This was our first cruise and we loved it. We departed from Miami, which we did not explore because what we did see in Miami we we're not impressed. To be honest it looked dirty and unsafe, but that can be anywhere. The food in Miami was amazing though. Getting on the ship was easy but we paid for a fast track so we would not have to stand in line as we have a 1 year old. The embrakation was smooth. They did a safety drill for each Munster station which was a mess. I suggest they scan room cards as you come in and pass out bands for children 12 and under that way you don't have to stand for an hour waiting to get a demonstration of putting on a life jacket. Other than that it was easy to go. The ship itself was beautiful and looked new. The 5th floor had a Casino for those who want to gamble and life music with an amazing band. The fun shops are small but amusing. The theater is huge and beautiful. The public areas were beyond clean. Oh there is a small playground for kids, my daughter loved it! Our cabin was awesome. It was clean as a whistle upon our arrival. The showers have shampoo and body wash dispensers so that is convenient. We had a balcony beautiful room but wish I got a room with a window only for extra play space.l enjoyed seeing a new towel animal daily after house keeping cleaned. Which is done daily. Dining OMG food galore!!! I ate 7 meals a day, the Lido deck had a great buffet. There were great restaurants to eat at that we're free. I didn't do fancy dining cause I'm on vacation with family not the President of the United States. So I can't tell you about the food you pay for. Room service food was delicious too and the employees that bring it are beyond amazing. One was from Thailand another from Bahamas and Ukraine, amazing! I did not do adult entertainment because o was more concerned we the my daughter having fun so I did that. Their we're movies every night. We did a parade and story time. Tons of pictures with Dr.Suess characters she loved it. I wish there were more activities like that for her during the cruise. The music selection was not my favorite but hey peoy want to party, but I think there should have been more of a variety! Service was stellar! Seriously if anyone complained they had to be drunk. The photographers we're amazing and professional. Housekeeping professional, hilarious and worked hard. Cooks well the best because they fed us. Capatin out of this world. Our Cruise director Felipe the best. And I remember Josh the guy who was always making a joke for the performances great and funny. Bartenders quick and polite. Room service quick and didn't mind me picking their brains! Ports Key West Sucks! Their only place to walk is Duval St and nothing is open when you dock. Boring during the day and I will stay on the ship when I cruise again and it's a stop. Cozumel, totally beautiful. The natives are hilarious and so friendly, they do everything they can to sell stuff but hey that have to make a living too. The atmosphere here outstanding! I'd visit Cozumel Mexico anytime. The save the sea turtles was an amazing excursion my older kids did it and said that was the highlight of their day. Disembarkation was a gaggle they need to exit those who paid for quicker exit first by floors not herd us into a room tells us to sit then now leave. Customs was friendly and polite. The biggest issue of leaving was Miami TSA rude, rude, rude except for 3 TSA women who was awesome by my daughter. Read Less

The Carnival Victory was a disappointment from the time we got on board. There were major mechanical problem. Four of the 6 hot tubs were not in working order, the food was mediocre at best and the service was terrible. You have to pay $20 extra for filet or lobster tail. so it is not really all inclusive. The ship was in dry dock for almost 3 weeks prior to our cruise, You would expect things to be in tip top shape. Many of the public rest rooms were out of service and the ones that were open were filthy. When I tried to talk to guest services regarding my concerns - I was told to call 1-800-Carnival when I got home!! The on board entertainment was good. Only bright spot on the cruise. Embarkation was a nightmare because the ship was not ready at the scheduled time. Even though the ship had an over haul it is still dated. Read Less

Seemingly, one gets what one pays for. This 4-night cruise was very cheap...almost as though there was a catch. (Guess what?...there was!) Starting with the embarkation, expect to lose between 1 and 3 hours from your life (but this will feel more like a flight cancellation). Actual check-in was fast; the wait afterwards, more tiresome than awesome. Getting the green light to board only prolonged the agony of now having to stand on the gangway for another half-hour. The usual anticipation after boarding of a large satisfying lunch as reward for queuing was not quite the fulfilling experience I am used to. Yet more slow, sloooowww queues! In my experience, certain European cultures - who shall not be named - would appear to be ‘disrespectful’ in how they help themselves from a buffet; they queue only for the part of the buffet that they want to take from, instead of waiting for the WHOLE line. For example, one queue of around 50 hungry passengers - a 20-minute wait approx. - could be kept waiting by just ONE person who decides to carefully transfer one melon cube at a time over onto their plate at the very start of the buffet. Imagine this unneeded gap gradually opening up that nobody behind dared to step enter for fear of breaking protocol. Crazy. Things never really improved: Food average, never piping hot; entertainment boring - singing & dancing, dancing & singing. It would have been a great time to recharge one’s batteries with a theater-nap, except there was nothing afterward to recharge for besides tomorrow’s buffet queueing. Cabin clean enough and well-provided. For this middle-aged couple, this was our first and last Carnival cruise. Meeting a Texan couple who unashamedly, proudly admitted Carnival was their only ever cruise line (and 30th cruise), I couldn’t help thinking these poor souls have never experienced what cruising variety actually entails. Sad. So very sad. Read Less

