We chose the Reflection since we have been on other Celebrity Cruises and this ship did not disappoint! Celebrity Cruises is our niche. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays and the staff was ready for the first night of festivities for New Years. Embarkation was really nice. We had a Concierge level cabin and were greeted and placed in a separate lounge at the pier. Then we were escorted onboard before the regular class cabins New Years Eve was great. There were several parties going on before midnight and we were able to hop from one to another ending up at the pool for the midnight finale. They dropped the 2016 ice block into the pool and placed the 2017 up in its place. The rest of the cruise went without a hitch. Some of the highlights were the Lawn Club Grill, a must do participative dinner. Also the Silent disco was a huge hit. We had so much fun. We like Celebrity due to its classier style and dressy/casual evenings . Also seems to attract an experienced, diverse and well to do traveler. Wish they had 21 and older sailings. THIS IS FOR CELEBRITY TOUR STAFF Jamaica - We went on the Dunns River Falls and river tubing tour with the ship - this is the only time we felt uncomfortable on the trip. At the end of the tour they make you walk through the marketplace. There is no option. There were sellers trying to put items in our hands, when we refused they stated " Are you afraid of us " . Strange comment. There should be an exit option without the marketplace. We were also asked in a survey if the guides asked for a tip. We said they did not ask but then at the busses they had followed us and started asking and pointing to the people who did not tip after we had already taken the survey. So the guides figured out how to go around the survey and harass some of the people on our bus. Glad we had tipped ! Read Less

First time we were away for Christmas and choose Celebrity because we love the line. Service was great as usual although there were a few hiccups in the MDR a few nights, but that is to be expected considering it was Christmas. The bar service was terrific and the ship was clean the steward service was great. Pool stewards however need to enforce the rules, there were several loungers that had towels on them for practically the entire day with no one actually using them which was made worse on sea days. We didnt really go to any shows but form what we heard they were very good, the silent disco was a huge success and great fun. Embarkation was a breeze and the welcome on board was with a cheery smile and very friendly, the staff always said hello and were cheerful and welcoming, we never had a bad experience with any of them and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was good as was the choice, however i would suggest that the try to offer a greater variety over the 7 days and not repeat meals over the week. The variety in the buffet was good and I for one am happy to see that the variety has been slightly reduced to stop waste. I would like to see more variety in the shops, as far as general merchandise is concerned. Read Less

Firstly a bit about us: we are 45 (husband and wife) who loves to travel and cruise, we are not hard to please people, we like the beach, we like to drink a little, we normally cruise as a couple but sometimes we cruise as a family (with 2 kids currently 19 and 21) and sometimes with our friends. We live in Australia but we were born in Portugal and Brazil. This was our 7th cruise. We booked this cruise 10 days before departure, it was a last minute decision we booked the last cabin available being an inside cabin (1055 level 10) and we paid AUD$5,900.00 for it. I have heard hat Celebrity was on the same level as Princess Cruises (we cruised with Diamond Princess and we really liked the ship and the service) and a level higher than Royal Caribbean (we did Radiance, Rhapsody and Voyager) so I was expecting a beautiful ship,with great amenities and outstanding service. It was a Christmas, new years and my husband birthday. Because we are Paltinun level on RC (almost emerald) we had the "Select" tier on Celebrity. Upon arrival, around 3pm, we boarded without any delays or queues, as almost everyone were already in the ship. We went direct to our room. The room was a good size, and good set up, the only improvement would be a nice picture frame or a mirror on the wall opposite the door to give some focal point as one opens the door. The shower whithout the curtains was a big relief, and the best bathroom i've had on a cruise. The only thing we found on our room was a print out with some "special events" for the select members. On the day of those events no invitation was sent to the room so its easy to forget and miss those events. My husbands birthday was during our cruise and nothing was said or given, not even a card saying happy birthday, not a cake or no one wine him a happy birthday. Very disappointing. The ship was on its full capacity, and we noticed it on the pools, and during lunch and breakfast. Breakfast closes at 10am and with only 2 hours to serve breakfast for over 3,000 it was a dogs breakfast, queue for bread, queue for eggs, queue for everything. Same history for lunch. The food was not presented in a nice way, it was like they were feeding the army, bland food and not very nice to look at, no decorations. The hours of service should be increased when the ship is full to accommodate and serve everyone in a nice manner. The lunch was supposed to end at 2.30pm but they start removing the trays around 2.10pm and all is removed but the pasta and pizza only after that. We tried the main dinning room for two nights but the food was not special, and we decided to have dinner at the buffet. The seating area isn't big enough to accommodate all guests during meal time. The only time one could use the buffet wihitout having to fight or queue for food was at dinner time when most guests where at the min dining room. The entertainment was a hit and miss, and we did walk out on few show and didn't turned up for others. With only 3 swimming pools, one indoors for the oldies. And 2 outside with the children taking over was not possible to use it at all. One of those outside pools should be for adults only and the other for the kids. There isn't many activities happening and after 11pm the only option is to go to bed, because there isn't anything to do. The ship is okay and being a new ship to should be stunning. The excursions where very overpriced. The Captain was the best thing on the ship, Captain Tesos is a people person and e is always around the ship and happy to have a chat and take photos. I wouldn't cruise with celebrity again based on my experience. Read Less

