We had been on Diamond Princess as a couple and loved the experience so Carnival had a lot to live up to. It wasn't as big or as flash as Princess but with a 4 year old Carnival was absolutely perfect. Carnival was more geared for children with the slides and things for them to do. We were also upgraded to an extended balcony cabin (8223) and I thoroughly encourage anyone doing a pacific island cruise to spend the extra money and opt for a balcony. It came in so handy with wet swimmers and towels from our days out on the islands. We also left our snorkelling gear out there as well. Not to mention waking up in the morning from our bed watching the islands sail pass us. The cabin was big enough for the 3 of us. They had converted the lounge into a single bed for our son which stayed that way the entire time. The kids club was excellent with lots of activities to entertain them. They also give you a phone so if there's any problems they will call you. The buffet for breakfast and lunch was excellent with always a good variety of hot and cold dishes & the main dining area for dinner was lovely with exceptional customer service & humorous waiters. The food was good, no complaints but would say not quite the quality of Princess. Entertainment was quite good with the main shows at night popular & quality. I must say the lady who played in the piano bar most nights was exceptional taking any requests. All in all Carnival Spirit was an excellent cruise and we would definately cruise with them again, hopefully out of Brisbane next time. Read Less

Overall the cruise was above my expectations. Room: We were in room 7302 aft balcony and I will be requesting an aft balcony for future cruises. The room was spacious enough for my husband and I and 6 year old and having a balcony gave us a lot more flexibility in space ( somewhere to dry clothes and towels, stash sandy shoes and snorkel gear, read, sun bake and get some fresh air). The aft balcony meant we got great uninterrupted views with none of the wind and it was very quiet as the only other people going past our door was the staff and neighbours. Cleanliness: Room attendants were fantastic, unobtrusive, friendly and even left a special message, balloons and toy for my daughter on her birthday - I didn’t even have to organise it. Meals: lots to choose from. My husband doesn’t like buffets and lives for a good steak so he insisted we eat at the fancy restaurant a few times. Meals there were VERY good and not very expensive, however I actually preferred the dining room meals and the staff there really went above and beyond. The buffet was also good and we all loved the 24 hr pizza. The only thing that could of been done better was the drink packages. None of my family do soft drinks or wine. Beer, liquor and good coffee is what we want and they didn’t have a drink package to cater to any of these and we ended up paying a small fortune for 10 days of good coffee. Entertainment: always something to do for everyone. We all like very different things and each one of us was happy doing some things by ourselves and somethings together. Kids club: my daughter loved kids club ( so did we) and we never felt guilty taking her there as whenever we went to pick her up she would have a spit because she wanted to do whatever the next activity was. Staff: this is where I was blown away. I can not say enough good things about the staff. Friendly, patient, entertaining, always willing to help and they go out of their way to make you feel special - considering there is 3000 people they attend to daily this is no mean feat! I was disgusted in the way I saw many other cruisers treat the staff, but they took it all in stride. For many English is a second or third language, but they still remember your names, how you like your orders, what you drink etc, and many times we were what seemed like extra special care even though they probably are like that for everyone. Our waiter Ketut and his staff must have a special mention as I cannot list all the ways they were good to us. Destination: each place we visited was more beautiful then the next. It may seem like I am praising everything from a holiday high but I have been back in the real world for 3 months now as I write this. I am usually a critical person but was amazed at how great our experience was. Even my husband who gets motion sickness and prefers to stay indoors loved it and we were both surprised at how very little movement we noticed in the ship and no one got sea sick at all. Read Less

This was my first (& last) cruise with Carnival. We have cruised many times with Royal Caribbean & Holland America. We chose this cruise as we were travelling with our family which included 4 grandchildren and we thought Carnival would have more activities for the kids, but they have no more activities than RCL. Embarkation was efficient and we were on board quite quickly (although we had an issue with Carnival not having our credit card details despite having provided the details previously). Food was very disappointing. I found the buffet set up on the Lido deck very confusing, as the serving stations don’t seem to be in any formation. I also found it very strange that the Lido buffet had very limited serving stations for dinner, with only 2 or 3 options available. I assume this is so that everyone eats in the truffles dining room to save costs to Carnival on staff and food. Carnival ran out of several food and drink options on the last 2 days of the cruise. Items that were not available included Coke, Sprite (sugar fee was available but not the normal coke), pineapple, muesli, rockmelon ect. Cleanliness left a lot to be desired. There were hygiene lotion dispensers placed outside each serving station on the Lido buffet, outside the entry to the dining room, & at entry & exit points on port days and that was it. Unlike RCL & HAL who both have copious dispensers placed through their ships. RCL also have staff dispensing hygiene lotion to passengers prior to entry to the buffet on the Lido deck. By the end of the cruise it seemed like half the passengers were coughing from having caught something on the ship, no doubt caused by the lack of hygiene on the ship. Having said that, our cabin was always cleaned well. Staff at the Guest Service desk need training as they didn’t seem to understand the simplest query. If you only want a print out of your statement they are fine. One of my grandsons was injured on the ship (through no fault of Carnival), and required medical treatment. The farce that followed between the medical centre & guest services is too complicated and detailed to go into, suffice to say, legal advice will be sought. While the majority of children on the ship were well behaved and supervised, there was one feral lot of children who ran amok on the Lido deck. The feral kids would throw ice cream cones on the deck, throw bean bags around, almost hitting one passenger, and generally bullying their way on the deck, and no one on the Carnival staff intervened unless fellow passengers complained that someone was going to get hurt. I don’t know where the parents of the feral kids were, but if they were close by, they certainly never stopped the bad behaviour of their children. It seems Carnival Legend has learned nothing from the fiasco that occurred earlier in the year when passengers had to be off loaded for their bad behaviour. The general service staff in the dining rooms, bars and cabins are fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for them. They were the best part of the cruise. I would not recommend this cruise line. Have never sailed with Carnival before so decided to take a break. The ship had been refitted this year. The decor of a Greek theme was very dark and oppressive. The ships layout was easy to navigate. It was surprising to see sanitization ok n stations in obscure locations . They were not manned. The wash stations were not manned and looked like a drink dispenser. What was a surprise was there was no attempt to educate passengers on hygiene. Now on a double dose of antibiotics from throat infection . Thanks Carnival. The ship has a constant vibration that keeps you awake. Fatigue will set on and something will fail. Maintenance of small items took forever Fridge was defective for 3 days and took 3 calls to get attention. Cruise Director was good. Buffett was ghastly. Food was stewed and sat there. Burgers and tacos were good. Pizzas passable. The buffet menu suited the overweight and obese. Full of sugar and carbs. Dinner in the dining room was superb . Service was very good. Read Less

