The crew is friendly but rather unhelpful, they never clarified any instructions and I was offered a drink maybe once in my several days by the pool. There was no one out taking drink orders and bringing drinks. The food at the formal dining was not great, and even upon sitting at the bar my younger sister tried to get the crews attention for over 30 minutes. I’m addition when we made it to our second stop we originally were told we could get off at 11, well going through customs has people still on the boat it’s alrwady 2 o’clock. Originally they also said we didn’t have to be back on the hot until 8, that has also been moved up until 6:30. This is the most unruly cruise I’ve ever been on, people are missing their excursions they paid hundreds of dollars for, and frankly it isn’t even worth it to get off the boat anymore. Simply ridiculous. All of this said, we were looking for a cheaper cruise but I feel even for the price it wasn’t worth it. Read Less

We chose our first summer cruise (6th cruise overall) to celebrate our 20th Anniversry! It was fun! We arrived later than normal the day boarding at 2pm. Easy peasy. Once onboard we went to our stateroom where our keys were waiting outside our room. We opted for our first balcony experience and we quite enjoyed it! We were in room 8300. Quiet spot, lots of room and storage, comfy King bed. Of course we brought a power bar and put it to good use. Shower was hot all the time, bathroom big enough for us. Mini fridge is always handy. One day an hour after we left Cozumel I noticed a large fish in the water below our balcony. After watching it for a few seconds it came up for air and I realized it was a baby dolphin! I called my wife out too see but she was too late. Not two minutes later we saw two more young dolphins! A very cool experience we wouldn’t have gotten if we didn’t have a balcony. Most of the time the balcony upgrade is too pricey but for this four day cruise it made sense. One great upgrade in all rooms was the night light that would come on near the floor when you got up to go to bathroom in the dark! Someone was thinking, cool feature to have it on a floor motion detector. Only came on when your feet hit the floor. Food was good on board. The Atlantic dining room was our place to “anytime dine” and Nick and his crew were fantastic! Food was hot and tasty and Nick worked hard to make our experience great. We even got sang too and presented with a special dessert for our anniversary. That was a nice touch. We found that line ups were often long at the deli and pizza place. Go in off peak times to avoid this. My GF diet was catered too everywhere on ship except at the Blue Iguana, no corn taco shells!! Even the deli had a turkey wrap ready in a FF wrap! Buffet was decent and had two omelette stations. We had the cheers drink package and really enjoyed ordering whatever we wanted without worrying about the cost. Entertainment on board was great! Good shows in the main showroom and funny comedians, two of them. Wasn’t a big fan of Leticia, solo singer. Voice seemed to over power the ambiance. The casino was Smokey in areas but fun! We were premier guests and enjoyed Kyle and his crew with all the fun games and draws. I won $75 in one game when my playing card was pulled and I got to select an envelope to open. My wife’s name was drawn for a $400 prize but she was enjoying the balcony and couldn’t make it in time to collect her prize. Slot tournaments were fun as well as the BJ one. First cruise I ever finished up at. Only $300 but I’ll take it! Pool areas were fun, crowded but we just hopped in to cool off then jump in the outdoor shower. Water slide was fun, I enjoyed trying it. Lots of chairs could be found if you weren’t stuck on a particular area. I found good service at all the bars, staff was great. We really liked the itinerary, Keywest is vey fun and reminded us of a mini New Orleans. We did a hop on hop off trolley tour for $35 each, 90 min. Narrated. It was a great way to see things and hear the history. Next time we can go do something more specific. Leaving at 1pm made it a short stay, would love to hang out in Sloppy Joes and other bars longer. Cozumel is one of our favs and this time we booked an excursion privately with four other lovely people we met here on cruise critic. Tour was awesome, picked up in an air conditioned van and taken to a Tequelia farm, local bar, Coconuts bar and Tortuga Beach bar where we were fed free lunch (yummy tacos) and got to do some snorkeling for free. Very cool, was a 5 hour tour all over the island. Thanks to our tour organizer Cindy and Michael (NCL CIN) for including us and for our other new friends Tonya and Jill for being great passengers with us!! Tequelia farm is NOT to be missed and none of us were Tequelia fans prior to this. It tasted NOTHING LIKE the Tequelia we drink in North America. So tasty and smooth, no salt and lemon needed. Everyone bought a bottle Beiderbecke we left. Local bar was eye opening, 8 drinks and free apps, the bill was $25!! Coconuts was on the no hydro side of the island and well worth the trek. Drinks were pricey but bar and view was fantastic. All in all another great Carnival cruise, felt longer than four days! Read Less

