop terrace in the evening. We participated in a few activities, I did the blendtique workshop - a bit rushed but I enjoyed it. I also participated in the Old World wine tasting. People weren't really tasting but gulping the wine like no tomorrow, some pretty happy folks afterwards. I managed to go to the very nice but crowded at times gym. Well equipped and everyone using it was very considerate. Dining: We had anytime dining, some nights we sat with strangers, others we sat with cruise critic friends. The food and service was hit or miss. The menu was a bit boring IMO. We did QSine with others from Cruise Critic...great service, great food - just too much of it. Our waiter did a great job managing all of us. One night hubby and I went to Tuscan Grill - we enjoyed the food and service. We did the buffet a few nights, just didn't feel like sitting and eating for 2 hours. Very good. Ports: Ok here is a word of caution. We had an active roll call. Two members offered some tours at pretty good prices. I signed us up. There were some odd things - the organizers wanted payment up front on the second sea day. They didn't show up to the cruise critic gathering. Usually the organizers ask for payment on the day of the tour and make an effort to show up the cruise connections party or the sailaway. Everyone else had similar suspicions. I sign up for the roll call tours as they are usually a smaller group. I should have checked when I kept seeing openings offered, but I assumed others had cancelled. Turns out that there were 3 - 4 busses on these tours! None of the busses saw the same things. Some were very upset, I could have let myself get upset (DH was!) but made the best of it. Note to self, check the numbers before you sign up. Grand Cayman: We didn't organize anything as we've been here before. The ship had to tender us to a different dock due to "high waves". But all the taxies and busses were waiting. We ended up near Calico Jacks. 2 loungers and an umbrella cost $15. The van was $7 each. We got a bucket of beers and had a pleasant day at the beach. Panama Canal: Amazing. The ship would not let people on the helipad at first due to the rain, but didn't mind crowds balancing precariously on the stairs! I was watching the helipad situation on the TV, as soon as I saw officers posing for photos, I knew they would open it. Being on deck 6, I went to the boarding area in the Theatre on Deck 5 and was one of the first on! Great day, we had a good lecuturer explaining the sites. I walked all over the ship taking photos, front and back. The roof top terrace was also an uncrowded but great spot to take photos. Manta, Ecuador: One of the roll call tours. The hike in the rain forest was good but may have been physically taxing for some. We saw and heard the monkeys. It was at the Pachoce Nature reserve. Then a quick drive to Montechristi, sadly we did not get out at the site overlooking the town. But did have 45 minutes to explore and shop in town. Lima, Peru: Well if you weren't on a ship tour, things were challenging. Private tours were not permitted in port. They had the choice of meeting you at a shopping mall 30 minutes away or at a taxi stand just outside the port. The guide thought it was best to meet 3 busloads worth of people at the taxi stand. However the port shuttle had two vans holding 8 people! You can imagine the line. In the end, Celebrity provided the bus to ease the line up. The taxi stand wasn't in the nicest of areas. The next day we arranged to meet the tour at the mall. Much better. However on day 2, many of the group members skipped the tour. Too bad, day 2 was much better then day 1. Pisco, Peru: I semi-arranged a flight over Nazca Lines. Due to all the personal information required for the flight, I just had everyone contact the operator themselves. Our favourite part of the cruise! You read about them, but once you see them - they are amazing. We had to retrieve our passports from Guest Services, we got them right away the day before, others had to battle it out. We were in a 12 seat Cessna - good thing I took some Dramamine! On the way back we stopped to take photos of a flock of flamingos. We had the option to get off in Paracas, but we were tired as there was more port stress, however I managed to tell the tour operator about it so they had everything arranged when we got off - they reserved a shuttle for our group of 10, which drove us 5 minutes to the parking lot where the van was waiting. Arrica - another roll call tour. But I really enjoyed it, a stroll up the coast - for some reason our group didn't get to see the caves - others did. But we went into the desert and visited an Olive Farm. San Antonio replaced Valpairiso. This time only one bus. We got to visit a winery, see around the area and have a great lunch at a little roadside restaurant. We all got dropped off at our various hotels before the rest were driven to the airport. We spent a 2 days in Santiago - I'd arranged some tours with Stamp's which went very well. Final Thoughts: The roll call was very active and the Cruise Connections party well attended. I met some great people and all in all I really enjoyed myself. You will encounter glitches when travelling, but if you don't make the best of it, then you will ruin your vacation. Read Less

