I had sailed on Celebrity Summit to Alaska several years ago and it was excellent. This time, on the aging Solstice, while most of the service was top notch, there were disappointments. First, our luggage was lost on boarding until the next morning. After a few conversations with guest relations the first night, all initiated by us, not once did they call us back with updates, but sent up kits containing 2 tee shirts, and one toothbrush. (More were sent after another request) The next morning after a personal visit to guest relations, it seems unclaimed bags had been reported the night before as sitting outside another cabin. One bag was also misplaced on disembarkation. I was fortunate to have spotted it amid thousands of bags a few rows away. Otherwise, help from the staff was minimal. Our cabin was very nice and exceptionally clean. However, it was showing it's age with small holes in the draperies (allowing the sun to shine through) and wearing on the upholstery. Our cabin was always meticulously cleaned. The food was probably the biggest disappointment. When I sailed previously, there were no dining choices, only the main dining room. We chose not to spend an additional $50-100/day to upgrade and so stayed with the main dining room. While the food was always good, the choices were limiting. Previously, prime rib, filet, lobster, crab, etc. choices were offered almost every night. Not so now. Prime rib one night. Lobster one night. The other steak choices were NY Strip - not so good. Same with dessert choices. They were good, but little variance from night to night. Additionally, we purchased a drink package (excellent choice!) and were able to order most any wine. However, the wine choices on the dinner menu never changed with the entree choices, I just thought that was odd. Food offerings at the buffet were plentiful but most offerings looked better than they tasted. It wasn't terrible, just OK. But, the area was ALWAYS extremely crowded! It was difficult to get close to come offerings (i.e. omelet station) and it was usually difficult to find seating. We did not feel "hounded" for up-sales as I had read others complaints. They were offered but a simple no thanks was always sufficient. We only purchased one shore excursion from the ship (Misty fjords cruise) and it was excellent. All other shore excursions we purchased on our own. So there it is. I don't mean to insinuate the cruise was bad, just not the previous standard I experienced from Celebrity. Read Less

This was my second cruise to Alaska, both on the Solstice, both Inside passage. Traveling into and out of Seattle is always a plus for me. I like the itinerary for the trip. Although I've visited before there is always so much to do. Alaska deserves a balcony room, where you can enjoy the scenery without crowds and looking for a place to sit. There were 6 of us, ages from 25 to 71, and we all found shore excursions to excite and challenge us. I, 71, took the easier excursions Saxman Village, Glacier tender boat and White Pass RR in Skagway. All were very enjoyable and easy for me. The others did canoeing, hiking and whale watching, which from the pictures were real adventures. I enjoy cruising because it does give everyone an opportunity to do "their own thing". We would come together at dinner time talking about our daily adventures. The cabin was on floor 9 concierge level. Plenty of room for 2 people, 3 would still have been comfortable. Our cabin server, Isamia, was pleasant and always available to help. He kept the room clean and tidy. We ate in the main dining room almost every night except one. Our first night on ship, we dined at Murano. The food was delicious. The ambiance was impressionable. Well worth the price but the food in the main dining room was just as good. Our waiter, Anthony, was on top of things always making sure everything was exactly as we wanted. Elizabeth, the wine steward, was excellent. Our glasses were never empty. I drank a Zinfeldal, while the rest of the table drink a red. Upon our arrival the wine was on the table ready to be poured. All the meals in the dining room were well planned and delicious. There was a lot to do on the ship but not enough time to do it all. We did make a couple of the shows, which were very funny. Silent Disco was a favorite. Karaoke left an unforgettable scare on a couple of us. Trivia. How to Demonstrations. And do forget the daily talks, casino and shopping. With only 2 sea days we had a lot to do. Two of our favorite places were the Martini bar and the Sunset bar. The guys at the Martini bar put on a real show. You can tell they enjoy pleasing the audience, people come just to watch their performance. The guys at the Sunset bar hung with us even when the temps were below zero, it felt like that. Always with a smile on their face and joke or two. I did the glassblowing class on board. Everyone should do this. On my last cruise, I watched the demonstration. They made it look easy; it's not. But the young lady who holds the glass is a good teacher. I wish I would have booked 2 classes instead of 1. But there is always a next time. I would do this cruise again. Read Less

This was my second cruise on the Solstice and both times it was just wonderful. The service, food and drinks are just some of the things that made it perfect. I can tell you that every staff members goes out of there way to make sure you are having a good time. I never passed a staff member that did not tell me Hello and just acknowledge my presence. We had six of us traveling together in a group. One night for dinner my sister in law was going to dinner by herself because the rest of us would be getting back late from a shore excursion. All we heard the rest of the trip was how wonderful the dining room staff made her feel so special. She said I never felt like I was dining alone. They even sang to her. Sometimes its just the simple things that make your cruise so special. Our waiter and wine steward learned after the first night what we liked and made sure it was waiting for us when we arrived at dinner. We paddled to the glacier, we hiked in Tongass Forest and we even did the Zodiac cruise in Victoria. It was quite the adventure and everything could not have been better. We would travel on Celebrity again, in fact we booked our next cruise on Celebrity for December since we had such a great time on this one. Read Less

