Special needs son request mocked by employee and corporate not making it right If you have a child with a disability do not cruise carnival. The ship itself was average, the same you will find on all cruise lines for its age/class. The splash pad is in a horrible location where it is super loud (ship engine, thrusters, smoke stacks)and windy. Most other cruise lines have the splash area on the main lido deck where it is not as loud and more accessible. The kids club would did not have an igloo slide like pictured and will combine all age groups when not a lot of kids were there, which is tough on a child with special needs. They would be in one room one time then the other the next and then not being allowed over at other times which for kids can be frustrating “why can’t I go over there and play the video games?” “Why can’t my sister be in my room now, she was yesterday?” Just be consistent, either keep them separated the whole cruise or keep them combined. Consistency is key. Other cruise lines offer the same/or better kids areas and accommodations for special needs kids specifically Royal and Norwegian. Food is average with cruise line industry, but if you have dietary needs consider another line. We put in our concerns when booking and then after paid in full checking to make sure my son would be accommodated. On the ship, they had no note of it and then took 4 days to be correct and multiple trips to maitre d, chef, & guest service. Other cruise lines it takes 1 meal and then everything is usually correct by the next one. Here is a specific incident where an employee did not take my child’s disability seriously & corporates response as well... On 9/30 I went to the unicorn cafe to get a straw for my disabled son, who can’t drink without one.(I had brought 2 reusable cups for him to use on the trip, but unfortunately one was lost and the other broke right before this incident) The employee told me they didn’t have one, but I could go to the Serenity Bar to get one. I went to the bar and asked for a straw. Another guest said “turtle killer” and laughed. The bar server laughed and called me a “murder”. I told my mom what happened and she immediately went to guest services. While talking to guest services she was overwhelmed and had to lay on the stairs. She text me and told me I had to come down there, because whenever she spoke about the incident her head hurt and felt like it would explode. I walked my mom over and talked to the bar manager who apologized for taking so long, but he was speaking with the server who said he did not say anything to me. He told the bar manager the guest called me that and he said nothing. I told him to check the tapes because you will see he said it to me after the guest. He said he would have a meeting with all the staff and make sure no one says anything to guests. My mom then bought medicine and laid in her room. I contacted guest care when we were in port and told them what happened and that my mom was not getting better and I felt unsafe on the ship. The lady apologized and asked if I and all my party had our passports and belongings and if we were ready to leave now. I said yes and she then said she just had to verify for protocol that I informed guest services on the ship and then she would refund our money and send us home from Hawaii. She put me on hold to verify with guest services, when she got back she said guest service on the ship had no record of the incident and said I did not come down so unfortunately she could not help me until I went to the ship. If they do not resolve it I could then contact them once I was off the ship to help, which I assumed would honor the refund. On 10/11 I went to guest services to get a copy of incident-in case when I called they said there was no record like on 10/6 and was told they could not share it with me. I asked to see a security officer and was denied saying my safety was not a concern. I told them I had to return my “serenity pool towel” to guest services because I did not feel safe going in that area or any area that employee could be. I was then told that the employee was reprimanded and only told me to “save planet earth” when I said that was incorrect and sounds nothing like “murder” they changed it to “save Mother Earth”. I then felt like they were trying to cover up the issue instead of taking responsibility and insisted on seeing security who took a full statement, but would not allow my mother who had medical issues from the incident to give a statement. The officer told me he would investigate. I was then contacted and the officer said the bar manager told him it was carnival policy to tell all guests who request a straw to “save the environment” I asked why this was not mentioned 11days earlier and why the server lied saying he said nothing when initially asked. I also said it sounds nothing like “murder” so then after talking with the manager again I was told I just didn’t understand the servers accent. Then the manager tried to convince security by saying "save Mother Earth" as fast as he could to show it sounded similar, but it did not and I stated this was insulting and not what the server said. Also, no other servers the entire cruise mentioned “saving the environment or planet or Mother Earth” I also said that telling me that would be inappropriate since it is for my disabled son who can’t drink without a straw, but the server crossed the line and made me feel unsafe by calling me a “murder”. The servers put straws without any request into alcoholic drinks continuously without mentioning the environment. When I got home I contacted customer care again. I shared the information and was told by Ingrid that I misunderstood the employee and they would give me $50 credit to a future cruise. I said I don’t feel safe especially since everyone is covering up for the employee and that $50 didn’t even cover the cups I had to buy in port because I felt unsafe asking for straws and guest service on the ship lied to her colleague. My mom then contacted Sergio and was told it would go under manager review and we would be contacted. Three weeks later I called again since no one contacted us. I spoke to Ariadne who first said my booking was cancelled and then found it. She insisted I misunderstood and that the case was closed. She also denied my request to speak to a supervisor and said I could contact BBB or whoever else I felt since they never give refunds. I contacted BBB and corporate insisted I misunderstood the server, even though the employee's story changed and was documented in my statement to security that they said one thing and changed to another and the bar manager admitted this in front of the security officer. I pleaded with corporate to just view the videos and deal accordingly with its employees so this would not happen to anyone else, but they maintain that I misunderstood. The video would show the server laughing at me and if someone could read lips he stated one word “murder” in no scenario is that appropriate wether for myself or my disabled child-either would telling me to save the Earth especially after acknowledging another guest just called me a “turtle killer” why an employee would laugh and say anything is beyond comprehension, but for a company to cover it up is unimaginable. I have cruised carnival in the past and recommended them over Norwegian, Royal, Holland, Princess, and Disney, but not anymore. I do not feel safe and at the end of the day no one deserves to be treated like that with or without a disability. Please consider carefully on your next cruise to choose a company with integrity and find the truth not just what suits there bottom dollar. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I got a very good price for a solo inside cabin. I had had Jen Baxter as a cruise director before. She still is a great cruise director. 10 sea days, but lots of activities planned for each sea day(lots of trivia). As this was a Hawaii cruise I did go to Hula lessons. Cabin was ok. Nita, cabin stewardess was great! Food overall was good, but I did have a few main entrees that were not good(for example-lamb that was too tough to cut),and some appetizers that were not good. Poor selection of teas-only Lipton and green tea bags offered. Desserts were mostly very good but for one night grand marnier souffle that was more of a cake than souffle. All musicians were very good! I especially liked rock band Hot Shots in Red Frog Pub! They were fantastic! Danced a lot to their music! This was one of the best cruises I have taken(over 27 cruises)! Husband's retirement cruise. It was a wonderful and relaxing 16 days. The weather was good except the 1st day out was a little rough. Didn't meet our cabin stewart until day 10 but we were always out and about . There was always something going on. Our room was always clean and ice in our room every day. Ate most dinners in the MDR and went to Seaday Brunch a couple of times. Food was always good and service was never slow. Lunch was usually the buffet or Guys burgers,Went to the main show every night and most were enjoyable as were the comedians. The Hot Shots in the Red Frog Pub were great and we tried to catch the Emerald Trio whenever they played. The casino was fun but not profitable. This was the best cruise we have ever taken and we would love to do it again someday. Read Less