Wow, this was a fantastic journey, through the Panama Canal and down the Pacific Coast of South America. We called at working comme4cial ports, and sat alongside freighters, all kinds of cargo ships and thousands upon thousands of shipping containers. This was our 11th Celebrity cruise and defintely one of the best! we had a great Aqua Class stateroom, perched up on the rear portion of deck 11, allowing for great views and lots of quiet. Our stateroom attendant was by far, the best attendant we have experienced. Aqua class guests dine in Blu restaurant. Therefore, we enjoyed an intimate, casual setting and some truly delicious meals. Althoug( our menu choices were limited, compared to the MDR, we were never at a loss for choosing tasty dishes. The fish and seafood were particularly delicious. Ditto any of the myriad of duck and lamb dishes. But, again, it was the serving team, from the charming hostess, to the maitre d, the waiter, the assistamt and all of the bus people. I have never experienc3d such a consistently high level of service, with charm, no attitude and a desire to make everything perfect. As is often the case, only the sommelier stood out as a weak member of the dining room staff. Although the Infinity is an old ship, and the outside paint job showed its age, the interior spaces and staterooms appeared to be well maintained. It was clear that new carpet had recently been installed in most public areas. Seating around the pool was ample and comfortable, and the spa and spa pool area were spot on and comfortable. Shore excursions were expensive, and proved to be a mixed bag. We had one particularly bad excursion in Arica, Chile. Although it is not a well known tourist spot, and not a regular port of call, we though we had the right to have an English speaking guide on a 90$, 4 hour tour. Apparently we thought incorrectly, as our guide was at a loss for explain8ng the sights in understandable English. On the negative side, check in at the start of the cruise was disgusting. We waited for more then an hour to check in at the Fort Lauderdale terminal. Definitely not enough check in staff and what seemed like confusion and lack of experience. Information regarding our disembarkation was poor, and a change in final port, from Valparaiso to Sant Antonio was poorly handled. So both the beginning anfd the end of the journey were odd, having nothing to do with ship or ship crew, but everything to do with corporate Celebrity. However, the good parts of this trip far outweighed the few negatives. Read Less

The ports were interesting, learned about Tequila and coffee in 2 of the ports, and in Colon watched ships going through the canal. We ate dinner in the main dining room. The food was generally great, except for some of the vegetarian dishes. the Spa cafe was a disappointment. Food was mediocre and no hot food. Went on another Celebrity cruise and the spa cafe served grilled fish for lunch, great!! but not on this one. Only cold wraps and salad. this ship is over 15 years old and in need of maintenance in the rooms and some care. With the first view of the ship I noticed that it needed painting and general care outside. I guess I am spoiled by RCCI and the care that the Captain for "His" ship. This care was not evident on this cruise. Found out that Captains are rotated every 3 months, so there is no "ownership" of the vessel. Also found that the brochure description of the cabin was mistaken. Read Less

The food and beverage experience on this ship was perhaps the best we have ever had on any cruise, however, the ship is badly in need of a major refurbishment. Cabin furniture and many public areas are looking very tired. Having said that, the crew was almost universally friendly, attentive and wanting to make our cruise experience better. The ports were generally excellent with the exception of Colon, which was a dump. In our opinion we should have sailed straight from the Panama Canal to Cartagena, which other than the canal was the highlight of the cruise. We don't take ships' tours but had a few good tours on this cruise, with the exception of Puerto Quetzal, where the tour arranged through Tour Excursioneers to Antigua and a spa was poorly organized and overpriced. Our tour with Marelvy in Cartagena was excellent, as was our tour from Puntarenas. Again the only negative was the ship, which is in very bad shape. Read Less

The magician was outrageously funny and accomplished. The aerialists were an unexpected surprised - like watching ballet. Couldn’t believe how big the work out area was. Lots of machines, free weights and awesome views off the bow. The observation lounge had the best view I’ve every experienced. Awesome sail away views in Vancouver and Seattle. Butler service for the Royal Suite was superb - our every request cheerfully fulfilled. Can’t save enough about Singh who was personable and articulate and intelligent without a hint of subservience. Qsine was the best food by far that I’ve had on a cruise ship and rivals onshore restaurants. Tuscan was also very good with an excellent steak for me. Luminaire was an excellent choice. Best food overall for any cruise that we have taken. Read Less