We went on the 12 night South Pacific cruise from Sydney on 23 December. It was our 7th Celebrity cruise but first from Australia (all the others were from US/Caribbean ports). We have also been on Silversea, Oceania, Royal Caribbean, Princess and Carnival. We are Celebrity Elite level members. Here is the good and the not so good. Cabin Attendant – Excellent – Our cabin attendant (Gabriel) was superb. He was always efficient, smiling and helpful. Our departures were noted and our cabin made up immediately. Tenders – Excellent – Tenders were used at Isle de Pines and Mystery Island. On previous Celebrity cruises tenders have been a problem. On this cruise there were only short waits and even long queues moved quickly. The reason was simple – whoever was in charge used up to 7 lifeboats to provide a high frequency service from two boarding platforms. This was a problem from past cruises fixed – let us hope the same approach is adopted on other ships. Photo Shop – Poor – Bring your own camera and take your own photos. Avoid the photo packages. On previous Celebrity cruises the photo packages were good value by skilled photographers. On this cruise we felt there was no skill or art involved and the resulting photos were poor quality camera work such as parts of heads cuts off. Delays and stresses even getting the package USB on the last night suggested incompetence. Shuttle Bus – Excellent – Noumea – Often a problem on other cruises this, like the tender issue, was solved by whoever was in charge by having plenty of buses in Noumea running a high frequency service so there were no waits. Main dining room (Epernay) – Very Good – We had recently been on much higher priced Silversea and Oceania cruises. The food in the main dining room on Solstice was better than the main dining room on each of those cruise lines although not up to the standard of the speciality restaurants on those lines. Celebrity remains the best food in the mega ship market. Service in Main Dining – Excellent – Our waiters (Valentin and Iryna) were excellent and helpful. Seating in Main Dining – Poor – We are Elite Celebrity members but for some reason got about the worst table in the middle of the bottom level of the dining room. We used to get much better tables before we reached the Elite level. At no stage were we aware of the presence of a maitre d’. Coffee – Poor – The coffee throughout the ship is terrible. Café Bacio does not live up to the hype with poor service, attitude and coffee. Coffee was bitter and too hot. Children – Being an Australian school holiday cruise the ship had over 3000 passengers with lots of children (and prams). Most were well behaved but a few insisted upon pushing all the buttons in the lifts and gangs playing chasing games around the corridors on treasure hunts posed a hazard. Smoking – As non-smokers we were pleased that overall the smoking on board was only a minor inconvenience. Walking/Jogging Track – A design flaw of the Solstice is that the jogging track runs around a deck used for sun lounges and often during the day is hard to use because people put their sun lounges across the track. Whilst not as bad as on other cruises this was still an issue and the staff did not move sun lounges off the track. Sun Lounges – Most of the passengers being Australian it was shade rather than sun that was in demand. There were plenty of lounges available in the sun and sometimes in the shade. Unfortunately there was a lot of saving of lounges by passengers who rarely used them or who put belongings on adjoining lounges to stop them being used and give themselves extra space. This did not appear to be policed by the staff. Ocean View Buffet – Excellent – Huge and at times overcrowded it is usually possible to find something to eat from the wide range. The effort made for Christmas and New Year was spectacular and greatly appreciated. Sushi – Not Good – On previous Celebrity cruises Ocean View Café had reasonable sushi in the evening. Now that is gone. Instead there is only a Sushi café on level 5 which costs extra. Embarkation – Good - Surprisingly quick and efficient. On board 25 minutes after arriving at pier at 12.30pm. Unfortunately we were not then allowed off again that afternoon to spend any more time in Sydney and had not been warned this would be the case. Disembarkation – Good - At 6.40am there was a huge line for walk offs which commenced at 6.50am and went so quickly we were at Sydney airport at 7.20am. Itinerary – OK – Australia is a long way from anywhere which means too many days at sea. There were 6 days at sea and only 5 ports on this cruise. Cabin – Clean and functional the cabins are good for the price. Hygiene – Problem – Whilst there is hand washing lotion everywhere the system for obtaining beverages (sodas, water or alcoholic) seemed likely to be very efficient at spreading disease. You have to hand your seapass to a waiter who swipes it and hands it back and then does the same with someone else’s seapass and on it goes. The system needs to be contactless with the passenger simply waving their seapass. Beverage Packages – Poor – Even if the beverage package you purchase includes the type of drink available in your minibar you get charged again if you take it from the minibar. If your package includes Coke you cannot take the can of Coke from your minibar. Your package only allows you to get one drink at a time from a bar even if that drink is water or soft drink (and each time your seaspass is handled by a staff member who is handling lots of other seapasses and bottles and glasses handled by other passengers). At times the brand of bottled water sold was undrinkable. Internet – OK – Internet costs extra still unless some minutes are included in a deal or because of your status. Speed was fair. Security – As an Australian holiday period cruise there were a lot more passengers in the 20-40 age group than on other cruises, many of them appearing to consume vast amounts of alcohol. Given the amount of alcohol consumed security did a very good job of keeping it a safe cruise. It is certainly far safer than going out in an Australian capital city at night. Entertainment – Disappointing – Apart from Aussie Boys the acts and Celebrity in house entertainers were below the standard expected out of US ports. Movies – Some nights recent release movies were shown in Celebrity Central which is a comfortable cinema. Overall we were impressed. Christmas and New Year were made special which they have not been on some other cruises we have been on. Read Less

We travelled with three couples who are all good friends. We were booked in Aqua class and there were various comments among us regarding the value. We absolutely loved Blu, the diningroom designated to be used by Aqua cabin passengers. The room is smaller than the main dining room, service top notch and I think the food is prepared in a different kitchen. We generally had breakfast there as well, fresh orange juice, yum..and Nice and quiet. I used the Persian Gardens almost daily, nice heated beds, steam and sauna looking out over the ocean, and the other perk is the shower in our cabin that had jets of water for the body and overhead. We did have lunch in the buffet. Because Blu was so good, we did not feel like we needed go to any of the private, extra charge dining rooms. Our friends, on the other hand, did not see the value. They said they are not foodies, don't care where they eat as "food is food" and there is plenty everywhere. They used the Persian Garden only once. And the third couple loved Blu and never used the Persian Garden. So, everyone is different. The ship itself was kept very clean. We were in the casino a few evenings and it was quite busy. The shows were hit and miss. The entertainment we enjoyed were In the Skydeck at 10 p.m. Almost nightly. Live Music, a bit of a show by the dancers, and the guests joining in, or just watching. The gym is large and very busy in the morning. More equipment available later. New Years Eve was magical, dancing and singing out on the deck with at least 1200 people on a warm Caribbean night under the stars. The band played for all age groups. Only minor issues were: Disembarkation was very, very slow getting through customs. I think it was because it was New Year's Day and they were short staffed. Chairs on the deck at the pool was a challenge ...people 'saved' seats by putting down towels and books, then left,..and lots of times those spots were vacant for hours. Not a great system. Having just returned from spending Christmas and New Year onboard Celebrity Millenium I have to say this is the worse cruise ship I have ever been on. Having sailed with several other companies I was persuaded by family and friends to try Celebrity. From the minute we arrived at the Departure Lounge we felt let down. We booked concierge class and the brochure quite clearly states early boarding, however we were put into group 6 and were last onboard. Our cabin was "tired" and with that Im being kind, we had torn bedding, a dirty balcony, with furniture and handrail splattered with paint, and a bathroom desperately in need of redecorating and updating. The biggest disappointment was the food, the resteraunt was ok, however I had to remember not to trip over the torn carpet, however the Buffet was dreadful. Breakfasts were a nightmare, bacon swimming in water, diluted baked beans, and everything cold. However if you wanted cold fruit or continental breakfast the plates were to hot to hold. I opted for omlettes however this meant queing for at least 20mins and on one occassion over half an hour. Both myself and my friend were taken ill with chest infections and while I appreciate the need to pay,we paid $121 dollars for our first visit to see the doctor and a further $105 for medicines and treatment I was however appalled to find we were both charged $42 dollars for a second visit (suggested by the Doctor) for just reporting to the office, and a further 95 dollars for the treatment. We literally said our names and for this we were charged $42. I have written to celebrity to complain with photos, however i am not sure i will get a response. Read Less

