Wanted to try a different cruise line after being with Princess Cruises. Thought Fun ship that's different. Well not what I call fun. Getting pushed out of way by kids and parents. Kids running up and down hallways and up and down stairs pushing elevator buttons. Embarkation was average to say the least. Cabin was clean ad tidy but smaller then I was expecting We had anytime dinning that was ok and food was OK but not much variety Entertainment as OK there was a couple of good shows but was a big disturbance in one of the comedy shows and security was very slow sorting that out The Bar service was OK but seriously when is it OK to have kids sitting at bars in my opinion that is terrible practice. In the casino there were kids running around pushing buttons not good practice allowing that Parents were more concerned with having there own fun to worry what there kids were doing The shore excursions were average but OK Was suppose to get $200 credit each not a cent received. and the internet was the worst I have had on any cruise. $240 and could not access any thing I would not sail on the Sprit again at this stage Read Less

My partner and I were looking for a relaxing packaged holiday where we could just put our feet up and relax. As my partner is expecting a baby we were somewhat limited for choice because of the Zika virus, so the decision to join the cruise was made. Although we were a little anxious and skeptical about how much we would enjoy it as a cruise is not the usual kind of travel we do, we both thoroughly enjoyed our time on the Carnival Spirit. We both went in with an open mind and not massively high expectations, and came away really pleased with our choice. The aspects that were a highlight to me (in no particular order): - Embarking, Disembarking and tendering were super easy and quick - Service by the wait staff at seated dinner (breakfast was a little more casual though) - Plenty to do if you easily get bored. My partner was happy to read books all day, but I participated in quiz's, went to the fitness centre (and enjoyed the sauna there), watched sport in the sports bar etc. So yes, plenty to do. - The food was good. We have high standards with food choice and it was very good overall considering the ship has to service 2000+ people every day. The sit down dinner was worth it to us and had plenty to choose from. The venison/deer, steak, and melting chocolate cake were standouts. Blue Iguana tacos were great, as were burgers from Guys burgers. - Jinek Bay in Lifou for snorkelling was our highlight. Really was an amazing place. Not so good things: To be honest there weren't many and most were relatively minor. - My biggest bug bear was that we had an obstructed balcony view with the liferafts in front. Now to be honest they dont obstruct you much, but if you were on the balcony often they were a bit of an eye sore. But the frustrating part was that a couple at our table were upgraded from an interior cabin to a balcony cabin free or charge and didnt have an obstructed view, whereas we paid for a balcony cabin (and yes we were told prior it would be obstructed) and were left with the life raft in front. - The AC in the cabin either didnt work (although we did ask for it to be fixed) and was pretty hot to sleep in. Easily remedied with the door left open. Tips: - The Carnival chocolate melting cake is a winner at the sit down dinners. - Get cocktails from Alchemy bar rather than Serenity - Get to Serenity early to get a pod to lie in - Book early to snorkel at Jinek Bay in Lifou Overall: Overall it was a great first cruise experience. It seemed to have something for everyone, and if you approach the cruise with the right attitude it will exceed your expectations. Thanks Carnival and the team on the Spirit. Read Less

Just back from our Carnival Spirit cruise to New Caledonia and Vanuatu (August 2018). Once again another very good cruise experience on the Carnival Spirit. The Carnival Spirit is very well organised, staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is very good standard and available at very good times. Entertainment was great. The Carnival Spirit is a step ahead in terms of quality over the competitor's cruise we went with earlier this year. Embarking, getting onto the tenders at the island stops and disembarking was very well organised, with very little wasted time. The ship's lifts are quite quick, even during very busy traffic times - this was a problem on the competitor's ship we went on earlier this year. On board shopping ("duty free" jewellery and alcohol) was on the expensive side (this was the only item not as good as the competitor cruise we went on earlier this year). The duty free alcohol did not seem to as good value as my last Carnival cruise. I will plan to do my duty free alcohol and any watch etc shopping in the ports (or at home before I leave) next time. I am looking forward to my next Carnival cruise. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I hadn't tried the Carnival brand yet. I have cruised 37 times now, across 7 different brands. I had been warned about the dark decor, and yes, the majority of the ship has dark decor. There is a webcam on the midship Lido pool, that streams live into all the cabins - like the ship's webcam at the front. I thought this was VERY weird and unnecessary. It also meant that people avoided this pool, and the rear pool was busier. The BEST thing about this ship IMO was the new dedicated arts & craft room "Soul Play". I've never seen a dedicated craft room on board a ship and it had some great activities and it seemed to be well attended. I had a balcony cabin and it was clean and comfortable. Bathroom seemed a little more spacious than most cabin bathrooms. Sadly the Maitre'Ds didn't enforce the dress code and we saw men in shorts and thongs, in the MDR on "Elegant". When MDR staff don't enforce the dress code on the 3-5% of pax who don't want to adhere to it, they are upsetting the 95-97% who do want the dress code upheld. Most cruise companies are guilty of this these days, which is a real shame. Apparently the shows were by "Playbill Productions" but I think it actually may have been "Playboy Productions". I don't want to go to a show and see 4" of some dancers bum cheek, and then have her lean provocatively over a stage prop, basically flashing her vagina at the audience. After the first 2 shows I stopped going. And others at my dinner table did also. Other pax on my dinner table said they walked out of the comedy act one night, also. Why does the CD schedule an island night on a sea day...? No one's been ashore to get their hair braided, buy a floral shirt, dress or coconut bra, from one of the local island communities who are so dependent on the tourism $$. Late night deck parties scheduled before port days (twice), then just Dive in Movies, on nights before sea days..... First cruise where some of the crew struggled with English. Atleast 3 crew I spoke with couldn't understand what I was saying, this included MDR crew. The Spa was VERY noisy, so after paying top dollar for 2 treatments, I didn't bother having anymore. The good part about the Spa was only 5% gratuities on treatments. On board shops were disappointing, as were the crew working in them. Read Less

