Been on 3 previous cruises because my girlfriend and I like the amount of travel to cost. Over crowded boat, so get ready for lines everywhere. Staff is not trained in service or etiquette except for a few (Alchemy Bar). Food is mediocre at best. Comedy shows were good. Stage shows were not. Cruise director Excellent. Out of 18 people, 9 are still sick out of our group. Rooms were average. Havana area is worth the money just to get away from crowds although, they need to police it better. A gentlemen fell on deck. It took 20 minutes for boat to respond and without a plan. Not to mention 85% of the ships crew has no manners ( I know I previously referenced) Overall, it seems in my humble opinion, carnival tried to push a boat out with as much revenue as they can generate (by the number of people) without focusing on training and procedures to run the ship correctly. Maybe a trip on Celebrity can give them a few pointers. Read Less

We have been on many Carnival Cruises and love their boats and service. That being said this is the worst cruise we had ever been on. It was like they cut down on everything to save money. The AC on the boat hardly worked especially in our room. The food was poor and they closed the buffet often even when there were lines. They made a larger boat just to add more people. They didn't account for the addition of people in any other area...They did not add any additional hot tubs and pools for people to be able to use and most of the time they were packed with unsupervised kids. We traveled with our kids (13 and 4) and they loved the camps and my oldest loved the ropes and bike but you stood in line for 2 hours to go on them. They added a ton of things you have to pay extra for after already paying a ton to go on the cruise. They didn't have enough bartenders or servers so you waited an average of 15 minutes at a bar for a drink and even longer in the dining room for a glass of wine... Our waitstaff were not personable at all until the last couple days because they were so busy they couldn't even find out our names... We of course loved the comedy club but they cut down on the shows so unless you were in line an hour before it started you didn't get a seat. The stage shows were great but the stage seating was set up so awful. There are literally 100 seats you can sit in and not see a single part of the show. You would see everyone sitting down and then moving seats to try to find one they could see from. Definitely would not be a boat we would go on again. The wait staff were so overworked they were not friendly and the boat is brand new and looks so dirty. There would be spilled food on the stairs that would be there all day long... Read Less

This was the first cruise our family has ever been on. So, we had nothing to compare the boat to. That being said, we did a lot of research and hoped that Carnival Vista would live up to our expectations. And it did! We have always thought that we would not enjoy cruising. After the first day, we still felt that way. There were a lot of people on this boat and there were lines for food and activities at peak times. However, we learned when to visit places and avoid lines, which greatly improved our trip. We were at breakfast in the buffet every morning by 7:30/8am and it was practically empty. Then the grown-ups would head to the Tides Pool, while the kids went to the ropes course. By 11am, the crowds were moving in and we would grab an early lunch. In the afternoon our kids and their cousins (ages 10-12) would head to the library to play games, watch a movie, visit the arcade or kids clubs. We opted for an early dinner every night (5:30 seating). By the time we finished, the majority of people were just starting to have dinner. So, we would head to the Havana Club pools and hot tubs (open to the public at 7pm) or catch an 8pm show or poolside movie. The Havana Club was practically empty at night and it was beautiful to watch the stars from the back of the boat, while sitting in one of the hot tubs. The food on the boat was decent but not outstanding. The main dining room food was decent. Probably the best food was at Guys Burger bar. We also enjoyed breakfast at Blue Iguana or lunch at Cucina del Capitano or Fat Jimmy's BBQ (which are both free at lunch). We did pay a little extra and enjoyed dinner at Bonsai Sushi one night. The sky ride on this boat is amazing. The waterslides were a lot of fun and our kids did the ropes course multiple times every day. We also took the kids to the thrill theater, which they all enjoyed. My husband and I watched one movie in the Imax and there was hardly anyone else there! The movie theater is one of the few places, if not the only place, that offers fountain sodas. So, if you get the soda package, you can get a drink at the theater, even if you aren't watching a movie. This ship is very clean. It's colorful, nicely decorated and overall organized very well. We would highly recommend this ship to anyone! Our kids under 12 but we will definitely try to get a Havana Stateroom when our youngest is 12! Read Less

We got a great deal sailing on Vista this past December from Miami. We traveled with 3 boys ages 2, 3, & 4, our nephews ages 11 & 13, brother and sister in law, and grandma and grandpa. We all stayed in balcony rooms, on levels 9 and 11. The first night the seas were choppy and you could really feel the boat sway on deck 11. Our 4 year old vomited all over the bed -yay- but the cabin steward cleaned it up without complaints. The balcony rooms were roomy, even with a crib tucked in the corner. The staff was great - can't imagine having to work on a ship for 9 months straight. Most everyone was friendly and willing to help. Nikola, Milosh, and the wait staff at table 750 for anytime dining are wonderful. Always had a smile on their face and genuinely seemed happy to see us every night. The cruise director Matt is hilarious, the shows were pretty good, the little shops in the atrium were nice, they even have a library with board games to keep everyone entertained. We sent our 3 young boys to camp carnival everyday. They give cell phones to families with kids ages 2-5 in case they need to get in touch with you. They never called. The staff was friendly and were great with my clingy 2 year old. But that phone felt like a ticking time bomb, you people with young kids know what I'm talking about! You never know what could happen to kids in day care, bloody nose, fighting, vomit... I tried the sky bike once, the wait time for it can be long, up to 1.5 hours on a busy day. Wait til the ship is about to pull into the port of call, that's the best time to go. The water slides were fun, the pools weren't crowded, and we loved playing ping pong in their game room on deck 12. As with any cruise ship line, the excursions through the ship are always way overpriced. Everytime we've cruised, we always explore the port on our own. Tons of taxis and independent tour companies are available to show you a good time for half of what the ship charges. My only complaint is the food on the ship was only ok. It was always standard American fare. The pizza, taco/burrito place, and Guys burgers were pretty good. Read Less