Having read the reviews of this cruise/ship I was a little nervous about our cruise, but I need not have worried. This was our first Celebrity cruise (Princess and P & O are our favourites) and I was pleasantly surprised. Embarkation was a breeze and our cabin was ready for us, again, having read that the ship was tired and in need of updating i wondered what our cabin would be like. It was lovely, very modern and the furnishings were nice. The balcony could have done with a little renovation but there was nothing that stopped us enjoying the room facilities. Our cabin steward, Rufina, was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in Blu, which we thoroughly enjoyed, the food was of a high standard and the staff always friendly and obliging to any requests for something different. On a couple of sea days, we ate in the Metropolitan at lunchtime and that also was of a good standard. The service wasn't always quick but we were in no rush and where else could we go on a sea day? We did use the Oceanview cafe on a couple of occasions and from what we could see the choice and quality was excellent. Unfortunately, because of bad weather we were unable to stop in Danang but these things happen and you have to make the most of them. The other ports were great and the overnight stays were brilliant, allowing you to experience the nightlife of these places. We did some ship's tours and then used the port guides for wandering on our own. I have to say I thought the port guides were poor, and lacked information and decent maps. The ship's tours we did were good value for money and just right for us. We have a couple of moans, the drinks prices are extortionate. We like a drink when we are away but i refuse to pay stupid prices and whilst we enjoyed wine with dinner etc and cocktails I did feel like Celebrity were taking the Mickey! We enjoy the ambiance of formal nights but felt that there was no sense of occasion on this ship. I don't know if it was just this ship or Celebrity in general. When you make an effort to dress up I feel slightly annoyed when people are still permitted to enter the main dining rooms in shorts and trainers. On other cruises we have always felt pulled to the atrium which is where things always seem to be going on and it is a great place to people watch but on this ship the atrium was nearly always empty, it was beautfiully decorated but there was nothing going on there. Some of the entertainment was poor, especially in the Rendez Vous lounge. The singer playing the piano was great but the band with the male singer were dire. The music was so loud that you couldn't hold a conversation but thankfully it drowned out his terrible voice. We tried the Cosmos lounge a few times but always felt it lacked atmosphere. I don't think I ever saw the Captain, we heard from him every morning at 10am but the senior crew were not often seen around the ship. Hygiene was excellent and they were always dishing out hand gel and wiping bannisters in public areas. Our disembarkation in Hong Kong was quick but it was hard to get away from the terminal. In fairness, Celebrity did warn us about lack of taxis and we could have booked a shuttle but we decided not to and paid the price. The taxi queue was huge so we ended up taking the free shuttle to the Hollywood Plaza mall and then picked up a taxi from there. All in all, we had a fantastic holiday and I would quite happily cruise Celebrity again, especially if they reduce their drink prices!!!! Read Less

Let me start by saying that we have about 15 previous Celebrity cruises under our belt - and 30+ in all. We started with X back in the early days of Chandris, sailing on the Meridian, Horizon, Zenith, up to the largest ships. We prefer smaller ships but have enjoyed the Aqua Class/Blu experience so much that it offsets the size issues. We have done holiday cruises many times on Celebrity and other lines, including RSSC, Oceania, and Seabourn. This year we liked the prospect of leaving from San Juan so we booked Summit 12 months out. Our cabin on Deck 11 was absolutely fine with terrific stateroom service. Only negative here was that our balcony overlooked the Sunset Bar and we had to contend with music every evening until 10.30 or 11.00 pm. We loved the aft location. Two concerns pretty much tainted our interest in any future trips with Celebrity. There has been a significant decline in the quality of food and food service, even within the past 12 months. Even in Blu, which we think is an inspired concept, I had ahi tuna one evening that was inedible because of the fishy taste. The Ocean View Cafe has been reduced to a glorified strip mall cafeteria. Nowhere do they post the menu being offered - the only way to find out is to wind your way through every serving line in the restaurant. Signage is incorrect or missing for many items. One of the best was "Barbarian" Sausage (Bavarian maybe?). Red Jello/Vanilla was actually Yellow Jello/Vanilla. Servers don't know what they are serving. One dish looked to me like orzo or rice, I couldn't tell which. I asked the server and she pointed to the sign which said "Mixed Vegetables." Veal Piccata had no lemons or capers but a thick gooey brown gravy and mushrooms. Previously, servers would remove plates etc from the tables almost before you could put your fork down. We saw tables with empty dishes on them for 15+ minutes. The ship's interiors look really well in most every aspect. But the exterior spaces are run down, rusty, and embarrassing. The teak floor in the Solarium is flaking apart and looks like there is sand on the floor. The ceiling a/c vents are dripping with rust. The chair cushions are stained with white paint. Ice dispensers "out of order" for the entire cruise at the Pool Grill and servers told me they had not been working "for some time." The piece de resistance was the afternoon canapes we received in Aqua Class. Every day the same uninspired, unidentifiable things appeared and twice we were served chocolate chip cookies. Could not believe it. We overheard several European guests on the ship who were complaining about having been duped into believing they were getting a 5-star experience. I am sorry that a once great cruise line has dropped to this level. There are plenty of hard-working staff everywhere. And I expect there are very bright minds at work in the RCCL and X offices in Miami. But something strange is missing in between. We have enjoyed many wonderful cruises with Celebrity but we will most likely not be back. Read Less

We did back to back weeks during Christmas/New Year's 2014-2015 in the Caribbean out of San Juan. We had been on the Summit before. Somehow, the ship's infrastructure has declined considerably. The plumbing was malfunctioning continually, creating a pervasive odor on many decks. While we had a good time and enjoyed ourselves, we have to remark that this ship needs extensive refurbishment. The staff was usually great. However, the wait staff in the main dining room needs polish and additional training. Rarely did we have a complete set of flatware and glassware. Although they were eager to please, it seemed that setting a table is beyond their training. Other than a dinner fork or salad fork, we rarely got the correct implement on the first try: example- no cocktail forks for the shrimp cocktail without delays until they could find one upon request. And while that may seem trifling, not getting a teaspoon for the coffee without asking is irritating. Getting a paper cup of espresso from the coffee bar at dinner because the coffee bar would not let its china cups into the dining room was hilarious. Nor could the waiter envision taking a dining room cup to be filled at the coffee bar. Having to ask for a steak knife for steak was a chore. Reaching across a table to refill a water glass rather than walking around to fill it was interesting table etiquette. Having to get up and ask for coffee refills or raising one's hand because the staff will not check if you want a refill ...every single meal ....was not understandable. Not the end of the world, but...Sorry, that is not fine dining. We did an African safari in tented camps where the Masai managed to set the table correctly and served beautifully. We have cruised other cruise lines but heard that Celebrity was top notch. We booked Concierge Class on this ship and were assured a butler and preferential treatment.( It was our 20th anniversary). From the moment we boarded it went down hill. Our room was filthy. We had to request it be cleaned twice! No butler service or preferential seating promised. We could not get traditional dining as we were told it was full. However, each night over 100 seats were empty and available. Configuration of the cabin was such that the bed was in the middle and had to almost crawl over bed to get to the couch, balcony, make-up desk with mirror, The food was honestly so poor that two nights we went upstairs to the buffet and had pizza. One could not use the sauna or steam room without paying each time even when one took a class or used the gym. We could not even get a light fixed...and add insult to injury they painted our balcony the morning of our last day! We were never asked or told..we were just greeted with a sign "Wet Paint" . Due to this we had no use of our balcony our last day/evening. The shows were not very good. If you think I am a cranky complainer the others we met on the ship had worse experiences! Each encounter with other passengers were worse and worse. One person could not get seated for dinner new Years Eve and was told "there was no room. Sorry" Another couple told us their room had to be scrubbed for 1 hour due to the filthy condition. Another told us about their door coming off it's hinges on her! It just goes on and on. Sadly, any screw up was greeted by chocolate strawberries to the point I just left the 5th dish of them outside the door. There were certainly ways to make things better. After 1 day, the strawberry plate got old. The employees seem trained in "no" and "can't" on ANY issue even the smallest. The captain was busy being a comedian, playing volleyball and game show host. This detail may seem trivial but I would prefer my captain to head the ship and it was operating poorly. Constellation is an old ship. There were many things that could be done to improve the food and service. This is not going to happen. Please pick another cruise line or at least new ship! Read Less

