Not impressed with the ship one bit, not worth all the "hype" it was given prior to going in service. First time I NEVER bought a drink on a cruise due to the VAT. Carnival should be ashamed of their selves for not disclosing this fact prior to sailing or prior to the cancellation date. Food was so bad in the buffet, deli and the new BBQ, I wouldn't give it to my dogs. "Dive In" movie was ended 20 mins. prior to the end, so "What happened at the end?" Paying for in room movies was a joke, never had to do that before. Atriums were underwhelming and the carpet was already being replaced in many areas. First time we experienced a power failure on a ship, glad we were in port. Main dining room was just so-so, menu choices were lacking but their "Sea Day" brunch was nice. The specialty restaurants, Fahrenheit 555 and Ji Ji's were the best dinner options. Lido deck Guy's Burgers and Blue Iguana were great for lunch and breakfast. We had 3 room stewards for this cruise and that was a first, they did a great job and met all our needs always with a smile. We will be looking elsewhere for cruise before we choose Carnival again. My husband and I chose this cruise to enjoy the intensive port itinerary. We purchased this cruise at a bargain discounter that included transfers from the airport to a fantastic hotel in Athens and another transfer from the hotel to the ship. We both thought that the upper decks were fantastically designed so that there were many types of activities to enjoy. Kudos to the designers!!! On my 65th birthday I challenged myself to do the ropes course. What a blast! Another day we did the cycle ride above the decks. Again, it was a blast. We were assigned to a table for 12 at the first seating. I never would have chosen such a large table and it was not to my liking. The dining room is extremely loud without soft surfaces to absorb the sounds. I truly disliked the lack of table cloths. I tried to keep my silverware on the bread plate, but when the servers removed that plate, they place my silverware on the bare table, The servers were excellent, but because of the number of tables and people ordering multiple main dishes, and the Maitre Ds singing, we were very late leaving the dining room. It seemed like the dining schedule and the entertainment schedule were in conflict. Twice I had a problem with gluten even though I ordered in advance. I made a complaint at guest relations. I must say that the problem was addressed and that they apologized and made a change in the kitchen. It turns out another passenger with Celiac had made a complaint the same day I did. The ports were excellent, but the cruise line should have provided transportation to the gates of the port. Because of the size of the ship and the distance to the gate, we were sometimes not allowed to walk. If the ship is that far away, shuttles should run frequently. At the port of Livorno, they sold tickets to the shuttle, and the shuttle service was inadequate for the number of passengers. Also, I would have loved to have had lectures about the ports we were visiting. After reading many reviews in Cruise Critic about slow, erratic and expensive internet on cruise ships, I was happy to find the internet service on the Vista to be fast, reliable and relatively inexpensive (especially in comparison to the Celebrity Equinox, on the transatlantic leg of our voyage home). The ship is absolutely beautiful. Read Less

Had fun, very disappointed about Kusadasi being canceled. This was the main reason we took this cruise. Once cancelled this kicked in the 24% VAT which was not good. I think crew was looking ahead to New York . Cruise director was very good just had New York on her mind. Best thing about the food was Guy's Burgers. Very very good. The male singers in the band of shipseas group were not real good.(Bad) DJ not my style, messed up a lot of good songs playing around. I think ship will be much better once it reaches home in Miami and gets into a routine. Entertainment will have to improve for sure. The sky cycles were fun, the ship was smooth, the ship was clean. The cabin was kept up very well. Laundry service was fast and good. Our cabin was under buffet on 9th floor. Lots of noise at 4 am from carts wheels rolling around. Need pneumatic tires on carts. Final word, Yes I would go again. Things will get better on this beautiful ship. Read Less

