We enjoyed our 7 day Alaska cruise on the Eclipse. The Eclipse ship was comfortable, spacious , and clean. Everyone was so friendly and the service was wonderful. Our stateroom 8257 was very comfortable & clean, we had a great view from our Balcony. Our housekeeper "Melvin" was so very cheerful and helpful. Melvin took care of all our needs every day, ie extra towels as many time that we needed them , he placed ice in the ice bucket every evening for me at 9 pm, brought personal items for our person care when needed, . Melvin always greeted us every day when he saw us with a warm & cheerful good morning (day) & have a wonderful time I hope Celebrity realizes they have a winner they have n Melvin I have some severe food allergies & was very concerned about the preparation of the food during my cruise. I am very allergic to MSG, raw Ginger, raw Garlic, spices like curry, turmeric, cumin so had to avoid them especially Indian & Asian dishes. Therefore, on the first day of the cruise I spoke to the Maitre d" in the the main dinning room and explained my concerns. He was really understanding and made special arrangements for me, he spoke personally with the chef about my dietary needs. Then he arranged for me to see the next days menu so I could select what I would like to eat and then checked with the chef to confirm that the meal was safe. By doing this I was able to relax and enjoy my dinner every evening without having to make it an issue. I would like to say thank you to our amazing and charming waiter, Vincent and the assistant Viviano. They took special attention to all our needs and made every evening very special. I extent my special thank you to the Maitre d, and the Chef for taking very good care of me. We ate at two of the Specialty Dinning Restaurants and enjoyed the meal, and attentive service. We selected the Tuscan Grille for a romantic Italian dinner & exceptional service (2 times) also the Qsine La Petite Chef because of the unique dinning experience show & gourmet dining (2 times) We enjoyed the 4 shore excursions that we took. Alaska is a beautiful place and make sure you go ashore or take am excursion to experience the place. The excursions are expensive but worth it, It was difficult so select which ones to take. My favorite was the Hubbard Glacier Inside Passage Cruise. Make sure you dress warmly for Alaska as it was very cold during the Alaska cruise. I, actually had to purchase a warm fleecy hoodie at one of the stores on the cruise to wear to keep warm . The entertainment shows in the Theater were amazing. The director of entertainment Lauren was very profession, funny and delightful to speak to when she was on board the cruise. I would recommend this cruise to my friends and family if they show any interest in going on an Alaska in the near future. In closing I wish to say thank you to all the staff/crew that made this cruise a wonderful memory. Read Less

