This was the first cruise for both myself and my wife, I have to say it exceeded all our expectations. We arrived in Miami from Ireland 2 days before departure, we stayed in the Marriott Biscayne Bay, a great choice. On the day before the cruise we did the full triple crown tour with Miami Tour Company, a wonderful day seeing as much as could of Miami. On departure day, we got an Uber car from the hotel to the port, embarkation was fairly smooth, we were greeted on board at 11.15am and by 11.30am the MDR was open to concierge guests and had a most relaxing lunch along with some wines. Choice was limited but tasty. Shortly after lunch it was announced that cabins were ready, we were on deck 9 concierge class. Our cabin was lovely, my wife was delighted with the storage space, we had 2 large and 2 carry on suitcases and she manage to empty them all with room to spare. We purchased magnetic hooks from Amazon, a great idea! Plenty of space on our veranda, Concierge perks includes foot stools, we used the veranda a lot on sail days, around the pool area which can get very crowded is not our thing. Hector our cabin attendant was fantastic, a very obliging man who couldn’t do enough to make our cruise enjoyable. The cabin (9261) was very quiet, elevators were very close, a great location. Dining: we dined in the MDR most nights on select dining. We were seated on the 4th floor, never had to wait more than a minute or two to get our table. We found both the service and the food to be excellent, however it was nice to get a break from the MDR and we had pre-booked both Murano and Silk Harvest months before the cruise at a good rate, we found both restaurants absolutely excellent. We also tried the buffet restaurant the Oceanview Cafe and maybe we picked a bad night but we found it disappointing. We also tried breakfast in our cabin once, while the order comes to your room bang on time, the quality left a lot to be desired. Most mornings we went to Café al Bacio (excellent) for coffee and doughnuts and then went to the MDR or the Mast Grill for lunch. Bars: We loved the Sunset Bar at the rear of the ship on deck 15, nice and calm and never crowded. At night, the Martini Bar was always busy, a fun place to have a Martini or 2! For a really quiet drink in beautiful surroundings The Ensemble Lounge is the place to go, top class service here! We upgraded to the premium drink package, we did not have to worry then about extra charges on our account! Entertainment: We found the shows at the Equinox theatre outstanding, first show in particular “Remember 63” was marvellous. Most shows lasted around an hour which was just fine after having a lovely meal. My wife went the Corning Glass show, she is still talking about it! Service: Overall, we found service to be very good, never had to wait too long for anything, either in the bars or restaurants. Most staff were friendly and helpful. Ports and Excursions: We booked 2 excursions independent of Celebrity, St Thomas and St Maarten, both excursions were excellent, we did not book any excursion in Puerto Rico, just strolled around the town for a few hours. On departure day, we availed of the express walk off service, a great idea, we were off the ship in 10 minutes, got an Uber car to the Airport and had a hired car on the road to Cocoa Beach by 8.30am! Some passengers have said to us that Celebrity have started to nickel and dime, one cut back was the awful plastic holder they now give for your Seapass cards, the big problem with it is the magnet inside the cover that closes the holder, has a tendency to demagnetise the seapass cards, we had to make a few visits to Guest Relations, they finally removed the magnet inside the holder to solve the problem, however this then rendered the seapass holder useless so we tossed it in the bin! Celebrity please bring back the leather card holder! To sum up, we really enjoyed our cruise, actually we liked it so much we went to the future cruise desk and booked our second cruise for next year, this time on the Reflection (Italy and Greek Islands). The offers were amazing so it was an easy choice. Finally, I would like to give a big shout to Kim and Bob for organising the party at the Sunset bar for sail away, we also got to meet many other people there, what a great way to start a cruise! Until the next time, Slán go fóill ! Goodbye for now! PS Anybody got any questions feel free to ask ! Read Less

My boyfriend is a Royal Caribbean loyalist (Diamond level). I'm a Carnival frequent cruiser. (Platinum). We are now converts to Celebrity. The food was excellent, tasty and varied. The service was even better. After the first 2 days, the staff learned our preferences and practically bent over backwards to accommodate us. The ship is impeccably clean and well maintained. Cabin was clean and spacious. Bar service was prompt and enjoyable. They have a martini bar where the bartenders are starting to learn the basics flair moves, so it is always amusing. Cruise director was extremely personable and improved the experience. Used the Persian Gardens in the Spa area, delightful and relaxing. Lots of fun things happening around the ship. Normally, I am an early-to bed person, this trip we closed down the clubs at 3:30am... Lots of fun. And - on a side note, they have a huge library with comfortable chairs. Great experience! Read Less

We love Celebrity Cruises. Everyone is always helpful, before and during cruise, polite and friendly. The Celebrity Singers and Dancers have always been our favorite. The outside entertainment on this ship were very good. We enjoyed the comedian and other musicians and especially loved the guitarist and the duo. Ashlie Amber did a special performance on our last sea day and it was SPECTACULAR. Excited we had the opportunity to see the Hot Glass demonstrations provided by Corning Glass. My only complaint is that there needs to be more activities besides boring Bingo (yes, I realize the ship makes money) and poolside events. Perhaps that is why the Hot Glass was so "refreshing." The Solarium has always been our favorite hangout. However, this ship does not have the wonderful therapy pool found on the Constellation and Summit. We hope Celebrity will rethink the pool on the Equinox. Would I cruise on the Equinox again? Yes. But I still believe Celebrity can make some improvements. Read Less

this was our 5th cruise (and perhaps the last) with Celebrity. The "last" part of the comment was based on our last cruise which I felt like Celebrity had lost it's mojo. This cruise has renewed my faith in this carrier in delivering an above average to near premium experience. Maybe it was the ship as there are differences even in the same line, maybe it was the stateroom type (Sky suite), but it was definitely the food. Suite guests have a dedicated restaurant (Luminae) and this was simply the best food and the best service we have ever had on a ship. I am not too particular on the menu but it needs to be good food. This restaurant delivered that and so much more. The stateroom was clean and well kept as well as the ship as a whole. The ship does not show it's age. The largest factor in this wonderful cruise was the people. Everyone on the ship but most of all Julio , the stateroom attendant and Ivica our waiter were the best we have ever seen. So too were the shows the best. We can say that Celebrity is still top notch. Read Less