I must say from the outset that we had sail on the Spirit on about 5 or 6 other occasions. It was disappointing to see the cost cutting that has taken place and onboard price rises for beer, wine and other things. The shows over the ten nights were ok but it looks like guest artists have now gone by the wayside. The MDR menu seems to have also down sized, the meal services was also slow and towards the end of the cruise the waiters were mixing up the orders. The buffet was the same as most in that you struggled to find a table. Afternoon tea in the buffet as also gone but of course you can pay to go to the Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea. The sea day brunch was a joke we had 4 waters looking after about 20 tables and they were actually walking very fast between tables to do the service in fact they were sweating that is how hard they had to work. Our Meet & Mingle was a very big let down (compared to what happens in the USA) our cruise director Eli did not introduce himself in fact I asked him to say something but his answer was that they do not say anything at these events !! In fact he and his assistant used the meeting for their morning tea. We did not get our year specific year pins. Read Less

Despite reading negative commentary about Carnival and the Sprint our recent experience in early August from Sydney to the Coral Sea and back was excellent. The cabin and location was all we needed, a big balcony was terrific as we spend a great deal of time there, service provided by the cabin stewards was as good, if not better than we have enjoyed on other cruise lines. Where Carnival find people so professional is beyond me - it must have a great deal to do with the training programs they implement. Food quality was very good and the entertainment was also beyond our expectations, particularly a magic show late in the cruise which was really very well done. We did book in advance the Any Time Dining option - without first reading the fine print in that [unlike Princess and RC] you can't pre book a table each morning for that evening at a time that suits you. So that means lining up and on our second night, we lined up for some considerable time - although the staff do give you a beeper to notify you of when your table is ready. Still this didn't suit us so we asked to change to the late sitting, it was arranged in minutes with no fuss, and we then enjoyed a table with four other wonderful people of a similar age and interests. Our adjustment turned out to be a real positive given the company we had for the rest of the voyage. We can't really comment on much else as we are not pool people and rarely spend much time in port on non sea days. I will say that Carnival would be well served selling a few red and white wines under the $30 per bottle mark - I think that would be a welcome addition to the largely Australia market given decent Australian and New Zealand wine prices are relatively cheap at home and perhaps the margin enjoyed by the cruise line is I'm sure, well beyond profitable given the quantities they must buy in. Finally the children on board. There were many, how is it that so many school age children, up to what appeared to be early to mid teens, are allowed to break school to go on a cruise is beyond me. This is of course is not a Carnival issue - but it mystifies me that parents would do this sort of thing. In the event Carnival take care of them very well - there seems to be an abundance of events for them to do and we just didn't have a problem at all with the young ones anywhere at anytime. Carnival Spirit is a great ship, with good food, terrific service and wonderful amenities. Perhaps some people have had a bad experience now and again - but for us we simply couldn't have been more pleased with the overall experience and value for money. Read Less

The embarkation process was efficient but the security checking staff need to improve their manners and consideration of elderly passengers, and try to emulate their counterparts at airport security checks. Dining in Empire rooms unsatisfactory, queues to get in, noisy loudspeaker announcements and meat and fish dishes sometimes tortured. Exactly the same dishes available in better condition in La Playa grill. Price of wine unreasonably high cf my previous cruises, $14.25 per glass. The La Playa grill was well run with pleasant and efficient staff I was told there was no longer alibrary on board, a deprivation The cabin was good and steward efficient and pleasant The electronics for allocating places on tenders to go ashore at Ile des Pins broke down leading to delays, confusion, and yet more queuing. Someone at breakfast first day out warned me to “expect the atmosphere of visiting your local RSL club in Sydney “ - a very perceptive remark. Sorry to be so negative but the senior management of Carnival needs to improve Read Less

