Celebrity Edge is a great ship and it put our faith back into cruising after a disastrous cruise on Cunard's QM2 last year which was so old fashioned, dirty and the food disgusting that we pledged never to go on a cruise again, however, we saw The Edge and decided to give it a go and it was one of the best decisions we made. It has everything you want on a cruise: fabulous food; friendly and excellent service; sparklingly clean and hygienic; impressive and packed itinerary. If you're a first time cruiser you'll love it but probably be disappointed in other ships afterwards! Things to think about: we considered upgrading to concierge class but that would have doubled the gratuities. Why go on a huge ship and pay extra to keep separated in a small exclusive area at the front, if you don't like the 'Hoi Polloi' go on a smaller more exclusive ship. Forget the organised shore excursion , you could have got off the ship in at least 6 of the ports we stopped at and easily explored on your own. Get a Premium drinks package for a hassle free cruise experience, who wants to spend the cruise adding up the cost of drinks - prices are high AND theres always the 18% or 20% service charge Reduce the packing, you really DO NOT need those evening dresses and suits, the Edge has Evening Chic i.e. cocktail party attire , men take a smart linen suit or similar and women a cocktail dress or equivalent if you want to dress up. If you have restricted mobility remember that this is a massive ship and you can do a lot of walking to and from decks plus the ports we visited were not at all easy for wheelchair access. Pre-cruise we chose Select Dining as there were only 2 of you and it really worked for us. No fixed time or table, you choose when and where to eat in the 4 'free' restaurants between 5.30pm-9.30pm, simply ask the Maitre D' for a table ( you can reserve one but we just went were we fancied that night), you may have to wait for a table for 2 but if it's too busy then just go to another restaurant. We also ate in the Oceanview cafe 2 nights and wish we eaten there more often as it was superb. WHAT REALLY IMPRESSED US. The Silent Disco was THE best thing we've ever done on a cruise- just do it, it's a disco but not as you know it!!! Embarkation and disembarkation was top notch, easy and very speedy. Embrace the digital world (even we managed out at 59 yrs) get the App on your phone, check in online, sort out your sea pass photo, etc all before you leave home. Food was superb in all areas and we loved 4 main dining rooms but missed building up a rapport with staff. Don't waste your money eating in specialty restaurants (unless you're wanting to boast about it to others or are bored quickly and need the amusement ) the service and food in the 'free' restaurants are fantastic. Service was excellent throughout the ship and good to see officers mingling with passengers and eating in the restaurants. Infinite balcony stateroom was fabulous and the bathroom the best ever, so well designed and spacious. Plenty of cupboard and storage space (check the walls carefully, we didn't realise there was storage behind the curved bit until day 9!) but doors were difficult to open so proper handles would help to open them more easily. Cleanliness, as always Celebrity keep everything clean and well maintained. Plenty of people cleaning up constantly and enforcing hand hygiene at restaurants. NOT SO IMPRESSED BY. The daily programme was changed (printed and digital) without us knowing and we missed things because they were rescheduled without notification. Dress code wasn’t specified anywhere so was a mystery to us and we never realised it was evening chic ( plus no one dressed up) till after the evening! Eden was lovely area but wasted and underused, we were very disappointed in the bar , there was no drinks list and we were told beers were same as every else but we didn’t know what those were having just arrived. Cocktails were awful and hugely over priced. Make it into a proper mixology bar ( like on the Eclipse - 2013) with quality cocktails and get rid of the new age acrobats. Sad that non suite guests are barred from front of ship. We would have liked a smaller, intimate and quieter bar (with jazz, solo musicians, etc) to sit and relax in in after dinner. The Spa - as usual laughably expensive. Read Less

Booked this cruse almost a year in advance ( great itinerary that caught our attention) and were shocked when a few months later prices went up 50%!!! It was our 18th cruise and I've never seen anything like that before.. But I am sure that those who paid pretty big bucks, were not disappointed.. The ship is not small but very easy to navigate. wherever we went, we'd find something new we've never seen before. I am talking about ship's decor, theater reinvented, Eden, Magic Carpet .. and more.. Dining - for the 1st time we did not book any specialty restaurants. Edge has 4 dining rooms and each of them has their own mini menu beside the common for all 4. So we had tried 3 of them and food was great!!! Buffet - no complaints .. aft tea with scones and clotted cream ( and we are not British, but LOVED it). We decided to change our dinner time and didn't even had to tell anyone. All our walk ins were successful, we were accommodated right away. Took couple of excursions - no issues there. Tenders were so modern.. again it was the 1st time when we saw something like that. Entertainment - from singers to theater shows - we enjoyed it so much. This ship actually one of not many where you are getting entertained pretty late. usually after the late show ships are "dead" , this one was booming.. loved silent karaoke. Honestly, I teared up a little leaving the ship.. Highly recommend it to 1st time or experienced cruisers. Read Less