This was our second sailing on the Equinox, the first was our honeymoon in 2010 and this was also my 61st cruise.. Celebrity certainly is a notch above most other lines, from the welcome aboard champagne to the décor and the smiles of MOST staff. Entertainment overall is very good with something for everyone but not necessarily will everyone like everything. The dining room My Time Dining was very efficient if you were strategic about the times you wanted to dine. The hostess always tried to put us in the same vicinity of the same servers, when possible. The food was mediocre, simply put. A fair selection but just mediocre. DO NOT ORDER A STAEK AND EXPECT A RESTAURANT QUALITY STEAK!!! Overall the ship furnishings are starting to show signs of wear and need some to be changed out. NOW the disappointments! Michaels Club has been closed to all except Suite Guests. Even Elite guests cannot use this lounge area. BE PREPARED TO GO PREMIUM!!! While Celebrity is offering classic drink packages almost everything is an upsell. An additional $11.80 per person per day for a decent drink OR you can upgrade by the drink So if you want to sit at the Martini bar and order ANY Martini or wine it's an additional $4.78 per drink. If you want a Chanson Champaign it's an upsell of $2.00. plus 18% grat for a 4 oz pour. NOW if you want to order a non alcoholic ZERO Vitamin water you cannot get it on the classic package and will have to pay $4.50 each. As a comparison I purchase these every week at the local supermarket for $.99 each. RIPOFF!!! The bottom line is that the economical way to do this is to upgrade to premium for $10 plus 18% a day per person or be hit with charges that ultimately will be higher than that doing it individually. It only take 3 to 4 drinks a day to break even with the premium package. Just plan on a couple of hundred more for your cruise. As an Elite I received a "FREE" Gelato. However if you ordered the Gelato as an ice cream sandwich with 2 cookies it wasn't free and the upcharge was $4.95. REALLY!!! The staff overall was very good. Some better than others. There is a more severe language barrier than I have experienced on Celebrity in the past and other lines. Some of the staff has issues making eye contact with guests and you are simply met with a nod of the head and they wait for you to tell them what you would like to order. They hand you the item and walk away. Not good interaction and certainly not what I have experienced on Celebrity in the past. Something is broken here. There is no question that cruise lines that have gone to the "all inclusive" drink package programs have lost touch with the guests because they have pre sold the liquor and other items, so now it's the upsell. They no longer are interested in what is ordered or the level of service because it's already been sold and includes the gratuity. Sea days were very crowded on the open decks. Deck chairs were placed side by side and it was a sea of humanity. Too crowded for an enjoyable day. The solarium pool was nice and quiet but the AC temps were so cold people were laying under blankets and towels. The ports on this sailing were good. Grand Cayman was very quite as were all the ports. GC was quiet because it was a Sunday and most businesses were closed. beaches were uncrowded. We were the only ship in each port we visited. Aruba and Curacaos were great and Bonaire didn't entice us enough to get off the ship. Many guests came back to the ship early and were disappointed with Bonaire. NO FLAMINGOS!. Yes indeed I would sail Celebrity again. Yes I am happy I went and really did enjoy myself, however I didn't come home with the WOW factor that is typical of almost every other cruise I have take, I just booked a 15 day Princess Panama Canal cruise for November. This was the first segment of our Back to Back cruise, ending with the Trans-Atlantic to Fort Lauderdale. We arrived in Barcelona several days early to give us a chance to sightsee and get used to the time zone. The flight from Orlando-Frankfurt was an incredible nonstop. We booked through Choice Air, getting a Lufthansa Premium Economy for a third of what Lufthansa had on their website. Premium Economy is my definition of first class: wide seats, huge legroom, eye masks, blankets, extra checked bags, seating two-across, menu selection for dinner and breakfast, unlimited wine (which we didn't drink). Be aware that Frankfurt airport involves a lot of walking to get to the domestic side. We must have slept on the plane because we had no jet lag issues. This was our second/third X cruise. Ship: Everyone on staff seemed genuinely happy we were there. They always had a "Good Morning" and a big smile. Folks were always cleaning, wiping things down, picking up litter. The ship is quite smooth especially when docking and leaving. Very little vibration or noise. Cabin: 8192 Deluxe Veranda; category 1C. We didn't really use the veranda, mostly to check the temperature outside. The cabin was very quiet, midway between the two elevator areas. We had the adjoining configuration and the hallway doors were open. The cabin had many closets and cubbies we didn't even use. Our suitcases fit under the bed (A CC suggestion.) We brought our magnets and they came in quite handy to keep our paperwork in control and clipped to the wall instead of getting lost on the desk (Another CC suggestion.) The cabin steward and assistant were super. They were always busy and raced to open our door before we could get to it. We heard a rumor that X was changing the cabin staff to just one Attendant per cabin. Hopefully, they will also lower the number of cabins each attendant needs to clean. Will that change the gratuities we pay or they receive? Himmm. The Internet speed improved when I moved my Kindle to a few inches from the cabin door despite there being a Cisco wireless unit a few doors away. The solid shower doors made the shower compartment spacious. We had more clothes hangars than we could use. The provided pillows were quite flat so we asked for contour pillows, which were much better. Internet and the Celebrity Survey: At the end of the cruise, Celebrity has a survey that's only available for 7 days. If you are