A large group of 18 of us, cruised to Grand Cayman and Ocho rios, Jamaica 26th thro 31st Dec 2015. Lemme briefly get to the good and bad. Good: Stewardess are good, always approachable and ready to help. Room service was well taken care. Dinners were good. Comedians did a good job with their shows. Staff and crew were nice but not to the point were they leave an impression. And after running my own restaurant successfully I know what quality service means. Bad: Ship is so outdated. Water leaks in multiple places. 3 of our rooms reeked of stench. The toilet bowl would never flush. Plumbers were prompt to come and take a look but the problem was never solved. The plumber said there is less water in the bowl and will fix the problem. Never was fixed. Which resulted in bad smell and bathroom usage for my kids was a nightmare. Sorry to be so gross...but I had to always pour extra water to help flush, which was like ...yikes...esp on a vacation. The entire ship had these bad foul smelling spots and corridors smelled old and rusty. Breakfast and lunch lines were long with below average food. Very greasy too. Waiters for dinner times looked tired and over worked. They were not in a position to accommodate any small change , such as a new cup for water, as the one on the table smelled bad. Request for a wine glass would throw them off. They seemed trained like robots to just follow a set of code. Entertainment for adults was pathetic. No shows ,except for one average production . Comedy nights was the only saving grace. Dance club was not up to its mark Oh ..Pictures..How can I forget that...Very average photographers, who overlook a lot of broad details. Dont waste your $ on those pictures. We did buy , but realized it was a mistake ..a bit too late. Kids entertainment again is poor. On comparison , not as bad as for the adults. Overall, my strong suggestion is to look at the age of a ship before you choose. Read Less

My wife and I did a back-to-back cruise out of Miami on the Victory 12/13-12/21. The first loop was 5 days which left port on 12/13 with stops at Grand Cayman and Falmouth. The second loop was 4 days which left port on 12/17 with stops at Key West and Cozumel. Avoiding the minutia, I will address the things that stuck out in our experience - good and...not so good. The good. The room was average, but the stewards were exceptional. Friendly, efficient, always busy. They kept our room tidy when we didn't. Our chief steward knew us, called us by name, and always appeared upbeat even when we knew he and his crew had worked their collective butts off throughout the day. The wait staff was very good as well. We had my time dining so we had different waiters for dinner on most nights, but they all were attentive and friendly. The buffet wait staff, the staff at the different food stations, and the bussers on deck were pleasant and efficient also. The food was good - not great, not bad. That said, dinner in the main dining room was always enjoyable. We particularly enjoyed the wait staff singing and dancing. Victory has an adults only pool and two hot tubs located on the aft end of Lido deck (in addition to the Serenity area). A great place to go to get away from the bustle of the main pool area. It has a retractable roof that can be opened when the weather is good and closed to cover the area when the weather is bad. This created a bit of problem when the weather turned bad because families came back there to escape the rain and wind - and of course the children naturally wanted to get into the pool and hot tubs like they were able to at the main pool location. I will say the staff in that area did a good job reminding parents that the pool and hot tubs were adult only. Most parents were respectful of that and either kept their children out or moved back to the main area. The not so good. On board activities for adults. Very limited. We enjoy trivia, trivia was available - at the casino lounge. A make shift area in the casino where people walk thru on a constant basis, making it very difficult to hear let alone focus on the question. Additionally if you are sensitive to cigarette smoke (like us) or don't want to be exposed to second hand smoke - this is not an activity for you due to its location. The casino was an on board activity - not for us, sensitivity to smoke and not into gambling. Bingo – Sometimes. Again, not into gambling. Art auctions – Infrequent, but really..........come on. Towel folding lessons - no thanks. Fortunately we brought games along to play. While playing a board game on deck we saw 3 women asking to take pictures and getting signatures. We asked them what they were doing. They and their husbands decided to put together their own scavenger hunt to entertain themselves. We looked at each other and said - a good idea, but how sad to have to resort to that. The bad. The muster station drill is terrible. Wait until the last minute to go to your station or you may end up standing on deck for up to 20-30 minutes. You stand almost shoulder to shoulder 4 to 5 rows deep of people for 10 to 15 minutes minimum. In reality it isn't forever, but it sure feels like that. In summary. The ship is dated. That said, it was comfortable and well kept. Night time entertainment is available, but not of the highest caliber. I would recommend spending at least one night in the piano bar if you enjoy singing. The buffet food was average to above average depending when and where you got it. The staff was excellent. I had been on 13 cruises with different cruise lines before this one. I had written a review a number of years ago on this site about my experience on the Queen Mary 2 with the title " It appeared from the moment we arrived, they were trying to Piss Us Off ! " I had minimal expectations that my experience on this Carnival Cruise would be anything more than tolerable. I had overspent in the past to go on five star lines such as Celebrity and Crystal having had negative experiences on Holland America (4 stars) and Princess (4 stars). In many reviews, Carnival is designated as a teen age party cruise worthy only of 3 stars. Given that the cost was so low and it was mitigated with an offer of a $100 onboard credit, I figured that me and my cousin would be munching hamburgers and be subjected to a noisy inside cabin, musty smells, and Ramada Inn style service. NOT SO ! From the moment of arrival and depositing of our bags with the purser to the expeditious check in and the early availability of our room, Amazement set in ! Food on the LIdo deck was sumptuous and quickly provided. Clean up was immediate and all crew were friendly and provided assistance. The Victory, although older, has had a recent refit and is downright elegant . Shall I go on ? Dinner in the dining room is delightful and is as worthy as anything on the Celebrity and Crystal Cruise lines. Our three, (count them three) table attendants for eight people, were johnny on the spot. One night, the Chataugbriat was a little tough. An alternative was brought to the table within three minutes with no hint of recently be reheated in a microwave. The deserts were to die for. The gym was amazing ! I have lived with flat foot pain for many years, having invested in custom inserts and having to buy expensive ugly shoes at top dollar. A seminar gave information about an insert that I can wear in any shoe or flip flop joining with velcro and give comfort and increased balance and stablility. I wore them in a half an hour in the gym before purchacing and just bought my first pair of loafers since I was 16. The inside cabin was spotless, the beds comfortable, the sheets and towels changed twice a day. The music was incredible ! There was a three piece Hispanic group from the Dominican Republic, and a four piece hip hop group from the Phillipines that held the crowds and had people dancing and lingering at the bars long after midnight. It helped that there were a surprising number of passengers who were excellent dancers. Any negatives....YES !!! Who put a off key, hippy guitar player in the Atrium for three nights ? As evidence by the empty venue, the cruise line got this one way wrong ! All in all, the five day cruise was an amazing value . The Staff of the Carnival Cruise line should be commended for their attitude and effort. We will definitely be back ! Read Less