Intro: I have to say so far for us Celebrity has been to date the best cruises my hubby and I have done. I don’t think that any Cruise line has lived up to my expectations 100% of the time, and yes even Celebrity has some faults, but when on board and talking to other avid cruisers, almost all say Celebrity beats any other cruise line they’ve been on. Embarkation: Three ships in port in Vancouver on June 2nd. The drop off area was changed so we had to go underground to do this. This incurred a lot of walking, we had to zig zag, go up then down, then up again, down again. It was the craziest embarkation we’ve done so far. Thank goodness for the porters who took our luggage right away. They can do this as we already printed and attached our boarding luggage tags, which cuts down on waiting in another line. So I definitely recommend doing this ahead of time. If you have a disability and need assistance let someone on staff know and they will help you directly onto the ship. 7/10 rating Sail Away: Live band playing on the upper deck, which I love. Really gets you into vacation mode, however they only played a few songs, packed up and left just as the party was getting started. Usually the band will do an exciting countdown as we sail under the Lion’s Gate Bridge, but this never took place. 7/10 rating Dining: Mast Grill -Lido deck 14, outside. Complimentary This was open on embarkation day, so if you don’t want to fight the lines in the buffet it was a nice, quiet spot to grab a burger & fries or a hot dog. Oceanview Cafe- Lido deck 14, inside. Complimentary This buffet area had an excellent assortment of delicious food. My favorites are the chicken & okra curries. Some of the best I’ve eaten. They featured items daily which is mentioned in your newsletter. I only ate here a couple of times as I’m not a big fan of overly crowded areas and don’t like searching for a place to sit. You can take your food outdoors, however need to go down a floor or flight of stairs if you want to eat on the outside pool deck. Aqua Spa Cafe- Resort deck 12, inside. We loved this little cafe by the indoor pool area which opts for healthier choices or light little dishes of food- complimentary, and smoothies (fee $). I kept on going back for the Chicken Salad. The Asian Noodle Salad with the spicy oriental dressing was delicious. The 1/2 Turkey Bacon Sandwich on pumpernickel bread was also a hit as a light bite. We also enjoyed the soup which you need to order. This cafe is open for breakfast and lunch. MDR-Moonlight Sonata- Promenade deck 4, inside The main dining room is open daily for lunch (and for Concierge guests on embarkation day) but I never had lunch there. This dining room is gorgeous, its white, bright monogrammatic decor gives a feeling of airiness & elegance in this large venue. We only ate here for breakfast one morning. Service felt a little slow and our breakfast was just o.k. Moreno- Entertainment deck 5 We booked this restaurant for our first night as Celebrity offers their specialty restaurants at a discount then, which is an excellent way to enjoy your first evening at sea and away from the crowds especially in the MDR. The dining venue is a bit dark, and if you’re looking for an ocean view you will not find it here. Our $35 discounted fee included an appetizer, main entree & dessert. The Diver Scallop Wellington Style Baked in Puff Pastry appetizer with Black Truffle Emulsion was definitely a favorite for our group of six. We all ordered double and they allowed us to do so. We were off to a good start, however when our friend ordered another scallop dish in lieu of dessert they seemed a little ‘put off’ by it but obliged. Sushi On Five- deck 5 Not much to write about. Ate at this restaurant on the Infinity, it was so good we so couldn’t wait to try it again on the Eclipse. Something didn’t feel right...the ambience was different, service not as attentive, we ordered the same food, but it just wasn’t as delicious as it was on Infinity. Blu- Specialty restaurant for Aqua class guests- Entertainment deck 5. Opened for breakfast & dinner - No reservations We were a little skeptical to book the Aqua class cabin, however for us it ended up being one of the highlights of our cruise & dining, that’s why we didn’t bother to venture much elsewhere. On this cruise the cost wasn’t much more but it was well worth the little extra $$ to book Aqua class. Blu’s food was exceptional for dinner, breakfast was good. There are still the daily feature items you can order from the MDR that’s not listed on Blu’s menu (appetizer: Caesar salad, Escargot, French onion soup, Shrimp cocktail & for dinner: chicken, steak & salmon). Blu has its own kitchen with about five chefs. The conception is to provide healthier meals, so the Calamari will be grilled not fried & sauces are made more like an au jus than thickened with flour. My favorite meal for dinner was the lamb shank, it was fall off the bone delicious served with a curried couscous, some ordered it with potato...I can’t say I’ve had better in any land restaurant. Also the freshly caught halibut in lobster broth, tender and moist, so good. The best desserts by far was the Creme Brûlée & Apple Pie. Don’t even bother with the Cherries Jubilee, it was just plain awful. Overall dining rating 9/10 Drink Package: We at first decided not to purchase the drink package on this cruise as it was costly and when pre-purchasing online each person in a cabin has to purchase the package which would of been about $950 USD for both of us for the seven nights. Since I hardly drink we felt this would not of been worth it for this cruise. Also the drink package option included in the fare price package that was offered worked out to be more expensive than purchasing it separately which seemed a little odd to me. We instead opted to gift ourselves a $450 onboard credit to cover the majority of our alcoholic beverages. You can pre-purchase this online which is a great way to budget your spending and not get hit with such a huge bill after cruising. Once onboard staff are always trying to get you to purchase dining, drink & other packages. We told the waiter trying to sell packages that we didn’t purchase the drink package as we had to buy two and I’m not an avid drinker so it’s not worth it for us. He told us that yes online you have to buy for each adult in the cabin, but when on the ship you only need to buy for one! WHAT?? My husband immediately purchased the package for himself which was well worth it for him. Entertainment: Excellent from the comedy to the shows we enjoyed them all, some a lot more than others. We were lucky enough to see Jeffery Allen performing as Elton John. Incredible! This was by far my absolute favorite and the comedy on board made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt. 9/10 Rating Activities: Lots going on all over the ship from music, dancing, & mini performances by Celebrities onboard dance crew. Some things I wanted to do overlapped others. I really enjoyed the trivia in the observation lounge. Being an Aqua class guest also gave us privileges to use the Persian Gardens for free. The Roman beds (warm tiled beds) were a very relaxing way to spend a few hours in peace and quiet. You also had access to use the sauna and steam room. 10/10 rating Excursions: Didn’t do any booked excursions this trip. Juneau & Ketchikan have stores right off the peer so walking is easy. Go to an onboard seminar for information on the port and receive coupons for shopping and free gifts. If you need help going up the steep, long peer they will assist you. If you like to shop, go to Creek Street while in Ketchikan. It’s a lovely walk over wooden bridges and creeks with cute touristy shops in charming old buildings. Choose to shop or see Mendenhall Glacier while in Juneau or take a tour of the Alaskan Brewery. Shore excursions can be booked with many different tour operators. Just make sure they have a ‘back to ship on time’ guarantee. When booking third party excursions be very aware of the time the ship gets into port. This doesn’t mean you can get off at that time. It can take up to approximately 2 hrs from when a ship docks to when your able to disembark. Not to mention the crowds of other people also trying to disembark, so leave time for this. Service -Blu- Staff that served us here were exceptional! A big thank you to Dan, Maria Hugo & “Z” ( can’t recall his full name). Their personalized service goes beyond words. No matter where they were working on the ship they always spotted us and came over to assist since we were traveling with 2 people with slight disabilities. I was pushing my friend in his wheelchair to the cafeteria for lunch and never had to look for someone to help us carry plates etc., staff appeared from nowhere and insisted to help us each time without me ever asking. Another time our friend got lost in the cafeteria (yes it’s that large) and Maria (waitstaff at Blu) recognized her, helped her with her plate. Searched and found us and brought her over. So far the best service I’ve experienced on a cruise. Are there some areas on board that I felt service was lacking? Absolutely...The Sunset Bar. Two guys, rude to guests and each other. Arguing in front of us, one demanding an apology from the other. Time to get off the ship guys! -Pushing sales- You’re bombarded when you get onboard. They want you to purchase drink, dining & spa packages etc. I get it, sales are important to most business’ small & large, but it’s really overkill. We would just kindly say no thanks. Cruise director- Lauren was amazing...that’s one hard working lady. She was seen everywhere and always seemed to invest time interacting with passengers. On HAL cruise last fall we only saw our cruise director once, I was actually starting to think maybe there’s not even one on board and then there he was standing by the piano, having a drink wondering when the day was going to end. I’m not going to take away from those who went above and beyond in service, so I’m rating Service 10/10 Overall: Celebrity seems to have the right balance with things to do, dining and entertainment. No wonder it appeals to age groups in their late 20’s and up. If your looking for an elegant, upscale cruise that’s not too ostentatious then Celebrity’s for you. We love everything from the size, beauty and cleanliness of the ships, to the quality of food and service we receive. Read Less