There was 5 of us in total, (20,21) 2 in a 4J cabin #9203 and us 3 (31, 42,48) in an 8D cabin #9229. The kids kept their cabin a mess 90% of the time so cabin steward did very little in their cabin all week. But our cabin steward was good, introduced himself and we never saw him again all week. He did ask us if we wanted service, morning, evening or both? I told him both and he came twice a day. We always had plenty of towels and our beach towels were always replaced. The balcony was small as usual. There was only two mirrors in the entire cabin, bathroom and vanity. There wasnt even a full length mirror in the cabin?! Weird So us 3 were always fighting fo mirror time before dinner. Purchased FTTF but only one of the 5 got their luggage immediately. The rest of us had to wait until after munster to get ours like 4:30. Also though we had 10:30 checkin time, we still were made to wait over an hour to board. First time using FTTF and not sure I will use it again. The 2 things we wanted it for, luggage and early boarding was a bust. We ate every nigth but one in the dining room. We had anytime dining and had to wait every night with a pager to be seated, whether it was 3 of us or 5. Most nights, we waited 30-40 mins. Dinner was okay, nothing to rant and rave about. But we definitely didnt go hungry either. We ate pizza late most nights and there was always a line. Three of us purchased CHEERS package and we loved it. Wont ever sail Carnival without it again! We bought Jeep tour through Viator for $85 a person and loved it. It was our 3rd time doing this excursion so we knew already what to expect. The weahter was perfect all week and we all got beautiful tans to show off when we got home. Went to 2 theater shows and 2 comedy shows. Both were good but comedy shows were the best. Didnt find ship freeze inside venues at night. Disco was packed every night with DJ playing a variety of music from 80s-current. All in all a wonderful cruise for the price we paid. $400pp for a balcony on Lido pool deck was cheap! Looking forward to going again real soon. Any questions, message me. Read Less

This was my second cruise and overall, it was amazing! The food was particularly wonderful, the staff was friendly, the activities were plentiful and even the hiccups left my best friends and I with some amazing stories! Ship: Overall, the ship was well-decorated (personal opinion), clean and easy to navigate. The only negative we encountered about the ship overall was that in some areas (certain hallways, common areas) there was an unpleasant "restroomy" smell. Cabin: We booked an interior cabin that was supposed to have two twin beds and a pull out couch since we had 3 guests. The ship was not able to accommodate that request and instead gave us an average sized interior room with two beds. We were told that a cot would be brought to our room. It wasn't delivered until very late at night which would have been inconvenient if we wanted to nap that day or go to bed early. When the "cot" finally came, it was the equivalent of a blow up mattress on the floor. That was a bit disappointing. The linens on this "cot" were also never changed during our 4 day cruise. Other than that, the room was clean and service was good. Dining: The food was EXCELLENT! The Lido deck breakfast never disappointed and the dining room food and service was absolutely superb. One of our guests had a seafood allergy and was given the menu for the following evening every night so that the staff could be sure that her food would be prepared separately and safely. It also gave myself and our other friend the chance to get a sneak peak at what would be served. We also had the chance on this cruise to try the Seaday Brunch and it was delicious. Entertainment: What can I say? It was definitely a "Fun Cruise". During all of our relaxing we didn't get to do as many of the activities as we wanted, but each one we did get the chance to experience was fun. We went to Bingo, Karaoke (the Red and Black Lounge is beautiful btw), the Hairy Chest Competition and the Spa demonstration just to name a few. Ports: Key West was beautiful, but a short trip so plan activities wisely. There is not much of a beach, but the water is beautiful. Also, in regards to the shuttle that Carnival provides to and from the port at Key West, a million people will show up for the last shuttle so try to get there early just to be safe. We loved the Fat Tuesdays here! Cozumel was a lot of fun! We booked the Helmet Sea Floor excursion through Carnival and the experience and service were awesome. The tour guides were super helpful and two free drinks were included! Afterwards, the cab driver that was called for us by the tour guides took us to a resort called "Paradise Island" with the most beautiful heated pool! We could have stayed forever. The beach was a little underwhelming. I prefer the white sand and bluer water I experienced in the Bahamas. I enjoyed the Latinx culture and flavor of this destination but don't know if I would chose it again. Overall, it was a wonderful vacation and I definitely plan on sailing the Victory again when I get the chance! Read Less