Well let me start by stating that i'm a frequent cruiser with Carnival, next to be a platinum member,i always had a great time on Carnival cruises, but this one was just ok, the ship shows her age, the staff as usual are great people that works very hard. my biggest disappointment was the cabin, had a balcony , this cabin are very dingy, they need to be refit, the curtain had holes from cigarette burns, door in the bathroom was all rusty, the furniture, and the rest of the cabin are very rundown ,and in a desperate need of refurbishment, i can spend much more time talking about it but guess you have the right idea of what i'm trying to say. The ship is one of the oldest of the Conquest class, i just find out by talking to the staff, that on July 2015 they chance some policy,no more lobster at dinner only on 7 days and up, no more chocolate in your cabin before bed time, and since my last cruise i saw a big decline in the quality of the food on the menu, at the buffet,as well at dinner. the Entertainment is the same pretty lame, i think is time for a change , the shows at the theater are the same since i start cruising, anyhow i'm looking forward to the new ships, a suggestion for new fellows cruisers, choose your destination yes but mainly choose the newest ship possible, try to avoid old ship, i'm glad the Vista is coming to Miami next year Breeze, Magic, Dream, are very good ship but the rest are old,and shows it all over. Review of Carnival Victory ________________________________________________ Ship - Carnival Victory Trip on October 31st 2015 Travel as a solo. Had Cabin # 6217 - Balcony state room So booked this cruise which was a 5 day cruise as a back to back. Had just finished another cruise same day on the Carnival Glory. I have a review on that as well here as well. I providing my personal experience and observation of cruise experience with Carnival Victory. I have to admit my review here is a bit similar to the Glory one. I was able to get a “faster to the fun” option for this cruise and was able to board the ship ahead of everyone else. Finally time came to board and yes I was able to board right away. I will do a separate review of my time in the terminal later. All the staff members were nice and friendly. They really make sure everything's is working, and that you are having a good time. I would suggest checking in before you arrive at the ship, because the lines are LONG if you wait until the day of sailing. Once off the Gangway I proceeded directly onto the ship and went straight to the Lobby bar as my cruise first day ritual. I am smart as not to run up to the buffet right away. First thing I ordered after looking at the drink menu was a cold beer. Can of Heineken served with a frosted glass. So right away this was looking really good and the service from the bartender girl was amazing. Was thanked by first name right away and I was willing to give an extra tip. After drink was finished I went to test the “faster to the fun” option by going to the cabin as the cabin is supposed to be ready early. To which it was ready. Cabin was nice, you can tell the ship was older but things looked very clean. The room was obviously old, but not too bad. Rooms on Victory and being with Carnival I noticed are larger then the cruise i had with NCL. In room my order of bottle of wine and Coke is delivered by my cabin steward. I Made. Very amazing service. So overall this looks like going to be an amazing ship. Ship was very clean overall. Yes a little old but you have to respect a ship that is always going off on a cruise. Gets a beating a bit in the water at times. Good ship, just needs some upgrades. I really really enjoy and thought in the hallways for the cabins. The decor was really neat, with the lighting arrangement quite interesting. The ship is in good shape and clean. The staff is really good. The food was typical cruise fare. There were so many activities that you just can't get to them all. Activities- they had a ton. Never a dull minute on the ship. From mini golf, to life size chess, bingo, casino, night club, trivia, karaoke, spa, arcade for kids, pool, water slide, teens club... They don't lack in things to do on the ship. Carnival seems to get it right being the Fun Ships. You have a cruise director named Brian who does a rock out dance night in the Libo deck. Gets everyone going on you do a Congo line throughout the ship. Food on the ship well. There is food 24/7 so that's always a plus. The pizza spot is one of the 24-hour places and it's delicious. I can say that this ship, while not one of the newer boats, has many attributes that make up for its age.   The food, compared to other cruise lines 3 and 4 night cruises, was really well done in both the dining room and the buffet on lido.  The staff was accommodating and friendly. The semi-formal dinner food that is served every night is delicious and always worth it. I ate in the dining room first night for Anytime dining. Very amazing service, you get like 4 servers, well your host and different people. With each step of the way. Food i had a Beef soup.. Beef strop for main and a the signature Carnival Chocolate melting Cake. So good. Also had a glass of red wine. Selections of wine is good. If you order a bottle and not finish, they put it in the fridge and you can have it later during the week. Other parts of ship for eating, buffet, well lines were abit long on this ship. Selection of buffet is not bad. If you like eating Denny’s food then your good here. However there was a good selection and a really good salad bar. Also there is a Chinese food in the afternoon. They had a midnight Mexican buffet one night on the ship. Amazing!! Casino entertainment is small, there is smoking there, being a non smoker, it was hard, but had fun. They fill you up on drinks all you want. so the fun keeps going. I play some Craps and roulette as well. The casino staff were very helpful and even helped me to one of the machines when i was drinking too much so i could continue my fun. So a few notes to mention. I enjoyed the towel animals on my bed each night Used room service twice a bit slow, waited 45 minutes for a grill cheese and a beer. Still not bad. Then you have to consider the server has to find your room with so many people. So I give them credit for that. Laundry service slow - said they pick up at 10 and return 7pm same evening. i waited 2 days for it, got it 10pm the following day. all well. Also room at night got hot, i think they turn off the AC or something, odd. Overall I rate my time on the Carnival Victory as amazing. I could go on with more things in detail. I will be writing separate reviews of the excursions by Carnival. So would i said Carnival again, yes. Would I sail on Victory again, yes. Only if i had to though, so personally with a new cruise just looking for a new experience. Doing a different ship always makes the difference in experience. Overall I recommend anyone of any age looking to cruise to consider doing one on the Carnival Victory. Thanks again. Read Less