The restaurant seating "TEAM" needs to take their work a little more serious. You don't seat two English speaking people at a table with six Chinese speaking people. And if the "TEAM" was too busy overlooking names (Italian vs. Chinese), then the waiter should have picked up on the situation and rectified the arrangement. We ate in the buffet for the remainder of the cruise. Food was sub-par, especially the beef, and not only in the buffet, but the main dining room also (I ordered the prime rib on the first night of the cruise). Buffet was about as organized as a soup sandwich. Had to hunt for everything I wanted on my plate. Meat in this line, potatoes in that line, veggies somewhere else. The so-called "Cruise Director" is pretty much skating. Not much planning, considering this was a Xmas cruise. A first year Arts & Entertainment student could have planned the five day cruise much better. This was by far the worse cruise I have ever taken, and to think that it was a Xmas cruise was even worse than worse. You people are billed as a five star cruise line...welllllll...that's just a bunch of bull. I've taken many a cruise with a lesser star rating that far exceeded my expectations and would make your outfit pale in comparison. I paid for a premium brand and got stiffed. That won't happen again. On a brighter note, the ship was very clean and bright. Casino....Wife and I playing identical slot machines...cruise cards inserted in each...mine wasn't giving nearly as much points as my wife's, even though we started off with the same amount of money and had equally won/lost the same amount of money when I called a floor mgr??? to inform him something was wrong with the machine/s. He looked, agreed, walked away and was never seen again... We will never sail with Celebrity again. They could care less about the customer. It's all about profit. Read Less

We have sailed with Celebrity Cruises 5 times now all on different ships. The first 4 were amazing but this most recent one was awful. We chose a Christmas Cruise as it was something we hadn't managed to do before however never again and never again on the Constellation. To start with it's an old ship with a recently refitted (aqua class). We always travel aqua class as we primarily enjoy dining in Blu. The Blu restaurant on the Constellation is an after thought and was therefore squashed in to a very small space on the ship, too small to accomadate all aqua class passengers. On several occasions we had to queue and wait for a table. The restaurant itself has it's tables so close together you may as well be dining on one long table and not individual tables. It was very claustrophobic, and we felt rushed. Especially on Christmas Eve when it was clear the staff wanted us all gone so they could enjoy their own party in that restaurant!! The atmosphere was dull and matter of fact, not a party hat or party popper in sight!! Guest relations on this cruise were abysmal. They were disinterested in helping and again we were felt to be an inconvenience to them. On Christmas Day, we purchased an internet package at a pricey cost of $81 for the sole purpose of either face timing or skypeing home, when we couldn't connect, my husband rang guest relations and they said it was working fine but a bit slow so 'be patient'!! When we still couldn't connect after 45 mins we went to the ilounge only to be informed that it had been disabled as the signal was poor. We had to fight very hard to get any form of refund, eventually we were refunded $40, a lot less than was was left unused. We also took advantage of booking celebrity transfers to MIA airport, on the information sheet we were informed that we needed bag tags 'green no 15', we were given different tags so rang guest relations, who promised to send the correct ones. When they didn't arrive (and we getting close to having to put our bags outside our door) we rang again twice - nothing happened, so went down and collected them ourselves. On return to our cabin at 10.55pm we were given 10 new tags!!! The food was OK, have had much better on other celebrity cruises. Cleanliness was lacking. Our cabin was beautifully cleaned, but the balcony didn't get a look in. We had to clean it ourselves. Overall we have had some truly beautiful celebrity cruises and have never ever felt the need to write a review. This time however it was a very different story. It was made quite clear that the passengers were actually an inconvinence and they just wanted us on and off again. Whether this was because it was only 5 nights we are not sure. This was our second cruise. Our first was a great experience with Royal Caribbean. Based on reviews, we decided to go with Celebrity this time. The experience was a great deal of fun with plenty of opportunities for relaxation; but was it worth the cost, and did it live up to its 5 star rating? Embarkation was smooth and painless. The Constellation had docked at terminal 4. This is a brand new building with a well organised and friendly staff. We were through the terminal and on the ship in about 15 minutes. Once on the ship, we received a complementary champagne, were just about to start exploring, and the sales pitch began. We were immediately approached by a hostess from the specialty restaurant "Ocean Liners". The hostess thrust a menu into our hands and began giving us details about the menu, service and value we would receive at this restaurant. We responded that we had already booked and paid for the other specialty restaurant "The Tuscan Grill". This did not halt the sales pitch. Feeling a little pressured, we relented and booked in for that evening. We then decided to head to our stateroom, on our way out of the lobby, we were approached by a host from the "Tuscan Grill" specialty restaurant with a similar sales pitch. He only relented when we explained that we were already booked into the Tuscan Grill and provided details of which night we were booked in. From there, we went to our stateroom. We had booked 2 inside staterooms on deck 3, one for my husband and I, and one next door for our teenage son. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the staterooms, much bigger than on Royal Caribbean, and very well laid out. The bathroom was large enough to move around in, and the shower was huge (huge in ship terms, which is small, but much larger than the one we had on Monarch of the Seas). There was plenty of storage. So much in fact that we didn't use it all. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the housekeeping staff met us at the door to introduce themselves. Throughout the cruise they were very friendly and always available. The Constellation has several specialty restaurants, a main dining room, and a buffet. Ocean Liners is their signature specialty restaurant, and that is where we dined on the first evening. The service was flawless. We ordered ala carte and were not disappointed both with taste and presentation. My son had the rack of lamb, I had the chateaubriand, and my husband ordered the lobster, which was prepared table side by our hostess. My husband a I enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine from the wine package we had previously ordered (the 5 bottle classic wine package). Upon leaving the restaurant, we were approached with the bill, which showed that they had originally charged us for the wine by the glass, then realized they had confused the classic wine package with the classic beverage package, reversed the charges, and told us that the remainder of our wine would be sent to the next restaurant, The Tuscan Grill. The following evening, we went to the Tuscan Grill. Once again, the service was impeccable, and the food amazing. My husband had the rib eye steak and says it was the best steak he has ever had. I had the fillet mignon, and our son had the lobster penne. The desserts were "to die for". Again, my husband and I enjoyed wine with our dinner. We had informed the waiter that we had the classic wine package and that our wine was supposed to be sent over. At the end of the meal when the bill came, we were charged for the wine. They had once again confused the beverage package. The maitre'd apologized for the confusion, admitted it was their mistake, but refused to reverse the charges. We paid, then went to Cellar Masters where after about five minutes, it was sorted out by a very helpful staff member. The remainder of the cruise, we went to the main dining room. The food was amazing, however the service was far less impressive than in the previous two restaurants. Each time we ordered something "extra" (pop, espresso), they immediately asked for the sea pass and presented a receipt to be signed, instead of waiting until the end of the meal. We selected the anytime dining which worked out well. We were able to sit at our own table and book any time we wished. For breakfast and lunch, we went to the buffet. The buffet was average, as to be expected when serving over a thousand. Activities were scheduled throughout the day, appealing to a wide variety of people. There was ballroom dancing, live entertainment in the theatre, and bands both on the pool deck and in the lounges. We especially enjoyed the trivia game shows, and the comedian showing in the theatre. There was also plenty of opportunity to sit back and relax in the many quiet areas on the decks. Our 16 year old son enjoyed the teen club activities. Our ship docked in Cozumel on Dec 24. There were several tours available to choose from. We wanted to see the Myan ruins. There was an 8 hr tour, and a 4 hr tour. We chose the 4 hr tour rather than spend hours on a bus. We really enjoyed this trip. We went to the ruins in San Gervasio, then a bus ride to The Mayan Cacao Company. The trip was very interesting, great people, very informative guide. There was plenty of opportunity for photography. On Dec 26, we docked in Key West. We decided not to book an excursion, instead opting to walk around on our own. We purchased tickets for the Hemingway House and the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum from a local vendor. The Hemingway House was amazing, and again, plenty of opportunity to wander around and take photographs. We very much enjoyed this. Next, we went to the Mel Fisher museum. Again, very interesting with amazing artifacts. Great value for money on these excursions. On Dec 27, the last day of the cruise, the ship docked at its final destination, Fort Lauderdale, at around 7 am. Since our flight was not scheduled until 7 pm, we chose to do the shopping excursion to Sawgrass Mills Mall. We were to meet our tour guide in the theatre on deck 5 at 8:45am. Our guide was then meant to escort us through the disembarkation process. However, at 8:05, an announcement was made for those of us going on this excursion to go to deck 3 and disembark. I immediately went to deck 3 and explained the confusion of the contradicting instructions to a staff member. This staff member seemed confused, spoke to someone on the radio, then said we needed to come to deck 3 right away and disembark. Therefore, we followed her instructions and disembarked. After clearing customs, we went to the front of the terminal. There was some initial confusion as we did not see a tour guide or bus. After asking several terminal staff, we were approached by a tour guide who said that we were late. We explained that were told to disembark. He said we did not follow instructions properly, then he left. About 5 minutes later, we were met by a second tour guide who was extremely helpful and informative. He said the bus would arrive shortly and stayed with us and the other guests who had begun to arrive, assisting us with our luggage, very nice. We were driven to the mall, and dropped off with a time to meet for transport to the airport. Unfortunately some people chose to be 45 minutes late for the meeting time, making everyone else late for their arrival at the airport. We were in no danger of missing our flight, but other travelers were, due to the inconsideration of people who chose not to meet the timings. The positive point about this excursion is that we didn't need to worry about our luggage, which was kept on the bus during the shopping trip, and we didn't need to try to find a taxi. The Celebrity Constellation is one of Celebrities older ships. It received a remodel to upgrade some of its amenities but is still showing some signs of age. The staff was courteous and friendly and for the most part very helpful. Celebrity sell themselves as an upscale cruise line. However, despite paying more for this cruise, we feel the service was not as good as our Royal Caribbean experience. We had a great time, and will probably sail with Celebrity again, but would like to try a different ship.   Read Less