We traveled via Eurostar and TGV to Barcelona from London and had 2 nights in Barcelona before boarding Carnival Vista. We purchased Hop on Hop Off Turisme bus tickets for our day in Barcelona and traveled the whole of all 3 routes in the day, jumping off at various points. Barcelona is a wonderful city and we hope to return sometime to do it more justice than you can possibly do in a day. Embarkation and Debarkation was absolutely superb. We had been robbed on our journey in Paris and had no boarding passes or luggage tags. This was no problem and the staff handled it professionally and politely, and we were not delayed at all in boarding. The ship is huge and the facilities, cabin and bathroom superb. Personally I found the Atruim disappointing, but my other half liked it. We rarely had problems with the lifts, of course there were delays at busy times, but these were not excessive, and the ship rarely seemed overcrowded wherever you went. One criticism was the lack of encouragement to use the sanitising gel. On Norweigian staff were virtually spraying it on your hands as you went past them, but on this ship no encouragement whatsoever. I finished the cruise with a bug, but can't say it was down to the ship, but this aspect does warrant improvement. Dining wise I have to say I was disappointed with the Buffet. On our only other cruise which was with Norweigian (Jade) you could find virtually whatever cuisine you wanted. This buffet was very limited. However the food and service in the Horizons resturant was very good, although My Time dining wasn't as you were unable to book a time at the desk, and were constantly advised to go early as it would be busy later. We used the Steakhouse, Asain, Italian and Seafood Shack Speciality Resturants, and found these excellent in food quality, service and value for the cover charge. Indeed our meal in the Steakhouse was one of the best we had ever eaten. We didn't use many of the entertainment facilities, but found ourselves drawn to the Red Frog Pub most nights. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a superb solo artist in Ed Carr. The place was rocking at times. We booked a Carnival Excursion in all ports of call and have to say enjoyed all of them. The highlights were Capri and the Amalfi coast, and Rome in which we were really lucky in having Pablo who was a superb guide. All in all though a very enjoyable cruise. Read Less

We booked this cruise in December 2015, our TA got us a great deal on an Ocean Suite, however, my wife was taken into hospital 3 weeks before we were due to sail. We feared that we would have to cancel, but her health improved quite quickly, and we both decided that it would probably be beneficial to have 8 days of rest and relaxation aboard ship but not do any off ship excursions. This proved to be a good decision. We had booked the Hotel Continental in Barcelona for a 2 night pre-cruise stay, it is a wonderfully quirky place and we had an excellent room with a queen sized bed and a balcony overlooking Las Ramblas. We loved this hotel and have already booked there again prior to a cruise we are taking next June. On departure day the cruise terminal was extremely busy and the safety drill later in the day was a bit chaotic. We found out later that the previous cruise was delayed arriving in Barcelona due to engine trouble and that as a result everything was running behind schedule. We had to queue for about 20 minutes before we could drop off our luggage, after that we were checked in and aboard the ship pretty quickly. As we were in a suite we had priority check in, so that probably helped. We were also pleased to discover that as suite guests our room was ready straight away, this enabled us to drop our hand baggage off and go to the Lido buffet for some lunch. The ship is huge and even after 8 days aboard with no shore excursions we felt that we still hadn't seen everything it had to offer. Accomodation...Our stateroom, as I mentioned earlier, was an Ocean suite on deck 7. It was a large room with a king bed, large sofa, armchair, coffee table, dressing table, fridge, safe and an enormous flat screen TV, there was also a separate closet area for clothes. The bathroom was also a good size with a full sized whirlpool bath with an overhead shower, wc and double washbasins. The balcony was the full width of the room with 3 chairs and a small table. Our cabin steward Mihai was unobtrusive but very efficient. Overall , we were very happy with our choice of cabin. Dining... We ate all our breakfasts and lunches in the Lido buffet. The was a lot of choice and the food was very tasty. For dinner we were on Your Time Dining, for this you had to check in at the reservations desk on Deck 5 and the go to the Horizons restaurant which was on 2 levels and had entrances on decks 3 & 4 (ours was deck 4, the upper level). Apart from the first night when everybody was still unsure about the system, we never had to wait more that a couple of minutes either to check in or be seated in the dining room. We had a great service team and requested their service area for all the following nights. Entertainment...There are some great entertainers in all the bars, our favourite was the Red Frog pub. We also enjoyed the dive in movies in the evenings on the pool deck and the Thrill Theatre, my wife particularly liked the scary late night showing there. Apart from the Red Frog we didn't go to many of the bars and shows as we preferred to sit out on deck in an evening on the very comfortable lounge chairs and sofas chatting to other passengers. Conclusion... We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise on the Vista, the crew and other passengers were very friendly and we would have no hesitation in cruising with Carnival again in the future Read Less