Hi want to start by saying the best part of my trip was Amber cove what a great excursion!!! That being said the food on this cruise was subpar disgusting really, the "off the grill " servers were rude and disinterested, the buns were rock hard yet they continued to serve them with disgusting burgers that probably sat there forever...the staff were excellent overall .the room was ok phone broken, the tiles in bathroom moldy!!! My biggest complaint is that no one including the parents were smart enough to NOT let minors in casino !!! All week that's all I saw I was appalled adults are drinking ,smoking, gambling it's an area for adults but clearly no one cared to not ask the children or their patents to leave!!! That is not acceptable or professional. I go on a cruise to relax as an adult and the one place I do not want to be bothered with children is the casino yet that's what I had to endure not happy at all!!!! I'm booking my next cruise with a different line... That too makes me sad I don't think I could be more disappointed in carnival.. Read Less

I have been on many cruises. Amber Cove is not ready. There were only a few stores open and they had very little stock. This was my second cruise on the Victory. If this had been my first cruise, it would have been my last. Thankfully I have enjoyed many in between. My balcony room was pretty standard. The food was the worst on any cruise I have taken. Several people said they enjoyed the top 10 excursion. I took the sightseeing & shopping. It was so bad that after the second stop I took a taxi back to the port. Embarkation is great because I am platinum and get priority boarding. Debarkation was pretty much the same. The entertainment was ok, I expected more being on a bigger ship. But the customer service desk was the worst of all the cruise ships I have been on. My favorite port is New Orleans. This time I left from Miami. Read Less

I can no longer try to convince people that the food on Carnival ships is good. The food everywhere on this boat was terrible! I am usually not too particular when it comes to food, especially when on a ship, but this was inedible. They did not have a specialty restaurant or we would have eaten there every night! We booked a suite and although the cabin was very large, the upholstered furniture was filthy, the sheets were old and disgusting and the mattress uncomfortable (and after a day of drinking, etc. I can usually sleep anywhere). We booked an excursion that led us to believe we were going to have a private villa to ourselves but it was actually a shared private villa with p to 25 carnival guests. Very misleading but could be corrected with one word.....SHARED private villa. The only way I would go back on Carnival is on a brand new ship. Save yourself a lot of disappointment and do not book on the Victory! Read Less