A last minute choice as we would normally do a road trip to Queensland this time of year (Australian Winter). Had only done 2 cruises previously 1 on Azamara Journey....Athens to Barcelona and 2 Celebrity Millenium Singapore to Hong Kong. Price for this local cruise was a big factor and we weren't disappointed with anything. Boarding was very smooth and efficient all tendering and disemarkation very well managed. Delighted with our Guarantee balconcy cabin 4231 at rear of ship...plenty of storage space and layout very good...great bathroom. Cabin steward always happy and remembered our names and cabin beautifully clean. Dinner a Empire dining room was excellent and very attentive waiters. Lido buffet area always clean and food very good. Bar staff always helpful and mostly knew our regular order. Alround nice ship and staff and good value. Not the same demographics of passengers as previous cruises but a very lovely crowd. Read Less

My daughter (7) and I (35M) got a great deal on this cruise. We figured it would be a good way to kill time during school holidays and were not wrong. The ship had a great atmosphere with happy cruisers, excellent service and fun entertainment. I Getting on and off the ship was very fast. We had the "Faster to the Fun" package, and I highly recommend it. No lines, anywhere! It took less than 10 minutes to board the ship and less than that to disembark. Tendering and access to guest services was also a breeze with this perk. Dining at the Empire restaurant was a highlight. The range and quality of cuisine was better than I expected. The wait staff however were truly the stars - you have to see this for yourself. Get to dinner early and there is no wait to be seated, even with Anytime Dining. Poolside fare at Guy Fieri's hamburger bar and the Blue Iguana taco stand were surprisingly good too. I preferred this to the offerings at the buffet. We had a dinner at the Noveau steakhouse. It was a great meal with good service and complimentary wine as we went on the first night. We went to quite a few of the shows and they were of a high quality. The ship board activities for children were also fantastic. The Cruise Director, Eli, was personable and did a great job. My daughter enjoyed art classes at Soul Play (for an additional fee) and Camp Ocean. In fact my daughter said on disembarkation day that she would rather return to Spirit (as opposed to Ovation/Explorer OTS) as Camp Ocean was so well organised. The waterslides at the back of the ship were also really popular with her. There was hardly any waiting. I found the gym a bit small. The dudebro to dumbbell ratio was a bit high, resulting in waits for some equipment. There was good cardio equipment though. Another thing which could be improved was the speed of the internet, which at times reminded me of the late 1990s. Overall though, this was a great cruise at a bargain price. The Spirit is an older ship but the crew more than compensates for this by their keen service and enthusiasm. I would definitely go again. Read Less

Having cruised before, I was really excited about taking my adult daughter on her first cruise. This trip was so disappointing. I had heard of the queues on cruise ships but never experienced them until this trip. A diabolical nightmare embarking and a line wait for absolutely everything. The only time we didn't wait for anything was attending a show and I was stunned to see the theatre half empty. The ship's decor is very dark and gloomy and an ugly brown greets you everywhere. The service was appalling! I've cruised before where a smile greets you everywhere and you're never without someone asking if you need a refill. Staff on this ship all looked emotionless and appeared to walk around with broom and shovel but never doing anything. We saw our cabin attendant ONCE when we boarded and never again. One day our room wasn't even attended to from how we left it in the morning. The food was bland and tasteless. Service again in the buffet emotionless and dull. Can't fault one waiter Coco in the dining room who was a bundle of energy and delightful. Cabin also dark and gloomy. We had an extended balcony and the door didn't shut properly so we put up with a howling whistle for the whole cruise. Asked someone to look at it - they looked at it and that's all they did. Paid for the steak restaurant one night and my daughter was violently ill that night from whatever she ate. An expensive cruise where you paid for absolutely anything extra. Couldn't wait to get off and won't be cruising with Carnival again that's for sure. Read Less