I was disappointed in this cruise, and I don't think I will sail with Celebrity again. The food was nothing special at all; and we didn't think it was any better in the 2 specialty restaurants we tried. The cafe desserts never changed and were less than ordinary. We also didn't find the staff to be very friendly. They rarely smiled or tried to be pleasant it seemed. There were some who were great (and our stateroom guy was great) but in general many were mostly disappointing. They nickel and dime you; and won't even print boarding passes for those that don't have an internet package! They charge for ice cream(for some) at the ice cream place across from the cafe! Entertainment was so so. The computer room guys were not helpful or knowledgeable. Many of the staff were on the their phones! always pulling their phones out of their pockets and looking at them. Not enough activities and not varied enough. Read Less

I enjoyed the people I met on the cruise. I found the service from the staff to have been wonderful. The ship is clean and well maintained. Most of the entertainment was good; however, It wasn't horrible; it was just not great. Food was good, but to get great food, one has to eat in specialty restaurants. Bottled water, soda, and juice is now an extra, and the constant marketing of restaurants, Internet packages, and drink packages is annoying. In the past, Guest Relations would confirm your return flight. Now, unless you have purchased the Internet package, one must pay $34 for an hour of Internet usage to spend the 5-10 minutes it takes to log on to the airline and reconfirm the flight. I find that kind of nickel and diming annoying. Had I been a first-time cruiser, perhaps I would not feel so strongly, as I would not know any better. As for the ports of call, I enjoyed most, but the level of enjoyment was tempered by the crowding in some ports, especially the beautiful Santorini, where tourism is out of control. And despite the crowds in most ports, our tour guides told us that this is "low season" and the the overcrowding that we experienced was nothing compared to what it will be like over the summer. God help those traveling then. Had a good time and will not travel again with Celebrity, I wish I did not feel as though I constantly had to shake the piggy bank every day for what should be just routine service. Read Less

We hadn't planned to book Aqua Class but ended up doing so, made little use of spa but cabin was very nice well looked after by Lester. Restaurant was main benefit and it was excellent, food very good and portions small enough to eat three courses. Front of restaurant team were outstanding and Frederick serving a delight. Somellier Enrique a star and chose great wines for us. Ports / excursions were good and we loved most, as people have said Santorini was beautiful but overun. Entertainment was better than we expected and casino staff good, had a great time with some regulars on blackjack table. Even though ship was quite full we found it easy to find quiet spots if you wanted them. Whether you can justify extra cost just for Blu is difficult but on balance we think so. Loved our first trip on Celebrity and looking at our next. Read Less

Solid Celebrity cruise with clean ship, great food and wonderful staff. I was a bit concerned that the ship might appear worn since it’s close to its refurbishment time, but it still looked nice. I appreciate that little things, such as the art work, is kept current. Our balcony cabin was wonderful due to the expanded space. The cabin itself was clean & everything worked. (See further description under cabin) Loved our steward. Our last Celebrity cruise was on the concierge class and I missed our little appetizer plate in the late afternoon! We were 3 couples traveling together and all of us found activities to our liking. The musical performers around the ship were excellent. The shows in the main showroom were okay. They had some fun & different late night activities in a lounge. One of our group really enjoyed the apple class he took on board. We will book Celebrity again. Read Less

This was my first cruise in a very long time. We spent 2 days in Venice our departure city which unfortunately was unseasonably rainy and very crowded but interesting nonetheless. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly despite the volume of people. The ship was lovely however our Concierge Class cabin which was reasonably spacious was looking a bit tired and we heard the ship was off to be refurbished after our cruise. Concierge Class included some nibble mid-afternoon, most of which we never touched as they were not to our liking and we finally asked for cheese and crackers daily instead which were provided. MMy friend had arranged for us to dine with a couple and their family group (11 of us in total) and although the travel agent knew we were all traveling together and we had all booked through him, somehow the arrangement didn’t happen and everyone was dining separately (apparently tables are assigned when the booking is made and everyone booked individually). The dining room host could not rearrange a table for us at our preferred sitting so we were offered a reserved table in the lower dining room where those who did not have a fixed dining time were seated. This worked out well. We also dined a few times with friends of mine who were also on the cruise and this was not a problem. The selection of food was good and mostly well executed however, as this was a cruise of the Greek Islands, I expected to eat some Greek food on-board and was told by customer service staff when I enquired pre-cruise, that fresh food is purchased from local suppliers, implying local cuisine. Apparently daily Greek specials were offered at lunch while most people were off on shore excursions! Lobster night was disappointing as the lobster tails were tiny. The food in the café where we ate breakfast was good with a large selection of “ethnic” cuisines geared to many tastes however the “Asian” food was limited to Indian. There were a number of places to have a beverage and the Martini Bar was an interesting place with a frozen surface on which to place your drink. Mostly the beverages were excellent and the advice from a wine sommelier each night was most appreciated however the lady who mixed and served our drinks was unable to make a blended margarita, even after 3 tries. We were so busy with shore excursions that we didn’t partake in any entertainment but I did use the spa for a gel manicure (which lasted a long time) and a deep tissue massage which was very good. While these were more expensive than at home, they were well done by competent staff. The service overall was very good. All staff were unfailingly pleasant, friendly and fun and went out of their way to correct anything that was not right. Shore excursions were great, thoroughly enjoyed them however as there were few sailing days, it was an extremely busy cruise. I would like to experience other cruise lines so I’m not sure I’d travel with Celebrity again, particularly after a friend told me they are the “Walmart of cruise lines”! Holland America has been highly recommended to me as well as Viking (for smaller ships). Read Less