We booked this cruise several months in advance, and splurged on both airfare and the room by upgrading. We upgraded our room to the Spa Balcony Suite and chose the one at the front of the boat 14206- we were told it was bigger, and the balcony would wrap around- not the case at all! I've never been so disappointed in a room before- the suite was smaller than the regular rooms, and the balcony was smaller than a normal balcony and had a partition cutting off the "wrap around" so the only view we had was directly straight ahead. We lost a lot of balcony space because it was at the curve and so it angled off, some spots were 4 feet deep, others less than 3. We were woken up twice (once on a sea day) by the spin class below us- at 8am....this was not acceptable. Embarkation was a disaster- we were supposed to be "priority" but there really wasn't such thing in Athens, as they have a makeshift terminal- so everybody goes thru the same thing. Dining was excellent- we were worried about waiting a long time with anytime dining, but we never waited at all- servers were attentive and the food was better than almost any other cruise we've been on. Very clean, very well done. Staff were excellent w/the exception of one person- we were very surprised as we have been on Breeze and other big boats and felt service was lacking. Boat never felt crowded! Read Less

First of all I have to commend the staff of the Guest Services desk who were phenomenal. They helped me out since the airline left my bag in New York. They also let me use their international telephone to make phone calls to airlines in order to change my departure plans. They also let me log into the upgraded computer plan and then adjust the charges back down to a lesser plan. The staff of Guest Services changed my rating of the cruise from poor to average. I had a cove balcony cabin which was fine. Cabin steward was not very helpful and rarely seen. Had dinner in the dining room the first night - slow service, cold food no table clothes. My travel companions would not eat in the dining room again instead going up to the buffet. I know that cruising has changed, but it is no longer the value vacation it used to be. Carnival now charges for movies on the cabin television as well as the IMAX theater on board and everywhere else they could make a buck. One bloody mary was $12.99! The room service menu has cut back on "free" offerings and now charges for some items like chicken wings. Come on folks - what happened???? The shops on board were extremely overpriced - more so than usual. I realize that since we were not able to go to Turkey we had to pay the VAT tax on both food,& beverage and on board gift shop purchases. This is the last time I will sail on Carnival. Sorry, but you have cut so many amenities and now it's just tacky. Read Less

The worst ship we have ever been on. Not customer focused, food in mdr was awful, service was poor, Lido dining was always a mess, not enough seating, long lines. They refunded the bubbles program which was extremely disappointing as my husband is a diabetic and has few options. The ship pathways are crooked and uneven, I fell more than once. The laundry room was filthy every time I went in there. In some ports we had to go through security twice, once on land and again on the boat. Very slow and long lines to get back on the ship, especially at Naples. Paid for an excursion in Rome and the guide spoke poor English. They forgot about the cruise critic meet and greet so there were no drinks and no apps. They finally came and said we could have one drink but kicked us out of the room because it was needed for someone else. I felt like we were no more than a number. Not customer service friendly at all. Read Less

I wanted to cruise to the Mediterranean and wanted to see several places and this seemed to be the best say to accomplish that . It has been awhile since we cruised with Carnival and for the most part the ship wasnt that much different than the others. What was different is they are only trying harder to get your last dollar. Half way thru the cruise they tacked on a 24 percent tax to everything you did or purchased on the cruise. They have a new IMAX well yes for extra $12.50 per person charge each movie. The food was the same thing over and over every night unless you paid extra to dine in the extra pay restaurants. I have always thought the drinks and pictures were over priced but they seems to just get worse about trying to get every dollar they can. We had a massage and facial while on the ship and instead of it being a relaxing experience they made you feel like you had to buy there products totaling over $500 for what they tried to sell me, that is not relaxing to me. The ports were awesome the experience with carnival, I will give it a 4.Our cabin was near the liquid lounge and our cabin rocked all night long to the beat of the music so that was not relaxing either. All in all not a very good experience. Read Less

As travel agent, always interested in personal experience to better sell the product. From almost 40 cruises taken, I consider this cruise the BEST! The itinerary, the activities on the ship, the eating and drinking venues! My only regret was not having enough time to try more dining options and more activities! Closed down the Havana Club every night, loved the IMAX, acquired a taste for martinis at the Alchemy Bar!!! Steakhouse dining was the BEST! Buy's hamburgers were amazing! Skyride was awesome! I really liked the idea of having different breakfast options without having to fight the crowds in the Lido Deck. The Havana Club was VERY cool!I was disappointed with the clam chowder, but the main dining room food was good. I was not able to try the conk fritters. I was disappointed with the cake and brownies in the Bake Shop, but I waited for the freshly-baked chocolate cookies every afternoon. I would sail again and not go ashore where I've visited previously so I can enjoy the ship! LOVED IT! Read Less