Very unsatisfied with this cruise. As a frequent cruiser, and more specifically Carnival brand, this Cruise was far below expectations. As a part of the gold VIFP club, traveling on 7 Carnival ships in the past, this will be my last without a doubt. By far the worst part of this cruise was the other passengers. Not only were they mostly children, but they were RUDE. I have never met a grouping of so many people with so little manners. I guess it makes sense though because the adults on board were just a bad. People would bump into you, push you out of their way, not say excuse me. I watched several people (both adults and children) use the public restrooms and leave without washing their hands. I heard people puking their guts out in the bathroom next to the pool, and then watched said person jump into the beach pool like any other ordinary day. Then there was dinner in the main dining room. We had the anytime dining. What a NIGHTMARE. I will admit, it was not as bad the last few nights, but the first 4-5 nights on board, we had to stand in line for 15 minutes, and it was HOT. Either there was no A/c, or the heat from the "pixels" gallery radiated the entire hallway. Once checked in, we had to proceed to deck 3 or 4, from 5, turn in our ticket and then we could be sat. Granted it was a new ship, and new crew, but we were showing the table presenters where our table was before they walked us around the dinning room 3 times. And then back to the other people... From what I understand from past cruises, there is a dining room dress code? NOT ANYMORE. Guests were eating dinner in baseball caps, shorts, sandals, sleeveless shirts, pants with holes in them. etc. I wish I could say this was just on "cruise casual" nights, but nope. Guests were actually wearing jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers on "CRUISE ELEGANT" this really set me off. The Dining room staff were very friendly and polite and the food was alright. Although we had anytime dinning, we requested the same servers, Jessen and Adrijan. They were the only reasons I went to eat in the dinning room for dinner, instead of the other options. If the wait staff can wear a vest a tie to serve you, the people under dressed should have been denied entry for dinner. Our cabin was great! our steward, Leonard, was VERY friendly and polite. However, we had a Spa Balcony, and you guessed it. More problems! When booked in a Spa Balcony, we were supposed to have exclusive access to the Thermal Suites (steam rooms, dry rooms, and whirlpool tub in the spa.) However, since carnival stands to make money wherever they can, they sell "spa day passes" WHAT A JOKE. we paid extra for the cabin, to use the thermal suites, and because the spa sold what seems like an endless amount of day passes, there was almost no way to have a relaxing, enjoyable experience in the spa. The amount of people they let in is just short of ridiculous. And even without the spa pass, people can mosey their way into the thermal suites. It is true the door locks and you swipe your sail and sign card for entry, but it stays open for about 10-15 seconds and anyone can just walk right in! there is no one that asks to see the wristband or day pass. On more than one occasion, the Whirlpool (that fits 10 people or so) was filled to capacity, and none of the occupants had any type of wristband. The bars! We had the CHEERS package. It would have been great if we could actually get a beverage when we wanted. The bars were packed, and the bartenders could not have been moving any slower. For the amount of people sitting in front of them, they lacked an incredible sense of urgency. It took almost 20 minutes to get waited on and served our beverages. Even a soda. If there was more than one person sitting at the bar, the bartender would take one persons drink, not even acknowledge any other occupant at the bar, proceed to make the first beverage and cash them out, then move onto the other guests. you could be sitting there for 10 minutes without a "hello! I will be with you shortly." This was mostly prevalent at the Red Frog bar on the Lido Deck by the beach pool. On port days, I attempted to get a bottle of water from the casino bar, and atrium bar before I left for the ports. They refused service because "we don't start serving until 9 and 11" (9 for casino, 11 for atrium.) Talk about bogus. I can understand not serving alcohol until a certain time, but they should encourage people to drink water. There was only a few times I was impressed with the bar service, and that was from Jaya, at the Blue Iguana. He was very friendly and polite, and it felt like he was the only one that actually enjoyed working there. Compared to the rest of my experiences with the bartenders, his attitude was phenomenal. The food was good, the dining room was a fine dining experience, and presented well. The desserts were sub par. and lacked a few of the traditional options I would have expected (cherries jubilee baked alaska.) they did have the carnival melting cake every night. Oh boy. I did not get a chance to try the pizza in the tides pool area. the line wrapped around the deck, mostly at night (because it is the only food option other than room service) however even in the day it could take 20 minutes or more standing in line for a slice of pizza. The Lido buffet was just as bad. We ate the buffet for breakfast only once. but the lines were "out the door" as with for lunch, with 4 different lines, it took almost a half an hour before we even got to the food. From what I remember in the past, the Lido buffet desserts were garbage this time around. there were less variety, and they did not taste like I remember. We ordered Room service a few times, it was delivered in a timely manner, and the food was good. It was mostly sandwiches and salads. We ordered buffalo wings for $5 extra. Not worth it. There were 8 wings, and they tasted alright. but they definitely were not buffalo. The Javablue cafe was nice, however the location was terrible. It was in the back of the ship on deck 5, between a bar, the ocean plaza, and pixels gallery. A better place would have been in the atrium, or around it, or even the Lido deck. The Coffee was good, the ingredients tasted fresh, and "java joe" had a great attitude. All in all, We made the most of our vacation. However all things considered, If given the opportunity, I would not travel carnival again. It is unfortunate that being a dedicated past member this is the carnival cruise that will stand out the most, for all the wrong reasons. I now can see why Carnival is dubbed the "Walmart of cruises." -Disgruntled traveler. Read Less

