Now we know why Carnival was described as the "Walmart" of all cruise lines. If you like throwing yourself into crowds of loud, obnoxious, unpolished people; then this cruiseline is for you! With almost thirty different places for food and beverage service, only a handful are worth acknowledging. Tacky entertainment to the point of embarrassment, and mediocre at best food and shopping, this cruiseline wreaks CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP! If you are a conservative personality or easily offended by the lifestyles of the uncouth, please do not waste your money, you are risking great disappointment. The condition of the ship for only being two years old was shocking. The Havana pools were rusted all around the tiles and the pool floor was covered with a green film. The only pool maintenance we witnessed, was a girl with a pool skimmer. Our room 6467 was in the Havana suites, extended balcony aft view. The room was very nice and the gentlemen that maintained them for the week, did it very efficiently. Disembarktion was a nightmare! Don't hurry to get in line to get out because it was hours! Serpentine lines of angry people, screaming babies, frustrated parents and crew members alike, di yourself a favor- and just wait in a line or restaurant until the hoards of ignorance get off. DO NOT waste your money on Carnival transportation to and from the cruise port! This will track on an hour each way. Take an Uber and pay half as much money with faster service. If you must take this vessel of deplorables, DO get the "Cheers" drink package and DO buy the "Faster to ther Fun" ticket. Read Less

Boarding the boat with priority boarding didn't happen. Mass amounts of people and rooms not ready. Didn't have enough seating at lunch in the market place after every one boarded. For being a new boat. the lack of air conditioning [or keeping the hot air out] in the Market Place was very uncomfortable eating conditions. Our cabin not being ready when promised, and the when we gain access 1 1/2 hours later it was still dirty. Dirty fridge, garbage on balcony, we washed windows and mirrors due to finger prints. The pizza we had made had a chunk of hair in it. The cabin steward came into our room, when we didn't answer the door. It was before 8:00 in the morning and we were still sleeping. All because he wanted to give us a picture. Waiting for an elevator with all the people - sometimes you waited 10 minutes. A couple of the bars there was no service and cups and dishes on tables and left. Disembarking was a huge mess. Trying to get to the lower level was almost impossible - elevators were packed full and took almost an 45 minutes just to get to the lower level. Lines where ridiculous - some people said they had been in line for almost an hour trying to get off the ship. The only thing that saved the trip was the entertainment and cruise director was great. This was our 5th or 6th Carnival cruise, but definitely our last. The last 2 or 3 Carnival cruises we took, we noticed a definite decline in several aspects of the cruise experience in regards to food quality, drink quality, and service. This cruise was a new low.The ship itself was fine, pretty average. Staterooms the same. On this cruise though, we made the mistake of going during spring break. I've been on 17 or 18 cruises, and I've never seen anyone puke in the pool. On this cruise, it happened 3 times in 2 days. On one of the 3 sea days we had, someone puked in the main pool, shutting it down for the day because the ship can only discharge into the ocean at certain times, and they said 9 pm was the soonest they could drain the pool. It sucks, but accidents happen. What made me mad was when the drunk people who had "taken over" the main pool with volleyball equipment they brought on board had to leave because someone puked in the pool (presumably one of them), they proceeded to take their operation to the back of the ship to the Tides pool, taking it over and resumed their game despite staff passively saying that's not allowed, but doing nothing else. 10 minutes later, there's puke in that pool and it had to be shut down. So now, here we are in the early afternoon on a sea day with 80 degree temps and no pool to enjoy because ship staff failed to intervene with these obviously intoxicated people. Several people complained to guest services, including a platinum member that was with us, but to no avail. We were offered a couple of drinks and a dinner upgrade, but there was little to no acknowledgement that we lost about 1/2 day of our cruise because we could no longer enjoy a pool anywhere on the ship due to a failure on the part of ship staff. They did admit they failed, but said it was against their "policy" to reimburse passengers for these inconveniences (several of us requested that Carnival credit our stateroom accounts the equivalent of 1/2 day of our cruise fare to compensate us for having no available pools for half of a sea day). One of the most disappointing things was that one of the passengers who went to guest services with us on this issue was a Carnival Platinum member, Carnival shareholder, has spent close to $100,000 cruising with Carnival and was treated as if they were a first time cruiser. I felt sick for them and their brand loyalty (which I think is over). Earlier that day, I had already been to guest services to complain that the ship's exhaust was peppering the Tides pool area with black and rusty soot from the engines. It ruined several shirts of people in our group as well as the drinks we were holding. Carnival did pay for the ruined clothing after a failed laundering attempt. 17/18 cruises, never seen that happen with soot raining down. There were a few bright spots on this cruise, however. The Red Frog Pub was a great hangout spot. Never too crowded, great staff, and great food and drinks. Dining staff was hardworking and went above and beyond every night. I wouldn't recommend paying the $20 extra for the 555° Steakhouse upgrades. The lobster we ordered was way overcooked (the steamed lobster on lobster night is better) and the filet was mediocre. Definitely not worth the $20 upgrade and most definitely not worth the $35 pp fee to have dinner in the steakhouse. The 24/7 pizza and Guy's burger joint were awesome. The lines prove that is a very popular feature. Our stateroom was average, but there was something next door in a service area that sounded like metal creaking really loud whenever the ship was moving, and it would go on all night long. This was loud enough to disrupt our sleep. If you are considering going on this ship, I would avoid stateroom #2367 for this reason. Overall, Carnival has again proven to me they are the "Walmart of the waves". I'm actually kind of embarrassed to say I've cruised with them as often as I have, but no more, especially having seen how they treat their top tier members. Ouch. Read Less

