Great Itinerary, BUT.....

Review for a Antarctica Cruise on Celebrity Eclipse

First time sailing Celebrity. We wanted to go to Antartica (but not on an expedition ship). The itinerary was great! However, we missed the Falkland (Malvinas) Island stop due to it being a tendered stop and the weather was not great (or so they said). That created a little too many sea days all together. I'll try to sum up this review quickly: POSITIVES: Antartica/penguins/icebergs - ...

Beautiful ship lacking in service.

We went on this cruise because it was a 14 day cruise to Antarctica. We have most often cruised with Holland America, but their cruise to Antarctica is 22 days. We had heard that Celebrity is slightly better than Holland america, but we found the opposite to be true. First the good news: Eclipse is a beautiful ship, very well appointed and maintained. It does miss a promenade deck walk way, but ...

This was our third cruise to the Antarctica and our first ever cruise with Celebrity. It started out badly when a week before our sailing date we received an email from the company advising that due to trouble with one of the ships thrusters and subsequent need to reduce cruising speeds the itinerary had to be changed. Accordingly the stop at Porto Madryn was dropped and the times and schedules ...

Celebrity Infinity to Antarctica - From spectacular to really disappointing

I would like to describe our (my wife and me) cruise experience in some details. I hope it helps people to select, or not, this specific cruise itinerary, cruise ship and even the cruise line for future trips. Just a trip overview, we booked a veranda cabin, deck 8, in the Celebrity Infinity, for the Buenos Aires > Puerto Madryn > Ushuaia > Antartica (Paradise Bay and Elephant Island) > ...

My friend who celebrated her 70th birthday last year has had a lifelong interest in the polar explorers particularly Shackleton. We therefore booked the cruise over 2 years ago and were very excited about the whole event. Unfortunately days before our departure we were advised that the itinerary had been changed (with no choice on our part to change our minds) because of a problem with the ...

We chose this itinerary for it's destination-Antarctica Embarkation was a nightmare- we were Concierge Class & were next in line to check in & were told to go upstairs for check in, when we tried to go "upstairs " we were told oh no you can't go, & they gave us a ticket with the number 1 on it, we were advised by the Celebrity ticket giver to wait for our number to be called. That's when chaos ...

A great itinerary on a non- inspirational ship

The venue .... Antarctica..... lured us to this cruise and it was everything we imagined and more. Embarcation was a near disaster as we waited in Buenos Aires port with hundreds in an un-airconditioned, chaotic facilty, where the computer system failed. No Celebrity staff were present to let us know what was happening. Disembarcation was normal. The ship was well-done with a fair amount of ...

We had a wonderful trip and would recommend it to anyone interested in doing the 'Horn'. Next time though we want to spend more time in Buenos Aires - just a great city. This trip was on our bucket list, and so we booked it well in advance. Big mistake. Ninety days before sailing the prices dropped in nearly half! Our travel agent tried to get us an upgrade, but Celebrity did nor concur. So we ...