We were on the same cruise as the only British Couple and flew out to Quito On BA and Iberia via Madrid early Boxing Day morning arriving some 12 hours later. We were met at the Airport on arrival (we were the only couple) and arrived at the hotel some 45 mins later around 9.45pm. We were lucky to be given an upgraded room. We enjoyed the food at the hotel both pre and post cruise. The included tour of Quito was good and the buffet lunch with traditional Ecuadorian singing and dancing Was excellent. Although we were fairly tired we went out on the afternoon trip to the Equatorial Line Monument. The evening meal was at La Gloria, a local restaurant we enjoyed this too. Now for the Cruise We were sold this as an "adults" cruise. This was not the case and slightly spoilt it for us. Probably being over Christmas and New Year altered the dynamics slightly. There were only 5 or 6 English speaking couples. The rest were made up of family groups, some large with 3 generations and some with young children. Also, quite a number of Spanish speaking South Americans. They all kept to their own groups and didn't mix so dining times gave you little choice of who to sit with. Luckily we made friends with the American couples. One of the American ladies was very upset at the "unsociable"situation. Most of the teens and 20 something's were a pain as far as hogging and sitting right on top of the Wifi "hot spot".They seemed to be on their phones/laptops 24/7. In fact some of them hardly seemed to leave the ship! My husband likes to keep in email contact with his 90 year old Mother. This was virtually impossible. Make no mistake, this is not your usual cruise. It's an "Expedition" ship. It doesn't matter how many cruise lines you've sailed on or how many you have done and we've done over 50 this is totally different. There is nothing to do on the ship during the day as your not expected to be there and have paid a hefty price to go see the spectacular wildlife. Something that LeaderLady failed to mention. We saw Boobies, Nazca and Blue-footed varieties. Marine and Land Iguanas. Galápagos Hawks, Waved Albatross, Tropic Birds, Mockingbirds, Frigate Birds, flightless comorants. Sea Lions, Sea Turtles, Penguins, Giant Tortoises, Darwin Finches,Flamingos and much more to see if you enjoy snorkelling in cold water. Just wildlife everywhere. You had to be careful not to step on anything. The only disappointment as far as seeing wildlife for me was that we didn't see the Red Footed Boobies or the recently discovered Pink Iguanas, both found on Isla Genovesa in the far north and not on any expedition itinerary. The Naturalists all Ecuadorian were all good. Some better than others. I did feel that the Spanish speaking guests should have gone out separately in their own group as there were many occasions when a lengthy Spanish conversation was conducted within the party of which we were not included. Every evening before dinner we were given a talk with slide show on what we should see the following day and the type of terrain and level of fitness required and recommendations as to footwear, clothing and if insect repellent was necessary. This information is also given in your Celebrity Today. Apart from 1 walk we chose the long walk every time. Paying all that money I wanted to see all I could. The ratio of guests to staff was 98/62. Our cabin was made up 3 times a day. There was plenty of hot water. Only a couple of channels on the TV and very little drawer space. The ship did sway a bit some nights but it's a small ship so its to be expected. No, there isn't a lot to do in the evenings after dinner, there was always music and dancing. Karaoke one night. Many went straight to bed. It's very full on and not what I would describe as a holiday. We were up at 6.30, breakfast at 7. The long walk usually started at 8am. Back on the ship by 11.30, lunch at 12. Afternoon walk 3pm back to the ship by 6.pm then cocktail party from 7pm talk at 7.15 followed by dinner. It was hard not to over indulge on the all inclusive drinks. I did suffer one morning after to many Pisco Sours the previous night!! The food was good and the Lobster excellent. We ate out on deck one night, wonderful. Our first night on the ship we were standing at the stern. It was dark and we were watching the stars when we heard a strange noise. We looked down to the landing platform where there were 3 sea lions asleep catching a ride. They were there for quite a while. All in all we really enjoyed this trip. Not the 5 star I expected but a good 4 1/2 I would definitely like to do the trip again at a different season and the Inner Loop. I would just ensure that it wouldn't be during school/college break. Whilst waiting at Baltra Airport for our flight back to Quito I did notice that the newly arriving passengers were all adults and seemingly couples. We booked this over 18 months ago when on the Celebrity Infinity. At that time there were no deals. We had a £400 cruise credit but they wouldn't let us use it for the xpedition. They are doing deals now though. We did a Transatlantic in October when Celebrity were heavily promoting the Galápagos and offering up to $500 onboard credit for your current cruise. So if your thinking about this trip it might pay to book onboard if you have a forthcoming Celebrity cruise booked.   Read Less