It was our third cruise on X and 7th cruise overall. My wife and I in our mid 50s, loved our experience on Constellation. We had no issues with the embarkation and debarkation processes. Loved our stateroom, its location and perks associated with Concierge Class! Excellent and dedicated staff, have provided us with an outstanding service quality! We loved the food in the San Marco Dining Room and Oceanview Cafe. The Cruise Director and his staff welcomed us to participate in activities such as safe archery, bean toss, trivia games, bingo, Minute to win it, Deal or no Deal, Silent Disco, Karaoke/Bandeoke in addition to the traditional evening shows. We really had a good time! We used Celebrity Excursions in Dubrovnik, Chania (Souda) Crete, Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes and Katakolon. All offered comfortable buses, very qualified guides able to explain the history behind the vestiges and for the most part, were very well organized! Santorini with 4 cruise ships in port, was a bit of a let down for us and most of the cruisers we met on our ship: The main reason is the bottle neck created in Fira, requiring all passengers to return to their ship via this single exit « door ». Passengers had to use one of the following 3 options: Cable car ( 30-45 minute chaotic line up,) Descend the 600 steps on the back of a donkey or on foot, on the path used by the donkeys, which was slippery, smelly and involved having to pass directly and unsafely close behind « parked » donkeys. This said, Santorini is and remains a very beautiful island, In short, we enjoyed a beautiful experience and this trip will remain part of our lifetime memories. Read Less

Wonderful cruise with a great itinerary.. The service was incredible and the food was great. Traveled with a group of 14 people. No complaints from anyone. None of us had a bad meal on the cruise. Every crew member that we encountered bent over backwards to make sure we were happy. Loved the ports we visited. Drubrovnik and Santorini were our favorite stops. We used ship excursions in Athens and Santorini. Both excursions were as advertised. On both excursions the guide was very informative and helpful. In Santorini, the only issue was the long line to use the cable car to get back down to the ship. Very crowded due to 4 cruise ships in port. I wish the coach could have taken us back to the port where they picked us up as an option other than the cable car or walking down over 500 steps. Other excursions apparently did that. Our cabin was very clean and the attendant was responsive when we needed him but left us alone when we didn’t. Overall the ship was very clean and comfortable. We went to the outdoor terrace several times and used a free cabana to watch movies. Movies show multiple times per day. Our group dined in the Tuscan grill one night. The food and service was truly fantastic. For a $45 additional charge per person we thought it was a great deal. I didn’t use the fitness facility but the activities on the ship were plentiful and the few that we went to were fun. The “silent disco” was a blast. We also watched a couple of game show like entertainment activities and they were fun. The shows were very good but not all great as compared to other cruises. Live music around the ship was very good. Each day there were musicians and singers performing in various areas. I really enjoyed them. Reading some of the criticism here on the website made me wonder if we were doing the right thing by taking this cruise. I found everything to be great. Sure, if you look hard enough, you can find a rust spot. I think the ship is in great shape. We really like this size of ship and the reviews that I had read criticizing the ship are too harsh. Nothing wrong at all with this ship in my opinion. In our view when the ships get so big and carry 4-5 thousand passengers, the amenities get harder to access. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the fact that because the Constellation is a smaller ship we could begin our cruise from Venice. Boarding was easy and within 30 minutes of arriving at the terminal we were on board. Throughout the cruise we found the staff to be among the most service oriented and friendliest of any of our 34 cruises. The main dining room food was excellent, although it’s obvious they have pared down the menu choices somewhat. We also ate in Sushi on 5 and Qsine and found the food and service in both to be outstanding. We took 2 ship excursions and they were excellent - one in Rhodes and one in Olympia. Tendering was handled very efficiently in Santorini - but the situation with the long wait for the on-shore gondola is ridiculous - not Celebrity’s fault though. At the rest of the ports we took private shore excursions. Entertainment on board was excellent. We enjoyed each of the production shows and the 2 guest musicians; the magician was so-so. We especially enjoyed the “extra” show of Broadway show tunes that the production cast put on on our last sea day. We always found a place to sit and relax. The trivia sessions were pure fun - no fierce competition - just a good time. Bar service was prompt and the drinks were well prepared. Our ocean view stateroom on Deck 2 was room, and our cabin attendant kept it in spotless condition. If there is one thing we would want to change it would be to add another sea day in the middle of the cruise - the pace was pretty grueling if you took advantage of truly seeing each of the ports - and we did. The ship is a little worn, but the crew works hard to keep everything running well. We like the size and layout of the ship - we never felt crowded and getting around was very easy. Read Less