First let me apologize for missing the Meet and Mingle. I’m legally blind, and did not see it in the Fun Times. Overall, the Cruise was great! My hubby, Guide Dog, Chuck, and I boarded the ship in Vancouver, Canada,. We had no problems doing this. The only thing I would change here if I could, the rooms were blocked off till 1:30. On past ships, we have been able to find our room, if it was ready, we could go in. Our MDR was the Truffles Restaurant on Deck 2. Our table mates were nice people and we exchanged fb info with one of them. Our waiter staff was John Raymon ( I think is how he spelled his name) . He was so nice and good that we left him extra tip at the end. The food on the other hand was a bit boring. I did enjoy the vegetarian lasagna. Also I discussed my fav herbal tea there is Coconut Cream. While on board, we also tried Guys Burgers and the Blue Iguana. Both of these were VERY GOOD! Our 1st port of call was Juneau. Here we went on a bus city tour and an Alaskan Salmon Bake. The salmon was smoked over a fire. The best! The next port was Skagway. Here we to a Bordello Breakfast at the Red Onion Saloon. After this we went to an old cemetery. We finished our day by shopping. Our next day was cruising through Glacier Bay. This was exciting! My hubby saw an orca that morning. The rangers that came on board were knowledgeable . Our final port Ketchikan. This was my favorite. We started off the morning by shopping. Then we met our Guide, Derrick. He took us to the Totem Brite National Park. Derrick told us stories of each part of the totem poles. He took us to the clan house and described what it had been like to live there. Read Less