This was our tenth cruise,5th with celebrity twice on Solstice.Did this same so called Christmas cruise 2 years ago.Last time it was very good this time terrible.Did not mention FATHER CHRISTMAS ,who is this CRINKLEBUM that so called cruise director JC was always on about?Did not see FATHER CHRISTMAS giving gifts to children as was the case on the other CHRISTMAS CRUISE.The CHRISTMAS fare on Christmas day for lunch and dinner was non existent. There were no party hats, bonbons,tinsel or anything on the tables, PITIFUL. Regarding food, Epernay dining rooms food was very average but staff as always were very good,food deck 14 Oceanview cafe was less than inviting with little choice and variety, 3 food bays with same food on all. In my humble opinion JC is not employing quality entertainers( AUSSIE BOYS AND NEIL DIAMOND ENTERTAINER) excepted.There were other issues, these were the main ones. Many other passengers commented about the lack of Christmas cheer. If u are not going to celebrate CHRISTMAS, then dont advertise it as a CHRISTMAS cruise!!!!!!!! We have friends two couples, who are contemplating this cruise next year, will advise them to think again and check if SOLSTICE will celebrate Christmas next year. I was a cruise virgin until I spent 14 nights on the Solstice sailing from Sydney to Auckland and loved it! As a Brit, I loved the British entertainment crew - they made it for me. Seeing Santa in the Solstice theatre on Christmas morning giving gifts to all the kids up the age of 17 was such a treat and made me feel so Christmassy even though I don't have kids myself. Had a wonderful dinner in the Epernay main dining room in the evening and the turkey and stuffing were cooked to perfection as always. New Years Eve was so lively with plenty going on that we didn't get to bed until around 4am! All of the staff were awesome and so attentive we were made to feel special All in all a great first cruise that I would definitely do again. Read Less

Never knew there was such a group as Cruise Critic even though we have sailed before. My Son found the group and I must say it has made our trip so much more enjoyable. Thank you, Marcia, our fearless leader! It was such fun doing the Secret Santa. Met so many Canadians too. One of the best thing was when on the ship we met members of the CC while walking along or eating etc and it made us feel that we had a family on board. Although there were four of us, it was ever so nice to be on excursions with fellow Members. We met many lovely people and are going to socialise with a lovely couple who lives in the same City. I must say that we had a great time with our guide, Rey with Ricky Ricardo in Costa Rica. He was simply marvellous, tried so very hard to show us all he could and he remembered our likes too. For example I lamented that it was a pity we couldn't visit an orchard farm, he stopped at a house and asked for a couple of orchid flowers just for me! Nest were Andy & Jorge from Cave Tubing Company in Belize. Andy was charming while Jorge the strong silent type was very knowledgeable especially in the rain forest. Had a great time and thanks for the pics, Susan! Other excursions were interesting but these two stood out with that personal touch.   So, I have finally registered myself with CC and am looking forward to receiving and reading all info from Members. This was our 16th cruise and 2nd Celebrity cruise. After trying 8 different cruise lines we have decided that Celebrity suits us best. We stayed at the Hampton Inn, Plantation FL through stay123. Front desk personnel were very friendly and helpful. There are shopping malls on both sides with numerous retail stores and restaurants. The stay123 pre-cruise package includes a one night stay, free breakfast buffet with hot items and great coffee, free shuttle to the cruise pier, 7 days free on-site parking and a free shuttle back to the hotel. We sailed on the Eclipse last year and since they have identical deck plans, we found it super easy to get around. We had an oceanview room on deck 3, which allowed us to pick the free classic drink package on their Go123 program. Deck 3 is on the same floor as the Silhouette dining room & Passport Bar and only 1 flight of stairs up to the theater. We found the embarkation and disembarkation to be very efficient and on time. The doors opened for embarkation at 10:45 AM, we sailed through security, got our sea passes and we were onboard with our free glass of champagne by 11:05 AM. Cabins opened at 1:30 PM and our luggage arrived at 2:30 PM. We did the self disembarkation which was easy, as long as you were willing to stand in line and talk to people you somehow never met during the 10 night cruise! Our OV room was kept clean by Inacio & Nadine, plenty of storage, loved the circular shower doors. Cruise Director Paul was the best! We always saw staff cleaning or vacuuming; painting or washing the exterior while in port; public bathrooms were immaculate and all personnel were super friendly. A special thank you to Solarium attendant Mayo! We had Celebrity Select Dining and the 1st night we were seated in Sergio's area. We asked for Sergio & the same table every night of our cruise. Food was plated beautifully, served at the correct temperature & excellent quality! Recently, we have noticed, that other cruise lines have downgraded the quality, but Celebrity just cut back on the quantity. Which I am OK with - I have never gone hungry while cruising! My spouse had a draft beer at the new Gastrobar ($9.78 and not on the free drink package) Activities: played Bingo once ($39 for 3 cards, $49 for 6 cards and $59 for 9 cards) watched the cupcake demo, participated in the Reindeer Games, watched the Corning Glass show,, watched the Top Chef challenge and generally spent a lot of time at the Solarium pool relaxing! The best part of this cruise was the Christmas decorations. Especially in the Grand Foyer, where they built a whole gingerbread village between the two elevator. Then on the last night of the cruise they had Holiday Caroling lead by Cruise Director Paul (who has an excellent voice!) with faux snowflakes floating down into the foyer and several floors of passengers joining in. We cruise so often it was difficult to find destinations we had not visited. The entire experience was better than previous Celebrity cruises because the ports of call did not have the usual lines since it was in the Caribbean. We left round trip Fort Lauderdale, FL and made stops at Grand Cayman; Cartagena, Columbia; Colon, Panama; Puerto Limon, Costa Rica; Belize; and Cozumel, Mexico. Food was good but not exceptionally good. Staff and waiters and bartenders were also in a festive mood which made it even more enjoyable. Holiday cruise had over 500 kids (so we were told) so forget using adult swim pool as the kids were in them all the time. Still there were spaces to enjoy and sun/relax. Lots of holiday themed events on board the ship. New Year's Eve was especially fun with lots of champagne so don't bother ordering a bottle as it flows from about 11pm until 1am. The shows were very uneven, the first being the worst, the aerial being the best. Some of the talent could sing others were often off tune and the comedian didn't do well so felt sorry for him, as he kept apologizing. Read Less

This cruise was sold as the "ultimate" and the ship was rated with 5 stars ! This cruise was just the worst I ever experienced. Apart from 4 constant shopping channels on the TV with a cruise director who should be fired at all, this cruise can be considered as a "rocky horror picture show".. Christmas was celebrated with flying paper-planes and hard rock music, 30 minutes (!) the cruise director was playing the piano ( worse than an beginner ) where the guest were allowed to sing christmas songs,the dinner was very poor, no decoration on tables, noisy kids were running around during dining and there was no feeling like christmas. at the pool area the so called cruise director played with the awful house rock band hard rock as it worst. The show at the theater were unprofessional, cheap and stupid. Same on new years eve and during the other days. The food was ordinary, always the same and the presentation of it far away from 5 stars. But the worst thing was the lack of hygiene - kids with diapers occupied the pools and hot tubs, even the spa. This actually should be reported to the us health authorities. Lazy waiters were busy with internal discussions rather than to clean the tables and take the dishes away. Same with the area on the pool deck. On top of it the entire staff was unfriedly except the cabin attendant and the bar keepers on the sunset deck. There was neither control, nor security visible. I could continue the list of endless complaints but it would exceed this report. One thing still to mention - the captain could not answer the question how many guests are on bord this ship! In my opinion this ship was totally overloaded. I was happy that the "horror picture show" did end after 11 days finally. This cruise line never again ! Read Less