The itinerary was the reason for choosing this cruise. Having sailed on 3 other Solstice class ships, we wanted to sail on Eclipse and were not disappointed! Celebrity has come through again with stupendous service from check-in through disembarkation. This ship was refurbished and it shines. Cleanliness and service is a hallmark. Our cabin was great with an attentive stateroom attendant and our dining experience each night was met with a smiling waiter, assistant waiter and sommelier. We only scheduled one shore excursion with the cruise line due to no other alternative in Zadar, Croatia. All other ports, we scheduled tours through Viator, ItalyTours.EU and Costco. These tours provided a better alternative due to timing, cost, and significantly fewer passengers. Most tours were 8-16 people, much better with logistics. There was never a worry in returning to the port on time. The entertainment seems to improve with each trip. The guest speakers were interesting and provided a good diversion during sea days. The Eclipse orchestra along with the Celebrity singers, dancers, and acrobats were outstanding. Other smaller venues were good as well. The only disappointing venue was the Hollywood Glass Show. Previously under the auspices of Corning, these shows were continual demonstrations of glass creations and ultimately sold for charity. The current show is obviously for revenue. Suggestion: do your homework for shore excursions and book a cruise while onboard, it provides flexibility for future travel and all questions can be answered face to face. Read Less

We chose this cruise line because of the itinerary and that is the only reason, three days in Israel. Three cabins, two generations of cruisers. We have been on lots of cruises, never on Celebrity and never again! Let me start with the positive: big upgraded rooms (we paid for this!) nice staff. Now the negative: we paid to upgrade my parents, we show up at entry, there is no cabin for them and no one seems concerned. I pitched a fit and they found one. They charge for spin and Zumba and yoga classes, a first in my experience. No free Internet --in fact Internet charge was close to $500. Many rooms off limits thruout the cruise for private functions. Unless you drink tap water, coffee (lukewarm) or tea, you pay for ANYTHING you drink. You pay for specialty restaurants. You pay for gelato! Food in dining room and café was unbelievably tasteless even desserts!! Even croissants! No real fridge in rooms. No bottled water.Certain room service items were extra. Ship dirty and smelly Entertainment and activities scant.Forget TV movies and channels, very limited and mostly UK game shows!! Hard sell on everything, in fact, most "activites" were sale shows. 26 such events in ONE DAY. Port lectures were very poor and unreliable, mostly telling you where to shop at their "preferred: shops. It took us three hours to get a rerplacement bathroom light. Towels and sheets are very old and paper thin. Tap water is vile yellowish. Prized for trivia contests were pathetic...sunglass paper cover, small USB stick...?deck of cards Charged $50 for one small sack of laundry. The experience was laughably bad. Avoid at all costs. We chose those cruise because it was going to places that we wanted to visit and also ports we have never been to be. Right from start it was horrific. We arrived at Rome port to find the ship not there. We were told there would be at least a delay of 6 hours due to bad weather. During that wait, which the cruise company were aware of all we were offered was a small bottle of water and a small packet oftuc biscuits but because they run out of them we had to share. There were not enough seats so we had to stand part of the time. Then we got to our state room to find the air conditioning not working which took them 5 attempts before it was put right. We had to wait in the room to explain the problem each time. Eventually they put a new system in which would have been done on the first visit. Then on 5th day toilet didn’t work so they had to put a new system in there. We asked to be put into a different cabin but we were told the cruise was fully booked. Also our cabin was never cleaned when we first got into it. Our hand towels were a disgrace. I have better dish clothes. The food in the restaurant always came cold and selection very poor. The whole of the ship looked as if it needed refurbishing. I have never been on a cruise where they didn’t have the currency of the places we were visiting. They didn’t even have euros. When we were at sea there was nothing to entertain us except if you were interested in the casino or going to an auction to bid for a painting. There were so many issues I could go on and on about it. It was even more of a disappointment as we were on the cruise to celebrate my husbands special birthday. Read Less