I have to start with I was initially disappointed with how old the ship looked and the windows were dirty. After we settled in to our balcony room which was perfect, our room steward greeted us by name and was truly the best! Although the ship was older nothing was in really bad condition. The crew was amazing and the entrainment was also amazing. I loved going to the comedy clubs. This cruise went to Alaska so we had to find things to do because we couldn’t enjoy the sun and pool. We loved hanging out in the casino which we actually did well. The staff was very organized when stopping at ports and the excursions we chose were awesome. The cruise director Jen was awesome. She was funny and always interacting with guests. The food was very good but we didn’t go to the restaurants. We had a wonderful time so I just booked another carnival cruise on carnival magic. We were worried about going so early in the season, but we only needed our coats one day. The weather was beautiful, and we liked the ship. Smaller sized ship that’s a bit outdated, but Jen the CD and the employees in the casino bar, sports bar, and MDR were very friendly and fun. We upgraded to a premium balcony-worth it for the room and balcony size! We were in 6279, and I’d book it again! While it’s an older ship, I liked the smaller size and smaller capacity. Food was same as always-good- and the speakers about Alaska were very knowledgeable. Don’t miss CIA (Caught in Action), the band that plays-really great singers and performers! Casino was tight. We did the Taku Lodge seaplane excursion, which was interesting, but there’s not a lot to do after you eat the salmon lunch (it was dry.). We also did the train in Skagway-I recommend upgrading to the VIP car for free drinks and appetizers, as well as the personalized tour information and comfortable seats! Very few kids on this cruise, and friendly guests and employees. While I crossed it off my bucket list, I’d do it again for sure! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to visit the Hawaiian Islands, and start in Vancouver so we could see the sites there. To the positive of Carnival, we went on a cruise with them last November, and loved the Splendor! We are not complainers, and usually only take reviews of ships with a grain of salt, because a lot of reviewers seem to expect so much!! However! This ship and cruise was honestly from hell I must say! Embarking in Vancouver was the biggest screwed up situation I have ever encountered! Lines upon lines to get on the ship! We were in line I think for well over an hour. Carnival workers said they were working with a new system, ok..well set a really bad precedent to begin with. We get on the ship and went to have lunch... Tried to go to our room around 115-130 and the elevator area is filled with tons of luggage with a communication that the elevators were not available because they were dispersing luggage..I mean stacks upon stacks of luggage on huge carts looking really unorganized!. We finally get to our room, and start to try and settle in...We notice the room is warm, so we tried to turn the dial of the thermostat? Down..it is not a thermostat, only some sort of dial for hotter or colder .It didn’t get cooler...but a fan from the system came on in the middle of the night... Now cold in the morning, no warm air when we turned the stupid dial to warm the cabin. We called the room steward beginning at 7am, finally showed up around 830 am. We complained to him about the heat, and that the fridge didn’t work. His name was Paul, and he was a gem the whole time. He even had to carry a replacement fridge on his own back to get that fixed the same day. He was one of the few bright spots on this cruise. After this, things become a blur. The heat was not fixed, then we were sailing into warmer waters the day after emarking. The room was of course heating up, and low and behold the air conditioning didn’t work. At the same time that afternoon around 4pm we started hearing the children next door jumping, hopping, screaming and yelling running back and forth. We tried to go out to the balcony for some quiet.. well, their balcony door opened, and now they were yelling out the balcony door, still chasing each other back and forth yelling. The issues with no air conditioning and screaming, children running around the ship, (their parents with them) continued the whole time during the cruise, children doing that in many cabins...I had to leave my balcony because of screaming children, usually starting about 6pm to 9pm. The dining room was also another huge dissappointment. I had put in my reservation last February we wanted a table for 2. My husband has some health issues that require him to sometime use an inhaler during a meal when he is having trouble breathing. We were seated the first night with a table with 4 other people, extremely difficult for my husband to respond to verbal communication while trying to eat and breath all at the same time. We left message for the maitre d twice, no response at all. When we tried to address it with other staff at the dining room, they said we had to speak with the maitre d. Then we had debarking at ports; my god what another horror show!! Each one was late, the tendering port, we couldn’t get to the port until 1130 am.. By that time, no reason to try and get the rental car we had already paid for.. We did go to the Guest Services desk I think the 19th am and spoke to a pinch faced younger light brown haired girl that did not offer to help, even after we voiced our concerrns. We asked when automatic gratuities would be added as we wanted to only tip the people we felt should be tipped. She told us Friday after next. She was very dismissive and very unhelpful. We also stopped by the excursion desk at the time to ask questions and the young gentleman there with light, possibly reddish hair was also very unhelpful and dismissive like we were just a pain in his ass. Suffice to say, by the 9th day, we got off the ship in Kauai and had a drink in a very quiet bar and decided we would just get off the ship 2 days early, stay in Kauai and fly to Honolulu (ships destination) where we had reservations at another hotel for 2 days to enjoy Honolulu. We made this decision to try and salvage any vacation time we had left, at great expense I might add. We had to of course let guest services know, and the lovely lady who helped us was quite apologetic, vowed to fix things, and tried very hard to get us to change our minds, but we were just done. The head of Guest Services came to hear our concerns as well, but like I said, we were just done with the Legend...It was only in dry dock in April, I don’t understand why air conditioning, heat, refrigerators etc don’t work, many hand railings loose, sometimes not attached at all, then some staff members just don’t seem to care. We have another cruise booked with Carnival in May 2019 on the Conquest, with several family member going as well...we are thinking of maybe cancelling and just getting a vacation rental in Miami.. We joined a group and wanted to visit Hawaii. Overall its been an OK cruise mostly because of entertainment and tender ports. The ship isn't big with 2000 passengers but it still took over an hour to disembark. The worst performance in over 15 cruises. Service in cabins and at dinner is excellent. Music entertainment is repetitive and when asked about introducing dance music... we were told the music is what it is and we will not change a thing. The ship feels run down with rust appearing on a lot of iron railing, the wood siding is also in bad shape. The cabin steward is as good as it gets, making personal contact enjoyable. The dinner service with the head waiter and help is some of the best we ever had. The decor can be overwhelming with a lot adsrk brown panel. You feel a little crowded in. We are planning other cruises and it will not be with Carnival. Read Less