We did enjoy our cruise but found the ship to be rather tired, especially in the hallways. The pods on decks 9 and 10 were nice to lay in with a book if you could get one, but I always would put a towel down 1st as the cushions and the mat you lay on were stained and a bit grubby! It was nice to have the Serenity adults only area to get away from the kids that were often left to run wild over the ship (no fault of the Carnival! ) Another thing I feel I have to mention is a big annoyance to me is the ever increasing amount of cruisers who find it acceptable to "reserve seats" for their family or friends! This is againts many cruise liners policies but always never enforced! In Europe it is quite common in a resort to find 50 + chairs with towels draped over them and not a soul in sight as theyre all out shopping etc.... I find it the height of rudness and very un Australian! I found the food on the ship very hit and miss, in the Empire dining room sometimes there were fantastic meals being served up and the next night quite the opposite, much the same for me with the buffet upstairs too, there was an amazing layered shoe string pastery with blue berrys and cream for lunch one day and then 2 consecutive days following that there were just cup cakes on offer! The shows at night were ok ( no orchestra ) and the dancers were full of energy. We also found that many of the on board activities during the day were had $ symbols! When we checked into our cabin the shower had not been cleaned and there was a razor and used soap in there! staff were mostly friendly bit not trained to a standard of some other ships I have been onn for example I found myself walking around or stepping aside of some of them instead of the other way around. In all honesty I can only rate my experience as very average compared with others I have sailed on. It was our 1st time on Carnival and I won't be returning. Read Less

This is my second cruise on this ship in the past 12 months and have another planned. The Food was awesome as usual but we had some issues with maintenance, surprisingly as it had come out of dry dock month earlier A couple of the public toilets broke, flooded and where out of order, The complete ship went dark and we had no power at one point. The entertainment was great, the shows conducted are of a very high standard, comedy shows were also very good. The ship was relatively clean and service was great from dinning staff and room Stewart. Overall experience was great with some issues during the cruise. The weather was a bit cold and windy which was a bit of a shame. Not much swimming. I was disappointed about the casino area allowing very obviously intoxicated people in the area, gambling and continuing drinking. They lost their cash obviously. Read Less

I choose this cruise Because of the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff .Far supérieur than of have met on all cruises l have been. Stewards are amazing at remembering everyone’s names. Due to cancelled flight, didn’t get a chance to explore Sydney . Embarking was easy, we opted for the take bags off ship 7am get ready in area to dis embark.. Easy was directed up lift to awaiting taxis. We had issues with the balcony door not closing properly ./fridge very noisy / and paint fumes . All of these issues were taken seriously and address promptly , ,! We opted for dinner at the Nouveau restaurant first night and were again given first class treatment . The meat melts in your mouth and is heavenly. Disappointed by the fake offer of free wine first night,, apparently per table Not per person.false advertising l believed.!. So my partner sat at another table . We still could talk and got our free wine as well which was not the best but 2 glasses in it was drinkable.. The punchline comedy club was great with great A plus comedians and R rated. Shows Also :The Marriage show was a scream .so funny and r rated l think and plenty of activities and entertainment for children to play games .Guess who l am and build a tower taking middle and blocks out .The Empire Room was used for dinning every evening and we loved the happy family vibes that the staff gave out . The matridi and singers at show time / dinner time was great entertainment .We did some ship booked excursions but it was easy to book off ship at some places. Ship at Noumena has a bus that takes and return s people to the ship . Drops off along the waters edge and a walk to shops and large information centre to view assortment of other tours . Traveling with another cabin buddy who was very pleasant and considerate ,we had a fun time all up . I plan to go back but not happy they are moving to Brisbane. Last thing was the entertainment same old shows but new actors Unsure if that is common for a yr or a certain time span. For frequent travellers it’s a bit boring but the new actors singers put their version of the show into a different light . Read Less