Have cruised with NCL and Holland-America for comparison. ONBOARD NATURALIST: Milos is Excellent. Every lecture he provided was excellent scientifically, with supporting details and entertaining :). Answers questions extremely well, and is one of the most enjoyable people you will meet on a cruise. He is not on every cruise. FOOD: Knew from reviews that Celebrity Eclipse had food quality issues. Dining room (Bluemoon) was good to excellent food quality with rare exception. Service was very good. Main buffet (Oceanview Cafe) was very disappointing. Consistently over cooked and dry meat, but sometimes done well on a few dishes. Cakes: not one was worth eating at the buffet. Everyone I tried (then frankly gave up after about 10 tries over several days) was either extremely bland or just poor flavors. Colorful, but not worth eating. Cafe served creme brulee that was awful. Bluemoon dining creme brule was excellent. Cafe cheese cake was awful. Bluemoon dining cheese cake was excellent. Cafe salad vegetables were often either unripe of going bad. Pizzas are mediocre. Pasta is an embarrassment. Every red or meat pasta sauce was literally SOUP, not sauce, with very weak flavoring. Cafe breads were consistently dry and hard (left out too long). Donuts were worse I've ever tasted -- old and tough. Breakfast food quality was better in the cafe than lunch or dinners, but again, waffles were dry. Pancakes were better. Meats were often dry. Muesli cereal was very good. Stick to Bluemoon dining as much as possible. SERVICE: Consistently very good service with rare exception. Wait times often too long in guest services, but dining and food table service was great, and maid service as well. ENTERTAINMENT: Not Terrible, Not Great. Some better than others, and some by personal preference. Very little to do on the days at sea except Milos' lectures. In Alaska, you can find many tours and excursions other than at the exaggerated priced ones of cruise ships. We rented cars often and made our own way at our own speed to the tours and hikes we desired, Check with each city in advance of your cruise for good public transit options of rentals and local suggestions. Most the rental cars will pick you up or have a location close to the ports. Locals informed us that most of the excursions are really not very good. We enjoyed Bald Eagles in every city on our own. Multiple eagles in most cities flying all around the city to enjoy, often right near the ship. Unless the salmon are running, rare to find bears unless in caged enclosures. MANDATORY GRATUITY: Celebrity, to their credit, allows you to decline the auto gratuity/tips ($14.50 USD per person per day) once onboard and tip your service help directly. Mandatory Gratuity is simply a fraud to hide the true costs of the cruise. Tipping is not a universal practice worldwide, so pay your staff a full honest wage, Celebrity and other Cruise Lines. Then tipping is as it should be as an add-on incentive reward for outstanding service, not for just showing up to work. Read Less

Review of Celebrity Eclipse We tried out the Eclipse on its ten day journey from Hawaii to Vancouver. We usually cruise on Princess so it was inevitable that we tended to compare the two. The Eclipse is a very elegant ship but we found that some of the venues were a bit sterile feeling, in particular the main dining room and the Quasar lounge. The main dining room is far too crowded, too many tables and strangely uncomfortable tub like chairs. The buffet area however was wonderful, spacious food stations with lots of access room between, definately superior to the Lido area on Princess ships. The main theatre is well laid out and quite comfortable. Our outside cabin was lovely but the bathroom is poorly designed with very limited counter space and strange tiny drawers and cabinets. They do have sliding doors for the shower which is just brilliant. No shower wand which would be preferable. Buffet food was excellent, lots of choices but finding a table was often difficult and line ups for the food were long. We were very disappointed in the dining room fare. Poor choices and variable quality food as well as disorganized service. Princess offers a far better dining experience. We did not use any of the specialty dining rooms even though they were very aggressively promoted. A major negative for us was the coffee. Very poor in the buffet and dining areas and the specialty coffee offered in the Cafe was very overpriced (5$ compared with Princess' $2.75). We purchased Starbucks instant in Honolulu and used that during the cruise. We have yet to see any cruise line that can compare favourably with Princess' International Cafe. Entertainment was very good, perhaps the best we have experienced. The singers and dancers were very talented and gave excellent performances. Shops were nothing special, overpriced and limited selection, however we don't patronize cruise ship shops anymore. Staff were friendly and efficient in most areas. Our cabin steward was wonderful, shout out to Marco! All in all a good, not excellent cruise and Princess will remain our go to cruise line. Read Less