Over all, we had an okay time. We've had better and worse. First things first, If you HATE cigarette smoke, DO NOT BOOK THIS CRUISE. You will be HIGHLY disappointed. I have been on over 20 cruises and I'm VIP with Carnival and I have never seen a cruise cater more to smokers. One of the nicest places on the ship, deck 9 with the Navy chairs and umbrellas was so cool, then you see all these ash trays. People Smoked in the dance club, casino, lobby, lido. It was smokey!!! I did not get to enjoy the spa/sauna/steam room area, it was very moldy smelling. So, that was out:(. I love to enjoy the steam room and saunas that have a view of the ocean....bummer. There were a lot of weird odors on this ship for some reason. They did a good job of keeping kids out of serenity and aft adult pool, parents didn't help much though sometimes. Like I mentioned, we are VIP with Carnival and I always indicate to them online that we are celebrating an event. This cruise was the first time our special occasion was ever acknowledged in all these years. Disney(BEST cruise ever), Royal(so-so),MSC (Yuck all the way around) and Princess(older people's cruise line) ALL got it right on our one and only cruises with them. Carnival just got it right after teens of cruises. Yay Norman, our headwaiter from Jamaica and Marcelo, the cruise director they both made mention of my birthday. We always cruise for our anniversary and birthdays. The VIFP gift this cruise was a clear VIFP tumbler. The VIFP reunion party has been limited to Platinum and Diamond. It was AWESOME!!!! It was much more intimate and it really felt like we were appreciated by carnival. We were allowed to order whatever we wanted to drink (top shelf included) and as much of it as we could drink. The old parties were massive and we all got pre-made sugary watered down drinks and cheap beer and wine. My only wish is that it would have been earlier in the day on a sea day and not the night before debarkation when most people are winding the drinking down. Maybe that's their intention. Also, as far as the VIFP free drink coupon goes they should let us choose when we want that drink. I don't want to drink at breakfast or have to go sit down in a dining room at brunch to get the drink when there is nothing appetizing on the menu and just plain early to drink for me. As far as entertainment, Carnival has definitely cut back on the shows. There was very little lido deck fun or shows. It was kind of boring. The director, Marcelo, is very witty and entertaining, but he can't be everywhere so he has to really get everyone involved and engaged with the guests. That was lacking. The food was the same menu it has been for the last 13 years, NOTHING has changed (except they don't do free lamb chops anymore). The Pizza guys always have bad attitudes on EVERY carnival ship, what's the deal with that...lol? As far as ports go, we cruise for the sake of the seas and a few of the ports. We do not even get off the boat in the Bahamas, the smell of urine permeates the air as soon as you hit the port, don't know what's happened over the years. Half moon cay is always nice. The water was clean, clear and warm. The buffet lines were easy. Grand Turk was boring as ever. The only thing to do is Margaritaville with its overly expensive drinks and servers who never seem to have change or return with it even though they add gratuities. I spent $13.00 on a watered down 5 o'clock somewhere. Always go to the bar and watch them make your drink, they are more generous. Read Less

Read Less

Dont believe the mehative reviews!! Experienced cruiser- we have sailed with many cruise lines and Carnival does a fantastic job of being well rounded--family activities, food and excellent service. The one area i would suggest improvement would be in adding more entertainment-of the 5 nights 2 nights there were no shows- comedy and passenger talent show which doesnt interest us but obviously lthers liked it. Noelan was our steward and i cant thank him enough for going above and beyond to make my 2.5 year old excited to see him everytime woth extra towel animals- paper folded critters etc. Rosul our waiter was fantastic didnt miss a beat-woth his assisyant Ahmed-learned pur tastes and made suggestions for us and always made sure to have crayons awaiting my little guy and ice cream resdy as soon as he finished his main. We will continue to be fans of carnival! It was sad to see they didnt leave the tip envelopes in your room the second to last night-i would imagine less and less people leave extra on their own-- the crew is hard working and they deserve the monetary and verbal thank you. This vessel is old and the rooms are run down and shabby. The activities on the ship are pathetic and minimal....the focus is selling guests something....not entertaining The buffet is more or less the same every day and the timing is not coordinated at all- When the kids needed to be picked up at 5 at the Kids Camp- everything was closed...so although they were hungry and tired from the busy day- there was no way to get them food. The restaurant menu was more or less the same as the buffet- after seeing the buffet with the children- we saw the same things used on the restaurant menus. There was only Chinese food...which was the same every day...no sushi or Indian food as I have seen on other cruises. Even the sandwiches were bad- grilled to the point of being burnt. There was no specialty restaurants even if you wanted to pay extra. When we bought steak in the restaurant it was a fillet mignon for an extra $20- it was ordered medium and came dry and tasteless- when we sent it back they just asked if we wanted something else but did not credit us.....it was awful. The lobster tail was good- but that is about it Even the shrimp cocktail was tiny....and the salads were super small. We were assigned the 6PM tables- but requested 8:15 for the 3 adults. We had some lovely hostess the first night that worked with us- but when we came back the second night- a gentleman insisted that we did not eat there and only he would have seated us. He was totally rude- and eventually told us to come back in 1/2 hour- which we did and he was nowhere in sight. We ended up getting seated by the same women that seated us at first. When we went to Half Moon Cay there was no equipment available- not a wave runner or even a noodle for the water- nothing....there were not even enough chairs for the people that were there.....and the chairs were side by side and packed in. It was not relaxing or beautiful- it was totally commercial. I would absolutely NEVER travel on one of these cruises again....EVER We travel extensively- and understand it is difficult to manage a large group- but there is no excuse for rudeness- no excuse for run down rooms- no excuse for the total neglect and incompetence. One more thing...the photographs they try to do some tricky math to get you roped in to buying the canvas prints- we are smarter than that but not everyone is....We asked them to hold some of our photos so we could make our final edit on the last day- The first person we worked with saved them- the next one told us it was not possible until he found our saved photos already being held I felt like I was being conned and cheated the whole time. I understand this is not the top of the line luxury cruise- but if I cruise again I will pay the price. The advertise a class of service that does not exist on this ship. The spa services were good- but again- they were pushing products on us for 10-15 minutes of what should have been spa services. Read Less