Me and my husband plus a group of couples of 11 did the 12-Nights Israel and Mediterranean Cruise aboard Celebrity Constellation from October 30 to November 11, 2018. We are all seasoned cruisers having been cruised for 12 or more times aboard Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Carnival. It’s our first time to cruise with Celebrity. Here are our overall positive and negative comments. Positive Comments: Excellent Wait Staff on the Main Dining on Deck 4 where we had our group nightly dinner. Also most of the morning staff assigned at Oceanview Café on Deck 10 are commendable for their friendliness and quick in responding to our requests. The Hospitality Staff assigned on our decks (Deck 3, 7 and 8) are also friendly and are conscientious workers. One of them managed to memorize our names on the second day of the cruise. The Ultra Violet Party House Band that played at Reflections Lounge (Deck 11) and Rendezvous Lounge (Deck 4) provided excellent music especially catering to those who love disco/ballroom dancing. DJ Carlos is also commendable. Silent Disco was awesome. Negative Comments: I wonder why the staff at Guest Relations (Deck 3) provided different answers to the same question or issue at hand. I don’t normally give up if I wasn’t happy with the answer I received for the question or issue at hand. I noticed that you need to talk to the staff with higher position. For example, in the early morning of November 9 (at sea), I requested for new tags for earlier disembarkation be issued to my group. The first staff I approached at the Guest Relations advised me that she will consult with the team and will contact or leave a message to my stateroom. After a couple of hours, I went back to the Guest Relations desk for an update and this time a different staff but has a position by looking at her uniform. The staff asked me if I was issued the new tags and I said no. Right there and then she printed all the tags for all members of my group. What happens if I didn’t do a follow-up on the matter? Will I be falling in line together with the rest who have issues to be addressed at the last minute? Celebrity has poor security training. One gentleman from my group had a sort of harassment by one of their security staff on Deck 5 (Emporium). This gentleman just paid for his purchases when the security staff approached him suddenly (and rudely) and asked for his Sail Pass. Why would this security staff ask for his Sail Pass upfront? Guests are all scrutinized upon check-in and hence given a valid Sail Pass. When confronted, the security staff went away abruptly without apologizing or gave a reason for his action. We gathered that someone’s husband was missing and my friend was mistakenly identified. More than 24 hours had passed but no apology was issued and so I went to Guest Relations to ask for an update. After a few minutes, another security staff met us only to say that he’s waiting for the perfect time to issue an apology. That was bull. If that was the case, the apology should have been done on that same time and day. Celebrity hires inept staff. One lady in my group had contacted Celebrity a few months before sailing to arrange for distilled water for her CPAP machine. After checking-in, my lady friend went to her stateroom and called Guest Relations for her distilled water. A staff came with an empty water bottle. To cut the long story short, the “distilled water” was delivered to Stateroom 3029 and was used that night. My friend felt something unusual when she used her CPAP and complained to the Guest Relations. Well, what was delivered was distilled water used for batteries! Whoever arranged to fulfill the request was inept. Celebrity should be held responsible if something serious happened to my friend during the cruise. We requested for a special breakfast to be served on the last sea day since we’re aware that there’s a kitchen staff who can cook this breakfast menu. This was set for November 9 at 8:30 am in the main dining room with the maître-d. A couple days before November 9, I requested the maître-d to move the breakfast from 8:30 am to 8:45 am so we can attend the mass officiated daily by the Cruise Chaplain. The maître-d outrightly said NO since 8:45 am is almost closing time for breakfast. Come breakfast on November 9, half of my group were at the dining room at 8:30 am sharp. It was okay even though we didn’t have the same tables that we used nightly. However, to wait for the breakfast to be served way past 9:00 am (about 9:20 am) was unacceptable. It was ridiculous to think that my request to move our breakfast 15 minutes later was not granted! Furthermore, we waited for the service only to find out the rice was uncooked and the “tapa” we requested looked like “beef stroganoff”, the same of which was served at Oceanview Café on Deck 10. Worse, no one approached our tables to offer coffee, juices nor water. It looks like the staff was busy for lunch that day. One last thing re entertainment. The lady that performs with Good Vibes at Rendezvous (Deck 4) didn't look like she's an entertainer with the way she dresses. Lastly, we arrived at 12 noon on embarkation on October 30 at Civitavecchia terminal. However, embarkation was delayed to past 5:00 pm due to weather conditions the previous day. The guests who arrived at that time were offered a bottle of water and a small pack of cookies. Since Celebrity is a big cruise line and their cruises are a bit pricey, the guests should be offered at least decent sandwiches for waiting for more than 4 hours. Since it’s our first time with Celebrity, we will have second thoughts if we will book our future cruises with this cruise line. First impression lasts! Read Less