I enjoyed eating in Blu every breakfast and dinner and the food is great! The ports were interesting, except for Astoria, OR. I loved Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Monterey and Santa Barbara was my favourite port. I'd move there in a minute is it weren't so expensive. I could not believe the real estate prices. Weather was beautiful in every port. First two nights were stormy and rough but after that, the cruise was smooth. I did book a future cruise for another pacific northwest cruise in Sept. 2018 on the Solstice and I'm looking forward to it very much. We chose this cruise based on a great past cruise with Celebrity and the itinerary which included nine ports in eleven days. Sadly, the quality of service, food, food presentation and entertainment have all gone way downhill since our last cruise. From embarkation in San Diego to returning to the ship after our last full day in Victoria BC, we encountered problems literally every other day. Most were small, but annoying and took time to resolve. Celebrity is in the service business, but seems to have made changes strictly to make more profit for them. Examples: Room towels were of lesser quality than a Holiday Inn Express. Celebrity now allows select members of the ship's crew to dine with guests in the Oceanview Cafe. No more midnight buffet's or even finally evening midnight buffet with ice sculptures. And, the chairs and tables in the Cafe really show their age and need updating. But who cares, it is where the buffet is served. Entertainment included a very mediocre juggler/magician as a main act. I could go on, but what is the point. Celebrity only cares to get you on board and then sell you everything they can. That is there focus. The even messed up two "Special Events" that we were celebrating including my 60th birthday on a day we were at sea. Why ask if you are celebrating special occasions on the cruise, and then mishandle and miss entirely, the special occasion? Yet, this is what Celebrity has become. Poor trained, poor managed staff that can only apologize for problems and put band-aids on them, rather than doing something to change the experience and make it better. Mind you there were a few shining stars who tried really hard, but this was a long and expensive cruise and the overall on board experience was not a positive one. Read Less

We took this cruise due to our desire to stay in the US and Canada (chronic medical issues). The itinerary was excellent (San Diego; Santa Barbara; Monterey; Astoria; Seattle; Nanaimo; Victoria; Vancouver). The crew were outstanding -- almost everyone made that "little extra effort" that made our time enjoyable. We did the open dining option for the first time and really enjoyed it. Our party of 4 was able to sit alone at a table of 4 for every dinner meal (as requested). Diversity of food selections (including vegetarian options) were very good; presentation was exceptional and quality was good. Other meals were mostly in the Ocean Grille buffet, which was also very good, although it seemed to get a bit monotonous by the end of an 11-day cruise. (I missed having any Mexican or Tex-Mex selections the entire cruise). Tip: if you want a kind of jelly other than strawberry or orange marmalade, go to the Trellis dining room for breakfast (blackberry and grape). Our party's cabins were typical concierge class cabins. One of us paid to have Aqua class and the relaxation room on the Infinity was a huge disappointment -- dark and damp and dank -- not at all like the photo on the Celebrity site. I would not bother again. Beds were comfy but awfully narrow if you are used to a king-sized bed. The room on the Ninth deck (9102) had frequent sewage smells, coming from the toilet and from the deck (outside). No other complaints about cabins. The concierge was outstanding. My husband forgot a prescription at home. We first checked with a nurse on board who checked to see if they stocked it on the boat (no); she was not very helpful. The concierge helped us call out doctor back in our home state and we were able to pick up a new prescription at the next port. The photographers seemed younger and more timid than the ones I have encountered on previous ships. They were not asking to take your photos all the time -- which may be good or bad depending on your point of view. We saw three evening shows -- we left the first one because the singing was horrible. The next two shows were entertainers who were not from the ship -- they were both g-rated and top quality (a magician who used mechanical items and a musical impersonator). Unlike past cruises, there was very little planned on board for people to do. Not sure if this was because it was a repositioning cruise, but it was a bit boring. Lots of library users! The average age on this particular cruise was at least 65. No kids, no teens and almost no one under age 50. Lots of canes, wheelchairs, oxygen, etc. Read Less

Pick this because of the unique schedule of ports going up the west coast to Vancouver. Celebrity Elite cruisers. Third cruise on the Infinity, from its first days in Alaska to South America and this one. Guest entertainment was very good. On board production shows were a little bit rough. Live band at shows was great. Lack of music around ship pre-dinner was noticeable. When there was good lounge entertainment the room (s) were packed. Late night constellation events were sparsely attended. Lack of daytime "enrichment events" was topic of discussion among regular Celebrity cruisers. Regular Cruise Director was off ship until San Francisco, Nacho did great job filling in. Once Alejandro was back there were less announcements and little communication except at the end of the nightly main shows. Cruise Director TV was of no value to watch. There was an attempt a sailaway party on the helipad out of San Francisco......just a bit too cool and windy (and foggy). Most left helipad once ship moved from berth. Did speciality dining in Tuscan on final night of cruise. WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT! Service from our waiter was great, everything else, including the food was bland. The room is not very inviting (cold-stark), not a $45 upgrade environment. Main Dining room had much more atmosphere and "life". Celebrity has too many large tables for the way they do anytime dining........all two tops were given beepers----3, 4, 5, 6....no wait, unless you wanted to join a large table of 2's. Read Less