Built in 2000, the ship is truly showing its age, like a tired old Las Vegas hotel that has seen its day and made its every dollar. The ship smells musty and like cigarette smoke everywhere you go.I booked a junior suite (front top corner with balcony) on this ship, knowing that while Carnival is not top ranking in luxury (to say the least), that it would at least be somewhat nice. The upholstry in my suite was just not acceptable. The carpet was not only coming apart at its seams, but stained a million times over, the chairs were covered in stain and the leather sofa had stuffing coming out of its seams. The hard surfaces were scratched, knicked, scuffed and beaten to death. The lights in the room were all different colors of flourescents, the overhead light dimmers shorted out and EVERY SINGLE NIGHT the room was burning up as if the air did not cool correctly (it was reported, but was not corrected). The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub, but smelled of a weird sewer smell covered up by a citrus smell (others on the ship spoke of this in their bathrooms). The balcony was nice and the layout of the room was very comfortable and nice - but the suite, like the entire ship, is shopworn. Also, the floorplan of the ship features limited pool space and public rooms despite how many passenger cabins it has - as if they tried to pack as many passengers on as possible. Also, the Serenity Sun Deck, which is one of my favorite spots on Carnivals ships, (adults only for quiet privacy), was on the front of the ship instead of on the back, which made it noisey from the loud music on the main deck. The entertainment on the ship was fantastic. Two shows with an incredible cast, a great emcee\cruise director (Marcello) a fantastic piano bar pianist\singer and an Asian rock band playing tunes. The food was great and the dining room staff is absolutely fantastic. Carnival does a REALLY AWESOME job training their employees and it shows. Their customer service is awesome and genuine - these people love helping people. Although I love their service and their overall concept, Carnival is just not my scene. Ive been on several of their cruises and personally feel that they cater to and focus on more of a clientele that likes to drink, smoke, gamble, party with loud music, eat a lot and is easily satisfied with mediorcre accommodations. If thats not you, then try another line like Royal Caribbean. Read Less

No reason to complain..its everything you need and a tad more.. The staff work very hard to please and go out of their way to make you happy without complaining, very friendly. The food was great...the buffet lines were long but if you chose a buffet line that is just what it is...a line! If you prefer not to wait ...go to the dining room.. The ship was very very clean...which is most important in housing people..its like visiting some ones home ..who wants to visit a dirty home..no one! This ship is perfectly fine whoever reads this have no fear and do not hesitate in any way to book the carnival victory..you will love it!!!!! Read Less

First cruise, didn't really know what to expect. But, here are my thoughts on the Carnival Victory .... 1) lunch lines were very long, there was no way to get to a salad without going thru an entire line of other foods. 2) Salad choices were VERY limited at lunch. (a nice salad bar, away from the other food would have been a nice. 3) the Serenity Lounge offered an adults only deck area BUT it was directly above a kiddy pool, which disrupted the serenity of the Serenity Lounge 4) the rooms had plenty of storage, but were in need of an update (the appointment were old) - old phones, old hairdryers (which burned your hand while you dried your hair), out dated TVs, trim around bathroom door was rusty, tiles were lose, etc... 5) thousands of pictures posted each night seemed like a waste of photo paper, when all pictures taken could have been digitized and sent directly passengers rooms for viewing - and purchase could be made thru interactive TV - current method is dated and doesn't take advantage of available technologies 6) the steward staff taking care of the rooms were GREAT! as was the dinner staff waiting on our table. BUT - the remainder of the staff wasn't that helpful and often was unable to answer basic questions about how to get from here to there on the boat - All employees should be able to provide passengers basic info about the ship and where things are located. 7) we did a couple of excursions and enjoyed them, attended a couple of shows, and saw enough Karaoke to last a lifetime. Not sure I'll try another cruise - but I am sure it won't be on the Victory. Read Less

My family cruised July 6-11. This is a 15 year old ship but doesnt really show much wear and tear. The embarkation process went very smooth, I would encourage you to do as much preregistration and setting up of sail and sign accounts prior to cruising. Its make the process much faster. Be sure to have all of the required documents. Please keep in mind that there is a 12.00/day/per person gratuity added to the bill at the end of the cruise. I say this because there were a lot of people on our ship not wanting to pay the gratuity. Guest services was slammed with people complaining. It was very tacky. I felt sorry for the carnival employees. I am not sure if the gratuities were refunded but those people should be ashamed. The gratuities go to the room stewards and dining room staff. People should stay home if they are not going to pay the gratuities. Carnival should send them a bill because that was part of the contract. PRO's 1. Rooms spacious and clean 2. Food is decent. It is not 4 star but it is not bad. Burgers, dogs, chicken nuggets, fries for lunch. Fruits and salads available. You have to pay for soda but lemonade, iced tea and coffee are free. You can go to the formal dining area for an opportunity to have more of a fine dining experience. The warm chocolate melting cake is great! There are themed meal nights. 3. Staff is very visible and helpful. Eager to provided excellent service. 4. Lots of activities aboard the ship. Some are an additional cost (bingo) 5. Casino fun and busy - People really do win! Con's 1. Need more structured activities for the teens 2. Pools are small but there are three pools and 4 hot tubs 3. Wish we had more time at each port We enjoyed ourselves. Carnival is the "fun ship" line. Expect noise, partying, families with small children, all ethnicities. If your looking for quite and serene look elsewhere, but if your looking for fun then Carnival is for you! Read Less