First time on Carnival line and chose this Cruise as we had a last minute discounted cabin. Have cruised over a dozen times with Princess, Celebrity Solstice Solstice and P&O. We were worried that our indoor cabin under the Red Frog Bar would be noisy, it was extremely quiet except for the occasional scraping of chairs. The cabin was spacious with heaps of hanging space and a good sized shower. Overall cleanliness was very good. The entertainment was probably the best we had experienced and the Cruise Director Jen was energetic and the love of people and her job was obvious. We ate just about everywhere. Found the Truffles Restaurant fabulous for breakfast and lunch. Could be hit and miss at dinner. The free pizza was great, as was the hamburger station and Mexican. Buffet was just a pass. Salad bar was great, and desserts very good, however except for the vegetables the rest of the buffet was pretty ordinary. Meats seemed dry and over cooked. This was a small negative, as considering the market Carnival gears itself to (families) we expected this. Carnival Legend has plenty of sitting areas inside, and we never found it a problem to find a sun lounge at the adults only Serenity area. Some people will grizzle just about everything given the chance, we found many many positives. No need to rush dining and head to showroom early to bag a seat, as there were always plenty in the two tiered showroom. Lifts were quick and no breakdowns. Waiters bursting into song some evenings in Truffles bought a smile to many a face. Carnival Legend is a fun ship...go with the flow, we certainly would travel with Carnival again if you want a relaxed holiday. We didn’t find the children on board a problem...some adults could learn from them. And...there was always the free Adults Serenity area to escape if need be with it’s own bar. Yes, you can wear shorts into the evening dining room (except for formal nights) and we found this wonderful. Not so many clothes to pack. Most people were always smart casual. All in all, thanks Carnival....we will come back. Read Less

I booked this 12 day cruise at short notice. The fare was heavily discounted and I've always wanted to go to Denarau, Fiji. This was my first time with Carnival and I liked it. When I booked this cruise, I was concerned about the ship's security, after seeing video footage of unruly behaviour of some passengers and some security guards last February. The sight of some large security guards pinning an unruly passenger to the floor while other large security guards were kicking him was not a good look. What made things worse was the video footage of other security guards trying to grab the phone and cameras of onlookers who were recording the assaults. If Carnival security acts like this in front of witnesses, how do they act when there are no witnesses? Fortunately on my cruise, I didn't see this type of behaviour. Most of my breakfasts were in the main dining room (MDR). There was plenty of choice. My favourite was the eggs benedict. Occasionally, the egg yolks were hard. I just sent them back and the waiter happily exchanged them. I had dinner in the MDR for all 12 nights. There was an extensive menu. Steak every night, if you wanted it. Each night there was a section of the menu called "something different". This included meals such as escargot and frogs legs. Sometimes I had 2 starters and 2 mains. On the rare occasion I didn't like something, the waitress happily replaced it with something different. This was the typical attitude of all the waiters. They wanted to make me happy. The standard coffee was good. The mid-meal entertainment performed by the MDR staff was something that had to be seen to be believed. The Lido Buffet was nice, but not as good as the MDR. The drink prices were similar to a front bar. The U.S beers were about $1 cheaper than the Australian beers. Spirits ranged from $9.50 up to $22. If you ask for a double, you are only charged an extra $5. This was a good opportunity for me to try some top shelf whiskies and bourbons. The bar staff were friendly and put in a lot of effort to remember my name. The entertainment was generally good. The comedians were very good and there was a comedy show on every night. Some nights the same comedian would do two completely different shows with different material. In my opinion, Carnival is THE comedy cruise line. The big production shows were OK, but nothing special. I've seen better shows on the sister company P&O. The cabins and public areas were neat and tidy. I had an extended balcony cabin which was spacious. I was a little apprehensive about getting a balcony because my previous balcony experience was on the P&O Pacific Explorer (aka Poocific Explorer), which had some foul smells whenever I went outside. Some of the furniture in the public areas needed replacing. As for the decor in the public areas, my eyes were bleeding. It was gaudy and loud. You will either love it or hate it. Most of the ports required tenders to get me ashore. Carnival call the boats "shuttles". Priority is given to the passengers who have booked shore tours through Carnival. However, they will allow anyone to use the first 2 shuttles. So if you have independently booked a shore excursion, get up early or you will miss your tour. The ship's photographers are using a new technique to ensure that everyone has a photo taken when disembarking the shuttles. This involves the photographers assistant standing on the jetty and holding a broomstick with a sign attached to the end of it. The sign reads "Isle Of Pines" or "Mystery Island". The stick is held across the walkway, acting as a roadblock. After the photo is taken, the stick is raised, so you can pass. It isn't possible to push the stick away without other passengers been hit with it. Quite clever really. The photographers and mobility scooters (driven at high speed) are my only gripes of the cruise. I would recommend Carnival Legend, especially at the price I paid. Read Less

