This is our 10th cruise and 9th on Carnival. We (wife and me) chose this one due to itinerary (stop in Half Moon Cay). This ship is older one restored with new features (water park, rope course, seaside theater etc.). Balcony showed signs of wear. Food was plenty and good. We love the your time dining as we didn't have to wait in line and we showed up when convenient to us. Out of 5 nights only one time service was slow. Our head waiter Leslie was great. They even arranged non-veg Indian dish every night along with other menu items. We loved JiJi Asian kitchen, I got that for lunch every day even if I had other items. NOTE: This and Italian restaurant are free for lunch but extra $ for dinner. In Nassau we walked (15 min) to Jankanoo beach (Off the ship go to Bay street and take right and keep following it). Rented beach chair $25 for 2 chairs and umbrella. Beach is nice water is clean and didn't see too many vendors. This was much cheaper than I paid $45 /person at Malia beach back in January. Half moon Cay is our favorite stop and it didn't disappoint. Clear teal blue water and warm water, shallow beach. One guy had bought fish food that got so many large fish around our legs. Carnival set up the BBQ in the pavilion was good. Last stop Freeport we took the glass bottom boat excursion. I highly recommend this one. It's a 20 minute bus drive to port Luciya and driver was funny. The boat took us out in the ocean 15 min away and at first stop we saw lots of small fishes. Then they took us to 2nd stop further out in the ocean to see large fishes. There we saw 15-20 reef sharks, he threw meat in the water and they were swarming right next to the boat. We could see them clearly in the clear water without having to see through glass bottom. We all had a great time. Entertainment was great with Motor City, Epic Rock etc. Emma is a really energetic cruise director, she has a great personality. After every show she tried to get crowd to join dancing in the atrium. This ship has adults only area at the front of the ship and water slides are moved at the back of the ship. In the front at serenity section there is a 3 story high water fall and pool. This was a great new feature. I did a rope course and that was fun, I took easy track but found it challenging. The buffet area dining room seating is odd in this ship. As other advised go to the back of the ship where JiJi kitchen is. It's empty most of the time since the door leading to it seems like service area. Overall we enjoyed this cruise and it was worth it. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was perfect timing for my wonderful wife's birthday and it was leaving from Norfolk only 1 hour from our home in Gloucester. It was also affordable. The cabin was beautiful and comfortable. The huge picture window showcasing the open ocean and beautiful ports of call. I just spent the better half an hour detailing all the wonderful experiences of our wonderful trip and my computer some how lost my writings. So I will not rewrite all of that again. So let me summarize in saying our Cabin Stewart Puji was remarkable. Our restaurant staff team Macedon, Jeffrey, and Zafar were wonderful in their service and pleasant personable demeanor making our dining experience especially the night we all shared dinner with the Captain who also was very engaging with the guest. Emma is phenomenal. How can one person harness and dispense such amounts of energy. We all were her Lovelies. The entertainment was fantastic Everyone was so friendly and most accommodating and gracious. It was a totally wonderful time for both my wife Lourdes and I. Thank you. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation went very smooth! The safety/security drill that occurred aboard the ship took an extended about of time. It was held outside on the deck in humid weather and limited about of space. Many of the elderly people standing near me had a very difficult time standing for the period of time. The ship was very clean, the cabin was clean, prepared and ready for us every time we returned. I have traveled and stayed at many resorts, been on a couple of cruises and stayed at several hotels but I have never encountered the level of customer service like Mr. Gusti provided!!!!! I know he worked long hours but he also greeted you with a smile and a delightful approach. He is the BEST!!! Mr. Sombari was great also. Dinning was delicious and service was great.....Ms. Ausrine! Entertainment and Activities were plentiful and fun!! Mr Leigh, Cruise Director is great at what he does!! I plan to book another cruise on Carnival Sunshine! Read Less

This was my second cruise I have been on, the sunshine was awesome I loved the people that worked on it they made everything fun,the food was amazing way better than my first cruise. I had the best time of my life on this cruise I swear I did not want to get off. Matter of fact my cousin and I are coming back on the sunshine in October with other family members who have not been on a cruise before so I hope and pray we have as much fun as we did when we went in may. I can not wait to get back on the sunshine. I loved the games they played with the music. The club on the boat was very very fun. The drinks were amazing the kiss on the lips is the best yet. I recommend the carnival sunshine to anyone so I hope it is the same when we get back on in October. : ) Read Less