B2B, they leave special instructions in your cabin for how to complete the survey and get 30 free minutes of Internet time. The instructions made no sense and we went to the I-Lounge, where the Apple dude disabled our account, enabled us to complete the survey on their Mac with their 30 minutes, then re-enabled the account. Dining: We had Select Dining in the MDR, which takes up the entire 4th deck of the MDR. We always asked for a shared table and were seating with different folks in different places each time. On a previous cruise on the Equinox, we had Select dining with a reserved table. We were seated by 5:45 and out in time for the 7 pm show. This time the service was slower. We were rarely out by 7:30. Maybe X has cut back on some dining staff?? The food was always super and it was nice having shrimp cocktail each evening. We had no concerns with the dress code. Long sleeves were fine. Quite a few folks were really dressed up in suits and tuxes. The ladies, of course, always looked smashing. For breakfast and lunch, we most always ate in the Oceanview Cafe. You can get it yourself or they'll custom cook you most anything. Omelettes in the morning, steak, pork or chicken for the other meals. Sometimes the Cafe had nationality nights and all the food was labelled. The desserts were always a massive spread. Activities: Everyone enjoyed picking on Cruise Director Alejandro, including himself. Justin, his assistant, seemed to work all day and all night, and he still was enjoying himself. The evening shows were great. Since this was a 9 day cruise with 7 ports, we really didn't have time for activities beyond the evening show. Ports: Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Malta, Sicily, Amalfi Coast, Rome (Civit), Corsica, Livorno (Florence, Pisa). All of the ports were new to us, so we just took general, overview tours. Barcelona: On the first day, we went to the tourist information place under the Catalunya Square. We bought tickets for the Hop-On, Hop-Off, telling them we were pensioners, saving a few Euros. We already had our Sagrada Familia skip-the-line tickets we purchased a few months earlier for 3:30 pm. We had no problems with the Ho-Ho, using it to take us to the Sagrada, which we walked around until they let us in. We had purchased the audio guide option, which was helpful. We spent maybe an hour there and there was no line to get back on the Ho-Ho. Since the weather forecast for the next day was good, we went back to the Tourist Info place and bought tickets for Montserrat and the tour bus. That was also quite interesting. Palma: The city had a marathon race that day, making transportation a bit interesting. The tour guide decided to go to Soller first, then head back to Palma. Great idea. The van had serious trouble getting to us in the city, what with the marathon. We ended up walking a whole lot more than expected and made it back to the ship with 15 minutes to spare. Valleta Malta. We went to Mdina, then back to the city. It sure made it easier taking the free elevator down to the port, but the way the port is laid out, we ended up walking about two miles from elevator to the ship. Messina Sicily: I recommend NOT taking the cable car to the higher levels of Mt Etna. Salerno Amalfi Coast: I guess all the bad shuttle bus drivers are dead! They really know how to drive around those curves. Pompeii was fantastic and involved a lot of walking over rough surfaces. Rome (Civit): We had a note in our cabin the evening before that the Italian transportation workers would be on strike the day we were there. That didn't affect our tour, maybe delaying it just a bit. Corsica: This was the only X tour we took, to Prunelli Gorges. We needed to burn off our OBC. We were surprised that X used full size buses, given the width and curves of the road. Livorno (Florence/Pisa): Another beautiful stop. We walked all over both places and had a great time. Safety: We took the CC warning about pickpockets to heart and we each had a moneybelt with a copy of our passports and minimal currency and plastic. We never felt threatened. Embarkation/Debarkation: Embarkation was smooooth in Barcelona. We arrived at 10:00 and got on the ship soon after. The cabins opened a bit early and our luggage arrived before the muster drill. As a retired couple, early 60's, we have cruised with other companies but were attracted to this cruise because of the timing and ports visited. We booked a stateroom with balcony (6214) and were very pleased with the size, facilities and comfort it provided for us. We flew from Manchester to Barcelona via Paris and home from Barcelona to Manchester via Amsterdam, no real problems apart from the time spent in airports, but we would prefer to fly direct to the departure port next time we cruise. Celebrity Equinox is a lovely ship, big enough to find lots of places to explore but not too large to become lost in. We had the Classic Drinks package included in our package and found this to be perfectly adequate for social and drinks at dinner. There was a wide choice of bars, inside and outside, all staffed by very friendly crew. We never had to wait for a drink or table service. We had lunch in the café and dinner in the main restaurant and could not fault service or quality/choice of food in either. There is a wide choice of alternative dining venues at an additional cost, but we did not use these as we were more than happy with the inclusive venues. Likewise there is offered a wide choice of tours from the ports visited, but we preferred to 'do our own thing' and used local tour operatives at very low cost and managed without problems. Entertainment on the ship is superb, especially in the main theatre, which we visited every night on board and enjoying each one. Only (very) minor criticism is the lack of tea/coffee facilities in the cabins, not a real problem with the amount of outlets on board, but it would have been nice to have a tea/coffee on the balcony before breakfast (we could have ordered room service if we wanted). Will we be cruising with Celebrity again? Yes definitely, already looking at next year. Thanks to all staff/crew on the Celebrity Equinox for a fabulous holiday. Read Less