Embarkation and Disembarkarion went smoothly. Everything was organised and we didnt have to wait for long periods of time. Food at buffet was pretty average but enjoyed food at Main Dining Room. Great service from staff. Room was a bit small for 4 people. Not enough storage in the room to store clothing etc. Unfortunately we didnt get an invite for the meet and mingle which we were looking forward to it. Ship Decor was a bit dark. When visiting Port Denarau in Fiji it took a while to get off the ship because we had to use tenders, but Mystery Island and Isle of Pines didnt take so long to get off the ship even though we used tenders as well. The only port that we got off the ship to land was Port Vila. We traveled with a 2 yr old, he like being on the ship and really liked the purple slide. Above all we got what we paid for and i would do it again. Read Less

We cruised to Melbourne to tick another bucket list. Carnival Spirit was great. We partied and had a great time. Between the band The Manila Boys and Donnie the music was fantastic. You dances every night. The violin players were amazing and added the touch of elegance. High tea is a must and the trivia games keep you alert. The fellow guests were all there to have fun and the crew could not be more helpful. Our cabin Steward was fantastic and looked after us. Yes Carnival you know how to put together a great Melbourne Cup Cruise and I would recommend it to any one. Planning our next cruise with Carnival and we hope Ellie, The Manila band and Donnie are all there to entertain us. Would recommend you loose 5kg before you go or pack your gym cloths as there is souch food and drinks you will gain 10kg easily and enjoy every minute of it. Read Less

Coincided with our Anniversary. Cabin was good we have had this one before enjoy the indentation which keeps the wind off. We were well look after in the dining room with our friend Dessi. The dinning staff were great thanks Costa and his team. Food was fantastic plenty of variety. Eli cruise director very approachable called me lovely, said he sees us more than his parents. We are platinum cruises. The seas we kind to us like a mill pond only one day when we had a few white caps Meet the new captain lovely man. Entertainment good shows good especially 88 keys. The violin trio was fantastic so too Rod with his country music. Isle of Pines beautiful as usual, first time with a high tide was quite different to swim had a very relaxing time clear blue waters. Noumena next port of call we did the Double Decker bus good tour good price good commentary first time enjoyed would recommend. Stopped at the pastry shop first time for us my husband is a retired pastry chef was interested to see what the fuss was about, a bit expensive but very nice to eat. Lifou next port have been a few times did vanilla plantation. A drive into the country in an nine seate4 aircon bus lady driver no commentary. Lady tour guide was not to pleasant, but it was very interesting tour. A refreshment was included we bought some vanilla pods all sealed no trouble getting through customs when declared. Last port Mare not my favourite island bus to beach to expensive and there was wind. We just walked around for half hour then back on ship. I think they could find a better place to go. Over all it was a great cruise we relaxed and enjoy our 49 anniversary. Read Less

Food was prepared, made & cooked daily, entertainment was adequate. Giving a variety of options each night. Plenty of activities to keep anyone occupied during the day no matter the weather. Cocktails were delish. Behind the fun tour I highly recommend, to see how it all works- laundry, kitchen, staff quarters, storage areas & the bridge ( meet the captain ) & more. Cleanliness was of high quality. Staff were consistantly present throughout the ship servicing rooms & cleaning. 1st cruise was with our children, kids club catered for them sufficiently & they loved swimming in the pool & spa. 2nd cruise was myself, husband, a friend his son, nephew & friends who are married. I had been on another cruise from Sydney, but not from Circular Quay and wanted to experience the thrill of sailing out of the Quay, past the Opera House and up Sydney Harbour. I was not disappointed. For the price, I think Carnival did an excellent job. Where else can you get 8 nights accommodation with ocean views, three meals a day, waiter service if you want it, movies, live shows, karaoke, swimming pools and gym for $100AU per day? Despite school holidays having ended a full week prior, there were still hundreds of school age kids. Not sure how that can be so, but they all seemed to have a great time in the pools, water slides and other kids activities. If you want a quiet, adults cruise, I suspect Carnival is not where you’ll find it. For the money, the food was good. You can’t expect any more for the price. I was travelling alone and the single supplement meant that I paid almost the same as two adults. Can’t help that. I booked, through a third party online cruise booking service and it was quite close to the sailing date. At that stage I could get a cabin with an obstructed ocean view. I thought that would suit me fine. About a week before the cruise I received an email with my cabin details and was very pleasantly surprised to find they had put me in a cabin in the aft section of the ship with a full, unobstructed view balcony. Some say mid ships, low down has less movement, but I think the aft section is also good if you are susceptible to motion sickness. There is a 24 hour, free pizza restaurant and the pizzas were actually very good. However, the fellow making the pizzas was completely disinterested and he was making the dough at the counter as well as cutting up and serving the cooked pizzas when they came out. This meant they were sometimes stone cold when they were finally handed over. As the pizzas have a thin crust, they dont stay hot for long and are best if served and eaten straight away. Read Less