Charleston embarkation is a nightmare, but the shorter drive is worth the challenge. When you know that ahead of time, it helps...some. My husband & I sailed on Sunshine last year Saturday-Thursday and it was one of our favorite short getaways. We've cruised 30+ times on different lines. My mistake was in booking this nice ship during the worst possible time for a relaxing, quiet vacation. Memorial Weekend is NOT the ideal date. I know how great Sunshine can be...when 70% of the passengers are not 1st time cruisers who seek to turn the ship into "Party Central" all night, every night! This was either all about the booze & yelling & slamming doors all night, or about families with children who just got out of school (there were 700 kids, many who would run you over for a french-fry, or hold up the elevators for 10 friends). But hey...there were several thousand cruisers who were looking for the party! I take credit for not looking at the calendar closely when my husband wanted to book a spontaneous getaway. We encouraged several very dissatisfied 1st time cruisers onboard to give Sunshine another chance. The entertainment was very good, with productions each night. The buffet area was nice, and well designed (overcrowded at peak times, as expected). Having ice-cream 24/7 is always a perk! Guy's Burgers was a draw for my husband too. I would give Sunshine another try. Read Less

WE chose this cruise as a last minute cruise because it fell into the window of opportunity for us. Right place, right time kind of deal. Wife had been on this particular ship a few years ago and loved it. So we decided to try it again. We have cruised mostly with Carnival and find them to be the best deal for your money. Why pay more to go to the same places and have lots more fun?! Knowing Guy's burgers onboard was a plus, and the fact that the ship was recently upgraded was a plus. We also enjoy just staying on the ship, since we have visited the ports several times before. Lots to do onboard to stay busy and enjoy the pools while others are checking out the ports. Carnival's vip plan is great as well, offering incentives to rebook with them. Sunshine is not too big, and not so small that you miss out on activities. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to the itinerary, the three stops in the Bahamas were wonderful. The Embarkation process was relatively painless. We did not wait very long in line for security or for our boarding zone to be called, maybe about 10 minutes for the boarding zone. There is ample seating and water is provided while you are waiting for your boarding zone to be called. Before we knew it, we were on the ship. Lunch was being served so we headed back to the Havana Bar (one of my favorite spots during the cruise to eat/have coffee because there is often ample seating and a great view out the back of the ship) and enjoyed some Stir Fry from JiJi's and some Pasta from Cusina Del Capitano, which are open for lunch free of charge. After dropping off our luggage in the cabin, we were off to explore the ship with our first tropical drinks in hand. Right off the bat, we were impressed with the upgrades this ship has recently received. There is a beautiful adults only serenity area forward on the ship with a hot tub and pool with waterfall. This area can be a bit crowded on sea days but it is a very nice place to hang out. On the aft section of the ship is where you find the ropes course, mini golf, basketball, water slides, water park etc. We did try the water slides, ropes course, and mini golf and they are a blast, even for adults! There are many different options for food on this ship, we didn't even eat in the main dining room! We really enjoyed Guys Burgers, and yes they are as good as everyone says! We also enjoyed the tacos and burritos from Blue Iguana Cantina. We did have reservations at the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, which is a lovely meal with great service. The buffets were OK, like all cruise ship buffets, hit and miss. For breakfast they have an omlet station in the Havana bar, very nice to have something made to order! We also enjoyed the entertainment on the ship. We saw two shows, witch were both very entertaining. We also saw a couple comedy shows. I would skip the PG comedy shows, the real laughs were had during the "R" rated shows. I would get there early for these however because one time we got there late and it was standing room only, but we still enjoyed the show. We went with an inside cabin on the lido deck. This was perfect for us as it was close to the "action"(food and pools, etc) and a short walk from the pool areas if you needed to hop back to the cabin to get something. The room had a mini fridge which was very nice. The bed was comfortable and there was a decent about of storage space. Didnt mind the inside room at all, since we were on the lido deck, we were just steps away from being outside anyways, and saved a lot of money over a balcony room just accross the hallway. Our room steward was wonderful, very friendly and able to answer any questions we had, either about the room or the ship. Our first stop was at Half Moon Cay. THIS PLACE IS BEAUTIFUL. Hands down the best stop out of the three. Beautiful perfect sand, crystal clear blue water, this is what you expect when you stop in the Bahamas. Absolutely recommend a cruise that stops at this island. Next was Nassau, had been to Atlantis before so we decided to do the free beach this time, was not too impressed with that (beach not as clean as the resort because it is a public beach, there was some trash in the water and on the beach). I would go to Atlantis if I were to do it over. Then we stopped at Freeport and did the Beach Day with open bar excursion. This was a lot of fun, rode on a double decker bus to the beach. The driver was funny and gave us a little but of a tour while on our way. The beach was very nice and the drinks were strong, what can I say, all around a good time. Emma our cruise director was awesome! So full of energy and made sure everyone had a great time! I would not hesitate to sail on the Sunshine again, we had a wonderful time! Carnival really does have the FUN ships! :) Read Less