The ports were all great full of interesting and varied things to see and do, the ship was beautiful very clean and fresh, the entertainment on board was very good, we ate in the main dining room most of the time, and the food was very nice, our waiter and assistant were excellent, and our room steward very attentive, but that's where it stops, the other members of staff on the bars etc, were indifferent to you, no-one else made any great effort to end that friendly, but we did have a great time, although we sailed in October I would not cruise this area again so late, although the weather was ok, I like it a little hotter September would be better ! We were looking for a cruise with some uniqueness to the port destinations. After being an exclusive 5 time Celebrity cruiser we did look at others but came to the conclusion that Celebrity again provided everything and more than all but luxury lines. We spent the night before embarkation in Barcelona. We were a short 10 minute taxi at 11:30 from the port (20 Euros).Hotel 1898 - excellent! We had Aqua Class boarding and we were having a cocktail in less than 30 minutes on board. This is our 3rd Aqua Class sailing. The cabin is fine for 2 adults. Try breakfast or snacks and drinks on the balcony. Aqua has its own dining with a "lighter" menu....but you can have pretty much anything. Just ask. Silk Harvest (Asian) was a pleasant surprise DO NOT make the mistake of over ordering go back a second time. As I indicated earlier we have sailed with Celebrity before but for some reason the few visits to buffet were notably improved. Don't miss Tuscan.Highly recommend premium drink package! Entertainment measures up to expectations no disappointments. The Spa XCellent. No comment on activities.....we really do not participate but there were a ton of them. We can never rave enough about Celebrity's superior service throughout the entire ship. Whoever has corporate responsibility for service deserves a bonus. I have always thought the ports are great loved Malta and Mallorca, think the tour selection is complete but think the guides usually disappoint. We have already booked a Baltic cruise for 2017. As a celebrity regular this was our first trip on the Equinox. The embarkation was longer than when we've sailed from Southampton or Florida, lot of emphasis was placed on those that had paid for priority booking who probably got value for this service. We queued for the best part of 25/30 minutes. On boarding access to the cabins was extremely quick and suitcases were in situ within 90 minutes of us getting on board. Drinks packages added (all on board credits gone) we explored the ship. I must admit when I booked the cruise I missed the small print stating we were in Barcelona overnight & not sailing until next evening, kind of damped my initial enthusiasm to get into holiday mode, however ..... First night in the Equinox theatre we were greeted by the cruise director who overall did a fantastic job, however the only entertainer we got on day 1 was one of the single musician guitarist who was completely overawed by this being thrust into the spotlight and played two tunes and left the stage, Cruise said no other acts were on show this evening this was due to problems out of the ships control.... Kind of knocked more gloss off the varnish.. Cabin boys were as always excellent and kept the cabin immaculate although they did keep reminding me that our 'views & comments' are vital to them post cruise. Anyway onto other things. The ships show productions we had seen before and still found them of top quality and a credit to the young cast of 16/17 singers and dancers. We make a point of going to the theatre every evening whether in port or at sea. Overall the entertainers were very good. Must admit we thought the Celine Dion tribute along with The MacDonald bros were the best. We ate select time dining & were often left waiting for drinks and top ups of wine on many occasions, something we've not experienced before on Celebrity X. Had some great fun up in the sky lounge most evenings and the waiters here were on the ball. Now.... Sunbathers, I've never seen so many inconsiderate people on a cruise ship as we did on Equinox! People moving their sun beds every few minutes to keep their sunbed facing the sun ? Moving furniture more than a Pickfords removal man. They then proceed to block the walk ways and having no consideration for anyone other than their own themselves ... Shame on you you selfish lot. Couples taking up to 4/5 sunbed stopping others getting a chance to lie in the sun.... Seen so many people taking drinks in bottles (glass) and glasses into the jacuzzis and being asked to refrain from doing so but still continue to consume alcohol in the pool. Felt sorry for the poor pool butler who was trying to stop this from happening. Second cruise I've done since formal evenings being replaced by 'chic' attire. Must admit it's great to see that several still supported the DJ & evening dress, well done to you all. No I didn't take mine but I'm intending on doing so next Celebrity cruise. Some 'chic' left a lot to be desired in my opinion but each to their own hey? Least on formal evenings everyone made the effort unless they dined in the ocean view restaurant. Food in the silhouette was OK although portions at times wouldn't fill my hollow tooth, but if you wanted more you only have to ask. The ships master/Captain has a good sense of humour and his quotes of the day had me smiling... First cruise I've been on where not one comedian was on the entertainment list? Maybe the cross divides of UK/USA/Canadians/Asian different cultures and sense of humour prevented this? The ship does seem to retire early to bed more than we are used to but one can still get a beer till the early hours if needed. Yes overall a good cruise, enjoyed the ports of call although on a 13 night cruise and having 3 overnight stops was not really my idea of 'cruising' it was more like loitering, I do prefer fewer overnight stops but I'm sure finance plays a massive roll here with fuel costs etc I am a celebrity fan and will obviously return ... Having sailed with celebrity cruises 3 times before and had a wonderful time we choose this cruise for its destinations feeling full sure the ship would be great. Destinations were really great however the ship now seems to have been down graded to 3 star instead of the 5 star luxury we have had previously. The holiday was more expensive than the year previously so no changes to previous holidays were expected. To begin with the food and service for our evening meal was not up to the usual standard. We had booked my time dinning and was rudely told by one of the hostesses there was no times not just for the first night but for the whole of the holiday between 6:30 and 8:30 available as these were completely booked up. Therefore we never had the same waiters, on one evening our wine waiter who was very rude over a wine he incorrectly brought. Our morning waitress also argued over bringing us freshly squeezed orange and said the concentrate was just the same. We had paid for a premium drinks package. Also the formal evening had been changed to a so called chic night which was another way of saying anything goes. Only one of these evenings were on sea days the other two were when we were in port. This being different to all previous cruises We had not been informed about this prior to sailing and had therefore paid for extra cases on the flight in order to bring black tie dress suit and evening dresses. The glamour was completely taken out of the evenings. The entertainment was also very poor there was not the usual variety. all in all we were very disappointed in the whole experience on ship this time. We decided to have a treat and go to the Tuscany Grill which was super there we were asked if we were enjoying our time on board by the manager. So we explained our disappointments he took these on board and low and behold from the following night we suddenly received a table in the same spot with the same waiters, better quality food and gushed over which we didn't want. It was such a shame that it couldn't have been better from the start and that we had to feel uncomfortable complaining before getting the service we had always had previously without fuss. Will we sail with Celebrity again Im not sure this also included the friends we went with. Read Less