It seems that Carnival has built a big ship but understaffed it and did not allow any extra amenities. Still only 4 buffet lines and the dining room that we ate in only held 700 people and was a single story. When we spoke to the Maitre de Ken he didn't like the ship and was transferring to the Pride. In fact of all the staff I spoke with NOT ONE LIKED THE .CARNIVAL VISTA. He also shared that there were more people on anytime dining then scheduled because of the dining room size.. Multiple times there were tables full of dirty dishes and well as messes on the floor. We rode an elevator that Fruit Loops were split. Two hours later we rode the same elevator and the mess was still there. On another night someone had gotten sick in an elevator and we had the same experience as with the Fruit Loops 2 hours still there. I took pictures and posted them to the Carnival facebook page which resulted in the same pictures sent to the ship. I did receive a call from the guest services manager to apologize but the situation did not get better. The wait staff had between 30 and 40 guests to serve. It definitely wasn't a dining experience just a hurry up, serve and move on. Never had I seen 2 entrees put on the table in front of the same person but it happened nightly on this cruise. It didn't have the Carnival feel everything was very closed in and was very plain. Carnival, trying to keep up with the other lines Mega Ships, has failed to adequately provide the same level of service to their guest nor have they increased the dining options to be able to handle the increased guest totals. There were 4887 people on the Vista this sailing. More cabins more alternate pay dining options but the regular amenities have been over looked. I have a lot to compare to as I have been on 24 cruises and an Platinum with Carnival. The theatre held less people then it could serve on the boat for the shows. I love Carnival.but hate the direction they took this ship. Read Less

5 of 8 days was terrible. I wrote the president and CFO Mr. Donald 2ce with no response. HE DOESN'T care about you. I wrote customer service 2ce. They DON'T care about you. LET THE BUYER BEWARE..... If you buy the lowest price, you're going to be disappointed..... There is definitely a lack of communication aboard the ship. It operates under extreme confusion. I'll never take another one with this cruise line again. Day 1 was so confusing. We went to orientation and was asked if we had special needs. It's best not to say yes because you will be told to leave the orientation about 5 minutes early. After you get up and are at the door, you'll be called out by the cruise director and told you can't leave. When you ask another crew member why they had you get up in the 1st place, they will tell you to leave. That's just the beginning of one of the most confusing cruises I've ever taken. Also if you need a cane you'll be told there's a 50.00 Fee associated with it for cane rental. Well that's completely FALSE. There is no charge... Just a 40.00 deposit. If you smoke cigars the booking agent will flat out LIE to you and share there's 3 cigar bars on board and there's not even 1. Also the internet you have to pay 30.00 to use will malfunction. This is all in the 1st day...Day's 2 - 5 were just as sad but I think you'll get the picture. Also you may just get stranded on an island somewhere because the printed material doesn't match the real time for embarkation and debarkation. We barely boarded the ship in Puerto Rico and Carnival left 4 people stranded and they had more than enough time to let them board. The people were right at the embarkation gate and the crew pulled up the ramp without letting them walk 100 feet. I don't know if they were related or not but I do know they weren't back on the ship. And I told security but they could care less. They acted as if I was talking to a brick wall. I do hope that family is reading my review and asks me to testify for them when they sue for damages. I'll GLADLY do it...WORST Customer care Anywhere... Read Less

I wanted to go on the newest carnival ship. getting on the ship was easy , getting to our room and out bags were waiting on us at 11:30am . first impression , was the ship looked dirty and not brand new . stains in the carpet and outside decks had dirty floors and dirty glass. not a big issue to me . all the public areas are SMALLER , lido area is smaller and has less lounge chairs , water works is slightly smaller than the magic. the main show lounge is a disaster , first the seats are not theater seating so you will have a problem seeing over peoples heads , and all the seats are jammed together as so you cant get out of your seat without having the whole row stand up and let you out . total mess . and its half the size of the magic , or dream , of breeze or liberty ETC. ETC. it seats very few people for a ship that large . it you don't get there 30 minutes early and stand in a long line in the hallway . you will be lucky to get a seat and wont be able to see over the heads in front of you. comedy club is the same thing , half the size of the other ships and a lot of the seating is on stools , yes stools . way too small for a ship this size . everything seems to be made smaller , the ship feels very cramped and feels VERY crowded . lines everywhere , lido had huge lines daily , forget going to the breakfast buffet unless you want to stand in a 30 minute plus line , pizza same thing , guys burgers not as bad but still a long line . only 2 hot tubs in the general area . and it was always full of kids with goggles and snorkels , serenity deck also had 2 hot tubs and the whole area was very crowded . i tried to ride the sky cycle , but the lines during the short time it was open was always 1 1/2 hour plus . staff was all very nice and very friendly with the exception of the sports area workers . they seemed to have an attitude . my advice is don't go on this ship in peak season of holidays . its not designed well to handle the extra crowds . Nice new ship, large, but crowds well handled and dispersed. Would not recommend Your Time dining due to wait during peak times. Crew is still learning, not as service friendly as other carnival ships due to inexperience. Cabin steward was fabulous. LCD feature was beautiful. Smoke in casino well maintained thanks to acrylic panels that block smoke from going to Promenade deck. Great waterpark for the kids. Overall, impressed and would sail her again. Embarkation was crowded but we managed to get through quickly due to one in my travel party needed a wheelchair. Matt Mitchum was great, as usual, really knew how to get the party started. Essencia, violinists who played in the Atrium lobby also very talented. Family harbor was a nice area to stay in as a cappucino in the morning was only a few steps away. My DD also loved the video games and quick access to chocolate milk. Havana area had good spanish dance music at night. Read Less