I chose this cruise because I've always enjoyed the other cruises I've taken with Carnival. A few weeks before we sailed, the cruise line called and asked if I would like to upgrade to a balcony cabin and of course I did. When we first saw the cabin I was quite pleased as it had 2 bathrooms, 2 TV's, a sofa and a balcony. My first thoughts were, this is wonderful!! BUT is was NOT. Around 2:30 am a huge crashing, scraping noise brought me to my feet in a panic. I thought the ship had hit something but no announcement came so I called the service desk to inquire. I was told our cabin is directly below the galley! Imagine my surprise! At no time did anyone tell me this when I upgraded. The next morning I was informed there was nowhere else on the ship to move us as it was completely booked, however, the desk would call the galley to ask them to keep down the noise. For the next 10 nights we experienced the same racket. We had booked all the shore excursions in all the ports but we were so completely exhausted from lack of sleep that is was very difficult to enjoy them. While the ship did give us a partial credit for the upgrade, it did not make up for the torment and lack of sleep we went through. The crew and staff were excellent, but whoever put a suite under the galley should be strung up for being so completely stupid. Read Less

This was our best cruise ever. We almost cry when we disembark. The ship was new. Food was excellent (went with Costa and MSC before so I can compare the standards). Staff super friendly. Cabins were wonderful. There were no lines at the buffet. The breakfast was so rich and there was free sunday, pizza, coffee and home-made ice-cream until late hours. My daughter loved the entertainment on the ship (she is 10 years old). Waterslides, bingo, night shows, movies on the top floor with free popcorn, free movies to pick on the cabin TV, free room service (we ordered breakfast every morning in our cabin) etc. The embarkation was smooth and the same was with disembarkation. The most important was that you felt that there was no-one on the ship but you. Not overcrawded like MSC and Costa. If you are planning to cruise the Vista is exceptional. I highly recommend. Can't wait for their new ship (Horizon). Read Less

Good - the staff. Every one gave 110%. We often were greeted with "welcome back" as if the staffer recognized us from a prior cruise - or from a prior day onboard - or observed our color-coded prior cruiser room card. In any event, a nice feeling. Good - the ship decor, cleanliness, and appointments. As a new ship, the cleanliness was to be expected, but the pleasant decor was a plus. Other ships had hideous wall designs and coloration. The atrium was a continuous gentle swirling of color - very relaxing. Room decor was also well done. Each room has a large, flat-screen TV. Good - in-room safe. The safe opened and closed with a 4-digit pin, so all occupants had access without needing the one person with the specific credit card to be available. Good - the daily Carnival Fun Times was concise and efficiently presented. Small enough to be folded into a man's pants pocket without difficulty. A nice improvement is the addition of movie ratings and length for all movies, not just some (movie length helps immeasurably in planning for the busy daily schedule). Good - main dining room food. Equal to the best of any other Carnival ship. For those familiar with the 3-part menu, it was mostly repetitive as to the leftmost two pages. But the right page ("Ports of Call" foods) represented Spain, Italy, France, etc. and was distinctly several steps above Caribbean, Caribbean, Caribbean, etc. Bad - operating hours of the Salad Bar in the seniors-only (Serenity) area were not posted. It was open on our first day of the cruise. We intended to go there on future days but it was always closed. Eventually I asked a staffer what was up. He said it was only open on sea days. The only sea day on this particular cruise was the first day, so we missed out. The hours need to be posted (and maybe put a heads-up in the Fun Times to avoid passenger disappointment). Tip: visit it early and verify your sea days. Bad - Serenity whirlpool safety. The warning sign outside the whirlpool tells users to limit time to 15 minutes. But there is no clock visible! Carnival needs to put up a clock nearby. Tip: if you are sensitive to long-term exposure to heated water, or in any way concerned, bring your watch to keep track of the time. Bad - limited number of whirlpools. The ship is much larger with so many more things to do, but whirlpool availability has become limited. There is no whirlpool in the fitness center as on other Carnival ships. There is an age-restricted (21+) whirlpool in the Serenity area and only two whirlpools open to everyone else. Very crowded and usually very populated with children. Good - music all around the ship. The Vista had the best performers we've seen in the various lounges and atrium. Exceptionally skilled violinists, piano players, and guitarists. The piped-in music seemed to be better, too (maybe my imagination as I can't be sure what I remember about piped-in music on other ships.) BAD - the layout of the main showroom (the Liquid Lounge) is a huge disappointment. The main level is basically that - LEVEL! The rows barely increase in height so you can't see over the heads of the people in front of you. Also, the designer must have thought that a flexible seating area would allow rearrangement to suit various productions so the majority of seats are chairs. But since the showroom is rather tiny, Carnival squeezed in a row of chairs between the fixed seats and packed in the rows of chairs very tightly, so that there are very few aisles to move around the room. It's hard to get to many of the seating areas. And the waiters can't get through most of the rows to serve drinks. Tip: arrive early for shows to scope out the location of the moveable chairs and to get the better seats. Good - the productions in the main showroom are terrific. And the cast is particularly talented in singing and dancing. Their choreography is worthy of Olympic synchronized events. Bad - the casino layout (done by the same company that did the Liquid Lounge) was again a disappointment (possibly due to Carnival's placement of the slot machines and tables). In several locations against the wall it is impossible to pass behind the player's chairs. This was true of the interior walls as well as the outer, seaside walls. Also, in the center there is a circular bar with a circular wall around it. To pass between the wall and one of the huge pillars, one must turn sideways. Bad - male restroom access from the casino. You probably won't believe this, but I swear it is true. When a male asks a casino staffer "Where is the nearest men's room?", the answer is "It's not on this floor. Take the elevator up one floor and it is right there!!" That's the only time I have ever been told to take an elevator to get to a restroom on a Carnival ship. (BTW - not a problem for ladies. They have a nearby restroom.) Read Less