I chose this cruise as a way to get to Hawaii and see all the different islands. It served that purpose, and I enjoyed the trip overall. The naturalist on board was very personable and knowledgeable. As others have mentioned, the cabin was cold most of the time and there was no way to turn on the heat. I had a sweater, so it wasn't too big a problem. My main complaint is that they interrupted dinner with a lot of raucous singing and dancing by the waiters, all, I suppose, in the name of fun. I hated it. I also hated the high volume of music in the fitness center. Even with earphones I could not hear the TV I tried to watch while working out. The entertainment was so-so. As on my previous Carnival cruise, the dancers pretended to sing by lip-syncking into phoney microphones. This, too, was at high decibels. Since I knew noise was the way on Carnival, I would have chosen a different line if the itinerary had been as good. Read Less

We have wanted to do a Hawaiian. Getting on the ship in Vancouver was nice and easy. We sailed on time and always arrived to our port early. The ship itself is in need for refurbishment right away. It seems like it's overdue for one for about 2/3 years ago. The ship is unique and has its own beauty. I did live all the granite and marble just not all the vases or whatever they are supposed to be. Our balcony room was nice and our room steward Roger was very attentive. We went to dine at the main restaurant and went on our time with a table just for us two. Our server Ni Wayan was good. Hostess Rosetilla was always a pleasure to talk with. The few times we ate the the buffet it was okay. The food in the main restaurant was also okay. Really enjoyed one dinner the most of the grilled chicken. Pool area and other public area was kept nice and clean but also in need of new life. Did really enjoy doing the Green Thunder slide. Adult Serenity area was always packed and busy. Gym area was adequate and did love doing the steam and sauna room. It should have been cleaner but it seems like once again it needs a refurbishment. The casino bar staff were excellent. Shelon and Evan always had a nice welcoming smile. The shops had your normal cruise stuff. The dancers and singers sorry to say was one of the worst ones I have ever seen. They were just not good and it was also what seemed low budget. The ports were your normal Hawaiian ports and we did our excursions on out own. Did really enjoy the carnival journeys experience over all. They really went out with bringing the local Hawaiian culture on board. They outdid themselves at the midnight gala. Read Less