This cruise was over Christmas and New Year. The cruise went to 8 of the Caribbean Islands, (Aruba, Curacao, Grenada, Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, St Kitts and St Maarten). Overall the cruise was up to Celebrities high standards. However, the Ultimate Dining Package, which we have used in the past, had been withdrawn for this cruise. The excuse given was that this was done to allow all passengers the opportunity to dine in the specialist restaurants. However, everyone had had the opportunity to book specialist dining prior to cruising either on Celebrity's web site, direct with them or via their travel agent. We had booked for every night prior to the cruise, costing an equivalent of $1180. The normally available Ultimate Dining Package gives a discount to this plus other benefits, lunches, coffees being some off them. The withdrawal of this package for this cruise should in my opinion have been mentioned on their web site, so as not to have tarnished the cruise slightly for us. The staff in all departments were again excellent, particularly Marion (the Maitre'D), Christian, Micha and Alicia in the Murano restaurant especially. The cabin staff Muhamad and Brian kept our cabin tiptop and Tanishia looked after us in the bar. The ship was decorated out for both Christmas and New Year and the majority of entertainment was very good. The shore excursions we took took were generally very good, particularly the catamaran cruise from St Kitts to Nevis. Hopefully the management staff of Celebrity will in future give consideration to their loyal customers!   Read Less

I will start on a positive as we have cruised on the Eclipse four times now. As usual the staff really made the cruise as they are so gracious, interesting and hepful. Also the cleaniness of the whole ship was good. The ports were as good as usual with no delays despite turning back to Curacao due to a medical emergency. The proceedure on and off the ship was efficient. We feel like many others that the cutbacks on the ship made our experience quite different. We tried for the first time the choice to dine when you wanted to and found the experience better than we anticipated. It avoided the rush to get ready for early dining as the other is too late due to a gasterol illness. There was no wait and we had the joy of meeting different people each evening. Also meant that it avoided sometimes sitting on an empty table. Like many others we did enjoy the food but somehow was not so special as often delays and feeling that the staff were too few. We actually ate in the buffet one night for the first time ever in the evening. Obviously the dress code has dropped very significantly which is a shame. The brunch is no longer in the Sonata and is now in the Ocean View Buffet Restaurant and was a shambles. There was nowhere to sit as full and when you did find a table to share all the dirty plates were still there so had to take to plate station so could set down own food. We loved the food and ice sculptures in the old brunch set up! Please bring it back. Also when asked whether everything was satisfactory we said the new tea bags were terrible as even with two there was no flavour. Three people took our Cabin No. and no-one came back. One gentleman working in Murano Restaurant high up said he would get loose tea and pot to us. We were so grateful but nothing. Would this have happened in days gone by - no never. We went to Sales Office to set up a forward passage but are home now and still heard nothing despite filling in form etc. on chasing it up on ship were told they had a pile to work through. Guess it is not going to materialise now! We probably will not go with Celebrity again despite Elite Status after seven cruises with them as wondering if it is worth the premium.   Read Less

We sailed aboard the Celebrity Silhouette December 21-28, 2014, and had a great time. The embarkation process was surprisingly easy. We received a voicemail several days before, letting us know when the best time would be for us to arrive, based on our cabin location. We arrived between 2:00P and 2:30P and sailed through. Once on board, we went to make dinner reservations. Unlike other cruise lines that we have sailed on, if you want to make dinner reservations before the ship sails, you have to pay for them in advance. We wanted to use our shipboard credit to make these reservations, but we could not use it to pay for anything until after we boarded. So, although we made reservations first thing after boarding the ship, we could only get reservations between 5:30P and 6:30P, and even that took a bit of work, as we had to see which restaurants could fit us in on which days. It would be nice to be able to make dinner reservations in advance without having to pay for the upcharge until after we ate the actual dinner. We ate at the Lawn Club the first night. Although Celebrity bills the Lawn Club as a “cook your own food” destination, we did not have to do so. We had salad, pizza, (which they call flatbread) and the rib eye. We really liked the pizza, and found it to be excellent throughout the ship. Our waiter was super. We had lunch at the Porch the next day. It was nice to be outside and my husband and I really enjoyed our paninis. The service was slow, but they only had one person working up there, so that might have been the reason. Monday night we ate at Qsine They offer their menu via iPad, which is more of a gimmick than anything useful. Qsine is basically a tapas place, where you can try many small plates. I enjoyed the crab ball best. My husband liked the Mediterranean lamb chops. Once again, our waiter was super. When we followed his suggestions, we ate very well. Tuesday night was our first foray into the Main Dining room. It was a very pretty space and the food was fine. The sommelier that night was outstanding, guiding us through our beverage choices and ensuring that our glasses were never empty. Wednesday night, Christmas Eve, we decided to have dinner at Bistro on Five. Salad and crepes were just what the doctor ordered after hiking all afternoon. Once again, our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. And, we both really liked the crepes. Christmas night we ate in Murano. We decided to try to wine pairing dinner. The service at this particular restaurant was the best on the ship. We really enjoyed our dinner, although at the end of five courses, we were extremely full! Friday night we ate in the Tuscan Grille. While the food was very good (my husband’s favorite meal), the service was disorganized and chaotic. It took a while before anyone came to our table, and then we were asked to order food before drinks. When we said that we wanted to first order drinks, we were offered only one glass of red wine (we had the classic beverage package – more on that later.) Someone else finally showed up and informed us of our various wine choices. Saturday night we were back in the Main Dining Room. That night, they had a Top Chef menu to order from. The food from that was fabulous! We ate all of our breakfasts and many lunches in the Ocean View restaurant, which offered a buffet. Breakfast was lovely. Most of the lunches were fine, but somewhat crowded. The last lunch of the cruise was a mad-house. There were specialty items, ice sculptures, tons of desserts and huge crowds. If we sail on Celebrity again, we will go to a specialty restaurant for lunch that day. We had the classic beverage package, which allowed us to enjoy all non-alcoholic drinks offered on board, along with beers up to $6 per serving, and wine-by-the-glass up to $9 per serving. It also included cocktails, but we did not partake. The wines by the glass were fine: the cab and the pinot grigio being quite good. The beer choices, however, were skimpy: we could only get Budweiser, Heineken and Corona. That being said, it made the trip easy not having to think about paying for any beverages. However, the beer choices could be better. We had a forward cabin with a balcony on the 7th deck, which we loved. Our cabin attendant, Viviana, was wonderful! She answered any and all questions and took very good care of us. Our cabin was always clean and we really appreciated our own outside space. We spent a good amount of time on our balcony. We were concerned that the boat might feel too crowded, since it held over 2800 passengers. However, the only times it did seem crowded were around the main pool area and at the last lunch. As we had our own balcony, we did not have to wrestle for a chaise lounge by the pool. We heard complaints from other people onboard that is was hard to get a chair and that others would “save” chaise lounges for their friends and family members, even when they were not there. We were lucky not to have to deal with that. We tried to use the jogging track, but unless you want to get up very early, forget it. The track circles the pool area, so people were constantly in the way while setting up their chairs, getting drinks, climbing in and out of the pools, or going somewhere else. Celebrity should really think about repositioning their jogging track for people who want to get some serious outdoor exercise. Although the adults-only pool was advertised as a lap pool, it is not. It is way too small (short and narrow) for any serious lap swimming. However, it was a nice respite from the main pool area madness. We also used the treadmills in the exercise room. It was nice to look out over the ocean as we “walked” along. One of the ship’s engines was out, so we were not able to make San Juan, Puerto Rico, the first scheduled port of call. We heard about this before we boarded through our travel agent. However, it seemed as though quite a few people did not know about this change until they were onboard the ship. They were understandably upset. With all of the pre-cruise emails that we received from Celebrity, asking us to buy things in advance, the cruise ship line should have been able to email most of its passengers to let them know of this change. With the exception of the last day, we booked our excursions with independent operators. We hiked in St. Maartin with Tri-Sport, which was great! We toured St. Kitts with Thenford Gray, which was also fun. We like the smaller groups and more activity, so both of these excursions worked well for us. The last day’s ship excursion (Ft. Lauderdale Land and Sea) started off somewhat dubiously. We had to wait in the bus-loading/parking area for 30 minutes before our bus arrived. However, once aboard, we had a good time and the cruise through Ft. Lauderdale’s canals was super. The boat itself was very well designed and quite beautiful. There was a large open lobby area mid-ship, with two banks of glass elevators. The space was open from the 3rd to the 12th or 14th decks and was spectacular. The ship’s signage and maps were very well done, ensuring that people could get around very easily. And, the displayed art was well-chosen and a super enhancement to the décor. The ship did decorate for Christmas, but it was not over the top and only in the main public areas. We were impressed. All in all, we had a great time and would sail on Celebrity again.   Read Less