I don't normally write reviews but wanted to share. First the bad,....Embarkation was a disaster in comparison to other cruises. Took over an hour and we had a crying two year old, didn't seem to matter to the check in personnel as they had problems taking our pictures and could not fix it. We ordered the bottomless bubbles for our eight year old, does NOT include bottle water, was told by guest service man, unfortunately cannot remember his name, that if it was his child he wouldn't let them order that as he doesn't drink soda.....we don't either but it is vacation and we wanted our child to have a choice and fun being independent. We eventually got it refunded, along with free tickets to theatre and dr suess breakfast along with a twelve pack of water to our room. Our room when we arrived had broken door to refrigerator and closet along with broken hangers on the ground that our two year old poked her hand with playing as we were hanging our things up as we did not expect that and didn't pay close attention, Maintenon came and fixed quickly. Main dining room sevice acceptable at best, little attention given and did not feel special except for one serve, Natdkya, and one bar waiter, Martin. Ship overall mediocre in cleanliness, even though new ship. Strange layout, certain floors you can't get from one side to the other, no glass elevators, no open atrium only three floors with small open space. Outdoor areas smaller and hard to pass others although the glass partionons on the promenade deck great for reducing wind! Cabin smaller than expected although we had a family harbor premium ocean view with two bathrooms that supposedly could fit five....definitely NOT! The one bathroom with tub and sink was so small you could barely move, the entrance way had the closets so very cramped and impossible to pass If you needed in the closets. Red frog bartenders terrible!!! Casino size and layout small and not inviting. The good news....camp ocean for kids is great, we have children that do not speak English, Natasha from Croatia and Sam from Canada were fantastic doing all they could to get them involved!!! Hats off!!!, Spa...typical although the upgraded spa area was fantastic with several sauna, steam rooms and whirlpool and louge chairs with a great view, Sian and Chloe were very nice and helped talk to me about issue i have without trying to sell me expensive products, although the products they have are fantastic! filip from the gym, I believe from Serbia, was great! I showed up a couple times for classes that had to be cancelled due to none participation and the last class he did just with me because he felt bad that I showed up for nothing! Water works was great! Sky ride was nice but a bit of a let down as I just expected more, nice outdoor spaces, serenity nice, bbq place on deck five rocks! Guys burger and Mexican cantina rocks but unfortunately they are not open for dinner, wish that would change! I read poor reviews about dining, it was the best I've had on over 14 cruises! Service not the best but food yes!! Lido is good but as said in other reviews limited options. We ate at the Italian and Asian restaurants on deck 11, great food and well worth the 15 per person up charge. The tides pool bat aft on deck 11 has three Alexandra's all from Serbia that work there, all nice, "Alex" was the best! Pizza place ok, didn't try bonsai, steakhouse or seafood shack. What I found great was the very distinct cabin areas! (Havana, spa and family harbor) Great choice by carnival! Nice variety to just your typical , interior, ocean view, balcony and suites! Thrill theate and dr Seuss breakfast were great! We didn't do any entertainment as too much with a 2 year old. Fitness room a joke in camparision to other cruise ships! I was concerened about our room service when we arrived but Marvin really took good care of us!!! And we had several issues that he handled with flare! Family harbor rooms are worth it in my opinion as the family harbor lounge has full service breakfast, snacks from 3-5 and your own concierge and always milk, coffee water, yogurt and ice cream available and close to main dining, and getting on and of ship. I have been on many cruises, second with carnival....will we try them again?....maybe.... Read Less