I primarily chose this cruise because of all the perks being offered by my online Travel Agent and we have always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise. Should you choose an Alaskan cruise do yourself a favor and save up for the luxury of a balcony stateroom. It was worth every dime. I spent a great deal of time on my balcony watching the beauty of Alaska go by as we sailed the inland passage and the Endicott arm. From the master of the ship on down we enjoyed extreme customer service, great food and entertainment. We primarily ate in the main dining room, but had a premium dining selection included, so we chose the tuscan grille. It was very good, but if I had to pay the 45 bucks for it, I wouldn't have been all that pleased. Service was excellent, actually superior which made it a memorable experience. Food was good, but just not exceptional. Other than the natural beauty of the state, a huge highlight of the cruise was the naturist speaker Brent Nixon. His presentations were absolutely riveting. The only reason to upgrade to the Aqua Class is for the shorter line at check in. The "suites" are not multi-room, and the view is obstructed by the overhang of the deck above. It is, seriously, an obstructed view. And, since you are on deck 9, you get noises from the pool deck above all night long. Must be why all of the real suites were moved to deck 6. The bathrooms are nowhere near Disney Cruise Line standards as every surface touches you as you shower. The food at the buffet is substandard as it was always cold, even though we were first in line for breakfast. And don't buy the drink package, as there are very few bars that are open to buy a drink. Going to the theater? No bar in that half of the ship. It literally takes a walk through half of the ship to get a drink! Read Less

Alaska has always been in the back of our minds. This cruise had all the must see ports for us and a great price. We lotteried for an upgrade and got it - Rm 8018. The veranda provided such a fantastic view of Hubbard Glacier and our Captain Theo got us close to it, just .6 miles from the calving ice! He happened to walk by our room just after his 360 degree maneuver as I was chatting with a most outstanding steward from GOA, Jose Fernandez who BTW is impeccable at his job and so very personable. I thanked Cptn Theo for this excellent show. He was so pleased that it worked out so well and that the sun came out allowing for crisp photos without zooming. A very nice man and not full of himself happy and grinning ear to ear. Who doesn't love a Captain with an even keel? The activities were also fun and at time were setup for challenging the crew to various games. My wife Laura was ping-pong tourney champ and received the gold (colored) X medal. She beat me and I got Silver. Oh, I must add she bagged 5 of 6 shots in the (cornhole) bean bag toss. One last game mention Giant Scrabble Game played on the floor of the Rendezvous Lounge. Our team of three beat the standing high score by 30%. Good food all around and if you are willing to experiment with some new tastes then you are in for a treat, plus all the standard fare of American comfort food. "I never found any corn tortillas though" said one gentleman at the taco bar. One last find and it was huge!! Bryan James may look like an average kid (30+ yo) but what an amazing talent and stage presence. He took so many requests and knew not just the words to sing but had amazing skill at guitar work that would usually take a band to make enjoyable. You name it and 95% of the songs he did with little effort. He was coaxed to sing a few of his own songs and as a songwriter he touched some hearts and there were some large flows of tears. Man, what talent. Personable and gifted; Bryan really allowed us feel his feelings as he wrote those heartfelt tunes. One more thing, he was always in key and no pitch issues. Kind of ironic as he gained a following that would show up at every set - sometimes 5 a day. We had quite a bonding through this music with the other "groupies". "Our next cruise MUST include Bryan James" was echoed from at least a dozen folk at his last day's performance. 6 STARS entertainment right there on a 5 star ship!! Read Less

This was our first cruise and a celebration of our 40th Anniversary. The ship was wonderful - first voyage after retrofit. The crew was excellent. So many nice people working onboard. Went out of their way to help us first time cruisers. Loved the food, the fun - everything. The shows were excellent. Loved that there was a crew there that were counting animals - they taught me a lot about whale and animal watching. Can't wait to go again. We will go again for sure. This was such a fun time for us. We're so glad we chose this cruise to be our first. The only complaint would be the bathroom - the shower would flood the floor all over. There is no way of stopping the water from going everywhere. I know this bathroom was handicap accessible but this still wasn't workable due to water going everywhere. Need to come up with a better design. Read Less

