This 14 night cruise of the Southern Caribbean is a Caribbean cruise like no other. It stands out among the many Caribbean cruises for many reasons, the length of the cruise, the ports visited, numerous sea days to enjoy the Caribbean sun and all while on a great ship the Celebrity Eclipse.
Most Caribbean cruises that I am familiar with are a simple 7 days of the eastern Caribbean or the western Caribbean. This cruise not only differs from the same old ports but provides a very nice 14 days onboard. The ports of Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten provide a nice alternative to San Juan, St. Thomas, Cozumel, Jamaica and the proverbial private port or island. The Islands visited provide diverseness in scenery, beaches, port towns, tours etc. On our cruise we experienced kayaking and snorkeling in the mangroves of Bonaire, the wilderness of Curacao on an ATV, sailing the blue waters of Aruba and Barbados, relaxing mud baths of St. Lucia as well as tours of all the islands visited. On most every island there is more you can do on a second or third trip to them. Celebrity provided us two amazing days in Aruba as we spent an overnight there.
With 5 sea days there was plenty of time to enjoy the sun around the pool, partake of the many Celebrity Life activities, get in your exercise to burn off those extra calories from the fine cuisine or simply chill out on your own veranda. Trivia, lectures, glass shows, classes of various kinds and group activities all made these days simply fly by all too quickly.
As always Celebrity provided fine entertainment each day and evening around the ship. The production shows were outstanding. The other nightly shows all proved entertaining, I did not miss one of them. Cruise Director Eddy Jenkins had a unique style that I particularly enjoyed, entertaining without going over the top. The various musical groups onboard were all outstanding with the exception in my opinion of a group called Sound Stars, while the musician were good the lead female singer was, how can I put this, hard on the ears. I simply could not stand listening to her but to be fair many enjoyed themselves dancing to the various numbers they attempted. The production show Euphoria is arguably one of the best production shows on the high seas, reason enough to sail on this grand ship.
We bought a 5 night specialty dining package on tis cruise so I skipped my usual negotiation for a better price. We did two nights in Tuscan, two nights in Murano and one in Qsine. We dined in in Tuscan the first and last nights that provided a nice beginning and end of the cruise. Qsine was a group activity with a cruise critic roll call group which is always fun, we had 15 participating on this cruise.
I cannot give enough accolades to the ships staff, from the captain on down all were outstanding. We had a normal veranda room and though a little tight is was well maintained and the bed very comfortable. Our room steward kept it spotless and took good care of us. Waiters in the specialty restaurants and main restaurant provided outstanding service throughout the cruise. The menu provided ample selections to choose from at every meal. The quality of my food was also simply outstanding. When we visited the buffet (which was not often as it was always difficult to find seating for four) the food selection was ample and good. I did partake of the pizza as it was freshly handmade and reasonably good. Eating venues around the ship were equally good.
In short this ship well run and well maintained. The staff exceeded my expectations at every turn. The itinerary is a very good one for a Caribbean cruise and it is too bad it appears celebrity is not going to repeat it in the future. Would I cruise on the Celebrity Eclipse again, absolutely.