Victory pulled what I had heard of this ship in other reviews: The night before we were contacted via email that our onboard time would be two hours later. Lucky for us, we got late checkout at the hotel and arrived at the appear at the appropriate time. Crowded but still found seats in the terminal. Onboard about 45 minutes later. My friend who sailed on the Victory in 2004 said that except for the cabin refurb (still happening while we were on the ship) nothing had changed in the decor. Part of the 7th floor was cordoned off for refurb which did cause havoc. The turpentine (or something of that ilk)fumes on that floor for the nearby cabins was stifling (I smelled it when I made the mistake one day of crossing the ship on the 7th floor and a breakfast mate on the 8th above it said the work noise was coming through their cabin in a big way). Also, during the required emergency drill, one woman coming from the 7th actually fainted from the fumes right in front of me. Both of us are easy to get along with but we had to sit at two different tables the first two nights with some pretty awful people. Carnival does not have an option to switch tables nightly which is a great way to meet more people. The third/4th nights we begged to get into dine around and succeeded where they sat us by ourselves. We had much better luck with our breakfast dining room mates when they sat us with other passengers. Breakfast in the dining room was great; dinner in the dining room was a hit and miss affair, but the service itself was great (I understand there are 1,100 staffers on the ship, making it a great staff/passenger ratio). When I did check out the buffet, it was plentiful but very crowded after 930AM (Carnival passengers appear to be late risers). All staff were polite who were trained to be (I always find it funny that staff like engineers or white uniformed staff are never trained to say hello). The entertainment was typical, the dancers a bit sloppy and only two singers had to carry all the shows (I'm used to at least 4). They outdid themselves on costumes, sound and lighting though, and had a live band. Carlos the cruise director was quite fun and probably the edgiest cruise director I've ever had on a cruise, unafraid to hurl some gentle insults here and there. The gym is excellent! Re the ports, only 730A-130P in Key West??? Way too short (and we saw about a dozen folks miss the ship as we pulled away--a first for me). Cozumel was much longer, so unless you stayed on board, there's not much to do in Cozumel except shop in the touristy shops at the pier or pay to take an excursion. We did the latter with the Everybody Loves Rays tour where you actually got into a pool of stingrays and even fed them. It was definitely a new experience for me and for the price, I felt it was worth it and the staff was knowledgeable and nice. Plus they split us into groups so the experience wasn't overcrowded. We got a great price on the cruise because of the post-Thanksgiving, pre-Christmas time period, but overall Carnival doesn't attract the crowd that I like to hang with. I'll pay more and stick to Celebrity that seems to meet all my needs better. Read Less

My family and I cruised on the Carnival Victory on January 29-February 2, to celebrate my 21st birthday. This ship was crowded and filled with many young people. I am a gold member with carnival and through my previous experiences I had never seen so many young adults. I barely saw any kids running around. Most people were drinking and having a good time. First we flew into Miami and stayed at the Comfort Suites. The hotel was pretty good for a quick one night stay. The parking there was bad and there was a weird smell as we walked into the hallway, but our rooms were clean. We had to call the front desk for extra towels and they took forever to give them to us. We took the free shuttle from the hotel to the port the next day. Embarkation was quick and easy. We were on the ship in 20 minutes. The food on the Victory was pretty good. I'm used to cruising on ships with the 2.0 upgrades, so I was missing my favorite Guy's Burger Joint and Blue Iguana. BEWARE... Omelet lines are extremely long. I waited at least 50 minutes in line for one omelet. The buffet was always crowded and it was difficult to find a place to sit after receiving my food. The best place to find a table was in the Aft, but depending on the time, it can also be difficult to find a table there too. The service in the main dining room was great. The servers were very friendly and we received our food quickly. I could have done without the Key West port. The ship docked in Key West at 7am and we had to be back on board by 1:30pm. This is not enough time to do many activities. Unless you plan on getting of the boat exactly at 7am, then prepare to be disappointed. My family and I decided to just do a train tour around the island. The tour was supposed to be a hop on hop off, but we were only able to get off once because of the lack of time. The tour was nice, but also pretty boring. As soon as it was over it was time to get back on the ship. I had been to Cozumel once before, but this time I had more time to explore the island. Normally ships get there early in the morning and leave mid-afternoon, but we were there from 1pm to 10pm. I loved this because I had more time to sleep in and didn't feel rushed to get off the ship. My family and I decided to do a small tour which took us to a private beach. We went snorkeling in the calm clear water. We were supposed to go do a tequila tasting after the beach, but we decided