We chose this cruise as it was to be a family holiday for my birthday with my wife,daughter,2 grandsons and my daughters friend, having originally booked and being told it was. direct flight we were later informed that Carnival had altered the flights to connections in Germany flying with Lufthansa and returns through Holland with KLM with very poor flight times especially with 2 young children My wife & I have cruised before with 2 different cruise companies but decided on the Carnival Vista as it was billed as a fun cruise which with first time cruisers and young children and a casual type of cruise we thought it would suit all parties Embarkation was ok and my only comment would be we had to pick a slot which if the flights were organised by Carnival you would have thought they would have informed us of? The ship itself was OK with plenty of things to keep young & older cruisers entertained but with bizarre height restrictions on the slides the slowest of which children had to be taller to be allowed on, having said that it did depend on which staff members were at the top of the slides as some did not seem to mind who went down No problems with the cabins our inside cabin was more than adequate the problems were with the dining, the Horizons restaurant was a farce with the staff at times unable to understand basic English and constantly getting orders wrong, after 3 attempts we decided to eat at the Marketplace on deck 10 but disappointingly the choices as with the Horizon was repetitious & poor Apart from the Red Frog pub & brewery the staff at all the other bars seemed low on moral & overworked for the amount of people on board and subsequently service suffered, having said that the extortionate prices plus gratuities & local tax on top made drink prices rediculous I did complain to Guest Services but was treated with contempt when complaining about the service and the fact that various items kept disappearing from our Sun beds when we went to the pools etc The excursions we went on we're as expected as we have cruised Europe before, the entertainment was not as good as previous cruises and the venues were small with poor views if you were late in arriving Overall this cruise did not live up to its billing despite the efforts of the cruise director who tried very hard to make things go with fun Read Less

The ship ticked all the boxes for three generations,we traveled with our Daughter,Son in Law and Grandchildren 8years & 13years. The ship was immaculate, the service & cleaning faultless. We have sailed with other cruise lines and seen the same old production shows with singers and dancers doing sometimes two shows maybe upto four shows in fourteen days,on the Vista we had four modern exciting shows in eight days, plus the dancers got involved in pre show activities, our next cruise is Princess can't see them matching the Vista shows. Our Grandaughter loved everything on the ship and only went ashore at one port. We had your time dinning but after the first evening we asked for the same table so we had the same waiter who really was a star. Perhaps the icing on the cake was Matt the entrainment director, certainly the best we have ever seen, very funny and always around and involved. Just to many good things about this cruise,we booked this ship to suit our Grandchild but ended up loving the Vista, well done. Read Less