I chose this ship because it is Carnivals newest in 4 years. I have not been on Carnival since our trip on the BREEZE when she was new, ( which we loved). We thought that this would be an enhancement of the Breeze, judging by the promos. We booked spa balcony cabins, as we did on Breeze, but we were very disappointed in the Spa on this ship. They advertised a Thallosotherapy pool...and what was there was just a large hot tub, not nearly large enough for this size ship and could only fit around 5 people in at a time. Also, even though we paid extra for Spa access, with our category booked, 8S, there always seemed to be day passes taking up all of the small space. The spa/thermal suites area was very small and was always crowded. We hardly had a chance to use it. Please limit the day passes.... The ship was nice, LARGE and decorated nicely for the holidays. Many Carnival fans will be disappointed that there is no central atrium or main lobby areas, but rather a small lobby bar area that was very crowed when Matt the cruise director (the best thing about the ship!) was there "performing" . Matt was the most entertaining cruise director I have seen in a long time. He is great at ad libbing and is quite hilarious....however, that is about all I can say for the cruise directors staff, because I really did not see or hear of any others...?! There were the typical activities throughout the day...lots of trivia, art auctions, kids things and of course the hairy chest contest....but Twice in one week? .. really? The announcements and information was also incorrect at times ,... and confusing. For example; the second "elegant night" was announced as white night AND elegant night Also NO shopping or PORT maps in Fun times the night before port and NONE on gangway...unless you left ship in the first hour! They do NOT leave any on the gangway. The tv had a lot of Carnival channels but we could not find any events re playing on the tv, like we usually see...... Love and marriage show, Hasbro game show, pool games, except debarkation talk. The elevators are small HOT and slow. Only one goes to deck 15, serenity deck....horrible. The pool has a great large screen tv and only showed the '\"aquarium loop" the entire trip in the day time. NOT one concert or documentary, as we usually like with these large screens. Dive in movies were ok. Weather was not too great for them....We did not use the IMAX/ Thrill theater, although it is a nice feature. The Limelight lounge is the focus of the comedians on board. One of my favorite things on a ship. The first guy was just one obscenity/insult after another; which is not my particular taste. New comedians come on board mid week and the female one was very funny. I did not get to see the rest of the shows for various reasons, mostly conflicting times with other activities. One thing that could be improved on,...maybe stagger the show times or space them apart more, instead of back to back. Then they would not have to clear the room after each show, and more people could enjoy the shows. The entertainers/Playlist Productions are ok. Good singing and lots of energy. Choreography... only average...It would be nice to have one large Production show per week, on board, in my opinion. We went two or 3 times, but then it was the same show each night, just with a different theme. The main theater (Liquid Lounge) is tiny for this large ship and doubles as the nightly "club" venue after 11. Makes no sense to me at all. I spent more time in the Casino! I will say this was one of the first cruises where I did VERY well almost every night in Casino. But a big complaint....only one crap table for a ship this size...and it was packed almost every night. The food was good and plentiful throughout, as typical on cruise ships. Our service was very good. The "your time dining" arrangement does not make sense. You are to check in at deck 5 and then proceed to deck 3 or 4 for your table. It is a lot of unnecessary walking. If you did decide to dress up and maybe where some heels, it would be so much more difficult...but on this ship, the dress code was very casual. We saw more T shirts, shorts and flip flops in main dining room than ever. There are 2 elegant nights and about 50% of passengers dressed up. My favorite eating spot was Blue Iquana cantina for lunch AND breakfast... and the Sea Days BBQ....Guys burgers are still good......Pizza was a joke. Always a line...too long to wait and not necessary. Just put an extra person there and serve the pizza. We waited as he took 8-9 pies out of the oven proceeded to slice them ALL before serving and then gave out whole pies to young kids, while many people in line then had to wait for new bakes 25 minutes for pizza slice......made NO sense at all. The ships staff in general was accommodating but really seemed quite indifferent, when I did have some questions at guest services... I asked about comment cards and was told they were now paperless. I had some concerns, and she did not seem to care. I was not WOWED by any means on this cruise. It was just ok. Would I go again, most likely NO. I am pretty much over Carnival at this point. Cutting way too many corners. It is still a good option for families with younger children. It seems as if they are going after quantity, rather than quality. No table cloths in the main dining room is a big disappointment also. That sets the tone for your dining experience, and as I mentioned before; it turned out to be a very casual tone. No visits from Maitre D' to the table all week, even thought they were visible with their IPADS trying to arrange seating. They do not enforce the dining dress code at all. That coupled with the bare tables,it was not the cruise dining experience that I am used to. I did not really utilize the buffet, except for breakfast. Long line for omelettes/eggs; As with the rest of the ship, it was just ok. There was soft serve available all week but their "homemade" ice cream machine was broken this week... The ports were nice. Always love St. Maarten for shopping and beach. San Juan was enjoyable. It was my firs time there. We walked around the "old San Juan" and explored the forts and castles... Really fun. There is a free trolley available, but we chose to walk off some calories. Not a hard or bad walk at all. There are many local artists selling their jewelry very reasonable prices. Grand Turk...(my first time there also) was a disappointment as well. 2 Carnival ships in port, Ours was late to debark and NO loungers available.. So many rude seat savers and people never showed up. Margaritaville was very popular and crowded and the pool is nice, but welcome to Spring Break all over again....I was looking forward to a nice quiet beach day........The ship docks right next to the beach., no tendering or transportation needed. I would guess I could have walked down the beach a ways, for a quiet spot, but I did not attempt it. Shopped a little and back to the ship. I rated the trip as 3 star average because I believe there is not bad cruise....just some are better than other. We sail about 3 times per year. This was definitely NOT one of my favorite cruises and In this case, there are many are better choices, in my opinion...... I sailed with my husband ( 59) and my son (23) who has not cruised since age 16 and always previously on Carnival, and his girlfriend (23). Her first cruise. Hope they work out the problems....in the meantime; happy sailing. Read Less