Went with 10 family members kids and grand parents etc. Fantastic French provincial day core. Glass elevators. Elegant dining room. Rooms were adequate. Had a balcony double bed and 2 bunks. Cupboards and drawers could be better if they had suitcase space only. Bathroom adequate. Larger then the P&O's Jewel bathroom. Not as good on board activities that we expected. Could have been better like movies should have been on in the theatre instead of just on the open deck where it was raining and noisy. Most of the time no movies were playing throughout the day. In room should have had the better movies playing also. Bad movie scheduling that collided with early diner service also causing people to be late. 7.30 pm dance shows were good. comedy shows good but not enough seats in small theatre. Not as many shops on board as the Jewel also. Most on board activities were geared towards spending big bucks like art auctions that not many people showed up to and had old chipped frames obviously had not sold very often. Come on we paid enough to be there already. Pools were nice with kids shallow bit but could have been heated and needed more spas as overcrowded. Be nice to have an indoor kids playground too for bad weather. Buffets were good and elegant dining and waiters dancing entertainment a plus. Elegant dining was only opened for lunch and breakfast sometimes. 24 hour pizza and ice cream. Needed more ice cream machines in buffet area. Sore excursions were very pricy and the free hop on and off at Noumea was not advertised until the morning of after we had spent hundreds on tours. $530 for 4 for 3 days of tours. The train was good value but not the afternoon bus tour as it doubled up on the look outs we had already been too and beach not as good for snorkelling. Maree was beautiful and only cost $90 for 4 for day for bus transfer. Good snorkelling and local beach food sold. Noumea was a beautiful and clean place but very expensive for currency conversation. $20 for 2 coffees in an ice cream shop. Good shops above ferry terminal that took Australian dollars. P&O pulled up to the Warf where Carnival had bus services as docked in the shipping yard a bit painful. Good kids arcade and kids club activities, but not as good for older kids as the Jewel. Overall enjoyed our cruise and staff were helpful. Excellent frozen cocktails for $10.50 end up. Excellent gym and sauna if you can find it. Gym and adult spa closed for chlorination in the day on a rainy day, bad scheduling. Hardly any fitness classes, only expensive PT sessions. Need yoga and abbs classes on. Spa was extremely expensive minimum $175 a treatment. Mini golf never had any balls, always missing. Fun themed dress up nights, but didn't know it was Halloween until final days before and we purchased the wrong costumes. Read Less

The cruise we took with Carnival was aboard the Legend, to Fiji and New Caledonia, over 11 nights. The condition of the ship is atrocious, and we never felt completely safe. There were many times we seriously considered disembarking early and simply flying home. There are major safety issues with this ship, if you decide to travel on the Carnival Legend, please be careful. There are smashed windows, rust inside, and an overall grubby feeling to everything, but the biggest safety issue however is the outside railings. They have, at certain intervals, gates in the railings, and these are secured, not with huge safety locks as one might think, not even with a padlock, but with a barrel bolt. Yep, the very thing keeping you from opening the gate and jumping or toppling overboard is a very unsafe barrel bolt. That anyone can open. I passed by some kids playing with it! Luckily their mum was watching and was able to avert a disaster, but seriously!? Carnival Cruises can you say lawsuit waiting to happen?! The stateroom we had was very dated, with numerous issues. The wardrobe doors didn't shut properly, which isn't a problem on land, but at sea all you hear all night long is the thud, thud, thud of the door as the boat rocks! The beds were very old, and one of them was on a permanent slope towards the floor. The pillows were incredibly uncomfortable, and no variations of soft or hard, they were all the same. We also had paint peeling, drawers slightly warped, and other cosmetic issues. The big issue I had with this room however, was the layout. The room is essentially a rectangle, the bathroom is tucked into one corner, and the door opens straight into the bedroom, shining the light onto the bed. Big design flaw. The best thing about cruising, so I have been told, is the food. Sadly, this is not the case on the Carnival Legend, where the food is bland, tasteless, monotonous, and, if you can find something to eat you are lucky! The food has a very heavy Asian influence, and everything is very heavily spiced. There is one restaurant onboard, Truffles, which is not open every day. There are essentially three options for mains, a chicken schnitzel with chips or mashed potato; grilled steak with chips or mashed potato; or a beef and mushroom pie with chips or mashed potato. Riveting stuff. Sides consist of glazed carrot chunks, chips, baked potato, mashed potato, or green beans in a vinaigrette. The dessert we tried was horrible, consisting of flavours that should never be mixed together. If you don't want to eat in the restaurant, there are other options. There is a Guy's Burger Joint aboard, we ate there once, and it was so bad we left our plate untouched save for a bite or two. There is a taco bar, although the only serve soft tacos, not the hard shell ones. My son ate there once and said it was ok. There is a 24 hour pizza bar, and although it is very hit or miss as to how burnt or raw yours will be, the pizza is mostly edible. And then you come to the most confusing buffet I have ever seen. First off, it does not flow in any logical manner, everything is sectioned off, so you constantly need to line up and quite often miss parts altogether. My son loves a good buffet, unfortunately for him, this was not a good buffet. What was meant to be hot wasn't, and what was meant to be cold wasn't. Again the food was boring, and all the same. There was no usual buffet suspects, and the lines were insane! There was one roast meat on offer at any time, unlike most buffets giving a variety, and the dessert here was just tragic, and always on the burnt side. Weird. The Swirls ice cream bar was just a help yourself soft serve, and every time we went past it was filthy. What really struck me though was the obvious lack of any fruit and vegetables onboard. In Australia, we have vegetables or a salad with every dinner, and most cooked lunches. And fruit or fruit salad several times a day. So to be without any fruit or vegetables for so long was really quite hard. The staff on the Carnival Legend were, with the exception of a few, quite rude and disinterested. They are obviously not bight on customer service training. We had Monis and Ernest as room stewards, which was fine. I think they did the best they could have, obviously it is not their fault the room is in need of repairs. Our waiter was Ari and he was quite lovely, always on top of his section and what the tables needed. The people at Guest Services were completely useless, no matter what the question was, they had no answer. Very frustrating! This was literally the most boring two weeks of our life, there is nothing to do on this cruise ship. I found it quite baffling that as a cruise line that claims to be family fun, most of the activities are for the over 18 group. What are you supposed to do on a family holiday? Dump your kids in a kids club and then have fun by yourself? Weird, and not what I would consider a family holiday. There are numerous bars and a casino, and they offer two stage shows each night. There are endless games of trivia, and a very small library. There is a tiny games arcade (costs between AUD$1.25 and AUD$3.50 per game), a couple of ping pong tables, a basketball court and a mini golf course. Carnival Legend claims to have a Build A Bear Workshop aboard, what they really have is twice a cruise they set up a stand for Build a Bear. The price is exactly the same as it is shoreside, the only exclusive item is a Carnival t-shirt for your bear. Seriously, skip the queue and do it in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide or any of the other locations we have in Australia. The cost of the Carnival Legend was really expensive, when you consider it is a no frills bottom of the heap budget cruise. These prices are the total amount I paid, for two adults, as my son is no longer considered a child, despite only just having turned 13. The cruise itself was AUD$2000. Knowing what I know now, I would never consider even paying half of that amount. Nothing is included in that amount, not even the movies on your TV are included, those need to be purchased at $5 each. Rip off! Four shore excursions was AUD$459.92. I purchased the Bottomless Bubbles drink package for AUD$140.25. and an internet package for AUD$229, which I think was money well spent as at least then we had something to do in the form of YouTube and Facebook. I had ordered Faster To The Fun, for an extra AUD$175, and what a rip off! The room wasn't ready until nearly 8pm, as well as the luggage, and every time we went to our dedicated queue at guest services, the teller wasn't there, so we had to queue and wait for a regular teller to become free. I went there to book my shore excursions, which apparently you can do, only to be told by Catalina, who said she was the manager of guest services, that I was unable to do that here, and would need to queue up in the shore excursions queue to be served! As it was 11:30am and the queue was insane, we didn't bother. Numerous issues with this optional package, if you are thinking of getting it, don't bother! On top of that, I was overcharged AUD$534.50. When I approached the Guest Services desk, I was told that there was no one onboard who can handle a complaint, but that after the cruise finished I would be sent a post cruise survey, and could put all the details in there and ask for an adjustment. Surprise surprise, when I did that I was told that there is nothing they can do, as I should have raised the issue while I was onboard! So in other words, I won't see that money again. There were so many things about the Carnival Legend that simply horrified me, and made me feel quite unsafe while aboard, and it is this reason alone that I would never consider travelling with Carnival Legend again. The fact that there is no customer service, and getting a refund on money that they overcharged me is apparently impossible, is the reason I would never consider Carnival Cruises again. I'm afraid I am old fashioned like that, I like my customer service customer focused. Read Less