I choose this cruise because I love The Carnival Spirit and I loved the ports and duration of the cruise. 19 Nights From the moment we boarded it felt like coming home. We had cabin 5197 which I must say I'd never choose again unless I wanted an adjoining cabin. The cabin itself and balcony were fantastic, but I did find extra noise (mainly blaring TV or constant blowing of noses from adjoining room) and light from the adjoining cabin was a nuisance. Aside from that the position was the best. so close to the elevators. a quick jump down to atrium bar for a drink or upto lido for a snack. central to everything onboard. Deck 5 is also great for accessing the O2 15 to 17 yo club as it's on the same level at the front of the ship. We did both Chefs Table and Nouveau under the stars. I've done Chefs table in the past and although visiting the galley is great it was loudish and made it hard to hear Chef Vincent talk about each dish. I was underwhelmed by Nouveau under the stars. our waitress didn't seem to understand us very well. and when paying extra for the experience you expect a little more for the experience. We were told no we couldn't have more than 1 vegetable side and you pay extra to have wine with dinner but didn't serve anything I liked. which was very sad. Ports..... Airlie Beach we just did some shopping as we've been here before. Darwin we did the Hop on and Off Bus and looked around the main centre. I wish we had of known we could of had longer in port than after we had returned to the ship as we left over 3 hours later than expected. And also known about the free bus to Casuarina as this wasn't very well advertised and there isn't many shops in downtown Darwin. Bali we arrived at the Port of Benoa and after helping a friend who's husband was medically evacuated off the ship here we caught a Taxi into Kuta for the day. After a bit of bartering a stop off into Kuta McDonald's where my son got a behind the scene tour and we walk along the beach road we stopped off for a beverage at a local pub a foot massage hair braiding and a bit more bartering it was time to head back to port for our return tender. Ho Chi Minh. Phu My port. we opted for a 2 day tour here with Stephen from MY WAY TRAVEL. having already organized transfers and accommodation we met out tour guide at our hotel in Ho Chi Minh. Our transfer driver didnt speak any English into Ho Chi Minh but was a safe and reliable driver. We were dropped off at Prague Hotel. Here we met our guide for the next 2 days. Our guide spoke very good English and was extremely knowledgeable. We did a 2 day tour visiting the Vinh Trang My Tho Temple and buddhas The Mekong Delta river and estuary via boat and Hand rowed Sampan. We visited an island where they made coconut lollies and went on a horse and carriage ride through the village. We had lunch at the Nhà Hàng Mekong rest stop in Tiên Giang. Lunch was a traditional Vietnamese lunch. on day 2 we met our tour guide at our hotel at 8am from here we visited the War Remnants Museum the Reunification Palace, The French inspired Architectural post office, Cathedral and a final stop off at the Ben Tranh Markets. Prague hotel is in a great spot very central to everything in District 1. tables and chairs lined the street with eateries and drinks available everywhere. At night it all really comes to life with plenty of places within 50 meters of the hotel to visit. Well worth a visit but next time will stay longer. Koh Samui. We pre organized a tour with Stephen from My way Travels again. The tour guide wasn't easy to spot and I ended up sending everyone to the end of the pier to wait while I tracked him down. I must say we wasted a good hour and a half just at the port. We visited temples elephants monkeys and the grandfather and Grandmother Rocks before lunch. We unfortunately missed the end of our tour which was the shopping and looking around in Nathon. This was disappointing for me. Singapore. OMG how clean green and beautiful is this city. We stayed at Destination Singapore Hotel Beach Road. The pool on the top of the hotel is amazing. and too much time was wasted here on day one. We walked to Suntec City and Marina Square and visited little india for dinner arriving by Taxi and having a walk around. The Moustafa Centre is a sight to be seen. Although I'd never visit again it was worth seeing once. They have everything here one big multi level building. Day 2 saw us head to Sentosa via MRT and the Monorail to Universal studios. After a jammed packed day here we left and went to Gardens by the bay to watch the light show. It is amazing and a must not miss show when in Singapore. Then it was of too Bugis Street in a Taxi. We walked around the markets caught up with some friends from the ship and had a bite to eat. Day 3 and our last day in Singapore. We got up early and took the Hop on and Off bus from Suntec around Singapore (Blue line) then went back to the hotel to check out (late check out 2pm) jumping back on the hop on and off bus (red line) upto bugis street and revisiting the Markets and a last look around before heading back to the hotel for our luggage and heading to the airport. After it is all said and done I love Carnival I love Carnival Spirit and the team onboard and cant wait till I'm able to board again one day. I'm hoping carnival do more long cruises in the future as it was 19 nights of bliss. Read Less

Overall, we had a fabulous time aboard the Carnival Spirit. We enjoyed the wide variety of eateries that were included in the cruise and had no complaints. Facilities were wonderful and the staff even more so. The ship's resident entertainment group was wonderful but found some of the guest entertainment average but not everyone has the same taste. We loved all the ports and tender service was very good, much more organized than some of the previous cruises we have experienced. Only complaints were the prices of alcohol and the fact there were no packages other than bottles of wine. Even a coffee shop package would be great for all those who like to indulge. We often like to just relax in our cabin and watch a movie but found this very poor unless you wanted to pay. Shore tours were overpriced. Saying so, we would not hesitate to go Carnival again as overall it was better than we expected. Read Less