The food could have been better but it wasn't bad. The cruise director is good she is very entertaining and the shows weren't bad either. There was a girl at customer service desk I think her name was Katherina, she only got on Vancouer with us, She was very, very helpful she is a carnival super star. Would I go on carnival again the answer is yes, I am booking a Alaska cruise as we speak. There could have been a little ore to do on the days at sea. The tours on the islands were very educational. You must take a tour for there are no stores or anything at the ports of call except Kona and Honolulu. Read Less

This was our 10th Carnival cruise and first time on the Legend and yes...the ships decor is a bit off and the ship could use some freshing up, but otherwise it was a very enjoyable cruise with the new journey concept..more to that later. Getting on the ship in Vancouver was a breeze..no issues..were on the ship within an hour. Since this was a Hawaiian cruise during our 10 days on the ship we saw a lot of Hawaiian themes..food buffet...Hula dance lessons, Hawaiin deck party, Hawaiiian singers and a Luau. Part of the journey concep was also the return of the midnight buffet which was very well done. We ate once at the steakhouse which is totally worth the $35.00 per person. The hotel manager greeted us at our table which was a nice touch...overall the senior officers including the captain were quite visible throughout the cruise. The food overall was very good, however the breakfast buffet needs to improve on healthier options. Entertainment was very good..enjoyed the comedians and the hypnotist. The performers were very good as well... the 70's and 80's Rock Show was the best I have seen on any cruise so far! We also took ballroom dance classes which were offered twice a day on sea days..we had a lot of fun..thank you Frances and Myron! Our cruise director Jen was quite entertaining as well..saw her a lot around the ship. The shore excursions we took in each port were outstanding...including a Pearl Harbor tour ..all tour guides were quite knowledgable about their islands...the captain zodiac snorkeling adventure in Kona was the best!. Overall the staff on the ship was friendly as always..would recommend this cruise to explore the Hawaiian islands. Read Less

This wa an anniversary cruise. I chose it because Hawaii was a destination I've always wanted to visit, and this was a journey cruise. I was not disappointed. Embarkation was very smooth. Because of my Loyalty Status, I was able to jump lines, but it still seemed to go pretty quickly. Debarkation was smooth. We had an excursion to the USS Missouri, so we were among the first off the ship. Our cabin was ready when we got there. The steward greeted us and asked our preferences. They were all honored. The ship is fairly old. The balcony, bathroom and a closet door was tricky, but not enough of an annoyance to complain. 5 sea days, always something, or nothing to do. We did not go to any shows...just seemed to be doing something else. Most are the same. We don't do the comedy shows..a little too raw for us. Food was great; throw back sea day with 80s theme deck party. Old school Midnight Buffet. Old school captains reception with complimentary food and drinks...loved this cruise. Crew was wonderful, ship was beautiful, food delicious. All 4 of our excursions were through Carnival, and they were all great. The tour guides were knowledgeable, fun and engaging. Enough "potty breaks'. Not really an option to get food, and unlike the Caribbean cruises, there weren't any stops for souvenairs, other than in the places we stopped for excursions, which on these, were purchasing products, and not souvenirs. The actual ports were working import/export ports, so you had to get away to shop or discover.this was at all 5 Hawaiian ports. We would definately do,this one again. This was a repositioning cruise for the Legend...I would love to have done a B2B2B...Alaska to Vancouver to Hawaii to Australia! Read Less