We were a party of 4. Grandparents with teenagers. Flew into Miami stayed at Sheraton near port. Getting to ship was easy and boarding went smoothly. We had a balcony room. Which was beautiful. Even with two teens it was nice. Large TV, comfortable beds. Room Stewart very attentive. We had anytime dining. This was only negative for me. Perhaps it was because we were a party of four. We were being placed next to service areas. It took a long time for service. Some people complained they were missing shows because of wait. I mentioned this to Matre D and they began to move us nearer to window. This helped some. We dined in Steakhouse (our favorite) and the Italian restaurant, which was ok, kids liked. I'm not a big pasta eater. We visited San Juan where we hired a tour guide. It was a nice tour. A large well air conditioned van. Then we visited St Martin we took a cab to Orient Beach. Bought a few great jewelry pieces from a woman who has been in vogue. http://azitiz.fr/acceuilazitiz_en.html Then took cab to yacht club and ate lunch at a quiet French restaurant overlooking boats. It was very good. We shopped in Marigot for ray ban sunglasses. We returned to ship via cab which took us the scenic route. Lastly we took catamaran snorkel tour to 7,000 ft drop. Beautiful and exhilarating. Very attentive staff finishing up at a beach music and dancing Back onboard there was no shortage of things to see and do. It was wonderful. Shows very good, comedians hilarious. We also chose to hire the Dream Studio private photographer. This was so nice and very high quality photos and lighting. Our teens liked they didn't have to stand in long lines for pictures. They had places to go and things to do. Playing the many sports games, etc. It was easy to stay in touch via iMessage. Getting off went smoothly as did flight back home. I highly recommend this ship. I have cancer and have been on 3 cruises in last 6 months, all with family members. making memories. I mentioned we've done the dream studios. Jessica Rosslee was our favorite photographer. She's good really really good. Find her on Facebook and precook if you can. She trained with Don on Vista and then Legend now Dream. Many say it's too expensive, it's not, they work with you and quality is excellent. Don't be afraid to check them out. For me this was a highlight of the cruise. My family can enjoy for years to come. Lots to do on this ship. Never made it to IMAX. Never felt crowded. You're going to love it! Read Less