On this cruise, Celebrity got the formula exactly right. Great ports, great food, great accommodations, excellent service and spectacular entertainment! What more could you ask for! This was by far the best cruise we’ve ever taken. We’ve sailed with Royal Caribbean, Princess and Celebrity in the past and although each cruise has it’s positive and negative points, we’ve found Celebrity to be the best. CHECK IN: We read all the negative reviews about check in and were concerned. There was no need to be. Celebrity was extremely well organized on this cruise and check-in was a breeze. We received email confirmations about staggered check in times. Each deck was assigned a specific check in time, starting from the top deck downward, and the lines moved quickly. DINING: Overall, meals on board were of good quality. Concierge Class were given a delicious lunch in the main dining room on embarkation day. Although we were aware of this, we were not given the time of the lunch until we had checked in. Saved us from braving the masses at the Oceanview Cafe on embarkation day. We avoided eating at Oceanview mainly for that reason. We chose instead to eat all our meals (including breakfast) in either the main dining room or the specialty restaurants. The Main dining room offered a good variety of choices and service was also good. We tried all the specialty restaurants and the quality, menu choices and service were all superb. They were well worth the additional cost. ENTERTAINMENT: Again, don’t believe all the negative reviews you’ve read. On this particular Celebrity ship, entertainment was superb. The shows each night in the theatre were spectacular. The best we’ve ever experienced on any cruise. The cruise director Giuseppe was young, energetic and had a great sense of humor. His ability to engage the crowd, as well as make things fun and light hearted, are unmatched. He was by far the best cruise director we’ve had on any cruise we’ve taken. EXCURSIONS: Overall, the choice and quality of excursions were disappointing and pricing steep. Better communication, directions and signage would be helpful. CLEANLINESS: Overall good, but could use some improvement. Tables in common areas were obviously not wiped down regularly. Rings and stains from drinks and food were still visible. In addition, young Captain Leo was the most visible and personable of all the Captains on past cruises we’ve taken. It was really nice to see him and the rest of his team engaging and interacting with other passengers. All in all, it was a wonderful cruise and we would definitely recommend and sail with Celebrity again. Read Less

We were traveling with friends and my friend found the cruise. We had traveled on Celebrity before so we decided to go. We were concerned about the number of sea days but that was never a problem. There was plenty to do onboard. The staff was excellent from our room steward, Pablo, to the servers in the dining room and specialty restaurants. The entertainment was the best of any cruise we have taken. We love the live music and the shows. The ship’s public areas were spotless. The only problem we encountered was disembarking at ports. The wait was ridiculous with long lines waiting in hot corridors. There also was too little help for handicapped people getting on buses. Overall it was a great time. I would recommend it wholeheartedly. The food was very good especially in Murano’s specialty restaurant. Quisine was different and the food better than expected. It is more of a novelty restaurant. It was our third holiday with the celebrity. We chose it because of the destination and time of the year. Overall we had a nice time. But still it could be improved by better intertainment. It was good, but too American. Not enough British music. In the dining room food is not consistent. Some days very good and some completely rubbish. Not enough fresh fruit variety. We prebooked select any time dining on line long in advance but we’re moved to second seating dinner without even asking or talking to us, which I thought was very rude. Can’t comment on enrichment activities as I don’t participated in any. The dancing classes were too early in the morning for the sea day and there wasn’t any other activities available. Cabin and the crew were very good. Excursions were not very good as consisted from parts that shouldn’t been put together and for that reason there was to much time just spent on the bus. Read Less

The food was excellant in Blu restaurant and the staff were brilliant. We also really enjoyed eating in Quisne and Marano. Apart from the food, the highlight of the cruise was the evening entertainment. We went to the show every night as the standard was so high. W particuarly enjoyed the live music, especially Cardinals band. The ship itself was amazing and had every thing we needed and more. We loved having plenty of choice each day of where to sit and relax and never had a problem getting a sun lounger, which were very comfortable. This was our first cruise ever and if we were going to go on another one,it would definetly be with Celebrity Cruises. Thannks for the special memories xx Read Less

We have cruised on Celebrity for more than 10 years. The crew is second to none. This time it seemed way more crowded, with a rushed itinerary, and the cruise director was to over the top. His daily announcements were almost 15 minutes long, the on board entertainment was OK most nights, the best was the live music in the smaller lounges. The main dinning room is FANTASTIC. The cabins and verandas are very nice. Celebrity does have the embarkation and disembarkation down to a science, works very well. While Celebrity’s cruise prices seem to continue to increase, in addition to these increases, In my opinion Celebrity is trying to identify ways to add fees and charges of all types. In port shuttle buses, that used to be included, now there is a charge. Up-charges on drink packages like at the martini bar, 3 bucks more for a larger martini, really why not just get two smaller ones. And everyone of these up-charge slips provide a line for an additional tip. And specialty restaurant are only a fare deal on the first day of the cruise when they are discounted by 30%. In port excursions, in the daily flyer, Celebrity creates the impression the only Hop on Hop off bus is available only at guest relations, all one need do is get off the ship and you can find the same hop on hop off bus at a lower price than Celebrity. So after 10 years of loyalty, i think for our next cruise vacation, we may need to shop around. Read Less