At 1300 hours cabins were ready. Got our luggage very quickly. Our cabin was lovely and kept clean and tidy by our lovely cabin stewards. The food in the dining was okay. Ocean view Cafe was excellent with very good choices and very hot food. Entertainment was good but production shows could have been better. Ports of call all very good. We just got back from a 13 day trip to Spain and Portugal on the Celebrity Equinox. We were excited about this trip as it was our first time on the Celebrity line. We were disappointed. The ship was dated. The chairs in the clubs were worn and uncomfortable to sit in. All the bars, except for the ones on the top deck, were closed until 5:00PM. We had a balcony cabin which was small, with horrible, lumpy, beds, a small closet, five small drawers and a broken sink. The food was poor in the Café, with limited selections through out the day, and the main dinning seating area. You did have the option of paying for specialty dining but having tasted the food in the main dining area why would you take the chance of paying for a meal and being disappointed. The entertainment was not that good. The ports of call were interesting and that saved the trip for us. I must say getting off and on the ship was very efficient. There were no long lines that we have had on other ships. Would I sail on another Celebrity ship, probably no. Read Less

The ports on this cruise were fascinating and worth visiting ! The ship is magnificent and the crew is even better ! On a 1-10 the crew rating would be 12 ! They do everything within there human powers to make you happy and keep you happy ! The cabins are comfortable , the entertainment only fair but the service everywhere was outstanding ! All of the waiters in the dinning room were exceptional and the food was good too ! Embarkation and disembarkation were perfectly smooth ! Barcelona was a great port to leave from it has everything a visitor wants ! I believe Celebrity is the best value for the money and there extra overnights let you get to know the ports better ! We did our own shore excursions and they all went well ! Not a lot of children on this particular route ! I'm a big fan of Celebrity ! Read Less

We had not been to Spain and thought this would be a good introduction to the cities at least close to the coast. We enjoyed the trip and would go back to many of the stops, we were sad to learn that Celebrity is changing the itinerary. We did not really like the food in the Cafe and the main dining room was OK but not wonderful. I think, since Celebrity has added the specialty restaurants that the quality in the main dining areas has definately gone down. I just don't like the idea of paying more for the type of food we used to expect any evening in the main dining room. Our room was clean and we were well taken care of by our cabin steward. I twisted my ancle on a curb and tried to ice it everyday after walking and there was always ice in the ice bucket for me. The entertainment was also not as good as we remembered from years past, but the MacDonald brothers were great! We did a few tours with Spain Day tours and found the guides to be excellent and very personable. Read Less

The Sky Suites are absolutely gorgeous. The service provided from all suite staff was absolutely great; from the Butler to the attendants. The Suite restaurant Luminae was great but most for the personnel than for the food. The waitresses and the Somelier Nikolina went the extra mile to fulfill our requests. The nightly shows were as good as can be expected. Service in the Martini Bar is as always excellent and very friendly. We only regret the tour to Luca, near Livorno was cancelled because few people reserve. The other thing I would change is the day an a halve stay in Dubrovnik, which you can easily visit in one regular day, and instead I would make that long stop in Villefranche in order to visit Nice, Montecarlo an some other French Riviera cities which you can reach easily by train in a little time. Micheal´s Pub for suite passengers is great, with a cozy ambiance and almost always was almost empty. Manuela, the suite Concierge was very helpful and kind. I certainly wont change Celebrity as my favorite any time soon. Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the ports of call...It was suppose to start in Istanbul but becasue of the terrorist issues it was changed to Athens. We were very disappointed about the change since Istanbul was one of out main reasons we picked this cruise, although the added pot was Chania, Crete which was beautiful. The ship was beautiful and the cabins were big. The entertainment was excellent as were the guest speakers. My biggest disappointment was the fact there was little availability of access to water to drink unless you wanted to pay $500 for 2 for bottled water. The cafe even said to not fill up water bottles....Water pkg. was twice the price of the soda pop pkg, and thats all that was included.... The other disappointment was the Shore excursions...they were way overpriced as most did not include entry fees and no time to go into anything....they also were constantly pushed but were full the 1st day....Do you homework before and get you own excursions..... The food in the Silhouette room was excellent enough to not warrant going to the overpriced specialty restaurants $45 for each person, but as a vegetarian I was quite disappointed as most veg. options were heavy pasta dishes, so I tended to stick with the cafe as it had good ethnic food with lots of options. I did this cruise last year and I wanted to do it again, it was so good. Equinox is an amazing ship and you feel like you are in the best 5 star hotel but better. The itinery was excellent however due to bad weather we didnt stay in Mykonos which everyody was looking forward to. Speciality restaurants Murano and Tuskan were excellent. I woudnt rate Iliniaire though. In comparison to last year, this year's cruise had the following: - the food in the Ocean View Cafe was not as good and it was not hot enough on many occassions. - the staff were instructed to sell Speciality Restaurants constantly and that was a mistake...very aggressive altough the staff were doing their best to be relaxed and polite. - the enertertainment did not feel as good as last year, - djs werent as good either. We still enjoyed the cruise and we would go again but I hope the slipping standard of service is going to be sorted as soon as possible. Read Less