My second time this year on the Vista, we chose this itinerary as our first Christmas cruise and opportunity to enjoy the Havana area. Our ports included St. Maarten, San Juan, and Grand Turk. I was so amazed that so many of the crew remembered us from our cruise this summer in the Mediterranean. Service overall was fantastic, from our amazing cabin steward Paul in the Havana area aft balcony on deck 6, Franklin our bartender in the Havana area, Gabriel our bartender at the Alchemy bar, the amazing hostess in the Fahrenheit Steakhouse where we ate twice (again), to Matt and Cookie cruise director and entertainment directors extraordinaires! I know that common areas on the ship can be crowded at times. I do not like crowds or lines, so I planned my experience accordingly. With Your Time Dining, when I did choose to eat in the MDR, I'd eat early between 5:30 and 6:00 to check in. We never waited in line more than 5 minutes. For the must-try Pig and Anchor Sea Day barbecue, I went right when it opened or later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. It's superb, by the way. The brisket, chicken, sausage, mac and cheese, baked beans, and cornbread are best in class. For JiJi's Asian Mongolian wok lunch, I chose embarkation day to avoid any crowds at all. Of course, with the exclusive access to the Havana Area in the day time, our hot tubs, pools, loungers and large day beds were never crowded. This was heaven! It changes the whole cruise. It is completely worth it. If you know that service in the MDR can take 2-3 hours for dinner and you want to see a show, you should keep that in mind when ordering. Food in the MDR is just okay, especially if you stick to standard entrees. I don't do this. I order more unusual things like mussels, oysters Rockefeller, cheese plates, fish entrees, and port inspired entrée selections. These tended to be absolutely delicious. Also, if nothing sounded interesting to me, I'd make a meal of multiple appetizers and eat tapas style. I wish ordering a drink in the MDR meant that you could order from your wait captain. Once we ordered and never got our drinks. Also, it would be better if they had roving waiters on the decks to take drink orders when you're sunbathing. This kind of service is spotty on the ship. I'd eat every night in the steakhouse if they offered more entrees. It's excellent service, quiet, romantic, and superior quality dining. The hostess and wait staff went far beyond expectations to delight us with accommodating service. We had the Cheers package and loved a particular champagne only available there, so we stopped into the restaurant before dinner to get a glass and the hostess would just greet us and get our glasses. I felt like a VIP. Late night dining is great at Pizzeria del Capitano with hand tossed pizzas. This was the longest time we ever waited to eat, but we didn't mind because we conversed with others as we waited after midnight and got a beer at the bar right there. We'd have room service for breakfast and tried it once for dinner. My insider tip for this is to order an extra BLT for dinner and put it in your cabin fridge for breakfast the next day. Also tip your room service waiter! I loved the Studio VIP show and the America Rocks show this time. There was a small line the night we walked up to the Studio VIP show a few minutes early, and the cast pulled us out of line and asked us if we wanted to be in the show. We said yes, and got front row seats! If you're up for no-holds-barred adults entertainment, do not miss the NSFW late night adult scavenger hunt in the Liquid Lounge. I have never had so much fun on a cruise. We played a lot of trivia and won our coveted ship on a stick from the Vista this time as well. Our aft facing balcony was perfect with a view of the portside hot tub and the wake of the engines. The room is standard like all Carnival balconies with deeper balcony, Havana toiletries (including a body wash, body wash/shampoo dual purpose wash, and but no separate conditioner, so be aware of that), and special robes and towels. After 7PM, they open the Havana area to the entire ship. Because this was holiday season there were a lot of teens on vacation. On two nights, we had loud teens right outside our room in the hot tub not 10 feet from us. This was a bit of a nuisance, so I'd avoid this same type room when school was out if I sailed on the Vista again. Our itinerary was completely reversed due to storms in the Caribbean, but we had perfect weather, so I wasn't phased. St. Maarten is great for beaches, shopping in Philipsburg, and dining in Marigot. Our snorkeling tour through Carnival was cancelled the day before with no explanation, so we just booked a bus tour of the island with an opportunity to have lunch in Marigot. Good call! The island creole meal at Rosemary's on the beach was superb! Old Town in San Juan is absolutely charming for a food tour and a walking tour right off the ship, and you can walk to the beautiful, photogenic seaside port El Morro right from the ship. Grand Turk has pristine beaches, but Governor's beach right off the ship near Margaritaville is too crowded for me. I took a cab to Cockburn town for the best conch ever and then went on to Pillory beach a bit farther down and not as crowded. Loved it! This was the first cruise where we met a number of other gay and lesbian couples at the Alchemy Bar on the first night LGBT gathering with whom we hit it off, spent time off and on at shows, at trivia, and even meeting for dinner. We were so pleased! Frankly, even the rest of the people in the Havana area and the crew were incredibly friendly. We had so much fun. We loved taking spin classes in the mornings (for a $23/class per person fee) in the gym. The classes were always sold out, so sign up in advance! The technology with provided chest strap heart rate monitors and biking shoes is really cool! I've cruised plenty of times with Carnival now, and I know how to tailor an experience to have a wonderful time, avoid the crowds, mitigate any disappointments. I'm sorry that so many other people don't have the experience I have. I'd only book a spa cabin or a Havana cabin on this ship to insure a fabulous cruise. Read Less

We are experienced cruisers and we chose this ship because we typically have fun on Carnival cruises. However, the Vista was a huge disappointment for the following reasons. 1) The anytime dining option has people go to the 5th deck, stand in line only to receive a slip to allow you to go to the 3rd deck to eat. No tablecloths and no dress code enforced so it feels like a cafeteria; 2) Limelight comedy club has no bar so you will more than likely not a get a drink when its full. There is a long 30 minute wait to get in so I suppose they expect you to stand in line with your drink; 3) TV did not work properly for 1st 3 days and the internet for the 1st 36 hours was off and no compensation; 4) The theater doubles as the night club so there are no permanent seats is very poor. No tables to place a drink and activities for the club tend to be pushed out to accommodate the theater and other activities' schedule; 5) The piano bar is one of our favorite spots but it's tucked away in a corner and the piano is partially blocked by a large pole. Poor location. We only went once; 6) The food is ok but we felt it was a step below normal carnival food. One day a host told us we couldn't sit at a table because they had no one to clean it after we finished eating. I told her that was not my problem. Only 1 sea day brunch for 3 sea days when other ships have 1 brunch per sea day.; 7) Wait staff service was very slow, 1 hr 45 minute start to finish; 8) Only 6 hot tubs with 3,950 passengers so they are always crowded; 9) The ship's layout does not have a very nice flow; 10) Very long lines ship wide. The Atrium is rather closed in. Just a few thoughts. On a positive note, there are a lot of good customer service focused employees but management is removing their ability to provide good service on their ships Read Less