The dining room had great food, in fact one of the best I've had in awhile, Everything was always fresh and hot. Normally you will always have a few items not so hot and fresh, something cold or just not cooked right. But we NEVER had a complaint. I think early dining has a lot to do with it. The shows: singers and dancers were very good, just like a Las Vegas show. Not just your regular cruise show. The reviews I read had me worried that the ship was not so good, so I was greatly surprised at how great everthing was. Yes there are some out dated colors on the ship and bits of rust here and there, but it can't be perfert year round. The crew always did everything I asked for with a smile. Read Less

Overall, we had a fun time and the cruise exceeded our expectations. We knew we weren't in for a luxurious vacation and were looking for a short, fun getaway as a family. This is exactly what we had! Positives: *Room steward (Suardana) was fantastic! He was pleasant, efficient and did a great job with our room! *Service in general was efficient and friendly. *Camp Carnival facilities were fine. The adult/camper ratio was appropriate as was the check-in/check out procedure so I felt that my daughter was safe and well-supervised. They also had several creative activities planned. The hours were great and the additional fees for later hours are more than reasonable. *Entertainment was good. *Food during sit-down meals was good to very good (not great...but as good as I've had on other more expensive lines). *Staff was CONSTANTLY moving/working! I felt that things were attended to very quickly. EVERY staff member we came in contact with was pleasant. *There was a very brief power outage one night and the engine stopped. The overhead communication was good and the staff on our floor was calm and handled everything well. *The "faster to the fun" for $60 for the whole cabin (3 of us) was brilliant! It was so convenient and would have been totally worth it if it were $60 per PERSON! Needs Improvement: *As others have said, the lines for the buffet are ridiculous! They need more food options or to spread it out more. *Camp Carnival: I realize others rave about this program, but I was disappointed how little it seemed the counselors engaged with the children and/or facilitated interactions between the children. I even asked the person checking our daughter in if they did anything to introduce the children. In all fairness, I'm an elementary school teacher so this seemed like a no brainer to me. She looked at me like I was crazy and said, "No, they all just come in and play together." They essentially bring the kids in, have activities available and expect them to automatically engage with activities/each other. Our daughter is pretty social so she said it was fine the few times she went, but I imagine it's a pretty unpleasant experience for a child who isn't so social or has a little more anxiety. In fact, I saw a parent dropping off a 4 year old (approx) for the first time. He was clearly nervous (appropriately...not overly anxious) and there were no efforts on the part of the adults to help him transition...they just opened the door. My daughter (7) wanted to return to watch the movie. Before she went in, I suggested to her quietly that it would be nice if she helped him get adjusted which I saw her do right away. The parent turned around and thanked me. Again, the staff ratio is great and the camp has the potential to be SO much better. I found the steward, dining staff and even servers walking around the pool to be SO much more engaging with our daughter and other children than I observed the staff in Camp Carnival. *Buffet food leaves a lot to be desired. *Way too many picture stands set up! It would be comical if it didn't block the flow of traffic so much. Also, the quality of some of the pictures was RIDICULOUS! One night, they had a cute Dr. Seuss backdrop. My daughter went to have her picture taken. The poses were all a little cheesy, but one picture would have been a fun keepsake. I had my rather nice camera with me (as I always do because I'm into photography). The "photographer" held up his hand and shook his head as if to tell me not to take a picture. I understand this is a form of making money, but it was a little odd and offensive that he reacted this way simply at the sight of my camera hanging on my shoulder. To make it worse, the pictures came out the next day....and Dr. Seuss's head was completely cut off in all 5 pictures he took! "Professional" pictures from the Dr. Seuss breakfast were ALL terribly overexposed. Fortunately, I was able to take a few in there with my own camera. In short, we will absolutely travel Carnival again! I do think we would like to try a new ship with additional food options. Read Less