Guest Relations >> The first 3 days of the trip were miserable. The assigned room smelled like an ashtray. We spoke to Guest Relations, who confirmed that all rooms were non-smoking. We asked for another room, but were informed that the cruise was sold out & that no other options were available - which we later found out not to be the case. She supposedly notified housekeeping to do a super clean on the assigned room. After 4 hours & a wasted afternoon, we went back to the room & found that nothing had been done. We also noticed that the room refrigerator was warm & sweating - suggesting that the room steward had left it open when servicing the room between cruises. So we went back, who then had the head of housekeeping come to the room. Even he agreed that the room smelled like smoke. So we went back to Guest Relations and were only able to get another room after talking to the company that had booked the entire cruise ship. was argumentative and rude. Later in the cruise, we had a 3rd interaction with her that was more of the same. I think that she needs to find another line of work. Bar service >> Our first 2 experiences with the bar service on the 1st day of the cruise were unacceptable. In both cases, the bartender had trouble processing a simple drink order. The machine did not work or the machine was out of paper - on the first day of a cruise. Both instances necessitated a manager to help out. Later that week, at the Martini Bar, the bartender prepared and served drinks after handling the trash can without washing his hands, instead only wiping his hands with a napkin. GastroPub >> on Thursday, Aug 19th @ 9:15pm the serves at the GastroPub seemed surprised when we ordered food - a bar that serves drink & food. We waited for 20+ minutes for service of any kind. They were not busy, as only 2 other patrons were sitting at the bar having drinks. A 2nd visit to the same restaurant was even worse. They were surprised that we wanted to even order food. The server on the visit had to check to see if she could even take a food order. So we left after 20+ minutes due to lack of service. Would not recommend. Room key >> Room key kept not working. On one day, we had to have new room keys made within a 30 minute period. Guest relations blamed it on the fact that the cruise organizers (Atlantis) had "special keys". During the 10 day cruise, we had a total of 4 key sets made. Tuscan Grille >> great service, larger than 8 oz serving of filet mignon. Would recommend, even at $45 per person. Silhouette Dining Room >> The first time we tried the Silhouette Dining Room was horrible! The 2nd time was delightful. On the first occasion, we ordered a bottle of champagne. Over the course of a 40 minute meal, no one offered to refill the glasses. We would have done it ourselves, the the bucket was 2 tables over and we were unable to get the waiter's attention to help us out. Toward the latter 1/3 of the meal, I asked to speak to the wine steward or Sommelier (Milovan).. Both came to our table & apologized for the level of service. Both admitted that they were not accustomed to dealing with such an affluent group (our group had booked the entire ship). Both insinuated that our group was not the normal cruise population that they were use to dealing with & that the servers were being challenged above what they were accustomed to. The 1st meal was mediocre at best -- escargot was cold, lamb portion was small & tough. The server failed to bring additional bread and butter as requested. Our 2nd experience at the same restaurant was mostly great. The only flaw here was that we were served Evian rather than the Pellegrino that we had ordered. Marina was the best server we have ever had on one of the 8 cruises that I have done. Would highly recommend her, but not the restaurant under any other circumstances. Would only recommend this ship if you have low expectations & can tolerate poor service. Read Less

I love to cruise so sailing with a company that has excellent customer service and a focus on high standards works well for me. There are so many places to relax onboard which will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to explore when you get off the boat. Although most cruise companies have cut back on the amount of food served, we felt the food in the main dining room was delicious. We consequently did not choose to eat at any specialty restaurants. We sat with other couples our age in the dining room and enjoyed their company and recapping our off shores experiences each night. The indoor Solarium is quiet and child-free and is perfect for sunbathing in a relaxing environment. There are also plenty of quieter spots to watch the ship sail in to new destinations and take wonderful photos. Celebrity reward loyalty. This suits us as we will definitely return! Read Less

Sailed on the Equinox out of Civitavecchia on a 9 day cruise. State room attendants were excellent, stayed out of the way and put up with our late morning starts but were always there when we needed them. MDR service and food was excellent. We didn't like our first table assignment and the maitre d immediately accommodated our request to change and put us in a great location. He was terrific (a great guy from Turkey...forgot his name...), we had a running joke for the length of the cruise, I looked forward to seeing him each evening. Wait staff was also excellent. We tried Sushi on 5 (I think that is the name). It was just okay, much prefer Silk Harvest. We only had dinners at the MDR and the Oceanview. Oceanview food was also very good, the two dinners we had there had great variety and the food at the grill was great. Breakfast at the Oceanview is always hectic but we always found a seat. Best thing about the drink package is the Cafe al Bacio, love the coffee there. Staff there is a tad uptight but its a busy place and maybe they sample too much of their product..... We spent a fair amount of time at the martini bar, the premium drink package helps..... It was the place to be on the cruise at night so at times you had to be patient for a drink. You no longer have to sign your bill if you are on a drink package, I used to tip a little extra but can't do that anymore. Entertainment was pretty good, the Equinox dances and singers were probably the best we have seen on a cruise. The solo performer was very good (from Canada). We didn't love the DJ or the house band. Itinerary had several repeat stops for us. I recommend Corsica, a couple of nice beaches near the cruise port, both walkable. Go see the Napoleon house if you are a history buff. Palma was our favourite port (overnight stop), Valencia second. Cartagena was nice but as it was a long weekend most shops and restaurants were closed. Bad timing on Celebrity's part. Although there are some great Roman ruins sites to see. I used the gym several times, it can get busy but I was always able to get my workout in and do what I wanted. Solstice class ships have great gyms. We met some great people, including several of the crew. Next two cruises will be on Celebrity. Highly recommend. Read Less

We sailed with celebrity for the first time last November on the Eclipse where we went on a 13 night southern exotic cartibean cruise. The ship was amazing with excellent amenities. This time we chose the Equinox doing a 9 night western med cruise which again was excellent. We book concierge class which gives us a little more attention to detail and good service from our concierge room attendant. The cabin for our taste was a bit small but this didn't bother us as we were not in there for long periods. The food is very good in the main restaurant where the waiters are polite, chatty and attentive. We have eaten at all speciality restaurants on these cruises which are very good. Celebrity do try to push these along with the photographers going round the ship and in each port of call. The bar staff were excellent in each of the locations, great banter and provide an excellent service. Unfortunately a couple of the staff in the Bacio coffee shop were rude and would benefit from attending a people skills course. I would highly recommend celebrity cruises so much so we immediately booked our next cruise with them. Read Less