The installation were very good, good options were also good and the service in the rooms was the best. Our allocated attendee Dewi was the best o ever had in any hotel or cruise. Seat down dinner was also a treat. The food selection was good and our waiters Arman, Linda and Adrian made our stay very enjoyable. Embarkation and disembarkation at every port was straight foward. We stayed on the 2nd deck. No window. Room was comfortable. The spa is also very, the persion garden, massagens and pedicures but you do pay excessively or these services. The worse think for me was the fact that they always chose to leave dock around dinner time and the initial rocking of the ship always made me sick and the service at customer service was not good. Some very rude lady. Not sure how she was selected to be in that post. Everyone i spoke too had a hard time whenever she was the one serving. We were a group of 95 people. There were also very limited activities and shows where sometimes very good most times not worth the time. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to the ports (Rome, Crete, 3 days Israel, Mykonos, Athens , Naples) and because we liked our cruise on the Celebrity Silhouette in January. This was my 15 cruise (Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Carnival, Holland America)and I believe the Constellation is my favorite ship so far. I enjoyed the easy layout and the general ambiance. It is not a party ship and in general I would say that the average age is 50+ and mostly well traveled cruisers but I'm looking to relax on a cruise. My favoite things about this ship: 1) The 3 story bow shaped window at the back of the Marco Polo dining room (fabulous views as we departed the ports) 2) The outside movie theatre. At the back of the ship deck 12 (go to 11th floor then walk upstairs) instead of being at the pool deck. Very nice comfortable lounge furniture. I was surprised with the sun out how well the movie still showed on the screen. 3) Theatre. Very nice size for this size ship, never had a problem finding a seat at either time frame. Nice mixture of entertainment. 4) The table/bar area at the back of the ship just beyond the buffet. Very seldom crowded, quiet place to eat and enjoy a mixture of covered and uncovered seating. 5) Very good ship's excursions and I'm not a great lover of ship's excursions in general but these were exceptional. 6) Many nice quiet nooks inside to sit and read or just converse with friends. We had back to back, 12 day cruises from Barcelona (October 5 and October 17) - first the western Med. and then the eastern Med. - for a total of 24 days. These were our 11th and 12th cruises since we started cruising in 2010. We've had 5 total on Celebrity. We selected the cruises based on the ports and that we had sailed the Eclipse for 14 days in the Caribbean earlier in the year with good experience. Embarkation and disembarkation were very quick and smooth - even better than we have experienced in Miami, which is good. We were in Aqua class for both cruises - SR 1625 for the first cruise (a good cabin) except for the sewage problem several cabins down the hall from us (wet hallway floor and awful smell for a few days). We also noted a sewage smell on the third floor at times. We had SR's 1517 and 1537 the second cruise. Both were less than satisfactory. SR 1517 suffered from an extremely loud band playing in the Sky Lounge two floors above every night - unsure how the noise transmits through two floors but we could hear all the instruments and voices until midnight. We asked Guest Relations several times if the volume could be lowered slightly - but the answer was no !? Not sure why Celebrity takes this position; we spoke with others in the Aqua class dining room (Blu) during the first cruise and they indicated the same problem and were finally moved. My suggestion - do not book a room on the port side on deck 11 in front of the forward elevators. We were finally moved to SR 1537 - much quieter location but the AC would emit a high pitched "squealing noise" during the night. Maintenance tried to fix it over a couple days but we finally had them shut it off for the last 5 days of our cruise (fortunately it was cool enough outside to keep the cabin bearable). The cabin stewards did a fine job on both cruises, although some new linens would be useful (towels and wash clothes have lived a full life!) as well as some new mattresses. Blu, the restaurant for Aqua class continues be a highlight for us (breakfast and dinner are offered). The food is good, service is good and we meet a lot of nice people. Much better than the chaos and rudeness of the general passengers that we experience in the Ocean View cafe at lunch (similar to what we experienced on Carnival when we first started cruising). Entertainment was generally good and we like the production shows on ships in general. We enjoyed the Topper, Amade and Euphoria productions although the band instruments and singing in the main theater would improve with a little less volume - the voices tend to be "screechy" and distorted when reaching for higher notes. I spoke to the A/V technician at the end of one show and explained that it was too loud - he responded "yes, I know"....? Some of our fellow passengers in the Aqua dining room indicated that they stopped attending the shows because of this. Celebrity excursions continue to be of limited value - unless needing to travel a longer distance from the port and there is a concern of returning to the ship on time (Pisa/ Florence and Rome, for example). Compared to reputable onsite tour companies, Celebrity charges at least twice as much for their tours and, most frustratingly, the tour guides inevitably detour to their favorite souvenir shops where they seem to have a vested interest in the business. Several of us expressed our concerns of this to the Shore Excursion desk personnel and we received no response. An example was a 7.5 hour excursion to tour Sorrento and Pompeii. We had 60 minutes in Sorrento and 80 minutes in Pompeii. The rest was spent in gift shops and coffee shops (no provision for lunch other than cheese tasting at a farm which just happened to sell cheese and liquor in the gift shop). The excursions experience tended to be a "hot topic" at the pool some afternoons. The more experienced cruisers indicated that Celebrity understands full well what is happening on the excursions. Lastly, on hygiene. The men's restroom outside the Ocean View Cafe was out of hand soap for the first three days of our first cruise. While there was always an attendant in that restroom on our Spring Caribbean cruise - ensuring that everything was in order (soap, hand towels, mopped floors) - I seldom saw anyone on our first cruise. The silverware and coffee cups in the Ocean View Cafe are often dirty with food particles on the forks/ knives. We usually would pick up 3 or 4 sets of silverware before finding a clean set. We mentioned this to one of the managers several different days and received a quick and insincere thanks. This was never the case in Blu or any of the other 3 specialty restaurants we tried - all was very clean and polished. We dined in 3 specialty restaurants during our 24 days: Murano, Le Petit Chef/Qsine and Tuscan Grille. All were delightful with very good food and great service. A missed opportunity would have been to have guest lecturer(s) speak on the ancient cultures and/ or architecture to which we were exposed on either of our two cruises. Some form of enrichment would have been wonderful. There was a 3 or 4 part lecture across several days on the history and demise of Broadway - perhaps this should have been saved for a New England Fall Leaf cruise. In summary, we're taking a break from Celebrity - we may try the new Holland ship or one of the slightly more upscale lines (Oceania or Viking) in the spring. The Eclipse and and overall attention to guest satisfaction has slipped. Read Less