They called this their "flagship". The food was horrible! Not ONE meal was anything above average. The "prime" rib was anything but.... The filet mignon tasted like a sirloin cut in a round puck...the shrimp cocktail was cocktail shrimp...far from jumbo...lobster tails were tiny and tasteless. On deck..there were more cushions with rips and tears than not. The crew did NOTHING to enforce their rules!! Kids frequented the serenity (21 and over) deck. People were allowed to throw a towel or other item on chairs thereby "reserving" them and no crew member EVER checked them. There is NO pool for adults...so if You want to swim it is with children..NO THANKS!! This ship felt dirty as soon as We boarded. The carpets look dirty and worn. There was a creaking in our stateroom that kept waking My Wife up...the informational channel on the tv didn't work half the time..There is NO WOW FACTOR ON THIS SHIP!! NONE! This was our 4th Cruise...the 2nd AND LAST with Carnival...they let us down..there is nothing worse than feeling You WASTED THOUSANDS on a vacation!! Read Less

I choose this cruise to see if Carnival upped the game with their new ship the Vista, since I read so much about it. The ONLY asset the Vista has is Matt the cruise director. He was entertaining, engaging, pleasant and made everyone feel like family. Our cabin was dirty upon arrival. It took an hour just to get into terminal D building, embarkation was a nightmare!!!! I asked our steward the first day for a bucket of ice, needless to say I did not see him or the bucket of ice the rest of the cruise. My time dining was a joke, we had to go to deck 5 to stand in line and ask for a reservation, in which we were handed a beeper and had to wait for a table. Every day you had to repeat this process to go to Horizons Restaurant. Service was slow in the dining room, the buffet had the same hum drum tasteless food, so we ate pizza every night, Carnival is NOT cheap unless you cruise one of those old battleship looking ships like the Sensation!!! Carnival needs at least change the color of the decor from ship to ship!! NOT worth the money!! Read Less