Before you jump to conclusions I have been on 10 cruises and this literally was the worst. The only things we enjoyed were the shore excursions. The ship is in great need of being redone. There was dust and apparently other things on the ship making people cough and sneeze all the time. We both left the ship not feeling well and I ended up at the doctor and more time off work due to my illness. This was our first time on Celebrity and will be the last. It was so bad my husband is talking about never cruising again. They were out of my husbands drink of choice the first day telling him it hadn't been loaded yet (we were at sea already), then they got upset when he wouldn't drink their alternative. They truly ran out of Bud Light on the 4th day of the trip. Amazing!! They closed the buffet many times a day and had the same foods every day with no variety. The curtains in our stateroom were literally falling to pieces. I had to use a paperclip just to keep them shut at night. The tie backs were held on the wall by a nail and a safety pin. Our bed were rutted in the middle and kept coming apart and my husband kept falling in the crack. I could go on for hours but don't have the desire to get deeper into the mees it was. Read Less

We lucked out with good weather but the cruise did not meet our expectations. Just about everything was just pretty average other than cleanliness which was great. The ship was very clean and well maintained. . This was our first time cruising on Celebrity. The food was very bland. The service was pretty good. The buffet offered variety but nothing exceptional in terms of flavor. The food in dining room was plain. I thought by upgrading to Celebrity the food would be much better than bland and plain. The wine list was pretty weak. The bartenders appeared as though they didn’t drink because they didn’t appear to know how a cocktail should taste. The only exception was the lead bartender at the martini bar. The Sommilier at dinner actually tried to serve me Barefoot wine (3.99) a bottle retail and we had the premium drink package. Our cabin was fine, the bathroom was pretty spacious by cruise ship standards. The entertainment was really disappointing. MSC’s entertainment is 10’s better. There was only one show that I would say was pretty good. The rest were really amateurish. The captain was entertaining and the ports were okay. None of the excursions we took were exceptional. We saw very minimal wildlife.. The best part was Endicott Arm. Honestly, that was really the only thing worth the trip other than the views of the mountain ranges. The ports are pretty much souvenir stores, some cute buildings and cafes. If I had to do it over I would go in summer and fly to Anchorage and hire a guide to see Denali. Touristy ports and too many days at sea for a 7 night cruise. Too little wild life. Read Less

I was very impressed with a lot of thing about Celebrity Solstice and very disappointed with other things. The shows were great, especially the Alaska shows. I was a little disappointed in the age of the ship but it wasn't dirty just a little aged. The Ocean View Cafe was great if you were of Asian or Indian background or if you love their food. The American fare was poor. The food looked right but it definitely didn't taste right. The sauces for the pasta was runny, the eggs were runny, the hamburgers were burnt, and the selection was almost nonexistent. There were very few waiters/waitresses on the floor so you just had to make do with pushing used dishes out of the way. The main dining room was terrific. The food here was outstanding. Our service was slow (we don't drink) and we spent too much time waiting on our waiters to serve the food and take our dessert order. But the staff was extremely nice. Our cabin steward was the best. He worked very hard every day to make sure that everyone was happy and had everything needed, We just sailed on May 10, 2019, so our experience is fresh, The ship is well suited for couples. Of course, we sailed during the school year. Our excursions were through Viator instead of Celebrity. Other than almost missing our connection in Juneau, we didn't have any trouble finding our tour groups. The bus tour through the Yukon, in Skagway, with our tour guide Mike, was the best. We saw 2 bears, mountain goats, and a young moose. Our tour guide had sharp eyes and he was very entertaining. I believe anyone will enjoy this cruise and we are looking forward to our next one. The departing from the ship was extremely streamlined and it didn't take very long for everyone to be on dry land. The Celebrity excursions were the easiest to find since they were the first ones you came upon when docking. There were always other ship at port when were got to port so we were usually the farthest from the city. The other ships had mostly already unloaded their passengers when we first were let off the ship. Getting back on was a breeze. I brought two lanyards to hold our sea passes and we just had to show them when we boarded. Having the sea passes on the lanyards worked well for dining as well. We just showed them to the waiters and they used them to bring our sodas. The ship had a lot of things going on so you weren't bored at any time. We had to make time to go swimming and look around the ship. It was a wonderful experience and we had a great time (other than the fact that we brought our colds with us from home, but we found that the ships liquor store had things that you would normally buy in a pharmacy. Nail polish remover, cold meds, etc.) I recommend this ship and the experience to anyone wanting to discover Alaska! I no I don't have a reference point to compare this sailing to but I really enjoyed the experience. The captain came on loud speaker (outside the ship) he was Greek and a little hard to understand but he continued with the same message in a different way a few times so we were able to understand his message. First time cruising and we chose Alaska for it's scenic. It's was our 29th anniversary and decided on Celebrity Solstice after reading the reviews. We got a really good price and the weather was wonderful. Would go again. Ports were very nice. If going again would just choose the land tour next time. Ship was nice. Just needed a little more entertainment and maybe a couple of quick snack places. Ocean side café was just ok with bland food. Main dining was good and our staff was very good. We had a balcony on the 10th floor with concierge class. Was nice. The shows were ok. There really wasn't a lot of activities do to. Skayway was the best port. Would recommend the train ride. Didn't have any problems with the embarkment and disembarkation. Would have like a little more variety in shops beside jewelry and purses. Have read prior reviews about too much upselling but we didn't see much of that beside some stands posted around the ship. Overall a very nice experience and we enjoyed ourselves. Read Less

