Celebrity Eclipse is rated as a 5.5-star cruise ship, for which I had brought a high expectation before boarding the ship. However, it was not anything that I had expected and I consider the ship is worse then many other 4.5 star ships that I have cruised (overall impression). It was a very boring ship. No activities such as barbecue/fruit lunch or dinner organised for which some 3.5-star ships would provide (such as Costa Victoria). The most disappointing part on the ship was dinner. Choice of food, including appetizers, entrees, and desserts were very limited. The quality and taste of food were not enjoyable. Evening performance was not attractive. Most of the evenings, the ship only used its own cast to perform. One of the worse cruise experience I have ever had (I have cruised 25 times) . Service of the dining room waiters, bar tenders, cabin steward, and customer service are good. Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate our 50th anniversary and we wanted something out of the ordinary to remember it by. The cruise around the Horn was just what we were looking for. The only complain I had is the sail around the Horn went to smooth--calm seas and no wind was not what I was expecting, but I think most of the passengers were delighted, including my wife. The Eclipse is an amazing ship and the staff was just wonderful. Alejandro was our cruise director and was the best we have ever had. The captain and Alejandro kept us up to dat with all the events happening on the ship. Ship embarkation at San Antonio went smooth although the terminal is not the most modern. The ramp up to the ship was very steep and several people had trouble climbing it. We were booked Aqua Class for the first time and enjoyed the amenities very much. Our cabin was on deck 11 and was very nice, but also exactly like normal veranda cabins. We ate in Blu and enjoyed it immensely. Wait staff was awesome and food was very good. Onboard lectures in the "from the podium" series were excellent. Lectures included geography of the Chile and Argentina areas we were cruising around as well as history and information about the local people and food. Library was well stocked at the beginning of the cruise but the staff took all the books from the shelves for sanitation reasons when a norovirus outbreak occurred. Entertainment was outstanding. The Celebrity singers and dancers presented several broad way calibre shows and the guest entertainers were also very good. The first night show was by a gaucho group called Impact who had appeared on America's Got Talent and went deep into the competition. There were matinees at 2:30 in the afternoon on most sea days which were very well attended. Wait lines for getting off the ship at each port were very long, especially at tender ports which was most of them. Lines to get back on the ship were usually very long since most people were getting back from excursions at the same time. Shore time at each location seemed too short. We seemed to be struck by an unusual number of passenger incidents that resulted in at least 4 people being evacuated to a shore hospital. One of these required us to reverse course to Puerto Madryn after leaving the port by at least 5 hours to evacuate a passenger. This resulted in missing out next port, Punta del Este, but the life of the passenger greatly outweighed any inconvenience to us. Ship staff took immediate action when a suspected norovirus a outbreak occurred. Strick sanitation procedures went into effect to limit the number of cases. Debarkation went very smoothly but we had booked an excursion of the Tigre River Delta that then dropped us off at the airport. Read Less