Carnival Legend Cruise: October 11th- 23rd Our first ever Cruise (although we have traveled extensively on international flights - Business and Holidays.) we were impressed. The Boarding was a credit to the Carnival Legend staff for their efficiency and ease of service. Most international airlines would struggle to compete with the speed and efficiently of Carnival Legend’s boarding and disembarking procedures. Our Cabin was appropriate for our needs, contained but everything was there. Full marks for excellent room service that included a daily animal creation made out of towels – a masterpiece with two bold eyes. (Thank you, Tri and Eden.) The center of the ship was quite breathtaking with elegant restaurants -Truffies on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The food was outstanding with nice touches that included appetizers that you would normally never try. Of course, the Waiters (Richard’s team for our table) were excellent and highly organized as they promptly arranged individual meals requests with minimal interruption. Alternatively, there were plenty of self-serve kiosks open virtually all day on the 9th floor. I should add the dancing Waiter’s floor-show in the Truffies restaurant was a must see. If you are in for a relaxing time then this is the place to be, cruising around the Pacific Islands in one of the many pods or deck chairs - relaxing. Entertainment highlights were the evening shows; especially the magicians who had the traditional rope tricks and then something unique i.e. guessing what colours are being painted on the white board while blindfolded or the hypnotist who had everyone on the edge of their seat with just what will he do next. Very funny. Similarly, the 70’s and 80’s music shows were packed events especially Freddie Mercury' rendition. Shore excursions were what you wanted to make of them, as the time is limited. Plenty of options in Fiji – Suva/Nadi and the natural splendor of Maree with excellent beaches, and tropical fish in their home un- spoilt environment. A must see snorkeling experience. Overall, we certainly enjoyed our cruise beginning with the early morning stretch exercises - thank you Mohini and the opportunity to indulge and relax in the Sauna and Spa. Of course, if you ever felt guilty about all the exquisite foods on offer (Tiramisu cake you could not just walk past) then the Gym was the place to go although I have to admit there was always spare machines. Special thanks to Guest services for answering the various queries we had. (Thank you, Marcela and Sophia.) Christine, would also like to especially thank Angela for her Seven day treatment of Acupuncture and Cupping. Christine can feel a definite improvement now. Mike and Christine Read Less

The Ship: As a first time cruiser I did not know what to expect, so I was excited when I first saw the ship as was my son (aged 6). Was glad that we were able to check in our luggage early but the wait to embark seemed to take forever, although very organised. Once on board the ship we were directed to have lunch. My son and I just wanted to see where our room was and was not completely happy about being told to come back later in the afternoon (I guess the room stewards didn't want you to watch them clean). so as a first timer on a cruise they were handing out cocktail which I assumed was a complimentary welcome aboard drink but realised after that you paid for it (no big deal because I'm on holiday). The boat had a very nice ambiance to it. The restaurants: Food was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed every meal all but one which was a pizza that was still frozen. I complained and asked for a new pizza which they freshly made, so I can't really complain. The entertainment: From what I did get to see and do was fun but unfortunately I couldn't see any of the adult things that I wanted to. My child went to kids club once and hated it because he couldn't even get a drink of water or have any food so we just hung around the pools which both were constantly full of people and I had even seen some kids vomiting in the pool, pretty disgusting, we didn't swim at all but did play in the kids water park. The Medical Team: Amazing comes to mind. The doctor on board was very attentive and looked after my son who was very, very sick. My son recovered after 2 days on board as apposed to being evacuated which would have been the next step if my son's temperature didn't drop. Onshore excursions: All great. Lifou markets small but swimming was nice, didn't stay long as my son was not well. Isle of Pines: Enjoyed the tour around the island and learning about the history, very pretty. Amedee Island: This was by far the best excursion, so glad that I chose this instead of staying on the mainland of Noumea, entertainment at lunch was good as well as the marine life I saw while snorkelling. If you're afraid of snakes then I don't recommend this because this island is covered with sea snakes that are harmless when on land and are fairly placid - just leave them alone and they will leave you alone. Service: Service was great. Staff were very helpful and always smiling nothing was a bother. Shopping: Shopping was OK. Jewellery was very cheap and nice - I highly recommend this. I bought a heap of bracelets and bangles for less than $200. There was a competition on where you had to guess the size of the carot diamond in a ring and those who got closest won (I assumed it was the ring......wrong it was for some other prize like body lotion or something like that). Timezone costs money but guaranteed winner on the skill testers (we went home with around 50 little rubber ducks and a couple of minecraft stuffed toys. Overall: I would definitely cruise again on this ship Read Less