We sailed 10 days to Alaska. We are experienced cruisers and chose Celebrity because it sailed roundtrip out of Vancouver on a date we wanted. We fell for their marketing hype. It was expensive and not worth the cost. We sailed in a Concierge class cabin midship. We bought the classic drink package as a perk. There were some good points which I'll cover first. We did not pay much extra for the concierge class cabin which gives some extras that we thought were worth it. You get an expanded room service breakfast menu which included fresh squeezed orange juice and fruit smoothies. You get foot rests on the balcony which were very good. The afternoon canapes were good but we stopped them after a few days because they sat too long before we could eat them. They would be really good if you have late sitting in the dining room. Nice to have a canape with a pre dinner cocktail. The extra thick bath robes were really good especially on chilly mornings on the balcony. The bottle of bubbly in the room was actual French sparkling wine. It was decent and a nice touch to start the cruise. They no longer put flowers or fresh fruit. No longer give you a canvass tote bag. The Concierge was never around. Cabins were a good size with decent storage for a short cruise. The bathroom was very good with lots of hot water. Very poor is there is no self serve laundry anywhere. Throwing your stuff away and buying new stuff in port is cheaper than using their cleaning service. Staff were very friendly except for one buffet wait staff they brought on in Juneau. Rude and surly. I can't imagine what she will be like after 2 months at sea. Our cabin was really well maintained by a very friendly and helpful steward. He was always around and grreted us by name with a smile. Dining room staff were awesome. Very attentive and willing to correct the problems. We did not get bothered too much by the upselling. Ships officers were nowhere. Crusie director is tiresome after the second day. Very stale jokes. Food quality was mixed. We had some good meals and some very bad ones. Both in the MDR and the buffet. The buffet was mostly bad. Had many dirty plates and cutlery. More than half the items were East Indian and Asian dishes EVERYDAY. I like that food but this was way too much. It gets really boring seeing the same stuff. Some dishes were inedible they were so dry and tough. Maybe leftovers? Pasta stations were bland and watery. Pasta Soup! I was served RAW steak and RAW burger by the grill. Other guests had similar experiences. Some were very angry. We ordered poached eggs one morning in the MDR. They arrived in a bowl of melted butter!. Seriously. They have theme nights in the buffet. On Alaska day the only dish that was even remotely considered Alaskan was fish cakes and they were awful. I assumed they were left over fish from yesterday remade into patties. Not even a piece of salmon. No Alaska cod. No Albacore tuna. Alaska is the salmon capital of the world folks! We ate at Murano one night which was pretty good but too expensive. They offered a crab dinner one night which was an extra $45 plus tip each for a single king crab leg. I guess they have never been to Las Vegas!! The drink package was alright but selection is limited. Had no problem getting drinks or refills. Cappuccinos and Irish coffee in the Cafe were nice but they have to learn to wipe the tables. The mixed fancy cocktails were using premix and had hardly any alcohol. I would not buy the drink package unless it comes free as a perk or is very very cheap. Bottled water is the kind you get 6 for $1. The shopping on board is terrible. Poor quality and prices that are insulting they are so high. I can buy scotch for less in a retail store than their duty free prices. To order a $20 bottle of anything for your cabin is $100 plus tip!! They must believe their customers are stupid. They try to sell a cruise video at the end for $35. We saw a preview and it was stock footage from years ago. The ship was parked in different locations and pier has since been changed. You can get the same for free on youtube. The casino was poorly managed. We repeatedly had a young big loud drunk on our poker table and they did nothing to remove him. The art sales are a joke. Lots of Peter Max works. You should read about the current scandal surrounding Peter Max. The entertainment was awful. Jazzercizing while screech hollering is not entertainmant. Their troupe was not talented! The ships band was awesome. Probably the best we have seen on a cruise ship. Unfortuanately whenever they played around the ship it was jazz or the chacha. UGH! The guset services desk staff are indifferent not friendly at all. They gave use the wrong info several times. Had to get the right answers from other passengers. The main reason we would not cruise again with Celebrity is we feel their pricing system is predatory. It is like a dutch auction / russian roulette game. They hook you in and then start dropping the prices after you have paid. This happens sometimes daily. Our dealings with Alex from customer service in Miami were very poor. He did not honor his word. We felt bullied. Well Celebrity you had a chance to steal us away from Princess but you blew it. I feel you don't care about your passengers. You don't deliver what you advertise. You have not answered my 2 e-mails to you. You should learn the cost of acquisition of new customers and the future sales value of a loyal customer. We are wealthy, retired and active cruisers. Very poor business management. I doubt you read these reviews. My booking was 8608148. Call me if you have the courage. Read Less