Celebrity Eclipse Trip San Antonio Chile to San Diego California March 24 2019 Embarkation poor. Had people lined up for hours waiting to be processed. There was no place for anyone to sit. Other cruise lines issue a number and have passengers sit to wait for their number to be called. The gangplank to the ship was very steep so the staff had to strain to push wheelchair passengers on the ship. Room 9402 very nice and good location, efficient room design with the exception of no electric plug next to or near bed. I called Crucon prior to sailing and requested distilled water for a piece of medical equipment. It was not there. I am sure that there are many people who use a CPAP machine at this present time. Our room attendant Kam, came and introduced himself. He was pleasant and carried out requests. There were no extra special touches in the room, ie cotton buds, shower caps, razors or emery boards in fact you could not even purchase an emery board aboard the ship. There was only soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. We were not served a complimentary bottle of champagne as we were served on prior cruises,We had to ask for ice to be present in our room in the evening. There is no folder in the room to describe anything about the ship or contain a list of room service foods. I still don't know if room service is available for meals other than breakfast. There was a sheet for us to fill out every evening for breakfast. We had coffee in our room every day and twice they delivered without cups and milk. The towels and sheets had a funky unpleasant odor, perhaps it was their detergent or not enough detergent. The air conditioner/heat control was not predictable, one time it would be very cold on a setting and the next time it would be uncomfortable at that same setting. The room would become warm while we were in port. The bed was not wonderful, there was no pillow top softness but I am like the princess and the pea. The pillows were OK. Trip route- It was a relocation cruise and the stops were not earth shaking. The prices for ship trips to essentially nothing locations were very expensive. We only did two trips, one to Lima and the other in Punta Arenas Costa Rica. Both were interesting. The other ports did not have anything that looked like we needed to explore further or sounded uninteresting. Entertainment- Stale and according to passengers who previously sailed on the ship it was a repeat of the same performances. The songs were dull and uninspiring. The entertainment was aimed at old people and I am older than god. They need to update their performances. The Eclipse Orchestra was the highlight of the performances. They need to continue with “Live Orchestras” not a digital replacement that is being contemplate by the company. All of our table mates refused to attend the performances because of them being so boring and repetitive. Service-The staff were very positive, smiling and caring throughout the ship. The Captain was a pseudo comedian. Alejandro the master of ceremony was great. Jose P and Edwin our staff in the dining room were caring and attentive they get a 10 out of 10! Food- Terrible!! On previous trips the many tasty main courses offered were wonderful, one had to make a decision of choosing from all the very appealing meals offered most every evening. On this cruise trying to find even one was a difficult task, in fact there were many nights we only had appetizers for our meal because the selection was so poor. On the dress up nights there was nothing special offered except on the last dress up night and another regular evening soft shell lobster not New England lobster. The breakfast and lunch buffets were OK. The salad dressing were horrible. There were people stationed at the entry of cafeteria dispensing hand sanitizing solution but there are no hand washing places there. Hand washing is the only way to truly prevent novovirus. Passengers complained that there was a respiratory illness spreading aboard the ship toward the end of the cruise. Disembarkation-A nightmare! Directions printed for passengers to follow were not written by an English speaking person and were very confusing. Other passengers stated the same regarding the poorly written directions. No one knew where they were to go or wait. There were lines all over the ship. Exiting from the ship was down a very steep gangplank. If I had my luggage I would have been propelled down the gangplank. Being in a wheelchair would have been very scary. Summary We are not gung-ho cruisers but have enjoyed our previous 7 cruises because the food was outstanding, the entertainment fun, but this trip left a bad taste in our mouth. I am not sure we will cruise again anytime soon. Is Celebrity trying to drive people do the specialty dining?? I refuse to pay additional money that probably amount to $100+ for each night to get a decent meal. If this is their object the staff will be shortchanged and service will suffer. The staff in the dining room depend on their tips to supplement their income. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary, which was Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, including sailing around Cape Horn and Straits of Magellan. It was a 14-night cruise. The Eclipse is a beautiful ship that is elegantly furnished. The staff provided outstanding service, especially our room attendant and wait staff in the main dining room. We were really disappointed in the quality of the food in the main dining room and in the Oceanview Cafe. The presentation of the food was always very appealing, but flavor and options were severely lacking. In addition the Oceanview Cafe was extremely crowded. Twice, we were unable to find a seat and had to go elsewhere to eat! After about the 4th day, they started putting extra tables and chairs in the walkway through the cafe. The quality of entertainment in the Eclipse Theater was not what we've been accustomed to having on a cruise ship. We went to the theater nearly every night, but left early everytime with one exception. The talent just was not there. The one night we stayed all the way through the program was when they had a trio called, "Shades of Buble." They sang songs recorded by Michael Buble. They were talented, and we enjoyed them. We had 4 excursions scheduled. The one in Puerto Madryn was cancelled due to the rain the night before that has washed out the roads. I was really disappointed because we were going to see penguins, which I was looking forward to. The other excursions were all very good. We had one in Buenos Aries which was a tour of the City, a visit to San Telmo Market and a fabulous steak dinner in a restaurant. We also did an excursion in Montevideo, Uruguay which was a tour of the City and a visit to a ranch where we were treated to a hay ride, bar-b-que (not too good) and all the wine, beer or water we wanted to drink. We had an excursion in Santiago that was very nice. It took us to a nice historical plaza and a tour through the City, a lapis luzili shop and finally to a lovely park on San Cristobal Hill. After this tour, we were taken to the airport to pick up our luggage that had been transferred there and catch our flight. That process was well coordinated by the ship and the tour company and worked very smoothly! Read Less