First of all, the ship was absolutely beautiful and the staff was attentive. There were plenty of dining options however there may be a wait at times for the anytime dining option. You will get a buzzer if a table isn't immediately ready. The photos on this ship are all digital which is really a cool. Instead of tons of photos plastered on the wall, there are digital displays in which you can view your photos anytime. Very nice. They print them when you order them. I recommend that you download the free app which is only good for the cruise that you're on. A list of entertainment, restaurants and your photos can all be accessed from your phone. The app is free but if you want to activate the chat feature, it was only $5.00 for the whole cruise. It allows you to chat with anyone on the ship. It's a very handy feature when traveling with a large group or simply if you want to be able to communicate with your cabin partner when you're not together. Now for the bad. There were too many kids on board and many were out of control. They often left the ice cream station a mess. This is my 5th cruise and I have never seen so much debris in the halls to include crushed ice cream cones in the hallway. This is a brand new ship and it's really a shame. I even had to caution a kid against playing in the revolving door. (Yes, they have a revolving door leading out to the deck) I guess it's my fault for taking a cruise during the Christmas break. Tomorrow is the last day of the cruise and I must say, I'm ready to go. Overall, I'm having a good time but some parents need to learn how to control their kids or leave them home! Read Less

My husband and I have always choosen Carnival to be our cruise line because we have always been treated special, the Carnival way. However, we were disappointed with Carnival Vista. We had a great steward, Frank, but i cant say the same for another steward, my husband had an incident where he asked another steward for a corkscrew, because we could not find our steward and the horrible room service was not picking up ( called for almost an hour, also every single time we call for breakfast room service, something is missing, no coffee cup, super late delivery, like an hour late and the last one was they never picked up our order) so this other steward answered " do i look like i have a corkscrew with me?" Duh! We know she does not have it with her but she could have said, "what room are you in and I will have someone send it up to you" (coz hubby told her we could not contact room service) so instead of that, she said "just go to the bar and let them open it for you" My sweet hubby did go to the bar and guess what? They charged him $15 corkage fee to open the bottle despite his explanation that he will bring it back to our room where I was waiting and that room service is not picking up our call. I was livid when I found out they charged him, I went back to that bar in the atrium and spoke to a bartender, who kept telling me that because we took out the bottle from our room, we have to be charged corkage fee. I showed her a copy of their liquoir policy... Corkage fee only when you intend to CONSUME the drink outside your room, at the bar, or main dining room. She would not listen when I kept telling her, i am drinking it in our room and that the only reason we had them open it, is because the room service is not answering for almost an hour and steward was no help, I then asked for her supervisor, she went to his office and when she came back, she said she will reverse the charges. Guest services and room services were hard to contact, nobody is answering most of the time. Miscommunications on a lot of activities! 1st one, Grand turk, why wait until the last minute to inform passengers that we could not dock in Grand turk? My husband knew it first before they even announced it over the paging system. Then in Jamaica, we got to dock a few hours before our scheduled one so we were allowed to go down and shop and come back for our 11am excursion assembly. We called the guest services to ask if we should still come back for the excursion assembly at the liquid lounge and they said yes. So at 8am, we went to the shopping center near the dock and rushed back before 11am back to the boat to the liquid lounge, only to find out from other ppl (no notes on the door) that we did not have to meet at the liquid lounge, insead it will be down the port's center. Very vry inconvenient, irritating and wasted time, not to mention, a long walk! Love Mat's shows but he is not organized! Lastly, food in the main dining area is HORRIBLE! Ate there 2x, 1st night and elegant night, the only one I liked was the lobster night and the rest of our cruise, we ate at bonsai and seafood shack, Bonsai is awesome! Not everything is bad... Love the shows, the games, love the interior decorations, the skyride and sky course! Vista has so much potential, just need to change your staff to the more caring ones, and definitely change the chef! Read Less

We wanted to experience the newest and the largest ship Carnival had to offer. We were not disappointed. We didn't get to port in Grand Turk due to the weather, which was sad, but beyond the control of crew. Better to be safe than sorry. The ship had more activity than we could possibly do. There was so much to do and the entertainment staff (Cruise Director Matt, Cookie, an NoNo) top notch!!!! The singers on the ship were not as good as we have experienced in the past, but the shows were still good. Because the ship was nearly sold out when we purchased our ticket, we ended up in an interior room. It was HUGE!!! We were really surprised with the space we had. We also never felt crowded, With all the people on board, the ship never seemed crowed, Odd but true. Embarkation and debarkation was also a breeze. It seems as if they have all the bugs sorted and its a well oiled operation. I am ready to go again!! Read Less