This was our third cruise with Carnival. Normally, we are a loyal Royal Caribbean customer, but this cruise was organized by a friend and it was over New Year's Eve so thought it would be fun. Unfortunately, this was anything but a "Funship." The bar staff with the exception of two people were very unfriendly. Almost made you feel like it was an imposition to ask for a drink. The food was okay, but definitely not up to normal standards. The dining staff was very friendly and attentive. It was apparent that there has been a cutback in the number of staff, as dishes were piling up everywhere and the two formal nights were absolute chaos. Again, not the fault of the staff, but put the blame on management. The entertainment which Carnival is known for was less than enjoyable. Poor singing and an equally poor layout of the Liquid Lounge. You couldn't see the stage very well no matter where you were on the main floor or in the balcony. The Casino was unbearable to be in or even walk through. The smoke was thick. For a brand new ship to not have a better ventilation system is inexcusable. When you see young adults walking through with their shirts pulled above their noses, you know it is bad. The cabin was very nice and the Cabin Attendant was good. The embarkation process was phenomenal. Kudos in that department! Really enjoyed the piano bar and the Red Frog Brewery. Unfortunately, this will be our last Carnival cruise. Back to Royal Caribbean. We booked this cruise 2 years ago with 36 friends and family members coming along with us. I am a gold member for Carnival and this was my 5th cruise with Carnival and definitely will be my last cruise. The good points would be the staff in the dinning room and the housekeeping crew they were nice and did a great job and the food at Guys burgers and the Cantina was very good. The rest was pretty much not worth the money we paid, the food in the dinning room and buffet was horrible and even the pizza had no flavor. The ice cream was good but the strawberry tasted like frozen strawberry quick. The Serenity deck was crowded and basically there was never anywhere to sit or lay up there and the same was pretty much true for the pools. The private area " the Havana Deck" takes up way to much of the ship and takes away views from Balcony rooms and end of the ship view, who wants to walk out on their balcony and see people in the hot tub, I want to see the sunset not some guy in a speedo thanks. The sky bikes were hardly open and you have to pay extra for everything. The movies and thrill rides are extra and you even had to pay to be in the beer pong tournament seriously you pay enough for the cruise and they boast about their Imax theater and then you can only enjoy it if you pay extra. They don't have a designated night club so they are all over the ship one night in the liquid lounge one night in the lime lite theater neither which are set up well. The crew get the deck parties going then disappear so they fizzle out quickly so there isn't much nightlife unless you want to shop at their overpriced stores or lose money in the casino even the shows that the ship puts on were so bad guests walked out in the middle of the show, and when one guest asked what he would do if he won the $3,000.00 prize money for bingo he said "I would buy a ticket on Royal Caribbean" that should tell you something right there. I read numerous negative reviews before sailing and I tried to ignore them because I've always had the opinion of "you're on vacation, how can you have a bad cruise?". I honestly should have listened. I really wanted to love this ship but I really regret spending my money. EMBARKATION: we had an 11:30 time and arrived around 11:15. We had a suite so walked around the terminal for priority boarding. It didn't take long but we had numerous people confused about where we were supposed to go. It was a little unorganized. We were on the ship by 11:45 and went straight to our room. Room had not been finished but we were able to drop our stuff off and go get something to eat. SHIP: there are simply just too many people on this ship. Everything we wanted to do there was a line for. We were fine with taking the stairs if elevators were full or if it was a couple floors but at one point we waited 15 minutes for an elevator and ended up taking 7 flights of stairs because we could never get one. The elevator situation is awful. Casino is half the size of other ships and although the IMAX and thrill theater are really cool, I think it takes up too much space. They pretty much cut the size of areas in half to make room for extra cabins. There are not enough crew to manage this many people. Drinks take forever and wait times for anything are unacceptable. Never got a chance to do the sky ride or water slides because of this. There are also multiple areas of the ship that smell like sewage. DINING: Skip the buffet. They like to close sides while there are people already in line and make you walk to the end of the line on the other side. Choices are slim pickings and there are way too many people. Guys burgers are always good and thankfully that line moves quickly. Wanted to try the BBQ but the line was wrapped around the ship because it's only open two and a half hours on sea days. Steakhouse was okay, not impressed with the selections. Main dining room was SLOW. Be prepared to take an hour and a half if not longer to eat. There were only two of us which I think is absurd. Salad bar on serenity wasn't that great either, went twice and both times most of the toppings were empty. Very small selection of dressings as well. EXCURSIONS: Did the Jeep De Palm tour in Aruba. It was a good excursion but the Ostrich Farm was really cheesy. The guide tried too hard to be funny. In Bonaire we did the Mushi Mushi sail and snorkel. We really enjoyed this. They are great at what they do. In Curacao we took a $20 each way cab ride to Mambo Beach. You then pay $3.50 for a chair. This place is nice but gets very busy. In Miami we did the Everglades air boat tour. DO NOT take this tour. The bus is cramped and you have an hour and a half drive from the park to the airport where they drop you off on the international side of the terminal. We had to walk a mile to American Airlines. It was not worth the money. ITINERARY: They switched our schedule from Grand Turk, St. Maarten, St. Kitts and San Juan to Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. We were not impressed with Aruba. Bonaire was beautiful. Curacao was okay. Overall, there are way better ships. I was so excited about this cruise and unfortunately i was very disappointed. Also, CHECK YOUR SAIL AND SIGN ACCOUNTS. We had to dispute 2 different charges we didn't authorize. Read Less