This will be lengthy but I just have to "vent". We were in the terminal almost ready for customs. Carnival personnel informed us we had to step aside and have our liquor bottles stamped. We had already read that we were entitled to one bottle of wine each in our carry on. My husband and I each had one. People ahead of us had wine and some soft drinks. The wine and soft drinks were all confiscated and we were told they would be returned to us at the end of the cruise. We all went to Guest Services and were told they would be returned to our rooms in a couple of days. This was not acceptable to any of us. In the end the confiscated items were delivered to our cabins the next afternoon. Then the food was inedible to say the least. My husband and I did not enjoy it at all. The best my husband had was meat loaf in the dining room, I tried the frog legs and mahi mahi and it was all terrible. We tried eating in the Lido and the food had no flavor a lot of the food was greasy and the staff removed the dishes and cutlery from the tables but did not wipe the tables down. Sometimes the messy tables sat for 45 minutes before they were wiped. My husband also unwrapped his cutlery, opened the napkin and realized the napkin had dried mustard on it. I do have a picture of the napkin but haven't printed it. The staff in the Lido were pretty slack at times. They just didn't appear to be enjoying their jobs at all. There were very pushy Oriental people who would rather run you down and get in front than wait their turn. Children were so misbehaved it was terrible, one child was rolling around on the floor in the Lido and yelling. There is nowhere to escape the noise on this ship except in the Serenity Bar and Pool which in cold weather is rather out of the question. The announcements were so loud as to deafen and we could not understand the Captain's messages as his command of the English language could certainly be improved. This is a scathing review but I feel it justified, my husband and I have cruised with other lines before and been completely satisfied, we should have known better as friends who cruise a lot had warned us up front what to expect. This ship is due for major overhauling as well. So rusty and gaudy in decor. Read Less

The boarding process was the worst seen to date. We were on this very same cruise last year and the boarding process went well. We remembered none of the total kayos of this trip. What happened? It’s obvious the scheduled boarding times mean nothing. I believe all the passengers were there at 1100 ready to go along with all the passengers from another company were there as well. The lines were long and very slow. There were no specific areas for Special Needs people to wait and get out of the way of the thundering herd of passengers. If this is any indication of the new and improved Carnival boarding procedures then we may need to rethink our preferred Cruise line. We were extremely displeased that NONE of the items requested through the Special Needs section ever made it to the cabin until the 2nd day of the cruise. And that was only after calls to Guest Services. We’ve never had a Special Needs issue until this cruise. What is the purpose of going through the time and paperwork to get things coordinated and planned only to have Ship’s staff not do anything?? It’s not rocket science to get a shower chair and a “Lanset” Box to the cabin is it? An extension cord had always been provided on previous cruises as well to support the CPAP machines but it NEVER showed up. Luckily, we always carried our own and used it. We were extremely disappointed with the ship’s Bar Management. We have never been on ANY ship that ran out of multiple beers, soda’s, and bar stock. On day two of the cruise we ran out of 16 ounce Bud Light bottles and Bud light draft. The Bud Light 16 ounce bottles were replaced with 12-ounce cans. That is a loss of 4 ounces per drink for those of us on the Cheers package, which results with the loss of one can for every 3 consumed. Carnival really makes out on that deal. As the cruise progressed, the ship then ran out of 16 ounce Coors Light bottles with no replacement. Additionally as days went by, the ship ran out of Diet coke, Coke Zero, Tonic Water, and Club Soda. All bars are not properly stocked with required drink ingredients. I found it rather annoying that on one day the ship ran a Bloody Mary drink special with all the options available clearly printed on the sign at the bar(s) but in reality, they didn’t have all the items such as horse radish, celery, hot sauce, Queen olives. Only two bars on the entire ship had everything. Very sad indeed. Obviously there needs to be more senior level oversight of the Bar management area. Read Less