Let's start with the positives: Cabin clean and attendant excellent Dining room staff terrific attentive and great range of food found no need to eat at additional charges restaurants Pool area no problem in finding seating. Ports of call -great itinery and easy to master on your own Both embarkation and disembarkation simple The negatives: Celebrity appear to be saving money with their shows! There are no Broadway musicals but rather it seems they have written their own story. Eg prince meets princess etc. No plot to follow just random often unknown songs! At sea days had minimal activities. The decision to show the one and only movie at 11 pm was ridiculous. Focus seemed to be on money with charges on many activities . In summary have seen a decline in the cruise experience and will definitely look at other companies for our next trip. As you can see lots of positives but also negatives which need to be addressed. You know, the thing is that we have been floating on this ship for over 3 weeks now.. with the best Captain, the best staff, pretty good food, an nice suite on the 12 th floor. Love it.. but...but.. there is just one big thing that gnaws on me daily. The Guy in charge of movies, sports etc. on tv. So get this, 70% or more of the 3000 cruisers are from US. It is the middle of the football season. They have espn 1 & 2 and... and an extra sports channel. Today is Saturday 3rd of November , and it is no different than last Saturday or the sat. prior. ESPN Showing the Michigan game, ESPN 2 showing Crickett, extra sports channel showing another soccer game from Europe, as if the 3 other European channels is not enough. I complained, and the guy in charge said he just got in from India ( thus, Crickett.?) and said he would work on it. Nothing. Same guy in charge of movies. There are 5 movies available free on demand, and guess what he plays in the movies downstairs, either cartoons or any of the 5 above. So it’s all about us buying old..on demand... movies at 15 bucks that are free at home on HBO. What I’m saying here is that the entertainment via TV is old, stale as the 10 year old tv resolution. Charge me more in my ticket, but serve me something in a new, clear medium. Outside of this, the ship is good. Even our Indian Head Chef. I do question if there really is a Tandoori oven, oh, but I digress..Like it ...as a good upper middle cruise option. Recommendation......get an American in charge of video.. when you do a rehab..buy some modern flat screens. So, childish as we sports fans are, and not that I am glued to the TV more than 6 hours per week, just want to point out this one small, to most, an insignificant side note. However, this is enough to drop the rating. You know, it’s the little things, etc. Like I said, Suite is great, Imade, our cabin steward was meticulous, always on the job. Got us a fan for the suite. It is obvious that all these cruise lines use specialty dining, as added revenue. We pay for cruise but they charge us 100 bucks plus service charge just to have dinner at Murano’s for example. Alcohol is extra. The Master ( infamous Captain) is the best. Gives feeling of safety with a flair of a stand up comic. A French Chef would have been desirable. Not a big fan of pseudo tandoori cooked Indian Cuisine. No garlic nan bread for instance. How about a specialty Indian restaurant? Park the master chef there. Read Less

The itinerary was the main draw for me. That is why I was so disappointed the we missed Rhodes. I realize w a man overboard situation compromises are necessary , but offering a second tour AT NIGHT with nothing opened an limited lighting was not really adequate ( and they threw in a dinner at a Rhodes restaurant for more than the original tour) Obviously it was done to fulfil the obligation of going to Rhodes so guests could not complain and ask for compensation. I was not really that impressed w the main dining room OPUS. The staff r great work very hard the food was good but not great, after I'd heard so many raves for Celebrity's food -disappointed. Only 2- 3 dinners were really notable the rest were adequate or on one night really subpar. The Oceanview cafe often was as good or better. The entertainment was pretty good. The dancers/acrobats are very talented and do an excellent job w the space and choreography they have been given. The singers also shine particularly in a substitute show they put on as the comic that was supposed to perform was stuck on Rhodes. Particularly enjoyed the song selection, not your typical Broadway medley. They need to plan more for alternate activities when a situation occurs that prevents the itinerary being fulfilled. Loved the Persian Garden- took the trip duration pass and used it almost daily The sauna's and cold room and that relaxing heated tile bench. The tours we organized ourselves were at least as good and on 2 occasions ( Pompei and the Acropolis better) Would not go again as I would prefer more in depth exploration next time I go, but got a distinct taste for what would interest me Read Less