travelling with another couple that hadn't had but wanted a Europe experience so ports of call were important to help give them a 'flavour'. Thought the new ship looked fun and liked the itinerary and the exclusive Havana area. Thank goodness for our Havana booking! Although only one of the whirlpools was working the pool area and bar exclusive from 7am-7pm was the trip saver. Other ship pools too small and merky to handle all these children and no pool and only one working whirlpool in adult serenity area. Carnival needs to help staff with enforcing waterslide expectations (it is wild and safety is high risk), Enjoyed the ropes course and the Sky Ride but be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes and only open 1-6. The noise from the basketball court above the lovely Capitanio pasta restaurant is terrible. No where to eat after 11pm unless you wanted to line up with 50 teens for pizza, or go to your cabin for room service. Dining menu offered a good variety, quality and presentation was average; wait staff were very hard working and fun dancers! We went to almost all the bars and restaurants. Guest services were very pleasant as were the shore excursions desk and the staff at Pixels. Ken was top notch at the Piano Bar (hope he gets paid well); the entertainment had packed venues: this week were 4 comedians, opera singer (lovely but not appreciated with Carnival clientele), hypnotist, ships singer/dancer troup. The Pub was always filled and we really enjoyed the Red brew and the vocalist-guitarist. The activities were delivered by excellent cruise director Matt and his assistants ( and of course the volunteer travellers!). Could offer some more on sea days. Shore excursions are often available once on the ship although the on-line pre-booking appears sold out -so check at the desk. Most of the excursions are priced competively and we had excellent tour guides in Rome and Naples. There were a mix of nationalities on this trip and that will likely change when Vista comes to the Caribbean. Carnival needs to revisit Havana access, staff was amazing enforcing to cabin holders only, but the wear and tear of the area was obvious as after 7pm there was no restrictions of age. It is a fun ship with swarms of children. Read Less

This was our first cruise so I cannot compare to other cruises. Family of 5 with 8,10 and 17 year old so had 2 cabins on 1st Deck. The rooms were very good and clean and beds were extremely comfortable. The boat overall is excellent for families as lots to do and kids had a great time. Below are comments on the main parts for us: Swimming pools - very small and filled with salt water which is not pleasant. The slides and kids fun pool is great. The enforcement of towels being removed after 40 mins is very hit and miss. Dining - overall the food was dissappointing it was ok but not brilliant. Breakfast was good at the buffet (lido market place) continental and cooked eggs, bacon, pancakes etc. Lunch - guys burgers were great as were the pizzas, went to the Asian at lunch which was not good so would not opt to pay a charge to eat there in the evenings. The Lido marketplace was good at lunch with good selection. Dinner - the horizons resteraunt was not very impressive and food was same as the lido market place but with waiter service which was appalling. Most of the waiters did not seam to be organised or well trained or managed. Do not go to deck 5 to register for dinner if you are on anytime. Just head for deck 4 the upper level of Horizons as we got seated quicker this way. Dress code is a joke. As this was our first cruise we did not know what to expect so we ensured we dressed appropriately such as collared t-shirt or shirts in evening and suit with no tie of elegant night. The resteraunt basically allowed anyone in which was annoying sat opposite to someone in vest, swim shorts and flip flops! The shore excursions are extortionate and shuttle buses were seriously overpriced. The crew even scared people about going off the boat independently which was very underhanded. For example I booked a train to Rome in advance and They were telling people the train would take over an hour and a half when it only took 40 mins. We did not use the drinks packages as we do not drink alchohol and the drinks available were fine for us. Entertainment was very good and even though Matt the cruise director is from uk he definitely acts for the US audience but he does a great job of getting people to enjoy there stay. The kids club was also excellent and our younger ones enjoyed it. But our 17 year old son found little catered for him as there is nothing for the over 18's and due to being American drinking is for over 21's. The ship has fantastic potential but really needs better management and training of its staff as the feel of service was very disjointed. Guest services were very hit and miss some were very helpful and others were terrible, the same with the waiting staff. Overall we did have a great time and the boat is great for families and above comments are being critical but honest. I would recommend for families. Read Less