We sailed from Amsterdamin in June and the itinerary was one of the most interesting we have done. This is our 5th cruise on Celebrity and our 14th cruise overall. As usual, the ship, the crew and the food and entertainment were all excellent. We were part of a large group and our travel agent had arranged for private tours in all ports except for Germany and Holland. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience on our tours. While the two full tour days in St. Petersburg were pricey, they included lunch on both days and were well worth the expense. Our tour guide, Elena, of Baltic City Breaks was our guide for the two days we spent in Russia. She was absolutely outstanding. In addition, Elena helped arrange for the other private tours in our other ports of call with the exception of Amsterdam where we spent two extra days after the cruise touring on our own. All the guides were exceptional and spoke excellent English. Our one negative experience on this cruise was one I had never experienced before in any of our previous cruises. Hopefully it was only with the individual who dealt with me and not a general approach by Celebrity. As is our usual practice, we do not participate in automatic gratuities, preferring always to provide the recommended tip directly to the crew member who made our cruise experience a great one - our room attendant, our wait staff in the dining room, bar servers and any others who we feel went above and beyond. When I went to Guest Relations to have the automatic gratuities removed from our account, I was asked to sign a book that recorded our cabin number - I have never had that happen before. In addition, to my surprise, two days before disembarkation we received envelopes in our cabin addressed to us with identified crew members who we should be tipping and the amount. Accompanying the envelopes was a card from the guest relations representative who I had dealt with. To say I was annoyed and taken aback at the arrogance of this is an understatement and left a very bad impression of how Celebrity chooses to treat their passengers who do not wish to adhere to their enforcement of gratuities. Since most of our friends had chosen to have their gratuities covered as their perk for this cruise, they did not have this “reminder” given to them. Gratuities are by our understanding, a means of showing appreciation and thanks for exceptional services. We have no problem with doing so and do it often but we were offended by the approach by this particular guest relations representative which unfortunately tainted our impression of an otherwise great cruise. We enjoyed our 1st cruise with Celebrity cruise and wanted to visit Russia for our 44th Anniversary for 2nd time with Celebrity. We enjoyed the cruise again. He respected our choice and remembers each night our likes and dislikes. This applies to his assistance Kate and Sue our cabin attendant. The entertainment is well thought and to accommodate variable needs. The quality and choices was very good. The cruise staff are all polite and helpful and ready to help regardless their status. This was a trans Atlantic and it made stops in Ponta Delgado, Waterford, Cork, and Dublin, Ireland. We initially signed up for the following cruise to Ireland, Iceland and Shetlland Islands then decided to give this a try, our first trans Atlantic. It was a great decision. We had a very smooth crossing, way smoother than the follow on cruise. The guest entertainers were outstanding, especially Jane Curry, a singer/comedian. Her show was SRO. The Beyond the Podium speakers were also informative and entertaining. There were so many activities it was hard to decide between them. There was music throughout the ship and it seemed at all times. The CD Eddy Jenkins and the Activities Manager, Giuseppe were hilarious together and made the cruise so much fun. The service in all venues including the Oceanview was very good. Food was very good to excellent. In lieu of an included beverage package perk, we decided to take advantage of a price drop after final payment and upgraded to a Sky Suite. With lots of sea days we really appreciated Michaels Club. I loved their afternoon tea and there was usually live music to accompany it. Manuella the Michaels Club Concierge was so helpful and Neville, our evening bartender was so accommodating. Eddy Jenkins took the usual Celebrity entertainments and enhanced them. For example, the Silent Disco became the Battle of the DJs. There was an evening of ABBA with dancing and a sing along, so much fun. This is by far the best cruise we have taken. With so much entertainment you didn’t even notice the 7 days at sea before we hit land. We liked the atmosphere and the attention of the waiters in Luminae but now know we prefer the more creative dishes in Blu. However, for a 15 night cruise with so many sea days, the extra cabin space and Michaels Club was appreciated. Read Less