We have sailed many times on Carnival, but have been sailing other cruise lines, recently, for a change. We chose this cruise because it was a chance to try out the new Carnival Vista while going to our favorite island, St. Martin. Well, that didn't happen, due to Irma, so our itinerary was changed. Still, we got to see Carnival's new Flagship. We were not only unimpressed, but depressed. Carnival is sticking to it's policy of sticking more and more people on their new ships, while keeping common areas to a minimum. Generally, these areas (lounges, showrooms, casino) were too small for the amount of people they place on the ship. Timing of shows was difficult, too. The "Welcome Aboard" show was one time only at 9:00. Our 8:15 dining time wouldn't allow us to go, or I suppose Carnival expected us to skip meeting our dining team on our first night to see their show. We never made it to the late comedy show. We would rush to the lounge for the 9:30 show after dinner, to be told that the room was full and no one else could enter. Several of us in late dining had this same complaint. I would strongly suggest that future cruisers stick to early or anytime dining, as the late dining will keep you from most of the shows. The casino was cramped to the point that the one poker table was placed in the sports bar, and we were always fighting for a seat at one of only two low denomination blackjack tables. The promenade and mezzanine decks were tight. I miss the grand atriums, spacious promenades, and glass elevators. Carnival seems to be leaving those amenities to other cruise lines. The sports deck was nice. Mini golf was fun, and they had outdoor pool tables and foosball. They had a high ropes course and a skyride monorail, although we didn't get to try it out because the line was always 2 hours long. It looked like fun if you're more patient than we are. Crew was exemplary. Our waitstaff in the dining room was the best we've ever had and food was wonderful. Guy's hamburgers and barbeque were great! Best food ever! We never met a crewman anywhere on the ship who wasn't as friendly as can be. The entertainment (brass trio, string trio, and singing duet) were very good. The shows that we did see were generally good. After taking the time to reflect on how our cruise went. We would mostly likely sail on Carnival again, albeit on one of their older, more spacious ships. The Carnival crew was wonderful and we figured that should be the same on other Carnival ships. We definitely will not sail on the Carnival Vista ever again. The ship is a bad design. I suppose if you are lucky enough or wealthy enough to score a Havana cabin, you might like it. Most of the pax we visited did not like the cramped layout of the new ship or it's lounges. Read Less

As far as the ship itself it was a disappointment they made the ship bigger but all the common areas were smaller, the elevator situation was a nightmare,my husband is in a mobility scooter and there were times we waited 20 minutes to get into an elevator, people are so,rude they see you waiting and scoot right in front of you to get into the elevator. If it wasn't for Matt and Cookie the trip, would've been a total disaster. Ship design is just ok, not wow by any means. Atrium is smaller, rooms are def smaller. Layout is a little confusing because of the Imax I think. Sky ride was cool but wait was 90 minutes to 2 hours. They could have used a couple more bikes up there to speed it along, plus was closed on last sea day so only 3 of us in a group of 25 were able to do it. My biggest disappointment was the customer service, which we feel has been continually declining. They kept calling this their Flag Ship but you wouldn't know it by the service. Not the friendly out going staff of cruises past. The dining room is really declining. Food quality was horrible, grizzly tough meat, mushy lobster, etc. The wait staff didn't check back once food was dropped and dinner service took forever. Both times we went the lights came on before we were done eating We only went to main dining room 2 nights and then gave up. Also all the restaurants kept the same hours as smaller ships even though this had an extra 1000 capacity, so getting food without long lines was difficult. I will never understand why the only thing to eat between 3 and 5 is pizza. When everyone comes in from port and wants to eat, very little options. And again, if you have a thousand person more capacity, you should provide for that. Even the Seafood shack which was a pay restaurant took forever, 40 minutes for fish and chips and lobster. Embarkation was a bit different, keys were in the mailbox, but we were super confused on how it worked and no one explained anything. Disembarkation was a Hot Mess, they were letting the people without luggage go at the same time that the walk offs were going and as per usual, when the cruise is over, you are a second class citizen! Def wouldn't sail this ship again! Read Less