First trip of the Alaskan season, couldn't pass up how cheap it was compared to the weeks to follow. Trip started out rough, arrived to port on time then had to wait in customs once i had cleared it with a few hundred people only to have the people after we arrived go straight on the ship while we waited. The line to get sail and sign cards was not a well oiled machine but a very unorganized line. Not to mention the confiscated my tiny little plastic fan and 2 bottle of wine both of which you are allowed to carry on. Room steward randomly brought out wine back to us on 3rd day. Dining staff were nice but the main dining room took over 2 hours per dinner to get through the courses. My wife was positive that they had used this ship to train every one by time we got off. My biggest issue was all the rude people. Never seen so many people walk into the middle of a buffet line and start grabbing food off the line or go to the end and work their way into on coming traffic and act like you were the one in the wrong. The cruise director Jen was great. Our room steward did his job well. The cruise was fun but carnival needs to get their crap together. Read Less

The crew was very pleasant. We discovered the "undercover" secret menu that the dining room keeps hidden away. This way.....your food is not mass produced. Just have to order it a day in advance at the dining room check in podium. Way better than the regular menu. I learned about this from another cruise critic member. The casino was average. The cabin was average. the ship was clean. Alaska was cold. Immigration was grouchy. Crew was pleasant. Not many kids on this cruise........so that was good. Shows were very average. Free casino drinks were good. Regular buffet and dining room was very salty, but the secret menus were great. Elevators were very good. Boat was old, but well maintained. This was a free cruise from Golden Nugget casinos. Alaska cruises are fun every several years. Going at the beginning of May means very few noisy children to bother one and no crowds in port......but you do freeze your buttocks. Read Less

I've only been on 6 cruises in my life (age 63), dating back to the 1980's, including a previous Alaska cruise on the NCL Jewel in 2013 and two almost back-to-back western Caribbean trips on the NCL Jade in 2016. I picked this cruise for the following reasons: 1) left from Vancouver and returned to Seattle, 2) the extra day, and 3) great price. I highly recommend the Hampton Inn and Suites in Vancouver - free breakfast and free bike rental (rode 10+ miles around town Sunday morning). Embarkation was a mess, as others have stated, but once on board I immediately started enjoying the great food. The food and service was excellent. Our balcony cabin (7228) was great, especially for my wife, who didn't want to go out on deck like I did to see the sites (I liked being able to quickly move from side to side as wildlife and other sightings were announced by the onboard naturalist). The highlights for me were 1) seeing 3 bear cubs at Mendenhall, 2) going to 2+ fjords and 3+ glaciers, 3) White Pass train ride in Skagway, 4) numerous eagle, otter, sea lion, and whale sightings - including one whale that slapped its tail over ten times, and 5) the FOOD. I gained 8 pounds, and enjoyed every bite (have since lost 6). The weather was predicted to be much worse than it actually was, so that was a blessing, too. The shows were good, and Merl Hobbs is a great comedian. Cruise director Jen and her staff did an excellent job throughout the week. Debarkation was a breeze, except for the long line waiting for a taxi (not Carival's fault). Still, having to stand around for an extra 30 minutes or so before and/or after a fun-packed 8 day cruise is no big deal. I recommend this cruise to anyone looking for a good deal. Read Less

Really enjoyed our stay on the Legend. Staff was amazing, really appreciate all the hard working people. She's an older ship but met all our needs. Couldn't believe the space in the bathroom, best on any cruise to date. I had no problem with the decor as I've read in other reviews. Great food and drinks - dining room was great, happy with the offering on the buffet, wish chopsticks was open for dinner it was so good. Singers especially the band Carthorse in the Red frog pub- really talented! They pour full shots and mixed drinks are so good. Hot cocoa was a life saver on those cold glacier viewing days. Shows and comedians are well worth the time. Cookie who hosted the trivia games and cooking demonstrations was a hoot! Nancy the onboard naturalist was very informative and appreciate her knowledge. The Park Rangers that boarded in Glacier bay area fantastic, glad we took the time to make it to their presentation. With Alaska beauty as your view, I couldn't have been more pleased. Best vacation of my life to date! Read Less