An enjoyable 14 day cruise. The ship is very attractive and well maintained. This was our tenth cruise and third on Celebrity. Embarkation was quick and smooth - the Port of Miami seems to do it right! Disembarkation (Easter Sunday) was long delayed due to a shortage of port customs personnel. Our cabin steward was excellent and the Blu restaurant (Aqua Class Stateroom) was a real highlight. The service was excellent and food quite good. The fellow Aqua passengers were enjoyable - we met a number of other couples and looked forward to seeing them again throughout the cruise. We ate in Blu for both breakfast and dinner every day and only ventured into the Ocean Cafe for lunch - always crowded and similar aggressive behaviors we've witnessed on other cruise lines. The main dining room on sea days was nice for lunch. We skipped the specialty restaurants (the up-charge for Qsine was $45 per person) and hard to justify given the quality of Blu. The entertainment was fairly good (the production shows: "Topper" and "Euphoria" were very good). "Rock City" was tired and the music was not well chosen for the singers' voices. In general the volume was too loud (and singers voices tended to be "screechy"). Many other passengers had similar complaints. The solo violinist, Amy Lee, and vocalist, Jane Curry, were exceptional. The string duo, Decameron, were also very good. We listened to them in the Ensemble Lounge before dinner each evening - very talented with an ever changing program. The Corning Glass Works was great - we viewed the demonstrations 6 or 7 days. Unfortunately, Celebrity is ending its relationship with Corning and changing to a "revenue generating" company with passengers attempting their own "glass blowing". We contracted for 4 of the ship's excursions - three "Highlights" tours of Barbados, St. Lucia and Antiqua and a "Sail and Snorkel" on Aruba. All 4 were a miss. Most of the 3 to 3.5 hours on the 3 land tours were spent traveling on bumpy, twisty island roads with two - 10 minute stops to view the sights. A real waste of time (and money). The bus broke down on Barbados and one of the passengers vomited on the Antigua bus (it was that rough of a ride). The Aruba "Sail and Snorkel" was also unfortunately a miss - nothing to see and a long catamaran ride to the snorkel location. We chose our own excursion on Bonaire ("BonaireVistaTours" which was recommended by TripAdvisor) - about 40% the price of similar Celebrity excursions and much better quality. The health and fitness gym was nice - we both used it on 7 of the 14 days. Nice equipment and very well maintained. Read Less

We went back to Celebrity from last 2 cruises with RCL. Last cruise on Celebrity was Equionox in 2015 things change. Recently on RCL Anthem and Grandeur. Celebrity has better food but service on Grandeur was better. Lack of Caribbean music on Eclipse. Bands were decent but very repetitive songs. Mostly current but no cruise feeling. Activities were lacking. Age of passengers were elderly. We might give cruising a break. Elite lounge food offered was poor. Often waived off waiters. Declining benefits. We usually enjoyed the snacks. Drink selection is limited. Dancing by pool rare. When offered well attended. Mention that to cruise director and staff got the brush off. MDR repetitive menu. Some good meals. Some actually left me hungry. Waitstaff excellent. Miss Yvonne and Paul were excellent. Room steward saw him 3 Times in 14 night cruise. Great room. No towel animals. Tidy room. Gym sales pitch city. Charge for Zumba and yoga. Avoid it and walk out side. Did my own yoga on lawn. Captain Leo great. Activities staff great but not enough activities. So sad Christine was excellent with pool side line dancing but only offered 3 Times . Many times I felt like I could not wait to get off ship. Never felt this way before. Limited activities and declining quality has my wife and I looking into other vacation options. Sadly I feel cruise focus is more on drinking packages. How many enjoy fat loud guys drunk by the pool. Alcohol impairment is a real problem. Wishing for a sobering mirror for these folks. Looking like a local bar at sea. Pathetic. Read Less

We chose this to return to Bonaire. Also, because it was Celebrity. The plus was our first trip to Curacao. What a beautiful place. The ship was very clean. Dining was very good Everywhere Entertainment was top notch. Celebrity has so upped their game. We have been on Celebrity 13 times and many were two weeks. We have traveled with them for 23 years and we see how hard they have worked on entertainment. I felt the cruise director was excellent Service was exceptional. The staff never runs out of smiles and their willingness to help It was the best embarcation ever. We were off 30 minutes earlier then predicted It was exciting seeing the captain and cruise director as we exited Certainly made it more personal Our return to Bonair was great. The clear water and visible fish along the shore is exciting I would return there again Thank you for a wonderful cruise. Read Less

Live music was superb. Orchestra outstanding in quality and played almost every day, often multiple times and in different venues. Most of guest entertainers were excellent. Production shows not to everyone's taste in music but cast of singers and dancers one of the best I've ever seen on a cruise ship. Visibility and involvement of officers outstanding (Captain Leo, Hotel Director Andrea, Cruise Director Eddy, Activities Director Giuseppe). Food excellent, especially specialty restaurants. Qsine had the friendliest service and great variety. Murano very sophisticated, service more restrained but superb food and presentation. Food in Tuscan Grill good, but a bit below the other two. Extra time in Curacao a big plus. We love the ABC islands. Cabin smallish but adequate, but could use more drawer space. Cabin attendants superb; immaculate cleaning twice daily. Bar service and choices in Elite lounge: more limited hours and beverage choices than the comparable Diamond Lounge on RCCL. Loyalty host Dave Perrien extremely friendly and available. Other nice loyalty perks such as high tea, wine tasting and free bag of laundry. Ship in excellent condition although no "wow" features. I'd definitely go again. Read Less

We wanted to take a cruise with ETA which allows for motorcycle. This was the ship they were using. However, we had taken previous cruise with Celebrity Eclipse and had a wonderful time. Will definitely go again. Service, food, entertainment and the people were all friendly and appeared happy with their jobs. The various venues on the ship provided variety throughout the days and nights. Cabin has plenty of storage. The shower was larger than other cruise ships we have traveled. Plenty of hot water. Getting on and off the ship at the ports was very easy and no long lines. Main dining room service and food was very good with good presentation. The waiters were very attentive and knew exactly what our drink of choice was for dinner. The wine sommenier was amazing. He would remember the wine of choice as well a make perfect recommendations. We will definitely travel with Celebrity again. Eclipse is great ship....it would depend on the ports but it is a wonderful ship. Read Less