First and foremost the staff on board this ship are AMAZING!!!! The Cruise Director Matt and COOKIE of the funship team deserve an honorable mention for keeping the FUN flowing on this cruise. They made the trip FUN!!! The ship itself is great. Italian restaurant (except for that double portion business when people ordered the same thing) was good, the Seafood Shack is an AMAZING addition to cruising, Great prices, fresh, HOT food. BBQ was just OK ( I like hot food). Remember when you choose to cruise have a good time. Matt and Cookie were sometimes very PG 18+ but we loved them immensely. Anybody who didn't or were remotely offended to their banter or antics, LOOSEN UP or take Norwegian or Celebrity. You should not have been on the Funships! Also enjoyed the new DJ, kept the party going. Is there a way to find out who the funship team is before you book a cruise?? Only want to cruise on ships where COOKIE and Matt are! COOKIE you gave us LIFE!!!!!! you are on your way to Cruise Director.....or President and CEO of FUN The ship looks like an upscale resort you almost forget you are on the water. Loved it. Didn't stop in Grand Turk due to weather?? Stuck on ship for 3 days. ONLY gave a $15 credit per person which was very unfair!!! RUM bar was not stocked with Malibu rum for full day and a half which was disappointing. Bar staff was good though (courteous and friendly). Dining rooms upgrade really nice. Looks like an upscale restaurant. Dining room food is always pretty basic, hit or miss on entree choices. They definitely need more omelet stations in Lido Marketplace for 4000 passengers. You could choose to do as much or as little as you wanted as they kept the activities going. Need more options for late night food. NOTE to Carnival: people party then want to eat more than pizza late at night. Need to offer other options. Room service can be very slow when 4000 people want a late night snack. The staff (waiters, cabin stewards) work VERY HARD!!!! Remember that before you are unkind or rude to them. Honestly don't know when they sleep. They always seem to be doing something. CARNIVAL YOUR STAFF IS YOUR GREATEST TREASURE I HOPE YOU TREAT THEM WELL. Also note to travelers, even though cruising is pretty much all inclusive, it is still nice to leave your waiter, bar staff or room steward an extra tip for good service. They really appreciate it! We were definitely excited about being on the new Carnival Vista since we are Diamond Carnival cruisers. We booked a back to back cruise so were on the ship for 17 days. However, we were very disappointed in the way the ship had been designed. It seemed that because it was a larger ship they tried to fit in so many new venues and cut back on other things that are the regular Carnival design. The funnel in the centre of the atrium was very interesting, changing colour and design continuously. This replaced the glass elevators that are usually on the Carnival ships. It was very difficult to find the public washrooms and if you are a man and play in the casino you have to go up a deck to find one or walk the length of the ship on the casino deck to find one. The casino tables were so close together than it was difficult for the bar staff to deliver drinks as well as being difficult to get around the various tables. The public washrooms when found were very small, only 2 or 3 stalls except for the one in the atrium area had 5. They should have had large washrooms in the high traffic area where the Liquid Lounge was for performances, the Limelight Lounge,Punchlinder Club, Casino. In all of our Carnival cruises this was the smallest interior cabin we have ever had. There was only one closet with 4 drawers, no drawers in the vanity only 4 open shelves. No table only a stool at the desk. No extra hooks to hang wet clothes but there was a clothes line in the shower. Very disappointing. We had a leak in our cabin 2 days from disembarkation and were given another cabin to use for the day until the leak was fixed. I sent my laundry out to be done for the next day and upon return we were missing a pair of capri pants which were never found so Carnival reimbursed the cost of the pants. Additional laundry that we sent I requested it back the same day and there was no problem. There are metal door tracks for the fire doors around the ship which are higher and bevelled at the top, higher than the usual metal strips. I fell on one of these and damaged my brand new eyeglasses. We had purchased the Carnival Vacation Package for our travel and when I called the insurance company to report this I was told that they don't cover eyeglasses. I will avoid buying this package in the future. I advised the security staff that there should be a yellow and black strip placed on these higher tracks letting people know they should watch their step. Several other guests mentioned that they had also tripped over these tracks and almost fallen. There were at least 2 other people besides me who had fallen over these tracks and were injured. Matt the cruise directors and his staff were great. We had extra entertainment on the first leg of our cruise since it was a Journeys cruise and one the 6 day part of the cruise there were live shows every night and they were all excellent especially the production of "Flick". The Liquid Lounge was not built on a slant so you could see over the person in front. It was filled with individual chairs which they removed after the late show to turn it into a dance club. It was very difficult to see most of the performances if someone in front of you was tall or if you had a pole in the way. There seemed to be an overabundance of poles. There were several eating venues around the ship that you had to pay extra for which I thought was excessive. Why should we be charged extra when we already paid for the cruise. We ate pretty much always in the Dining Room for breakfast and dinner and would have lunch at Guy's Burgers which are to die for. There were two theatres on the ship which carried an additional charge as well. There was an Imax Theatre and a Thrill Theatre. We didn't go to either one once we heard there was an additional charge. There were 2 pools on the ship and a 3rd pool in the Havana Cove Balcony area that would open to all cruisers after 7 pm each day but it was only available to cruisers who had Cover Balconies the rest of the day. They removed the hot tubs at the main pool and replaced it with seats that allow you to immerse your feet in...would have preferred the hot tubs. There were plenty of lounge chairs as well as comfortable chairs and tables on the lido deck and lots of seating in other areas. Overall we enjoyed the warm weather but will probably not book the Vista again unless the itinerary is enticing. We had ordered the shuttle for embarkation. When we arrived at the airport at 1 pm we were told that a shuttle had left earlier with only half full, it broke down on the way to the ship and they had to Uber everyone to the ship. They didn't think there were enough people to order another shuttle. Meanwhile some people had been waiting up to 3 hours for another shuttle to arrive. It finally came around 2 pm and it took us 2 hours to get to the ship because of New York traffic so we never arrived until 4:30 pm in the ship. Read Less