This cruise was chosen specifically for the itinerary, sailing 5/9-19. The weather was fabulous, no rain in 10 days. This was my first time in Alaska, however it won’t be the last. We did excursions in every port, booked through Cruises Only, and didn’t have to mess with the masses on big busses. Cruises Only used different companies than Celebrity, so all of our excursions had 15 people or less. It was great, more personalized. Loved every port, nothing in Alaska disappointed. However, Celebrity has gone downhill since I last cruised on the Equinox in 2017. Their personalized high quality service that they pride themselves on is lacking. I read several reviews prior to our trip, and have to agree with most, food was a major disappointment. The only highlight was Tuscan Grille, which served a fine filet. We had “ anytime dining”, never had to wait in Moonlight Sonata, but food is mediocre. I admit I’m a picky eater, but not everyone wants duck, fish, or seafood every night. They do serve salmon, NY strip steak and grilled chicken breast every night. Just feel quality & service have gone downhill. The Oceanview Buffet also has suffered, not from variety, but quality. There are many different ethnic choices, but taste is bland. Same goes foe desserts at the buffet, great presentation, but no taste. Ice cream is a hit though, very good. Entertainment varied , acrobats amazing, but one show centered around Amadeus, was weird and boring. Had a comedian one night that was hilarious, wish he could have performed more. Also had a group that performed Motown songs that were very talented. Loved Alejandro the cruise director, very funny. But having said that, really wish there was more activities on the ship. Felt ship had a “ boring” vibe. Shopping was so-so on board, they want to push watches, however they are way overpriced, as is most of the jewelry. We had a concierge class veranda cabin, love the balcony, our room steward , Taat, kept things neat & clean. Don’t think I would pay for the “ Concierge Class” again, the perks aren’t worth the money. Also, the concierge is available to all passengers. Having sailed Princess, NCL, RCCL, Carnival in the past, don’t feel I will be returning to Celebrity. Again the trip was great, Celebrity charges way too much for what is provided, unfortunately. Have cruised with NCL and Holland-America for comparison. ONBOARD NATURALIST: Milos is Excellent. Every lecture he provided was excellent scientifically, with supporting details and entertaining :). Answers questions extremely well, and is one of the most enjoyable people you will meet on a cruise. He is not on every cruise. FOOD: Knew from reviews that Celebrity Eclipse had food quality issues. Dining room (Bluemoon) was good to excellent food quality with rare exception. Service was very good. Main buffet (Oceanview Cafe) was very disappointing. Consistently over cooked and dry meat, but sometimes done well on a few dishes. Cakes: not one was worth eating at the buffet. Everyone I tried (then frankly gave up after about 10 tries over several days) was either extremely bland or just poor flavors. Colorful, but not worth eating. Cafe served creme brulee that was awful. Bluemoon dining creme brule was excellent. Cafe cheese cake was awful. Bluemoon dining cheese cake was excellent. Cafe salad vegetables were often either unripe of going bad. Pizzas are mediocre. Pasta is an embarrassment. Every red or meat pasta sauce was literally SOUP, not sauce, with very weak flavoring. Cafe breads were consistently dry and hard (left out too long). Donuts were worse I've ever tasted -- old and tough. Breakfast food quality was better in the cafe than lunch or dinners, but again, waffles were dry. Pancakes were better. Meats were often dry. Muesli cereal was very good. Stick to Bluemoon dining as much as possible. SERVICE: Consistently very good service with rare exception. Wait times often too long in guest services, but dining and food table service was great, and maid service as well. ENTERTAINMENT: Not Terrible, Not Great. Some better than others, and some by personal preference. Very little to do on the days at sea except Milos' lectures. In Alaska, you can find many tours and excursions other than at the exaggerated priced ones of cruise ships. We rented cars often and made our own way at our own speed to the tours and hikes we desired, Check with each city in advance of your cruise for good public transit options of rentals and local suggestions. Most the rental cars will pick you up or have a location close to the ports. Locals informed us that most of the excursions are really not very good. We enjoyed Bald Eagles in every city on our own. Multiple eagles in most cities flying all around the city to enjoy, often right near the ship. Unless the salmon are running, rare to find bears unless in caged enclosures. MANDATORY GRATUITY: Celebrity, to their credit, allows you to decline the auto gratuity/tips ($14.50 USD per person per day) once onboard and tip your service help directly. Mandatory Gratuity is simply a fraud to hide the true costs of the cruise. Tipping is not a universal practice worldwide, so pay your staff a full honest wage, Celebrity and other Cruise Lines. Then tipping is as it should be as an add-on incentive reward for outstanding service, not for just showing up to work. Read Less