Below is a review of our recent cruise on the Equinox. Our reference point for our review of this cruise is our Eastern Mediterranean cruise last August on the Reflection. We were relatively pleased with our cruise last year. Last year we were in Aqua class, no complaints about the Stateroom, we had a mixed experience food wise in Blu but had a horrible waiter who turned us off the restaurant, we found the MDR pretty decent with food of a good quality, good service and variety. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food in the buffet restaurant. We found the musical entertainment to be excellent but did not do the shows. We loved both Ensemble and Café al Bacio, but found the Sunset bar and Martini Bar to be just OK. Going on Equinox we had reasonable expectations for this cruise. I will first give an overview of the ship and then the different ports we visited. The review is subjective – I fully appreciate that others on the ship will have had different experiences both positive and negative but as the title suggests this is a personal experience. Embarkation Embarkation was efficient. Took about 20 minutes from dropping off bags to getting on the ship. We got the train from Roma Termini. I would not advise anyone with mobility issues or lots of luggage to do this trip. After getting to the station in Civitavecchia we had To get a local bus to the port entrance and then a second bus to the ship. A transfer is probably far easier or alternatively stay in Civitavecchia the night beforehand as it seems like a pleasant place. Stateroom We had a forward port side cabin on the Deck 11. The cabin was pretty similar to Reflection although we were disappointed that we had to clean the drawers ourselves as they were dirty from the previous guests. To be fair the cleanliness afterwards was of a decent standard although the linen changes seemed to be a lot less frequent than last year –they rotate the same sheets if there is a stain. Also some cost cutting going on with toiletries and we had to ask for more. The stateroom attendant was always pleasant and was helpful if we asked for anything but my suspicion is that they are required to apply new cost-cutting practices. We did find that the balcony was not always useable – we had no warning that work would be done to the deck above and unfortunately ended up being covered in paint chips and rust while sitting out one morning. On another occasion we got wet as there was cleaning going on above. Fellow guests We felt that the mix of nationalities was different to last year. The biggest numbers appeared to be British although may be this was because they were the most visible. It certainly seemed that there were less Americans on board than last year reflecting I suspect some of the recent incidents in Europe. Musical Entertainment We felt that this was definitely not as good as last year. The variety or the talent was not as good and we found by day 3 it was getting boring an very samey. Pool entertainment and experience All I can say here that it is akin to a Butlins experience. Do not expect any tranquility. Do expect stupid and intrusive games together with poor and loud music (some may like this so take this as a personal preference). It felt very crowded compared to the Reflection with a lot of chair hogging for hours with no enforcement. Very few pool butlers around but found the drinks service the two times we were upon deck ok. Equinox Theatre We did not go to the production shows so cannot comment on whether the new shows were any good. Reports from people we spoke to were mixed – some loved, some did not. We did go to a few of the other events such as the couples show and liar which were amusing. Although one comedian show was clearly very British orientated and the general tone was anti-French. Strange to see that kind of humour in a multi cultural environment. In room entertainment An area where cost cutting is clearly be seen. There were only 6 free movies and they were still showing the same episodes of 2013 Top Chef as 12 months ago. This is just lazy. Perhaps ‘modern luxury’ is a one time experience only!! Food and dining On any holiday we expect a good standard of food and service and the evening meal is a critical element to this. Given the prices charged by Celebrity we expect to receive quality food and service in all outlets. Paying in excess of 450 euro per night is not a small amount of money. Buffet restaurant This was a highlight last year but it is clear that there is some heavy cost cutting going on. The quality of food was not great and it did not feel that there was much variety. Further the service for drinks and coffees was remarkably lacking – too few staff but perhaps just another part of the cost cutting exercise. Overall a strength of Celebrity has turned into a big negative as far as we are concerned. Breakfast – the omelettes were good but the poached eggs were completely inconsistent. There was very little salad options. The bacon was extremely salty, the sausages were cheap (last year they were good quality), the hash browns the one day I had them were cooked in dirty oil, the smoked salmon tasted cheap. The fruit was very mixed – some fresh melon but using frozen berries and tinned sweet fruits when they are in season does not represent quality. There was a big push on heavy carb pastry options – if you push these then more expensive ingredients are needed less. It was also really crowded – people pushing. Lunch – aside from the curry, we were generally unimpressed. Variety poor. Meats were dry particularly the Chicken. Had fish one day but it was completely over cooked. Salads were fairly ok but very little variety. Big push on the carb options. The nice prawns and seafood which were available last year did not materialise. Dinner – we had one dinner last year year which was of excellent quality including good seafood, nice meats, salads etc. This time the food was less interesting than the poor lunch. The cold cuts used poor quality meats, the nice Parmesan cheese had disappeared, there was very little variety and not at all tempting. It was also clear that salads from lunch were recycled for dinner. Mast Grill Had lunch here twice after returning from port stops. First time the burger served to us was still raw in the middle. Second time the burger was dry and the fries were not hot. Café al Bacio A highlight last year but did not met expectations this time around. Just felt they were understaffed. Tables took a long time to be cleaned. A longer wait. Although open to midnight, the lovely cakes disappeared around 11.20 which was pretty annoying as we planned dessert there. Blu We did not have high expectations for Blu after last year. Overall it was better than expected. Service at times was outstanding – the Indian wine waiter helpfully sourced a wine we liked from another bar. Although on another occasion the other wine waiter topped up with the wrong wine – we had not even asked for a top up. Overall it was positive. In terms of the food some of it was outstanding – the lamb shank, the scallops, the ceviche, fish cakes. Other dishes were not great for instance the pork medallions were completely dry and the tagliatelle with clams was absolutely terrible. 