We only took this cruise as our relatives from England had booked it and we wanted to surprise them. we saw our room stewart twice. I accidently got locked out of our room one morning and no one was in the hall for over an hour to let me in. Our phone was out of service one night I was with my 82 year old mother and she has health issues so we needed a phone I went to the front desk around 5 pm to tell them and it was still not fixed the next morning. I went to the front desk again to complain and was told they did not know why it had been fixed the previous night that afternoon when the electrician came up to fix it he said no one had reported it, a large majority of the staff did not know how to answer almost every question we asked and the front desk women were extremely rude. We had paid for an extended balcony and were not told that we were directly under the outside pool deck needless to say almost every night we did not sleep due to the extremely loud parties that went on, on the pool deck. When we settled our bill we had to prove we did not drink the bottled water in our cabin the stewart says we did, its not the price but the fact that he argued with us to a point of extreme rudeness. We always cruise on Princess at least twice a year and were extremely disappointed with the cruise and will never recommend this line to any one. Read Less

We chose to take this cruise aboard Carnival simply because I enjoy cruising and my wife wanted to visit Hawaii. Leaving from Vancouver was convenient, since we are from Seattle. Getting though customs was relatively smooth. While waiting for or luggage we decided to review the ship. We were initially disappointed in the ship. We noticed not a lot of activities, other than sitting in the sun. There were 2 water slides that looked to be fun and enjoyable. Well looks certainly are deceiving. One was never opened, and the other lasted 3 seconds. We decided to maybe have a bite to eat. The lido deck buffet was well laid out. However the choices seemed to be constant. We have ridden other cruise ships and noticed a constant change in the menu. I can only say the quality of food was mediocre at best. While on the subject, the dinner menu and service were well below par. Seems like the wait staff was doing you a favor. No fun. No interaction. really disappointing There was one bright spot in our culinary experience aboard the Legend (not sure why She's named that) and that was Nevau Steak House. Very very good. Service and food were excellent. Our cabin was neat and clean, however it was small comparably. The balcony was small and crowded. The was an old console tv and one appliance plug. The bed was relatively comfortable. All in all the experience was less than our expectations. Read Less

The best part of this cruise were the passengers. An older crowd, I found courteous, friendly, diverse, and very interesting. The ship itself was well decorated but clean enough. In the public areas I found dirty bathrooms. My cabin had areas that we had to remind the cabin steward to clean. I generally like to sit around the ship and listen to the live music. I did not find the choices much to my liking. Our favorite activity was the dance lessons. Other than than that we didn't find enough to maintain our interest. Although, I must say most of the time we were happy just sitting upstairs in the Serentiy area in one of the pods and reading. I likes the gym as well. The shows were very amateurish, though I give the performers A for effort. It just lacked the production values I have seen on other ships. While I usually like going to the casin, I didn't on this ship. It was just too smokey. Other ships offer smoke free evenings. Carnival does not. The restaurant service was very good, among the best I have found. However, for a non meat eater the choices on the menu were too limiting. I ended up eating the Salmon 90 percet of the time. I would say the same for the boufet, where it was smoked almon or tuna fish just about everyday. Breakfast was much more satisfying. The excursions offered by Carnival were seemingly of good value as they were cehaper than other cruise lines. However, we were disappointed in the way the guides prioritized the stops. For instance we spent the same amount of time stopped at a shopping area as we did at the Canyon in Kauai. Consequently, with most of the excursions we felt we did not have enough time at the most important syops. Read Less

I chose the cruise because I have never been to Hawaii and the repositioning cruise seemed like a great way to go. Embarkation & disembarkation was smooth. I have no problem with the ship; I have sailed on the Legend before and the cabins are about the same on all Carnival ships. The trip was very easy going with 5 sea days to relax and there were many activities going on. I had two problems on this trip: (1) The tendering process at Kona; I know the sea was a little rough, so it took a little longer, but still, they didn't launch enough tenders to get all of the people off the ship. It took almost 3 hours for us to get off, and there were several more tender numbers after ours, and that wasn't an especially long port day. (2) The food in the Main Dining Room was inconsistent. We had Prime Rib one night and my daughter's was so tough she had a hard time cutting it; mine wasn't tough, but it had absolutely no flavor. We tried it again near the end of the cruise (because nothing else on the menu appealed to us); the second time it was tender and tasted like Prime Rib. My daughter had Pork Roast (or something like that) on one night and it was so over-cooked and dry that she left nearly all of it. Our Cabin Steward, "Bond", was great. Will I go again? Not on this particular itinerary, but I will go somewhere. Read Less