My wife and I just returned from a 5 day cruise on the Carnival Sunshine. This was cruise number 17 and the second time on the Sunshine. We had a great time, always wishing we would of done more. As far as being a long time cruiser we have noticed cutbacks but it did not affect our overall cruise. I noticed less housekeeping staff and they ask you If you would like your room cleaned in the morning or the evening. We just said we would like it cleaned twice per day. First night we ate in the Steakhouse and loved it. Took advantage of the 50% off our bottle of wine and ordered a pricey bottle of French Champagne. Excellent service and food. We ate in the main dining room every morning and 3 evenings. Had no complaints, very good service and food. On the last night we ate in the Italian restaurant called Cucina del Capitano. We simply loved the food but more important, the service was wonderful. Our two servers Isaura and Olivera made your feel very important. They were very knowledgeable on the menu and truly cared about your dining experience. If your board the Sunshine soon ask for Isaura and Olivera in Cucina del Capitano, they will take care you very well. Pools and Serenity very crowded but you could find a time of day to find a spot either very early or late afternoon. Outdoor entertainment screen for movies was not working for some reason but movies were played inside. Comedy acts were great, we did not watch any of the main shows on this cruise. Time just flew by and we always seemed to miss things. Yes we spent a lot of time in the casino and even won a little. Earned the free drinks at 1000 points for a 5 day cruise. The Casino staff was great, friendly and very caring. Even the housekeeping staff in the casino was very friendly. We stayed on the ship while visiting Freeport and Nassau. Half Moon Cay was great, enjoying walking the paved path. So overall we loved the cruise and cannot wait until the next one. We are already planning :-). One last thing the overall customer service on the "entire" ship was OUTSTANDING. I never seen an entire ship before just truly care about customer service. Kudos to the Cruise Director Emma, she was a bundle of energy. Read Less

We wanted a fun cruise we wouldn't have to travel far for for our family reunion cruise. Value of cost we thought was good, but the embarkation was a nigthmare , we weren't allowed to get on board till 8 pm that night. It was like hurding cattle to the slauter took 3 hours in line...im not kidding some folks waited even longer. No compensation was given to anyone. so our cruise started very late. The lido food court way to small and very narrow, not good for people with handicaps. Very limited choice of food with the same food everyday. We traveled on the Carnival Dream and it was that a Dream come true cruise. ship layout much better, much more variety of food. Our room stuart as always great on any ship we have been on. There was no personal service in the buffet area, very very lacking. I will never cruise on this ship again, we have been on carnival 2 times befor and loved it. We are booked on the Vista but now are not sure if we want to get our money back and go Royal or Norwegian instead. It really was just okay...my husband and i were sadly diasappointed. Some of the game shows very cute and fun, comedy was good but did a lot of repeat shows. They had a very nice gym and the water slides looked a lot of fun but the kids said it was to cold to go on more than once. It is like they tried to put to much on board and made it over crowed. My advice do not choose this ship...choose Dreeze or Dream awesome, fantasy a very fun small older ship Read Less

Cruised the Sunshine out of Charleston on 11/6/16 to Nassau & Freeport. Worst embarkation EVER! Will never cruise out of Charleston again. But, despite the embarkation fiasco, it was an enjoyable cruise on the Sunshine. We had an inside cabin, midship on Deck 7. Room was great, nice big shower, great location. Things we loved about the Sunshine: - Loved the layout of the ship, especially the Ocean Plaza area. The extra wide hallway from the casino to the Ocean Plaza was well utilized by the photographers and avoided the crowding that always happen on other ships when trying to navigate from the casino to the back of the ship during photography sessions. - Loved that the taste bar on Deck 5 (Ocean Plaza) also offered a small sampling of breakfast and lunch if you didn't feel like heading up to Lido deck for food. - Loved the large Serenity area with it's 3 decks and own pool and waterfall. - Loved all the numerous dining options. Always found something to eat. - Loved the Havana bar area behind the Lido Marketplace. Never crowded and always went back there to eat all our meals. - Loved the toned down decor. Things we didn't really like: - The Liquid Lounge was small. Missed the long benches with the little tables on the main stage floor, instead all you have are movable chairs (no tables for drinks). - Limelight Lounge was oddly set up and also small. If didn't arrive early to get seats in front of the stage, you were stuck with seats along the side and only had tv monitor to see the stage. Not exactly ideal. Overall, good cruise, staff was great, Cruise Director Emma Nixon was bubbly and entertaining. Would consider cruising on her again, just not out of Charleston. Read Less