4 clams and a tonne of over cooked pasta with too little sauce. A few salads were also missing ingredients. This is sloppy. We had 6 dinners here. 2 great, 3 OK, 1 bad. Main Dining Room We liked the MDR last year and this time was no different although there is now one less course on the menu and the portions were smaller. They do allow you to order more but you need to ask. In term of the food we had – the prime rib was delicious as was the onion soup. The lobster tail and the beef Wellington were very good also. Desserts were just ok. Service was on two nights efficient and friendly. On the final night it was terrible. Speciality restaurants We had planned to eat in the Toscane Grill but were advised against by some fellow guests who ate there twice. The other restaurants did not appeal. We think that the lawn club grill is missed on the Equinox. Sushi on 5 opened but it never seemed busy. I am not a sushi lover but I did not think the prices for other items offered value. But if one had on board credit then it could be something to try. Bars Before reviewing the different bars, it seemed to us that there were a lot less servers for the different bars. Maybe this is due to the fact that the majority of passengers are on “complimentary” beverage packages. The drinks are expensive and frequently the more expensive wines (and some lower priced but better wines) on the premium package were not available. Perrier was not available at many of the bars despite it been a signature non-alcoholic drink for the premium package. The up selling from the classic package was relentless over the first few days. We already had it but the bartenders were more interested in trying to sell the package that service was lacking for others. The other annoying thing is that sugar or agave nectar is already in all the “fresh” lemon and lime juices so if you want low sugar cocktails it is not possible. This is not premium and not modern luxury. Ensemble A favourite bar last year and again this year. Good selection of drinks and the Thai bartender was first class (a real asset to the company). Where it was not as good was the music. Same acts every evening with the same music. Sunset Bar Better set-up than on Reflection but never really warmed to it. Staff were brusque unless selling the premium package. World Class Bar Loved the drinks list and the two drinks we had were nice but service was very poor. Did not go back and did not warm to it. Slush Like world class bar – great in theory. Our one experience was trying to order a sugarless cocktail. The bartender did not use the ingredients stated and just filled it up with a cheap and sugary mix not even on the list. Martini Bar Went here. Waited 10 minutes for service. It did not happen so left. Passport Bar Did not stock Chandon Brut or Perrier so did not get a chance to review. Gastro Bar We liked the ambience and the drinks but service was very mixed. Too few staff when busy. Casino Bar Happened to pass by – ordered a Bloody Mary to have on the balcony which was excellent and he even gave us a celery stick which was not provided in the sunset bar. Overall The Reflection experience in 2015 was far superior. All our fears about big line cruises came true this time with poor food, crowded, mixed service and all inclusive. Equinox 2016 has put us completely off celebrity. We went on board expecting to book a few more cruises with them but by day 4 we both independently decided – no way. Celebrity are making corporate decisions whereby what was attractive 12 months ago is no more. We are also noticing a trend in recent reviews as well as similar comments by other Celebrity loyal guests All in all, a poor cruise but we really enjoyed our time on land. Ports of Call Livorno We have been to Florence and Pisa many times so decided to hang out in Livorno. Free shuttle to city centre. Pleasant enough place to wander around. Not much open as it was a Sunday. Only regret was not having a nice lunch off the ship. Villefranche This was a tender port but the scenery in port is beautiful. We decided there and then that we will take a break in this area next year so that took off the pressure of doing too much. We had a lovely day. Wandered around the craft market. Chilled over a glass of wine on a terrace restaurant/bar. Then a few hours on the beach with some nice swims in the Med. Really enjoyable and relaxing. Ajaccio, Corsica Similar to the day before. In the morning we went to the food market. Delicious produce especially the meats. Had a nice wander around the town with some nice boutique shops. Back to the ship for lunch (poor decision) and then spent the afternoon on the beach. Enjoyable day and may consider a weekend there sometime. Palma (overnight) The port is out of town so the shuttle is kind of essential. Although there is a big shopping centre within walking distance of the ship. The shuttle cost 15 euro for the 2 days but unfortunately the last shuttle was 10pm so not really an option for dinner outside. But perhaps we should have.. Nice city. Good shopping. Friendly. We did the Palma Free Walking Tour (you tip) which was quite good and saw some of the main sites as well as getting a flavour of the history of the city and island. Had a delicious lunch on the first day and expect we will go back. The sales in El Cortes Ingles were appreciated. Cartagena We had no real expectations but really enjoyed this stop. Walk off the ship and in the centre within 5 minutes. Had the most delicious fried baby octopus in an unassuming bar in the city. Did some nice walks and had a great day. Valencia Valencia was a bit messy. There was a shuttle for 5euro return to the centre but the organisation was not good. We walked outside and then sent back inside to buy tickets. Contradictory information on when the last bus was etc. Not impressed. The city itself is pleasant. Did a fantastic walking tour of the city with an excellent guide. Free Walking Tour Valencia (tip was generally 10 euro a head). Had a wander around the city. To our regret we did not eat out but sat bus was 3:30 or so, it would have been a little rushed. Enjoyed the tour but not my favourite Spanish city – felt crowded. Read Less

This was our second ever cruise the first one being on the much fated Anthem of the Seas last summer. Where we didn't have a great time on Anthem of the Seas we somehow caught the cruise bug. We flew to Barcelona one night early and really loved the city and the excellent Eurostars Grand Marina hotel. This was indeed the highlight of our holiday as things were about to get a lot worse as we found out. The Ship. Embarkation resembled walking through a Moroccan Market being constantly hassled to buy things. It was dreadful. I don't understand the tactics behind this. Surely if guests wanted dinner reservations, drinks packages this would all be organised before their trip and not whilst getting on the ship. Our room was nice but basic. It strikes me as a little odd why they are about a third of the size of a conventional hotel room. It was clean etc etc but nothing to write home about. Our main concern was the quality of the food offered on board. Having read other reviews on here and speaking with fellow guests during the cruise it seems we were not the only ones bitterly disappointed by a severe lack of quality. Some days the OceanView cafe food was simply in edible. It resembled poor school dinners. The restaurants in the evening were equally as poor. When spending thousands of pounds on a holiday you expect a certain level of quality. It simply does not exist here. All in all we were very very disappointed with this cruise company and suffice to say will never use them again. Read Less