Been on 3 previous cruises because my girlfriend and I like the amount of travel to cost. Over crowded boat, so get ready for lines everywhere. Staff is not trained in service or etiquette except for a few (Alchemy Bar). Food is mediocre at best. Comedy shows were good. Stage shows were not. Cruise director Excellent. Out of 18 people, 9 are still sick out of our group. Rooms were average. Havana area is worth the money just to get away from crowds although, they need to police it better. A gentlemen fell on deck. It took 20 minutes for boat to respond and without a plan. Not to mention 85% of the ships crew has no manners ( I know I previously referenced) Overall, it seems in my humble opinion, carnival tried to push a boat out with as much revenue as they can generate (by the number of people) without focusing on training and procedures to run the ship correctly. Maybe a trip on Celebrity can give them a few pointers. Read Less

We have been on many Carnival Cruises and love their boats and service. That being said this is the worst cruise we had ever been on. It was like they cut down on everything to save money. The AC on the boat hardly worked especially in our room. The food was poor and they closed the buffet often even when there were lines. They made a larger boat just to add more people. They didn't account for the addition of people in any other area...They did not add any additional hot tubs and pools for people to be able to use and most of the time they were packed with unsupervised kids. We traveled with our kids (13 and 4) and they loved the camps and my oldest loved the ropes and bike but you stood in line for 2 hours to go on them. They added a ton of things you have to pay extra for after already paying a ton to go on the cruise. They didn't have enough bartenders or servers so you waited an average of 15 minutes at a bar for a drink and even longer in the dining room for a glass of wine... Our waitstaff were not personable at all until the last couple days because they were so busy they couldn't even find out our names... We of course loved the comedy club but they cut down on the shows so unless you were in line an hour before it started you didn't get a seat. The stage shows were great but the stage seating was set up so awful. There are literally 100 seats you can sit in and not see a single part of the show. You would see everyone sitting down and then moving seats to try to find one they could see from. Definitely would not be a boat we would go on again. The wait staff were so overworked they were not friendly and the boat is brand new and looks so dirty. There would be spilled food on the stairs that would be there all day long... Read Less

It seems that Carnival has built a big ship but understaffed it and did not allow any extra amenities. Still only 4 buffet lines and the dining room that we ate in only held 700 people and was a single story. When we spoke to the Maitre de Ken he didn't like the ship and was transferring to the Pride. In fact of all the staff I spoke with NOT ONE LIKED THE .CARNIVAL VISTA. He also shared that there were more people on anytime dining then scheduled because of the dining room size.. Multiple times there were tables full of dirty dishes and well as messes on the floor. We rode an elevator that Fruit Loops were split. Two hours later we rode the same elevator and the mess was still there. On another night someone had gotten sick in an elevator and we had the same experience as with the Fruit Loops 2 hours still there. I took pictures and posted them to the Carnival facebook page which resulted in the same pictures sent to the ship. I did receive a call from the guest services manager to apologize but the situation did not get better. The wait staff had between 30 and 40 guests to serve. It definitely wasn't a dining experience just a hurry up, serve and move on. Never had I seen 2 entrees put on the table in front of the same person but it happened nightly on this cruise. It didn't have the Carnival feel everything was very closed in and was very plain. Carnival, trying to keep up with the other lines Mega Ships, has failed to adequately provide the same level of service to their guest nor have they increased the dining options to be able to handle the increased guest totals. There were 4887 people on the Vista this sailing. More cabins more alternate pay dining options but the regular amenities have been over looked. I have a lot to compare to as I have been on 24 cruises and an Platinum with Carnival. The theatre held less people then it could serve on the boat for the shows. I love Carnival.but hate the direction they took this ship. Read Less