8 days South Pacific cruise to Isle of Pines, Mare and Nouméa, Enrichment Activities - did not attend any, these don’t interest us. Embarkation/disembarkation - good, we did not encounter any issues. Public Rooms - well maintained, and spaced out. Cabin - we had interior Stateroom 7260, no major issues, and close to the Empire Restaurant on level 2. In fact it doesn’t matter where you were located, there’s lifts close by, everywhere, as the ship is not huge. Shore Excursions - we did not book any. We did our own thing. Isles of Pines - we tender to the island for a swim, and soak in the village experience. We did not purchase anything or eat anything on the island. Bring sufficient dollars and coins in Aussie money because change is given in French, and you don’t want that. Mare - we tender to the island, but we did not stay long, as there was not much to see or do, however for $$$ you can go on a tour if you wish to. Nouméa- we disembarked. We did our own thing, we walked around the CBD, having been to Noumea many years ago, nothing has changed too much. Cost of living is very high. For a fee, the ship provides a shuttle, and another free shuttle to take you across to the CBD, as its impossible to walk to get to the CBD - too many cars and dangerous. Onboard Experience - karaoke every night for 2 hours to give kids and adults a chance to shine and make some noise, song book organised, however very limited song choices, and after a few nights you just don’t bother to partake, but listen to the others. Audience cannot assist you to sing because there’s no additional screens, and that is a real downfall. All other ships have screen, including your local pub. Dancing classes - good, but very short lesson, to pass time, and cheap, and given in the Spirit Lobby - a very small area which is not ideal. Water slides - did not partake, too cold for us. Restaurants (paying) - too expensive, did not partake. Entertainment - not the best, just average rock bands and singers. However, Electric Violin with Emerald Trio was excellent - something different. Shopping - good selection, but expensive. The alcohol shop on the 2nd last day duty free at 4pm (10% discount) was very disorganised, the queue to the checkout was long and crowded. Thank goodness I paid for my alcohol in the jewellery shop. Activities on board are OK, can be repetitious. Most activities in mind are cheaply thought of. Photos - very expensive, and on level 3 is devoted to photos only. To become a professional photographer takes years in training, where these are all amateurs. An elderly couple picked up their photos, costed heaps, and realised their wrinkles were all photoshopped. Alcohol - very expensive. If you are a beer drinker, consider taking a package when you get onboard and ask at the bar. One drink can set you back $9.00, and this can add up very quick. Wine is the same, about $35 a bottle. But Aussies are big drinkers, this is Carnival’s secret weapon. Value for Money - we booked the special price and if you don’t drink, then on this special price was fine. However, some paid over $1,000 for an interior Stateroom, and got ripped off by their travel agent or a close friend, only to find out it was cheaper online from the cruise company. Do your research. Dining - fine dining is very average, and dish presentation is terrible, timing and fast service is what’s all about. We have been cruising for many years, most cruise don’t tell you, you can order as many dishes as you like, e.g 2-3 entrees, 3 mains etc, and if you don’t like, after that head to the buffet for more choices. Dressing up for theme night is not required, your choice. Elegant dress night is applicable, however not enforced. Just look decent and have some respect. The buffet food on level 9, some dishes are good, some are terrible - tasteless, too sweet or too dry as in chicken dishes. Overall, you’ll find something to eat. Some of soups were tasty. Staff in fine dining and buffet were great and hard working. Fitness and recreation - free and a good selection of gym equipment. There is a spa in this area, and also free sauna and steam rooms, and showers. Drinking water and towels provided. All inside and uncovered. For a fee, there are beauty treatments and hair salon. Serenity pool area - free over 18s. A place to relax, and drink. Overall - the decor on this ship is not pleasing to the eye, and very much what you read in the reviews, yuk, but you get use to it, after a few days. Rust is just about everywhere. Guest relations, some ladies can’t multi task, some are plain rude, and have no idea about how the Aussie’s think. All hospitality staff on the ship are pleasant. Some hosts/directors have excellent commend of English, others are just terrible. Security was good, however, do remember there’s always young to med single man, and including dirty old man on a hunt for a catch, so be mindful, and always be on guard, and not be chatty to anyone just because he looks friendly. No we would not be returning on to this ship, many of the activities were boring, many things were repeated over and over, and some entertainment just average. On this cruise it was school holidays, it was loud, but acceptable to us. Tips - bring ear buds, medication, wet suit, hand and face cream, nail clippers, sun screen, hat, duct tape, camera or go pro, iPad has better reception than iPhone, however very slow. Do not bother with premium package internet, I purchased the med range at $129, but could not send or receive emails, that was fine with me, an Aussie Power adapter, bring two, the prong is reversed being the ship v is the the way around, be sure you have clearance, that is space around the adapters, bring iPhone chargers, do not bring power packs. The power outlet in our room was situated on the desk, and you could not move the desk to get clearance, joggers, flats, and one pair of elegant shoes, not your best heels, it’s not a competition, Aussie dollars and coins if you want to buy things on the island, shorts, swimmers and your holiday spirit if this is your first cruise. Control all expenses and just enjoy this cruise and give feedback. Read Less