We have cruised with Celebrity on five previous occasions and have enjoyed every one, however this particular cruise experience was very dissapointing. The Cruise itinerary and ports visited were good but the on board experience was very disappointing. The biggest problem was food quality and choice. The ocean view cafe and the main restaurant was absolutely appalling. The constant sales push to dine in one of the specialty restaurants was way over the top and became extremely annoying. It seems the constant pushing of the specialty restaurants coincided with the drop in food quality in the free/included restaurants. The gym staff were extremely arrogant and unhelpful. The senior staff and officers were generally invisible but if you did run across them they where arrogant and very aloof. The only redeeming Feature was the junior staff. The wait staff in general were very good, the standouts were the cafe al bacio, ensemble lounge, Sushi on five and the international bar, the best of all was our stateroom attendant in fact he was the best attendant that we have had so far. I have complained to Celebrity but as you would expect there has been no response. The experience was so bad we will not use Celebrity again! Read Less

Past experience has always brought us back to Celebrity. This time around was a little disappointing. The attempted up-sale to the specialty dining rooms was relentless. It was never this way in the past. I was also disappointed with the bar service. When I asked for a mixed drink with a specific alcohol it was no problem at the bar and it was poured in front of me but when I asked for the same drink from a waiter I received a drink with an obviously inferior alcohol from the back bar. My drinks were not the only substituted alcohols that I heard of on board. Sad to find them cutting corners this way. The new entertainment being produced by Celebrity's production company is great. They do need to review and probably change the guest entertainment sources that fill out the shows for the cruise. Some of the singers were not even sufficient in talent to warrant a "b" stage show in Vegas. I haven't walked out of a show in many years but it happened on this cruise. Read Less

We booked thi s cruise in early may because it was with Celebrity and it offered longer days than the 7 day cruise. This was our 5t celebrity cruise and we had previously sailed on the Eclipse years ago. We saied aqua class. mainly for the blu restaurant. It did not disappoint for the staff Nirtalia Hugo and stephen they were great always with a smile and very nice Wish we could say the same for the food. We found a decline in the food. Everything was good but a bit repetitive in the cuisine.I do not eat meat the fish were very similar in taste. My companion though said his meat was very good. The boat is going for a refresh look soon and this will be good. The ship was very clean and well kept but it did show a bit of age. we did not attend many shows but the one we went to were very good . Also Milos the naturalist was very good and entertaining wish we could have seen more of his lectures. One thing we found was lacking was a bit more variety in the music maybe they will add more variety as the summer goes this being their first trip. It was the first time we encounter one staff that was not to par with their customer excellence but you are bound to encounter this once in a while. We will still sai with Celebrity we tried Holland of America, Princess and Norwegian and this is our preferred line Read Less

We chose the cruise based on the itinerary, timing and the ship. Pleased with all 3. Dining in the Luminae was exquisite in terms of the food and wine pairings and the service. We did not dine in the main dining room On the two occasions we visited the Ocean View the food and service was excellent and friendly. We only went during port days so crowds were not an issue. The cuisine and service in the Murano were excellent. We did however feel “ rushed” to eat and move on. Not the feeling one expects when enjoying “fine” dining. The service across the ship was excellent. We only attended the guest entertainer’s shows and they were very enjoyable. The main shows were not of interest to us. The band playing in the foyer in the evening was less than enjoyable and made having a quiet pre-dinner glass of champagne in the Cellar less than enjoyable. The jazz trio was quite good. As a rule we don’t take excursions but I can say that I overheard many positive comments from other passengers relative to their experiences. The ports were enjoyable as always and one of the key reasons we chose this cruise, particularly Sitka. Overall a happy ship that we will sail on again. There were a couple of small issues 1) embarkation, disembarkation, 2) shower and 3) noise in the room Regarding the embarkation process, it was without a doubt one of the worst processes we have encountered in years of Celebrity sailings out of Canada Place. Total disorganization featuring multiple circuitous paths including floor changes and poor directions. luggage drop off was not coordinated and to get back to underground parking required leaving the facility, driving around the block and reentering. Disembarkation was better but only 2 porters were on duty and finding their coordinator was not obvious. Having cleared customs ship wide in Victoria made the process much easier. The issue of the shower and the noise are addressed below in the cabin review. In therms of the ratings below, if a topic does not have a rating it is because it is not applicable to us and we can not offer a rating. This is a shortcoming of this survey design, NA should be an option on each field. Read Less