My first point is the most important. EVERYONE is different - so be careful how seriously you take the reviews. You may read bad ones written by people who are not like you at all. I expected everyone to be the same on the boat and to choose the same things as me. They do not. Some get off at every stop, some get off at none. Some get balconies and no drinks package (like us), some go for the cheaper internal cabins and get the drinks package. Some people find their spot on the boat and you find them there every day. Others (like us) never sit in the same place twice. All this means that all the reviews are different and may not suit you. This was our first cruise with a family of 5 with 3 kids between 5 and 9. We had a blast. This is not really a food boat - a lot of it was similar from night to night. That didn't bother us - we were there for the kid's facilities - waterpark, cinema, kid's club - you can see it all on youtube. We had seen a lot of youtube tours of the boat so we pretty much knew what we were getting - one piece of advice though - the bathrooms in the cabins look terrible on youtube but they were great (first timer mistake probably). We choose assigned dinning at 6 which worked well for us with young kids. We are kosher and they were very helpful at getting us stuff we could eat. We can't compare the entertainment (the shows) to other boats as this was our first but the shows were excellent and kid friendly. We saw all of them - the 4 real shows together with the others. Only one was a let down - some woman singing opera. We only got off 3 times - in Livorno we just walked around the port and went back. In Naples we planned our our private tour of pompeii- just look on tripadvisor. 350 Euros for the 5 of us. Well worth it. In Rome we totally did our own thing - booked the train in advance on the internet - 918 there and the 1607 back - absolutely perfect - even booked 1st class as it was only a tiny bit more. One word of warning - the shuttle takes you to the other end of Civitechia forcing you to walk through the town (20mins) to get to the train station. Overall it was a great party ship with cruise director Matt. We had a blast and would choose Carnival again - but equally Royal Carribean as most people we spoke to said there wasn't much difference between the 2. And remember - everyone is different - do not be put off by some negative reviews. Read Less

We chose this ship because of the ports of call. We have always been interested in a Mediterranean cruise so when we heard about the Vista being a new ship and spending time in the Med we jumped on it! The ship was beautiful, reminded us a lot of the Breeze which we had been on last summer. Embarkation was easy. We arrived a little before our appointed time but we were ushered right in. The line moved quickly. We were on the ship in less than an hour. Our bags didn't arrive until about 5:00 but we spent the time exploring the ship anyway. We had an aft-view extended balcony room on deck 8. Very quiet and comfortable. Although we overlooked the Havana pool deck we did not hear any music at night. We were a little disappointed that they didn't have loungers on the balcony as there was plenty of room for one. We had two chairs and a little table. We tried the steakhouse and JiJi's. Both were delicious. We ate in the MDR the rest of the evenings and food there was excellent as well. The port heavy cruise was a little exhausting as we had to get up everyday really early but it was worth it. Would have liked a sea day in between some of the ports but understandable how it had to be. We felt that since we were there we had to get off the ship and explore! We will definitely sail on Vista again once she's in Miami. We stayed in Barcelona for a few days after. This was a great city to explore as well! Overall, beautiful ship and wonderful trip. I can't believe it's over! Read Less

this was our first cruise so was a bit nervous about a few things: - embarkment and disembarkment chaos, amount of space in room with family of four (kids 11 and 13) with two weeks stuff, number of people on ship. Let me say then embarkment and disembarkment were a complete breeze. If you followed your directions. Our embarkment time was 2:00 and we were less than 20 minutes to get on the ship. Very little line ups. Disembarking we opted to have our bags picked up the night before. They called our zone just after we finished breakfast and were off the boat in Barcelona and in our hotel by 9:30. Those that seemed to have issues decided they were beyond any of the zones or processes so I guess that is the risk you take. The cabin was surprising well appointed once we organized a bit - extra hangers, shoe organizer on door, cases unpacked and under bed. Happy there. The number of people particularly on seas days was something that would stop me from repeating. The fights over lounger chairs, the complete chaos on lido deck. Your literally are touching arms with the people beside you. Even quitter areas you had to be up for 6 am to get a chair. Carnival really needs to address this. Others cruise lines and resorts seem to have handled this. There should be reminder and announcements and from day one start removing items after people are away for periods of time. They started this on the second sea day but too late. Also the drink package was a complete rip off. You PAY an extra %'age tax per drink (about $1.00 USD per drink and 0.15 for pop) on top of prepaid... in Greece it was 25%. Nowhere in the small print and no other cruise lines does it! BEWARE So we had a great time- how could you not with the ports - Marseille, Rome, Florence, Dubrovnik, Corfu, Naples, Sicily, Sardinia.... just not sure I"d chose this ship again. More because of the crazy crowds of people. That being said we had 3 sea days. If there was just 1 sea day it would have been fine. Port days and evenings were great and crowds were not noticed. On sea days they held activities etc around lido deck pool which was already stupid busy. They should be held elsewhere and that way would resolve some of the crowding issues. There were actual fist fights over lounge chairs on lido deck. We stayed far away. Read Less