The drier to choose this cruise was the destinations. We still wanted to go to the ABC islands and this cruise had the best itinerary on a cruise line we trust in delivering an experience that would not shortfall of our expectations. It is worth to mention though, that over time there was a decline in the quality of their food but I still would rate it further up than many of the their competitors. On the other had it is worth mentioning that we received great support throughout the ranks, with special effort from everybody involved to organize and support a special dining event for a larger group! - Something not necessaarily supported by all cruise-lines. Organization in the ports was well organized and worked for us nicely. Entertainment contained some production shows that were pretty nice, but if we want to have a great entertainment experience we prefer the Oasis class of ships from RCCL. Read Less

Jose, our cabin steward for 1505, was generous, pleasant, and extremely good at keeping our cabin clean and organized! Our Blu restaurant waiters, Tyrone and Ljuben, made our evening meals very special and were a good team. Tyrone was a consummate professional, always very concerned with our well-being and satisfaction. Ljuben was also professional, but showed us a wonderful sense of humor, and remembered our preferences...in my case, Creme Brullee. I had doubts about whether I would like Blu, which was for the Aqua class passengers, and had a reputation for “healthier” food. Well, the food was tasty, and I still gained weight! They put my doubts to rest! Gilly and the Girl were magical....perhaps the best non-main theater act I have seen in more than 100 days of cruising! Michael Redden was also wonderful, and the James Taylor show they performed together was a highlight! We also greatly enjoyed the four talks given by Eddie, the cruise director, as they were amusing and informative. The Eclipse orchestra was excellent, but the saxaphone player was a standout! We weren’t particularly happy with the production shows, other than the closing show, Euphoria, which was wonderful! We don’t fault the talented cast, but all three earlier shows were...I don’t know..avant garde? We didn’t really get them, and we weren’t alone. My suspicion is that it is an age issue. We are in our mid-sixties, and I assume the corporate entertainment designers are attempting to appeal to a younger market. The relaxation room, close to our cabin was a wonderful, and often private, delight! The Solarium was such a pleasant place! I enjoy a late night meal, and was a bit disappointed at being limited to pasta. Actually, though, the late night food selection and the baffling production shows were my only complaints, and I am sure both of those things are decided at a corporate level. Everyone who serves, entertains, or manages on this ship did an amazing job! We came away feeling very pampered, and looking forward to another cruise! Read Less

This cruise was made by the entertainment . We had Jayne Curry , Just John andPaul , Jessie Hamilton , Flashback four and a few more great artists . Gilly and the girl were fab too. The ED was Eddie Jenkins and he was helped by Guiseppe, Lauren and Brittany who all did a great job with extra games and quizzes . The cabin was always clean as was the rest of the ship. We only ate in the MDR one night as the food in the buffet was so good and it fitted in with our timing better. We did lunch in the dining room a lot . We had a lovely smooth crossing over the Atlantic . Overall we had a ball on this cruise and everyone was so pleasant . If you think there are too many sea days on a transatlantic cruise we were sad to see them end as we really had a great time doing all the different activities . I brought six books and was worried it wasn't enough , I only got two read . The ports of call were a treat Boston , New York , Bermuda and Bahamas. In Boston we did the HoHo bus , we purchased our tickets just outside the dock. We did the same in NY and purchased show tickets at the booth in TimesSquare . Bermuda and Bahamas we were on arranged tours through cruise critic which worked out really well. Read Less

We chose this cruise after much thought as being the best way to experience our first ever cruising venture - and I think we got it right. We wanted some time at sea to get to know what the ship life aspect was like - with some shore stops to test the water there. I felt the sea days were the best and some shore stops were not my thing. Boston, and New York were great - Bermuda needed a week and Nassau was just chaos. We went concierge, as that seemed to be a mid range experience from which we could give it a fair trial and could then go cheaper or pricier dependent on what we found. Concierge was good but the room ‘tasties’ were a waste of time and my wife said the ‘upgraded’ toiletries were poor quality. Other than that there was nothing that I really felt let down about and much I was impressed with. I should start with the staff who, with the exception of one bartender that was a pain in the neck, were close to perfect. They all seemed to know their stuff and worked very hard to give us the best time. The entertainment was also very good and the Jayne Curry influence on others was visible and appreciated. I should also like to point out the overall friendliness and helpfulness of other passengers. Negative experiences were very rare and the vast majority were pleasant to a surprising degree. I never thought that bumping into people would be so enjoyable. I must also say a special thank you to George and Carley who we were seated next to by chance on the concierge lunch at departure. We then found out that we were in next-door cabins and they kindly invited us to join them at their dinner table. This led to a lovely non intrusive friendship from which we learnt so much. This was our first cruise - we have booked two more already - need I say anymore? Read Less