Selected it because it was a ten night with more ports! Sitka, ketchikan, juneau, skagway, icy strait point, victoria and Dawes glacier. Eclipse is a beautiful ship, the entertainment was excellent and of course luminae was great. Michaels club on this ship has a small bar and lacked the interaction with the bartenders and other cruisers as compared to solstice and reflection. This particular cruise included longer times in each port which made the experience more relaxing. Alejandro the cruise director was funny and had the cruise packed with top notch entertainment in the theater. Also, the naturalist, Milos was a real treat and full of information about the geography and animals in the area. When we were finished shopping in juneau we stopped in the mini post office and packed everything in a if if fits it ships box. For twenty bucks we avoided the hassles of possibly having over weight luggage on the way home. Read Less

This was our second cruise on the Eclipse having sailed from Dublin to Norway in May 2018 and were not disappointed. Our cabin was adequate size with a large balcony. Our room was quiet and had easy accessible to activities, pool deck, and restaurants. We love Blu . The food is excellent and seating allowed us to interact with a large number of people. I work out regularly and the area was superb. Open 24 hours (I found myself there one morning at 0430 following time change). The equipment was excellent and always available. The pool area was nearly empty due to it being Alaska in May, but a few brave souls including us frequented the hot tubs and made some great friends. We frequented all of the bar and settled most evenings at the Martini bar. Excellent drinks and entertaining bartenders. Last year we met up with some Irish friends at the third floor bar for dancing each night. Read Less

For the first time ever, we were extremely disappointed in our Celebrity cruise. We are long time Celebrity customers and for the last six years have sailed at least once a year in their aqua class cabins. It seems that each year, there is another benefit missing from the aqua cabins .... we no longer get welcome champagne, the bottled water is now limited to 2 small bottles on the first day of the cruise (this was cut a couple of years ago), no pillow menu, no additional room service offerings, etc. We continued to book aqua class because we really enjoy Blu and also I love the Persian Garden. On this cruise, the Blu experience was really frustrating, due to the Maitre'D and hostess. We would constantly be given pagers and told there was a 15-20 minute wait, despite seeing lots of empty tables. It seemed like they were trying to seat all the guests at the same time, like in the dining room. We noticed that the window tables were saved for the same guests, instead of alternating among the diners. Celebrity is also selling Persian Garden passes, so it is more difficult for the aqua class guests to gain access and with one of the beds broken, it was inconvenient. The entertainment was excellent on our cruise, both the Solstice production cast, as well as the guest entertainers. We also want to give accolades to the service personnel, who continue to be the reason we have supported Celebrity for so many years. Read Less

This was my first cruise with Celebrity however I have traveled several times on other lines. I was expecting something else as i was told if I like the previous cruise i was on this was the next level - well i was greatly disappointed. The staff - sure there was about 4-5 that i would say went above and beyond - the rest couldn't give a dam, in fact in one bar when my choice of drink ran out (on the first day) after requesting they get another bottle as there was more than enough in other bars - was told maybe i should drink in the other bar!!! The food in the dinning room was average to say the least and the servings sparse, we actually had to ask for a plate of vegetables on the side to get a "complete" meal. Don't ask for wine with your meal as by the time you have eaten maybe - just maybe it would turn up. The continuous gouging for money was sickening, i purchased a drink package that i thought would pretty much cover me but in fact it was very very basic. The whole first 2 days all the staff wanted to do was upgrade me (for $14 a day) to the better package. I will point out the price i paid was just slightly more than the drink package i had on the Princess line of which pretty much the whole bar was available to now not even being able to order a Martini on the Millennium without out paying additional. The room steward must of existed as our room was made everyday but god knows who he was, past experiences they did nothing but fall all over you to ensure a nice tip at the end of the cruise. Look it was ok, but if you want great service, a touch of decadence and to feel like they actually want to look after you i would suggest you look at other lines, i certainly wont be in a hurry to travel with them again. This was an amazing cruise , not one that I would normally do I love the sun and expected this to be cold and wet , far from it we had exceptionally good weather, fantastic sights, to see the northern lights 2 nights in a row was amazing. The Scenery wow, wow, wow, the wildlife wow the people wow the activates wow, the food was good not the best I have had on a cruise I must say... the coffee lounge was very good and the staff here were brilliant.Embarkation took all of ten minutes from the time we arrived at the dock until we were on the ship. Received a glass of champagne before heading to the stateroom. Pretty typical veranda room - the shower is a little larger than most. Hubbard Glacier was amazing from the ship. Captain Alex turned the ship around so all sides could get a great view. We had a balcony - if you can afford it, I would get it. The boat is pretty worn and I believe is having a refit she sure needs it. Read Less