Having cruised before we are totally disgusted with many things whilst traveling with Carnival cruise lines. Before our journey began we notified the booking office to inform them of our health issues with food and mobility. We felt assured we would be treated kindly regarding these. However we were talked into purchasing a Faster to the Fun package which would help us erase the delays with lining up and disembarking. This package was purchased with by my sister to whom I was traveling with as we both have similar health issues. When boarding the ship we were pleased to see we went direct to board .Well done. However we were under the understanding that our luggage would be ready in our room upon boarding, it never took place. We were not able to go into our cabin until approx. 4pm and then this was when the luggage was delivered to the passage. Not inside as lead to believe. Our cabin fridge was minus a tray or shelf and we asked the cabin assistant to find us one as the fridge was actually leaking moisture inside and medication needed to be stored .To this day we still never received it. In regards to the mustering station we do understand these are high priority and we respect that. However . found it extremely hard to stand for such a long time as I suffer from a foot problem and I was forced to stand for approx. 30 minutes or more. The briefing was very short and I was left feeling the need to medicate for pain after this. This was pathetic for others like us with disabilities. This needs to change as it does not offer the elderly any consideration at all. The day of boarding we headed to the main restaurant to set up the food allergies we both have and felt happy in knowing our needs would be met. We were not offered or informed of any food options in the Lido deck. We were only offered the menu to book in for the evening dining only at this stage. It was during the day I went to the Lido deck for a snack and when I started to eat a hot chip I realized it was garnished with seasoning, even though I had asked previous to this if it contained garlic, my allergy. I was ill within no time at all and was unable to enjoy my first night of dining at the main dining area. I then went on to spend my night and the following morning vomiting and was so ill I had to dial for The Medical Centre who offered wheelchair assistance to go to the A deck Medical team . I incurred a $637:50 account in which I feel should not have been a fault or miss judgment by myself. The day of discharge from the ship Medical Centre I was left feeling unable to eat in the main restaurant as pre planned and when I phoned to see if the set meal could be delivered to the cabin I was told they couldn’t do that, but she would ring us back to confirm. It was some time later that the meal arrived with no one informing us. It was unfortunate I had to phone room service to order a coffee to be sent to cabin as I was not able to order with my meal. This was added to my account.. It wasn’t until we asked at the service desk for assistance with eating in the lido lounge the service desk paged LORETO the head chef He was shocked to hear of us being unable to eat with limited options being available and he was more than happy to assist us with anything we requested during dining in the lido deck. This was day 3 LORETO cooked for us and we were happy knowing our food could be tailored to our allergies. In regards to the main dining room Waiters and Waitresses were unable to offer us anything different from the menu list, no varieties given only the option to take the garlic or pepper from the food out, often leaving this boring and tasteless. There were times we asked for alternative food to be added e.g. gravy, bacon etc......................................... it never came. It was on the second last night of dining we asked why we had not been offered a Cheese Platter like those dining around us. After asking we were finally offered one .We finally had something more appetizing to enjoy. We would dearly like to ask what we gained in purchasing our Faster to the Fun package as we found the disembarking on a gangway for entry to and from ports too long from gateways etc .We found that there was no priority given and we often found ourselves standing in line just like everyone else. This money spent prior to sailing is misleading and a total rip off. As we stated above this is not the first cruise either of us has taken and never have we experienced the lack of control by staff in regards to rules for children and never seen such lack of respect to those either elderly or disabled as children were allowed to run through the casino. Bars and corridors quite often unattended by parents…… this we found to be huge hazard many times during our cruise We often look forward to the joy of being able to attend the day spas. Never have we left feeling like we were not worthy of being there. The service was great and we do understand the needs for up selling of your products but we take offense to staff telling us we have either to lose weight or to look after ourselves better. We never came on this cruise to be judged by your staff (doing their job the way they are encouraged to do by the rules which you govern your cruise liner). We don’t always have the best of everything but we don’t need to feel awkward either. Yes we felt we had to purchase some of the products but even when we were told they would be delivered the following morning to the cabin this still took 3 days. We do not understand why we had to sign 2 receipts when we don’t agree with the gratuities as this is not even offered as an option. We honestly feel we have no choice but to be honest in saying this was not the cruise trip we thought it was going to be. Read Less

Enjoyed my 11 night cruise to the South Pacific, but the Carnival Spirit didn't quite live up to expectations. The food was the biggest disappointment - average would be the best description, though some passengers raved about the food, particularly in the main dining room (made us wonder what they were used to) - we swear that the cheesecake was a Sarah Lee frozen one!!! There was no flair or finesse in the presentation and the menu left a lot to be desired - the potato served up was so old it had shoots on it!!! But none of the promised sour cream, chives or bacon bits..... eating in the Lido Buffet was ok, as long as you got there early to beat the masses. Another disappointment was that the food stations were not open as advertised - meaning that it was a bit hit and miss as to what food was available (we saw a crew member almost cry when she was unable to get a meal later in the night and had to settle for pizza, which is 24 hrs) The ice cream is a soft serve machine, one of which broke down and was removed. On the up side, we all lost weight by the time we got off the ship!! Our cabin was good and the room stewart attentive - although we had to have our fridge replaced and then the new one still didnt work (turned out to be a power problem that was rectified eventually). We enjoyed the entertainment most nights, had fun at the ports of call and joined in trivia etc. All in all, it was a good cruise though I would not rave over the ship....we all felt it just didnt live up to our expectations and will try another cruise line next time Read Less

This was a yearly holiday with my sisters, our second Cruise, first on the Spirit. We had the best time, the ship was in great condition, our cabin was cosy but comfortable and very clean, thanks to Cristina and Moh. The staff were very friendly. The dining in the Empire Room was amazing, we had excellent service with Kaur, I Madi and Goran, the food was delicious, there was not one meal we weren't happy with. The Showtime at 7 o'clock was so much fun and a Highlight. The dining in other areas was also excellent and the Serenity Bar was the place to go away from the kids (although we didn't have a problem with any of the children, most were very well behaved and polite). The staff all over the ship were very friendly, we only came across one grumpy one, he must have been tired and don't blame him as they all work so hard and long hours, we only saw him the once. The Ports and excursions were fantastic, except for one, the Mare Island was not one we would bother to go to again. Mystery Island seemed to be everyone's favourite. Loved all the Entertainment, (there was plenty of it, there's no way you could be bored). We met many new friends, including the Staff I have mentioned, we laughed, ate, drank and have great memories. We were sad when the cruise ended and are looking forward to our next Cruise as soon as possible. Read Less