My wife and I have become fans of Celebrity and Royal Caribbean for quite some time. >The service is excellent!! The staff on the ship are friendly and very helpful. My wife has a hard time getting around, the excursion team did an excellent job of helping us get to the excursions buses. Our dining room staff couldn't be anymore helpful. >Food is excellent, in all restaurants, buffet, etc. >Cabin was clean and comfortable. The steward was very helpful and took of room very well. We were at the very aft end of the ship.. WHAT A VIEW. We could see 180 degrees and going through the Chilean Fjords was amazing.. >We had a fun time at the Captain's Club events. >The ports were very interesting and unique. >We used Choice Air.. What a great idea that was. We did not have to worry about our luggage getting to the ship, Celebrity took care of that. I am now looking at using Choice air when we travel on Celebrity and Air to Sea on Royal Caribbean whenever we cruise. Read Less

We spent 31 days going around Sout America and the ship and staff were outstanding. The Antartic ocean was very cold and we did not take enough warm cloths. Birds and animals were outstanding. Met some super friends. The entertainment on the ship was a let down. Haw many times can one sit and watch the ship dancers. They need more professional entertainers. The meals were excellent. We visited the Michael's club every evening and wow - what a great staff in that room. The internet was down several times, but that was most likely because of the ship's location. My wife requested a special wine before we saiked and Celebrity did their best to make her happy - thank you Celebrity. I would remind anyone who reserves a room under the Lido deck to beware - you will hear foot traffic starting around 6 am. Thanks again Celebrity for a wonderful cruise. Read Less

The ship was perfect, the crew fantastic, great entertainment and from the top (Captain Leo and CD Gioseppe) to our cabin attendant etc. was top top noch. Food was great in Luminae and BLU and spec. restaurants. To all the hardworking people in the Martini Bar, Luminae, Michaels Club, Guests relation, FUTURE cruises, Murano, Qsine (Le petit chef), pool area, pool bar, entertainment, orchestra Ocean View Cafe, El Bacio Security people, THANK you so much for your hard work. You are the reason that we will continue to book Celebrity cruises. And to see RIO during carnival was fantastic - you really cant imagine how big it is, until you are there and discover it yourself. Sailing to and from the same port of call is a great advantage to me. This time from beautiful and cosmopolitan Buenos Aires is a plus to this cruise. I live there! The celebrity Eclipse is a luxury ship with plenty is amenities for all tastes: fitness center spacious with many elements and sea view from all corners, live music all the day long in different locations, matinee shows on sea days and evening shows every night with international artists, indoor and outdoor pools and whirl pools, spa and Lersian garden to relax. Food is fantastic in all restaurants, main one Moonlight Sonata is huge. We had access to Blu the exclusive restaurant for Aqua Class passengers which was cozy and well attended by Nelly and all Blu staff. Buy sailing along Paradise Bay in Antarctica is the most fantastic experience I have had in my entire life! Put it in your bucket list!! The views are outstanding with a few huge whales and tiny penguins swimming along the ship. Ports of call are also worth visiting Ushuaia southern most city in the world, Falkland/Malvinas Islands, Puerto Madryn , Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Each has it beauty and charm. Read Less

Chose this cruise for the ship and the itinerary. We were on this ship when it was new. Ship seems very much the same. Ship was clean and rooms were spotless. Food was mediocre in the main dining room not due to the menu but perhaps with poor quality meats, with a few exceptions and Murano was wonderful. We ate in Murano 5 nights and it never disappointed. The ports were very boring and long drives in bad weather. We mostly liked staying on the ship. The entertainment was fair to good from what we saw. We met a lot of very nice people and it was fun. I would not choose South America for a fun destination. The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a five was because of the MDR and the poor ports. The service was very good except in the Ocean View cafe. It was very difficult to find someone to clean the tables, although the food was very good. The Martini Bar was excellent. Read Less

Having cruised across many different venues, this cruise offered something different in an area of the world we had not yet explored. Going in January meant it was summer but the weather was a bit colder than many people expected. We brought the right clothing but some must have expected beach weather. As always, Celebrity's service, food, entertainment and ambiancwe were great. They had many different excursion options, but not a single one provided support for handicap people. I use an electric scooter and the tours did not accommodate it. But we were able to find tours in every port that supported our needs. Often these were private taxi tours that were designed just for us. Celebrity did do a good job of getting me on and off the ship, even in tendered ports. This was greatly appreciated. This cruise highlighted seeing wild life (e.g. pengiuns, sea lions, sea birds and even an occasional whale). You would not see this scope of wild life anywhere else. It also took us to cities that have unique cultures and ways of life. It was very educational. Overall it was a vey good cruise. Read Less