We chose this cruise to give some friends a start intro to cruising, they had a balcony deck 8 & o/view deck 2. We were in an interior room deck 7 aft above the Empire dining room, so that was good, just a 5min walk to restaurant. Embarkation & debarking were smooth, we were with a wheel chair user so that helped us, the staff wheeled her on & off the ship. The balcony rooms were very good, plenty of room, however the balcony is small & the ceiling of the balcony is rusted with some rust holes, the Spirit is off today to Singapore & dry dock for 2 weeks refurbisment, new carpet, clean the hull, reupholster seats in theatre & shops to be refurbished. The food in the restaurant is excellent, the waitress Corinna was very good, always serving with a smile. The quality of the food was a high standard from start to finish of cruise, the standard was maintained, even if it was for only 4 nights. The music in the restaurant for me is annoying, but the majority of people thought the kareoke entertainment in the dining room by staff was great, for me it is way too loud, last time on the Spirit 4y ago it was good fun, not amplified. The bistro is way too small for the number of people on boat, this is not unusual as all the cruise companies are getting as many paying cruisers as they can. One plus thing though, the coffee machine makes a good cappuchino. The food in the bistro is ok, just a small area for 2500 passengers. I gather the boat was full at 2500 & 1000 crew; the adult only & gym areas are very good. I gave a 0 to enrichment but as this was a 4N it is n/a. We manged to get onto Moreton Is, but only just as it was a 50/50 whether to run the tenders as it was windy & choppy. Moreton is ok, it was not good weather for water activities so no snorkelling but some did have a swim in the nearby beach. There were a lot of kids on this boat for this time of the year, but overall not too bad. The entertainment in the theatre was very good, there were two production shows, no live orchestra all programmed & pre recorded. Usual 80s show with excellent use of stage & props, the cast is young & enthusiastic. The volume of music is fine except for the Rock guitar show when some youngish guy solos for about 15 mins as a warm up for the main event at very high levels of volume, someone should tell him the energy comes from stuff other than amplified volume, The music around the ship varies; there is an excellent string trio from Ukraine who played a lot of pop songs from Beatles on, singer / piano player, a Manila 2 piece & a solo guitar / singer. The CD was not as visible as some others CDs. The master & officers had a meet & greet which i did not attend, but as this was a 4n cruise ? The gym is very good, plenty of devices to keep you working, the spa & sauna complement the gym. Overall happy with the Carnival Spirit. Read Less

I booked this cruise for me and my two children (ages 11 and 8). We hadn't been on a holiday in years so were very much looking forward to our trip. I chose a short trip (4 days from Sydney to Moreton Island) as a sampler for my children (I have cruised before on P&O and knew I'd likely enjoy it)..... Well this turned out to be an understatement as the kids LOVED it and we are looking to book another cruise for later this year/early next year!! With a kids club, 24 hour pizza (My son loved) and 24 hour icecream this cruiseliner is a great choice for kids and families. My kids spent most of their time in the pools! They also enjoyed the gaming arcade (standard onshore prices so wait until they do a 'half price special hour (announced in their activity schedule), the kids menus (perfect for fussy eaters), the mini golf and the PG-rated comedy shows!! They didn't try the slides or kids club but we heard from other kids and parents how great these were! The cocktails- cheaper than onshore prices and a good variety. I thought wine was steep in price and refused to buy it. There are limited choices of beer and wine on the cruise. Water, lemonade, coffee, tea and got chocolate free any time of day or night. The food- lots and lots of options here (We didn't have time to try it all). If you are used to (and/or expect) 5 star restaurant food in the MDR or buffet then you will not be happy with the quality. However considering the fact that the crew feed over 2000 passengers for breakfast, lunch and dinner then it would be fair to say that the food is of great standard. We did have to walk around and look for a table in the buffet a couple of times which was annoying (and there can be long queues to get to the buffet food) but to avoid this you could go in less congested times. Lots of choice in buffet and they cater for many people (vegetarian etc). The wait staff in MDR were excellent and for dinner I thought the MDR was better than the buffet as not only was it nice to sit down and be waited on, but it was also an opportunity to sit with other familis and make friends (which we did)! I also found that I couldn't over-eat in the MDR as I had done in the buffet at both breakfast and lunch times!! You certainly don't go on a cruise to lose weight!! Guys Burger joint- like sloppy Joes. Good if you like meaty meat (!). My daughter loved cheeseburgers from here. Fat Jimmy's barbecue- I only tried this once. Okay but I wouldn't rave about it. Bbq food like sausages and pulled pork, salads and veges. For a short cruise there are just too many food options!! People who complain about the food may be on longer cruises or, as previously suggested, have bigger expectations and possibly more refined tastebuds!! Staff generally lovely and very welcoming, especially room stewards. I note that they are notes friendly as they were on a P&O cruise I went on some years ago. Staff always cleaning and maintaining ship. Always clean and tidy. Always someone to find if you have a problem or query. Entertainment- lots of choice from shows to comedy. Night time atmosphere is great. It's a little quieter during the day with bingo, seminars etc except I found that not much beat a cocktail and a laze around the pool! Moreton Island- Shore excursions are expensive but you don't need to do them! Lots of things to do without spending a cent or activities costing very little. Enjoy the beaches, self-snorkelling, resort pool and free beach activities as set up by Carnival. Overall this cruise was great value for money and we will definately be doing another (longer) one!! Didn't know what to expect on this holiday, so was delighted to find that we fit right in with the activities and copious eating and we were well looked after by the staff and crew... We loved the port visits to strange lonely islands and beautiful beaches...Fabulous night time entertainment, sometimes such fun we went twice! The water slide was scarry how it could chew through your pants after eight goes... Carnival Spirit has lots of places to eat and a great gym to work it off again... Steam room and sauna facilities are a really great way to relax after long days at sea... Great organisation from getting on the boat and off him in twenty minutes through to perfect coordination of excursions... Just a bit of advice to participate in the activities, that's what makes the fun days at sea, don't stay in bed after a night on the drinks...Take a chance go on stage, have fun, you're not going to see these people again anyway... We where skeptical about cruising as we hear issues through the media. We wanted to have an experience hence booked with friends, from the time we arrived inside the ship till we exit we had great experience. The food was great inspite of being vegetarian choice was less but the chef and the staff at the counter obliged to get us vegetarian dishes every day.We thank them for it.Next the room service my goodness they are always cheerful maintained the room very neat.I think they deserve the pat on the back.Next is all the staff at cafe/restaurant amazing always helpful with smiles on their faces.Only winge is the management should have given options to the people about tours as we had no idea about what to do?.Management should try to cater to different community people by asking about food restrictions which can be done in advance as they collect fully money3 months in advance. But that's part of continuous improvement, lastly but not least I want everyone involved in sending my Fitbit watch which was left in my room.the room service guys thanks for handing it promptly and the staff taking interest and calling me about it and arranging to send it.Thank you all Read Less