We were on the Celebrity Reflection 10 day Italy & Greece Tour.We had a Stateroom with Balcony on the 9th Deck. We found nearly everything about the cruise to be really good. The service, from ALL staff was friendly and courteous. They all give you the impression they ENJOY doing their job. The standard of food & service in the Opus Restaurant was superb. We did not bother eating in any of the Speciality Restaurants (despite the strong sales pressures) The choice and standard of food in the Oceanview Restaurant was brilliant. We ate there everyday (apart from 1) for breakfast & lunch. Bewildering choice of eggs etc. Beware attempting just to have a salad for lunch - you are tempted with Indian, Chinese, English,American,Pizzas etc. All of good quality. Our room was spacious, clean & tidy. We had breakfast served in the room 1 day. Lovely to sit on the balcony eating scrambled eggs.... Shame about the tea being cold. We tried room service for morning tea but the water was always luke warm. Good shows, good variety of artists. Embarkation and disembarkation - well organised. Did not use Celebrity Excursions - preferred to make our own arrangements. Only 1 gripe - we loved sitting on deck watching the ship sail in/out port. Spoilt by the large number of people smoking. Would I use Celebrity again? - definitely! Read Less

Have always wanted to do a cruise to Israel and this one gave us 3 days to explore. took the Celebrity transfer from the airport to the port, bus was old and a bit hot and stuffy. Did not like the port of Civitaveccihia, embarkation was in a tent. Your passport is taken away and given back to you on board when you need it for any excursions you have booked. It is a security requirement by Israel. You are also interviewed individually by security people from Israel at a designated time on board the ship before your stop at Ashdod. Whilst the ship is older it does have a quiet elegance about it and the staff were attentive and polite. Like dining at the Blu restaurant which is only for the use of Aqua Class. The entertainment is a bit stale and predictable. The cabin layout makes it feel larger than other ships we have been on and the balcony is much larger but the noise from above and below does not make it relaxing or enjoyable. Read Less

Chose this primarily because of the time in Israel and Greece. Celebrity have chosen to put an outside movie theatre at the rear of the ship on deck 12 (More of a "terrace than a deck really) which has a negative impact on all the rear- facing 11th floor cabins, especially 1140. Israel was not as good as I had hoped - the crowds are really bad - and we went when things were "quiet". By really bad I mean I have never been that close to anyone with my clothes still on before - and hope never to do so again. Really liked Haifa/Acre though. Pompeii (Naples) was the highlight of the trip for me. Many of the shore excursions seemed "rushed" - we only went on Celebrity excursions, and we were being constantly hassled to move without adequate time to look around or soak in the experience. Entertainment was the typical lackluster/tired experience one expects from Celebrity, the only exception being Jayne Curry who has a powerful voice and stage presence. The itinerary was great - so good we may do it again, but next time I would go on private excursions as did a lot of others on our cruise... Read Less

Our recent trip on Celebrity Constellation from Venice to Rome was a disappointment. The number of people, the noisy activities, the lack of basic information and the continual selling of products produced a less desirable atmosphere. Also, in many ways it was like going to a private club where one did not know the rules. Throughout the cruise we were finding out how things worked or what was or was not available, such as no access to the Reflections lounge in late afternoon unless you were a frequent passenger of Celebrity. I did not feel welcome. The company failed to provide details such as floor plans in each cabin although there was room for a 48-page catalogue of the art work that could be purchased. Basic information about the ports that we visited was not given to passengers although I discovered partway through the cruise that the concierge had some information. And sometimes there were a few maps etc. available if you knew where to look and got them before they ran out. Celebrity advertises its select Dining program as allowing “guests flexibility with evening dining. Guests select to dine between the hours of 6:00-9:30 each evening, much like a regular restaurant”. But the reality is quite different. On the first day we learned that reservations could only be made before 6 pm or after 8:30 pm and only one day in advance, not for the entire cruise. Partway through the cruise we learned that pagers were available so that you could check in earlier than 8:45 pm (the first available evening reservation) and wait to be called (usually 30-45 minutes). As part of the three-dinner specialty restaurant package, we were assigned on the first evening to the Qsine Restaurant, a restaurant that offers a “unique experience”. Here we sat on mismatched chairs and tried to order from icons on a computer tablet. It was not a relaxing environment, especially when the trendy tubes that doubled as spoons spilled melted ice-cream all over our hands. The Tuscan Restaurant was excellent. We selected this cruise because it was one of the few companies offering two days in Malta, a place with a rich history. However, there were no presentations on Malta but there was time for a talk on gemstones. I was told that it was a corporate decision about when to offer “enrichment” talks. Similarly, it was a corporate decision to put the office of the concierge in the library. Hence, the quiet atmosphere was interrupted by phone calls and visits by passengers seeking information from the concierge. In addition, the open staircase in the library led to the computer room where there were classes and other noisy activities such as selling new tablets. The emphasis on the cruise seemed to be one of selling: either new products (tablets, clothes, watches, art work) or packages for activities during the cruise (internet, beverage, dining etc.). For me, travel is an opportunity to experience new places and learn about their history; clearly, my objectives and those of Celebrity are at variance. My lesson – choose another company. Read Less