I am not sure this is a vacation. Yes, you do not have to go to work but so many things on this ship require so much work to get done. Before we talk about the bad, let us acknowledge the good. My cabin 7338 and Steward Haru were very good. The cabin is old ( so old a picture LITERALLY fell off the wall in the middle of the night!) but the location is perfect. Quick access to things and a nice view. Haru was a magician at getting it clean when we left for breakfast etc. Of my 30 plus cruises, this guy was probably the best Steward I had. Our dining room staff was also very good. Prompt service and attentive. Courteous, no qualms with those boys. The bad- 1) The food is terrible most of the time. I am trying to be fair here, there are some things to eat but a lot of the stuff that is served is just bad. Eggs Benedict and the sauce is hard as well as the yolks, GROSS. The fish was all terrible and the beef under cooked and of poor quality. You can find some things to eat but it just takes some time and choosing. Which brings us to number 2 2) Getting food is impossible a lot of the time. The lines to the buffet are atrocious. The service in the morning in the dining room is among the worst I have ever seen. Getting a second cup of coffee requires tracking down an attendant and the Benedict when it comes out is still over cooked like it has been sitting on the heat lamp for 20 minutes ( in that it took 30 minutes to hit the table I far that is the case). 3) Which brings us to late night dining. Well, there is only two options. 1) Room Service, which was decent enough. I think the selections are quite limited but at least it came reasonably quick and the Pizza Guy. OMG, no, do not show up here late at night hungry. There are going to be 20 other people in your same situation and one lonely guy trying to feed them all. In stead of racks of pizza in the warmer ready to be eaten, you have one poor guy trying to make pizza's from scratch as quickly as possible. The pizza is good but waits up to 30 minutes are not uncommon. Then, they are served at the counter to the left, although everyone is line up at the counter to the right. Cutting in line is common and comical as no one knows what the hell is going on but everyone is hungry. I hope one slice fills you up, because if not you are back in line and the chaos starts all over again. One of the worst managed operations I have ever seen in any business. Awful. 4)The gym is very cool and the steam room in the gym is a 10 even though it did not get all that hot. Check it out, it is amazing! 5) Shows are poor. Singing was good but the dancers seem to have no rhythm. Content was otherwise normal for cruise ships. Comedy was simply not funny. BT, I think was her name. Pass. The bands on board are very good. I thought the music was jamming most places I went. No problems here and above most industry standards. 6) The ship is just old. It is nasty. As you walk around you will see a lot of people staning around and disrepair everywhere you look. I was excited for the cruise as it just got out of dry dock but they did not fix so many things. Molding is coming up, dirt, just a lot of ageing that needs some attention but most workers are milling around not really working. Not sure if it is understaffed or poor management but I lean hard to the latter. 7) The decor is ugly to me. Yes, it is personal but it is ugly and dated. No wow factor here. 8) I thought the mini golf was good. Water slide decent. Pools too small but I this is common in the industry too ( only so much space) My kids loved the camp. 9) Embarkation and disembarkation below standard for the industry. 10) Picutres, please cruise on RCCL and update the archaic picture system of this ship. It is a joke. I have cruised a lot and on all the lines. I am not sure I get Carnival. If you are going to get so drunk on 7 dollar beers that you do not notice, then maybe this is the cruise for you. If you work hard for your money and expect a little better service and organization, then other lines are way ahead of this game. If you like waiting in lines for food you will simply love this cruise! Read Less

This was my first cruise (for approximately $1600.00) and I must say, I expected considerably better. The son of one of our friends was getting married on the ship. We were invited to the wedding, and decided to stay for the cruise to Key West and Cozumel. The wedding was lovely and the wedding reception following, a lot of fun. The food at the wedding reception was quite good as well, and I expected that the food for the duration of the cruise would be even better. I was very wrong. In fact, the food served at the wedding reception was the only decent meal we had while on board the ship. With respect to the food, I have one general comment: very bland and served at an incorrect temperature. With omelettes being the exception, the breakfast offerings were served at room temperature (Salmon Benedict and hash browns as an example) while others were served barely warm (grits). The coffee was positively dreadful, and the coffee purchased at the coffee bar, not much of an improvement. Dinner was fairly lackluster. I've had better meals at the local Piccadilly cafeteria. The meals served aboard the Victory make Longhorn and Bonefish look like five star dining venues. At any rate, I really enjoyed Key West and Cozumel. Luckily, we had phenomenal food at both of those destinations and many enjoyable activities. Our accommodations aboard the ship would have been fine if it were not for the potheads in the cabin next to ours, smoking joints on their balcony and playing loud music at all hours of the night. Why they drew such attention to themselves is beyond me. Armed law enforcement officers came for them, once we were back in Miami (I don't know why they waited so long). I really believe these idiots were responsible for our debarkation running 2.5 hours behind schedule. Oh well. Our room, although obviously aging (tears in the curtains and broken plastic venting over the lights) was kept very clean and tidy. Every evening, our cabin steward had towel creations waiting for us. I was really impressed with the gym onboard the ship. Lots of nice equipment, and a great view of the ocean while working out. I also loved the Alchemy Bar. All the drinks were made with fresh ingredients. Thanks to all the Cruise Critic members that have provided the recipes for these drinks on this forum. Wouldn't you know it, the only drink that I cannot find the recipe for is The Remedy. That was my favorite Alchemy drink, and I keep experimenting with the proportions on the ingredients, and still cannot get it right. I thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment. While on the ship, I was able to attend a couple of musical renditions (very talented performers), and a couple of comedy skits. All were quite good. I do not think that I will ever take a Carnival cruise again, and certainly, not on the Victory. I look forward to cruising on either Royal Caribbean or Princess in the future. Read Less

DJ Devine was always making sure everyone was dancing, if they weren't he would stop the song and play another until everyone was dancing again. Donkey is a great new asset to Carnival he was so energetic and very refreshing. We requested a table for two since this was the first cruise in along time our son did not come with us and we wanted to be alone and the Maitre'd honored our request. The ports were terrific. Our balcony room on the Lido deck was great. No complaints ever on our end. A job very well done by the the staff of the Victory. Read Less