Exceeded my expectations, the accommodation was spotlessly clean, the staff were very friendly and the overall atmosphere was very laid back. The amenities on board were excellent and the gym & entertainment provided was more than sufficient to pass away the time. The food was excellent and there was plenty of food variety if you look around and try the different options available. The ship is massive and a lot of time can be spent just walking around it. Ports of Call Isle of Pines was beautiful. The locals sold food at stalls and there is a resort where you can rent kayaks and paddle boards. The snorkelling is very good as well and the beach lovely. Noumea is the capital and a proper city. Most things were closed when we arrived. We took the water taxi to Duck Island. There was beautiful snorkelling here but the beach is basically broken coral. There is a restaurant/resort on the island but it is extortionate and they struggled with peak service for people. Read Less

As a large group (22 in total), with a good mix of adults and children, we looked forward to this cruise for over 12 months. The overall experience was a pleasant one, with everyone (bar 1 child) enjoying it. The positives were the service (both cabin and dining), the entertainment, activities available onboard and the overall friendliness of staff and passengers alike. I don’t like to point out the negatives particularly however 3 things stood out. 1) the shore excursions on the islands were overpriced ($50 for 3 people to catch a bus to the beach is a bit rich!). The restriction to only 100 people on Lifou beach was a massive disappointment. 2) the drinks are really overpriced and lack variety (terrible beers that tasted average). $55 for a bottle with swamp water tasting was ridiculous. 3) the photos were of super quality but at $17.99 for one, it is a big ask for people to buy perhaps more than 1 or 2. They should offer them for cheaper as they would sell much more volume. Overall however an enjoyable cruise - wouldn’t do the same cruise again, but keen to find other experiences. Read Less