to use the extra time to do some shopping. Being that this cruise was only 4 days I didn't get a chance to do many activities. I did get on the water slide which was slow. I only did it once and never wanted to do it again. I guess I should have known something was wrong with it because there was hardly ever a line to get on. The pool next to the water slide looked really dirty so I didn't get in. If you choose to attend this cruise make sure you attend the comedy club. All but one of the comedians were funny. The Married couples show was funny as well. The night club was always packed. The music played in the club was pretty good as well if you are into loud, booty shaking music. Overall I enjoyed my cruise on the Carnival Victory, but I wouldn't do it again unless they upgrade the ship. The cruise is really outdated and missing all of the new and fun 2.0 upgrades. I think I only had as much fun as I did because it was my birthday and I was surrounded by 15 other family members. If you're young and ready to party I would suggest this cruise to you, but if you are older and just looking to relax on your vacation I definitely wouldn't recommend this cruise. Also I wouldn't recommend this cruise to people who are used to newer carnival ships. If you are new to cruising like some of my family members were, then I'm sure you will have a great time because you have nothing to compare it to. I'll write about a couple aspect of the cruise both in general and going solo. For this cruise I got a call from Carnival after looking up some cruise dates and then just putting it off. They offered a great deal and couldn't pass it up. I had a few free flights from Southwest and a hotel stay at the Hilton. I flew in from Indy and was on my way to Ft Lauderdale to take an Uber down to Miami. However, my flight was stuck in Tampa so I rented a car from Avis and drove to Miami with a quick stop to see family. I stayed at the Hilton Miami Downtown which is an awesome hotel. This was my second cruise the first one being also Western Caribbean (7-nights on the Freedom). The first one was amazing. For this This one was good with a few noticeable differences. This ship is smaller and does not have quite as much to offer. My favorites on the Freedom where the alchemy bar, fish and chips, and all the 2.0 upgrades they had just added. This ship had none of those. On the Freedom the cruise director (Skip) was amazing. He was everywhere! The cruise director on this cruise was...ok. The piano bar guy on the Freedom (Seth Gibson) was stellar...I think the piano bar on the Victory was almost empty every night. Embarkation and disembarkation was very smooth just like last time. Food seemed to be better than last time which was a plus. Crew was nice as expected. I did get the drink package this time...even for being a light weight being able to only drinking maybe 7 drink or less I think I came out ahead still. I forgot to do open enrollment for work so I had to buy Internet which is slow and not very reliable for the money. I can get more reliable Internet 40,000 miles in the air on a plane.   Read Less

I'm writing this review after I have tried both Carnival and Royal Caribbean. I went into this with no expectations because this was my first time cruising--I only knew I wanted to be on a beach and relax under the sun for a few days away from the D.C. cold. The cruise turned out to be so much fun! It was my best friend and me. We had a room with a window. Our room was pretty decent sized (bigger than our room in RC Enchantment of the Seas), the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was pretty clean (I was expecting a really tiny stand-up shower but it actually turned out to be a pretty good size--bigger than RC's), and room service was always so nice. There was this one staff member, Myo Min from Myanmar, who was just so funny. It's years later and I still remember what a blast he was. I wonder if he's still with Carnival Victory! The food was actually pretty great. The late-night and 24-hour foods were just mediocre, but I remember always being very satisfied with dinners on board. Breakfast and lunch was always pretty filling, too. I don't know if I'm only remembering it like this because I didn't expect much, but I just remember being pleasantly surprised with the food. It was better than the food on RC's Enchantment of the Seas! There was always so much to do on-board. My friend and I won $100 from the crane game in the casino, we went to the piano bar with some new friends we made at dinner, we went to the comedy club, we did karaoke, watched movies poolside, and just had a blast doing everything. I don't remember ever really having a dull moment. The only thing I had a problem with was this dolphin shore excursion in Nassau--swimming with dolphins. It was just so overpriced and not worth the $139 (I think?) we paid. We barely got to interact with the dolphins, and we had to pay extra for the few pictures we got to take with them. Service was always great. Shore excursions were also great. At Half Moon Cay, there's a man near the shore who will charge you just $20/pp to go horseback riding through the beach. So much cheaper than the excursion price through the cruise line! He even gave us free conch shells at the end, we got to pick one from a pile. Read Less