Hi as a first time Cruiser this was a wonderful experience. We travelled as a family of 12 aged between 5yrs,16yrs to the 30's & 56 which was me. The Ship was absolutely beautiful & catered for all ages. The entertainment on board was fantastic & ranged from bingo, trivia games, karoake , craft days & health beauty seminars. There were cinemas which catered for many ages & live shows eg stand up comedian & even a Hypnotist . I took my 5 year old grandson to see the Hypnotist & he was in awe. A great show. We built a bear & my Grandbaby joined Kids club. We had 2 formal nights, a Mexican night & a 80's night. They were fantastic fun & to watch my children participate was good fun. They had pirate dress up & treasure hunt. The hairiest chest contest. The list goes on. My partner & I followed a singer called Rob who played 70's & 80's & performed a Johnny Cash & Neil Diamond show. The Red Frog Pub lounge was fantastic on level 2, Shanghi was great for the karaoke nights & the seminars took place there through the the days. The Serenity area on deck 9 was just so good to chill as no children allowed lol! The service from all the bars, dining extra was nothing but excellent. The dining room Empire on level 2 & 3 was truly amazing nothing but professional & silver service. Food was prepared well & tasted delicious . The Buffet was a little more hectic but still great food & good variety. Pizza was 24hrs a day & my family took full advantage of it. Especially my 2 sons. Pizza mad. Hamburgers were cooked from about 11am till 5pm & you could put just about anything you wanted on them. Ice ream was in endless supply. The Cabins were really beautiful & I am pleased we paid the extra to have a balcony. 2 of our group members got a balcony slightly obstructed views but their room was even better than ours. I was in awe of it & next time would happily have the obstructed view. You could see everything really just below was a lifeboat but who cares. Their room 5174 was slightly bigger & better quality carpet, benches etc. Bathroom was much nicer than ours. We were all on level 5. Rooms 5252,5254,5256 & 5174. I would take 5174 anytime it was cheaper & a nicer. Room service was perfect. Our rooms were cleaned immaculately & Wyman was nothing but friendly, helpful & cheery. He knew our names quickly & greeted us daily with his lovely welcoming disposition. Everyday we had a towel animal greet us when we came back to our rooms. I was so impressed I went to a seminar where they showed how to make an elephant & dog. I was wrapped as elephants are my favourite animal. We purchased the book so worth it! The places we ported were Noumea, Isle of Pines, Mare, Mystery Island & Port Vila. Noumea I would probably not revisit but a tip make sure you exchange money either on ship or at the markets where there is an exchange machine. I went into supermarket & couldnt use Aussie $. But the bar we sat at for awhile did accept our money. Beaches beautiful but not so friendly. Isle of Pines was paradise & the people were just lovely. Happy friendly & welcoming. Next port was Mare where my adult children went snorkelling . They loved it &a I enjoyed the markets. Mystery Island was my favourite it was just so pretty &I reminded me of a Rv show called Gillgans island. The beaches in all these ports were stunning. No seaweed & a blue colour that was just mind boggling. The waters were stunning. Mystery Island was cheapest for souviniers . Port Vila was great but a bit more overwhelming. Busy busy busy. The taxi driver that took us about were friendly, knowledgable & keen to show how they live. But the Duty free is fantastic. All the islanders were lovely couldn't fault them. The French in general were semi pleasant but some rather rude. Well that is most of my experiences I found it just the most extraordinary 12 days & loved my every moments & so glad I shared them with my family. ( Television needs a bit of adjustment for those who can't sleep or need to entertain a child. They need a channel just for children's movies & they need more movies than the 7 or 9 they kept showing. People who lack sleep need some in room entertainment . I suggest you download iPad with movies & take them along with you) Read Less

Just got back from a weekend cruise to nowhere on the Spirit, cannot highly recommend the ship enough. The staff are amazing, our cruise director Chloe was always around and mingling with the guests unlike a previous cruise director I have had. We were upgraded from an interior to a balcony cabin 5245 which had enough room for the two of us and the access bathroom was a great size! The dining room staff were attentive yet not overbearing Michael had some great dance moves on him! The staff who worked up at the buffet were friendly and helpful, along with the bar staff outside. JJ was a blast at bingo hope to have him again next time. The Park West crew were amazing and helpful, George was not only an excellent auctioneer but great for a laugh as well and did not ram Peter Max down our throats unlike a previous cruise. The housekeeping staff are amazing and such hard workers they deserve more praise than they ever get. Cannot wait to get back onboard and rejoin the carnival family. Read Less

Wanted to try a different cruise line after being with Princess Cruises. Thought Fun ship that's different. Well not what I call fun. Getting pushed out of way by kids and parents. Kids running up and down hallways and up and down stairs pushing elevator buttons. Embarkation was average to say the least. Cabin was clean ad tidy but smaller then I was expecting We had anytime dinning that was ok and food was OK but not much variety Entertainment as OK there was a couple of good shows but was a big disturbance in one of the comedy shows and security was very slow sorting that out The Bar service was OK but seriously when is it OK to have kids sitting at bars in my opinion that is terrible practice. In the casino there were kids running around pushing buttons not good practice allowing that Parents were more concerned with having there own fun to worry what there kids were doing The shore excursions were average but OK Was suppose to get $200 credit each not a cent received. and the internet was the worst I have had on any cruise. $240 and could not access any thing I would not sail on the Sprit again at this stage Read Less