Late booking secured excellent deal with adjacent balcony cabins and inclusive drinks package for 4 adults. A beautiful Ship in excellent condition. The most visible and charismatic Captain we have ever had on 10 cruises - his charm and hospitality permeated through all the officers and the entire crew. The fastest embarkation and disembarkation we have ever experienced - superbly organised. Excellent wheel-chair assistance from car to lounge on ship on departure and the reverse on arrival. Excellent clean cabin with attentive room steward and cleaner, Plenty of quiet space around the ship and excellent on-board facilities. Great entertainment and shows. Singers, Dancers, Juggler, Comedian, and other shows - plenty of space in theatre with no queues, Wonderful food well served, huge choice, lovely main dining room. Despite 2800 passengers - it never felt crowded. One small niggle was the Lisbon City Tour by coach organised through Celebrity - a very poor guide, the route was not clearly described and the coach did not stop at the main sights in Lisbon. We should have arranged our own tour by taxi. The city looked wonderful. Read Less

I work in social work which is stressful and booked this cruise after moving to Wales as both husband and myself needed a break after a stressful eighteen months refurbishing house and his chainsaw accident. This cruise was likely to be the last we will all share together, so we wanted something special. Having sailed with Celebrity previously we were eager to return to "Eclipse" for her trip to the Western Med in September 17. Unfortunately, it did not match my expectations. As the title of my review suggests, standards have definitely slipped since our last cruise with Celebrity in key areas, giving the impression that the company bottom line is more important than keeping its passengers happy. The cabin was clean and well-kept by the stewards as big as anything we've had before with the balcony. However, who designed the hand wash basin with that tap directly over the middle of the sink? You could not wash your face without banging your head on the tap. Not really any issues with soot from the ships funnels, other than a few minor specks. Throughout the ship very annoying, repetitive, voiceless music was heard. We were ashore for less than 16% of the total length of the Cruise, so a lot of the time is spent on deck, "sardined" on sunbeds, or learning to line dance. Security staff were quite engaging and welcoming however - even to the point of addressing passengers by name and welcoming them "home", nice touch. Tour guide on Lanzarote tour arrogant and unhelpful in reference to photo of camel ride - refused to take sterling so lost out on memento having not been advised before that this may be needed to purchase photo. Gibraltar – just Britain with heat! I would give the nightly entertainment a grade of C. The ship’s house band The Spitfires (they also went by another name which I am unable to mention on this forum) were undoubtedly the WORST set of musicians I have ever heard on any cruise ship I have sailed on. They somehow got progressively worse over the 14 days. Once a family we met had to leave poolside at 3.00pm, get off the ship and walk around Lisbon to avoid hearing them! As well as being terrible musicians, their general demeanour and appearance was appalling. The lead singer insisted on wearing a less than flattering toweling dress while singing poolside, which looked as if she just nicked a few of the many towels available poolside and wrapped herself in them. I did like one of the comedians. I think Cee Cee was his name. Although his R rated show should have been an X. I couldn't imagine taking my 18 year old daughter in there. The crockery in the Ocean View buffet is very heavy indeed. You may also be unlucky enough to get a plate that has a protruding ridge on the underside causing your plate to spin every time you try to cut your food. The dining chairs are extremely heavy and virtually impossible to position near to the table without some help from the waiters who I fear will suffer with back problems later! Choice of meals poor throughout the 14 days and root vegetables over this period were limited to carrots potatoes with beans as an addition. Chef must have left turnip, swede, parsnip, beetroot, red and green cabbage, mange tout at Southampton. We couldn't fail to notice that the clientele was different from our previous Celebrity cruises: more tattoos and football shirts. Despite the fantastic ship, it often felt like Butlins-on-the-high-seas, but at fancy prices. Dress rules were not enforced within the for-fee restaurants, particularly Murano, where we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. I do not expect to see a man dressed like a UK coach driver sitting in my vicinity when I have made the effort to dress appropriately. Wives please take note: if you make the effort to wear a nice dress, have your hair and nails done, ensure your partner does not look like he is dressed for a visit to a garden centre. And are football shirts really smart casual? I declined the automatic gratuities before sailing planning to do my own. It made no difference. The gratuities were added to my account anyway. A disappointing cruise, and food for thought about booking with Celebrity in the future, particularly if they can't make up their minds about the "formal" evenings: it's quite simple: black tie or not - there is no middle ground. The tag Celebrity use of "Modern Luxury" is sadly no longer the case! Read Less

What can I say, just outstanding. The staff were friendly and worked so hard and a special mention of our waiter and assistant waiter on table 219, Jason and Pande and Aleks the Sommelier. Didn't see much of our cabin steward but when we did see him he was lovely and kept the room immaculate. The food was exceptional ,one comment though that I think it needs to have more variety on it as it didn't change that much, still had Filet and Chateau Briand and my husband loved the escargots. The ship was beautiful as we expected, could do with some more lifts as they were extremely busy at certain periods of the trip but that was no big deal. Eddie the entertainment director was fabulous as was our Captain "the voice from above", certainly was very visible and mixed with all the passengers which makes a change. The shows were excellent as were the individual acts that came on, Jane Curry was terrific as were the McDonald brothers. The tours were good although the storm in Rome put a slight dampener on things but that's not Celebrity's fault. My husband and myself loved everything about the cruise that whilst on board we booked the next one, roll on September 23rd next year. Read Less