We were excited to go - as we had previously 3 times taken repositioning voyages across Pacific with other Cruise Lines...This one had a Great choice of route via Polynesian islands ... Unfortunately in the balance this ship had poor food , poor organization - virtually no port or travel information " Libray sent us the wrong books " , ask X as I have no information about this ... X says ask Y or just wait and ask the people at the dock as we don't know, " The folks at Customer service usually just said " We do not know " No weather information , very limited cabin TV stations , no newspaper summarys of international news, Extremely expensive InterNet connections which failed to work once purchased, No flexability in Internet rates even at end of Cruise ... no specials, complete disorganization disembarking ... After a couple days on board , Any passenger with whom we spoke who had cruised before - all expressed great dismay at the Staff's lack of responsibility to follow through or get information for us when requested as well they all were disppointed with dining room sit down Food quality...as it was nice to read selections but prepared poorly ... Exercise gym for services usually supplied for free to keep passengers occupied like Tai Chi or yoga classes ... on this ship were only available for package at quite expersive cost just under an additional $ 200 a person ... worse of all they scheduled the 3 classes - yoga, Spin and Boot camp all in a block ( 730-930 am ) so you would have had to be a Iron Man to utilize the classes ! I tried and found that the person running the classes reguarly discouraged " drop in's" saying every time -" you MUST Buy a complete package no individual classes - not even one to sample the package " ... This meant that the classes had few people - probably none after a little while - so " instructor " could have a break instead of 'teaching ' Instructor was also very distant and not a very pleasant Yoga teacher - it was more like a exercise class then a calm reflective time - worse yoga class I have ever experienced in 40 years ... Table Teniis - ping pong Table was located outside on deck with extremely strong winds which was made even more impossible to play because the vents from AC blew directly onto Table making path of ball erratic every time ! When I suggested they move the Tables to more suitable location - they replied that " It works well when we are in the Carribean ..." Since the next 4 months the boaat was no where near the Carrribean ... basically the reply was a polite version of "forget it- don't bother me * ... Similar responces of " Why bother us ? we just work here - ... were received when suggesting changes to " Exercise schedule " etc. by the Customer Service staff ... they even told me not to give them a handwritten report -with some positive suggestions which I had adressed to " The Captain " ... because "he would not care...." Entertainment many nights was low quality comedians... although dancing and singing shows were of ok quality ... Entertainment Director worked hard at getting crowd enthusiastic but for me it reminded me of being in a High School Cheering section far too many times... In a more positive vein - Cabins were reasonablly large and well presented except tV's were tiny and old... Cabin staff and Dining room staff were very nice and hard working , Ship was very well maintained , cleaned regularly and quite fast - Captain made competent sea faring decisions such as to avoid a Cyclone bearing down on Fiji by stopping instead on Tonga ... Swimming pools were usual ship small size but all of them except 1 was taken over by children running and pushing each other so adults were forced to live in Stern area of ship Summarizing - Carnaval Legend repositioning cruise: was an excellent choice if you had children or are a Gambler or spend your time playing BINGO and Trivia all day but if you expect quality of Celebrity or Holland America ... best to avoid Carnaval ! An interesting cruise. Embarkation went very well and quick - very efficient. Decor inside ship is very dark - if I had a choice I would paint all the dark brown areas a light off white colour. But it is what it is. If you are a regular cruiser on RCL or Princess I believe you will be disappointed with Carnival - it is a step down. The main complaint I have is that the food was of a lower quality and variety to that I have experienced on RCL and Princess. The Lido deck food was much below that found on Windjammers and Horizons. I didn't mind this cruise as I wanted to see Tahiti but several first time cruisers expressed disappointment and much of that due to long at sea periods of 6 days and 5 nights. I quite liked the daily news sheet known as Fun Times compared to RCL and Princess daily sheets - very few conflicts with daily activities and easy to read. The movie screen in theatre was small and not enough movies were shown on cruise. Went to a "meet and mingle" - waste of time - no one mingled and I had the unfortunate circumstance to sit next to a fellow who said one word. Did chat with a lovely USA couple from California though and I saw them from time to time during cruise. One aspect that was first class was Cruise Director Jen Baxter - a pocket dynamo who was on the go non stop - so much fun. Her cruise directing staff were also so much to be around - remembered one's name and always said hello - the best overall cruise directing staff I've experienced in 13 cruises to date. One of the senior officers named Eric was also very friendly and helpful. Thought the singers and dancers were pretty good but backdrops for shows were better on RCL and Princess. Also RCL and Princess have live bands supporting them rather than machine music. Many of the shows were of high quality although at least one comedy show was pathetic and he didn't get a second chance. Dining was satisfactory but menu selection was average to be kind. Occasionally service was a little slow as well - fortunately we had 2 lovely couples at our table which made for excellent conversation. If you like trivia competitions you will not be disappointed and very competitive with some smart people participating resulting in high scores - sometimes perfect scores. There were occasional accusations of cheating in scoring as people were allowed to make own papers - should be marked independently although recognising it should be for fun mostly as prizes are cheap and should not be taken too seriously. We were meant to go to Fiji but cyclone meant it was impossible so ship went to Tonga instead - excellent effort by ship to look after passengers safety and also provide an alternative shore visit. Shore visits to Noumea, Tonga, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Moorée and Hawaii were all good and plenty to see and do at each port. Thought ship prices were slight more expensive than RCL and Princess. Alcohol prices are excessive but all cruise lines charge excessive fees - my local RSL and Club are cheaper. There were quite a few children on this cruise but not an issue. Although there were quite a few sea days the daily program was quite full. The ship is need of some repair and is due to go in for a 2 week maintenance in a dock shortly - if you closely at ships side a lot of paint is pealing and back to bare metal. Cabin was fine and good room steward. If I were to rate Carnival I would suggest 3 to 3.5 star whereas RCL and Princess are 4 star. Thought the enrichment lectures were of high quality and informative. Often too windy to play mini golf which was a shame. Disembarkation was sloppy - US and Canadian passengers getting priority and there was a long due by the time customs officials started. Some people took over an hour to get off. Would I travel Carnival again - if price was right and itinerary was somewhere I wanted to go then perhaps but would not be my first preference. Read Less