I took this particular cruise because travel agency it was too of the line. The staff was excellent as were the cabins. My biggest complaint was the food. I would rate it cafeteria quality at best. My friend who cruised with me was very disappointed as well but didn't say anything until the cruise was over. Although they did have many stations in the dining room to choose from I went one day to the Mexican food bar and wanted some refried beans and they were like liquid. The desserts look absolutely gorgeous but they tasted like sponges. I love my food what was so very very disappointed in the quality. It also would have been nice to have coffee stations on the floors instead of having to go all the way up to the 12th floor to get a cup of coffee in the morning. The travel agency I went through to book the cruise said this was her favorite Cruise because of the food maybe I got on a different ship LOL but the food was anything but outstanding. Don't get me wrong it was edible but there wasn't anything I went back for seconds or thirds that's for sure. Also I felt on this particular cruise ship there wasn't really night clubs per se where you can dance and sit and listen to the music without being in the public areas. I thought that was kind of strange so I have been on many cruises before and by far right now my favorite is the star princess. I don't think I'll go celebrity ever again cuz I paid a lot of money for us to cruise and the ship really needed some updating. I hope this helps some just don't go on this particular cruise ship and expect outstanding food cuz you won't find it. Read Less

The most enjoyable part of our cruise occurred while on a tour from Skagway Port. We disembarked and found Skagway Tours. Though we hesitated to take the 3+ hour tour up to the Yukon, we are extremely glad we did! We had the best guide and driver that anyone could hope for: River. This wonderful woman proved to be informative, considerate, helpful, and kind. She made this trip the highlight of our off-ship exploring. Not only did she entertain us with stories of the region but she also provided an ongoing narrative about the way the mountains, rivers, and lakes were formed and continued to exist. She pointed out animals and things to look for and then, when she would spot one, she would stop the bus and we were able to take many pictures and video of these sights. Our most memorable sight was this absolutely gorgeous black bear. He was just strolling along the roadside munching on tasty grasses and shoots. He seemed to not even notice us but continued to graze while thrilling us with his actions. He finally lumbered off into the brush but we remember saying: "Well, that just made every dollar we spent for this trip worth every penny!!" River even stopped along the road to see if a fellow motorist who appeared to be having car difficulty might need some help. She said that up in this remote region, if someone breaks down, it's common practice for another motorist to stop to see if he can help. Who knows when another vehicle will pass by and the motorist may become stranded there. We were very impressed with River's compassion and fellow feeling for others. River slowly toured us through the town of Skagway explaining how it came to be and how it managed to function that far away from everything. We thoroughly enjoyed her stories and insight. We were very privileged to have somehow chosen to take the Skagway Tours bus with River as our driver/guide. Our experience there could not have been better. We will continue to tell our friends and family about our amazing cruise topped off by this absolutely unbelievable experience with River for as long as we live. We will recommend to everyone that they must take this cruise and experience this tour to the Yukon from Skagway, if at all possible. We are certainly hoping to return on the Solstice to Skagway and perhaps explore even further, if possible, especially if we are privileged to have River as our guide. Our on-board experience far exceeded our dreams. We enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and generous seating on the upper decks. We were able to view the scenery easily from almost any place on board. Our stateroom had a lovely balcony from which we could sit and watch the ocean anytime we wanted, privately and quietly. We appreciated the entire staff aboard the Solstice. Each staff member greeted us with a kind word and a smile no matter where we encountered him or her. The Ocean View Cafe provided excellent cuisine with a great variety of foods to satisfy all our cravings. The seating was adequate and when the weather permitted, we enjoyed the outdoors seating as well. The wait staff in Blu far exceeded our expectations. Especially Orlando, Wayan, and Budi. Not only did they provide excellent service, but they also provided abundant information about all our dining choices; doing so with smiles, laughs, and wonderful stories. The food proved to be superb! Gormet at least! Every dish we ate was scrumptious. Truly a memorable experience each time we dined. We must praise the Staff aboard the Solstice more than anything else as they are the ones who made the entire cruise so enjoyable for us. Celebrity as hired an excellent staff that is determined to be pleasant, joyful, helpful, and kind no matter what a guest may ask or require. Our Stateroom assistant, Mara, was a joy to interact with each and every day. She was sweet and kind. Always cheerful and smiling. We will always remember her. We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise and would recommend to everyone wanting the cruise- of-a-lifetime, to take this cruise with Celebrity Solstice to Alaska! No words can adequately describe the scenes and vistas your eyes will barely believe you are seeing! Go! Enjoy! It's worth every dollar spent! Read Less