Travelled on the Celebrity Silhouette on December 28, 2014 out of Fort Lauderdale with stops in Mexico, Grand Caymans, Jamaica and Labadee, Haiti. We were travelling in a group of 12 people, with ages ranging from 20 to 80. Arrived via plane to the Fort Lauderdale airport on Sunday morning, and we were met by the Celebrity group at the airport - transferring to the ship was easy and only a 10 minute bus ride. We got in line at the terminal to go through security and to check in/obtain our Sea Pass cards and waited over 2 hours. This was one of the worst experiences of the trip. At some points, we were standing in line waiting to go through security and the line up to get your Sea Pass card was so long that they weren't taking anyone through security. No one from Celebrity made an announcement to thank us for our patience, or tell us that something was wrong. All we wanted was a little communication, but nothing came, so our entire group was extremely frustrated. It really put a damper on the beginning of the trip. We finally were on board with our Sea Pass card (which is like your ship credit card - you use it as your room key, way to buy things and drinks on the ship, as well as to get off/on at the ports), and ready to go. The ship is gorgeous, and we hardly ever felt the ship move, only in some of the rougher seas. On our days at sea, we spent it lounging on some lounge chairs on Deck 14 (one above the pools). We would usually get there around 9am and didn't have trouble getting 12 lounge chairs. They will move your towels if you try and get up early to reserve chairs, but we found there were lots of chairs. Only swam in the outdoor pools once - very crowded with kids during the days at sea, but perhaps that is just because of the time of the year. We usually would walk down to swim in the indoor pool which was so nice - perfect temperature, just a great spot to hang around and pretty quiet. The Mast Grill was a favourite to eat at for lunch - delicious hamburgers!! We would then usually go up to the Sunset Bar for drinks later in the evening. Ari and Dev are the bartenders there and I cannot say enough good things about them - very helpful and friendly and made us feel at home!! We ate at the Porch one day for lunch ($7 charge) and it was delicious. We did not eat at the Lawn Club Grill or use the Lawn area, but didn't feel like it was taking away space like I have read in other reviews. We used the fitness area every morning, which had lots of equipment. The walking track was on one of the main floors so unless you were walking at 7am, there was a lot of traffic from general people. The food was delicious everywhere. We had reservations at the Tuscan Grille one evening ($45/person) and it was well worth the money – beautiful spot with nice views off the back of the ship. You can literally eat anything and everything you want on the menu. Our waiter was so nice, everyone ordered meat for the main course and he brought out a bunch of different pastas for the tables to try. We ate at the main dining hall for the other nights – the staff was extremely friendly, the service very quick and the food was delicious. We also upgraded to the premium drink package before we went which I highly recommend, as we didn’t have to worry about signing for drinks everytime we wanted something. As well, you can get basically any drink you want with this package. People have mentioned about the staff trying to upsell them into specialty restaurants, etc in other reviews and I never once felt like the staff tried to sell me anything except asking to get my picture taken. We tried to have a drink at every bar, just to get a feel for them. The Martini bar was our go-to meeting spot, great location and good drinks. People mentioned in other reviews/descriptions of the cruise that Michael’s was a great spot with TV’s and beers on tap and this was not the case. Only people with elite status or those staying in suits’ could access this spot, so there was no bar with TV’s (only the Casino bar that sat like 8 people), and no beers on tap (other than the standard 2 that most bars had). Cellar Masters had a lot of different beers/wines but the bar definitely had the upscale feel and didn’t feel like a spot to hang around with your buddies. We attended 2 shows in the theater – Broadway Nights (musical, song and dance from the popular songs on Broadway) and the last night they had a Ventriloquist who was so funny and very good. Loved the 2 shows we went to! We had excursions booked in Mexico and Jamaica through Celebrity. In Mexico we did the Dolphin Push, Pull and Swim which was great – you got to interact with the dolphins, and then we lounged on the beach afterwards. In Jamaica we did the Dreamer Catamaran, which was amazing, and got to go snorkeling. Can’t say enough good things about both excursions – good for every one of all ages as everyone in our party of 12 took part! Getting off/on the ship at port in Mexico and Jamaica was a breeze, but a completely different story in Grand Cayman and Labadee. In Grand Cayman, the ship was about 30 minutes late to drop anchor (apparently the ship’s engine was not getting to full speed which may have caused the problem), but no one ever made an announcement to say we were late. Then the tendering process was ridiculous. You are told that since we don’t have an excursion booked through Celebrity, you have to go down at 10am ready to go to get a tendering ticket. We went down right at 10am and got ticket #19, so people were lined up well before 10am. Then when the tendering process started, it was extremely slow and our ticket was not called until 1:30pm. Just disappointed there was no communication on this by the staff to explain the process – the other people in my group who had been on many cruises that had tenders said in previous experience with a large cruise ship it never took any longer than 20-30 minutes to get off the ship. We ran into people who had tender tickets up to #42 so I can only imagine how long they waited. In Labadee, everyone was on the 3rd floor waiting to get off the ship, there was no order to the process and one of the officers told us it would only take 5 minutes and we stood there in a giant line for 25-30 minutes before we started moving towards the 2nd floor and off the ship. In both spots, we just went to the beach where we lounged and swam. Overall it was a wonderful experience, the staff, the food, and our 2 excursions were the highlights for our group. I would recommend the Celebrity again, but would try to do it to a location that didn’t have a tender.   Read Less
